Piazza 1909 has been our familys go-to spot for special occasions, a casual happy hour, date night, and holidays. So it was only fitting we hosted our wedding reception at this special spot. The service was, as always, above and beyond. The food was exquisite and complete with a Pasta Show by Chef Stefano. The atmosphere was relaxing yet buttoned up, allowing guests to feel comfortable, well fed, and able to have a fun time. Choose Piazza 1909 for your next event (ours was a private event/buyout) or any reason to eat delicious food and wine!!

We have been here two weeks in a row. We came for Mother’s Day. The service was amazing my pasta, outstanding, the Bronzino delicious, my husband and future son-in-law ordered lasagna, delectable. We are back again. I had black pasta with seafood and it was wonderful. My friends who are vegans were so pleased with the Barata, pizza and pasta with marinara sauce. We’re going to have the most delicious dessert as well probably ricotta cheesecake! We highly recommend Piazza 1909 💫💫💫💫💫

Went here for the first time on Valentine’s Day and had an amazing experience! They had a 4 course meal for $75 and it was worth every penny! The food was exceptional, you can tell the chef put it a lot of time to perfect the dishes and flavors. Our server was also very friendly and helpful. To top it off, they had live ambient music play in the back that created a romantic and peaceful night. Highly recommend!

The pasta here never disappoints! I personally really like all pasta varieties here with seafood. The drinks and appetizers are wonderful as well. I’ll be coming back regularly to try more dishes.

Very romantic and beautiful place at the center of La Jolla. I made a reservation at Open Table for Saturday dinner, and we got a nice seat at front patio. The service here is quite nice, the hostess gave us a nice table even we were 25 minutes earlier arriving. The foods here are delicious! We enjoyed the pizza and the lasagna. The dessert ricotta cheesecake was so so, it was too light, we prefer the New York style.

I specifically asked for no pork and I got a half and half with pork on both sides. I asked a replacement and I got this Pizza. I left extremely disappointed. It shouldn’t be hard to put a side of Pesto if the customer asked for it over 3 times. Alfredo Pasta was okay. The Lemonade mix was very good! Service was ok. I don’t think I’ll be eating this Pizza at all. I nearly left without picking up the pizza although paying for it but, I didn’t want to come off looking rude.

Our experience at Piazza 1900 was a disaster from start to finish. It took them 15 minutes past our reservation time to find us a table and another 15 minutes to take our order only after we flagged down a server not assigned to us, My fried seafood appetizer was soggy and the gluten free bread we ordered to accompany my wife’s zucchini soup arrived after the soup was consumed. Then there was another interminable wait for her gluten-free pizza that was pizza in name only — toppings swimming atop a thin crust — and my fish of the day buried in an overpowering concoction of tomatoes and peppers. They comped the bread and a tasty gluten-free chocolate dessert but that hardly made amends for our worst dining experience in some time.

We had our intimate and simple wedding reception at their back patio and it was amazing! Although we have never visited and tried their food before, we are beyond satisfied and happy with everything. Food and drinks are not only superb, but the service and ambiance of the restaurant are also perfect for our celebration. Roberta is very accommodating and patient with all our inquiries and requests since the planning up to the actual event. We heard a lot of good feedback from our guests and they really enjoyed the food, especially the tiramisu and wines. We are glad we chose Piazza 1909 to be part of our special day. And of course, it was a pleasure to meet Roberta and Chef Stefano!

Food and service was excellent. I love the hot, fresh fried calamari. My special entree, the torchietti with shrimp and fried zucchini strips, was a delicious mix of flavors and textures. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. My husband complained it was a little loud, but it is a little better in their covered front patio. Ive been here several times, and each time its excellent.

3.5 stars overall. The ambience is attractive with an outdoor patio, heaters and quasi-live music. The service was friendly. The food missed the mark. The focaccia was too salty. The sauce for the pappardelle di mare was not flavorful and the cioppino was more tomato sauce-y than seafood broth-y. The singed toast that accompanied the seafood stew was puzzling. Offered replacements were still very burnt-tasting as if flame-torched on the ends only.

So Riley was an amazing waiter/host towards my husband & I. It was well appreciated he was helpful with giving menu options and very patient.. he checked on us gracefully yet expeditiously and though the food was amazing the service made it even better. I also want to shout out to the chef, he was so kind when my strictly vegan husband had meat on his pizza we thought they’d be frustrated to take the plate back but the chef himself came out and was so lively authentic and kind with a corrected pizza and that was just what’s up for me. We had Pappardelle de mare for lunch. Love the mussels, salmon, and cherry tomatoes. Unfortunately, we’re charged by the dinner price instead of the brunch price. (Found it after the transaction, so we decided to view it as extra tips) Hope it was an accident… otherwise it’s really unprofessional :(I would still recommend this place for its great food, service, and atmosphere. We hosted a rehearsal dinner and brunch at Piazza 1909 for our wedding. The food was excellent and Roberta and her family are incredibly friendly and helpful. I really cant recommend this place enough--their food is better than surrounding restaurants and their prices are lower and very reasonable. We got tremendous value from our events and everyone had a great time.Their tiramisu in particular is delicious and we had several amazing pastas--Tagliattele alla Bolognese, Pappardelle di Mare, and Ravioli di Magro. Apps were great too (calamari, bruschetta, and polpette).If youre looking to do an event or just have a nice meal, go here.

First timer here and the food was ok, but the duck lasagna really surprised me. Overall, I just wanted to point out that Benjamin provided great service and answered all of our questions. We left 45 mins late(not knowing the closing time) but I gave him a good tip and they didn’t rush us to leave

We spontaneously stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon after not being able to get in at another local restaurant and we were very pleasantly surprised. We dined outside on a lovely spring day and very much enjoyed the location and dining experience. The server, Frederico (?), was attentive and professional. We started with a garden salad which was fresh and delicious. I ordered and thoroughly enjoyed the Scaloppine di Pollo al Porto e Funghi. The chicken was moist and the mushrooms were plump and earthy. My husband ordered and enjoyed Salmon with capers (I think it was Salmone Piccata al Limone - off Brunch menu). Both dishes came with beautifully roasted veggies and flavorful sauces. After we left, I realized I left my phone there but our server found it and kept it safe until I returned later that day. Highly recommend this place!

Wonderful experience!! The staff was very friendly and attentive. We ate outside on their patio for lunch and it was a great atmosphere. I love a good lamb chops, so I ordered the lamb dish, but turned out to be cubes and its dry and chewy. The worst lamb dish I ever had and no matter which form it came. It made it worst because its listed on Chefs Specialty menu. My husbands seafood wrapped in parchment paper didnt taste bad. We both had the exact same side dishes to go with our main dish, it feels like eating at a fancy cafeteria. Bottom Line, the place doesnt have good PV ratio (price vs value). Dont think we will be back or recommend it. There are too many other places to be discovered. 😉

Came here by chance after a long day of travel. It’s just what we needed for some great food, good atmosphere and R&R! Came around 8ish on a Thursday and so lucky to enjoy the live music! It was great with the atmosphere. The candles and patio heaters really set the mood. Should have taken pics of the food. We had the farro salad and it was clean and light. My husband and I split it along with the margherita pizza and some cocktails. The red sangria was on point with the soaked fruit and spice. My husband liked the amber ale. Service was great. There was always someone from the waitstaff coming to ask us what we needed and clean dirty dishes away. And friendly on top of it. I would recommend for a date, any get together or group. Comfy chairs for outside too compared to other places I’ve been.

One of the best Italian food I have had in a long time. The vegetarian option are good here and the collection of wine :). The service and ambiance is really good. Pretty good Italian food, decent cocktails. Their pizza is supposed to be Neapolitan style, but it came across more as undercooked. No charring anywhere on the pizza, if needed another minute or two in the oven to get some of the traditional Neapolitan char on the crust, while still being thin and soft. The rest of the meal Im told (by the others in my party) was pretty good. They make a good Bloody Mary and only put a hit of juice in their mimosas (thats a good thing). Id be willing to give this place another go.

We love this place. Score a free mimosa at Sunday brunch and enjoy their great food. The presentation is not overlooked here and their coffee really is amazing. With shaded or sun drenched options, they can accommodate parties from 2 people to 15 people comfortably. Also, dont miss out on their cooking classes that they offer. We went for lunch and ordered a pizza and salad. Pizza : dough was perfect thickness (thin), tasted fresh, and was cooked perfectly. The sauce to dough ratio was perfect, and the sauce itself was also delicious. It tasted like it was made from fresh tomatoes. The salad was dressed perfectly, the chickpeas were peeled and the goat cheese was delicious. It also had little pumpkin seeds that reminded me of healthy granola. The staff was prompt and kind. Highly recommend!

Had a really great meal with some friends on a Friday night. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation as I saw a few people leave from the wait times. I absolutely love this restaurant! It is my favorite date spot and I’ve been coming with my boyfriend for almost three years. The wait staff is kind, knowledgeable, and consistently provide exceptional service (shoutout to Ren, she’s the best!). Get their bread with tomato dipping sauce, so yummy. Service was very poor. Waiters were apologizing to every table for just about everything. A July Saturday at 3PM should be an easy win for a restaurant. The Carpaccio was very oily. The bread for the table came … after we’d finished our two starters and shared entree an hour and a half late. The starters took forever to come out and forever to be taken. 1 glass of pineapple juice took 30 mins to arrive. And having a cup of tomato sauce spilled on the table by a second server kinda capped off our feelings for the place. We didn’t complain, we paid up, but we won’t be coming back. We adore a few Italian restaurants in the city, and all of them have better food, better service, and are about half the price.

What a shame were in LaKolla for the night and we thought this was a cute place. The food was terrible. The swordfish had zero taste. Raviolis were mushy and covered in butter what a disappointment. Stay away from this place. I think a fast food chain restaurant would’ve been better for us last night, even though we don’t eat fast food.

I had the same experience as Amber C. I was charged the dinner price instead of the brunch price, despite ordering off the brunch menu and being there during brunch hours. I decided not to say anything at the time, but after reading Anber Cs review and having a separate incident where I was charged for two glasses of wine, when I only ordered one (that time I did ask for the bill to be adjusted), I question if they routinely over charge. We had reserved a table ahead of time and we were sat at a table with a very cold draft, coming from both directions of open doors right in front of the kitchen. When I asked to move to a cozier table, we were denied. Service was friendly, but very very slow took forever to get our food, no one ever even stopped by to check to see how the food wise even though, we saw numerous employees pass us by including what appeared to be the managers or owners not one of them ever even smiled welcomed us say hello or checked in on us. Did not have the experience this placed is hyped up to have. I have a gluten intolerance and ordered gluten free pasta. They gave me regular pasta and my dish had to be remade. I can look past that. My husband ordered the steak and there was some confusion about the sauce that comes on it. He didn’t want it but took a bite of his steak to see if he would like it. He didn’t and asked for a new steak without the sauce. The chef literally scraped the sauce off the steak, put the steak back on the grill, and plated it. The same steak my husband has taken a bite of. We informed the owner and she had the audacity to say her chef would NEVER do that. Defending the chef and calling my husband a liar. Not even 10 minutes later she comes back to the table apologizing because the chef did in fact do that. I’m not saying the customer is always right but get all the facts before you call your customer a liar. The food was mediocre. The experience was awful. The front of the former house is the main outdoor dining area with the right side being additional dining nooks. Very beautiful landscaping. The lentil soup is so delicious here, I got two to take home with me!! I had visitors in town who were catching a plane the same night I decided to try this restaurant for the first time. It is truly amazing. It brought tears to my wife as she reminisce about the stuffed calamari like her mother used to make. But when we had the gnocchi with Gorgonzola we were lifted to even a higher experience. Gnocchi should be small and light as a pillow. Often difficult to find in restaurants but at1909 the chef can be seen making the gnocchi while you dine and truly has mastered the touch through his family generations.Congratulations to piazza 1909 to the manager the waiter and support staff. The outside seating area is okay, but would expect something a bit more authentic Italian. The menu has a free choices for different categories, definitely enough for something to appeal to you.We got blueberry pancakes and French toast. Both choices were well prepared. The pancakes were served with mascarpone, instead of butter, which was a great alternative. Also, fresh strawberries and Maple syrup.Prices are on the higher side, but that goes for the entire area, and you get a lot for that.Servers were friendly and attentive.

I ordered a Margherita Pizza to go... but when I met Walter, whom I noticed speaking Italian, and he made me feel so welcome that I chose to eat there! I made friends with a regular local as well, she was amazing, and everyone that worked there who I interacted with was kind and professional; I didn’t want to leave!Good for a quick bite, full dinner with family and kids, or an intimate date. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the location is perfect near the most scenic beaches in La Jolla and convenient street parking.I will definitely be back. Recommend for all.

I googled a restaurant nearby and saw that this one had a 4.7. First time, not impressed. Last time also. Kids pizza was charred, overcooked which affected the taste. Bottom of the bread slightly burnt. The taste wasnt very good. The tea had an after-taste. Ordered a three course meal for $35 and the portions were super small. I thought it would be a regular sized appetizer and a regular sized main course . . . Nope. The appetizer was two bites of stuffed calamari, like ravioli. The main course had small pieces of chicken which also appeared overcooked, and the wine sauce didnt taste very good. The only good thing was the desert. The chocolate desert was delicious but also a very small portion. Two adults and two kids came out to $115 total. With the size of the portions I felt like I was a judge on the food Network with super small portions. I wish I was on the food Network so I could criticize the cooks.

New favorite place in La jolla. The ambiance was so cozy and inviting with the string lights on the patio, and the food was amazing. Went with my boyfriend and sister and will easily be back soon. The servers that we encountered all had wonderful Italian accents, and it felt like authentic Italian food. When youve been a server, you know what good service is because you notice every little thing, and this place definitely satisfied our expectations.

We went on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait time to get in. They did a temperature check before getting in but no information was taken down for contact tracing. I loved the food here-we ordered pizza, grilled fish pasta and margarita. They have dog menu too. I liked the staff here- nice and friendly. We had good time here.

This little hidden gem in La Jolla is amazing!! The food is top notch, authentic Italian food. The quaint ambiance is memorable, the staff was so outgoing, very accomadating all while being professional and efficient. The decor, seating and patio area is fun, lively and makes you feel like its just you and your party dining. The resteraunt is kid friendly, reservations suggested and make sure to dress warm if its chilly outside though they do have heaters.We LOVE this resteraunt!

I wanted to like this place. The menu looked like an authentic restaurant youd find it Italy. However the food was mediocre at best if youre looking for authentic Italian food. The eggplant parmesan tasted like it came in a frozen package. And then gnocchi gorgonzola decent like a sauce for a package. The service was slow but I actually dont mind that because I like to enjoy my meal but the food was a big disappointment.

Wow, what an experience of Italian hospitality and exquisite food. Lorenzo informed us of how this is a traditional family owned and operated business. Dad is the Chef, Mom hostess, brothers and sisters work the rest. We ordered the Calamari Fritto and loved the artichoke and zucchini as well as the size of the portion was more than enough for 2 people. We ordered the Arugula prosciutto pizza and that knocked the socks off. Tiramisu was over the top. Entire experience was so far and beyond our expectations. Definitely coming back!

Not recommend. My beer had a bug in it then we sat and waited a good 20 mins before the waiter arrived. The starters were ok the fish I ordered was a tiny cut that was like rubber and shrimp was over cooked a dry salad was limp. They brought me another plate after 30 mins it was clear they scooped my old salad shrimp and vegetables from first plate onto second. The second even smaller cut of fish was edible but had zero flavor. They didnt charge me for the food ... Why would they ?Not feeling great today from the fish. Will not ever go back.

Lovely Italian spot in La Jolla! We had excellent service and the live jazz guitar music on Thursday night was so nice and created a fun ambience! We had the chicken Milanese and Gnocchi with saffron sauce. Both delicious entrees! We started with caprese, the mozz was sooo creamy! We will be back :)

On Thursday, September 17, 2020 we celebrated my daughters First Communion at Piazza 1909. We had such an AMAZING time! Everything was beautiful and the service OUTSTANDING!
