Dr Philip Ngai is very professional, friendly and offers quick and efficient appointments. I had cataract surgery in December and I was very comfortable, and no pain. I was nearly blind before and now Im 20/20 after surgery and am so happy!! The office and surgery staff is wonderful! The surgery time was fast, as was the recovery, and I couldnt be more pleased. I would highly recommend Dr. Ngai and his staff and will tell all my friend about him.

I really appreciated that Dr. Ngai took significant time to discuss my moms diagnosis, management options, and follow up outcomes with her in person and myself on the phone as I live out of state. We are so glad that we found this clinic for my parent’s eye exams! Ive often seen businesses or practices with five star ratings where nearly every post it seems had five stars and I thought theres no way, until I visited the San Gabriel Valley Eye Group today. Allison was awesome from the start when I first called to inquire if they take new patients. She answered my insurance questions and explained what to expect. When I arrived today she was still just as pleasant and the registration process was quick and easy. Eric the technician was awesome. He was very pleasant and polite. He wiped down all the machinery that was used for my test and he clearly knew his stuff because he was quick with processing everything, not rushed, he was just very familiar with his equipment. It was exciting to see him work. Dr. Mark Lin was as pleasant as the rest and very professional and thorough. It was exciting learning about the mechanics of the eye and I felt comfortable that I understood my results because he was very clear and patient in explaining the results of the tests. I havent had an eye exam since Middle School and Im 60+ now and it was exciting learning all about the eye. I didnt feel rushed and felt very confident about my eye health when I left. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone who needs an ophthalmologist. AWESOME SERVICE.

I have had a few complex surgeries recently with other eye surgeons in order to fix a rare problem with my eye. After months of care and visits with my surgeons, I still had questions about my surgeries. I was introduced to Dr. Ngai by a good friend of mine, and after seeing him for several visits, I am convinced he is one of the most competent and professional physicians out there. With very little information, he put all of the pieces of my complex history together, and explained to me in laymans terms what happened with my eyes. He called nearly all of my doctors personally to verify the facts and see what exactly happened with my eyes. Turns out his theory was correct, but the fact that he called my other doctors personally shows how much he cares. More importantly, he has advised me about what to do in the future to maximize and preserve my vision. In my visits with Dr. Ngai, he took the time to walk me through my diagnoses and treatment options, and was always attentive to any questions or concerns. I believe he truly cares about his patients and I could only wish all doctors practiced medicine this way. I now see (pun intended) why he and his office have the stellar reviews they have. I drive across the Golden Gate Bridge to see Dr. Ngai and its totally worth it. Needless to say, I highly recommend Dr. Ngai to all friends and family for their eyecare.

I had cataracts and surgery became necessary. I went to San Gabriel Valley Eye Group as Dr Peter Chen had taken care of my visual needs for several years. However Philip Ngai was the doctor present upon my visit. I found Dr Ngai to be welcoming pleasant and professional. He explained in great detail each lens replacement option available while providing the patient with a knowledge base necessary to make an informed decision. I was impressed with the passion in which Dr Ngai spoke of his craft as well as his confidence in his ability to successfully perform lens replacement surgery. Immediately I knew Dr Philip Ngai was the right choice for my surgical need. Surgery in and of itself brings its own angst. The staff at the San Gabriel Valley Eye Group is exceptionally nice well versed and makes you feel very comfortable with all areas of the pre-0p experience. They treat you with dignity and respect while putting you at ease about your procedure. Words in and of themselves can’t begin to explain the level of skill and expertise of Dr Ngai. Before surgery with glasses I had 20/30 vision. The day both eyes were completed I was blessed with 20/20 vision w/out glasses. I am thrilled to say that I went from the worst farsightedness to 20/20 vision. I was referred to Dr Ngai, not knowing any eye doctors. The office is compact and filled with the latest examination equipment. Very friendly and helpful staff. I’m a senior and go for regular checkups. Dr. Ngai was very patient and caring, and explained everything I needed to know about my vision care. After finding out I needed to see an Ophthalmologist I asked around and was referred to this location by a family member. I made an appointment with Dr. Ngai as Dr Chen is no longer receiving new patients.The office was easy to find, the staff was awesome and attentive. I didnt wait long before they called me in, pretty punctual office which is in my opinion a bit rare.Dr Ngai was very detailed asking about my history and my current issues. From start to finish, the staff was informative, helpful and extremely friendly. I came to Dr. Ngai’s office to get a new prescription for my glasses and contacts. I told Dr. Linh Ho about my issues with my previous prescription from another doctor. She was very thorough and answered all my questions completely. She gave me her suggestions on what magnification strengths I should use and gave me some trial contact lenses. After getting my prescriptions filled, all of my previous issues were resolved. Dr. Ngai and his staff are wonderful. Ive worn glasses since i was 13 (over 50 years) and when i was diagnosed with cataracts i decided on the surgery. The surgery was quick and completely painless. Two weeks later i am glasses free and have crystal clear 20/20 vision. I can even wear cool sunglasses now. For any of your optical needs go to Dr Ngai. He is very personable, excellent at his job, and thorough in answering any questions you may have. Dr. Philip Ngai is one of the best doctors ever. He took care of my moms cataracts and did laser on her eyes. He is such a good Dr. he even follows up to make sure you are ok. My moms surgery went well and he is still monitoring her eyes to make sure she is doing fine. The nurses in the office are also very friendly and helpful. I was initially apprehensive about a new doctor taking over the practice but after my visit today, I am glad to call Dr Ngai my Doctor. My mom recently went to another eye doctor to diagnose what we thought were cataracts. I usually go with her since she doesnt know English super well, but this time she went to a Korean one and felt comfortable. She came back and the doctor was pushing some laser assisted surgery that would put my mom out more than $2,000 out of pocket.My husband thought it was fishy since it was a hard sell and it wasnt covered by insurance, so we found Dr. Ngai on Yelp and here to get a second opinion. Not only did he inform us that the laser assisted surgery wouldnt produce any better results for my moms case, but listed us better ways to use that money to help my moms eyesight. He explained everything very well and seemed very caring, so much so that we ended up having him do my moms surgery. Everything turned out great and my mom is sticking to Dr. Ngai now, even though hes not Korean (her words).

Ive been seeing Dr. Phillip Ngai for the past couple of months and compared to my many experiences and years of working with other Opthamologists, he is by far the best Ive dealt with. He has a fantastic team with great attitudes working for him. He has such an energetic and eager and friendly personality, and likes working with people. What I appreciate about Phil is that he takes the time to educate me about my eye issues, and explains it in such a way that I can understand it. He has some high tech equipment in his office, and is able to show the eye condition results immediately to me. I am so glad I found Phil for my eye medical issues. I highly recommend him to others.

I had a red eye last week and no matter what I did it wouldnt go away. I decided to call the eye doctor but I wanted an ophthalmologist, an actual physician, not an optometrist, who mainly do eyeglasses. I called in and Dr. Ngais schedule was full but his front staff was understanding said they would work me in. I was able to see the doctor within a couple hours and Dr. Ngai was awesome. He diagnosed me within minutes and explained very clearly what was his plan was. Everything was so easy! His staff was so friendly and caring. And my eye cleared up in a few days with the eye drops that Dr. Ngai gave me, just like he said! Ive found my new eye doctor! Hes a fantastic, friendly, and a professional doctor. My mom was having pain on her right eye which was caused by her glaucoma. I took her for a regular check up, but Dr. Ngai decided to have her emergency laser procedure on the same day due to my mom’s extremely high eye pressure. My mom was so nervous but Dr. Ngai thoroughly explained to us the importance of getting the laser procedure as soon as possible. He also told us what to expect base on worst case scenarios. Overall, it was a quick and successful laser procedure. My mom cried with tears of joy, Dr. Ngai did a follow up appointment with my mom in person the next day on his day off. Dr. Ngai went above and beyond our expectations.

We brought in my grandmother who is considered legally blind to his office on the chance he could work on her cataracts. The visits were extremely pleasant, he accommodated my grandmother to the fullest extent of her comfort, and because she only speaks Spanish, Dr. Ngai communicated almost everything with her in Spanish; something we dont see every day and that comforted her a lot.After working with our insurance in close detail and 2 surgeries later, shes cataract-free and seeing much better for 83 years old! Definitely a happy camper!Dr. Ngai has proven himself to work with all ages and backgrounds at only his best! I am very particular with my health esp. with my eyes. The office of Dr. Ngai is so family oriented, that you always feel a VIP accommodation. They will call you to remind you of your appointed time. The office is immaculate, well organized and equipments are all, I would say top of the line. The office staff are very polite esp. Eric, Dr Ngai’s assistant, who knows his job well, and very courteous. Dr. Ngai is very professional and on top of his expertise. I had surgery on both eyes due to cataract and developing glaucoma, which he was able to correct. I’m very happy and very pleased with his specialty. I will not be ashamed to refer him to all my friends.

After spending many hours trying to find an Ophthalmologist, my wife found Doctor Ngai on Google. So, she called and spoke with Kelly. She was very polite and informative. She was able to get me an appointment the following week. But before my appointment there was a problem with getting an authorization from my Primary Doctor. So I couldnt be seen just yet.My wife had to make many phone calls to my primary Doctors office. So they could coordinate with Dr. Ngais office, with Kelly and Ericks persistence in receiving the right Code they were able to get the authorization processed the day before my appointment. My wife was very happy to get a phone call from Erick letting us know that everything was in order and our appointment was a go!Through the whole process. Erick and Kelly were very polite, cordial and patient in trying to keep my appointment. They are truly professional with a broad knowledge of their job. My wife has been dealing with making appts. with different Doctors office and most are short and in a hurry to get done with you. But when calling Dr. Ngai office she noticed right away how patient, cordial and polite the staff was.Upon my arrival to the office the Staff greeted us with smiles and were courteous and respectful. Krystina checked me in with the assistant of Dr. Ngai, he was very patient with Krystina since she was new and it was only her third day at work. She took my temperature following all the Corona Virus protocols.During my examination, I felt welcomed and relaxed and taken care of, while Erick and Dr. Ngai explained every step of the examination process. So I knew what the problem was and what to expect. They answered all my questions with conviction and listened to my input.Kelly helped me get my prescriptions set up and sent to the pharmacy. Ive been to many Doctors office and this one was a great experience by far. They make you feel welcomed and not just another patient they have to deal with. While we were there I noticed and see how Doctor Ngai engaged with his other patients with compassion and care. It was really refreshing to see.Especially now a days when you go to Doctors appt. you feel rushed and seems Doctors not really paying much attentions to you. And the Staff are very short and trying to get you out of the office.Doctor Ngai was excellent and so as his staff Kelly, Erick and Krystina. I was very happy and felt good leaving his office. Amazing experiences that I had on my eyes surgery w/ my Ophthalmologist Dr Ngai. Before I was sad due to my sights even I’m wearing my prescription eye glasses, but after the surgery the next day I was so happy as he removed the shield I can see the true color of everything. Recently I had an incident where I scratched my cornea. Without a call or appointment I walked into Dr Ngai’s office and without question the front office staff took me right in. Dr Ngai was friendly, professional and very patient. He answered all my questions providing both clarity and reassurance that both the injury and the discomfort would quickly heal. The doctor was also honest that I would have to suffer through a few days without anything to manage the pain.He was correct, after less than a week of antibiotic drops the eye was much better. I also appreciated that in that same time, Dr Ngai confirmed the eye was restored and he released me from any further visits.I would definitely recommend Dr. Ngai to anyone in need of a great eye doctor.

My mom has weak corneas in addition to her cataract condition. This increased the risk of her corneas possibly being damaged if we delayed cataract surgery.Dr Philip Ngai was very patient in answering all of our questions even though it was already lunch break (our appointment was at 11am so we had to wait for her eyes to be dilated in between before we could be seen). He didn’t hurry us nor appeared rushed during the entire visit. He explained all of the possible complications as well as the differences in the lenses (mono-focal vs multi-focal).Espie made special accommodations so we could be scheduled for surgery one week after each other. She even found a time that was convenient for us (since I had to bring my kids to school first). On the next day follow up check-up (after the surgery), Eric gave us a piece of paper that had the eye drops listed as well as a visual guide for us to mark how many drops of which medicine (my Mom needed 2) will be needed for each day. That was really cool and helpful especially for senior patients who might need to keep track of whether they already had their eye drops or not. Each time the eye drop was applied, you have to color in the circle dots to show completion. One eye drop needed to be applied 3 times a day while the other had to be applied for 4 times a day so this color coded visual guide was really helpful to avoid any confusion!It was a pleasant experience overall and I think for my Mom, Dr Philip Ngai did the lowest possible pressure to lift out her cataracts. I told him he probably just beat the “World’s Guinness Book of Records!” There were no complications and now my Mom can see everything clearly!We truly recommend him and applaud his wonderful office staff (Espie and Eric)! You won’t regret coming to this office! They are the best!!!

Im very pleased with my experience at Dr. Ngais office.My nightmare started a month ago, my vision suddenly went down with a severe headache. I went to Urgent care for seeking help first, but nothing they could do. The next day I visited with Dr. Liu who did my eye lazic surgery back in March, she highly recommended me to visit eye specialist, Dr. Ngai, due to unnormal symptoms I had.To be honest, I was very hesitated, because Im not sure if Dr. Ngai could solve my problem. I missed the first time appointment ( because Im not confident about Dr. Ngai at that time), but Im glad I finally made my appointment again with Dr. Ngais office.His whole team is very professional and made me feel that I was in safe hands. My experience with San Gabriel Valley Eye Group has been extraordinary journey. I was referred to San Gabriel Valley Eye Group by my primary doctor. I had a complaint that I was seeing a spidery type of shadow in my left eye. My doctor referred me to Dr. Philip Ngai, MD, MBA, MS. Upon arriving I was greeted by two friendly staff members of Dr. Ngais team. The waiting time was surprisingly less that 15 minutes. After an extensive examination of my eyes Dr. Ngai concluded that I might have a tear in my retina, his staff called Retina Consultants, a retina specialist and obtained a same day appointment for me. After my examination with the specialist it was concluded that I did have a torn retina. The doctor proceeded to conduct a laser procedure which corrected the tear. I want to thank Dr. Philip Ngai for his quick response. I highly recommend Dr. Ngai, he was highly professional and kind.

So I found Dr. Ngai because it is near my house.Im really glad I found this doctor, because he had helped me done so many testing. He inspired confidence and was very thorough with my exam and formulated a plan of treatment without having to repeat tests that were done at another facility.Espee the office receptionist was very helpful in obtaining authorization for a special medication. She persevered filling out several requests to my insurance company and then telephoned me with updates after initial denials. Without her help, I would have had to pay for the costly drug wholly out of pocket. Because of the after hours work that Dr. Ngais office staff did for me, I was able to obtain the drug with a reasonable out of pocket expense.I recommend Dr. Phiip Ngai MD. I also recommend Dr. Peter Chen who has been taking care of me during the past several years. Unfortunately, Dr. Chen is planning to retire. His expertise will be missed.

Where to start, i had an accident and i poked my eye in the backyard, i needed a doctor who opens early and can take me on such a short notice, i googled and found dr philip, i called and they immediately gave me a spot to come and see me on such short notice. He also used tests that gave accurate results, unlike other devices that give false information. Visiting from Texas and had a really aggressive eye allergy. Because I have learned the difference between an optometrist and and an opthomologist I googled for an opthomologist and found Dr.Ngai who’s office was able to get me in the same day as I explained my concern. The office was easy to find and very close to where I was staying. The office building along with the doctor’s office was very clean and the receptionist was very friendly and informative. When I met the doctor he was very nice and welcoming and listened to my concerns and asked me questions regarding my health. He then examined my eyes and he confirmed that I had an eye allergy and not an infection. He then prescribed an eye drop that took care of the problem I definitely recommend this doctor and his office staff. I also used their pharmacy inside there building who were competitive with their prices and answered any questions I had.

When I came in the office, everyone was very professional. They took me in right away for testing in regards to my diagnosis. Dr. Ngai did the testing and found out about the retinal tear right away! Dr. Chen has been my Ophthalmologist for over 25 years. Ive been going to him since I was in College, and now my daughter goes to him for eye exams and lens prescriptions. Why pay more at Costco or Sams club when you can get a real MD to examine your eyes, for almost half the price. He also provides contact lens at the same price as the others.
