All i say is very refreshing once you get to the falls. I went to Phantom Falls with my girlfriends and arrived at around 9AM of April 26,2024. Before i joined their hiking invitation i search the place of how it look like and omg it really is amusing view and the experience is so memorable. Better bring jacket or coat because wind blows and it makes you cold 🥶.Wear hiking shoes especially non-slippery shoes. Visit it before summer because the blooming flowers and water falls will vanish.

Be aware to use Cherokee Road and not follow the map apps.Hike was somewhat underwhelming but still beautiful at the end. It was very hot and you walk on flat rocky trails. I wouldnt go on a hot day as there is barely any shade in the first 1.5 miles. you will see a small waterfall that seems to be nicer than the phantom fall itself. overall i think it would be a nice spring season hike but definitely nothing id do at 70+ degrees.

Beautiful place! Went in late January.Tips:- Make sure to bring water and proper sun protection.- Bring good shoes for hiking. The floor has lots of rocks youll be stepping on.- Keep your hands free (or bring a walking pole) for parts of the hike that require more balance. Some parts are steep and others require walking across streams / stepping on wet rocks!

6.25.23 waterfall was dry. It was super hot 98degrees. Bring a gallon on water. The rocks make everything so much hotter. I arrived at 2pm.Not good for dogs, there’s so many sharp rocks on the floor. Literally the first mile is super rocky.Unfortunately the dog with us cut his soles and had to be carried back. While I kept going to the falls. 🤭 and had a heatstroke.I do have a video IG@TravelingWhileLatina

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Phantom Falls in Oroville, California and it was an absolutely incredible experience. This hidden gem is located just 3 hours away from the Bay Area and is definitely worth the drive.The hike to Phantom Falls is an easy to moderate 4-mile round trip hike that offers unique and breathtaking views. Along the way, we saw three beautiful waterfalls and the scenery was simply stunning. The hike itself was enjoyable and not too difficult, but its worth noting that during the winter months, the trail can be quite muddy. So be sure to wear good hiking shoes that are waterproof.One of the things that I loved about Phantom Falls is that its not overly crowded, which allowed us to fully appreciate the natural beauty and serenity of the area. The falls themselves were stunning and we were able to get up close and personal with them, which was a truly unforgettable experience.Overall, I would highly recommend visiting Phantom Falls to anyone looking for a unique and memorable hiking experience. This time of the year after all the rain weve gotten makes for a great experience at phantom falls. The fields were blooming with flowers. Im going to come back in late April to see how much bloom has taken place. Please be respectful of the blooms and wear proper shoes because there are a bunch of rocks (your feet will thank you) 😉

This review is for Phantom falls trail. This is a moderate, mostly non-shaded, rocky, 4 miles out-and-back trail, with beautiful wildflowers along the way. It is quite popular with hikers and the parking lot gets full easily and be ready to park on side of the road and walk towards the trailhead. Do remember to buy the CDFW land pass either at home or using a scannable bar code(which allows you to buy one) right before the trail entrance. You have access to park restrooms plus a dozen portable restrooms inside the parking lot.The first section of trail is extremely rocky and eventually becomes bit flat, be very careful with those rocky surfaces, especially with the kids. As other have mentioned, right at mid of trail where you find bunch of trees, the trail splits into two possible routes. the left section takes you down towards the very rocky and steep area, Ravine falls in between, with a dead cow on the way (it is literally unbearable) and eventually to the Phantom falls. The right trail area is quite easy, not much rocky and avoids the dead-cow issue; I suggest you to take this section of the trail, both ways. You will find many streams on the way. Seeing lot of hikers along the way makes the journey bit easier and overall we liked it and even our little kids did it without an issue.The water that feeds the Phantom falls is a tiny stream and the water almost never touches the ground due to the wind. The terrain is quite beautiful and you will see many variety of wildflowers along the way. For those who want to get to the bottom of the Phantom falls could do it by going around the right side of the falls and start descending on the left side using a rope that seems to have been tied to a tree.

It feels like you’ve been transported to some mix of Ireland and New Zealand at the same time. The “hike” over is over rolling green hills while the actual fall itself seems like it’s from a tropical environment. It can be muddy, so be aware, and make sure you get a view of this place before it dries up again for the rest of the year!

This hike is beautiful during the late winter when the falls are flowing. If you go in April there are crowds of people who flock to see the abundance of wildflowers. The hike is pretty easy in the elevation gain department but the trail can get challenging in some parts with uneven and slippery terrain.

Nice little retreat. Went on a Saturday and Earthday, the most busiest I’ve seen it.Plenty of parking. If there isn’t parking in the lot, makeshift one off the road. Porta potties.Trail has a lot of rocks, slight inclines, plenty of shade & a walking stick isn’t necessary (unless that’s how you hike). Plenty of pollen for allergies 🤧. From the parking lot to Phantom Falls, it’s about a 2 mile walk/hike one way. Also a great spot for photography.4/22/23There was a hiker who sprained her ankle and it was nice to see the rescue team help.There is a decomposing cow on route so be aware.

One of its kind! The landscape is amazing. It is unfortunate that the waterfall is seasonal and has a full flow only when it is raining. I went three weeks after the epic storms and the water flow was very less. Nevertheless, it was amazing! I couldn’t get down to the back of the falls, as I couldn’t locate the trail. We’ll have to cross the creek to the other side of the falls to get down.Also, we need to get CDFW pass, which is about $5.

Trail was pretty easy. Definitely shorter than most that I have been on. When you use the directions on google maps make sure you find the directions that lead to the parking lot!!! I didn’t know that when I went and I got directions for phantom falls and it lead me to a different location! You have to make sure the location is on Cherokee road! The trail the whole time was very beautiful because of all the flowers in bloom right now and I would suggest going before they die or it might not be as nice. The waterfall isn’t super intense but it was still a very beautiful view and my friend and I even hiked to the bottom. If you do go to the bottom, do not bring dogs because people did and the dogs had a really hard time because the way to get there is really rocky.! There is a cave behind the waterfall so if you do bring a dog then be careful that they don’t go in the cave and fall. Overall, if you’re not going down to the bottom of the waterfall it’s only 6.5 miles and pretty easy. The views are amazing and getting to the bottom of worth it but be cautious and take your time getting down !

2/11/23 Sat 9am Parking lot filling up but still plenty of room. Bathrooms at Trailhead. 2 hours round-trip with a not quick pace. Saw Ravine Falls & Phantom Falls. Decent amount of mud. Good amount of loose rock to walk across. Couple small hills to climb. Plenty of dogs joining. Only 5 minute walk to Phantom Falls from Vista point. Technically not free. Watch out for cow patties.

One of the most beautiful places in this area. The hike is easy and no too long but tricky. There are not indications and the only reference you have is a fence you can follow (and you GPS). There are several falls and you can close, sit and enjoy de views. Easy to see cattle on the way and flowers (and bugs) in spring. Careful after rainy days, there are muddy parts!

Hiked to Phantom Falls with some friends on March 16th. The flowers were good, but had not peaked yet. Hike west from the parking lot for 0.4 miles, until you reach the old oak grove, and you will see the first trail sign.We hiked to Hollow Falls also, and followed the trail posts to reach the pool at the bottom of the falls without having to scramble down a steep rocky slope.

A very unique waterfalls that flows over the edge of a shear cliff and into a valley about a hundred feet below. I did not hike down into the valley to the base of Phantom falls since the trail was difficult to find and rather steep, also since the water flow was minimal when I went to the falls. The round trip to the overlook of the falls from the parking area is about 4 miles and well worth it. Best to go in spring after a rainfall to see the vibrant wildflowers in bloom and the falls with more flowing water.

The hike to phantom falls is beautiful in April! Its a few miles hike, so bring water and some snacks l, maybe even a picnic. Some people brought kites. Make sure you stay to the right at the fork in the hike to make it to the big phantom falls. Also, all these pictures of the falls are posted from a rocky cliff. Its a straight drop down and Im not gonna lie it scared me with my kids.Tips for directions to the parking spot: on maps type in Cherokee Road, Oroville. Theres a fork in the road so make sure you stay LEFT on Cherokee Road. You will see some random parking spots but if you keep driving you will see port-o-potties on the side of the road and you will know your at the right spot.

Amazing hike! Probably about 2 miles to get go the big falls, then you can walk around the edge to find the way down to below the falls! There are some ropes to help you down because its slippery- But once youre down, just stick close to the cliff and you can get all the way to the base of the waterfall. Beautiful, moderate 5 mile round trip hike to Ravine and Phantom Falls. There is no designated trail but you can see make where the trail has been formed by other hikers. At one point, you can take the left fork to see a smaller waterfall. But if you continue right to the fork you will see Ravine and Phantom. Beware of private property signs! Once you reach tall grass, there will be a sign that points you in the right direction. No spring flowers unfortunately but we went on a rainy day and had the trail all to ourselves.

A pleasant walk to a waterfall. Just a couple of miles from the parking lot. The rocks can be loose on the trail, so wear some solid shoes. Bring water. Birds do use the cliff walls for the thermals, there is a possibility of seeing large soaring birds.

If you follow Google maps it will lead you to the photo with the sign. Look up Cherokee Rd, Oroville Ca. Follow the road and youll find a decent sized parking lot next to several large cow pastures for the entrance. Beautiful hike. Couldnt hike all of it in one afternoon. Will definitely be coming back

Phantom Falls is one of the most unique waterfalls I’ve been to in CA.Don’t forget to pay for a lands pass online.($5).When I arrived at the trailhead,I found out there was no trail at all.I needed GPS and the All Trail App to help me and my cousin.It is flat with rolling green hills and some wildflowers.( very pretty,amazing).We followed an old fence and crossed over the fence.There are 2 ways to get Phantom falls.They are both the same distance and incredible view.Getting down to the swimming pool of Phantom Falls was big adventure for us but it worth it.( we were using rope).The view around Phantom Falls were spectacular.(you have to go down to the pool if you are here).Some parts of the trail are muddy with a lot of small water crossing.( hiking shoes with water roof is the best).We were able to visit 4 waterfalls on our trip.We didn’t have much water flowing but enjoy Landcape and wildflowers.We will try to come back here again for wildflowers and the falls after few rains or sometime in early April.(2/16/2020).

It’s a gorgeous place if you are at the right time. You won’t get a chance to hike on a tabletop mountain everyday, specially when the wildflowers are at its peak. Trust me, its a spectacle. Only bummer is the crowd which can be overwhelming and distracting. Try to be early if you are planning to be on spring weekends.

After multiple trips out here I feel comfortable saying the phantom falls hike is the least rewarding hike and destination in the park. Stick to the valleys along the creeks. The views of wildflowers are gorgeous but if you’re spending the whole day out here, the 5+ miles added on to this loop aren’t worth the time wasted and what you’ll have missed in the rest of the park. If you’re going all the way to phantom, make sure you have energy to add the extra distance to reach the bottom of the falls and then it is very rewarding. Definitely worth checking out. No true trail to follow. Best way is to park at the parking lot, go through the gate and head towards the canyon for about 500 feet or so and then go right, you will see a faded path that leads north.

Its a skinny waterfall, but its always got a rainbow shining in the middle of it because of the spray from the wind, itll bend left and right from the wind. The rock cliff the waterfall falls off of is an interesting formation.Theres a great viewpoint on the cliffs, but you can also take a steep path down with a rope tied to a tree at one part of the path.Theres a pool at the bottom, a giant vine you can swing on (dont know how long the vine will last, its huge though), theres a man-made dug out cave underneath the waterfall and many people have left there carvings in the soft rock of the natural cave under the water fall.The pool is also fairly private at the bottom because of the steep hike down and because its shrouded by so many trees to block being in sight from people at the viewpoint. At the bottom the waterfall stream moves back and forth about 30 feet in distance, its really cool. Reminds me of a grandfather clock.I went on a Wednesday morning/afternoon in the spring, so it could possibly be busier and less private at the bottom on the weekends.Its super rocky for most of the hike so I dont recommend flip flops at all.Also during the spring there are beautiful flowers the whole hike there and back.

Open preserve. We saw 3 falls. Beautiful drive from Central Valley. Wear good traction hiking shoes. Take a spare pair as shoes will get very muddy and wet. Take lots of water and some snacks. Hiking stick could be of really good use at some areas. Enjoy.

Horrible experience getting there, the map for this location is very wrong. It told us to take a left on a road but there was signs saying things like the map is wrong no access phantom falls. Please fix your map so people dont have to experience the confusion we did. Also by the 1st water fall there is a dead cow and it smelled horrible, workers, please make sure your grounds are clean. Other than that the water falls are beautiful.

We saw 3 waterfalls and tons of wildflowers. This is one of my new favorite hikes!! We also climbed down a pretty steep trail with ropes to get to the bottom of phantom falls. It was quite an adventure! We did about 6 miles round trip. I highly recommend it! Lots of people on the trail on the weekends though.

Just a peaceful area to enjoyed life. With friends, family or your love partner. You can choose from many types of hikes that suites your ability. You can visit all 3 falls if you have time. Once you get closed to the falls.BEWARE!!! They are called Falls for a reason. People have gotten hurt and even paid the ultimate price. Dont let that discouraged you, the sites are worth seeing. Just be careful of your surroundings.On your trip youll see California Poppy and many wild flowers. BEWARE of the cow pies too. The best time to hike to Phantom Falls is in the spring. April and May are ideal. At this time of year of the wild flowers are blooming profusely. The waterfall itself, only flows during the winter and spring. The hike to the waterfalls is fairly easy. It is a fairly level hike with small ups and downs along the way. It is about 4.75 miles round-trip. Dont forget to stop along the way to admire the two waterfalls commonly referred to as Twin Ravine Falls.

This is a spectacular hike during a narrow window of time each year. You need to go when the wildflowers are at their peak in the spring (the timing differs each year, check for wildflower reports online) and a couple days after it rains so that there is water in the falls. We did a loop to Phantom Falls then to Ravine Falls at the end of March. There was no trail to Phantom Falls, and there were so many wildflowers that in order to hike anywhere you needed to crush the beautiful flowers under you feet :-\ There was a route on the far side of Phantom Falls to the bottom of the falls where we checked out the cave formation and the Coastal Range newts swimming in the pool below. Make sure to bring a map as there will likely be no discernible trail to Phantom Falls. The parking lot can be found at these coordinates: 39.595923, -121.541736

Just as the Table Mountain Reserve that contains Phantom Falls deserves five stars, the falls themselves also deserve a solid five stars. The setting is amazing, the falls are extremely impressive. On the right day, youll even get rainbows showing in the falls.One can also hike down to the base of the falls, and hike behind them. There is even a historic mine shaft behind the falls that one can view.This is an amazing destination in Spring.

A pretty easy hike. You would be surrounded by cows some of them looks scary. But if you just keep walking all they do is just to stare at you but one cow started following is and he didnt look happy i was scared af. Pretty unclear trail in the beginning. Also if you dont see the sign you’re gonna get in to a private property. Just follow the railings. It was dry when we went there, no water at all. It said that you need a permit but no one checked ours.

Hike was an easy flat hike. Once getting to phantom falls, it was more like phantom drip. You can get a bigger waterfall from a garden hose on top of a fence. Wont do it again especially taking awhile to find the start of the hike since of personal property signs telling you to go on Cherokee road.

What a joke, first the maps app gives you the wrong directions, if it wasn’t for the sign in the front of the gate to the private property no one would be able to get to the falls. Once you get to the falls guess what no water no falls … waste of my time. All social media websites should inform people any updates regarding the place. For instance Thai month is the perfect month, not right now since it’s completely dry etc etc etc.

I already went 2 times, once when there was a storm, there are 3 waterfalls, the first one I recommend, only 30 minutes depending on your speed, there is a bit dangerous part to get to the first one and I published different videos. I advise you if you dont have experience, they are quite dangerous if you are wing lovers. exploration you can go they are beautiful I would go again I weigh almost 200 pounds and I am quite small so for me it is difficult and I walk almost every day this is a beautiful experience I do not recommend children or dogs 🐕 it is quite cliff and ravines in the place too oh poisonous grass take your precautions the last 2 are on the first falls remember oh several paths once you get to the first remember that the next ones are on the first luck!

A great place for a family walk with children and dogs. On the way to Phantom Falls, there are two smaller waterfalls, Hollow Falls and Ravine Falls. We were there in January a week after the rains. There were swamps on the trail that could always be bypassed. At the second waterfall, you will need to go down to the stream and go up again. The distance from the parking spaces to the end point is 2.5 mi (4 km).

Beautiful place but the route that Google Maps gives you is not correct, it says that you go through Coal Canyon and turn left at Flag Creek but you cannot enter because it is a private property with a sign that says that the address is wrong From the APP I publish the photo below and the correct entrance is on Cherokee Rd, it is approximately 3 miles after you join leaving 70. I hope this information is useful to you because I wasted time.
