As soon as we walked into the store, we were approached by a young female employee with long hair. I did not get her name. I’ve never seen her at the Downey store. She was super friendly and helpful. She inquired if we had a dog I told her we had a cat and she told us where to find the cat toys, etc., we will definitely be there again.

I went in looking for a new cage for my dog. I was helped by two employees Isabella and cashier Esau. Esau realized I had been given the wrong color crate and helped me out with the one I actually wanted. He was very helpful and patient, he also helped me to my car. I had my two kids with me so that helped tremendously! I’ll definitely be making this my go to store moving forward. Thank you for the great customer service Esau.

Friendly staff and great customer service. I asked if they could check if they had more cat food in the back, and they did. When we go to others petco, in Bell, they are rude and not friendly. this was our first time coming to Downey. We will be coming back here. The girl that helped us out, I think her name was Vivian. Save yourself the trouble and either drive to the Cerritos one or go somewhere else. The disparity in how many people are there to help you is crazy. Takes at least 15 min to get through the line with only one person on the register. The vet clinic is also a mess. I know it’s mobile, but dang, it takes forever and my dog is already excited/upset to be here. Wish they would just make appointments farther apart if they can’t hurry.

Please do not take your dogs to get groomed here. My dog got severely cut around his ear and had to be rushed to the vet. These groomers are not held to any standards and lack empathy. My dog is still recovering and still finds himself and myself in extreme distress. If I could give 0 stars I would. They don’t deserve to be in service.

So, I took my dog to get a bath. I paid extra for the essential service because my dog has skin issues. Apparently they don’t express your dogs anal glands unless you specifically tell them to, and that was one of the primary motivations for us taking her to a groomer. I assumed because it was listed as a part of the base service, which I paid for, that it would happen without me having to specifically ask for it. Anywho, we called the store back two hours later when my dogs glands started leaking everywhere and she was visibly uncomfortable. They told us we had to specifically ask them to do it and if we need it done we can go to a vets office. Do better.

Lack of cashiers and the bathroom condition was sickening. Jonathan was working as cashier on both registers at the same time. He was doing the best he could considering one of the customers asked about 10-15 questions. He called over the inter come for help and no one came so he called again and finally a female employee walked up slowly and complained to him that he had cut her break short 4 minutes not what a customer wants to hear while waiting and the line kept growing. I used the bathroom and it was filthy. There was used toilet paper on the side of the toilet...need I saw more. It was a mess. I hope the manager sees this review and makes some changes. I would rather drive a few miles further and go to Petsmart.

Went in today to purchase a guinea pig, when I walked into the store manager MARI was very rude, lied about protocol, told me that I had to show her a picture of my guinea pig cage put together and set up, I walked away called petco in south gate they informed me that this isnt protocol for purchasing a guinea pig, she then told me that they were short staff and to come back the following day, I wasnt!...stated she had to make a call... a gentleman then can out and assisted me...this is the only reason why they got 2 stars and not 1...he was great, patient and couldnt believe MARI told me what she told me about having the cage put together and set up before purchasing the guinea pig, MARI needs to be fired (I dont care if she is a manager) I should of got headquarters phone number and called above her to complain because MARI was ridiculous, rude, lied and very hard to deal with

I bought some flea medication for my dog. It was 7 tablets. The young lady that helped me said if it does not work you can get a refund. Use up to 6 of them, if it does not work to your liking you can get a refund. I said ok than you I will it try it. I did what she asked me to do and the lady that I wanted to get a refund from laughed and mocked me. Stating that I almost used them all. I explained myself and she tried to say it was a 10 week treatment when its for dogs 10 weeks and older. I will try it again hopefully theres a Manger that can help me without trying to make me look like someone trying to take advantage. I didnt even want to buy them because I didnt trust the chews. The young lady said I could get a refund as long as there was at least 1 left. I wanted the chew to work. Hours later my dog was still scratching and biting away.

Came to get my dog groomed at 10 in the morning. My groomer shows up late. So I gave my dog one of Petco products to help calm him. That they recommend to me so he can relax while getting a bath. I told my groomer this and one other groomer who wants to be a boy so bad claims it’s a policy that they can’t take any dogs under the calming products. Which I don’t understand why one of the other groomers told me to do that and now they are saying they can’t take him in. I’m done with Petco this isn’t the first Petco I had issues with the one off Lakewood their grooming sucks as well.

Tried having a conversation with one of the employees about a part they have and person wasnt friendly enough. They werent rude but you can tell they just wanted to clock out so they can go home. Then they had 1 person working the register and looking for things even though there were others there. I was absolutely shocked on how knowledgeable and caring the staff is! They arent working there because its a job, at least at this location. They really cared for peoples pets. They make recommendations, not to up-sell but true recommendations for the quality of your pets life.I was here on a business matter but I will be driving here for my dogs needs. Yes, Ill be passing by about 10 pet stores 10 miles out of my way, one way. But I love my dogs, so 20 miles round trip is nothing compared to their health and happiness.

This is made to be super convenient. The store associates couldnt find the tablet for which is used for Store Pick up. It was eventually found and when I was given my food, one of the bags were wrong. It was quickly corrected. These were things that happen and I wasnt upset. I will continue to use the Online Order Pick Up. This was a rare occurrence as most of my visits are fairly quick.

I found the inventory at this Petco to be very limited. The staff were nice, but I didnt find most of what I was looking for. I even found the engraving system for pet tags to be inferior to the one at Petsmart--Petcos limits me to two lines on each side, whereas Petsmarts lets me add three to the reverse.

Took our dog to get his first bath. We had probably the first appointment of the day so that probably affected things. We were a bit late but everything still went smoothly. I went to this Petco for supplies for my bearded dragon, and I absolutely hate this store, only go there because it is the closest one to me. I am 9 months pregnant and needed assistance with a 40 gallon tank, so I called and had it on hold at the register. When I went in to get a new heat bulb, I asked the employee feeding the reptiles a question about the bulb and was rudely replied to with, Yeah, what do you need? I walked off and got what I needed, and a few other supplies, then went to check out at the register. I had to wait 15 minutes to pay for my items, the cashier was rude and had no customer service experience at all. I asked how her day was, she ignored me. My son tried to ask her a question and she ignored him and rolled her eyes. I mentioned I also had the 40 gallon tank on hold, and not only was it NOT at the register like I was told, but I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for the tank to be brought up just so she could ring it up. I asked if I could get some assistance getting it into the car, and it was just put onto a tiny shopping cart and left at the front door before the employee walked off. In addition the reptiles are kept in poor condition, one of the bearded dragons had MBD so bad it couldnt walk. If they hired people who cared for the pets and stopped hiring tweakers, maybe the store would improve.

Petcos not too busy on Tuesdays but they do have academy classes next door and do drills in the parking lot so I would suggest to park in the front and not on the side or back on the building. Great customer service here not too many varieties on Bones it look like they were sold out. A few a few items are for clearance but still high priced smaller store than most .

Normally, I like to write positive reviews, but when I went to Petco, there system was down and they only accepted cash.I dont understand why they couldnt go old school and use the knuckle buster like in the old days for taking your credit card number without the duplication slip.There attitude was like oh, well. I only had a certain amount of cash with me so I couldnt get all the items I wanted. Crystal is the most amazing groomer.She always treats the groom-ees with respect and listens to the owners regarding what keeps them calm and happy while they are in an unfamiliar place.I am also fond of the people that work in the reptile department as they are incredibly knowledgeable and more than willing to help you find the reptilian critter thatSometimes the cashiers are quite rude, but not all the time. Ive worked retail enough to know that some days just are harder than others. Im also a frequent customer to this location, even though its pretty far out of my way. There are two locations that are closer, but no other location can top this one. They hire well, and the workers seem to stick around, so they must be treated well there as well.The overall feel of the environment is upbeat and positive, and Ive never seen this location in a state of disrepair or with empty shelves.Ill definitely be back!

The order pick up itself was easy the unfortunate part is that they only had one cashier at the time and I actually had a few items I wanted to buy but they rang up higher than the website showed and the register needed someone to override the changes and the line was getting longer and longer and I felt for the cashier because I was stressing for her to the point where I asked her to put my stuff aside and ring other people up. I wasnt in a rush but many of the people in line seemed bothered that there was only one lane open. The cashier called out for help through the store intercom system but nobody came up for a good 10-15 minutes until Im assuming the store manager saw the situation and thats when the cashier asked to help me because the price at store didnt match the online price. They overrode the price and I was on my way.

8580 Firestone Blvd, Downey, CA 90241Yesterday, Thursday,, while driving from my DTLA studio to see my mother in Bellflower, she asks me to pick out a couple cans of cat food.I park in front and enter the store where a manager is posted up at the door. Having Ben to this store numerous times, I have a routine.Veer left to say hello to the kitties, peruse the fish tanks looking for tiger Oscars. Trip out on the four chameleons, then head to the cat food.Half way down the isle I look up to see the door employee briefly check me out, then walk away. I move to the next aisle, and again watch the same petco associate walk past the aisle giving me a glance.She then returns 30 seconds later walks towards me asking if I needed help. I tell her Im buying catfish for my moms cats, and am trying to channel them to narrow down the myriad options.Ive picked out three pouches, when I notice Police swarming the aisle, asking me to put the cat food down.Im asked if I have any weaponsIm asked if I have any needles.Im asked if Im on parole or probation.Im then searched. My computer bag is searched. And nothing is discovered.The officer informs me they were called in by the manager who saw me stash store items on my person, and that I was with others who came with me, and that had run out the door with merchandise.The manager of this store is a liar. She saw me park and walk in alone. She lied about my putting merchandise in my pockets.The police escorted me out of the store, as apparently petco has the right to refuse me service. I would understand if I had actually done something illegal, but I did not.So why did the manager single me out? Because she is a miserable porcine, hater.All in all, a pathetic lack of professionalism by the Petco manager. My mom shops there once a week. She has two cats and she also feeds dozens of cats abandoned by the 91 freeway and Clark Ave.Ill never shop ar petco again, and after hearing how petco treated me, neither shall my mom.Disgusted,

Rose, the groomer is awesome when I used to take my pup to her before she passed away. I tried taking my other pup there but she has trauma and doesn’t trust people so unfortunately they couldn’t groom her. Either way I recommend Rose.

Its really hard to find better quality cat food that my cats actually like. They love the Canidae Adore. But with 12 rescue cats, and at $2.29 a cat, it can get REALLY expensive. However, I found some great sale prices on the Adore which helps right now after losing my job during this pandemic.

The staff who helped me during my visit to the Vetco clinic were super helpful and very kind. Most seemed very surprised that I took a cat into the clinic, Im guessing mainly people take their dogs. But the staff understood that she was terrified and treated her very well and ensured her safety. The vet who met with me to give my girl her shots, Dr. DeLynn Humphrey, I felt was very concerned for my girl and gave me some excellent advice.

Our experience with this Petco was really bad today. We tried to buy something and the cashier named Joyce was extremely rude to use and gave use the wrong price. We told her that she put the price in wrong. She proceeded to yell at us until she called the manager over. We explained our problem and the manager helped use get through it. I understand that we are in a tough situation with covid-19 but she had no right to yell at me in front of my child. We are not sure why she was rude it could be she was having a bad day or something to do with racism.

But, there are a few issues with this store that I will detail below:• DO NOT get a dwarf gourami from this store. They all (or at least most of them) have Iridovirus. I have bought 2 DGs at this Petco and one died and the other one is deteriorating (I bought they both before I knew about the likelihood of Iridovirus in DGs).• Sometimes there is low stock, particularly for cat foods, so I can never be sure if they will have the cat food I need.

I noticed this past the return date so I threw them away since they smelled moldy. 3rd online order I decided to get a new broth which again, has small holes like mini cuts. The bag was wet but I thought it was just hand sanitizer. I didn’t notice the leak until I got home. I will be returning this. One thing is to be told that we are unable to be assisted in the beginning, another is to be lied to.We needed fishes for the event of our lives and were told, multiple times in agreement, that we can call a week in advance to have the fish ordered and ready. A month passes and a week before the event, the same date we were instructed to call, the same person that we spoke to said that they dont supply fish for that kind of stuff. He knew of the event and our intended use the first time we spoke, yet he still refused us. Not only does he diminish our wedding as simply stuff but doesnt have the decency to supply what we agreed on a month before the event. We didnt speak just once, but were consisted in keeping in contact to re-verify the necessary amount and the type of fish. Very disappointed and angry that a company would allow such falsehoods and neglect directed toward their customers.

This is quite a small Petco ! Its fine if you have a dog or cat. The selection for them seemed great. Even for anything that is either a fish or cold blooded. But if you need something for your small animals pet such as mice, hamsters, rabbits, etc., FORGET IT !! They have, in total, only enough items to fill one half of one side of the shortest aisle in the store !! I became so citrate ! My little ones are just as important as someone elses dog or cat ! Worst customer service Ive ever had. I called ahead on the phone and asked of they had a product in, after confirming that they had one left in stock I asked them to place it on hold for me so that I could pick it up after I got off work. Had to wait a super long time for vaccination boosters for my dog. There was only 1 other person ahead of me in line. It didnt appear that there was anyone working at the vetinerary hospital or the grooming salon desk, which is next to the hospital & had a longer line. Finally, after over half an hour wait, someone finally showed up, but the people ahead of me in line left without getting any kind of services. The employee disappeared again & I had to wait another 5 or 7 minutes before the employee returned. My dog & I were taken right back after filling out the required paperwork. She got her shots immediately. We picked up a couple things we needed & went up to check out, where we found all the employees that werent at the vetinerary hospital or grooming salon...they were all standing up at the registers visiting with each other as there were no customers waiting to check out. Thankfully, we were checked out quickly & finally left. We spent about 45 minutes total in the store to accomplish something that should have taken no more than 15. Wouldnt have been an issue, but I am disabled (amputated left leg & extremely bad back) Im not supposed to be on my feet for more than 10 -15 minutes at a time & was absolutely miserable when we left. Went home & spent the rest of the day & all of the next in bed unable to move.I went to Petco because there store is smaller than PetSmart, so I thought it would be easier on me physically. I was wrong. Ill go back to PetSmart next time. Their prices are much lower & they have a much better selection so I dont mind a bit of a walk & the resulting back spasms.

I went to buy saline solution to flush my dogs eye out, it has been bothering him for days. One of the employees saw me looking lost and quickly asked if I needed help. Michael, is the employees name, he helped me out from start to finish, he quicky knew what I needed and walked me over to the isle. After giving me all of the information on the product he handed it to me and also advised to talk to the vet they have in the store in case I had any questions, wasnt happy with what the vet had to say (because the tech wasnt trained on the products that petco sells) I purchased the product that Michael had originally given me. Upon check out Michael still went above and beyond to check if the product was on sale which it was so instead of paying full price of $24.99 I only paid $10.99 I will definitely be going back! Went in today looking for a red long haired dauschund and to my disappointment they do not have puppies at this location. However my step son seen a guinea pig he really wanted. I seeked out an employee because I had some questions about what I needed to buy for the guinea pig. When asked that I needed to speak to their manager she answered “ go find her yourself”. Firstly I did not like the way the reptile section was being g cleaned I worked for Petco in Glendale as Cashier and sometimes I had to clean and feed aquatics section, reptile section, etc...i would remove the reptiles and put them in a holding tank provided by petco then wipe down glass clean water bowls moisten plants. But your worker Socrates the terrariums with spray bottle while reptiles where in there making causing stress for them the python tried to bite me hitting his snout on the glass he stood there watching the whole thing now because of the stress and agitation selling those pythons to an unknowing customers they will be bitten. I strongly suggest training your employees the proper way to clean tanks without causing any distress or anxiety to the future pets to someone.

Had a young man named Freddy, help me with my purchases by putting the bags of dog food in my shopping cart then in my card.
