We have a flat tire it’s the 4th of July and the whole family was in the car. This was the only place that was open. We asked if they could fit us in for a tire to get home and they simply said no that they had not time for us. All I can say is if this were Discount Tires they would have made room to help so that a family wouldn’t be stranded in the heat. This was not a good experience at all.

I never went to any Pep Boys for a real mechanical issue, it was always for tires, oil, brakes. But this time my engine lost power and Ish found the problem in a sec (3 different 5 stars Mechanics couldnt find it) a lot of respect for that man. Good pricing, labor was 30% under what I will pay somewhere else. Thanks for the good service

I was so glad to find out that Pep Boys is open on Sundays, as I couldnt put off getting my slow leak fixed in between trips up to Orange County. Alejandro was very informative about my options and was able to get the tire done quickly, even with a full bay of repairs.

My first 1 star Google review but it is so well deserved. If you are looking for a dishonest and unethical mechanic in Encinitas area this is your shop!They will take your car, put dents and deep scratches and never admit they did it! They will then tell you that the security footage is in a secret archive that they do not have access to how convenient !!!!!The mysterious archive can only be accessed by a special team that only the claim processor has access to but guess what, the claim processor will do everything in her power to dodge your calls, not answer emails, not make any effort in getting the top secret footage.Just save yourself the trouble of going through all this headache and don’t come here.

The Service At this PepBoys Was Excellent. I drive 36 Miles Each Way too this shop. Alex The Manager is Great he takes care of the issues I Have. An Listening Too His taking Care of other Customers and Explaining there problems an how too fix them. He gives the Customers Options an let them Decide which way too go. He doesnt push the Customer.

I have been going to Pep Boys for the last few oil changes. You can make an appointment and it takes about 1 hr. They usually have a coupon so the price is reasonable. Nice guys working the customer service desk.

We had an absolutely perfect experience the other day when we dropped in for a set of windshield washer blades. Stuart and Alex were behind the counter and dealt with us professionally and efficiently. While we were disappointed that the retail store was closed due to an ownership change, the item we needed was available and Joaquin quickly installed them at no charge. Three cheers for all three gentlemen! We will be back when service is needed for our vehicles...

Had brake pads replaced on my Subaru yesterday however, the work created an additional issue which they were unable to fix and I was left with several vehicles warning lights and safety systems were rendered inoperable. I had to take my vehicle to Subaru, at my expense, and pay to have them resolve the issue. Pep Boys has yet to provide a reimbursement. I feel if they offer this service, they should have the necessary equipment and knowledge to deal with any contingency. I feel the manager should have contacted Subaru and asked for direction to resolve the issue. I left the facility with little confidence that vehicle was safe to operate. Subaru did say that the pads were installed properly and nothing was broken however I was left in a mess and had to spend the whole day and additional money to resolve the issue created by them. I was promised a reimbursement but have not received anything as of yet.

We had a screw in our tire on a Sunday. No other shops are open to help except Pep Boys! They were very busy but still fit us into their schedule! Unfortunately the tire was beyond repair, and they honored my warranty and offered a couple options on buying a new tire with a discounted rate. An affordable option and a slightly higher option. It was a very easy experience and I really appreciate their help and being open on a Sunday!! Thanks, guys!

Have taken my cars here for a long time for oil change due to convenience and price. They routinely significantly overfill the Kia even though we tell them the capacity. This time they found a dead mouse in the air box and refused to take out unless we paid to change the filter. Ask they had to do was pick it up and drop it in the garbage. Manager was unhelpful and just complained he was overbooked because pep boys online system doesnt sync with store and just allows unlimited booking online.

Had a flat tire on vacation in San Diego on a Sunday. Changed the flat tire to the spare tire but we had to drive back to LAX to catch flight later that day and all tire service places are closed except Pep Boys. Made appointment online. When we arrive the manager explained there was only one mechanics at the shop that day and they are super busy. After I explained our situation, that I cannot drive the car back to LAX safely with the spare tire they replaced our flat tire within an hour. We are so grateful for their help.

I arrived a few minutes prior to my appointment and am informed that they don’t have any record of my appointment. I showed my email confirmation and then am told that I should have called as their electronic appointment system often doesn’t show the online schedules or take into account how many people are already scheduled. It just adds on appointments regardless of the real schedule. They’ll take care of me but it might be an hour or more to install a battery. I’m not pleased as I’ve got other commitments but need a battery. The service gets done but seriously if they want to stay in business, get into the 21st century and get their act together on scheduling electronically. Some customer service training wouldn’t hurt also. Just a poor overall experience though I did at least get the battery.

If I can out negative stars, I would. Service advisor Stuart was not friendly at all until the end when he graciously took the money for the services. He was very rude and spoke to us as if we we’re bothering him. We definitely did not feel wanted. Technician Makana? He did not work with urgency in fact working so slow. Tech “forgot” to torque down the lug nuts to spec. When I had mentioned that to the service advisor he said they normally do which I had watched him install it back onto the vehicle. Contacted the tech and he did in fact admit in fault for “forgetting”. The location was not busy at all. It was a late Sunday evening and I am not sure why they wouldn’t want to get the sale until the end. As a retail manager this act of service was very unprofessional. My wife and I were rudely spoken to and the craft behind it all was a mess. If I hadn’t told him what to do, we would probably have drove down the freeway and cause an accident because a tire was not tighten to spec. Also, they claim to sanitize the vehicle. That is also a lie. This whole transaction was a joke. If I didn’t have to drive an hour and a half away from my house. I would have rolled on my spare until I can go to another trusted tire shop. I do not recommend. You get what you pay for over here. Complete trash. I really hope this gets straighten out for the future customer this establishment would be lucky to have.

I bought the Bosch Advanced AGM Platinum L5H8 battery in 2019 when PepBoys was still running their Parts Dept. It came with 48-month Replacement Warranty. In August 2023, the battery can no longer hold charge. I brought the battery to PepBoys Auto Service since they have no longer had Parts Dept. With my original receipt, the process was a breeze. After 15 min wait for the manager to do his paper works, I got a brand-new battery. It was not exactly the same battery it replaced since PepBoys no longer carries outside brand. They gave me PepBoys brand, EFB type, same size H8, same CCA 850A, similar RC 170, exact fit in my wagon. The Bosch cost me $150 in 2019. This PepBoys EFB will run $209 if bought it today. I got it for free. As far as how it works with my wagon, it starts positively stronger, charged and hold charged well. I will have to see how long it will last but for now, I am super happy. Very shady... dont trust these guys with your car. They wanted 400 to tighten a screw that holds the parking brake shoes in the back wheel. They wanted to replace the whole thing. After I refused the service they held my car hostage for half a day. Saying the mechanic left. These are the people who give mechanics a bad name. And they kept raising their diagnostic fee every time I called them. Please stay away from these people.

Brought my car in for a brake inspection. Alex assisted me, from the beginning he was extremely helpful, explaining the situation, informing me of the wait time, and overall reassuring me that the situation would be taken care of. This place has been around a long while and is constantly busy, they got me in and out really quick. Had to pay $100 for a test I already did but they didnt give me a choice. I gave them an error code I was able to get on my code reader, but they insisted they could not fix any code unless they did the test. So I approved it. They of course told me what the code was, same as I already knew, and then proceeded to give me an estimate for over $1000 to replace a sensor that they claimed would cost almost $500 for the part. Turns out the part actually only costs $200 and even cheaper depending on which company you get the part from. These were all new parts from new part suppliers online. So on top of this debacle, they did an oil change did not approve and charged me $40 for something I can do myself for the 4 quarts of oil I can buy for about $4 a quart. They also charged me $40 for a cooling system check when I told them the car had a coolant leak and I just wanted an estimate to get it fixed. I also asked for an estimate to get new tires. Fortunately there is no cost to look at the tires otherwise they would have charged me for that too. At the end of the day they gave me estimates totaling $5400 to do a bunch of major overhauls to my 22 year old car that I told them. was just looking to do a minimum to keep it going for a few months. I went back to get the car and they did not apply the 25% discount on the oil change, so I had to ask to have that applied. I had to pay $170 for some stupid tests I did already told them what services I needed, and 4 quarts of oil. I left, bought a can of radiator stop leak, fixed the radiator for $10, and went someplace else to get tires. Basically this place used to be honest, and charge honest prices. Now its just a total rip off. Trying to gouge customers for huge bills and high markups on parts. They used to not charge the high prices for parts when their auto store was still open. Its all BS. They are CROOKS! Dont go here.

My mechanic for years retired(35 min away) and it forced me to look for a new one closer to home. I have never even thought of going to Pep Boys, although I buy all my auto needs there. I needed an oil change.... after it was done... gulp, waiting for the up sell to begin. Alex was great at letting me know what they found. Nothing urgent but..... I told him that I would do all the filter/bulb changes, etc and he did not give me a sales pitch about how hard they would be(like I have received before) I went home and did my research. Looked in my files(as I have been ripped off before) Everything they found was legit. Priced WAY better than other mechanics. I made an appointment with Gary, the manager. I received emails and text reminding me of the service time. I received an email letting me know my car was ready for pick up. It was done in the time frame they gave me. They have a 6 months labor warranty. Immediately driving off, I noticed sounds new to the car. Alex told me to make another appointment for that. And man, did he take care of me! I needed another part but the labor was free since they had worked on what was needed. I found my new mechanic!!!Gary and Alex, thank you! You are the best!My only suggestion is to make an appointment as they are a VERY busy shop. It is unrealistic to think you will get squeezed in.

Went in today because my car was making strange noises. Alex was very friendly and made sure he knew exactly what I needed. They finished checking my car quicker than expected (even thought they were pretty busy) and they gave me a detailed rundown of what they found. Instead of recommending useless fixes to get more money, he was honest about which repair I needed at the moment to make sure the car continues to run safely. Hoss the mechanic went to work right away on my car after I gave the okay, and the whole repair was done in less than 20 mins. Drove home afterward with no more noises coming from my car.

I drove up thinking it was an auto parts store, but figured Id ask for help anyway. I needed a screwdriver as my rear blinker was out! I came in with my awkward request to borrow a screwdriver and Im sure theyll remember this one 😅 After checking with the mechanics to make sure he wasnt taking anyones tools, the gentleman at the front allowed me to borrow a screwdriver. I already had the spare bulb and *thought* I had a screwdriver in my emergency kit. I let him know my car was right in front and he could see and know Im just quickly replacing the bulb. I live an hour away and the bulb went out while driving up to a doctors appointment. I also have pain in my back today and using arm signals to change lanes and turn for an hour just wasnt going to cut it. Helping with my odd little request and being light-hearted about it made my burden a little lighter today. Thanks to helping someone in need!

This location was great. Both Kyle and Grant did a great job of getting our special needs vehicle brought back up to factory specs. Master Tech Derick went above and beyond by being extremely thorough putting the finishing touches, repairing, and aligning a 26 year Camry after a complete suspension upgrade.Im really impressed with the way this team conducted themselves. They are real pros. I wouldnt hesitate going back again.

I called to see about getting my right signal bulb changed. Lance Paradise said “Come on in and we’ll check out if it’s an easy fix”, if not I was going to make an appointment for tomorrow. WELL, let me just say I wasn’t happy with the service, I was ecstatic, doing cartwheels and so pleased with Lance and Alex. I was there for less then 15 minutes and especially pleased with the price( less then $10). Lance did tell me though the left signal will be more because of the difficulty of getting to it. I’m glad for the heads up on that. And to think I was going to bring it to the Ford dealership. What was I thinking? If I could give Pep Boys Encinitas 10 stars I would have!. I booked an appointment online for an oil change. However the price that I saw online and the price that I was quoted in store were two different prices. However Grant and Gary really understood where I was coming from after I explained how the website is misleading and went above and beyond to help me. They really did care to make sure I was completely satisfied, I recommend them, but please make sure you get a quote before you come in the door just to make sure you’re on the same page. The employees all seemed very nice, but they told me that I absolutely needed to get new brakes and new tires because they were in the red... I was skeptical as I had just gone to the dealer only a few months before and they had not mentioned it.I then drove HALFWAY across the country and got the brakes and tires checked when I arrived at my destination (by 3 different auto shops), only to find that they were in fine shape. I concluded that Pep Boys tried to rip me off as I was driving to a different state, which shows poor integrity and makes me distrust them greatly.

Went above and beyond when I needed help with my car. My breaks were squealing so loud so I took my car in to Pep Boys in Escondido. After 2 hours, the manager in charge called me and said my rotors were warped and my break pads were destroyed due to the rotors. They were quoting me at 600. Since I couldnt swing that amout, I bought the parts and had my Dad replace everything for me.My rotors were fine no warping AT ALL, my breaks had about 75% life left on each side. I was so angry because I would take both my cars there. God knows what else they charged me for that didnt need replacing.I returned the break pads and rotors and demanded my money back. The best the regional mgr offered me was to just deal with him directly when I needed future service.I will never go back there again!!! This place has workers that scam you, it make them look good if they detect and replace parts on cars.Be aware, check your car and make them show you why they think ANYTHING needs to be replaced!

I needed to replace my windshield wipers (which were a pain in the A$$ to remove). I went into the store and was immediately assisted by Andrew. I would give this place zero stars if it allowed me to. I called and asked about their price matching, and they told me to bring in a printout from the competing store and said they would beat their price. So, I took the printout into this store and dropped it off. I received a call the next morning saying that they would not honor the price match after they had already told me they would honor it. I have never heard of any business telling you they would do something, then turning around and changing their mind. That is as bad as customer service gets. I would not trust anything this store tells you, and would look elsewhere to do any business related to your car. Not to mention, I had to go a long way out of my way so I could get the printout from the other store, which I did, since I was assured they would match the price. When I told this to the person at Pep Boys, who was the one who dishonored the deal, which had already been made, he was completely uncaring and indifferent. I even spoke to the store manager, who also did absolutely nothing about the situation. I have never seen anything like this at any business. I cannot stress enough to stay away from this store, particularly the service center.

I came in at the appropriate time when i was told they could get to my fast oil change i needed, John had NO idea what was going on even though Cliff told me i could come in and have it done. I had to leave work early to try to get my simple little oil change done. and now all they could tell me is that they would have to leave it for a day,... FOR AN OIL CHANGE?!!!!! This place sucks.

Tom in service is horrible!!!!!!! Horrible person!!!! Our family broke down in the rain had a tow truck tell us to go to pep boys 45 minutes before closing after a jump start. We needed to have our battery checked before the long drive home. The guy said sorry we dont have time. I said are you kidding... its raining... I have young kids and I dont want to break down again!?!? He said no sorry. I then said so obviously you dont care about a family breaking down in the rain if our battery is bad. He says you have triple a dont you!?!? Talk about horrible customer service. Andrew in the main department was great and tried to be helpful. He was literally the only one that cared and profusely apologized. He was helping 3 customers at once and everyone else was not wanting to help. It was ridiculous!!!

Horrible Customer Service, I left my car with them before I went on a 3 day work trip. Needed them to change the oil, rotate the tire and fix a flat. They called and told me I had a blown head gasket, so I asked if the coolant was low because it wasnt leaking any oil. The worker told me they would have to call me back the next day because they did not check. I called them back the next day after not hearing from them, and they refused to do any work on the car, that included fixing the flat tire. They started yelling at me to come pick up the car. So i had to calm the employee down, which was weird.When i got back from my trip, I drove the car home with the flat as they wouldnt even put air in it. Then proceeded to replace the oil, which was fine. No blown head gasket, it was as i explained to the guys that work on cars regularly, if they pulled the dip stick they would have seen the oil was fine. It was low on oil, which caused condensation to form on the oil cap and when the oil hit the cap, it mixed the oil. so at the oil cap it looked milky. This was confirmed later by someone else, looking at the vehicle.So I would suggest taking the car somewhere else.

8 weeks ago we had over $600 worth of brake work done on my sons jeep. After calling around Pep Boys was not the cheapest but did have a $40 rebate once the work was done. If your expecting to ever get your rebate forget it. I have called & called and the same answer is always given Its being processed.. Now the rebate line to call in is no longer. 9 weeks now and still NO rebate.. Beware of the Pep Boys rebates !!!!!!!Do not get fooled by their offer of rebates once the work is done. It will NEVER come!!!!!Im back 10 weeks later I have received an e-mail saying they were processing my rebate BUT now its only for $20.00 and NOT the $40.00 that they advertised. Also going to be another 2 to 4 weeks.For those looking at Pep Boys to take advantage of their promotions buyer beware. Its the OLD bait and and switch. Bring them in under the pretense their getting a rebate then get nothing and if you complain they offer you half of what you are suppose to get.DO NOT fall into the same trap I did !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wifes auto battery died suddenly. We jump-started it and took it to Pep Boys down the road. (This was on a federal holiday (MLK Day).)I asked if a new battery could be installed in an hour, the gentleman said yes: in an hour the auto was ready to be driven back home (and wife and I had a good lunch!). Pep Boys Gentleman was courteous and helpful. Its just an auto battery, but based on this experience, we are very pleased.

They scheduled me for an appointment later in the week and assured me I would be taken care of then, they even added a note re the issue with the online booking.When arriving for my appointment later in the week I was told they were behind and absolutely could not fit me in. They said they had tried to call but apparently had the wrong number.I will not be returning for another “cancelled” appointment! Get it together, Pep Boys!

The AC on my car was not cooling. I took it to Pep Boys and asked that they check the freon level and add more if needed. The charge was $50 to check the AC. I got a call two hours later and they informed me that they had topped off the freon but informed me that their was something else wrong and quoted me $250 more to do the work. I took my car to a different AC specialist and they informed me the AC was fine and it just needed freon. They charged me $30 and my AC was working fine.

Our luggage was stuck in a Lyft drivers jammed trunk. We went to three car dealers - none would help. Bought hardware to try to get in at WalMart - didn’t work. Finally tried Pep Boys. The wonderful mechanics did not stop until the trunk was open. Unfortunately we miss our flight, have incurred a fee of $3000 to rebook. However, I felt the need to send huge kuddos and thanks to the Encinitas’s mechanics. Thank you!

I scheduled a simple oil change online and showed up a little early for my appointment. Pep Boys service department was obviously unprepared for my appointment time, but they assured me that my oil change would be complete within the hour. I was very perturbed by the seemingly incompetent service department and ended up asking for my keys back after almost an hour of waiting for them to pull my car in to begin the oil change. This was my first and last experience at Pep Boys; stay away from their service department.

Just rating on simply two visits the past month for Encinitas since my old neighborhood favorite Pep Boys was in Clairemont. I found the customer service lacking in both the service dept and cashier. Not helpful at all. And the place wasnt even busy. However, a young guy inside the store did give me 5 star help finding something out of stock on the shelf, K&N filter cleaner then checked for a rebate item, STP fuel cleaner, which he found out that the store stopped carrying. Serve the customer with a good attitude and Im sure itll be the best auto store in town.

Similar to others...took my car in for an oil change and asked that they also try to find the source of a leak. Had the car a day - I called to check on status and they told me they were having trouble with it and needed to keep it overnight. They would get to it first thing. Called the next day, mid-afternoon, asked me what the car was there for and it was obvious they hadnt even looked at it. I asked if they had done anything with it - no, was the answer. Note, I had to call and check on it. I told them to hold off and went and picked it up and wont be going back.
