They were very rude and tried to overcharge me. They quoted me $900 for a brake change on my truck. I refused, went inside the stor and bought all the parts for $96. I decided to do it myself and did it in about three hours. Saved $800 and never have to deal with these rude, unfriendly people again. They told me they would not even look at my car for 45 minutes even with an appointment so I went home. They never called me, I had to call them 90 minutes later. They quoted me crazy prices that are triple retail so I refused and they got even ruder. They told me they would call me when my car was ready to be picked up, which of course they never did. I will NEVER return!

PROS: Went in for four new tires. They had the tires for my car and took it same day. Loved that. Associate was friendly and provided all the needed information.CONS: The car was an hour late, ok, that happens, but getting an update would have been nice. No call, no way to track it in an app as far as I know. It wasnt done until after the shop closed at 6pm. It was done around 6:10. Worse, they didnt inflate the tires all the way (about 10-15 psi too low) and they didnt put the wheel covers back on completely in 3 of the 4 tires. I could have easily lost the wheels on the road if I hadnt checked.

We woke up Sunday morning to a flat tire! This tire had been repaired by Pep Boys about a month earlier. They were able to remove the nail and plug the hole, and didnt charge us a penny!After church, we had AAA tow us to Pep Boys, and they pulled a strip of metal from the tire and fixed the tire again! Once again, Pep Boys did not charge us a cent!I highly recommend this Redondo Beach store and gladly offer this review!

Service advisors are rude, I was told I would get called back within a day for the service quote and I didn’t . I called back in 2 days to give them time, and was told again that I’d get a call back but I didn’t . Then I called back hours later and was told I would get another call back and I said no more call backs I’m trying to send the car back with you guys and give you the business . I guess they don’t want it till today no call back or email with the service quote. I won’t be taking my car back to this location they’re rude and see you waiting and pass by like no one is there same with the pick up .

I would give it 0 stars but its not an option. Took my car in for a diagnostic test on Feb 9th 2024 ( I already knew what was wrong with it)Bought it in at 8 with an appointment didnt get it back till 6:15pm. Drove off and my car run like a piece of CRAB! All of a sudden it has black smoke and misfiring. I took it right back and they tell me they didnt to anything to it. YES they DID!!! Now all of a sudden I have oil leaking into the engine on the 10th February. And those codes are on there that wasnt on there on the 9th. I took my car in for a DIAGNOSTIC TEST not to be TAMPERED WITH in order to CHARGE me extra MONEY!!!!Customer service suckedbecause it took extremely too long to get back to me. I wouldnt recommend this location to anybody I had a VERY HORRIBLE experience. Do better when it comes to your female clients.

Never been to a Pepboys before being from Canada, we dont have them but was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in in hopes of finding 1-2 things and found a bunch of stuff that I needed. Definitely worth the stop by for any mechanic, automotive enthusiasts or anyone needing some work done on their car ... will be visiting this location in the future for sure!!! Friendly & helpful staff were great as well!

This is a review for Carlos Molina, Manager of Pep Boys on 1800 Artesia Blvd., Redondo Beach. Carlos is professional, accommodating and above all -- very ethical. He assisted me with a defective battery return that involved contacting 4 other locations to locate another battery and he picked it up from a distant location the next day plus followed up with a notication phone call. Superb customer service -- THEY SHOULD CLONE HIM!!!!!!

Took my jeep in and shared with them that I just need a basic oil change, and that every time I took it into Valvoline, (next door) they’d unnecessarily charge me for things my car didn’t need like a flush, or forget to cap something or overall cause more problems. I service my car with an oil change every three months and was just looking for a steady honest place to take it to, every three months. I shouldn’t have shared this vulnerable info with pep boys because the guys a pep boys tried to take me for a fool as well! I went in on Monday and expressed to them My bad experiences with just trying to get a basic oil change. I didn’t want fancy synthetic this or that, just a basic oil change that they advertise, and yet I come out on the other end with additional unexpected costs every time.I left my car at pep boys for an oil change. When I returned, they advised me that I needed front brake pads. I took their word for it and While I was there, I scheduled an appointment for that Friday to come back and get brake pads. When I came back on Friday, just four days later, it had taken them several hours from the time I drop the car off and picked it up, but when I picked it up, they told me they did an overall assessment, and that I was low on oil!!! I reminded them they just gave me an oil change four days ago on Monday!!!! He pretended to look confused and went back into the garage to double check. He came out and told me that indeed, my oil was actually fine! I am wondering if I even got an oil change at this point. He then advised me that my brake fluid is low though and that I would need to bring it in because there’s a special way to put in brake fluid and honestly, I’ve serviced my own cars and have always put brake fluid in myself and have never had a problem and have never heard that brake fluid has to be put in a special way. Good lord, it was like telling one thief about another thief!!! I finally found an honest mechanic, Peter, on the other end of Artesia Boulevard and I won’t go anywhere else, and I hope Peter never hires anybody that has worked chain auto mechanics! Pep Boys thinks females are dumb when it comes to cars I’m guessing, and what the hell is wrong with a bit of honesty and work ethic? If an individual working there is perhaps financially struggling there, I would consider just getting a second job rather than trying to rip off the locals. I Just wanted a fkng oil change, great job guys!

An excellent experience! I have been going to this location for years and they have consistently done a solid job with brakes and tires at a reasonable price. This time I came in with my old van because the window mechanism broke and the window fell into the door frame. I was able to look at the window prior to taking it in and noticed a mess of wires, cables and rivets inside the door frame and decided this was way too involved for me to attempt. When I arrived Edwin checked me in and was super helpful and made sure to call me throughout the day to update me on how things were going. He gave me a quote and told me it was a little complicated because the window mechanism was attached to the door frame using rivets (not bolts) but assured me it would be done by the end of the day. I was definitely not expecting to get my vehicle back for a least another day assuming they had to order parts and it was already late Sunday afternoon. But not only were they able to fix the window in a few hours and get my vehicle back to me by the end of the day, they came in under their original estimate by 20%!! A very nice surprise. I cant say enough about how great Edwin made the entire experience, he was very professional and very easy to work with. He kept me posted on how the progress was going and took his time to explain why things were running a little behind schedule. Also, a huge thank you to the mechanic who was able to saw off the rivets and get all that hardware installed in an impossible tiny space! A great experience all around! I will definitely be coming back again!!

Update on my last post: I wrote the review just as I was informed by text they were finished and taking a test drive. Well, they had not finished and had to make an adjustment. So now, three hours and fifteen minutes after I arrived for my 30-45 minute appointment, I am finally walking out the door… and never looking back.

I took my car in for a front end alignment and an oil change. They tested my front end and it was up to standard. They called and let me know that it wasnt necessary for awhile. Made an appointment with Eduardo 8/11/23 to discuss his last alignment with him. Asked me to come in around 9:15am, Sunday 8/13/23. Woke up early on Sunday just for this, got my records of last alignments to bring with me, got there at 9:15 am and Edwin says hes not in yet and may not come in at all since it was his last day working there. Said there are 16 appointments today that he needs to call and reschedule and to leave my car and maybe they can get to it. I said I live just a block away, so please call/text if there is an opening. Never heard from anyone. Despicable. Changed all my plans this weekend to do this, woke up early, dug up my alignment reports, got there as asked,...all for nothing.

This place is truly a gem that offers great, efficient, and affordable service. I still havent found a shop that offers such good value and convenience. The best part is they offer fast service for most walk-in occasions!I had some problems with my TPMS system and Alexis the service advisor was able to help me find a solution that was half the cost of other quotes I got from adjacent shops for the same service! I walked in without an appointment, got the quote, and he finished the work himself in 20 minutes. He really took the headache out of this repair.

Tried to scam me over and added an extra charge for an additional inspection that I did not request or agreed upon. I though it was a misunderstanding at first. But when I saw the reciept and asked to provide a refund for the service that was not requested, required or even delivered, they were trying to convince me that everything is correct. I understood that Carlos tried to scam me over for an additional $19.99 fee, that was added to the invoice.

4 tires, thats it. Told me it would take an hour..It took almost 4 hours. No dedicated mechanic although I had made an appointment days in advance. Mechanics said they were working on it during breaks from other jobs. Why make an appointment? Sloppy job too. Monkey snot (tire lube) flung all over new tires and my Cragar SS rims. Paid just shy of $1k for set of tires and they didnt even wipe them down, take the blue off the lettering or clean up the mess they made of my rims. After 4 hrs and $1k - I had to go home and scrub the tires and rims myself. Very bad experience.

2 years ago Tony persuaded me to replace my rack and pinon steering ($1300+) which subsequent mechanics told me was unnecessary! He installed a DEFECTIVE rebuilt rack which began LEAKING once the *labor warranty* ended. Pep Boys has been very convenient and consistent over the years from changing out headlights/brake lights, getting new tires or a tire fix. When my aging car was literally shaking & near break down recently, they really came through for me & saved me some time & money too. I worked with Justin at the front desk & he was very kind when I called up in a panic and he worked with me throughout the day deciding what the priorities were to get my car on the road again. I appreciated his compassion & above & beyond service. Thankfully Pep Boys has long weekend hours and this allowed me not to miss work come Monday. The only reason it’s 4 and not 5 stars is that the mechanic who did the inspection initially missed a couple of key things & for some reason said my oil was low (when it was just changed 2 days prior elsewhere). The mechanic also wanted to go beyond the check engine code issue & that would’ve cost me $500 more. My issue would not have effected the oil level, so I just don’t know if that was an accidental reporting or not & also that up-selling stuff, while it may be standard practice, is not appreciated- especially when I agreed to get a lot of extra work done. Nonetheless, I don’t know of another mechanic in the area that has Pep Boys long weekend hours and could’ve taken care of the broad spectrum of things I had done. All in all, I will continue to go back & comparably their prices are better than other mechanics. Still one must always question what you’re being told. Over a week later and the car is running well, so kudos to the mechanic. Justin at the front desk made the experience a lot less stressful & saved me 10%. I also appreciate the coupons Pep Boys frequently texts me.

They provided a great service, the checked every item possible to find the oil Drip on my Chevy Cruze, conclusion was to drive more to have the dye circulate to the system then bring back. **Should be Negative Stars**On 05/06/23 I (Roger Castro) took my girlfriends van (Jeany McConnell) 2005 Dodge Caravan VIN# 1D4GP25R05B249409 License # CA5JDL513 to Pep Boys Simi Valley to be inspected for a slight smell of gasoline. Later that day they called and said that it was a fuel pump that needed replacement and that the cost would be $954 with taxes total to fix the problem,and they stated that the work would come with a warranty and they could complete the work that day. I agreed and they completedthe work that afternoon and (Service work Invoice #2186302 Store Id# 0619) was issued with receipt,BAR# ARD303419. They were in a rush to close shop and go home, but they assured me that everything was fixedand good to go. After a few weeks of the Van driving but feeling like it was sluggish or lacked acceleration, it wouldntstart on 05/27/23. My immediate assumption was that the fuel pump that was recently installed was not done correctly or in itself was defective. I was at my residence in Hermosa Beach, Ca and called the closest Pep Boys Store #0814in Redondo Beach. They were reluctant to help at first and said they were busy because of Memorial Day weekend,which I understood but told them that Pep Boys had done the work and since it is a Corporation they have to honorthe warranty and they agreed and the Van was brought in 05/27/23. Work Order# 2271588 Store Id #0814 BAR# ARD303462 I disagreed that I should have to pay another $99 for them to do a inspection on what I feel was already paid on the previous work order but I wanted to get it resolved. This is when the nightmare really started to unravel. Edwin C and Carlos Molina (Service Mgr)ordered another fuel pump which in reality is an admission that the previous work was done incorrectly. After installing in and weeks of follow up going by Carlos stated that parts of the fuel system were damaged (fuel pump relay, fuel pump assembly) in my 100% opinion it was done by Pep Boys either on the first install or the second. Then Carlos states he cant find the exact part (anywhere) that he needs to fix the issue so then they start checking junk yards which is really insane because our van is not a salvage vehicle. Theyve tried changing thefuel tank multiple times, epoxy, and the reality is they cant pressurize the fuel system. My girlfriend Jeany and I have reached out a bunch of times and there is no resolution in sight. Weve been out of use of our vehicle since 05/27/23 and Carlos states that he emailed upper management after I asked specifically for a resolution as just refunding our $954 is completely unacceptable. The Van with an evap leak and a check engine light on is essentially a totaled vehicle because Ca will not re-register such vehicle. I asked for upper management to reach out, no response from Carlos email.I called 1-800-Pepboys and was told they would reach out no response. This is horrible customer service, as everyone thats ever had mechanic work done its never inexpensive, which is part of the industry a lot of $$$ goes to labor. But also mechanics who are licensed in Ca are required to carry insurance for this very instance. They damaged our vehicle while trying to fix it, and admittedly cannot fix it now. We want our vehicle fixed correctly either by another mechanic at Pep Boys expense, or fair market value of our van that is now not going to pass a smog check allowing us to drive legally in Ca + 100% refund of our $954 which is fair.Roger CastroJeany McConnell

I arrived at the Early Bird dropoff on a Sunday morning. Alexis-Service Advisor was friendly and quickly wroteup my work order. As I was waiting in the lounge, I noticed the mechanic-Eduardo working on my Explorer. After only approx 30 minutes, Alexis notified me that my SUV was done. Waste of time. Check engine light is on. Tried the Torrance Pep Boys on Hawthorne. They told me they don’t do engine diagnostics so to make an appointment here. Made an appointment for this morning and I drove over there and I waited for over 15 minutes and no person ever came to the counter to assist customers. I just left. Do.

Requested alternator test. They informed me zero output from alternator. HOWEVER, they FAILED to inform me the alternator belt was MISSING. Yeah, no kidding the alternator wouldnt have any output. Yet, they recommended alternator be replaced, despite not performed a valid test. I took it to a REAL mechanic who put a belt on it, tested it, and said the alternator is JUST FINE ! PEB BOYS IS WHOLLY INCOMPETENT !

Ive used Pep Boys for a number of years and it was great until a few weeks ago when I took it for an oil change. The tech who worked on it was Ignacio J, who Ive never had seen before. Even the front staffs have changed.Came back to get my car and it went downhill from there. My car had a screw in my run flats and the A/C motor had burnt out. The mechanics had turned by A/C on full blast and maximum coolness before I left, but I didnt think about the air not coming through and only thought about A/C until I needed it driving on the freeway. I was very furious what they had done to my car and went back to the shop and the mechanics werent able to give me an answer and just hushed to themselves telling me he just knows oil change and know nothing about euro cars. I feel they had toyed with my car and I do not trust this store anymore. Will not be returning, sadly.In conclusion, taking your car in for a small service, will result in big problems and big bills.

I’d give zero stars if there was an option. Made an appointment, requested ONLY for a brake inspection. Was told be done in an hour and a half. Two hours pass by and then the customer service representative finally then mentioned that a full car inspection was taken place. A guy picked up and said my car was going into the bay for inspection and that he will call back in a few minutes. I waited over an hour and no call. Called the store again and the phone just rang. Absolutely horrible customer service. I would not recommend this pep boys in Redondo Beach. I was promised an hour wait and purchased 4 new tires. I walked out after 2.5 hours. It turns out they broke a sensor when replacing one of the tires. I understand things happen but noone told me until I wanted to know why it was taking so long. There were technicians standing around doing nothing. In addition, the area service directors name and number were on a sign encouraging people to call. When I called the number to complain it was the main number and the person who answered the phone was obviously reading a script as he kept saying the same thing and wasnt listening to me. His name is Carlos. He would not transfer me to Phil who is the area service director. I finally gave up. I had hoped to talk to a manager and not post this, but your company gave me no choice. Went in for a simple tire patch which should take 20-30 minutes tops. I understand there may have been a few people ahead of me but the 1-1.5 hour long wait seemed excessive still. I saw 3 people arrive after me and have their services completed before my car was even off the lift which it was on for about an hour before they actually started working on it. Ultimately it took close to 3 hours for them to finish. I was told it too so long because the “new guy” was working on it but even so there’s absolutely no reason it should take that long. I made an appointment for 10am, they open at 9am, for a brake check and to get a smog check. I dropped my car off at 9:50am and was told itd be an hour to an hour and a half. I come back at 11am, my car hadnt moved from where I parked it. About 11:10, they finally move it into the garage. I just picked up a tire plug kit from Pep Boys went home followed the instructions and the tool proceeded to break off inside of my tire. Went back to Pep Boys on a spare and while they did reimburse me for the tool they refused to repair my tire. Very, very slow. They operate painfully slow even when the store is completely empty. Employees standing and staring into space while you twiddle your thumbs, confused in front of an empty desk. These guys are super slow and relaxed. I visited here three times walk-in, everytime they tell me 2-3 hours wait time even though I dont see them being busy. Only one person was on waiting room. Maybe because only one guy works on front. They want appointment only. How long does a lyft inspection takes? 10 min or less and they want me wait 2 hr for that. Always had problems at this Pep Boys location with the Services. The mechanics will take advantage of you $$$$, if you dont know anything about your vehicle. If you have 4 hours to kill for a proper oil change, go there. They will keep you waiting around while they look for any little problems in your vehicle, when you just want a simple oil change. Last two time I went there, they overfill the oil in my vehicle (overfilling the oil can damage or destroy the engine). And both times I had to argue with the mechanics how to read the oil stick (the oil stick never lies!!!), the oil should never be above the line or above the F. Plus I wanted a tire rotation, but no they took all the brakes apart and didnt do a tire rotation at all. One more thing, the outside of the store should be cleaned, and the trash cans should be emptied out. I heard the Pep Boys in Torrance is better...

Picked up a replacement battery for a family member...paid the $18 core charge (taxable) because I didnt have the old battery with me to swap. Returned old battery and got back the core charge only, no tax. Was given some lame excuse about that being a California thing. I took my Ford Expedition to this Pep Boys at 10 am on a Sunday morning after being told that they would start working on in in an hour and a half (after calling me first). After 3 hours, I called them and they said that there were only 3 cars ahead of me and would start working on it soon. After 6 and a half hours, I WALKED back to Pep Boys and my truck was still sitting in the parking lot without being touched! As they close at 6 pm on Sunday, I knew that they wouldnt be able to fix my car that evening and took my truck back. I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Went for a simple brake pad replacement and was told that my rotors were trashed and my calipers were siezed. Took the car elsewhere and the only issue was the brake pads as i originally informed them. Your mechanics are jokes they quote damage without taking the vehicle apart.

12/21/13I can not give them a star. Well...Im being made to give them a starLast Saturday, I brought my car in for an oil change, a change of windshield wipers, and a new headlight.Apparently they rotated my tires too. I didnt know they did this.With all of the hustling at the end, adding air to my tires and what not...I was feeling impressed.Not by the time I made it to the traffic light on Artesia and Aviation. I was too hungry to turn around and said to myself I will come back...i just have to have something to eat.While depressing my clutch and applying my brakes...something was squeaking and creaking very loudly in my back end. it sounds like it is either rotating or torquing. A week later, I still have the problem.I took it to a mechanic friend, he took the back wheels off, checked for wear and tear, looked in the trunk area...did the same. He was baffled!I returned the following morning...explained what I was hearing and that I needed to be helped first thing. I didnt get the service persons name...a tall latino, a big guy, asked me what the problem was. after hearing my description he mentioned my rotors. I said I had had my brakes done fairly recently. He asked if my mechanic machined them. Yes, he always does them correctly. I later come to find out that the rotors are only on the front wheels. And so that would have been impossible anyway.He asked me if I wanted my tires rotated back. I said yes.Of course that wouldnt have fixed anything...that was not the problem.There wasnt any offer of getting to the bottom of the problem and taking ownership of it.I can not believe that my car was in very good running condition upon coming in (no noises, no problems, drives very well) and I drive away with a problem.What happened here???Needless to say, I will never return. I posted this on FB and I can see Im not alone. Not a very good history Pep Boys on Artesia.

Truly terrible service. I went there to replace my battery. It took over four hours. The worst part came later. The battery turned out to be bad. It took over 20 hours and 4 visits to get battery replaced. The service was plain awful. People were rude. It took over 20 minutes to get anyones attention. Will never go back.

I stopped by Pep Boys just minutes after they had closed one night with the hope that someone would still be able to help me change a break/blinker light. In my previous attempt to change the light, the old light broke off and was stuck inside (not sure if I am explaining this well, but lets just say I was in a pickle and without hope). As soon as I pulled up to Pep Boys, a very kind man came up and he was very persistent in helping us solve the problem. Ten minutes later and without any charge, the old light was out and the new one was in! I plan to call the store to let them know what a blessing this man was that night. It speaks volumes that they are so willing to help. I plan to go back in the future for any and all purchases with my car. Thank you Pep Boys! :)
