11/10Highly highly recommend it!We went as a couple and were seated super quickly at the bar as they only take reservations for larger groups (book weeks ahead). The wait time was said to be an hour but we ended up getting seated after about 19 minutes which we used for a beautiful stroll around their grounds, past peacocks 🦚 etc.We had the sirloin steak with the regular sides of the most amazing loaded potato I have ever had and a salad. I’ll be dreaming of this dinner for a while and can’t wait to come back.Might be my new favourite place around LA

This place is heavy on the atmosphere. It does the old Western theme without being cheesy, while serving some delicious meals. The bacon is unlike anything I’ve had! When you order the Cesar salad to go, make sure you order the bacon and chicken to go with it. It comes deconstructed so you can build it yourself and the croutons are massive. Love this place!

Amazing place for food and drinks! When ordering, keep in mind that the portions tend to be really big! Enjoy your food at one of the outside tables and make sure to get some wine from the main building as well!Old Place also seems to be a gathering spot for car enthusiasts - you will surely find some amazingly preserved classic cars drive by and park inside.This is an amazing place to relax with friends over some good food and some drinks after a day of hiking and exploring the Santa Monica mountains. In its neighborhood you will also find several wineries!

Great place in the neighborhood. Dont expect culinary craziness, as this is more of honest good food by honest, good people.The pricing at the moment is good as the portions are giant (I joked if they source their potatoes off jack/beanstalk)I wish the seating situation was better for 2-3people groups. The bar seats are NOT comfortable.Side note, you can just order your food to go and just sit in one of the multitude of seating choices available outside2nd side note - the wine tasting area next to it is an excellent idea for a 2nd/3rd date

Open and in business since 1970 and tucked away deep in the Agoura Hills, The Old Place is a truly unique dining experience for Los Angeles and it really feels like you are eating in a different county and time.When you pull up, it looks like a series of old western buildings, but also cozy enough and that you immediately want to check it out. Parking in the area is kind of tricky but if there aren’t any spaces available in the parking lot behind the restaurant, it’s easy to park in the neighborhood directly next to the restaurant. You will have to walk a block at most. There was a bit of confusion when I booked reservations for dinner. We have been for lunch before where they served steak sandwiches and you have to eat outside, but I wanted to stop in again for indoor dining. I didn’t realize when I booked the reservation that you need to be a party of three or more to reserve a table. When I arrived, they told me this, but it was not a problem being that the bar is quite large and many others were eating at it as well. We were a party of two and could comfortably fit and ate our whole meal at the bar.They have a fairly limited menu but a ton of hearty classics that will really fill your belly. They obviously have a very large drink menu as well so whatever you are in the mood for you, you’ll be able to find here. For our meal, we started off with one of the specials of the day, which was the Fried Pickles. To our surprise they were whole pickles and breaded just like fish and chips, so it really was a pleasant surprise. For our entrées, we chose the Bone-In Filet Mignon 16 ounce and the Chicken Pot Pie. The filet was cooked perfectly and seasoned well and I truly enjoyed it. There is such a little fat on the filet that you can pretty much eat the entire thing which is my favorite part. The baked potato that they serve with it is gigantic and honestly delicious. It was lacking sour cream, otherwise it was perfect. The Chicken Pot Pie was also a unique take on the classic dish and the puff pastry was crispy and delicious just like I hoped.Overall, this is a really fun place to have lunch or dinner and the drive out is a big part of the charm. It’s really nice to get out of the city and The Old Place is a great destination to mix up your dining locations. I would recommend to anyone for any occasion.

This is an eclectic spot with the out lying buildings for a romantic spot for 2 with a bottle of wine or a group on the patio for lunch and a beer. The food was fantastic, once the order was placed it was ready in under 10 minutes. If you are a light eater you can share a meal. It is a bit confusing to find your way around but the staff is very friendly and eager to help.We will definitely return.

I came really close to writing an essay on how wonderful my meal was here.No.I wont do it. A person could write poems, songs, and screenplays about this place.I wont do it. Just go. Go and get the steak. I had the ribeye cooked medium rare. It was wonderful. The baked potato was glorious. The salad was spectacular.Just go. Its like Disneyland for your tastebuds.

I love everything about this place. The vibes are awesome, food portions are huge and the dishes are tasty. You can also see tons of cool cars and motorcycles that pull up here.Our favorites are the steak burrito, BLT and cinnamon buns. Don’t ever forget a side of their famous bacon. Add a Manmosa if you’re not the one driving.I’d recommend getting here before 11am on a weekend for brunch to avoid the line. This is a must go out of your way anytime you’re in the LA area.

We sat outside where we had to go around the building to place an order. The inside was still closed. They had no waiters or servers of any kind outside. We had to order ourselves by going around the building to place an order at the window, we were giving a pager to pick up the food when it was ready. We also had to walk around the building to get water from a water fountain. At our surprise when we paid the bill, they had automatically added 18% tip! Normally, we have no problem giving a good tip for good service. However, they provided zero service and therefore, don’t deserve a tip! My friend ordered a BLT, it came with some kind of fatty pork meat, it was not bacon. When we asked them why they added a tip since they provided no service, they basically said that that’s how they do things and were not friendly at all! We’ll never go here again and would never recommend this place! The food sucks, no service, and very unfriendly restaurant!

I went to the Old Place for the first time with three friends at the beginning of June…and then immediately took my family a week later, it was that good. The Old Place has a short menu and does everything on it really, *really* well.I ordered the steak and eggs with potato wedges, and had leftovers for *two* more meals. The portion sizes are immense.After you eat (or while you’re waiting for your food and someone saves your table for you 😊), take twenty minutes and explore the grounds! There’s an excellent on-site shop with a little bit of everything local, peacocks are waiting to be found, and there are so many art installations scattered throughout the property!If possible, get there between 10:00-11:30 am before the parking lot fills up.

One of our favorite special dinner out. Beautiful ambiance - live music and incredible wood fire food. The music can be fairly loud sitting inside. We love coming for dinner or brunch. Tried the mushroom was great paired with a steak and the chicken pot pie was everyone favorite.

I love this place. Food is... well I would say imagine the best food from the best cookout/ pot luck when all the best home cooks step up their game. Everything about this place feels like a great cookout with a bunch of friends (except when you pay your check). Steaks are great, bacon... oh man... and chicken pot pie is fantastic. My kids loved their cheese pasta (that and their bread were the only thing I thought was just okay- nothing bad- just okay). I always had great service. Get here a bit early, walk around the creek right next to it (if not dries out) and play with peacocks.

As a resident of LA for the past decade, I can confidently say that this restaurant has become my top favorite. The staff are welcoming and the food is outstanding. I highly recommend it, regardless of how long you may have to wait for a table. It is a true iconic spot and well worth a visit to share with friends and family. Bonus, the phone signal is poor inside, perfect to disconnect and enjoy the moment. Its truly the best of the best, I give it a 5-star rating.

Very cute atmosphere and setting. My side salad was halfway filled WITH the big dressing container in the salad so for it not to be filled more is quite annoying especially after tipping and we dont even get a real server. Got water cups with no ice. Hopefully when they open up with better service it could be a better experience. Food was still good for being pricey takeout.

I’m in awe. So glad we found this on a late Saturday evening. Felt like a dream.Amazing fresh food. We were there on a business trip from Toronto and the owner really made us feel at home. We got to sit at the bar and interact with the locals. This was the highlight of our trip. Outside is serene and peaceful, between mountains.

Steak and eggs was fantastic. Steak was smoky and had a more country, spicier seasoning. Eggs were fresh and cooked to sunny side up perfection. They paired well with the hardy portions of potatoes. Atmosphere was fantastic.Side salad was a large takeout size. Mostly the salad lettuce green medley with a bit of cherry tomatoes and cucumber. The honey mustardy dressing was tasty tho.Parking was fine and could be found in the back.

A feeling of the old west. Stop by as you drive around the Santa Monica Mountains. Great spot to stop at for brunch, lunch or dinner which is outdoor seating.At the weekend you can get served at their small saloon style indoor restaurant - seating at the bar requires no reservations. If you’d like a table they have 2 seating times 5pm and 7pm and you need to make reservations.Next to them is a small coffee shop, and a wine tasting shop which also sells gifts. Enjoy some good wine and food and you can also enjoy people watching seeing cool sports cars here as people love to drive the mountain roads.

I have been coming here every couple of months since 2013. I stuck with them thru pandemic and their deserved rise in popularity. Food is good but the atmosphere makes it excellent.Is it overpriced? Absolutely and mandatory tip is a joke but then again my free choice to go there. Today unfortunately service was subpar and when my issue was raised with management it was borderline rude. So suddenly a mandatory gratuity felt a rip off. As i said we are getting old together and they made me feel sad today. And of course i tipped them 18% for their service (or lack of). Maybe next time it’ll be all forgotten. Maybe they should reconsider their new waiter. The blonde lady i have been seeing there since 2013… i dunno, maybe she had a bad day but i was surprised she was not helpful.

Cool spot. Good food with good portions. They could be a little more lax with their seating though. The barmaid said we couldnt sit at a table when EVERY table was open. The have a weird reservation process that has peoples names tagged on the table its reserved for. We walked in at 4:25 and the tables were marked as a 6:30 reservation. Seriously! We cant sit at a table. Just because its reserved 2.5 hours from now! Besides that it was a very nice place that felt like an old western saloon.

We have visited The Old Place for both inside and outside menus. The food was excellent for both services. However, I must probably give more stars if I could for the outside service. Yes, you have to usually wait in line to place your order. However, the vibe is awesome to be able to eat outside. They have numerous areas spread out across their property and you can easily find an area to eat.Inside, we tried the Cheese & Cured Meat Board, the Ribeye, and the Chicken Pot Pie. There wasnt any food left on anyones plate! Outside, we had the Old Place Burrito and the Steak Sandwich and they were both excellent. Theres a little separate cafe where you can buy drinks, lattes, espresso, coffee, etc. I also tried the Manmosa (man-sized mimosa) and that was great as well!Finally, there are numerous wild peacocks on the property. Take a stroll while youre waiting for your food or to walk off the meal you just ate.We definitely recommend this place!

First, you need to make reservations weeks in advance. It is small and always packed. No walk ins available from what I saw. They may have space available at the bar, but to get a both you have to plan ahead.Atmosphere: Unique atmosphere and story of how it came to be, good for a one time novelty visit. The exterior and interior are straight out of an old western (picture a saloon or general store) with wood everything, big tables, and rickety booths. Theyre uncomfortable to sit in and the lighting is terrible (wish theyre turn off the obnoxious overhead lights and go for dimmer table lights instead). The old, eclectic, mismatched plates add a cozy, homey feel.Food:Appetizers: the appetizers were tasty and big enough to share easily. My family shared the mac n cheese, and chowder (I think). Everything came with a thick, baked cheese layer on top which I loved but if you dont like cheese, be careful. The menu is very small and limited so there were no appetizers for my husband (picky eater) and very little for me (gluten free). I had the mushrooms which were pretty good (because of the cheese layer) but I wish Id saved the space for my entree. Try not to fill up before your main course because it will be gigantic and youll need the space to get through it.Entrees: I had the beef stew which was gluten free and a staple of their menu. The veggies were cut small and the beef was tender and delicious. The bowl was gigantic but somehow I ate the entire thing (youll be impressed if you order one and see the size). It was flavorful, comforting, and very filling. I highly recommend the stew. My family ordered a pot pie and sirloin steaks which were also huge and delicious according to them. The steaks were too marbled and undercooked for my taste since I only like well/medium well lean cuts and cant stand chewing fat, so I opted not to try any.Apparently everyone raves about the baked potatoes so I ordered one of those as well because I usually love them. I absolutely hated the loaded potato here though. They make their own sour cream using vinegar but it overpowered everything else and and ruined the flavor for me. Our server was shocked I wasnt into it and said maybe one person in a thousand doesnt like it. According to her, everyone else goes crazy for the mystery flavor (vinegar) which I honestly cant believe. It was horrible. Soupy and tangy and completely unlike any baked potato I have had or would want. Id never order one again. They are huge though, and I guess if you like vinegar on everything youll probably like these.Dessert: For dessert, my family tried the lava cake which was more chocolate soup than cake. When we mentioned the odd consistency of the lava cake, our server told us that we shouldve ordered the chocolate chip cookie instead but didnt say anything earlier because we didnt ask. They dont have ice cream because there is no freezer, which is a bummer. There were also no non-wheat / gluten free desserts.Service: our server was funny, sarcastic, personable, and pretty quick. When asked, she gave us good recommendations but I wish shed taken the initiative to warn us about the polarizing quirks not mentioned on the menu (the vinegar in the baked potato and the soupy lava cake) because we wouldve changed our order and enjoyed our food more.Over all Im glad we came and it was a fun experience but I dont feel the need to go back.

First of all, such a beautiful drive to get to this place. The service was wonderful and the gentleman who greets you is so friendly. As for the food.... that ribeye is so delicious. The cook was perfect and it seemed like it just melted in my mouth. Came with a baked potato that was well seasoned and fully loaded. Will be back. Impossible to stay away from that steak. Beautiful scenery outside too.

Tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains is a a modern frontier town. Old Place, a Winery & Nursery. It was nighttime when coming to eat at Old Place & I was just in awe of the charm of this rustic little place. We chose this place because of the reviews but, after our own experience, I know now what everyone is raving about. Firstly the sourdough is amazing! We toasted over a bottle of Malbec and some live music at our table!! Truly a treat! You must try the clams & the giant bone-in ribeye did not disappoint- the portions dont either! Whatever the cheese on top of the mushrooms left me thinking about it for days, lol. All in all, a great night, great food and pretty good service!!

We have been coming here for years. It’s an easy drive up the PCH and aside from the beautiful drive that you must endure there is a reward worth every hard hour of work you did to shell out your hard earn dollars for a dinner experience worthy of it all. The staff is amazing, charming and the service warm and friendly. The ribeye 🥩 is the plan, cooked to perfection and seasoned with expertise. The loaded baked potato 🥔 calls you to eat it before anything, pace yourself. The meat and cheese board needs your attention as well as the baked mushrooms in a cast iron skillet. Came here for a late Sunday breakfast after exploring Paramount Ranch. We each got a burrito (mine was mushroom, my husband has steak), plus an order of cinnamon rolls, an iced tea, hot tea, and coffee. The portions were large and the food quality was great. The Old Place has been one of my favorite restaurants for the last 5 years. The food is incredible and the location is beautiful. All wood look and feel, Winery, coffee shop, best steak and eggs or steak burrito you will have in your life. For years we went every Sunday and never disappointed. I would like to see them opening their doors again to seat inside though. The decoration is very original and I would like to be able to enjoy again our private mail room.Dont leave this place without tasting their massive cinnamon roll!

The most amazing experience here last night, the staff are a delight, Atmosphere is amazing, and the food, oh my gosh. Please never change your food, it was just perfection. Check the photo. Really loved the two ladies who were singing at the tables too. Does anyone know their names? I forgot to ask for business card. As a regular here I love the Old Places amazing atmosphere but prices have gone up the roof and are decorelated to reality!Over $30 for an average pulled chicken sandwich, including a 18% mandatory service charge even if zero service is provided- you have to pickup your food at the window and throw your trash away 🤣Even for a staple, milking clients wont pay on the long run 😘

We sat in the private room called The Mailroom which was lovely, intimate and the perfect setting for our dinner. We were allowed to bring in our own decor to add to the specialness of the space - but word of advice - if you plan to bring in decor and that includes candles, make sure you use LED because you cannot use real candles that are lot.Brooke was our server and she was lovely - all the staff was lovely and very accommodating. We own a local bike touring company and the Old Place Restaurant is always a hit with us and our guests. For parts of 8 or more there is a special room called the Mail Room that you can reserve (well in advance). Its the former Post Office for the town of Cornell and its very cozy with more than 8 to be honest but worth it for the charm of it. The food is always amazing with an emphasis on locally-sourced, organic ingredients so the menu is ever-changing and special. Its super small and they are pretty strict about reservations when theyre busy, which is busy since theyre only open for dinner four nights a week and for brunch/lunch on the weekends. They do have a waitlist and the fantastic Cornell Winery and Tasting Room is right next door to make your wait nice and comfortable.

One of the worst things about moving away from LA was that I can’t go to Old Place. Been here countless times for birthday brunches or just a lovely weekend afternoon meal, and everything is incredible, as is the atmosphere. Noodle bake, best grilled cheese on earth, insanely thick bacon, manmosa, amazing skillet desserts. Breaks my heart that I never made it there for dinner and that they now have break burritos and I’m 3000 miles away! *sigh* Top of my list if/when I visit LA sometime! Their new outdoor set up looks awesome.

Western movie set and steak.Wow. This was an incredible find. We walked in and the place is all wooden. Very friendly staff. We had steak because its a cowboy place and it felt right. The restaurant is off the beaten path but well worth the trip. We highly recommend it.I hope this helps someone out there.

Pretty sure they only like the regular customers. I was looking at another review;the guy had the same experience as I did. I feel that me getting a sit is a big favor from them. I cant believe I had to ask when I was standing there for 5 mins because they just ignored us. Also, me and my friend couldnt even get a nice place to sit. Food are average. One thing I have to mention is that we ordered two glasses of organs juice without asking the price. The juice are $5 for 1 L at Ralphs. Two glasses of orange juice were total of $12. I would be cool if they were freshly made, but they were cheap concentrated ones.

It is five stars and then some. I have been eating there since the early 70’s. This place”The Old Place”was here before modern media. Don’t listen to any bad reviews! If you want the best steak this is the place. As a kid I loved to go to the back where the owner would sit and cook the meat over an open flame while throwing chunks of oak into the fire he explained to me why. Personally I never cook a steak without using oak. It is the best way.

I kind of hate to review this, preferring instead to keep this place off your radar. It is a gem on the mountains and well worth the drive to find it. Reservations are required for parties of 4 or more and walk ins of 2 people are welcome, but be ready for a wait of an hour or so as it is that busy and it is that small. You want to show up, get your name on the list and then go next door to the winery. Lots of choices, tastings, glasses, knick knacks, and your hostess will come get you when your seats are ready. Women, refrain from a tight skirt unless you have a reservation for a table because you will have to swing your legs over the huge bench at the bar. Trust me, youll be fine and will leave there happy, full, and probably with a doggie bag for later :) The ride up and down the hills to get there are a favorite for motorcycles - myself included so keep an eye out for us please. Dont forget to find one of the peacocks walking around the property - theyre beautiful and theyll eat peanuts out of your hand, so treat them kindly...If you dont believe me, definitely check out their website and read it - and read it again. The food is fantastic. They do serve alcohol and the food portions are large. They have a decent menu covering a variety of palates and they also serve some exotics, like venison, bison, others and it depends on what is available that night..Enjoy your dinner and the bottle of wine you probably bought next door.

We just had our 20th company Christmas party, and this is the best place weve ever been. Food was outstanding, ambiance was very warm and cozy, decor was authentic, and service was excellent. Christy, the manager, took outstanding care of us. All of the food was amazing, but particularly the steaks, the noodle kugel, and the meat and cheese platter. Actually, on second thought, absolutely everything was amazing. This is an old western saloon and the whole experience was wonderful.

This is a quaint old and lively cabin converted into a small restaurant. While the quarters are small, the food portions and taste are anything but. I highly recommend the Sirloin butterfly cut, and youll have to check out seasonal menu items too, like the Strawberry BBQ Salmon or the Spinach and Crab dip. Just delicious!!

Nestled in a special corner off Cornell.A prime Sunday cruising spot to stop and refresh after a winding canyon run up in the Santa Monica mountain range.In addition to that, the food is something special.I like to go for breakfast. This man can really play and sing! He will also play requests right at your both if you ask. The design of the restaurant makes the acoustics very unique.The decor is rustic and lodge like. Set on beautiful Mulholland Hwy in the Santa Monica Mountains the location looks like something from an old western movie. The bare wooden buildings and rustic surroundings look like a scene from the 1800s. The interior is a low ceilinged all weathered wooden slice of history and charm. Sit at the bar and meet some new locals or possibly visitors from the winery next door. Make reservations for one of the cozy booths. Now comes the best part, the food. If you like beef or chicken and dont shy away from dessert then bring an appetite and get a to go box or share with a friend. The chef does a fantastic job and the dishes are absolutely delicious.

In my mind this is one of the most welcome Bargains in Los Angeles if you happen to like a good steak. The meat is cooked to order, their sourdough bread is terrific and they have a nice alternative to the giant baked potato and either more salad, which is quite good, or grilled vegetables. There is a lot of food here so you may not want to order any of the appetizers, even though they are tasty Ill be at a little overpriced by comparison to the Great Value on the steaks

Its hard to place a finger on what exactly Old Place is doing wrong. For starters, a $20 salad better have a phenomenal dressing, especially if an establishment only serves one dressing, period. And they do, and its not, unless you like the taste of liquid gummy bears mixed with pepper.Also, on a quick ambiance note: youre charging $40 on entrees, you can afford to have the AC on when its 100 degrees outside. I shouldnt be as wet as the bowl of clams Im slurping down.Lastly, have a burger option. A super limited menu with these price points really makes you feel like a chump, paying more for the novelty feel (which feels like Loggers Cabin at 6 Flags).

Old Place Restaurant was like a small Western restaurant with some Southern charm.Meals will beanywhere from about $10 for appetizers to about $10-$40 for the entrees. They have a few local selection of beer (and a wider selection of bottled beer) and a great selection of wines.There are a lot of food items like daily specials to fish to steaks and so on. We had several appetizers like mac-n-cheese, a mushroom platter and a lobster tail. My favorite had to be the pasta - a nice texture about it and the cheese was flavorful. Entree-wise, I ordered steak which was of a good size along with a salad and a loaded potato.Their service was great too - very hospitable.Old Place Restaurant is a very cool little restaurant out there.

One entree was given to another table, and we were left waiting on our deserts for what seemed like forever. I am the friend of ziwen and went with him to eat there. Staff treated us poorly and like he and other people said, we were ignored and had to ask them for a table. They gave us the bar seat which had a long plank as a seat. I had to step over it to sit down. Food is alright but the “organic” orange juice just did not taste like the price. Bathroom was in a different place as well. Also if you look at the older reviews, you can see the owner being very rude to previous reviewers. Shows me how highly they think of themselves.

After driving 5 hours I crashed in the 2 stars hotel in Thousand Oaks and then I found this place on google maps while trying to find a nice restaurant around. I lured after the photos listed. Were Twin Peaks nerds and first learned of this place when looking for TP locations, as its the exterior of the Bookhouse! The ambience of the restaurant alone is enough to command 5 stars as its THAT unique! They book at least three weeks in advance, which is impossible for us to schedule with a toddler at home, however, we finally lucked out as I called the day before my wifes birthday and they had a lunchtime cancelation!Ive been told that Dinner is the crown gem for The Old Place, so I cant speak to that, but we enjoyed our food for sure. I was a bit let down by the bacon, which are huge bacon steaks that we were sold as being the best thing ever... but mine was SUPER fatty to the point of making me lose my appetite a bit... But everything else was amazing! I almost marked it down to a 4, but the ambience keeps it at a 5. Its definitely an awesome place to take a date or go with friends! The staff is super friendly!While not owned by the same owners, you cant visit The Old Place without at least one visit (we went before AND after our meals) to The Cornell Winery just next door. While the Old Place is a nice find... The Cornell Winery is the best kept secret in Los Angeles and is the most reliable wine store youre find. Ive discovered several wines here that are now my all time favorite!

Old Place is truly a special place. It’s tucked away a good hour drive from LA, so it is a nice getaway from the city. We made it a day-cation by hiking Los Liones/Parker Mesa Overlook first and then heading to Old Place for some grub! We had the biscuits and gravy as an appetizer. The biscuits were fluffy and the gravy was flavorful. For my entree I got the steak sandwich which was so good. It had a blue cheese mayo that was really great. And the bread was perfectly toasted. It comes with one side. I chose the noodle bake which is like MAC n cheese and it was also yummy. I tasted my friend’s pulled chicken sandwich which had a rosemary flavor and was tender and juicy. I also tasted her creamed corn which isn’t quite like traditional creamed corn but tastes even better. We washed our meals down with the 16 oz. Manmosa (or Womanmosa as we called it). Bonus: Burt plays guitar and does some great covers of popular songs. We had a great time and will definitely be back.Also, before or after you eat, you should go next door to the wine store and have a look around or enjoy a $15 wine tasting. They also offer meat and cheese plates as well.
