Weve been coming here for years! Its always a great place to ride quads or side by sides. Theres always places to explore here like the pumpkin patch, shell reef and the fish wash, to name a few. Yes the rangers here can be hard on you but as long as you have your OHVs up to date on registration, have a whip on each of your OHVs and ride with your helmet on at all times, you should be fine.

Side by side heaven lots of tight turning canyons but lots of fun for four wheeler three wheelers motorcycles and just family fun so bring the kids and the toys and get dirty and if you dont have any they rent t b em also

One of my favorite places to ride dirtbikes and four wheel Drive. Close to town plenty of trails great choice for off road. Close Burrago Springs, Great riding trails, Some Sand Dunes. A few campgrounds close by with Services. Or you can go off grid set up and ride. There are bathrooms and dumpsters for trash.

My family spends a lot of time enjoying this park. The rangers offer very cool learning experiences for the kids, and the variety of terrain keeps all of us smiling whether we’re in Jeeps or on bikes.

It’s like the surface of the moon. Huge ugly area. Gross to look at. The few times I’ve been there people have been either completely absent, or it’s been busy but polite.Some sand hills. They occasionally grade the roads, some are in drivable washboarded, some are smoother than the highway. It’s so big, it might take you a good amount of time on the main roads to get where you’re going, so good roads mean something . Not tons to do. Hills. Banks. You’re not going anywhere. It’s the surface of the moon. But it’s legal and it’s free with lots of pit toilets.Ya don’t expect parts of the country that are worth seeing to let people drive all over the landscape. They ought to expand this park to all of the south west.It is the ugliest scenery I’ve ever seen. Ever see the photos from Venus’s surface? Worse than that. Looks like a strip mine. By May it’s 100 degrees. 115+ later in the year. No cell phone coverage.

One of our favorite spots to go camping and offroading! Ive camped everywhere from the blow sand side to pole line road. There is so much to explore and great for any skill level. When we ride our dirtbikes I can easily follow along the steeper trails with some trails down below if Im being a scaredy cat. I brought my 4runner out for the first time last week and it was so much fun! It was perfect in the 100 degree heat cruising in ac haha I also always try to go out there on a weekday. There is literally no one out there, you are alone in the desert. But I feel safer than trying to ride my dirtbike on hills and with blind corners when everyone has a side by side these days. Also, make sure you check how windy it will be before coming here, Ocotillo in the wind is intense!!

A great place to off road any vehicle and for us, we love dirt-biking here. You can visit Pumpkin Patch and check out all the rocks that form a pumpkin patch. Pole Line Road is my favorite road to bike on. It goes on for miles!

This is a great off road park for learning how to ride in Desert conditions. I only ride a Enduro motorcycle here but there’s a lot of quads so you need to be careful on the weekends or traffic but in the week day early anybody’s here. It’s a great escape on the weekdays to get away from any crowds

My family of 3 rented quads for 4 hours in December. It was a little chilly in the morning hours but we nearly had the place to ourselves. We explored and had the best time of our lives! Four hours wasnt nearly enough so I recommend devoting more time to explore the AMAZING landscape.

As long as its not summer, the SVRA is an amazing place to off-road and camp. There are sites, but I hear they get occupied pretty quickly and we prefer dispersed camping anyway. My kid loves the Pumpkin Patch too! High clearance vehicle or 4x4 recommended for some of the trails.

The place was really clean and well kept. During the day a grader cleaned up the main road, however, as cool as this sounds, was not a good thing for getting out of the place. The sand was so soft in those places that it was difficult to get out pulling a trailer. The road looked perfect though.

This place is my jam for sure! Wide open desert and great riding. Of course this can be some wild land but take precautions and you will have a blast. Dirtbikes or 4x4s, there is plenty to do here. Maps are available and free. People we have spoke to are friendly and always seem to have lot in common with us. Oh, definitely stop by the Blu Inn for a burger and fry with milkshake! I hope you love and respect this place as much as I do

An amazing place to ride at, it was a little windy but overral really fun. I loved how they had showers and bathrooms that were both really clean. They have different sites to go to, me and my family went to the pumpkin patch, shell reef and the devil slide which we all thought were pretty cool to go to.

This place is a ton of fun! So many places to ride and camp. It starts to get busy Friday night thru the weekend. Weekdays are pretty light. Holiday weekends are also super busy. It can be pretty hot up until early November.A lot of the area is also safe for novice riders while still offering some challenges if you want them. It can be easy to get lost so always carry a map or GPS. Hills seem closer than they really are and I found that I could easily end up much further away from camp without realizing it.- Clean toilets and showers (Not free)- No water or electricity hookups (except at RV park near by)- No gas (30 miles away)- No light pollution so stargazing is amazing.- Cell service is spotty once you leave the road.

Well hey guys. Im open about my failures first. I had never taken my bike here or any as I thought the money was in the single track for my son and I. Or the motocross track. I was so so wrong. This is heaven!! We can all just burn into freedom freedom. Anyway we went. Not at all the tech of the mountains. Yet a different understanding of how sand can turn into a Boulder in a moment. Its a different lesson. And riding is learning. We get bored we get hurt. I suggest any who have a tire that can do sand ..go. Im so sad Ive been daft to this

All I can say is whats not to enjoy about the desert. in particular the off-road park. The park rangers as well as CHP and police are just doing their job but can be a bit of a nuisance. Aside from a few Reckless people everybody is pretty much friendly and willing to help in any situation. Just be sure you bring your paperwork for your off-road vehicle and your drivers license is on your person read all of the crazy rules and take the time to try and understand them because they can be confusing and Im sure if youre not falling what exactly they will let you know immediately LOL seriously have fun we didnt been going out here almost 40 years

Ocotillo Wells will always hold a fond place in my heart. The Ocotillo Cactuss are a beautiful too when they sprout their flowers. Have a tattoo of the Ocotillo cactus on my arm now... I cannot speak highly enough about this place. TONS of space to camp, chill, offroad and relax. I spent all weekend here visiting my cousin from California. Im use to having lots of free offroad areas in Arizona where I live, but this was a surprise to find in Cali. The restroom facilities and showers are to die for!! So clean and nice. Showers are the best... 50 cents for 2 min of piping hot water to get off the dust from the night before (make sure you bring QUARTERS ONLY). All in all this is a superb place to experience the outdoors in the beautiful desert. LEAVE NO TRACE!

We all had a blast at the Scorpion Safari in August 2018. The Rangers are very helpful and took their time explaining all the other wildlife that were out at night. There was a big group of us which formed a caravan of about 20 vehicles that lead us through the desert at night. Although we purchased our own UV Flash lights, The Rangers had some to loan out as well. A Very fun evening with some close friends!

(Edited 12/16/19)I want to point out a common courtesy for us off-roaders in Ocotillo. First of all, there can be tons of traffic out there on the trails on any given weekend. This common courtesy is a hand signal for your fellow oncoming off-roader. This hand gesture tells the oncoming rider/driver HOW MANY VEHICLES that are BEHIND you.Holding up a closed fist means no one is behind you. You are the last rider in your group.Holding up 1 finger means there is ONE vehicle behind you.Holding up 2 fingers means there are TWO vehicles behind you.Holding up 3 fingers means there are THREE vehicles behind you.Holding up 4 fingers means there are FOUR vehicles behind you.Holding up 5 fingers means there are FIVE OR MORE vehicles behind you.When I put up 2 fingers, I am not giving you the peace sign. It means I have 2 vehicles behind me. I want to point this out because I think it is a very simple and logical hand gesture to keep us all just a wee bit safer out there.My parents bought an off road house near Ocotillo Wells SVRA and I literally ride no where else. This is Californias best kept off road secret. This place is MASSIVE and you can ride all day long and not see the same trail twice, except when you need to get back home. Even though the place is massive, it is difficult to get lost thanks to Pole Line road. Just look for the telephone poles and you should be OK. I ride a 2004 KTM MXC 525 and it loves the place...so does the rider. :-)

Most bathrooms are only open on the weekends due to covid and the park being short staffed. The bathrooms were clean but ran out of toilet paper do be sure to bring your own. Also the showers were not open at all.
