This shelter is phenomenal! They take such great care of these animals. I adopted my little best friend from here a year ago and couldn’t be happier. I’m sad to see low ratings simply because entitled people are surprised they need an appointment. Please support this shelter if you’re looking to adopt!

I want to share my experience at the OC Animal Care Center, which was amazing. First, they had hundreds of pets for us to visit and play with before we decided. I think there are many people who are indeed like us, it is hard to decide which one you really want to adopt before you actually see them. We went to another shelter and after waiting and filling out all the forms, we were not able to see any animals because they said that none of them met our or their requirements (a male kitten, suitable for small children, etc.), and if you dont meet the requirements, you cant go in to see the animals. We originally planned to adopt only one because it’s the first time for our family to adopt and my son only liked to have a male kitten. But in the end, we adopted two kittens (a male and a female) because my son changed his mind after seeing the cute kittens, and the staff at the OC animal care helped me relax and make me less nervous about adopting. The whole adoption process took less than an hour, which was incredible based on our last experience.More importantly, we noticed that the kittens we adopted were very easy to get along with. They were not afraid of people and were super friendly. They let us hold them after only one night, and when friends came to our house the next day, the cats would also take the initiative to approach her. I think this is because they were well taken care of before and were mentally healthy. Thank you to all the employees of OC animal care !

A wild duck kept showing up at my work it had fishing line wrapped around both its feet and could hardly walk and couldnt forage for its own food. I called Animal Control when they finally did show up they encouraged me to try and catch the duck which I couldnt. The fishing line was so tight around the ducks feet it was cutting into its skin and they still will not help me with this wild duck. The Ducks health is getting worse and worse. If I did anything to endanger a duck you bet they would be on my case about it but Im trying to help this duck and they seem to not care. I feel very sad about the condition of this duck and the lack of competence by Animal Control in caring for sick wildlife.

We had a good experience. Appointment was required at the time, but we were granted earlier entry prob cuz there was no demand to look at the other animals like cats and dogs.We were able to provide a home for these turtles previously confiscated from a U-Haul.

We are so thankful to have adopted this 86 pound sweet dog from the OC Shelter in Tustin! We named him Moose (Bernard was his adoption name, but Moose fits him better.) After a few months of trial and error (accidents and chewing things up) we are happy to say Moose has developed into a loyal, gentle, potty trained, loving fun puppy that now chews on bones and toys only. He is learning to sit, stay and shake his paw. ♥️ Besides being hilarious, Moose loves our other Dog Dorthy (a Belgian Malinois) to pieces. They are the best of buds. Moose has been to the vet and groomer so now he is super healthy and groomed to look like a cute hunk. :)We really got a great dog!!♥️

This facility serves an incredibly important role and functions to protect pets seized due to abuse or neglect. Volunteer staffed pets get a safe environment and treatment by veterinarians.

Dont take street cats here expecting a free fix then adoption. They WILL EUTHANIZE the animal. Unless if you show money up front, maybe they will reconsider and call you up/ answer your calls. Shelters should be strictly regulated. These people be treating animals like live stock. You know, youd make more money if youd let people adopt.

During the high winds our pet escaped. The staff at OC Animal Care maintain a very up-to-date website that we were able to monitor. As soon as we saw her photo we headed down and pulled up to a beautiful facility with clear signage, allowing us to park and start filling out the few forms to get our girl back. They kept her safe during the storm and cold night, gave her a bath and even treated a minor ear infection at an extremely reasonable cost.It truly felt like reuniting the pet to their family was the highest goal, while treating that pet with tons of love. Also, consider adopting here! While I was waiting there was an adoption event going on. Attendees could walk freely among the dogs and cats that were up for adoption and many families were able to find a new loved one here. The process appeared streamlined and relaxed. If you’re considering a pet, consider adopting!

07.29.23 My first time at OC Animal Care in Tustin and first time to attend an orientation on fostering. Pretty good one hour orientation. I would certainly go back. Staff and volunteers were all helpful. Volunteers were all great because they all seem to enjoy what theyre doing AND theyre helpful to visitors like me. Ive never owned a pet and Im definitely not ready to foster or adopt, but will go back to volunteer. If I was ready to adopt and I have room in my little tiny place, Id certainly take home at least two beautiful German shepherds. Great place to visit and maybe volunteer to walk a dog. Plenty of kitties to choose from, kitties with attitudes, quiet ones, etc.

The staff here are friendly. We came here to adopt an older dog who probably had a harder time getting adopted. We scheduled adoption visits and went to the 2-5pm viewing hours that they had. However, when we adopted the dog, the shelter failed to disclosed to us that the dog had a bite record with the previous owner. The dog seemed friendly and showed no signs of aggression, but as experienced dog owners, we made sure to do our due diligence to understand the dogs needs and comfort level. Three days after adopting the dog, my mom came over to visit. We made her aware of the dog and introduced the dog appropriately outside of our house before going inside. Unfortunately, there was no indication that the dog would decide to charge and bite my moms leg in the backyard. The dog was not provoked in any way and was supervised at all times. We had to learn after the incident, when we called the animal services after-hours line, that the dog had a bite history. That information would have been really good to know and help us decide if we were ready to adopt the dog with the given circumstance. We are fortunate the situation did not escalate, but the bite did puncture through the skin and left marks. It traumatized my mom. We just wish the shelter would have made sure to communicate that to us. Sadly, we had to return the dog.
