Booked consultation online for laser treatment. AT NO POINT was there a fee of $50 mentioned during the 4 steps on their site to make an appt. The confirmation email also made no mention of any fee.When I get to the office, they took my credit card and charged me $50. When I asked them to refund that fee for not alerting me of it up front, they literally said well, there is no statement of a free consultation...Except that... there is. On their website as you can see in the image I uploaded.Q: Do you offer a free consultation?A: Yes! We offer complimentary consultations for all of our cosmetic services and would love to answer any questions you might have!Interesting, when I was walking out of the office there was a woman on the front desks phone arguing with someone about paying only for the fees that were advertised...Clearly, there are unethical things going on.

Very disappointed with NorCal Dermatology. I was just trying to get an ongoing prescription I have for retin A filled. I had 5 refills (was given the prescription when it was Icecreamwala) but was unable to get even a 2nd refill because NorCal wouldn’t approve it with my pharmacy. I was told not only that I had to make an appointment if I wanted a refill but also that they had to outsource that appointment because they didn’t currently have someone on staff who could see me. Had a great experience when it was Icecreamwala but this incarnation is nothing like it used to be. It seems more like a spa than a proper dermatologists office but they are using the reputation of the previous office.

Have been many times for cosmetic procedures, and the actual procedures are great (Hilary is wonderful!) but the scheduling department has mis-booked me several times, and today I came for an acne appointment with a PA only to be seated in a room for 30 minutes and never seen. They need to be more timely with their appointments if they are going to have a no-show rule. If we are meant to be considerate of their time and show up for appointments on time, the same should be true of patients time.

It was a good experience with the staff at Norcal Dermatology. I liked it, however, more when Dr. Icecreamwala was there. Now it doesnt have the same feel or warmth. It feels less friendly.

I slept through the night for the first time in a while just from the peace of mind I felt after my visit with Dr. Icecreamwala! She is the first Dr. that listened to EVERYTHING I said before she gave me her diagnosis! I have a different insurance plan and NONE of their SPECIALIST Dr.s could be bothered to hear me out. Her fee was very reasonable and completely worth it, just for the sleep alone! I am grateful to her & her staff who were kind and professional. I will be changing my insurance carrier.Dr I ROCKS !

After seeing the numerous one star reviews on Yelp, I was initially hesitant to make an appointment, but I am glad I did. It took about two weeks to get an appointment, not months like other places. When I arrived, the gal at the intake desk was very welcoming. Dr.Icecreamwala listened to my concerns and provided me with information as to how I could relieve my skin issue. I will definitely make another appointment should the need arise.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!I had a very bad experience here and hope that this clinic can improve for future patients.I had a small cyst removed and apparently sutures were not inserted correctly, which is causing complications lasting for weeks. While I know there are factors outside of those performing the operation’s control, I would have appreciated at least a bit more care in performing this procedure. The scars and wound from this is much bigger than the original cyst (I was also not warned of this before procedure at all).When I had the sutures removed, one of the receptionists came back and removed them (I was very surprised that this was allowed, rather than having a nurse do this). That receptionist also was quite unprofessional in demeanor and made me feel unwelcome in the space (was watching videos on iPad, didn’t acknowledge presence when I was there at the counter). Overall quite a bad experience.I came because I was referred by my primary care physician here but will be looking for another dermatologist.Update: I was charged over 300 dollars suddenly when the office said that the procedure will be covered by my insurance. The billing statement on my portal also says 0.00 THIS PLACE IS A SCAM DON’T COME HERE

I recently went to Icecreamwala Dermatology and had an overall skin check-up. Coming in my wife and I were greeted very nicely. For a medical office setting it felt a lot more inviting than most.When I got the evaluation and some treatment I actually felt very pleased with Ms. Saleeh and her comments and advice. She was pleasant, informative and reassuring about my concerns. I am looking forward to my 2nd appointment.

Ive been going to NorCal Dermatology for several years (previously under the name Icecreamwala Dermatology) and have always been satisfied by the professionalism and care from everyone in the practice. Most recently, I was seen by Shareefa Saleh who immediately impressed me as an insightful and skilled practitioner. Its also clear that this office works hard to maintain a schedule to minimize waiting. Added to that, the front desk and billing are helpful and parking is generally available in the area. Good on all points.

Dr. Icecreamwalla is knowledgeable, lovely, and gentle. When I needed a biopsy my face, she not only took extra time in an appointment and carefully explain it all to me, she took the skin from an existing scar in such a way that the scar was improved. Her staff is also great. I highly recommend her practice.

The office is amazing!! Gorgeous and everything runs super smoothly. I was very impressed. I had Hillary as my doc when I came in, and she was great at explaining my treatment options and making a plan of care for my skin.It was also very convenient to get RX products from this practice; same day pick-up was easy to arrange! Its only been a couple weeks since I started treatment, and my skin has improved a ton.

I’ve only ever had good experiences with this dermatologist. The office staff are friendly and professional. Dr. Icecreamwala herself is very knowledgeable and always listens to my concerns. My telemedicine visit was also well organized and I felt like I got the same level of care as being in-office.Update: I’ve now seen multiple doctors at this practice and my original review still stands. Everyone who works here seems very personable and knowledgeable. Every visit has been great!

I ended up cancelling my follow up for all that went wrong. Dr. Icecreamwala spent about 4-5 min in the room with me (her medical student was great and did most of the work) and sent 2 prescriptions. One I was able to pick up right away, the other took a month of me going back and forth with the office and my own insurance. I was never able to get the prescription, when I escalated it to the office manager, Dr. Icecreamwala sent a generic antibiotic cream that never worked (she initially prescribed something completely different, not an antibiotic). I had a 2 month follow up scheduled, but cancelled given it took over 1 month just to get a replacement med that didnt work. Plus the 150$+ charge outside of my copay that was charged after the visit made me cancel as well. Only good thing was that facilities were nice and clean, and some of the office staff and medical students were really friendly.

Icecreamwala dermatology took me to collections without ever sending me any bills or making any contact that additionalPayments were needed after insurance payments. I’ve had endless calls to sort this out with them working with their 3rd party billing agency that they use, that has zero answers for me (quoting me different amounts owed every time I speak to them), as well as Nia who works internally for Icecreamwala in finance. After multiple calls and inquiries on my end, they said that in fact my account was on hold (with no explanation why) and no bills are ever sent to me. Here we are 3 weeks later and I still have no bills or indication as to the amount that I owe. I have asked multiple time for them to notify the collections agency that the error is on their end and they have refused simply providing me the 1-888 phone number of the collections agency. I recommend that you run fast in the other direction unless you want to risk working with a company that does not take responsibility for their incorrect actions and offer no resolutions for their customers- who btw paid every bill I was asked to during my in person visits- both cosmetic and medical.

I came in to the office for the yearly routine skin check and to have 1 mole remove that was bothering me. However, the office labeled the visit as a diagnostic visit instead of the yearly skin check, therefore, my insurance billed me for the deductible instead of covering the service 100%. After several phone calls, debates and explanation they refused to make the adjustment in my file arguing that the dr gave me medical advice during the visit.During the visit I chatted with the Dr about my trip to Peru because some of the bug bites from that trip were still visible on my legs. They even used that conversation to argue that the dr gave me medical advise regarding some bug bites. Well, actually, it was just small talk about my trip.I do not recommend coming here unless the service youre seeking is not covered anyway.They were helpful or reasonable at all. Now I have to pay $350 for something that would have been covered had I gone to a different dermatologist.

Dr. Icecreamwala was amazing. She was very patient, understanding and thorough about my treatment options. I really appreciated that she helped me understand why I have been experiencing certain symptoms and how to best avoid them. Her staff are very nice and friendly and were able to work with my work schedule. I loved the office deco, it was calm, beautiful and soothing. If zero stars were possible, I would choose that. I just showed up for the 2nd time in 2 weeks for what was supposed to be a consult w Hillary RN re diff procedures. I had an annual skin care check here 3 weeks ago. Both times of these 2 visits, they scheduled me for skin care check AGAIN despite numerous confirmations of the visit . So not only did they waste 2 hours total driving time for me (30 min each way x 4), they wasted their NPs time and Hillarys time. the receptionists are both incompetent and dont know how to use the scheduling software, nor did they notice oh gee she was just here for that annual appt, therefore it should red flag that I dont get the same appt a week later. rocket science? I think not. this place is a mess of malfunction. never once did I get an apology either. INCOMPETENT staff. find another term.

Do not give these people your money. This business is so shady. I called the day before to ask about pricing for masseter botox (for TMJ) because I was shopping around with other clinics. The provider Hillary called me back saying prices have decreased since last year but wouldnt give me an exact number. One side would be around $350 and for both it would be around $650, but she assured me that it would be cheaper than the $780 I paid last year with her for the same amount of units, which I thought was exorbitant at the time.I remember when I got treatment here a year ago, I had to really advocate for more units for an effective treatment for TMJ. I have had masseter botox before and anything under 30 units is not effective for me. This business charges by area instead of units, and now I know its so that they can make as much profit per unit versus caring about providing you with effective results! So shady.Even though I felt off about the last time I got treatment here, they had the best pricing of all the clinics I looked into, which ended up being a lie. I unfortunately took their word for it and booked the appointment. They set me up with an ice pack, and basically put you into position so that youre more willing to just go ahead and overpay. They didnt even ask me to talk about pricing. I had to bring it up. When I asked to confirm the pricing, Hillary said no, the price actually increased by 10% this year and so I would be paying $850. I said, You told me on the phone that it would be cheaper than what I paid last year, and she said, Oh, that wasnt me on the phone, and that the person at the call center receiving their calls must have been named Hillary, too. Um... okay, Hillary. Even if thats the case, this business should be alarmed that their call representatives are giving false information to their patients and disrespecting returning customers like this. Hillary wasnt disturbed at all when I raised my concern about being lied to, and the nonchalance in her voice was really telling. I was appalled and left without treatment. Even the receptionist didnt seem bothered at all when I told her I was lied to about pricing. Seems like they all know what theyre doing and prey on unwitting customers. Stay away from Icecreamwala Dermatology and find a provider who is transparent about their pricing, and get it in writing before you waste your time going in. This place values profit over patient care and I question the ethics and validity of their whole clinic. Avoid at all costs.

Overall, it was a great experience. I truly appreciate the Saturday appointment, too. 😊 My treatment was a little expensive. It was a cosmetic procedure that was not covered by insurance. Dr. Clemens is the best doctor I have ever met. He listens well and advises me not only on my dermatological issues but also on my overall health and wellness. He replies to my emails and text messages within 30 min or less and is constantly available to take my calls to answer any questions and concerns. I have never met any doctor in my life who made me feel so taken care of. Just like his extremely fast replies, my prescriptions would be sent right after I spoke to him whereas other doctors would forget or take a long time to send them in. If I could give Dr. Clemens more stars, I would. My mom suffers from similar skin conditions as I do and I will definitely bring her in to see Dr. Clemens. Not only is Dr. Clemens extremely attentive, well versed in research articles, and confident in his solutions but he is also conscious of the prices of medications and advised me to not spend too much on medication, giving me a lot of other options to consider. I am grateful and lucky to have found such a dedicated and passionate doctor as Dr. Clemens.

Very well done.Second: Front desk personThis guy deserves an award for how patient and humble he is even when accommodating an extremely entitled customer. The customer just kept going on and on and the front desk guy (Im sorry I dont know your name) just became even more accommodating and even asked the customer if he wanted him to go down to feed his cars meter. He personally showed me the greatest respect and spoke to me, genuinely, showing interest in my responses. Really nice guy and I wish him the absolute best in life.Third: Dr.IcecreamwalaShe was very nice. Even when pulling glass out of my foot with tweezers lol. She was helpful, apologetic that I had to go through the pain. She was patient with me and shared information thoroughly for post care. Even gave my feet a diabetic exam to make sure there were no concerns (which isnt what I came in for) so accommodating.I would highly recommend this office, the staff and the doctor. I maybe saw the doctor for a total of 5 minutes. Very quickly made an assessment and I felt like I was rushed out of there. The treatment didn’t particularly work yet not much happened in our follow up. This may be a thing where if you go get cosmetic treatments you might get treated like an actual human and not an anonymous customer, but I won’t be trying them out even for that to find out. Also, got a $75 no show fee posted to my account that I was only notified of when it was past due over a month later. Cool!

I went for a skin check, the routine screen had a sample of tissue removed, learned after lab it was basal cell (benign skin cancer). Returned to have it removed and all is well. No problem. The Dr did a great job, no pain, no problems, plus, he caught the suspicious spot initially. Thumbs up. Hillary is their cosmetic person, and I see her 2x a year for laser stuff on face to temper spider veins. Shes great. I highly recommend.

As someone who has struggled with their skin for many years and has seen numerous doctors, Dr. Clemens at Icecreamwala Dermatology was the first one to be interested in healing the root cause of my acne and not just the symptoms. He is very direct and takes a wholistic approach to medicine with the goal of improving one’s overall health. I really appreciate that he takes care to learn about the individual patient and also works with insurance. The office itself is very lovely and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

I love it here! I’ve only gone for cosmetic procedures so far (micro needling, Botox) but everyone has been really nice and the procedures have been effective. I like how they price the Botox (per area, not per unit) and they have always been really accepting, understanding, and kind when my baby and toddler have to tag along to my appointments. Reception is very nice, office is clean and comfortable. There’s a pay lot across the street, which is nice in a crowded neighborhood.In terms of treatments: the microneedling/ PRP was ... fine. I purchased a 3 session pack, knowing that results take time.It’s been almost 3 months since my last session. There’s been some moderate improvement in some places but slight discoloration in others.There were a couple of sticking points:(1) I dont feel like the initial consultation addressed my *personal* skin issues. I had mentioned microneedling and the practicioner jumped on that. It didnt seem like I was talking to a professional who advised me on my skin tone or set out a comprehensive plan to improve my distinct issues.(2) I chose this office because I wanted a woman of color who has experience with melanated skin. But Dr. Icecreamwala never showed in person. I get that she has several offices, but I didn’t see any women of color on staff.(3) Overall, everyone seemed rushed. I had to ask THREE separate times for pre/post-care instructions. I got conflicting answers to my questions on different days. I couldnt reach anyone between treatments. There was no way to follow up. It felt like a drive-through experience.Ultimately, they did a competent job. Not a bad office. But Im looking for a second opinion and better experience elsewhere.

I am a physician and do not typically leave comments, especially negative ones, but my experience with the doctor and the office was so frustrating that I feel it will help others to decided whether to choose this dermatology practice or not. I went with a simple problem for my son and needed a prescription filled. After days of checking with the pharmacist and phone calls to the office with them promising to get back to me, I finally became irate enough that the doctor finally called me back. He decided to put the prescription on hold after checking the labs but left me hanging without any follow up discussion, leaving me to keep waiting and expecting the prescription. After finally deciding to go ahead with the therapy, it still took me over 5 phone calls to the office and multiple checks with the pharmacist for the prescription to finally go through correctly. Also, they forgot to send another lab slip and when they did, it was the old one and I had to call them again to fix this problem. All through this time, the office was responsive but was very ineffective in actually solving the problem. They lacked attention to detail and follow through. It was the most frustrating experience Ive had with a doctors office and it took way too much effort on my part to get their mistakes fixed.

Hands down Dr. Icecreamwala is one of the worst dermatologists Ive seen. Aside from being impersonal, she spent a total of 5 minutes during my first patient appointment for facial acne and did not ask questions about what Ive used in the past and what has/ has not worked. She did not conduct a thorough examination, and gave no recommendation aside from using Benzoyl Peroxide wash (which has not worked for me in the past). She and her P.A. were highly unprofessional. I do not recommend her, and was honestly so disappointed with how sloppy she was.Pros: Office is nice. Staff is friendly.

Highly recommend this place. I worked with Jennifer (PA) and she listened to my concerns and gave empathetic and thoughtful feedback. I thought I might feel rushed because of other reviews, but Jennifer took the time to shake my hand and ask me about my day, which made me feel super comfortable. The digital streamlining of the paperwork was amazing. I was running a few minutes late and they were super nice about it. The office is clean and everyone was incredibly kind and courteous. I hope one day all doctors offices will transition to the cafe waiting room, as it was really pleasant and helped alleviate the anxiety I feel when I go to the doctor. Also - there were plenty of products for sale but no one tried to push any on me, which is common at some dermatologists’ offices. I can’t say enough good things about this place. I normally hate doctors but this was overall a great experience.

Extremely friendly staff with an exceptional amount of knowledge about the procedures that they offer. They answered all of my questions and concerns. You can tell that they really take pride in their work at this place. I have gone to other dermatologists who are more worried about getting you in and out of the office as fast as they can to increase their bottom line, rather than making the patient comfortable about particular procedures. Many places will strictly push one type of treatment, Icecreamwala offers a spectrum of treatments with great recommendations to give you the best results for your goals . Above and beyond my expectations and I will definitely be going back because of the level of professionalism. They are also competitively priced.

So happy! I had a video consultation a few days ago to discuss BBL laser treatments, and I felt so comfortable with the staff. They were friendly and very knowledgeable. They were able to book me for the first of a series of three sessions two days later.I had the first treatment yesterday! As I was looking for a dermatologist for my 13 year old daughter’s acne I had one main goal. To find a younger female doctor so that my daughter would feel more comfortable. I have to admit though that when I saw the name Dr. Icecreamwala I was immediately drawn in because that is the best last name ever!!!What an amazing experience at this office!When I called to book the gentleman who booked our appointment was warm and gracious. When we arrived the receptionist ( forgive me for not remembering but I think it was Jibran?) was also warm and inviting and the office is set up like an awesome cafe . He was constantly checking on us while we were waiting to make sure we were comfortable.Dr. Icecreamwala made my daughter feel super comfortable and we were both totally enamored with her! A lot of doctors won’t really tell you what they’re thinking and won’t take the time to explain your body to you, but Dr. Icecreamwala is. She’s open to ideas and is so kind. I was seeing a PA around 2 years ago for keloid injections. At one of my scheduled routine appointments, there was a different PA that treated me. She told me that my keloid was a cyst. As a 20 year old vulnerable girl, I trusted the medical professional that she knew best. After a painful carving of my cyst that almost made me pass out, she said, “oh. I don’t think it’s a cyst actually.”Then they proceeded to BILL me $100 extra for the “cyst removal.” I spent months fighting for the charge to get dropped and was too traumatized to ever return for a keloid treatment. I have asked for my medical records and photos of my keloids to try to understand what happened and where it all went wrong, for my own closure. I have never received a response or never received any medical advice about next steps after multiple attempts to speak to someone.Fast forward 2 years- the keloid is at least 4x bigger. After doing more research, any further injury to keloids causes them to grow bigger. It would never have been this bad if that medical professional didn’t cause HARM to me. I am extremely self conscious of the giant bump on my ear, and I really wasn’t that self conscious about it previously. I initially went to this office for mole removal and figured I might just get injections while I’m there. I’m traumatized from the entire experience and have yet to find a treatment that will shrink the keloids - it is still growing. Every time I think about how this I just feel super upset. All could’ve been avoided if I didn’t trust the medical professionals working here to treat me properly. I wish they would at least have tried to fix the situation but they have not responded to me.This is going to affect me for the rest of my life. They did permanent damage to my ear.

I didn’t receive the “state of the art” care or procedures they insist they provide. I think thats only for certain patients. I did get a second opinion however and my condition is gone now. Although the office/staff were nice, the overall experience with the doctor was lacking. It all happened so fast (maybe 3minutes total) I don’t even know what she thought I had. But she did insist that my condition was incurable in as little words as possible. All my follow up questions after that were met with one word answers, a prescription and a request to come back in two weeks. Now why would I do that? Long story short: always get a second opinion.

Avoid coming here, they hire whack doctors. I first tried out this practice a few months ago and met with some German doctor. This guy starts telling me he doesn’t believe in American medical practices and starts lecturing me that my testosterone levels are low (they are not I went to a real doctor to make sure). He completely ignores my concerns and then proceeds to rant about how American medical practices are horrible and that he believes in homeopathic medicine. He gives me a list of ten oils and supplements to go out and buy instead of addressing any of my concerns. He made me very uncomfortable and didn’t bother to explain anything.I was whatever about it cause my co pay was only $10. At the time, I asked the receptionist if that was it and she said yes. Unbelievably I just got an email saying I now owe $250?? This is ridiculous, this office doesn’t even hire real doctors and they’re charging me this much?!? After a 10 minute appointment, my doctor prescribed me a hormonal based medication for acne, assuring me that there would be little or no side effects.However, she asked me ZERO lifestyle questions and I had to learn the hard way that this med interacts severely with even small amounts of alcohol. It’s also caused my antidepressant to stop working, which has been awful.I was NOT informed that there are food restrictions and frequent blood tests required, or that I would have to be carefully weaned off of the med before I can stop taking it.To be fair, this is not the first time a doctor has casually experimented with my hormones, with disastrous consequences. I stated in the very short appointment that I’d had terrible experiences with hormonal medications, but the doctor adamantly assured me that this was different and there wouldn’t be mental health changes.TLDR: this is irresponsible medicine. Very nice office, great vibes from everyone, money motivated, and the whole operation felt well organized.About a year ago, I had a common, easily treated skin condition. I suggested the condition as my best guess to Dr. Icecreamwala but gladly accepted her alternative diagnosis. I proceeded to buy the prescription and follow the instructions for two months, all with no reduction in symptoms. I then saw another doctor and received a prescription for the condition I initially suggested to Dr. Icecreamwala. Within the expected time frame of the new medication, the skin condition was cured. The visible abnormalities and pain were gone.This experience served as a reminder that even people who are clearly very good at what they do (look at the other reviews) and accomplished can make big mistakes that result in a lot of preventable pain.Updated: I called over a year later to see if they wanted to make it right by offering 1 free appointment to treat some dry skin on my back. Above and beyond the call of duty! I went to see Dr. Icecreamwala for the first time when I had a painful, itchy eyelid rash a few months ago. Everything about my appointment was a delight. From the free parking downstairs to the cool cafe-like waiting room, my on-time appointment and her pleasant, thoughtful analysis of my situation. After I left the office, I learned that the medication prescribed had to go through review by my insurance that could take a few days. When she found out, she asked me to stop by her office to pick up samples for immediate relief, but when I failed to turn up before closing due to work, she delivered the samples to my home and left it by the front door in a beautiful paper bag along with a caring note! Had been going here for micro needling and very disappointed by my experience. In order to keep their clinic running on time, I was “numbed” for just 7 minutes (and I requested twice that they extend the time) and ended up in excruciating pain and tears during my actual service. They then had to stop the service and reapply the numbing cream for the requisite 20-30 minutes. It’s completely irresponsible for a healthcare provider to provide care in such a haphazard manner just to keep their logistics on track. This has been the worst experience ever. I had a halo laser procedure done on my face. I am Puerto Rican and Caucasian and told the Chance of problems was less than 1% and not to worry. I originally wanted micro needling as my skin was damn near perfect and I only had sun spots and some large pores around nose but was convinced halo was better option. I have had every problem listed. My skin was incorrectly prepped prior to laser and post treatment was incorrect (I’ve seen two derm clinics since the laser treatment who told me this). I have scarring, discoloration, orange peel textured skin. The office seems so nonchalant about it and has not taken my concerns seriously which delayed my healing and caused more issues. I am highly disappointed. Spent 2000 to now have to spend thousands more to correct this. I will never come here for another treatment. They do not take this seriously.

Dr. Icecreamwala discussed the procedure with me, what I could expect and my healing time. My results were instant, and it looks natural. Icecreamwala Dermatology is the place to go for subtle touches that leave you with natural looking beauty.Also - a fun benefit of having my procedure done was watching my choice of a film during the procedure. There is also wi-fi if you need to be connected to the world during your appointment. If you prefer, you can select a music playlist if you prefer to relax that way. I wanted to write a really honest review because this place has helped me with my skin issues until the very recent visit that still traumatizes me until now. I went in early 2020 to get a series of bbl laser treatments on my face due to using a high percentage retinol that ruined my face. The results were lovely and I was happy that my skin was pretty much back to normal. Fast forward in late 2020, just a couple days before the new year, I decided to come back to get a bbl touch up since there were a few red capillaries coming back. The treatment, that I thought went well (due to peeling and slight burns) was not. My right cheek formed a second degree burn and was told it was superficial and that it would eventually fade. Up until now, the scar is still noticeable. I was offered two microneedling sessions to help the burn because it turns out it wasnt really superficial after all and that the laser treatment really did burn my skin. The microneedling was fine but over the span of the treatments and beforehand, I was starting to develop rosacea because of the irritation and burn on my cheek. I was put on antibiotics and rhofade, antibiotics helped but the rhofade made it worse. Eventually on my last visit, it seemed like they were fed up with me and didnt really want to help me anymore since they charged me for a visit when it was them that messed up.

I dont feel like I was given any opportunity to talk about what might be causing my acne, nor any in-depth explanation of what the products I was handed do. I was just handed them and told to start using them. I wish the PA would explained what retinol is, how my acne works, what causes it, why I need moisturizer, what is specifically wrong with the products Im using now, etc. Additionally, I was not told the prices of any of the products and the lack of transparency there made me feel like it was more important to the PA to sell products and make a profit than it was to actually help me build a better relationship with my skin care routine. I am the physician-grandmother of a teenage boy with acne, relocating his care from SF to the East Bay. I was pleased with Dr. Icecreamwalas assessment of his skin condition (basically providing a second opinion, and concurring with the previous providers thinking). I appreciated her careful discussion about the pros and cons of Acutane. Given the possible side effect of serious depression, she advised waiting with a trying this medication until post-pandemic return to normal life. During the pandemic it would be difficult to judge whether depression could be caused by the pandemics disruptions in a young persons life, or whether it was likely an Acutane side effect. Without our being able to know which was causing the depression, Acutane would have to be stopped since causation couldnt be ruled out. Dr. Icecreamwala added that once Acutane was stopped because it MIGHT have caused depression, doctors would likely be unwilling to try it (again) in the future.So, in a careful and caring way she gave us serious food for thought, related well to our young-adult grandson, and provided him a positive encounter even though he was disappointed that she did not encourage use of Acutane at this point in time.
