We love this place. Is it a 5 star hotel or resort? No... But its nice, clean and the staff are super friendly and helpful. A very short walk to the beach and close to Balboa and shopping with really good food within walking distance. For us, there isnt any reason to stay anywhere else!

It wasnt bad, just the bathroom/shower was a bit weak, bad pressure. A subtle smokey smell in room. Bed was great. Staff was nice. Think it should be a bit cheaper in low/rainy season during weekday like $90-$100 not $130 for this place.

We stayed here for one night, we chose the location as it was a reasonably short drive to LAX for an early flight, while still being an interesting place to visit, and that worked out well. The rooms are clean and comfortable but a bit old and faded. Compared to more modern chain hotels, you notice things like the lack of convenient power outlets. Noise from the highway was also a bit of an issue. But for a night it was basically fine. The rate was a bit higher than you would expect for what it is. We loved the neighborhood though, there was a really good restaurant next door and an amazing cafe a bit further down the street.

What really wowed me about this place is how clean the rooms, the beds, the linen and the bathrooms are. What a pleasant and incredible surprise. If theres one gripe I have, is that it is on the PCH so the road noise can be bothersome at night, but it wasnt terrible. The fact that it is a few hundred feet away from the beach is icing on the cake while the price per night adds the cherry on the top for the overall value of the stay.

This hotel is a perfect stay, walking distance from the beach. It is clean and maintained. For a budget-friendly, older hotel by the beach it is not dingy. Right behind the hotel is a park, so it’s great for kids. All the staff have been friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. The location is great and I felt safe.

It’s definitely a motel that shows its age. Location is ok if you just want to go to the sand, but don’t plan on hitting Lido or the pier unless you grab an Uber or have your own car.The staff was kind.Room wasn’t like the photos. Our room was run down. The floor was fixed with duct tape (see pic). The bedding was worn (see pic). The bed mattress was not comfortable. You actually heard the springs when you moved around. The bathroom was old and the exhaust fan with the light had a bunch of dead bugs & dirt (see pic). Old furniture (see pic). The Tv picture was very cloudy and it was not clear.It’s a motel, with the exception of the location, it’s kind of what you would expect. We thought it would be a little better than a typical motel (not hotel) with the nice pics, location and reviews, but we made the mistake of spending $120+ on a weekday-winter time stay at this place.Won’t stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at the Newport Channel Inn. Im not sure why it is listed a 2-star Motel, because it exceeded our expectations.This is a MOTEL and not a hotel. The rooms are clean and have basic items, TV, small fridge (no freezer), microwave, coffee pot. Also available are beach towels, sand toys, boogie boards, so no need to pack those !The beach is two blocks away and there are fabulous places to eat withing a block.Our purpose from staying here was to be at the beach with a short commute to Disneyland. It was a 30-minute drive and well worth the price difference to stay here.It is an older motel and as such, you can have noise from the neighbors. I had a concern about one of my neighbors and the front desk was fabulous about discussing the matter with me and resolving it.I WILL STAY HERE AGAIN and Recommend to everyone!

This is a great little place if you want to be near the beach. The rooms are very clean and updated. The people are incredibly nice. The website says there is breakfast but there is not though. Everything else is accurate though, and there is a very good place next door.

We had great customer service. My 2 friends and I stayed in there 3 queen and 1 single bed. Huge room. The only thing I can say negatively is it will need some upgrades to the bathroom. Very tiny shower and the plugs near one the lights wasnt working. You do hear traffic noise from the steeet. Other than that it was great. Walking distance from the beach.

One of the best values in OC, especially in the off season. I stayed here in Nov, 2022 for 5 nights, and now again for 3 nights in Feb, 2023. Clean, safe, and quiet. Last time I had 2 queen beds for me and my dad. This time its a king bed for just me. Large, comfortable room. I had a good nights sleep. The staff are friendly and helpful. Ill definitely be back.

Great little hotel, very affordable for the neighborhood. Rooms are very spacious, way bigger than most chain hotels, and the king size bed was bigger than any king size bed I have seen before! Right on the Pacific coast highway and the beach is just across the highway. You get free umbrellas and towels from the hotel. The room even had a sliding divider. Just great value for money; definitely recommend if staying at Newport Beach.

The motel was the perfect location, close to the beach and areas to eat! Literally walking distance and it was beautiful all around. The place isn’t fancy by any means, our air conditioner was leaking the entire time, and was leaking onto a power source, we turned a light on and it started sizzling and flashing. Total fire hazard. Then the air conditioner completely stopped working on our last night there which was awful. They offered a room for our last night but it was pointless to try and pack up 5 people when we would only be there for that last night to sleep.They didn’t ever give enough towels for 5 people. The one staff person we seen was very nice at least. But with how hazardous our room was, I wouldn’t recommend. They should have offered a discount of some sort for making an excuse for the air conditioner the first time we complained about it. Not the last day we’re there knowing we would be leaving in 6 hours.Only giving it 2 stars due to the location and view!

I stayed here for a while. I got to know the staff which seemed to be courteous at first. But it was all a trick .They were just trying to charge my credit card for much needed repairs to this old hotel. They actually charged my credit card more than $300.00 for a new toilet that was probably at least 15 to 20 years old. I told them that they needed to check it out because it had a slow leak. They said that I broke it,charged my credit card over $300.00 for a new toilet, which at best cost $99.00 .Then when I complained,they kicked me out of the room.DO NOT STAY HERE!

Cute little beach inn near the ocean. Accommodations are basic, but they offer a number of items for the beach (towels, sand toys, boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas.) What made our stay exceptional was the service we received, especially from Evelyn at the front. Would stay again!

A quaint, retro, family owned motel very close to the beach. This was perfect for our stay. The owners/managers were very accommodating and friendly. A short walk across to the beach, and local long-standing restaurants nearby. Theres a rooftop sun deck, free parking, chairs and beach towels to use for the day. Its on a busy street so its a little noisy, but we expected it due to the proximity of Coast Hwy. The beds were comfy, and the rooms had everything we needed. The care and caution the proprietors have taken during the pandemic were appreciated.

The room was big and spacious! The location is great and the staff was friendly. It was especially nice to not have to worry about parking. They also had boogie boards, towels and a lot of other beach rentals. My only complaint was that the bed wasn’t super comfortable, but the pillows were very comfy!

It’s a two star which means not fancy but ok. Sheets were scratchy. My first room, ac was leaking badly so they put me in another room. I wish I had stayed closer to central Newport Beach, I walked about 1.5 miles to first bike rental store. Eat Chow restaurant near was very good and there’s a convenient store next door which is great. The hotel rates are cheaper, so if you need more than “ok” stay elsewhere. Walk to beach was about 4 minutes, it’s not on the beach.

Loved this place minutes away from Newport Beach, myself and the kids loved it! We got the 2 full beds with one twin bed and worked well! Everything was clean and quiet place, theres also a playground in the back for kids to play, although we didnt get to go due to it raining, we still enjoyed the stay! Felt like a time machine to the family trips back in the 90s (in a good way)Great access to the beach, 5 minutes away to a less traveled area of Newport Beach. I have stayed here before and really liked this hotel. This visit left a little to be desired however.The hotel room was clean. But due to Covid the housekeepers cannot clean the rooms daily. It was a little bit of a hassle to get clean towels and empty the trash. I saw other guests leaving towels and trash just wherever because they didnt know what to do with it.Also the amount of smokers on the property was DISGUSTING!! People smoking from the walkways, parking lot, rooftop patio, in front on the office. The worst part is it was a lot of the staff out there smoking and partying it up at all times of day and night. I didnt feel they were very professional at all.It really is a lovely hotel with a great location so I hope they can work on these issues. Id love to come back if so.

My husband and I stayed here once 28 years ago and still pretty much looks the same with a few minor upgrades. We used to live in CA but now in Texas. We came out here for my mother-in-laws funeral so we wanted someplace quiet to stay. We stayed here because we wanted to be close by the beach and away from the heavy congestion of the cities inland. We love Newport Beach, its quiet but close enough to Newport pier and bars. Christine & Brian were so very helpful accommodating us of our needs. Also the man checking us in took his time and showed us a map of cool places to go near the hotel, its a block from the beach! They let you borrow boogie boards and beach towels! If you are looking for clean, friendly, no frills lodging, check this place out. We had 2 rooms connecting with 2 queen beds in each room, there is a small fridge, microwave and table with 2 chairs. The beds were comfortable. They had a large sundeck on the 2nd floor which was great for just lounging or tables to eat. It was just a short walk (like 5 minutes) to the beach, It was great they have beach chairs, umbrellas, toys, towels, boogie boards you can borrow at no additional charge. Parking is included in the rate. Would stay again if in the area.

Nice people staff. Room was spacious. The beds were super comfortable, location perfect, eateries (try the TidePooles brkfst burrito) and conveniences close by. Halfway between HB and Balboa island, plus close to the 55 freeway! The place just needs some updates e.g. new AC filters (theres still Covid), the shower door in my room was broken so couldnt close it. The management and staff stepped up to do what is right and took some $$ off for the inconvenience. I would stay here again.

This is a nice small motel off hwy 1, right across the street from the Beach. It is away from the pier crowd. There is a playground right behind the hotel, for those with kids. The Beach is just a couple of blocks walk. They offer free boogie boards, Beach towels, Beach chairs and umbrellas. The only issue is that it is an older motel, so the wall are a little thin, and parking is tight.

My family has been staying at the Channel Inn for years! It is our go to for Southern California vacationing! I recently stayed here with my sweetheart on the last stop for our honeymoon. We love this nice, cute, very clean gem hidden along the coast! The staff is wonderful, the location is prime and it is always reasonably priced! Do yourself a favor and stay here!

Very very unsatisfied. Hair everywhere. Sheets looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in 4months. Bathroom doesn’t look anything like the pictures. Bathroom door is broken and both lamps. We had the manger bring us an extra bed During the night when we were gone. When we got back my prescription meds were missing. Not accusing anyone but just seems fishy. They have cameras pointed at my door and won’t let me access them.

We chose this place over the Internet and were sceptical of the reviews. We stayed here for 4 days and loved every minute at this place.They are clean rooms and very quiet. We loved the staff. They were helpful and friendly and helped us with our visit to Disneyland and with the good places near the Inn. They also have beach equipment for use while your staying.We will definitely be back to this Inn. It made the whole trip worthwhile staying here. Nothing but good to say about this Inn. We loved this place! Its a simple beach hotel, 2 blocks to the beach. Its very convenient to great restaurants, liquor store and shopping little local shops. The grounds were kept very tidy and beach equipment...chairs, umbrellas and towels are lent to the guests at no charge. Well be back!

We arrived a bit past 11 at night, finding that there was nobody to check us in. We called and the matter was quickly settled, though we felt apologetic that wed apparently woken up the person who came to the desk. Our room was simple and clean, located conveniently near the Newport Beach. Parking was a bit cramped. It was overall a good enough stay, despite the check in incident (though that may have just been a mistake on our part). Its close proximity to the beach was what stood out to us.

They supply beach towels, chairs and boogie boards for your enjoyment at the beach which is just a short walk across the street. While here we ate at Eat Chow which was awesome.10 minute drive to all piers so most everything is close by. Dont let the age of this inn fool you, Im a hotel hater ( i work in one in vegas) but this place was acceptable thats why it got 5 stars. Staff cares, means alot. Enjoy it! The best little hotel in Newport Beach. Its on the western end of Newport which is nice because its not overly crowded. Its a short bike ride to Newport Pier, Balboa Beach or Huntington Beach. The hotel has chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, towels and toys to borrow for being a guest. This place is my favorite for summer vacation.

Everything went well aside from a big issue. Around 2 or 3am a large group of people decided to hang out in the common exterior walk ways right outside the rooms. SO close that I can hear every word of their conversations. I open my door and tell one of these weirdos to go away. They move down a few doors and continue.This goes on ALL night. I finally got to sleep again around 7am. I called the front office 24 hour line and got no response. These people moved around, made noise, talked loudly, open and closed doors for hours.I complained the next day and the man at the front desk told me that group of kids was the managers trashy friends and that he has been telling the manager to not allow them hear (like this was a common occurrence.) He assured me they would not be back the second night and that was the only reason I stayed.If you stay here, which is an otherwise fantastic place to stay, friendly staff, knowledgeable, helpful, provide beach gear free of cost, PLEASE inquire to see if those trashy friends are going to be there. If they are, stay somewhere else.

My wife and I decided to stay here for our Anniversary. Every year we try to go somewhere different thats not expensive so we had no high expectations of the room, but it was nice. I had set up our reservations about a month ahead of time. The area was more secluded than we hoped and had totravel to get to places other than the beach. There wasnt many places to eat dinner close by since the few that were around closed after lunch, but we did enjoy going to the piers. With that said, the problems began at check-in. The younger male staff seemed a little pre-occupied, but took care of our check-in at 3 PM. The female staff had stated that our room had new carpet and that the workers were still back in our area, but would be finished in an hour. We got in our room and it seemed nice, but the workers (carpet layers) were there until 6:30 PM banging on walls almost continuously and talking very loudly right below our room so it was difficult to relax. We walked down the street to get a sandwich for dinner and one of the workers abruptly said we had to move our car from the parking space because it was in their way to enter one of the rooms with the carpet rolls, so I moved it. When we returned the older gentleman (staff) came to our room to ask us how we liked the new carpet.The next morning, on our Anniversary, the workers began work at about 9 AM and were talking so loud most of the day that we could not open our window to enjoy the breeze from the park area. Also, a little girl who seemed to be one of the housekeepers children was running up and down our hall screaming and yelling a lot of the day. The next morning we checked out at about 10 AM and the younger man (staff) almost seemed put out that I was bothering him with checkout. In closing, we have never, in 30 years, had such a bad stay on our Anniversary, in fact this is the first bad review I have ever written. I feel they should have told me when I made the reservations or called us later to let us know this was taking place at that time so I could have made reservations somewhere else. They could have even closed for a few days to have the carpet put in so that guests would not be inconvenienced. We dont get away often and this was very important to us. It seemed they were trying to justify the inconvenience with letting us know they had new carpet. I know that future guests will not have to deal with this since it was just done, but it does go to show you how much they care about the guests stay. This was a negatively memorable stay. Also, we stayed during the week, so it wasnt like they had to take care of a lot of guests. We will not be returning there and I will not recommend this place to anyone.

Ok where to start...?? Office opens at 7am means that it opens when the jerk at the office feels like it. This means that at 9am when you have a 2 year old that needs to get in the room and the key card that they made for you doesnt work and you need another one, you can be assured that you will ring the doorbell and wait for 5 minutes and then nothing... Then when you ring the bell a few more times this total waste of space will get up in his pajamas and only open up the small window, proceed to hit hit the window numerous times to make sure you know that you ruined his beauty sleep and then proceed to ask you in the most contrite way why you lost your key. When you explain to them that the key doesnt work, he proceeds to throw up in his mouth a little and grunts while getting you said key. 15 minutes later you are in your room where the cleaning service may or may not have done a random amount of work in there just depending on if they got to your room at a normal time (11 to 2) say for example or if they need to get home because it is 6 pm and apparently sitting around a bunch means that they dont get to you until then (seriously, 2 cleaners should be able to get the 20 some rooms done in less than the 12 hours they seemed to be there in a day). We used to come here when I was a kid and I had nothing but great memories up until this trip, but we will now not be staying here ever again. The location is great but it can only partially make up for the lack of service and the general run down feel of the hotel. Oh and if the worthless person at the desk has a bunch of his friends over bring the ear plugs because its going to be a long and God awful night.

Many areas of Los Angeles are getting old cant do much about that. the motel has recently been renovated brand new bathrooms the sinks were new each room had a dehumidifier and air conditioner you can smell that someone almost cooked the sheets and towles with a hint of bleach to get them surgically clean. Even better was the chance location a few blocks away from the marina and the Disneyland type crowds. In just a few minutes we traveled up and down PCH 1 we found an amazing coffee shop thats already improve my breakfast skills at home also went to the Bendor Italian restaurant for what was a most amazing mealand we happen to drop in on the last Friday of the month which was their wine purchase the case of a dry grown grape from Italy. Oh did I mention the beach no long walk compared to the beaches up and down Los Angeles its deserted with a few surfers and locals who have 6 million dollar condos facing the beach from you.
