Dr Dounel is amazing! He’s very to the point and honest about whatever procedures need to be done! He’s professional, blunt and about business! We were able to get a super painful molar pulled very efficiently and quickly. Don’t believe all the hate and scrutiny of these other reviews! This guy trulyKnows what he’s doing and id be in a world of pain if it wasn’t for him! He was very kind and gentle and made sure I was ok throughout the entire process. Definitely would recommend 10/10!

I saw Dr dounel today and he did amazing work. He was so quick and efficient. He took my wisdom tooth out and made me so comfortable in the process. He took time to make sure I was properly numbed and listened when I express any pain I was feeling. Definitely returning to get the rest of my dental work done.

Dr. Dounel is an amazing dentist. First of all, my emergency occurred on a Sunday and he responded to my inquiry first thing Sunday morning with an appointment. He went above and beyond to provide me with a payment plan for my treatment. 10 out 10, would definitely recommend friends and family to his practice. Thank you again Dr. Dounel, you rock man.

Dr. Dounel is an amazingly talented dentist who seems to be able to expertly handle all work with ease and expertise. For myself he handled a root canal that my previous dental office would not even consider, over here at New Smile Dental he not only saved my tooth from extraction but gave me a permanent crown that looks natural and feels so well that forget its there at times. Very well with time management of appointments and very helpful with short notice emergencies. Sent my own mother and he handled her 6 veneers needed with excellent results even matching the natural tooth color as to avoid an unnatural finish for her teeth.

Once again Dr.Dounel met my needs and came threw for me on the same day I called! I was in the office within the hour yesterday and was out of there in a heart beat! My 3rd time with DR. DOUNEL & forever will keep on going...Had my lower left wisdom tooth extracted ..Very professional,very confident, knows exactly what he is doing, very kind and patient which makes me feel very comfortable. Called in due to severe pain at 6pm and Dr. Dounel answered. He said he would take care of me. He met me here and educated me and walked me through the procedure. Less than an hour later I am free of pain thanks to him. Will be back and definitely recommend!!!!

Really odd receptionist? Or whoever picked up the phone. Called for an emergency extraction - he was oddly belittling about the situation and said “she can’t wait 3 more hours?” when he told me his earliest appt.Told him that she couldn’t even talk and that I was going to bring her to the closest ER for maybe a strong pain med until the time being, then he told me “what’s the ER gonna do, they aren’t dentists.”Turned me off completely, then I called another place and had extremely nice people who took her asap. I then texted this to him and he responded with this:Super odd, rude & unprofessional. Seems the other staff are nice, but whoever picked up the phone that day was a weirdooooo lol

I called the office because I was having severe pain. I was scheduled an hour later. Got there. The pain was coming from my wisdom tooth. Dr Dounel saw me and took my wisdom tooth out in less than 10 min. The whole appointment took 45 min and I was out the door. He was great and efficient and no pain. Dr. Dounel was very professional and phenomenal in what he does. I came in with immense pain in my lower left molar due to an infected cavity and the resulting procedure was a root canal. He set me up with the needed prescriptions and the following appointments, now I am pain free with a smile to be proud of. Make alooong story short. Initially Iwnet to NSD in November 2020 I received an emergency root canal and filling. I was so happy to not be in pain I never addressed the fact that I felt my tooth was filed down too low. Even the assistant asked me if it was a baby tooth smh like who sees an adult that, and why would I get a root canal on a child tooth (not even sure if it’s possible) Three year later my entire tooth broke out while eating. Here I am now toothless and out of $1200 I called the office and was unable to get anyone. I can’t even smile not without being insecure 😞

Tonight we had an emergency - Mom 89-yr old mom had a tooth that split and it was getting infected. I searched online and called Dr. Michael and was relieved that he was still open. I called him around 7:30, and he was able to see us soon after we arrived around 8:20pm. Dr. Michael was very nice to my mom. He even let me come back to translate while he treated her. He took an x-ray and pulled out her infected tooth with the efficiency and confidence of a seasoned pro. We were were all done in less than an hour. Dr. Michael is a hero!

My wisdom tooth removal was so quick I didnt even have time to think about it! I was sufficiently numbed up, then felt some pressure from an instrument, then the tooth was out! After visiting an ER we call this place who is stating they are 24hrs..My bf is in a panic, Im crying. This guy answers like were annoying him. Listen! I went to get a bridge done. I also told the doctor that I’m looking to get some veneers done. But he quickly said first thing first let’s do the bridge. That was a mistake because I’ve since contacted another doctor who laughed at the idea of doing the bridge first. Due to coloring etc.. I thought wow. My other concern with this doctor is that he didn’t numb me (like those little numbing pads) before sticking a big needle in my mouth. I was in loads of pain. I was in the worst pain of my entire life on New Year’s Eve and after calling every emergency dentist I could look up I was able to make an appointment here for New Year’s Day in the early afternoon. I had a broken molar that was infected and I had been putting off care because I’m so terrified of the dentist. Dr. Dounel was so kind and put me at ease. He made sure I wasn’t in any pain whatsoever before extracting the tooth and the whole procedure took less than 10 minutes. I was on a mini-moon visiting from Boston and needed an emergency procedure to have a tooth pulled that got loose from a filling popping out. We tried many Emergency Dentists and got the runaround. She got work done at Western Dental in Inglewood and they left an opening in her tooth. They did a horrible job on her and treated her poorly. This Dr Dounel was totally unprofessional and dismissive when there was a mixup of insurance information. My Aetna app told me I was in his network so I assumed I was getting in network pricing. After getting injected to be numbed for a filling replacement I was reading my insurance information and realized he was quoting me for out of network pricing. I asked him for clarification but he assured me I was out of his network. So I told him I don’t want the services and he was more than willing to let me walk out versus try to help me solve the problem. I restated he was definitely in my network but he told me I wasn’t and had me pay for the numbing injection $50.After leaving and calling my insurance turns out I was correct and he is in my network.So after maybe 10 mins with my mouth still numb I go back in to explain they are in my network, he was wrong, and I want my filling fixed but he told me he has no time today and he’ll call me to reschedule.At least he shouldn’t have told me I wasn’t in his network before we began.At least he should’ve seen me before his other patients and fixed my filling. I have a hole in my tooth.All his 5 star reviews are fake. Look at how they all have the same language patterns and spelling errors.This guy was not looking out for me.Don’t go here.

Where do I begin...My experience with this dentist was an absolute nightmare.My experience at New Smile Dental caused me deep panic, fear, and pain. For many months after this incident, I was terrified about returning to a dentist again. (Thankfully, I have found a professional, empathetic, and knowledgeable dentist in recent times.)New Smile Dental should be called New Trauma.It literally took the dentist--Dr. Michael Dounel-- two days to perform one tooth extraction. I came to this dentist in severe pain, hoping for an emergency extraction of an infected wisdom tooth. He yanked at my mouth as if my mouth was the hood of a car. He was in a hurry and complained bitterly the entire time I was under his care. When I put my arm up (he told me to raise my arm to signal if I was in pain), he would angrily yell at me to put my arm down. He denied that I was in pain and several times, despite my groaning, told me I was just fine and that hed given me more than enough pain relief.I gripped the seat, my hands dripping in sweat, hoping this man would not pull too hard and cause irreparable damage.At one point, frustrated with my cries for help, he said, Im a dentist, not a magician.This man is definitely not a magician. I cannot even say he is a dentist.He was rude, cold, and very harsh. He has terrible bedside manner.I literally ran out of the office as soon as he was finished with me. I was in even more pain then when I entered his office.The worst part?Even in his impatience, he still had not managed to complete the job.I had to return the very next day to go through even more harsh treatment.I have had all my wisdom teeth removed at a different dentist office. This new dentist was deeply perplexed at the work Dr. Dounel had done and looked at my mouth in shock. He told me I should never have had this man perform this sort of extraction. I only wish I knew this sooner. This new dentist also warned me to never to go back to New Smile. I assured him that I would never go back to Dr. Dounel--even if someone paid me.I write this a year out from my terrible experience because it has taken me this long to process this painful experience. I write this review to help others. I truly do not believe the many five star reviews of New Smile to be real. Please scroll down to read other less favorable reviews and you will see a more truthful picture of Dr. Dounel emerge. He blames customers who give him lower ratings and cannot take accountability for his actions. This man has little empathy for people in pain. He is insensitive, arrogant, and forever in a hurry.I do wonder if his treatment of me was racially and/or economically motivated, and I cannot recommend his services for any Black or Brown person (no matter how many staged pictures he posts of his diverse clientele...). Dr. Dounel helped me extremely quickly in an emergency crown situation I had. He was personable, friendly, and professional. The best thing, in my opinion, was that he is also a perfectionist and wants you to be happy rather than rushing you out the door. Thank you Dr. Dounel!

Dr. Donuel saved my entire trip from getting ruined !!! Came to LA for the weekend on vacation and one of my veneers had chipped. I called the facility instantly and they were able to take me in as soon as I requested. Fixed my veneer in under 10 minutes and saved my vacation from getting ruined. Best experience ever! I came here in so much pain and come to find out I had a problem with my wisdom tooth and I had to get it pulled. I was sooo terrified but the dentist reinsure me that everything is going to be okay and he’s going to make sure he takes my pain away. He was so smooth and good And mind u I never had an extraction before so this is was a first and he did so well ! I definitely recommend!!!

I am a person who definately hate going to the dentist. My first visit was great and Dr Dounel made me feel very comfortable. He assured me that everything would be okay and he was right. He look like a swindler doctor.At first, I paid $65, but he asked for another $500 to pull out one lower tooth.I thought it was $65 and was happy. These teeth were easy to pull out.I was angry, but I only paid $65 to come out. And then found family dentistry Rampart.(3rd st and Rampart)Dr. shatter-helped. $140.00 removed the tooth one piece.cant believe $565 dollars for a tooth remove.it is crazy. New smile Dental Nurse also laughed as if she didnt understand. Do not pay and sign before check up pay amount.

This place is amazing! I had dental work performed elsewhere that left me unable to chew properly but I came here and the doctor and staff were the absolute best. The doctor was able to fix my issues and I was finally able to close my mouth and chew properly. The staff is so polite and the office is just beautiful. Will definitely be back! Think I just found my forever dentist.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Dounels since 2008. I must admit, I was very afraid at first from bad dental experiences during my childhood. But much to my surprise, Dr. Dounel was very patient and understanding. My youngest son was also afraid during his exam and began to cry. Dr. Dounel talked to him, calmed him down and made the decision to postpone his cleaning to a later date to prevent traumatizing him. As a mom, that meant a lot to me.Dr. Dounel and New Smile Dental staff are all very attentive to their patients and really go the extra mile to make sure we are always comfortable and informed. They even know us all by name which makes us feel very welcome. We no longer live in the area, but prefer to make the drive to New Smile Dental, passing numerous dental offices along the way. Overall, my appointments at New Smile Dental are always a pleasant experience. Even for a fraidy cat like me!

So I came in today at 9:30 for my appointmemt that I scheduled last Thursday. I asked front desk can I send my X-rays and Info via email she said bring it to my appointment. I patiently waited an hour because apprarently they had an emergency patient before me. Totally fine. During that time I gave the front desk my info. Dr Dounel comes in and says he can only take one wisdom tooth out because he doesn’t have time to do more than that. I was kind of shocked he said that, because I scheduled my appt and I already waited an hour. So I try being understanding and say ok to that. Then he doesn’t like my x rays and decides he wants to bill me for new ones. Then he says with my insurance to take ONE tooth out it’ll cost me $400 because I’m out of network. Lol I said what? No one has ever quoted me that much for an extraction. I have insurance. This all could have been avoided if front desk took my information over the phone and if the doctor didn’t schedule my appointment if he couldn’t even do the full procedure. Came to a dentist in Beverly HillsAnd with insurance out of network my total was $319 for BOTH bottom wisdom teeth!

A dentist who only thinks about money. Left me wating for almost one hour because he was extracting my teeth and treating another 2 pacients at the same time! He charges way more expensive than other dentists and after he extracted my teeth he didnt even seal the hole and left me and I never saw him again. I have been with many dentist and he was by far the worst Ive been treated. I dont recommend at all.

My daughter was the first to hear about Dr Dounel, and introduced him to our entire family. I was avoiding the dentist for a very long time.... i was very scared, and had a bad experience a few years ago. Over the weekend i came to bite into a sandwich and that was the end. My tooth pain gave me a really bad headache and i couldnt take it anymore. He was so kind and patient, cam e to the office just to help me. The cost was very cheap, and his work was painless, quick, and he even played music to keep me calm. He is a fabulous dentist, and i could see why he gets referred so much. I am grateful that he spent his time on a weekend to help me get out of pain.

I had my old feelings replaced by Dr. Dounel, he stated let me know if you feel pain. I raised my hand to let him know I felt pain. I told him the pain I felt and he stated he couldnt do anything about the pain, and continue to drill. His assistant kept sticking the suction stick in the back of my throat, blocking my air way. At the end when I was doing my bite test I informed him that the filling residua was still on the side of my teeth. He attempted to fix it but did not. During this time he states that he notice that he did not numb me well and next time he will numb me more. One my first visit to this office the staff and the doctor were nice an friendly, at this visit in question this was not the same case. When the doctor came in the room making general conversation, I could tell he was rushing or in a bad mood. I asked in concern if everything was okay, he stated yes. However my experience yesterday did not display that. I now have to go back to his office to have him re-fix the work that he just completed. I hope my next visit will be better. I will say that this office is a lot better than New Image Dental.

I had a wisdom tooth that had to be removed. Obviously I was terrified! lol As soon as I walked into their office I got this relaxing feeling... Beautiful waiting area! The office has a very young staff that was super friendly. They were able to answer questions I had from digital Xrays. I meet Dr. Michael and right away I loved his pro active attitude! He explained what to expect before the procedure. During the procedure I noticed how cautious he was applying the perfect pressure; but very confident, fast. I dont recommend going to this place. A week ago my husband went for pain on a tooth. He decided to get a tooth extraction. Everything was okay I guess my husband said it was super painful but thats not the worst part. After a week he was still in pain, he decided to use a tooth Pick to see if the doctor left any pieces of tooth b/c he was in so much pain..and he did dig up something white and super hard, maybe a piece of tooth or filling from his previous roots canal from that tooth. After removing that my him self pain went away so .DENTIST DIDNT DO A GOOD JOB.

My husband recommended New Smile because I was not happy with the other place that I was going to. New Smile is very clean the staff are very friendly, professional and most of all patient. Dr. Dounel is the kind of dentist that I have been looking for, he sits and talks with you, he listens and he is very patient with you. A very short story I havent been to the dentist since I was 17 because I had a really bad experience so I had literally a phobia of the dentist office I was extremely paranoid and scared and now I am 31 years old and he made a fool out of me because I just knew in my heart he was going to hurt me but OMG he was extremely amazing caring loving patient and very fast I just want everyone to go to him !! Ive always been afraid of having a wisdom tooth removed from all the horror stories Ive heard. I had a terrible toothache and was able to be seen here. They took care of me quickly and flawlessly with no pain. Walking out a happy man. Definitely returning for more work to be done.
