Absolutely killer LFS! very knowledgeable and very well-stocked with great items. flora & fauna are clearly thriving and gorgeous, and the hardscape they sell here is stunning. equipment and range of plants look fantastic - you can see they’re in great shape from the insane pearling. some style & guide books available as well that are super helpful + some beautiful tanks and terrariums.highly recommend! owner knows what he’s doing and is helpful to share information!

What a hidden gem!!!I love this place and never want to leave.There are so many beautiful tanks and bio worlds. Its like they transport you to a new world.I need to make room for more aquariums and then stock up from here.Many plants for aquariums, bogs and terrariums.Everything is maintained especially well and they have many young fish which I love. Then you get so see them grow up.

11/10 Amazing shop and owner - The owner is a super sweet man, really helpful in giving you advice on what you need for your aquarium. He had the chance to sell me some sand that I thought I needed, but he told me to put it back. He is genuinely passionate about his aquariums and I plan on getting all the supplies I need from him.

I purchased a fish about a week ago, Butterfly loach! Mind you, my tank was in healthy condition. I noticed the loach acting odd (it keeped rolling its self) as if it wanted to get something off of it. Now Im noticing white pimple spots. My whole tank is compromised! Ima go back and see his response soon. First time buyer for this store.

Awesome aquascaping store! One of the very few places that carries the ADA line. They also have UNS and a few other brands. They have a nice selection of tissue cultures in stock usually and a good selection of emeresed potted plants. Hardscape wise they have a decent selection of stones and driftwood. The live stock selection here is solid, all kinds of nano and community fish for planted tanks. Highly recommend anyone in the planted tank hobby make a visit, definitely worth the visit.

Purchased a school of endlers here and after almost a year they are thriving and look great. This store seems to be more for the intermediate/advanced fish keeper who knows exactly what they want and what they are doing. Every time I call or go in and purchase something I always get good customer service. This isnt petco so keep that in mind...youre not going to be greeted by 5 different people before you figure out what you want. All the tanks had healthy swimming happy fish, no dead fish in the tank (petco/petsmart). Just go in when you have a cycled tank and do your research on what you want/need before you go.

Warning TO Keep your receipts.Not the friendliest way to run a business when you purchase water filter, hose and plump. The. The hose didn’t fit, and I ask to exchange for something- $8.50 I wasn’t asking for the money back. I am sad, my needs were not meet. I can’t say the owners needs were meet either since he lost a costumer.Too bad for the local small business back to the larger more efficient ones.Anyone want to buy a standard airline tubing $8.50 best offer or plant or rock something for my grandson’s fishes ??

Store has a very nice selection of nano fish. I bought seven fish I was quarantining them in cycled tank and lost four of them over 3 days.The fish seemed rather young and when I asked the owner if they were hearty he assured me that they were. They seemed healthy so Im not sure if I just needed to acclimate them extra slowly but a loss of over 50% is pretty painful.Ill probably give the store another try and be extra careful with acclimating the fish because they do have a very nice selection which is hard to find.

I love this place! I started work planted tanks about 20 years ago and I must say that this store is one of the reasons. The beautiful displays there are breath taking and the selection of plants are awesome!The owner is not only knowledgeable but shares it with those that are both beginners and veterans.I definitely think this is the place that all freshwater planted tank owners should visit!

As a customer, you need to do your research Before you come in here because the owner is kinda grumpy and not particularly friendly or helpful. You also need to be careful and closely inspect any fish or plant you want to buy and make sure it’s healthy.Having managed a fish store myself, I know healthy fish and plants. I asked for six fish. He just caught whatever was easiest with no attention to the better looking fish. He gave me two half dead ones so I had to tell him to put them back and get two healthy ones. He did it without complaint, but I’m just saying you need to closely inspect the fish or else you’re going to get whatever he picks.All of the fish in his tanks have very pale color which is a sign of stress. Not sure what the issue is without testing his water, but something is wrong. I took the risk because I needed a rare micro Rasbora for my Nano and he’s the only store within 30 miles.Both plants I bought that he pulled at first were in rough condition. Again I had to ask him to change them. Just be careful.

I came here to see if they had hard scape materials for a planted tank Im starting and...WOW. There was everything I could imagine. Tons of rock and wood selections that I couldnt dream of at other stores. In addition, There were forests of planted tanks and some terrariums as well. So many plants! The fish tanks were well kept with plenty of variety. The owner ( Watanabe-san) was so helpful and friendly. I will be back soon for more! Thank you!

Small store located in the very middle of the plaza. Theres a few parking spots in the plaza but they are pretty compact. There is also metered parking along the street in case you cant find any parking.The store itself is clean with a good selection of reasonably priced fishes. However, I believe this store is more so specializes in aquatic plants. They have several aquarium on display that are spectacular to look at. The owner is also very knowledgeable and gives great advice, definitely not out to make money as we ended up not purchasing anything the first time we were there because he recommended we wait until our tank is ready for new fish. When we were able to purchase a fish, the little guy was very healthy and the water he came with was super clean.I noticed there were some complaints about customer service. I just see the owner as a grandfather-like figure explaining to you how to take care of your fish. Very direct, to the point, no fluff type of way. I dont mind it, but I can see how its not for everyone. Just a fair warning this isnt Petco.Overall, I love coming back to this aquarium. Things can be a little pricey, but I know these fishes and plants are healthy.

Beautiful shop with a great selection of nano aquarium compatible species of fish and plants. Exposition tanks are remarkable!Unfortunately the limited space forces the owners to resort to sub-optimal selling practices: fish are up for sale on the very day they get delivered and dont get the proper acclimation time. If sold the same day they have to adapt to new water condition twice the same day. Once when getting to the shop and once in your tank. Another consequence of this is that sick and parasite ridden animals dont die at the shop but make it straight to your tank. The last batch I got there was very disappointing with 5 dead the first week out of 7 fish. Thats 40+ dollars down the drain despite really perfect water parameters and otherwise healthy occupants.

If you are getting into planted aquariums, then this is the place to figure it out. Owner is super friendly and helpful. Always ready to help answer difficult questions. He will not walk around the store bugging you if you need help. He is always working and busy taking care of the shop. But if you go and ask him he will be more than helpful. Dont be shy to ask for help. His products are top of the line and he has everything you need to start you off right in the world of planted tanks. His display tanks are inspirational and beautiful.

I have bought fish from this store a few times now. They have a nice selection of fish and very beautifully decorated tanks.However, the last fish I got from them got sick with ich two days after I bought them and died soon after that. I isolated them early, and luckily it didnt spread to the rest of the tank.I called the store to let them know so they can be extra cautious and possibly medicate their tank. The owner was dismissive and said something must have been wrong with my tank because his fish were fine. I understand he can be skeptical, but he should not simply deflect the blame.

My kids wanted to start a natural aquarium. So after looking up on Yelp, we drove to Culver City from K-Town over the weekend to check out Nature Aquarium since the reviews were so great. The store was small but neat and well displayed. But unfortunately, we had a terrible experience with their customer service.When we asked for some help, the gentleman behind the counter was really rude and seemed annoyed. We were hoping for some guidance on what we need to get started, but he just pointed towards a tank and said that ones $1500 and waved us off. When I asked if he can give us more detailed information like what size tank, which substrate and plants, etc., he just gave us the what-more-do-you-want look. It was obvious that he wasnt interested in our business, so we walked out.Id hate to leave a negative review (especially for a small business), but my kids were discouraged and we were really disappointed by the store.I dont understand how this place received such great reviews. I wish we had met with Mr. Toru (I dont this was the person we met) that everyone speaks so highly about.

This is THE place to shop if youre a planted tank enthusiast. Toru-San is an Aqua Design Amano storefront, which means he has a plant selection second to none. The stock is all healthy, skewing toward plant-friendly species. Youll pay a little more, but its worth the price to get this sort of quality.

Best Aquarium shop Ive ever been to hands down.The owner is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Most other shops Ive been to spread misinformation, and often get confused whenever I bring up certain topics or need advice. I can bring up any sort of niche topic regarding fish, plants, invertebrates etc. and he already knows what Im talking about and has great input. He is also well versed in the art of aquascaping, has beautiful tanks, and gives good critiques on the designs of my tank layouts.The tanks are well cared for, the fish are healthy, the plant selection is top notch, and he stocks a range of products from Jebo to ADA so their are options based on your budget. Great selection of rare rocks, driftwood, and various specialty products. Hes even sold me a few used items at great prices that have held up very well. This is the only place Ive been to that hasnt at some point sold me a diseased fish, or plants that are covered in terrible algaes.I will say though that the saltwater selection is fairly limited but it is still quality.

Inside this tiny Tropical Fish store is full of great Nano Aquarium know how. I find almost everything I need to set up the perfect planted Aquarium. Warning the parking can be a mess. But its worth the drive from Studio City, and put up with the parking. Yes, I think this place is that good.

First time going today, just needed some new plants, driftwood, and maybe a few fish . This guy has a nice looking store and thing but he really needs to work on his friendliness. This is the first fish store I’ve been to where the guy working there told me to go to petco, he had a really bad attitude. He was trying to sell me things I already had and told me I didn’t have what I needed and also said I didn’t know anything . 100% there are a lot of other places to go in Los Angeles do I RECOMMEND NOT GOING HERE . He will waste your time if you don’t know exactly what you want . He won’t even have patience for someone who wants to take time picking out things.

Great place for aquascape, maybe not for fish. First time I visited this local shop I was amazed by the beautiful tank displays. I got a number of things, hardscape, plants and a few fish. One of the fish died within 24hrs despite having a healthy cycled tank and having acclimated them. I assumed it was just part of the course and gave the shop another chance. Second visit I only got fish and was instantly disappointed once I got home. A few of the fish were sick with ich, I quarantined them and dosed with ich medicine, two died by the next day, then another three today(Im down to 3 still sick fish). I am really disappointed and feel discouraged about visiting this shop again. As a comparison I visited petco a day later and got a set of 4 fish and the manager was uneasy about selling me the fish because two seemed very stressed. He ended up only charging me for the other two incase the two stressed fish did not make it. They are all perfectly healthy and living freely in my main tank while the ones I bought from nature aquariums are stuck in quarantine still sick with ich.

Everything he sells is pretty fresh and the fish are healthy. Need to check it out and support this merchant so our only options arent petsmart and petco....

This is probably one of the few only good aquatic shop in SoCal. The fish tanks and fishes there are kept in pristine quality. His sample aquascapes are beautifully cared for. There is nothing you can actually complain about this little shop. And did I forget to mention his shop is extremely clean!!Lots of ADA products as well! The shop owner will actually teach you if you have questions or concerns about your tanks. He does not give you attitude or make you feel like an idiot like most shop owners.Only downside is the strip mall he is located in. Parking is a little hard to find but well worth the wait and find.

Update 1/2019: So glad Mr. Toru has moved his shop and wisdom to lovely downtown Culver City on Venice Blvd. Easy to get to just off the 10 freeway. Strip mall parking. Same wonderfully healthy stock, CO2 refill service, and products. Obviously he had to restart a bunch of sample tanks with the move but they are already looking great and theres plenty to see. Mr. Toru is so kind and helpful. Our own planted tank, plants and fish are all thriving (2+ years on). He has helped us through the occasional fish or plant issue and has a ton of longstanding loyal customers. If you are new to this hobby, hes extremely willing to help you out if you approach and ask questions. Soon enough youll develop a relationship and an artful hobby. Know that this store is in LA and as such you may find a language or cultural difference infuses some of your interactions. Better to come visit than call. You wont be disappointed with your trip or the great new location. The store is more than fair priced for the city and it feels good to give him your business.Original: Great owner, shop and product. I took one star off my review because the prices are relatively high. However, every fish weve gotten there has been healthy, and has settled in to our tank much better than thise from chain stores such as Petco. Unless you really care about supporting local businesses, it probably too pricy to come here for basic supplies, but certainly worth it for fish (especially the rarer and/or more expensive species) and for ADA products!

Probably the best Aquscaping fish store I have been in. I do have to say that this store targets the needs for a very small sub category within the fish keeping community. If you dont know what aquascaping is, probably not the best store to do your first time tank shopping. :) Having said that, If you are into plants and aquascapes you will be happy with the selection of products/livestock. Mr.Toru (I hope I spelled it right) is very friendly and knowledgeable. If you are new to the hobby, I encourage you to come in and see the beautiful art form of Aquascaping.

I love Nature Aquarium! Mr. Toru is a wealth of knowledge about planted tanks and has been incredibly helpful to me since I first fell down this rabbit hole four years ago. He has a fantastic eye for design and I believe he mentioned he even worked with Amano himself! Over the years I have purchased everything from him: a custom tank, co2 supplies, lights, hardscape, fish, plants, ferts. while some of these reviews complain that his prices are a bit high, I would just like to point out that he really does offer a higher quality of product than most pet stores. That said, he is also been understanding when I come in with a budget and has helped me work within that. As for the reviews that suggest that Mr. Toru is dismissive or rude, I cant even imagine that. All I can say is perhaps you get what you give as I have found him to be so kind and generous with his time, especially in my newbie days when I would occasionally stop in just to get advice. If you are serious about this particular aquarium niche, Mr. Toru is your man!

5 year long customer. High prices. Be intelligent. For general hardware and cheap fish, hit Petsmart. For reverse osmosis water, super healthy fish, exotic shrimp and gorgeous invertebrates, Nature Aquarium has it.Excellent advice, just not warm and fuzzy about it. If youre new to the hobby and you want to start cheap, just go for advice and inspiration.If youre looking to install a piece of art into your life, this guy will get you there.

This place is terrible!! I went in to inquire about buying fish and a tank. I was ready to make a large purchase. The sales person was on the phone, obviously a personal call and just ignored me. I walked around the store thinking that he would hang up to help me. But he didnt. I went to dinner and came back and the door was wide open and the sales person was no where to be found. I could have taken the tank and as many fish as I wanted and no one would have ever been the wiser. I called a couple days later to tell the manager of the store about this but the man who answered the phone refused to let me speak to him.

This store is stocked with some of the more rare species of freshwater fish and aquatic plants available to the aquatic hobbyist. However, expect to pay as much as 3 times the price for rare fish and plants and over twice the price for even the most common fish and plants. The price for a common fish like neon tetras was almost three dollars a fish once tax is factored in, which is a fish that can be easily found elswhere for about one dollar per fish. This is significant because small fishes like tetras require that you purchase at least 6-8 fish for even the smallest of tanks which adds up substantially to the overall purchase. Furthermore, the owner is an overall friendly person, but doesnt go out of his way to give stellar customer service, regardless of his inflated prices. I dont mind paying more at a locally owned business, just as long as there is customer courtesy and service to justify the added cost. With that said, the owner is very knowledgeable with information he has aqcuired through extensive experience in the aquarium trade. Overall, I feel this is a good store to visit if your trying to find hard to find fish and aquatic plants and are prepared to pay a significantly higher price. However, I cannot recommend this store for the more common species of fish and plants that can be easily aqcuired elsewhere at a signficantly lower cost. I understand the aquarium hobby is not a cheap one, but that doesnt mean one has to accept exorbitant prices as a result.

After bad experience with sick fish from other stores, including Petco, I decided to make this place as my #1 place for live stocks. Toru has great selections of rare fish like Green Neon Tetras. Ive to say that the price is a bit pricey, but well worth it for high quality fish and plants.Also, probably the best place to go if youre planning to set up a planted tank/aquascape.

Most of the products are high grade, and slightly pricey, and are geared towards those who are serious about the hobby. Super expensive. Fishes are not well kept. The guy who was there was completely and utterly rude with no costumer service skills. They dont have much to offer but some of their tanks do have some beautiful auqascaping. Overall if you want to be treated well and not have to over pay go else where.
