Mr. John Kim at National Study Academy was HIGHLY referred to me for Algebra 2 tutoring for my son and after hiring him and seeing the immediate progress in my son, now I know why. Mr. Kim doesnt just teach my son Algebra, he helps him understand how to approach math problems, problem solving, AND better study habits. He met with my husband and I before we started sessions to share his approach to tutoring and what to expect. After just four sessions, my son got an A on his exam (after C or lower on the last few!) I was impressed and appreciate Mr. Kims positive attitude and sincere desire to help my son do well. He has given my son a much-needed confidence boost that I am sure will see him passing with flying colors this semester. Math is by far the most difficult subject to teach. Not only do you have to be good at it, you also have to be able to teach it in a way that kids enjoy the subject and look forward to learning it. Mr. Kim has this gift. He has been teaching my 10 year old son since 2022 and I could not have anyone better to cultivate my sons love of math. Under Mr. Kims tutelage, my son has become so good at Math that he is now starting Algebra II. Since studying with Mr. Kim, my sons MAP Math scores are consistently in the 99% percentile. He is kind and uses humor to connect with his students. I would give him 10 stars in a heartbeat!

Mr. Kim is amazing at what he does. I always have a good time learning with him. He is very punny and loves math. I was super stressed about how to do my work, but with a big lesson of previewing material the difficulty was less pronounced. Great Math and SAT tutor for our daughters. Within just a month, Mr. Kim has done an excellent job transferring knowledge and discussing effective study habits with me. He makes valuable use of the one-on-one time that tutoring provides, and he creates a space that encourages me to ask questions that cater to my specific weaknesses. I started out barely grasping Calculus 1 and barely remembering Math 3 H from more than a year of online learning, but now thanks to Mr. Kim, my algebra has improved tremendously and I’m on the route to tackling the next level of Calculus.

We have used Mr. Kim services for years. He is great in what he is doing. He taught my older son math in high school and helped him to get A in his pre calculus and AP calculus after my son failed his first exam. He is also helping my second son in high school in math and SAT preparation. He explains the material in a way make the students get it easily and he has great sense of humor. My children and I appreciate so much Mr. Kim hard work and commitment to helping them improving their grades and their SAT scores. I highly recommend Mr. Kim.

Mr. Kim has helped both of my children who have very different learning styles as well as an adult in my family. He focuses on individual needs and goals and goes above and beyond to personalize lessons for them. He makes their success his #1 priority and adds in a few dad jokes along the way. Mr. Kim provides fantastic math tutoring for SAT and SAT subject tests. He runs very structured tutoring sessions where he helps students better understand SAT material. He is extremely kind and polite and I always came out of the sessions feeling much more confident in my abilities in math. After sessions with Mr. Kim I received a perfect score on SAT Math 2 subject test and 10 points off perfect on the regular SAT Math portion. I highly recommend Mr. Kim and The Study Room.

All three of my children worked with Mr. John Kim, throughout high school. Sometimes they needed extra help with higher level math and sometimes it was ACT or SAT prep. He is caring, kind, funny and inspired my kids to keep working and improving their skills. He believed in their abilities, which allowed them to believe in themselves. He has the ability to quickly hone in on what the student needs, and time is never wasted. We owe much to the guidance of Mr. Kim. I highly recommend John Kim for prepping your child for either the SAT or ACT. He is patient and kind but yet has high expectations. He is motivating and enjoyable to work with for the students and the parents. Additionally to assisting students with increasing their overall scores, he helps them achieve good study habits, helping them also be more responsible. Mr. Kim is an amazing tutor who I studied with for about three years. Mr. Kim helped me receive all As in my math class during high school, including AP Calculus. Additionally, my original score for the PSAT was 1440 but after studying with Mr. Kim, I raised my final score to 1950, with my math score increasing dramatically.Mr. Kims tutoring service is excellent. His lessons are very entertaining, and fast pace. He goes beyond by meeting each student at their academic level and challenges them to push beyond. Mr. Kim taught me how to think critically. These lessons helped me in class, but also were very applicable while I applied to colleges, and in my college classes.I highly recommend Mr. Kims tutoring services, because he finds the source of the students problem and helps the students solve the issues behind their problems. Mr. Kim taught me to push beyond my fear and find confidence in an academic setting, a skill which is not taught in school. My daughter is going on her fourth week of tutoring with John and so far I am starting to see some confidence in my daughter with her math. My daughter has struggled with math her whole academic life, shes a junior now. Weve worked with many tutors prior to working with John and I am very pleased with his style of teaching. My daughter loves the one on one experience, the magic tricks in between problems to keep the energy light & looks forward to attending every session. I worked with National Study Academy from my freshman year of high school through senior year for on and off math tutoring. Mr. Kim is so accommodating to every student’s individual schedules and needs and goes above and beyond to help his in any and every way he can. He is always willing to work with you to find what method and learning style works best for you as an individual. There is absolutely no way I would have done well in my AP Calculus classes without his help. I also did ACT/SAT prep work with him, and with his tutoring I improved my math score 6 points between my first and second time taking the ACT.

During my Covid senior year, my calculus teacher at high school couldn’t make the final month of school, so Mr. Kim came in as a long term sub and made the calculus experience amazing for all the students. My oldest son is a Sophomore at the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU) and my daughter is currently a junior at Ventura High School.Not only does he have a comprehensive program that sets the client up for success with the SATs and ACTs, he also develops a great rapport with the student, as an individual, that contributes to instilling the motivation to reach the set personal goal. I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Kim for around 3 years of my high school career and I can confidently say that his help is what allowed me to excel in my math courses. With his aid, I was able to successfully make it to the hardest math available at my high school—AP Calculus BC and receive good marks on my transcript for it. He is also excellent with helping on exams like the SAT and the ACT. He creates an environment that is both professional and welcoming and strives to make his students feel comfortable in their learning environment. Without his help, I would not have passed math class, or received my diploma.I started at SBCC after graduating and continued seeing Mr. Kim for my Junior College math requirements. Occasionally we would work until midnight prior to tests, midterms and final exams. He was truly invested in making sure I passed the class and would do whatever was necessary to assure I excelled. I would not have passed those two junior college math courses without his dedication to tutoring me.I then transferred to the University of Alabama. While taking the absolute last required math course of my life – during my last semester of college, I found myself needing Mr. Kim one more time. Not only did I need to pass the course, but I wanted to pass with an A in order to keep my GPA up. Immediately, Mr. Kim went out of his way to set up “Skype” sessions multiple times a week. He met with me virtually any time, sometimes as early as 5:30 a.m. California time. This was at a time before “Zoom” and “Facetime” were common used methods of meeting. I was his “first skype student.”After graduating with a 4.0 from the University of Alabama (thanks to Mr. Kim!), Mr. Kim attended my college graduation party. At this point I was 24 years old and had been tutored by Mr. Kim off and on for 8 years. I was so happy to introduce him to my family and close friends because at this point, everyone needed to meet the man behind the curtain.After graduation, I considered going to law school. I again consulted with Mr. Kim for advice. As always, he was very instrumental in helping with my decision. We actually met a few times when I was studying for the LSAT. He went out of his way to learn about what the exam entailed. Mr. Kim arranged for me to come to his house for a proctored study time twice a week. We again met through Skype for a couple study sessions on my lunch break at work.Now, I am a successful paralegal, married, and have a 7 month old son. I would call Mr. Kim and I great friends. It is so wonderful to have a pillar beside me. Mr. Kim will always be a part of my life. Maybe one day, he will be tutoring my son!He has truly a sweet heart and it shows through his gentle style. I was able to improve my test scores by over 10%! For me this was huge as it allowed me to be accepted into my dream school and save a fortune on tuition. Before Mr. Kim and National Study Academy Math was like an alien language to me. Something entirely hopeless and hard on the ears. I was incredulous to the idea I could ever excel in mathematics let alone enjoy the process of learning them so I continued on my path of pitiful performance and understanding.But after a bit of convincing from my sister who had been a student of Mr. Kim’s years before, I decided that’d I’d give trying to broaden my horizons a other shot with a new instructor where previous teachers had lacked.In doing so I would find that the seemingly “magical” teaching ability of Mr. Kim my older sister had raved about was really deserving of such Its title. Since I have begun to see Mr. Kim I have seen not only a more than significant increase in my over all grade but an unfounded understanding of Math and it’s underlying concepts.
