I’ve gone to this “hero’s mountain or aka mount Miguel mountain hike “ more than once on this specific day I decided to come alone . I had never seen a rattlesnake or a snake in person in my life while hiking . 🥾 of course I thought it was symbolic to find one the one time I’m alone . I was hiking with no music to be aware of my surroundings. In my personal opinion I think if others were to hike alone then to stay alert of your surroundings and try to be in the moment by having no music .i do believe I was aware and found the snake 🐍 in my path because I was silent 🤫 able to hear all around me . Will I go back on this hike yes . I know how to be safe and I just hope you all can take my advice to be safe too please !

This mountain was quite a challenge to take on, and yet was an incredible experience. This is a fantastic workout with a breathtaking view. If you have not gone before then you should start by setting a hiking date, THIS IS A MUST DO!!!

It was a perfect day for a hike. There were very few people on this day. My ultimate goal was to place a small American flag with inscription, Baltimore Strong, in support of the city after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. After retiring from the US Navy after 30 years of dedicated service in 2018, I called Maryland my second home.

Good quick dog friendly hike (4.4 miles) that starts from this neighborhood and goes up the mountain. The path has been traveled by too many people not following the signage or fence lines creating alternative paths or “shortcuts” which ruins the environment and terrain for any wildlife.

Always a great local hike right in the neighborhood! It’s tough but doable, even for kids. I love getting a picture at the top. The hike back down is a breeze. Give yourself about an hour round trip to complete. Parking at the park is easy and always available.

I regret not wearing proper hiking boots. Its slippery from all the small rocks and gravel going down the steep trail. It was confusing at first to stay on trail since there arent many marks. I guess you walk in a zigzag direction until it gets more steep uphill and than walk straight up to the top. The view up there is worth it. And would be perfect for a picnic date. I seen many small children doing this hike so its not too bad as long as you got the proper hiking shoes.

Nice hike. No shade so bring a hat, sunglasses and wear sunscreen. Pretty steep from the get-go, then it levels off a bit, then it gets super steep again. At the top you can see the flags and a beautiful view of SD. Lots of crawlers like lizards, spiders and snakes. Lots of birds and flowers right now. The trail is a bit messy but they have put up signs that you can follow. Watch your step, Lots of Ricks especially going back when the mountain, yet to take tour time so you dont slip. Family friendly and dog friendly. Lots of nice people on this trail. Its never too crowded.

One of the amazing hiking we been in San Diego. Difficulty wise it can be moderate to hard, if u have some experience in hiking consider it has moderate else hard. If u hike on early morning you get nice view on top. You can see Mexico from top.

Peaceful hike along the side of the mountain which had lots of switch backs but you could easily walk straight up not realizing your not on the path but on a wash out. Your supposed to stay on the trail and not cut through but at times I found myself cutting through by accident. No shade except a little spot towards the beginning mostly shrubs the whole way. Very rocky, sandy loose path so wear good shoes which I’d recommend hiking boots. Not stroller friendly, take water especially if hiking during the daytime. No benches to sit and rest. My black pants and boots were very dusty so don’t wear something nice or something you don’t want to get dirty. Definitely don’t wear sandals! Saw birds, lizards and another hiker saw a rattlesnake. Took bout 2 hours but I take lots of pictures. Would not recommend for kids that aren’t use to hiking, elderly people or someone thats can tire easily. Also lots of mountain bikers and one came flying down the trail so be on the lookout as he did not seem to care if there was people on the trail.

There’s no shade on this hike so wear a hat.Watch out for rattlesnakes we heard a ton of them along the hike but they weren’t on the path.It’s all incline going up and it’s very rough terrain so wear hiking shoes.Keep in mind the elevation!!!

This is a fun trail, switches back and forth though there is erosion which makes parta of the trail harder to navigate without going off trail. The trail is very clean and a bit busy. The views are gorgeous. Not bad for an out and back hike in a city.

This is a wonderful part for all our family. I normally play with my family softball and they do have several leads that you can play with. And Im only open during the week and also they have different schedules for the game so if you want to get involved in one. Other than that is a beautiful place to just come and pass the day, picnic, running, walking, walking your dog of course in a leash as well as their small park on the side where you can actually have your dog without the leash. all in all my son and I and my family enjoy this park especially for the closest of the mountain that he usually hikes all the time.

A decent hike with a rigorous 2 1.75 mile incline. Great views once youre at the top but the trails are thrashed, not well marked, many cut-in un-authorized shortcuts confuses the hike and very rough, loose and jagged rocks make it unenjoyable on the way to and from the top. There isnt much nice looking vegetation at the top & its almost like an offroad area by the looks of it. But...Once there at the top, the views are amazing, especially at sunset and I would assume Sunrise as well. We did catch it on a foggy or hazing day though this time. About a 4 mile round trip huffing it on the way up due to the steep incline. Watch for the Rattlesnakes. There were two on our hike end of Sept. Right along side close to the trail. Even at night. Enjoy!

Great scenery the whole way. At 4.5 miles total it was moderate difficulty; the beginning steep and definitely got the heart rate up but then the rest was not bad. Although going back down was slippery and not as easy as anticipated so be careful. The rock pile at the top was cool to see and take pictures of, and two bodies of water could be seen from the top. Dogs are allowed, which was nice, and there were other people, but it wasnt too crowded. We went around 6ish and the weather was perfect, but we still brought plenty of water.

Great spot to hike with the family. Amazing views of South San Diego. We went in the late afternoon so it was not too hot. If you go during midday be sure to bring lots of water and wear sunblock. Dogs are OK as long as they are on a leash. Please be respectful to mountain bikers who share the trail with you.

Absolutely beautiful hike. If you are a beginner......Takes about 35-45 minutes to get to the top. Going up is pretty simple. coming down, there are a few steep spots. But, if you walk slow, it is fine.Make sure to bring water. And hiking boots really help for this hike.

Love South Bay and this wonderful mountain! Once you get to the top you will be amazed by the views of all of San Diego. This hike doesnt have much shade, make sure to go when its not too warm and take enough water. The trailhead is in a residential area please be mindful of the residents.

Amazing hike in Chula Vista. Lovely views of down town SAN Diego and the Pacific Ocean. Moderate traffic on a Sunday at 9am. Lots of switchbacks, rocks on the trail, wear good shoes. Medium difficulty.

One of my favorite trials in San Diego. Its about 4.5 miles in total. It can be pretty steep at times and there have often been rattle snakes on the trial. I highly suggest wearing hiking boots for better footing. Dogs are allowed on leash. The view is obviously gorgeous and so worth it.

Great hike for the whole family. It will make you sweat but our kids ran ahead almost the entire time! We saw one person biking up! There are no steep drops so this is a great trail for little kids. The trail took us three hours to complete, however we did take a wrong path to the other car park and back since there are several directions to take after you leave the car park.See carefully my photos to see what the beginning of the trail looks like. Do not follow the largest road since that takes you to the other car park! For clues look where the other people are on the mountain and go towards that path :)Be warned, It was very very windy today in January and a good jumper/coat is warranted or even ear muffs.

I would say this is a beginners/intermediate hike. Its fairly short but there are some steep parts that take your breath away for a few seconds. The view is beautiful! There is lots of parking too.

Its a nice and short hike around 4 miles. Theres switchbacks and good incline. Dog friendly too. Great view at the top and seems pretty busy all the time. Ive been there at sunset and on a holiday and both times there was a good amount of foot traffic.

This hike leads to the flag over Eastlake not the summit of my Miguel as thats closed now. Great easy/begginer hike. Parking is easy entrance is accessible. Difficult to stay on exact path as it is unclear in some areas. Hiked it with my three kids and two dogs.

If you have never tried it, let me introduce you to Chula Vistas own butt-kicking mountain trail! The picture is when you go left from the start (smooth, perfect for a short nature walk). The real mountain trail is quiet different. I dont want to run the suspense... But lets just say that it is steep for the majority of the hike. Hiking shoes or runners with good grip is a must. 👍 But once you reach the top, the view is breath taking!!!

Pretty nice, sweet short hike. You can either go the very steep route and save time or follow the normal path and have a chill, longer hike. Youll definitely get your shoes very dusty though so at least wear socks that will cover your ankles, otherwise youll be scrubbing for a while in the shower.

Its a great place to meet friends or make new ones. It is moderately to very strenuous.There are bathrooms and water at the park at the bottom.Do not forget to take at least 2- 16 oz bottles of water, if you havent done this before.There are at least 3 false summits. It gets really hot while climbing. Take breaks. If you feel dizzy or tingly, Stop, Tell someone, Drink water and Rest. When you feel better, go back. There are amazing views all along the trail, so you dont have to go all the way to the summit to see amazing things. Work up to it, make that your future goal.Pace yourself. Have fun!

Pretty good hike. Its an in and out trail generally. Technically you can extend it through Sweetwater but few do. The view is nice at the top. Note its been getting more popular, so come early or late. Make sure to stay on trail and not trailblaze.Beside the view at the top, there isnt much vegetation or interesting wildlife. Id consider it a solid hike and can be knocked out in about an hour.

Great hike! Clean! The path you take to get to the trailhead isn’t labeled, so that’s a bit confusing. But once you reach the trailhead everything is labeled super clearly! We saw dogs, bikes, horses, and kids! Our dog loved it! FYI- NO SHADE! Like, at all! Other than that, no issues and we enjoyed it! Took us about 45 minutes to get to the top. We aren’t the fastest or the slowest. I would say moderately challenging!

Trail has a lot of erosion due to people making short cuts to get to the top quicker, which causes trail damage, plant destruction and there is no longer a path to follow.

Great trail, no people after we hit summit. We did the whole loop, terrible graveltopped 1/2 mile stretch. Almost bitten by huge rattlesnake on back half of trail. It gave no warning rattle until I was on top of it, my hiking stick blocked the strike thank the LORD.

This was my first time at this place,I love hiking and do it when i have the time.I saw a wild cat!I had to cut this hike short bc of it, i saw it looking at me we were several feet away I thought it was skunk or something bc it looked black small but then it turned to look at me and it was looking and i made a u turn started running for my dear life an all these horrible images starting popping in my head it as bad lolBut overall it was a beautiful place and a thrilling experience

Very dusty and has different switchbacks. Some areas of the trail are susceptible to erosion so it is really important to stay on the trails and not step over the barriers designated by rocks. Thanks for staying on the trail!
