Fantastic experience! They got me in right away. Ralph was very helpful. They sent me a full inspection report with items that were good, need repair in future, and need repair immediately and then reviewed it with me. I felt like they were extremely honest and upfront with reasonable pricing. I would recommend Moonlight Motors :)

Came for air suspension alert in my GC trailhawk and a leak from the bottom of the car . The diagnostic was detailed and in digital form with pictures but lacking explanation in person of urgency of repair / can I wait with some items etc.. Instead of a mechanics talking to me it seemed like someone was just reading to me what the mechanics diagnosed . On top of that they couldn’t fix my air suspension (dealership needed for it ), I expected full service, And after 265$ diagnostic cost I need to pay again at the dealership (they could tell me in advance that some things they cannot repair, like nitrogen refill).Cost is too range, quoted 2800$, Another mechanics charged 1600$.So might be a good mechanics, But prices are very high and they cannot do full service .

Recently went the Moonlight Motors for an oil change and I’m very impressed and pleased with the service I received. The two women working the front desk were soooo nice and welcoming. The oil change itself didn’t take long at all and they sent me an overall report of my car to let me know about any other problems I had which was very nice of them and convenient for me lol. Definitely will be coming back to Moonlight Motors when I need help again!

I have 2012 Mercedes Benz. I lost my husband a few years ago and income shrunk in half, I couldnt afford to take it to the dealer. I have been taking it to a couple of independent shops specialize in German cars. I never felt that I found the home for my car for all repairs until I went to Moonlight Motors. My friends Laurie, Dennis Kushner referred me there. I talked to Ralph and made an appointment for transmission service the next day. I didnt have a ride home and Ralph took me home and picked me up in my car. He was very friendly and personable. I ended up paying a lot less than he originally quoted and that mad me even more a happy customer. Im going to refer Moonlight Motors to everybody I run into from now on. Thank you.

Moonlight Motors goes above and beyond everytime I take my car in. They let me know what is happening at every step of the process. They do a beautiful job with repairs, they are incredibly thoughtful. When I was sick and couldn’t get there to pick up my car, they brought it to me at home. The customer service is truly amazing. No need to go anywhere else. I trust them completely. They are all great!

Front desk lady was so nice!But the report about the cars condition was very strange. The cabin air filter was considered dirty based on the mileage, not the actual condition 🤯 Also, the beefy tires with 18,500 miles on them were considered low profile 🫠This seems like a useless and misleading car inspection.

Had a battery/charging issue on my 2016 F150. Did everything I knew to troubleshoot the problem so thought it was something major. I had Moonlight Motors perform major 100k maintenance about six months ago and they did a great job at a reasonable price. Decided to bring it back for this electrical issue and was expecting to replace an alternator or something major. They found it was a fuse that I had overlooked and solved the issue. Thanks for your honesty. Will be back for my next repair or maintenance.

I love taking my vehicles to Moonlight Motors. They provide one of the best multi point inspection with every oil change and have the BEST customer service.I’ve always felt like they have been honest with me which is rare. I have not experienced this at the Toyota dealership or other service shops. I know my way around a car so I can quickly sense when I’m being hustled. Moonlight never attempts to push me for unnecessary service, although they will likely recommend to replace anything with the smallest leak.

Ryli and Moonlight Motors saved our family vacation! We were driving from LA to San Diego for a few days vacation when my car started experiencing some issues. So many shops were closed for the holidays or booked out for weeks but I spoke with Ryli and she fit us in next day. Not only were we able to get our car fixed in one day, they were also very helpful in helping navigate another adjacent issue that happened due to our unexpected car issue; transportation with car seats as we have two young children. Ryli offered a solution that allowed us to immediately have transportation, using our own car seats. The best customer service I have experienced in a long time! If we didn’t live so far, this would become my regular shop to take my car to! Thank you to everyone at Moonlight Motors, but especially Ryli for saving our family vacation!

Staff was friendly, however I had a stripped screw for a roof rack to be taken out and was charged an hour worth of labor for the one screw. 139 bucks seems crazy. I went here because of the reputation but I had called around other shops to get an estimate for the work I needed done and it was cheaper elsewhere by approx 250 bucks but figured since the reviews were so strong I’d give moonlight a shot. After inspection I was quoted 17k for (all the repairs) my vehicle would need. In that quote a 40 dollar gasket piece would cost e 2700 dollars in labor. As I said, nice people but left feeling a bit robbed and also glad I was able to get my car out of there before being hit with more excessive labor charges.

Our car died near here and since they had such great reviews we towed it there. We couldnt have been happier and sad with our decision. The happy part is they took the time and energy to figure out what was wrong with it. Then Riley talked us through all our options but the sad part is because the car was old it was a goner. Riley gave us options of what we could do with the dead car as well. She did all of this with us living far away from here and we are so grateful for all their hard work and help. This is an update to my previous posting in the past. I continue to find this establishment to be on the BEST I have ever used. The service is OUTSTANDING. They always text me when my car or my sons car is due for service. They have a great system that shows me what repairs need to be done now and what can be put off. The accommodate my busy schedule. They stand by their work. For three years in a row my air conditioner, which was under warranty, died in August due to a parts malfunction. It was promptly fixed at no cost to me reach time. I really value high level communication, price transparency and honest work. As a woman who knows NOTHING about this stuff, I am so grateful to have a place to take my car where the services are explained in plain english and for which I can trust the outcome.

Ive been consistently returning to Moonlight Motors for years. I live down the road and feel very fortunate to be a customer here. Theyre not just convenient and local, they do an incredible job and really work with me in regard to my budget by prioritizing repairs and maintenance. Ken, Rylie, Donna, and Marty are all so kind, honest, and efficient. They always get the job done and communicate if anything comes up during the process. I have definitely brought in some questionable, rusty, and otherwise frustrating vehicles and they are always happy to work with me and tell me exactly what they are doing and why.My knowledge of vehicles in general, vehicle maintenance, and vehicle repair has increased greatly since working with Moonlight. Specifically, Ken is always willing to give me extra time and attention. In fact I just stopped by to triple check my accuracy in measuring my transmission fluid levels. Very basic to a mechanic or anyone who works with cars but he showed and explained the process clearly, leaving me capable to check the levels on my own with full confidence. The key was to check it in neutral, not park.Oh and lastly their online vehicle and brake inspection reports are so useful and legible. Great way to see the overall health of your vehicle and keep tabs on what is functioning well and what may need to be repaired soon.Thank you!!!

Very happy with Moonlight. First I brought in my older Mercedes and they were absolutely the best. They were precise, timely, efficient and very customer centric. More recently, I brought in my 2015 Audi S5. The service hadn’t changed at all. They were all top notch, from the front office to the repair shop. I was impressed with their exceptional communications. This is a good group;, honest, trustworthy and they stand behind their work. Oh…I forgot to mention, the pricing. In my opinion, Marty and team are the best in Encinitas, and for that matter North County et al. I continue to write reviews for Moonlight motors now for over 10 years after being treated poorly by another shop, was referred to Marty by a good friend. We currently have 6 cars in our household children going to college seem to add cars to the fleet. All of my vehicles are serviced at Moonlight motors, unless it is a warranty issue from dealer. Moonlight motors is not inexpensive,, but always fair and always less than the dealer and zero hassle you get with a dealer service staff upselling. I have learned the hard way in the past with mechanics and plumbers, you are going to get what you pay for. It it is my responsibility to ask questions and understand what repairs need to be done on these complicated machines. Marty will tell you hard truth sometimes, when an oil change turns into a CV boot and unexpected brake job. But Never a hard sell. I have come to trust that Marty and his team would not advise work, especially safety related issues, if it were not work that really needs to be done. With 3 kids away at school driving cars, I am grateful to have a top shelf shop close to home where I can always get an appointment for service within a reasonable time even over the holidays when the kids cars are in town and need service. I hope that Marty and Moonlight motors are around for many years to come. When their mechanics to an inspection, you get a link sent to you so you can see all of their recommendations along with pictures of what the mechanics saw and notes from them associated with each item. I had a great experience with Moonlight Motors. Granted I only needed an oil change, so it wasnt anything too complicated. When I scheduled the appointment, they told me to be ready to leave my car for half a day. However, when I got there and Marty heard that I was only visiting the area for a few days, he managed to fit it in to finish within 1-1.5 hours. They then sent me the breakdown of their inspection with explanations of what is more and less important, and called me up to ensure that I understood. Overall they were patient and friendly, and I appreciate it. Thank you!

I went to Moonlight Motors to get a second opinion on a car issue I’ve been having. When I arrived the front desk staff was very welcoming, nice, and communicative about what to expect price-wise for a diagnostic and wait time. The wait was a little long, but as it turns out my car had more problems than expected. They broke the news to me gently that my engine would need to be replaced. But instead of pushing me to get it fixed, they gave me other options and suggestions about next steps for my car. I was really appreciative of how nice and informative they were when talking about my car! Will definitely be coming back for future car needs! Would recommend to a friend as well. And big plus is that they’re located close to the beach!

Unfortunately, I asked for a semi-synthetic oil change (twice) and they still did a synthetic oil change instead and I was charged over double the cost I was told on the phone and what the coupon I brought in said it would be. I’m disappointed because I thought I was very clear, and when I dropped my car off I asked why the cost was higher than I had expected, they said the coupon would be applied at the end, but when I went to pick it up it was the synthetic cost.

Riley and Ken were friendly, professional and customer focused. I stopped in around noon on a recent Tuesday for an estimate to get the serpentine drive belt replaced on my 2007 Toyota Prius. I am pleased to have found Moonlight Motors. One of my cars was due for a tow to the shop I was using about a year ago. The salt of the earth AAA driver said next time take it to Moonlight Motors, I have been to several shops with my four vehicles over the past dozen years. Something was just missing from most of the those previous experiences. Like the sense of trust that can only develop when it is genuine.I have developed a genuine trust in Moonlight Motors. My father used to work on the family cars and he passed on to me the ability to do many of the basic maintenance procedures but with todays cars it rapidly becomes impossible to get very deeply into maintenance without computerized analysis and specialized tools. For that reason I am pleased that I have found Moonlight not only because they are factory trained in every vehicle type that I have thrown at them including foreign and domestic cars but also because they do things right without breaking the bank.It is good advice to find a good mechanic that you can trust. Happily, I have found Moonlight Motors. Marty and Adam run a tight ship and I trust them.Every time that I drive out of their shop I have been pleased not only with the performance of my vehicle but with the sense of genuine trust that can not be fabricated.I confidently recommend them.

My husband took his SUV in one morning last week for what he thought was a necessary brake replacement (BTW, weve been using MM for our service needs for 4 or 5 different cars over ~10 years). As someone who runs his own business, I was so so impressed with Moonlight Motors! They are hard working, honest, super friendly and easy to work with. It is clear they care about their customers even more than making a $. I brought my truck in because I thought I was experiencing a similar pattern I had previously ignored, which resulted in me needing to replace my rotors and break pads. I worn the rotors so far down, they couldnt be machined and had to be replaced. So, after seeing a similar pattern and hearing what I thought was grinding, I took my truck in expecting to hear how much was wrong with it and what I would owe them...They test drove it, took the brakes apart and couldnt find an issue. Our first experience with Moonlight Motors was this past spring when we took a trip to Mexico (14 hours drive) and had car trouble. Our friends and their families have been going to Moonlight for 15 years and now I know why. They called Adam numerous times to try to diagnose why the SUV would only start intermittently. We finally figured out that rats had eaten part of the wiring harness and it was shorting out (funny how no issues on the way down? Go figure.).So we worked with a local shop to get it patched up for the long ride home and it made it flawlessly (Im talking about an older SUV with over 250k miles on it that is maintained at Moonlight).When I say we were on the phone with Adam interrupting his workday I mean like 10 times with no issues just thoughtful help.When we got back they diagnosed the portion of the harness and got it fixed by the insurance company. We now take all 5 of our cars to Moonlight Motors for great service.I can’t thank the team from Moonlight Motors enough for the attention to detail and caring nature of their organization. Adam is great. Marty is great. The front office staff are first class (I only know some of their names) and the technicians are perfect.They prepared my son’s older Tacoma for our drive back to CO for school like they were doing it for their own kid. It ran flawlessly and I know I can always call the shop for advice. What an amazing experience! Marty not only took great care of my car and was very strait forward with what was needed, he went above and beyond! First, my check engine light was on and they didnt find any reason why, so he called the dealer himself and was able to diagnose the problem. Then, my tire key was missing and he took it upon himself to drive to the tire store where they had replaced my tires to find it, which of course was literally a needle in a haystack, so he chose to go directly to the dealer to find the master key and purchased new bolts so I dont have to worry about it again in the future. The people at Moonlight are awesome! Heres why...I took my SUV in for an oil change, which they had done previously on this vehicle and my truck for several years prior, without any problem. This time, the day after I had the oil changed, it leaked out a good bit at my storage facility, but I was busy unloading stuff and didnt notice. The next morning I go back to the storage unit and the guy at the front desk says he was about to call to notify me that my vehicle had leaked a good bit of oil in the parking lot. I was surprised and concerned so I went straight to my vehicle and checked the dipstick; there was one drop of oil on the very end. Pretty much all the oil had leaked out and I couldnt start the vehicle without fear of seizing up the engine. Of course the first assumption is to blame the guys that did the oil change. The age old thought process of you had it last, you broke it But since Id never had an issue with their work, I did my best to quell that thought and called them for help. They were very understanding of my situation and went so far to help figure it out that they sent a mechanic to my storage unit to make sure it wasnt something that happened during the oil change. He checked the filter and drain plug, both were dry, so they determined it wasnt anything they had worked on that caused the leak. That by itself was pretty awesome...then they called a tow truck for me. Tow truck came and picked up me and my SUV and took us over to Moonlight Motors. On the way there, Im talking to the driver and he said hes never had to take a vehicle back there to fix a mistake. He shared horror stories of several other places, but not one had ever come back to Moonlight Motors...NONE. I left the SUV with them to diagnose the problem. A short time later they called and told me what the issue was: a design flaw by the manufacturer! It required an upgraded part that they had to order and they completed the repair the following Monday. Oh! Did I forget to mention this is a Saturday on Easter weekend?? Yes, they went that far above and beyond on a holiday weekend. And if that doesnt convince you...they knew I was driving the SUV cross country to GA in the following few days; so about a week after they had replaced the defective part, they called me to make sure the SUV and I got to GA alright. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? They were so kind and patient with me, even at one of the most anxious moments of the trip; and then they called to check that the SUV and I made it safely and without incident. How cool was that? I simply cant thank or praise them enough for the excellent work done by great people. The whole experience couldve gone very differently if I wasnt lucky enough to get referred here from by friend here in Encinitas.

The staff was pleasurable to talk to and they have great customer service.Brought my 2003 BMW 330i in for a misfire diagnostic + to potentially get a battery replaced.After having the car for two full days, they informed me it was too complicated and it needed to go to a bmw specialty shop - which is fair (although on their website it states specifically they are comfortable working on bmws). Upon receiving my so called “inspection” I noticed NOTHING was looked at on the car. All they did was scan the codes and decide it was too hard for them - and they had my car for two days to do so. I took my car to a bmw shop and they replaced the battery & noticed a GIANT hole in the disa, visible to the naked eye and it was hissing very loudly. They diagnosed and repaired it in 8 hours.They also informed me my brakes were at their minimum wear and no longer safe to drive on - another thing moonlight failed to inform me on.Needless to say, the service I received here felt dishonest and lazy. I voiced my concerns via text and gave them time to reply before I left this review - don’t waste your time & go somewhere else.

What happened exactly was Ken said, my car uses only synthetic oil which costs more. This isnt true. At all. The oil cap reads use only detergent oil which all oil is nowadays. They were friendly and checked everything, gave me lots of estimates on all sorts of things that came with the oil change special. I would not go here again.While its not common for someone to lie in order to sell me more expensive oil my car regularly uses, it is more common for businesses to lure you in with a cheap rate and then tell you about a bunch of things you need. Someone sold them this diagnostic equipment with the promise of more money but the trouble is the hard sell is passed on to the consumer.

I went for a battery and terminal replacement. There was battery acid damage so I needed a terminal replaced. Overall the work done was good, battery and labor pricing was fair for the battery replacement, the cost of the terminal was double what I would have paid if I’d bought it myself though… what I didn’t think was fair was the cost of the labor to replace the terminal. They charged me $70 to unscrew a terminal and spray it with a coating, which was more labor cost than to change the battery itself .

If you are in SD County and taking a car elsewhere for service, you are doing it wrong. Much faster turnaround time than taking my car to the dealer, even counting the longer drive door to door. There have been multiple occasions over the years where my wife or I have taken a car in to get looked at and we have either not been charged or charged something nominal (say $10 or $20) when no intervention was needed, or a minor computer reset was the issue. There is also a lot of nice stuff to do within walking distance of the shop if you want to wait while getting service.

They were honest and didnt upsell me on anything. they told and showed me what the vehicle needed and told me what would be a good idea to get done in the future but it wasnt necessary right now. Marty...I sent an email from your website also. I was charged $149 for a service that I never requested. At no time did anyone from Moonlight Motors ask me if I wanted a full diagnostic on my car. I told Adam that the engine was missing when idling and nothing more. When I purchased the car a year ago I had a full diagnostic on my car from Moonlight Motors so why would I want another one that was going to tell me the same thing.I am very disappointed and would appreciate a full refund.Henry Friedman

As usual, Adam and the Moonlight Motors team promptly completed the required coolant system repairs (new hoses, replaced broken thermostat housing, new coolant) to my wifes 2011 Mini Clubman S. No up-selling, no surprises, just what was diagnosed initially as needing repair/replacement at the estimated price upfront and ahead of schedule 1-day early). We will continue to use Moonlight Motors to keep our familys three cars in tip-top condition, and I would (and do) recommend them to my family and friends.

Another great experience with Moonlight Motors where an engine light came on so I scheduled an appointment to have it checked out. (The light didn’t stay on but I wanted it checked out) They spent an hour doing diagnostics and couldn’t find any issues so they let me go and didn’t charge me for their time.Thank you!

Transmission replacement was done promptly Also informed me of future items requiring service My vehicle had 225k mileage so i had to weigh value to repair or replace vehicle. Based on discussion and computer info of vehicle i can get many more years of use on my surf van Will continue going forward with maintenance requirements as recommended

Got to speak with Adam and he was extremely helpful in figuring out what work absolutely NEEDED get done and survive the 1000 mile drive back to Colorado without my truck blowing up. Originally I was quoted anywhere from $1000 to $3000 and was about to take my truck to another shop but he worked with me and brought it to a reasonable price and I made it to Colorado safely!

Went in for a diagnosis on some engine noise. Paid $75, told it was my power steering pump. So, yeah they were wrong as noise came from the AC compressor. I even mentioned that and they disagreed. Disappointed, wont be going back for anything.
