Because of the small airport and limited flights, the TSA checkpoint was quick. The Alaska waiting area was good with plenty of seats. The only drawback is the upon announcing boarding, half of the people rushed the gate. Give me a break folks, the plane is not going anywhere until everyone is on board.

A small, yet very charming and clean airport. You walk out to the plane from your gate, very old school. It’s a pleasant experience flying in and out of this airport.There’s only one restaurant, Woody’s, that you can eat at before going through TSA. Once you go through, there’s a vending machine for drinks and a vending machine for snacks.

Small local airport with five (5) gates. You board all the gates via a portable ramp. The TSA is fairly fast and friendly. The airport has a small bar/convenience store that actually serves mixed drinks. Overall super cute, efficient, and friendly. Please note the planes flying into this airport are small commercial planes.

Wow, all of the people working at 4 am were extremely friendly, helpful, and competent, from TSA to the airline check in process, it was very well run, with a lot of positivity.It is a very small airport, which is also nice for low hassle to get in and get on your route.Super impressed!

A small but very functional airport. I loved that I didnt have to follow endless hallways & different floor levels to find the baggage claim. Loved it, as it was my first experience there. The flight I had was out of LAX and was one of the smoothest ones Ive experienced.

Great little airport. Super cool say to get to. And 10min from Monterey beach/Pier. Car rental facilities on site next to baggage claim. 1 small gift shop and 1 small coffee / snack shop on site. And a little bar. Getting thru security and to your gate takes 2min

Lost my bag and offered no assistance. Had to wait for hours while manager and secretary of manager both refused to help. No one from the airline was available for several hours even though I was assured the airlines themselves would be staffed. When asked for help was told it was a small airport and I would need to be patient. No phone number to call airline had to show up and miss a lot of my trip hanging out in an empty airport with no assistance. Missed 3 doses of my medication already with no plan or help to get my belongings back. Monterey is beautiful but I would definitely recommend flying into San Jose and driving in cause this is terrible.

Monterey Airport is a nice little airport. If you have time before or after a flight go to Woodys restaurant upstairs for a bite to eat and watch the planes takeoff and land.

Worst small airport experience. Delays waiting for mechanics, more delays finding maintenance to sign off. TSA inconsistent on same exact items day to day and sexual invasive pat down because button down jeans (same jeans that were OK the day before).

This was our second, ever, worst TSA experience and we fly at least 2-3 times a year. This was our 6th flight with our infant. Everything that could be dismantled and unpacked, we were made to do. First time we were ever asked to place his car seat, removed from his stroller, on the belt for scanning rather than being wanded. First time ever, in my life of owning a Kindle, was I made to take it out and have my bag run back through. Ive owned a Kindle since they came out and take it on every trip. They held my husbands wallet until they were done combing through alllll of our things. The agents absolutely acted like we were inconveniencing them. Thank goodness nobody else was in line. So, theres that perk. Short lines. And theres an outdoor waiting area which we gladly took advantage of while sipping wine after our unpack and repack everything with a 10-month-old in tow. Hope to never fly in/out of this airport again!

A quaint little airport. Pretty easy to get around, small terminal with 2 gates. You have to walk on the tarmack to get to your plane or to the terminal. Hassle free checking, no crowds to deal with. Great way to travel into and out of central Cali. San Jose, San Francisco are a few more hours north and LA a few hours south.

It’s a super small airport but my baggage always comes out real fast. The biggest downside would be that there is really no restaurants/food/bar past securities (there is a vending machine and a small gift store).Security has a tendency of getting backed up and there is always way more TSA Pre-check passengers trying to get through security than us common folk, which gets it backed up to say the least 😒. However, even when it does get backed up - the longest I’ve ever been in line to get through security was for 20 minutes, TOPS.Other than that, it’s one of the more peaceful airports I’ve been too. All the employees that work there give off good vibes and are enthusiastic and happy to help.

My experience with the Monterey airport, particularly with the American Airline’s staff, has always been so pleasant. We recently had an early flight at 525am which shortly after arriving got delayed. The American Airlines crew, now faced with a bunch of grumpy non-morning people, stayed extremely chipper, positive and helpful. The team helped provide options to keep us relatively on time through other flights. 10/10 Would get delayed with that AA team again.

We had a great experience flying out of Monterey Airport. We lost our car keys at the TSA check point and after filling out a form on the website we got a call just hours later from Denise to let us know they had found our keys. We flew back home a few days later and Denise went out of her way to have make arrangements for us to have our keys when we arrive late at nigh and be able to drive home.

MRY is a fantastic airport to fly in and out of. Generally, it only takes about 15 min (usually less) to get through a very friendly TSA check. In addition, you have Woodys restaurant on site that is a must-do as a visitor and local. The variety store also has some super nice local souvenirs esp the Lula chocolates 😋 And there are plenty of pokemon 😊

I’m sitting here at gate 5 waiting on departure. If and when you come here and rent a car. You must jot down the time, date, mileage and fill up before dropping off, lock doors and put contract with keys in it’s appropriate rental company box.

A perfectly convenient and efficient smaller regional airport. It is less than 10 minutes from downtown Monterey. It offers an adequate bar and restaurant with easy access for arrivals and departures. One warning: rental car counters are excruciatingly slow. The staff is kind and friendly, but they all only have one agent and are usually 6-8 customers deep when a plane lands. Take a deep breath and catch up on Instagram while you wait, because you will wait.

The Monterey Regional Airport is a very small airport that I personally don’t like to fly from. Prices for flights to Monterey are just not worth it and I don’t like the old fashion style having to board using the roll up stairs. I find that method very primitive. There are also several car rental agencies available and there’s one restaurant that has below average food. I prefer driving to San Francisco International Airport and flying from there when I have to travel or San Jose Mineta International Airport. Although this airport maybe convenient I personally just don’t like it. Two stars is what I rate this airport.

This small airport may be convenient but the price is not worth it. The experience we had left us rethinking future travel plans. The TSA line was oddly investigative. We had to take everything out of our bags. Once we got through our gate we were stopped again near the plane to view our boarding passes. Three times. The plane is small so they put your carry on under the plane, but they broke my bag. Next time we will fly into another airport. I did enjoy our rental car company.

One of the worst check in experiences in my life. We stood in line for an hour while the agent spent forever on the phone for problem passengers. There was no simple bag drop, so everyone was stuck in the same line. Then our flight was delayed more than 3 hours, partly because the had only a single gate and parking place for the plane. We waited forever for another flight to get out of the way. It would have been far faster to drive to the San Jose airport.

Every employee we interacted with had a low level of proffesionalism. Lots of confusion on their end- especially American Airlines staff. Im convinced it was thier fault nearly everyone on our plane that had connection flights, missed them. Resulting in us having to stay overnight in Dallas with our 5 month old. Poor experience through and through.

Small airport with limited flights. Parking is not pro rated so if you are a minute over into the next day (24 hours) you have to pay for the whole day. Otherwise the airport staff is friendly and is a option instead of using San Jose or SF airports.

Great little airport. I noticed some complaints but if you take into consideration this is not an international airport so it isnt going to offer much in terms of shopping or food. However, I deplaned and was able to go upstairs and enjoy a sit down meal on the patio and a cocktail before catching an Uber to my hotel. Very easy to get Uber or Lyft ride if needed. I noticed a coffee shop and a gift shop as well as rental car services.

Anytime I want to fly out of Monterey Bay Area in which I live, I always fly out of the Monterey Regional Airport it is a most convenient Airport in the surrounding area and you can connect to any flight in the country or internationally. Its never too crowded and all of the major airlines fly out of MRA. And then the flight in or out, is a spectacular sight, flying over the ocean and if youre headed east baking to the right or left and heading east back inland, and if youre headed west to Hawaii or destinations further west you can fly to San Francisco and catch the flight out. It is a beautiful little Airport with a lot of conveniences to destinations. I give it a 10 every time I travel.

Airport needs to do a better job of advertising hours of operation. I sat at the ticket counter for over 30 minutes with no clerk working. Then sat at a closed security checkpoint, the only one at the airport so that the TSA staff could do training. I know for the future, it would just be better to fly into San Jose or San Fransisco and take the longer drive rather than going through an airport with poor service and poor staff.

Small but hugely convenient airport. Very short security lines and much more relaxed than nearby San Jose and SFO. But be warned, if theres a problem with the plane, its almost impossible to find another flight. So if visiting a super important event (wedding, funeral, many connections, Etc) SFO or San Jose may be better since they would have more options and backups.

For me, the worst part of any airport is when they have an unpleasant staff. MRY is not a large airport (5 gates, 2 of them in use at the moment) by any means, but every person I encountered from the check in desk to the TSA were all incredibly pleasant and helpful - this is everything. They didnt rush you or talk down to you. It felt like they were there to serve the customer, rather than usher everyone through like cattle. They have a restaurant upstairs and a gift shop that I didnt check out. Otherwise, I was able to find charging stations and a place to sit with my laptop. The wifi was easy to connect to and fast. This is the only review I believe Ive ever left for an airport, but I felt they deserved it.

TERRIBLE. I have been flying through here for years and loved the convenience. Tried to check in the night before and on my way this morning with no luck. I only have carryon and hoped with checking in online this wouldnt be an issue. In the past even running late, someone would stay behind to man the ticketing counter but as I walked in 30 min before departure decided to try the kiosk instead which wouldnt work. I litterally had to walk around a corner through TSA to board this plane. United told me to knock on Americans door which wouldnt work. TSA and the person who came after takeoff lectured me on not being here 2 hours prior for my 6:10am flight. I understand I came late 30 min before departure but all I needed was a printed boarding pass and I could have hopped right on this plane. What WAS nice about this airport was the people working were helpful, kind, and asking for a minute of someones time wasnt asking too much. I told the person who reticketed me (visibly in a terrible mood) that this was really difficult because I came here for my grandmas funeral and was delayed 6.5 hours coming also. He didnt even look up and told me well looks like you made it just fine. Sir, I was sobbing in Phoenix in a room full of strangers, terrified I wouldnt make this funeral. Every person with American on this trip has not shown any customer service skills, even when I mention I came for a funeral. To add more insult, TSA wasnt even open until less than an hour before boarding after lecturing me about being two hours early. TSA and the jerk at the ticket counter kept talking about how long the line gets to prove a point that I should not have been late. What this is- they want you to wait on them but they will not show you any consideration with unexpected circumstances. Every person Ive known who flys through Monterey knows nothing is open when you get there early. My grandma was a kind person so she has been worth every minute of these delays and thats my comfort. American needs to provide adequate staffing so people dont get burnt out and treat others this way. The person who was rude to me briefly mentioned they have no one. Neither do I at work, but I never allow this breaking point to come where ppl are being mistreated- and thats working with FOOD. People traveling go places at both their best and their worst moments, and with American needs to provide better support for employees and customers. Finally one lady just showed me some kindness and printed a boarding pass for getting me out of the back row. Something tells me her day is going better than the man at the counter.

This is a great airport! Free parking if you will be there for 30 minutes or less. Only 4 airlines fly out of here and they are mostly regional commuter jets. The lines are never long. The interior could use an update. You really only need to get to the airport about 45 minutes before your plane departs.

Small place. Very close to town. Short car ride to my hotel (~5min). Could have walked to the airport. I got here early and hung out in the bar and watched the planes land and take off. Also helped that the NFL playoffs were on.I had the Philly cheesesteak.... Not bad! Lots of meat, cheese and veggies. Better than I expected for an airport bar. The meat, staying juicy and tender, was thin and cooked well. Came with fries... Which were crisp and hot fresh.....and a pickle.

Short waits at security and walks to gate and planes. Good parking and taxi/ride share options. Good bathrooms and baggage ready for pickup quickly.Only large downside was very limited food/drinks/pay services and internet while awaiting the plane. For such a relatively isolated airport with good parking, a proper restaurant and travelmart would get business from passengers and locals.

This is a fast, small airport, with no frills. We opted to fly here to get to Carmel By The Sea, rather than flying through San Jose - to avoid the length of the drive. It is also significantly easier to navigate this airport than either SJ or SF. Security were friendly, though there is no true TSA Precheck option here, they did a semi-expedited screening. The waiting area is slightly cramped, and the overhead gate PA system is muffled - literally couldnt understand a word of what the gate agent was saying during the boarding process. However, the process still was relatively smooth, though I saw several travelers walking up to the agent saying they couldnt hear anything. Overall, this airport saved time. The nonstop tickets from Phoenix were 67% higher cost that flying to SJ (200 vs 120).

This was my first experience in this place during the pandemic. I understand the problem of pilots at Amerians Airlines, but sometimes we have very important trips to the other States. A couple of days ago, I was shocked by the lack of sufficient staff at Monterey Airport, but finally, an absolutely wonderful woman came to my aid, her name is Jamie. I want to say that if it hadnt been for her help, I would not have reached Houston on the right day and at the right time. I would like to personally thank this great staff member for her excellent work and caring attitude towards passengers.

Cant beat it for local service, though the prices are higher than going out of SJC or SFO. However, when you factor in the added costs to go to either the other two and the time, then you might be better off at MRY. The connections continue to improve and love the direct flights to Denver and Dallas.

I wanted to personally shout out Lizett Smith of United Airlines at Monterey Airport. I would leave less stars if I was reviewing United as a company, because they cancelled my ticket for no reason. But Lizette and her coworker were exceptionally friendly and helpful when firguring out what had gone wrong with my ticket. And time was ticking down to my plane leaving every second. I finally got the OK from United to check-in and they helped me quickly go through the process. Lizette knew I would be trying to get on the flight and made sure she kept the gate open as long as she could without delaying the flight. I made it with maybe 5/10 mins to spare before takeoff. I was so thankful for their help. And then!!! I land in San Francisco and Lizette calls me--I had dropped my drivers license while running to the plane! She immediately took down my address and sent it out that day. It arrived in the mail the day after I got back home. Thank you so much Lizette and United staff!

2nd time Flying out of MRY. Both of my flights have been delayed enough that I missed my connecting flights and had to purchase a ticket at the next airport with different airlines.Not sure if its normal for flights to be delayed all the time here but its happened on 2/2 of my flights.Staff is nice but the gate agent just told me to ask the agent when I land for help.I love flying out of small airports but MRY hasnt been working out for me.Woodys is great and I would give them 5 starts for food and staff though!

Very nice regional airport serving the Monterey peninsula and surrounding communities. Flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. Small and easy to navigate with no hassles waiting curbside for a few minutes if you need to. Long term parking is a short walk to the terminal. Small, but friendly and easy to navigate, this is one of my favorite regional airports.

Bad experience my flight # UA 5522, I do not recommend traveling from this airport because United airlines not ship all bags with travelers, which causes delays to continuing flights because of the fact that United treats the airport a second degree and uses small aircraft unlike other airports such as the San Jose airport.Airport management policy appears to be weaker than airlines Unlike other airports nearby.

Tiny airport with friendly staff. Wish they had a good coffee place though, just good coffee is all I ask lol ☕️The security is pretty fast! Unless is foggy you don’t need to get here more than an hour before your flight ✈️

I have such a love hate relationship with this airport. A huge plus is that its convenient. I dont have to drive down to San Jose or San Francisco to deal with the long lines and highway traffic. I can also find some very good deals flying out of here if I purchase far enough ahead of time. With that said, because the flights are rarely full I have had flights delayed up to two hours or rescheduled from 7am to 2pm. Also, flights have been cut drastically from previous years. I believe there are currently only 5 destinations and some destinations, like San Diego, only have one flight leaving daily.

This airport makes visiting the peninsula easy, even if flights are limited, especially from the eastern portion of the country. United isn’t my favorite airline, but that’s not MRY’s fault. It still beats the 1.5h slog from/to SLC. The extra $ is worth the convenience.

Do not fly American here. The front desk is rude and spiteful. Always try to charge you extra for baggage even with non economy tickets. Only happens at this airport.I fly the same airline out of LA in the same plane and I never pay $25 to check my bag for an hour.

Although this is small, this airport has all the usual conveniences e.g., restaurant,, bathrooms, convenience store, etc. The lines are never long and you can get from you car to the gate quickly. I recommend to anyone in the central coast.

It reminds me of some of the smaller regional airports down south like the Burbank airport used to be. Easy to get in and out of and its also equally fantastic that @Allegiant airlines is now flying direct from Portland into Monterey once a week.

I fly in and out of this airport often. Its quaint with some interesting historical displays. The cafe/bar is incredible. I recommend the calamari sandwich. Airport Staff are efficient and friendly. Its tiny.

I love my little airport on the hill! So convenient, TSA is quick, pickup/dropoff is hassle free. If I have a flight at 10AM, I dont have to wake up early and drive 2 hours...then fight traffic and airport congestion, etc... I leave home at 9, get dropped at the curb, breeze through TSA, onto the aircraft and off I go. Yes, sometimes it can be more expensive (sometimes it isn), but I will gladly pay extra for the ease and frustration free experience.

Small yet beautiful airport nestled in the hills in Monterey. The restaurant on the second floor is expensive but delicious. The TSA is quick and efficient and due to the small size the wait is never very long.

The best place for easy of boarding but dont underestimate the lines. Come early. But if you have an important engagement to make, dont fly out of Monterey. They are notorious for delays because SFO always has either air traffic or weather conditions. Right now in the winter, Denver is having the weather delays.

Afternoon shift TSA is horrible and even their check-in staff agrees. The person I was flying with accidentally booked my flight with my middle name instead of my first and when TSA noticed they gave me a hassle even though I showed them several forms of ID that verified my first, middle, and last name. Ended up having to go check-in lost again andm seat with the person I was flying with. Boo.

I was going through a security check point to catch a flight from Monterey to LAX....there were two people in front of me. TSA checked their IDs, the agent was super friendly to them. Then it was my turn to give him my ID and itinerary, he looked at it carefully, then he asked, where are your parents from? I didnt expect that question, since it has nothing to do with what he needs to know. Extremely uncomfortable and hostile.The irony of this is that the girl who was in front of me that he didnt bother to ask any question, well, during the screening process, they found a pocket knife in her purse.My advice to the TSA official is that dont stereotype people based in their looks, you should follow procedure and make sure the safety of those who put their trust on you.
