We had a great experience doing a half day of climbing and canyoning with Taylor. My wife, myself, and our two boys (9 and 11). We met him bright and early, which was great for avoiding the heat and crowds. The combo of top roping and scurrying around some beautiful boulders and cracks was perfect. The kids could not stop chatting with Taylor who did a great job managing them. “I really like him, can we come back tomorrow”? They even shared their Jolly Ranchers with him, which, in our house, is a badge of honor!:-)

My husband and I had an amazing time with Nolan at Joshua Tree this week. Nolan is a truly remarkable human and an incredible Mojave guide. He was motivational, inspirational, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun! My husband and I left our rock scrambling experience, with Nolan, feeling energized, renewed and empowered. My 14 year old daughter and myself love trying new things and while visiting new places and National Parks. While in Joshua Tree why not rock climbing?!? It was amazing experience. Murphy our guide was great, patient, and taught us a ton. My daughter has only talked about how she wants to do it again! Thank you Murphy for introducing her to a new activity. Murphy also suggested a hike (less crowded) he thought we would enjoy and we both loved it with. Ton of rock scrambling. Highly recommend and would do it again.

Couldnt be happier about our experience with Murph from Mojave Guides.As 2 novices to climbing (+/- 2 months bouldering experience) we were a little anxious about rope climbing out in Joshua Tree, not knowing what to expect and how far up wed actually make it.Upon meeting Murph in the morning for the brief we were very much reassured though, and felt listened to in our needs & wishes for our climbing session.Drove to a gorgeous spot that was calm and had multiple routes without having to relocate (by car). Explanation before & during the climbs about best practice & techniques (most new to us) were very well given and demonstrated. Allowed us to do some multi-pitch climbing, crack climbing, etc.All in all very exhilarating day that will not be forgotten! Definitely dont hesitate booking with Mojave Guides - also if youre a beginner with no prior (outdoor) rope climbing experience.Thanks Murph and all the best in your future climbs!

Fantastic experience climbing and scrambling. We wanted our children, 8 and 6yo, to have a fun and safe first time climbing outdoors. Defne, our guide, called me the day before to discuss our abilities and plan for the day. We had a blast doing some top-rope routes on Mustang Ranch Rock and wrapped up with the Chasm of Doom! She was great with our kids and made us all feel super safe. We will definitely use this company again for our next guided rock climbing adventure in JT.

We stopped in Joshua Tree on our two month bucket list RV trip through West Coast National Parks and decided to try climbing and repelling. Our last minute booking with Mojave guides resulted in one of the most fun exhilarating days of our trip! Our guide, Nolan, was the perfect combination of patient, fun and encouraging and we had a great morning enjoying this new experience in a very peaceful spiritual place. Oh, and we are almost 70, so anyone can do it:)

We had the most amazing time on our first outdoor climbing experience! Mojave Guides took the time to ask what our goals and experience levels were and our guide, Murphy, took this into account and really put us at ease while also challenging us. Meet up was smooth, we had multiple route options, and, most importantly, we felt safe and secure the entire time. Murphy was also a genuinely nice person and went out of his way to show us an approachable boulder in the area as well. Could not recommend more highly and we would do again in a heartbeat!

Incredible experience! I did a good bit of research before deciding to book with Mojave Guides and I definitely feel I made the right choice. My son and I did a half-day Canyons and Corridors adventure and we loved every minute.Murphy, our guide, was prompt and easy to find. He was energetic and extremely knowledgeable and eager to share interesting tidbits with us about different flora and fauna of the area. He was able to hold my 17-yr-old son’s attention (which is not easy!).The terrain was a tad bit challenging (for me, the mom) in a couple places, but Murphy easily coached me through and I felt very accomplished afterwards. He was so encouraging and kind!When I come back to this area, I will 100% book with Mojave Guides again! We were able to see parts of the park not easily accessible by map.Thank you for such exceptional service and an unforgettable outing.

I had a climbing trip booked for 2 months and with less than 48 hrs notice THEY cancelled on me. I frantically looked for another guide at 6pm on a saturday for Monday morning and Mojave had an opening. I easily booked online and got information quickly. Im so glad they did! Taylor was amazing! He set some routes that were perfect for our current climbing levels. He even got us on our first trad route. I highly recommend! He saved our trip.

10/10! Such a great experience!! Murphy was the best. It was a private session with just my partner and I and Murphy. He gave us the option to of where we wanted to go, what difficulty of routes we wanted to take, and what kind of climbing we wanted to do. He let us go at our pace and really build our own adventure. He asked us if we wanted help but didnt offer it unsolicited. He gave us some pointers but mostly we just had fun, because thats what we said we wanted in the beginning when he asked what our goals and hopes were for the day. He was so funny and engaging and the whole thing very safe and secure as well. His passion for people and climbing made the day really amazing. Thank you Murphy!!

Highly recommend Mojave Guides. Found them via Google. Had an incredible day with James Murphy -- seek him out if you can (although Im sure the entire crew is great). Im a sport climber getting into Trad and wanted to do a deep dive with an expert before exploring more on my own. James made the day instructional and also super fun -- and set me up for the next phase of my trad journey. I plan on booking another day with him in the near future based on my experience.

Murphy at Mojave Guides was excellent! He took us on several single pitch climbs and a 400 ft multipitch trad climb. He provided us a great climbing experience that matched our abilities. Was a fun guy to spend the day climbing with and he pointed us in the direction of some sport climbs we could do later that matched our level.

We had such a great time with our guide Taylor!!! My husband (45), my daughter (13), my son (10), and I (44) have never done any rock climbing. Taylor was so friendly, fun, and taught us all about knot-tying, climbing technique, and safety. He also told us funny and interesting anecdotes and history about the Park.Taylor set up two routes for us that were different and challenging - slab climbing and crack climbing. He was so patient helping us climb and we were all able to get to the top of the slab! I was so impressed with how he worked with our kids, who each had moments of uncertainty about the climb. Taylor even went up with our son to help him find the holds so that he could successfully get up to the ledge.I could go on and on about how wonderful, exciting, and fun our experience was with Taylor and Mojave Guides!!! He clearly explained rock climbing: the types, gear, safety features, ratings, methods, etc. He was so encouraging and supportive and let us move at our own pace and adapt to the level or type of activity we wanted to do. Rented gear was clean and good quality. Found some climbs that were just right for our ability levels, ain an area of the park we never wouldve found for ourselves. Went on a guided climbing adventure as a part of a work trip and it was AWESOME! Far exceeded my expectations and was truly so fun. The guides absolutely made it though. Some of us were a little nervous and almost none of us had any experience but they showed us the ropes, kept it light and fun, and you could feel the deep enjoyment and appreciation for what they do! They were so encouraging and mindful of our safety that I was able to relax and really enjoy the experience. Luis was awesome. We sort of lucked out and were the only two registered for the rock climbing adventure that day. My wife and I have never climbed before and Luis was very informative. He was sure to walk us carefully through each important safety step and had us climbing the face of Cyclopes in no time. Once we finished the climb, Luis took us to the top and we repelled down the face of the giant rock. So much fun. We were running short on time towards the end, but Luis was gracious enough to take us through the cavern of doom where we scrambled our way up and inside the maze of tight fitting crevasses and pathways until we reached the overlook and made our way back down. Defne was such a great, fun guide! She was knowledgeable, safe, and flexible based on my needs as a client (I was coming off of a shoulder injury, so I wasnt fully sure of how hard Id be climbing). She listened to my goals for the session, and gave me just the right amount of challenge for my current fitness level. We were able to pack a decent amount of climbing into the half day, and she was thoughtful enough to show me some classics and 5-star climbs, as it was my first time in Joshua Tree. After weeks of researching the various Joshua Tree climbing guide companies, I settled on Mojave Guides. The booking process was speedy and incredibly straightforward.My group of 4 was paired with James Murphy (aka Murf) for a half day (am) Saturday rock climbing session. From the start, Murf was beaming with energy and a smile, creating a comfortable and positive atmosphere for the entirety of our time. Climbing for a beginner can be both awkward and scary, yet no one in my group felt that way with Murf. He was an absolutely phenomenal instructor, explaining easily applicable tips and tricks. He’s also incredibly knowledgeable on the desert vegetation and will throw you some bonus knowledge!If you’re considering booking with Mojave Guides, don’t hesitate and do it! Seriously, even my 62yo mother made it to the top of the routes and had a blast. Just remember to bring water and a positive attitude :)

I can’t recommend Mojave Guides enough! I scheduled/reserved a private 4 hour climbing experience for myself & my 17 year old son. The entire experience was marvelous. Waivers signed in advance, prompt communication with details prior. They provided the gear and it was of high quality and in excellent condition. But the best part was the actual experience. We had Matt as our guide and he was marvelous!!! I think we lucked out with him, but at the end we met other members of the Mojave Guide staff and they seemed terrific as well. As a fellow business owner, I know that a great deal of work goes into the details and Mojave Guides is a phenomenal example of that.

We had our Joshua Tree Rock Climbing Experience on 2/23/22 with Heather as our guide. Our adventure started at 8 a.m. with unseasonably cold temps, but blue skies. Within a couple of hours, we had the opportunity to see something that doesnt happen very often in JT...it started snowing! These conditions made for tough climbing, but we didnt mind since were from New England and know how to handle a little bit of snow. Heather was a terrific teacher and has a super positive attitude and spirit. She encouraged us to make it all the way to the top of the rock face despite the cold conditions and we all had an amazing time. I booked a half day rock climbing trip in Joshua Tree with Mojave Guides as a surprise birthday gift for my husband, and it was the best decision ever!!! I was connected with Mojave Guides through a climbing buddy of mine that knew the owner (Seth) personally. I was with a group of 6 friends, with varying levels of experience climbing outdoors. We spent two full days with Seth and his guides (Chris and Nate I think) and the experience with Mojave was fantastic from start to finish. Several things that made Mojave stand out: 1.) Flexibility: scheduling the time and day for our climbs was easy and straightforward, we could come out as early or late as we wanted and climb any areas of the park - hassle free and no pressure! 2.) Communication: Seth and I chatted via email for months leading up to the trip - once there we talked mostly via text and it made planning everything very straightforward and transparent. Also they take VenMo! which made payment a breeze. 3.) Knowledgeable: some of our group wanted to learn gear placement and anchor building, while others just wanted to climb as much as possible - Mojave did a great job of making time for all of the varying levels of interest and ability and we felt extremely safe the entire time. 4.) Personal touches: Seth knew we were planning days out unguided along with guided days; he came prepared with advice on climbs and areas of the park that we could handle on our own, which saved us a ton of time. He also gave us an awesome homemade guide with suggestions on places to visit, eat and explore during our stay. The four of us (4 adults) did Mojave Guides rock climbing for a half day Friday March 11 and it was amazing. Taylor was great— very friendly and interested in his clients. We had 4 great climbs that were each a bit different in profile. The gear was good. This was by far the highlight of my trip to Joshua Tree. I am not an experienced climber - as in, I have repelled like twice as a youngster, and have done indoor climbing only a handful of times - and this was perfect. I shared that I am pretty athletic and Murph picked out the perfect places to show me the ropes (pun intended. Also said ropes and all other safety equipment is adequately provided.) I was traveling solo and always prefer to hire a guide for exploring the parks. Google led me to Mojave Guides and they did not disappoint!I booked a half day hike and received a text from my guide, Murphy, the day before with a pin location of where to meet. We agreed on a more strenuous hike and it was well worth it. I’ve never done a hike like that before over rocks and felt some sense of accomplishment when it was done. Murphy was great and provided support and assistance over some of the more dicey spots. He was knowledgeable about the geography, the geology and the even the trees and vegetation of the park. Super fun activity for all ages! Matt, our guide, was awesome. He was patient, made sure we were always safe, and gave us guidance and advice as needed. I never climbed before and thanks to his guidance, I was able to reach the top of one of the boulders! We even had some time after climbing to go rock scrambling, which my daughter really enjoyed. We were provided with all necessary equipment as well as Huppy bars and sparkling water. This is a great way to spend half a day or a full day at JT National Park. We decided somewhat last minute that we wanted to go rock climbing in Joshua Tree and booked a tour with Mojave Guides through Viator. I initially asked the company about whether someone with MS would be able to climb and was touched that Seth did the research and learned more about the disease to be able to fully answer the question. Our family member with MS didnt end up attending, but the effort was so appreciated.We had an absolute BLAST climbing. Murphy was a wonderful guide that accommodated our climbing levels and preferences on a windy day. He was very funny, encouraging, and even taught one of our group to belay. Let’s start with saying that I’m afraid of heights so doing this was clearly not my idea but I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. Murphy was our guide and he couldn’t have been more perfect. He was really fun, patient, understanding of my fear so he took some time to explain how everything worked and why it was so safe to do this type of climbing. Once the fear was manageable, it was just about the fun and like solving a puzzle. He knew every little thing about this rock so when we didn’t know where to step he would intervene and help. Ive climbed for over 35 years but I still like to hire a guide, particarly when I dont have a climbing partner. I believe this is the fourth time Ive climbed with Mojave Guides including one time with the owner Seth. Taylor was my guide this time and we had a great time just climbing single pitches in Hidden Valley Campground, some of which I have climbed in the past. I climbed with Ryan for three days in Joshua Tree and he was one of the best guides I’ve ever had. Ryan knew the park very well and was able to find great climbs for us regardless of weather and crowds - this was impressive since the park was packed and it happened to be very windy two of our three days in the park (it even snowed one day). Ryan exceeded my expectations by teaching us new climbing skills and techniques in addition to keeping us safe while climbing. Seth of Mojave Guides is an outstanding instructor and climbing enthusiast. My boys have done bouldering before, but had never gone up a rock face and, at 54 years of age, Ive done neither bouldering nor rock climbing. Seth was reassuring and of good humor and while he would encourage us to push ourselves, never demanded anything we werent ready for and was more than supportive any time one of us would reach our mental limit. My youngest son was able to summit one of the climbs, my oldest son got nearly there himself, and I tested myself farther than I thought I would. Having Seth in charge of the rope, lowering us down when ready, made all the difference. Ive never had a desire to climb before, but have to admit, I would do it again in a heartbeat. My girlfriend and I did a 4 hour private climbing session with Nate from Mojave guides and loved it!We are not experienced climbers - Nate taught us some climbing techniques and gave us pointers when we were getting stuck. The day was important to him too😃😃.It was in the mid 80’s and walking across the open land was sunny and very hot, but our guide knew where to go for shade and the type of climbing we wanted. I climbed with Seth in April 2015 in Joshua Tree and had a great experience. He knew a multitude of routes in Joshua Tree and could easily gauge our groups abilities and matched us with appropriate climbs. Seth is a great guide. While we were climbing one of the people climbing next to us was injured and needed to be evacuated off the cliffs. Seth acted quickly and professionally. He made sure the person was stable, got additional help, and ensured the person was evacuated safely.The other parties accident certainly took away from our climbing time, but Seth more than made up for it and showed his true colors being a good stuward for climbers everywhere.I would definitely recommend Mohave Guides to friends and family whether expert or novice.

James Murphy took us out for an AMAZING half day climbing adventure in Indian Cove! In the gym I am usually climbing V0 (bouldering) or 5.9 (top rope). My boyfriend is usually V3 (bouldering) or 5.12 (top rope) and James was able to find routes where we both felt challenged and excited about the climb. Each route had a different approach to the technique and we were both happy to have the variety and sense of accomplishment. James was especially great as a guide because he made the experience personal. James took the time to explain the nuance of slab climbing, the special approach to route rating in Joshua Tree, and tailored his coaching to each of our skill levels. I feel that James struck the rare balance of challenging each climber to achieve more than they thought they could, while remaining supportive an letting us (me in particular) know there was always a safety net.
