First off, let me state that I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience.The two strongest points about this place are the extremely friendly service and the comforting time capsule feel of the place.That being said, I found the star of my meal, the chicken pot pie, to be nothing truly remarkable.Before I go any further, I dont like posting reviews that are not super positive unless I actually had a miserable experience, which I didnt.Would I return to this place?Yes, absolutely!Would I drive all the way up from Long Beach to go here, probably not, unless I was meeting a like-minded person who enjoys time capsule dining as much as I do.You get a lot of food for your money!The side salad, which comes with green bean salad on top of it was actually quite tasty, though might be off-putting to some.The dinner rolls were soft, delicious and melted in my mouth.I would probably try the chicken pot pie again, just perhaps with the gravy on the side.The mashed potatoes are what really made me sad.I dont usually get snobbish about food, and I grew up with instant mashed potatoes, but these were really not enjoyable.Maybe it was just an off day for that batch of potatoes?I still ate them as I dislike food waste, but I would definitely avoid them next time.My dinner even came with a choice of dessert. I picked the rice pudding, which was excellent and my favorite part of the meal by far!If Im in the area again Id love to try this place out for breakfast.You can truly tell it is beloved by locals, and for good reason!My only other piece of advice for the owners would be to change out the light bulbs for something a little warmer. The cool white light bulbs they have in the majority of the fixtures really clash with the vintage 70s vibes, especially the ones over the counter!This place has been going strong for 49 years. (Since 1975)I hope they keep going for another 49 at least!

I was staying at a friends house and asked if any of his local places did proper wholesome food and he recommended here! He also said it was family run, which a major plus for me, as I like to support such places if I can.We went along and after a fun chat with the waitress, placed our orders. We had soup and salad for starters, with absolutely delicious bread!Then we had Beef Pot Pie, with mashed potato, greens and thick gravy (Just like back in the UK). I have to say, it was delicious and I never thought Id be able to have a pie and gravy in the states, like back home.This was all finished with ice-cream and I have to say the Mint choc chip reminded me of the equivalent Viennetta from home. The taste and texture, identical, which was good.Overall, the experience was excellent and the food hit the mark perfectly. I wish we had a similar place back in the UK near me.

This place has been here for so long. It definitely stands out among all the Asian restaurants. It’s got that old diner feel inside. My dad and I used to pickup their pot pies by the dozen and just keep them in the freezer. My first time actually dining inside haha. The staff are super nice and welcoming. Nothing beats having one of their fresh pot pies. I had the dinner plate with and extra pot pie…I could’ve done without the extra, but I loved it.

Very comfortable family restaurant. Food is good, dinner includes the entre, soup or salad, and side. Best thing, it includes a dessert (couple of choices available). The chicken pie is great, the portion could be bigger (should have ordered the second pie for a little bit extra $).

Not that I would ever defend against bad service. It’s never justified in the service industry. But I can’t believe the recent posts. Wifey really lives pot pies and I was a bit nervous going to Moffett’s. Well Lisa provided pretty good service and the rest of the staff was courteous. So here is the deal. This place has been a staple for decades. Yes decades. They make exceptional pies. If you want eclectic modern boogie and pricey go elsewhere. If you remember school lunches of pot pies, or Mom making pot pie after holiday dinners, well come here and give yourself a treat. Yes the decor is dated, but it’s traditional and clean. Maintaining margins means managing costs on non core items. It’s about the pot pies, if you want a gigantic slice of dessert go elsewhere. The white meat chicken pot pie is great, the beef pot pie tasted like a good pot roast. Biscuits are phenom! The carrot salad is yummy! Bread pudding - well that was a bust, had a funny taste that I didn’t care for. Overall good core product and support a small biz. Once it’s gone and replaced with a mass franchisee, trust me you will moan about.

Nice cozy vibe. Tried the chicken pot die dinner and got SO MUCH food for the price! The pot pie was delicious! The carrots were soft and mildly sweet, you could tell they were fresh. Had my apple pie to go and got a hefty amount of crust (which I enjoy). Will definitely go back to try more. I am not a fan of mashed potatoes but theres was smooth and creamy to the taste. They sell the pies to go as well if you prefer to try it at home.

Not going to lie its been a rough year for restaurants and breakfast restaurants specifically. I used to frequent both rods and Goldsteins, both have sadly closed. Needing a new comfortable place for breakfast, I noticed new signage outside Moffetts advertising breakfast.After trying it, I can confirm the breakfast is as good as all the other food so many others glow about consistently. We tried the breakfast quesadilla which had eggs, cheese, bell pepper, and tomato. It was cooked well and I cant wait to try their breakfast burritos.Looking forward to trying the rest of their menu slowly over time.

Pretty good! Did take out, and next time Ill eat in for breakfast. I thought the pies would be pot pies but they were hand pies which means they were very cheap. And also we got a turkey sandwich, turkey breast, on sourdough, and it was so tasty. Fun old family style restaurant

This place has been on my no-go list for a long time, and Im glad I finally came! Old-school vibe! Theyve been here since the 70s. Dont mind the Faux News on the background. Just bring a friend, and have a wonderful conversation, and eat plenty of good food.It was annoying that our order wasnt remembered, but at least she checked in with us to make sure the order was finally right. It did take a while, but that means everything is fresh!

This is a hidden gem in Arcadia selling meat pies. Got the Lunch special $8.60 + one beef pie. It was delicious but tasted just slightly better than KFC. They also sell fruit pies and side dishes at the bakery counter. Service was excellent though and the food was served in less than 5 minutes. Definitely worth checking out.

The Chicken Pot Pie is definitely the reason to get through the door. Then their homemade bread melts in your mouth wonderfully. An over all pleasant mom and pop American cuisine experience.Our unexpected 25 top party an hour before closing did put a strain on the waiters, chef and cooks.$550 tab was not a big jump in the bank for all of us.Nick

I had my first ever moffetts chili fries. There is a catch though. They dont sell it. But you can make it yourself and let me tell you its amazing!! Order the Chilli bowl stew and order of fries and all the goodies and your set! Will come back soon!

They use the newest hand-held unit for credit card processing which adds on a surcharge for using and also has the paywall for tipping, which creates an awkward moment when not a sit-down diner. I order their frozen individual pot pie to take home and am not accustomed to either the surcharge or tipping for this brief transaction. I didnt tip this time nor do I plan to in the future. If I return I will know to bring cash. I took away one star.

Totally old school place oddly located in a little plaza I loved the clam chowder tons clams and it had a great flavor. The pot pies are so cool I havent seen anything like these any other place in LA. And s cool little touch that loved being from the east coast was franks hot sauce on all the tables so cool the gravy was yummy but one thing that was sub par was the green beans they are straight from the can, took away from the taste of the rest of the meal but overall really good

We heard about this place from a friend. Was little hard to find at first a little shop hidden in the strip mall area. The staff was nice friendly clean. Immediately seated. Orders the chicken pot pie dinner for 13.95 each . Come with choice of of soup, salad, or cottage cheese. .. a chicken pot pie. Mashed potatoes and gravy and peas. And a slice of pie . ...Now Im used to the veggies being in the chicken pot pie, but 5here was only chicken and sauce.Over all it did taste good .

Went in last night with my wife and kid, after we had gotten our pot pie dinners, we found them to be cold. After we informed our waitress, some other woman came out with a meat thermometer, poking my pie, showing a temp of 122, after i informed her that the pie should have an internel temp of at least 160, she told me i was wrong because then id be burning myself.I wasnt trying to get one over on a sub par pot pie, with soggy crust, instant potatoes all drowned in cold gravy you can tell was made with a powder mix, with canned green beans.I didnt understand this womans point on coming out from the kitchen with a meat thermometer just to oppose my opinion on cold food

I’ve been meaning to try this place out, and Moffett’s has been around forever!We got a chicken pie (dark and white meat), to go. The restaurant is closed for dine-in, but the staff at the counter were quick and very nice. One pie was less than $5!The pie crust was delish - buttery, flaky and light. As for for the filling, it was good but not ‘wow,’ ya know? No veggies like peas or carrots or potatoes, but loaded with chicken and gravy. I would have liked more crunch/texture.Overall, I love that Moffett’s is around for a home-ie, old-schooly vibe. Nice staff and good prices.

For the best chicken pies anywhere visit this place! Moffetts is a family restaurant with a variety of things on their menu but I made the drive up from Long Beach because of their chicken pies. I remember going to their place in Bellflower and was sad to see that location close. I never knew about their location in Arcadia which has been there for 47 years and I was overjoyed to know its there. You can also buy their pies at a Dutch store on Artesia and also at the Farmers Market in LA. Just chicken, pastry and gravy. You can get all white meat or my favorite which is light and dark. Definitely worth the drive!

Oldest of the old school with a small menu and chicken pot pie as their specialty. They were out of beef PP but I had the yummy noodles and chicken. Chicken was good and noodles was what I think is down south style, chopped noodles. Need some S&P bit a yummy dinner with whipped mashed and delicious carrots. Dinner included salad and dessert which is as old school as it gets. Great place for a no frills meal. Lots of to go orders and uncooked pies available.

Moffetts is a great place to eat. They are most famous for their chicken pies (as the name implies). Its somewhere between a pot pie and a hand pie in size. The meat inside is generous, and comes with either white meat or dark meat. They are sold either freshly baked or cold (to be baked at home) in the large display case.Also love the beef pie, which unlike the chicken pie, comes with mixed vegetables inside!All in all, friendly hole-in-the-wall restaurant with good service and good food!

My dad loves the chicken pie here, I would say the food is good and great for the price. Throughout the years they kept with the quality. They are not serving magnificent food but honest, old fashion American food. The menu stayed the same since I was kid. I like the slow down, old fashion diner food and atmosphere here. It one of the last ones in Arcadia. Dont expect the be serve too quickly because since COVID they are often short-staffed and people usually go eat at the same time. I remember that one time, there was just one waitress. So you just have to be patient.

Big portions and a great deal with the extra pie to take home for a second meal. Took home rhubarb pie for dessert and that was yummy too. I must have come in on a REALLY bad day seeing how many positive reviews this place gets cause the chicken pot pie dinner we got was so bad I wish I could give it back. We got carrots as our “veggies” along with some bread, chili, and gravy. Everything was soggy and under-seasoned. They gravy was cold and under-seasoned, bread while warm was soggy to bite into, the carrots seemed steamed and soggy, the pie crust, soggy, the chicken looked like just leftover white meat that they stuffed inside. I really wanted like this place but honestly I’ve had better chicken pot pies microwaved from Costco. The dessert pie was a mixed berry but the crust was so thin and chewy I could hardly call it a crust. Berries and jam did not seem integrated together, felt like they were two separate things haphazardly combined. Even premade pie crusts are better than these. Can’t believe it was 26$ for the quality of food.

Moffetts has been sold. They have new owners and unfortunately they are not good people!I let the new owner know that his blue cheese had me vomiting in the restroom. Old school restaurant basically dedicated to dispensing perfect chicken pot pies. We usually get unbaked pies to go and put them in the oven (instructions printed on the box!). The family meal is a great deal: 4 pies, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, gravy, and bread for under 35 bucks. And, in case you were wondering, the pies freeze really well!

The chicken pot pies are unique and delicious. The service was good, but I must say that the ambiance and friendliness of being in a country restaurant was much better when they were in Lakewood/Bellflower area. The old restaurant was similar to Cracker Barrel restaurants, and well missed. They do sell a variety of dessert pies, but when I went most were sold out. All in all, it was worth the drive and plan to go back.

I have been wanting to try this place forever and i have to say my first time there was not enjoyable becuz of the rude waitress !!! Finally did tonite BUT the waitress is very, very rude and needs people skills bad !!!! She got zero tip from me too. She totally ignored me, and served someone else who sat down after me !!!! ( she claimed she thought i was waiting for someone else ) i never ever said that AND she never asked that !!! And she never once came to my table to check on me or ask how i was or if i needed anything. i did leave BUT went back in, to tell them ( planning to talk to someone up front ) but she saw me, and asked if i forgot something. So, i told her that i normally always leave a tip but she ignored me and was rude and it wasnt cool. She made some excuse or whatever. This restaurant is what I call returning to the good old days.Like an episode from Ozzie and Harriet.No frills pot pies that are homemade.A relative recommended this restaurant to me the last time I was in LA.I reminded him on this recent trip to take me there because I told him I was looking for a place that served liver and onions.Moffetts is one of the oldest family style restaurants in the area.The locals know about this location.They serve you either soup or salad, freshly baked loaf bread, a main dish and dessert.Not bad for $15.I got several chicken pot pies to go and they were yummy.Homemade and filled with lots of chicken.The white meat pot pie was a little dry but the half dark and half white meat one was perfect.I am going to try the beef pot pie on my next visit.I recommend you give it a try.

I grew up a couple of blocks from this place and even make occasional trips from Santa Monica specifically to get some fresh mixed pies to take home. These pies are so beloved, they used to be one of the Thursday night carb up meals for the Temple City High School football team.Unfortunately, I hope TCHS has stopped feeding these pies to their kids because something has clearly changed. The taste has all but gone away and my partner and I have had two miserable post-pie experiences. This past weekend, I wanted to give them a final chance. Nothing has improved. The tops of the pies were haphazardly slapped on to the top of the pies (Ive never had so much excess crust, to the point where I had enough dough to make repairs on the top). What a disappointing chapter in the decline of my home town.And to the owner directly... When a customer had their hand out for their debit card, refrain from tossing it down like your cooks with the pie tops and kindly hand it to them.

I don’t understand all the positive reviews for this place!We got a chicken pot pie dinner and the southern fried chicken dinner, and they were both bland and tasteless. The green beans were so pale and bland as well. And I will be very surprised if the mashed potatoes were not from a box (they had the texture and aftertaste of the traditional dehydrated mashed potatoes many of us grew up on).We would not have been surprised if Gordon Ramsey popped out of one of the booths and took off his disguise to announce this restaurant was on one of his makeover shows.Considering the other amazing food in this same neighborhood, I really don’t understand why this place is so highly rated.

On the usually neglected review topic of the taste of their drinking water, it tastes really good and you can tell their drinking water carefully filtered. Average food, poor service. Waitress was talking to a customer while holding our plates for a long time. I almost did not eat my plate. When we paid, the owner (I assume) thrower the credit card back to me, which I thought probably just by mistake, but then he followed by yelling at me as I picked up my receipt. Great home cooking. A very unique type of restaurant that has great comfort food. The chicken and noodles is outstanding as are all of their chicken and beef pot pies. Ive had their sandwiches, their hamburgers, everything is always delicious and homemade. I like that they have a refrigerated counter with bean salad, gravy, mashed potatoes, etc you can take to go. You can also take home fresh or frozen pot pies or even bring in your own casserole dish and they will fill it for you. It is definitely a go to if you live in or are visiting Arcadia.

Arcadia has a plethora of old restaurants - ie, restaurants that have been around for many years. The Derby is one, Rods is another, and then theres Moffetts. The table next to us was served their dessert and the check while we sat and tried to flag down our waitress for the dessert and check. 20 minutes literally of sitting and waiting she comes by and we told her we want the pie to go. She doesn’t even thank us or anything after dropping the check and pie into our table. Terrible waitress I wish I had her name. We head up to the register to pay and we all split the check between us 3. My brother hands the man cash, and waits in the back. My girlfriend hands him her card and he hands it back to her but when I hand him my card he kinda tosses it back to me on the table with the receipt to sign. I’m thoroughly didsapointed in the customer service. 3/10 on service but the food even though my appetizer was mixed up and not even comped or replaced at most is 9/10. Good home food, all American comfort. This review may seem over done to you but this is exact to the experience and I wanted to share it openly with you all so you know what you’re in for. Went there while waiting for a tb test from minuteclinic inside cvs. Ordered the blue burger abd broccoli cream soup. Soup was good and burger was questionable. Most blue burgers have chunks of blue cheese in them with some dressing to have that bite blue cheese is famous for. At this place they just nake a regular cheese burger and pour blue cheese topping on top of the inside resulting in a very weak blue cheese flavor. Inside is nice and welcoming. Not super bright so you can get lost in your thoughts. Ordering hot teas cone fron a packet with a cuo of hot water and a refill in a metal tea pourer with a slice of lemon and no cream/milk unless you ask for it (and even then you get enough for basically one serving my style). Not a lot of smiles and welcomes unless youre a regular so its a no emotion place and waitress may have had a bad day but was listening but not looking at the customer when she spoke to her which a lot of people consider rude when they cone to eat at a family restaurant. Maybe that is how they treat their family.

The food was average,the service was slightly below average and the manager is rude,he appears to argue with cust.rather than make them feel at home,i take my family out for dinner as a treat and go to be waited on!i thought that was theyre job to wait on cust.and to make them feel confortable so they would want to come back,i have been here several times and every time the same treatment!possibly some selective treatment going on here,i refuse to go back to this restaraunt!
