If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would.First when arriving the hotel looks worn down and old the pictures online definitely deceived me. I arrived around 3:30pm hoping after my long travels I can go into my room. Well guess what my room STILL wasnt ready! Even though there check in time is 3pm! I waited almost an hour until my room was ready . Once I arrived to my room I noticed we had only two towels (there was two of us) so I went looking for the house keeping for an additional towel. When I asked I was given a ton of attitude saying there is already two towels in your room its two per room I was like I know but can I please get an extra towel. After some back and forth I was FINALLY granted an additional towel. Then for some odd reason every single day we left our room our key cards would stop working completely. So there we go asking for new key cards EVERY SINGLE DAY. The room was stinky and the flooring carpet was peeling and the shower drain wouldnt let water go down. Oh yeah and dont forget a lot of bugs that randomly appear. Since I booked with Hotels they tried reaching out for some sort of refund or compensation and of course they refused! I wouldnt recommend staying here nor would I come back!

The room was small and it’s old building. No maintenance of the layout of the hotel. The exhaust fan in the bathroom makes annoying sound. The TV has some dots on the display. The same situation of the tv in reception as well. Upon asking they gave some irrelevant explanation. Bottom line is, they know the problems yet they haven’t fixed them. The queen size bed is much smaller than expected. Pool and spa were good. Service was good. No breakfast whatsoever. They will have grab to go items. Place needs car. Not accessible by walk or public transportation. No locker in the room. Lockers are available at reception.

This place had almost everything you ask for from a hotel. The room had soft and clean beds, strong water pressure, and a cold mini-fridge. The pool and hot tub were also nice and clean.The reasons the hotel lost a star from me was one of the front desk clerks wasn’t very polite and the lack of breakfast options.

The staff was helpful, bed was comfortable, place was quiet. But overall the grounds and room were in shabby condition. The walls were dirty looking and beat up. I think if they put a little money into some repairs and updates it would really help a lot. The hot tub was nice, pool was too cold for swimming. Water pressure was poor. The lock on our door kept sticking so we had to ask the desk for help several times. Breakfast is just granola bars and juice. Parking is $5 a night per car.

Dont be misled by the stock photos! This place is as run down as can be. The beautiful Japanese-inspired garden is from many dreams ago, probably before this hotel was bought by the current businessman. Its now unkempt and cordoned off. The notices (against doing anything) are posted all over the place- inside your room and outside on public areas, as if telling you not to touch anything, and for you to leave as soon as you check in and paid for the night. The whole ambiance is unwelcoming. No amenities to talk about. They even charge $5 for parking! Does not even deserve a star.

This was a great spot and option. we were going to Universal Studios and it was the perfect location without having to pay 500$ at the Sheraton. Checking in was easy and the front desk was friendly and helpful. our door wouldnt open so he came to help assist us. We were able to enjoy the hot tub and pool after a long day of travel! Honestly for the price we paid it was fine, beds were comfortable location seemed safe enough.

This review is a couple months after our stay because i kept forgetting to write it. But here we go!The price was great. We stayed for 2 nights and we were comfortable and pretty quiet. The bed was decent, the pillows were not to my liking, there were really soft. I like super firm pillows, so I wouldn’t say that was a bad thing. The bathroom was a decent size, clean and, I loved the shower. Towels were clean and nice.The best part is the location. You’re not far from anything. Universal studios was a short drive away. Lots of food nearby, and a connected restaurant that we didn’t try. And it’s close to the 101 entrance/exit.A short drive to Hollywood and Beverly Hills too!Now for the negatives. The tv was small and the sound wasn’t great. The room could use some updating. The carpet was older. The windows were those slat type. And some of the outlets didn’t work. They were old and definitely worn out.Parking was not great. Had I known the parking lot was in the back and on an upper level, i would have asked for a room in the back so I can park in front of the room. I like to keep an eye on my car because of what it is.Overall, I would stay here again next time I’m in the area. Thanks for a great stay!

Location wasn’t bad. Mainly went for a concert at the Hollywood bowl and it was very close. But not many good restaurants nearby. The rooms were clean and everything was available, except ac control in my room. The staff was very kind and a good price overall.

This place is not what it seems. It hasn’t been updated in over 30 years. There’s an infestation issue with insects and unsettling sketchy people. The staff members definitely have their favorites. The rooms located in the upper level in the front do not have working air conditioning units. The staff is told to sell the rooms to people they find less deserving. They also waive fees for certain clients and are discriminatory towards people they do not want at the hotel. It’s cheap but just know that it is not safe. The general Manager is aware of this and will ignore and not respond to emails she doesn’t find admirable.

Omg!!! We pull up to the hotel. Looks ok on the outside. As we enter the lobby, it looks like we are walking into a dated hotel. You can tell the hotel is cheap & does everything to remain frugal. There is a $100 deposit. They said nothing about this when we booked. We booked directly with the hotel.Got our key, go to our room that’s supposed to be disabled accessible. 1st thing, no bath chair in the shower. Slopes on bathroom floor dangerously slippery & a disabled person will have a dangerous fall. No slip resistant strips. Bathroom has mildew under the bathroom sink. Accidentally walked on the carpet without my shoes!! Yuck!! 🤢 I get my sister settled and decide to go to the jacuzzi we saw upon arrival. I go to the front desk to obtain a towel and attendant tells me the jacuzzi closed at 8:30!! What!?!? Now I cannot rest my body in some water after a 6 hour drive? Irritated,I go back to the room. I turn on the lamp light, microwave beeps off & on. Btw hair hanging from lamp shade. Filthy bath chair.WTH?!?! Electrical problems?!!The glass window panels took the cake!!?!?We only reserved for one night. We slept on top of the covers. The experience was ok. However, two problems I had at Mikado.1. The door card reader malfunctioned almost every time.2. The hot tube/pool closes at an outrageously early time, at 8pm. So, if you are on vacation exploring the city and want to relax at the hot tube AFTER your exhausting day, Mikado is NOT the place for you.If Im ever back at Hollywood, I am definitely not staying here.

I think it’s as clean as it can be but it definitely needs an update/some TLC. Rooms feel dirty, blanket on the bed is basically a napkin, and the walls are paper thin. Still, I’d stay here again for the convenient location, pricing, and the Thai food spot close by.

DO NOT STAY HERE! The dirtiest room we’ve ever stayed in. First off, it reeks in cigarette smoke even tho it’s supposed to be a non- smoking room.Second, room was weirdly set up, spacious but in a very odd way.Third, the bed literally stinks of sweat from the previous guest, it’s so obvious they didn’t change the pillowcases and sheets. It’s disgusting!Fourth, should I even keep going?! YOU SHOULD HAVE ALREADY DECIDED NOT TO STAY HERE. Anyways, the bathroom was atleast tidied up but by the looks of the whole room I still didn’t trust it was actually clean.Fifth, the walls were stained and in very bad condition. Same as all the furniture, the 2 tables and 3 chairs were all dirty and stinky! And my goodness the floor carpet was stained all over, I swear a vacuum can’t even clean it, they need to replace the whole damn floor.Lastly, they only have 2 lamps to light up the whole room, it’s very dark, WELL WELL WELL, it’s clearly for guests to not see the condition of the whole room! Disgusting. THIS HOTEL IS A JOKE

Expedia messed up on my reservations and they were full for the night. We had a granddaughter who is autistic and recovering from open heart surgery. She was struggling with the possible change in motel. they were able to get us into their extra emergency room. It was a wonderful stay. Crisis averted. Thanks so much.

I called the front desk around 12pm today, Saturday Feb 3rd 2024 to confirm a reservation I booked for a family member that starts Feb 4th. The male front desk clerk who answered the phone was rude, condescending and disrespectful. He was insisting that my reservation was not paid for and it was. He said I would need to be present with my family member. I asked him if I could please speak to a manager. He said he was insulted and would not let me speak to a manager and then proceeded to hang up the phone on me. I called back 5 more times and each time he picked up and hung up. I then called the reservations line and he picked up when I said hello and hung up again.I am trying to confirm and pay for a reservation. People like this should not be at any front desk at any establishment if they are assigned as the first line of communication with a customer trying to book a stay at your hotel for the first time. I am now worried about what kind of hotel this is and whether I should cancel.

Photos are a lie. Nothing has been up to date. Pillows felt like they were filled with marbles. Blankets were rough. Microwave didnt work. No basic medical care. The garden is fallen apart. No hot water. No breakfast!!!

Hotel is pretty nasty. But you get what you pay for. Should only be 20bucks a night thought. But my real rating is because Service was horrible!! Should have looked at the yelp reviews. There is a service desk person working here that is so unbelievably rude and confrontational the company should be ashamed of themselves. Some other reviews about this same person is on yelp too with his picture! and after my encounter I’m not surprised. Not sure why Universal Studios would ever promote this place….

I had forgotten to take pictures but the place was accommodating and helpful when we asked. The rooms were clean but it does need an update. The front desk is spacious and the hostess was kind enough to fix our room location so we got one close to the front desk, the pool and the parking area in the front. They do advice that you take everything with you from your vehicle so no theft occurs. Their is a parking fee. The bed was spacious and room was also. Though like I said they do need an update and I believe they did start on some rooms because from the pool view point some rooms didn’t have carpeting like mode did and had wooden floors. The fridge and television available were just perfect I was able to store my refrigerated foods inside so they wouldn’t go bad. The door has the usual locks and padlock on top as well as small windows. Not likely for others to look inside. As well as cleaning was great we arrived back from a family gathering and the room was clean and the house keeper put my sons stuffed animals onto the bed very neatly I thought that was sweet. The pool is not heated but the jacuzzi was available. And easy check out. Only downside was the update of decore to the room.

Clean room in a place next to a lot of fun locations. Used this as a two night base camp for universal studios. Hot tub was overfilled which was just mildly annoying. Room layout is interesting with some outdated fixtures and a almost comically small tv but again it was clean and comfy.

The room was spacious and clean and the sliding glass door was a must. Loved the balcony! The front desk staff were friendly and polite, allowing us to check in a bit early. We appreciated the quiet as my husband doesnt deal well with surprise noises. Its a good location close to places we needed and the freeway. The only slight negative was that someone had obviously been smoking pot in the room prior to our arrival but we just opened the sliding door as long as possible the first night and by the time I got back to the room the next day, the skunk smell was completely gone. Even with that issue, wed stay there again.

Prime location for NoHo vicinity. Parking is $5/day. Spacious room with a microwave, fridge, computer table, 1x dresser, 2x end tables, 2x chairs, TV, small coffee maker, and a bath tub. Nothing glamorous (I would say it’s in between a Best Western & a Motel 6) but for $155 on a Monday in this prime location, it was fine for our 1-night stay. FYI… the water in the shower is warm - no hot water. And, don’t walk around bare foot because the bottom of your feet will be dirty - the carpet has not been steam cleaned. (We wore flip flops to walk around the room & were fine.)

The rooms could use a little remodeling, but thats my only complaint and it shouldnt stop you from booking your stay at the Mikado. The place was clean and the beds were so comfy. Every member of the staff I crossed paths with was so very friendly and the whole experience was wonderful. Close enough to everything without being overpriced. Great restaurant on site. I really appreciated that we were about to check in a little early on short notice. I know that cant be accommodated all the time but after a very long flight I sure was grateful. I checked out at 4am having to catch an unexpected early flight home and it was easy peasy. I would stay here again a hundred times. Thank you!

This hotel is far from fabulous. Our accommodations were ok but nothing spectacular. The room was clean but could be updated. The pool was clean and enjoyable. That was about the only good thing to say regarding our experience. Just an FYI, there is no manager on duty. If you have an issue, you are told that the manager works remotely. There is no way to get in touch with anyone other than sending an email that does not get any response back. The lobby and the pool area are clean, but the grounds area is in serious need of maintenance. There once was a beautiful pond, bridge, and grounds area. The bridge is closed off, the pond is really disgusting, and there are dry withering plants. The pictures online are old and deceiving. We fortunately stayed on the poolside, so we did not need to see that. The gate to the pool was broken, so we were told that we needed to put our hand over the top and pull the latch from the inside to get in. The front desk staff was as accommodating as they could be. However, it was clearly evident that the management does not respect the staff. It seemed as if they are so scared to do anything that is out of the realm that would please customers and make their experience better because it would be deviating from the procedures and would put their job at risk. I would not recommend staying here if at all possible. Just the lack of customer service and disregard from management to handle any concerns is a reason not to stay here. You are better off paying a little more money to stay at a place that has better ambiance and customer service skills. Such a major disappointment, especially in a city like Los Angeles.

Once we checked in we went into our room and one of the bed were completely broke down and we could feel the springs and the wood, the room had a smell, room was very outdated. We asked to move to a different room and the second room had ants, the door did not have a great seal and had issue unlocking at night when we tried using our key card in which they told us to pull on the door when unlocking, the TV had backlighting issues which you could see spots on it, the patio door curtains were dirty and stained from people toching them, staff was rude and inconsiderated especially when asking for toiletries and they would not bring them to the room. Since the hotel is under new ownership the stay was not anywhere like we remember from 5 years ago and would not stay there again. The new owners are letting the Hotel run down and not updating the rooms.

This is my 2nd time staying at this hotel when I’ve visited from my hometown in TX and let me just say the staff have made it such a great experience both times! Every other year when I’ve tried to book, it’s been fully booked so this time around I made sure to book ahead of time and I’m so glad I did! Universal Sdios and the Hollywood Walk of Fame is just down the street (a few mins down). I have a 10 year old and he prefers to be at the motel rather than being out. And the very first time we stayed here my son was 5 and he LOVED this hotel, so I knew then I had to make sure I kept a business card in my wallet and I’ve had it since. Another thing I wanted to add on was that we were going to eat our dinner one night and realized we didn’t have silverware . So we called the front desk to see if they had any extras and the lady at the receptionist that answered offered to give us hers. I knew then that this hotel really cared about their clients. 10/10, I definitely recommend!

It was pretty average hotel. The hotel location was good though the parking lot could be way better because it is limited in the front and then back. It is really for compact cars. The hotel is not too noisy and would recommend for 2-4 people in a room. I wish that the hotel had a queen bed option but their biggest bed size was a full bed. The services did their job and it was alright they had iron press and coffee machine and fridge and microwave. The floor is carpet and the bathroom was really clean. Average size room but wished everything was a bit bigger.

This place was just okay. I picked it because it was a fairly short drive to Universal studios. The rooms are dated with not a lot of places to plug in your electronics to charge. Beds were very, very firm, and for my personal preference that was uncomfortable for four nights. They do charge you for parking for a small lot that is half shared by the restaurant that is on the same property. It was never so busy or inconvenient for us to get to our room, but we did always have to take stairs from 2nd level parking to our 1st floor room. One positive is I didnt really notice our neighboring rooms or the restaurant/bar customers, so the room was mostly quiet.I will give kudos to a very friendly and professional staff who did a spectacular job with helping us and ensuring our room was very clean.

I thought the Mikado Hotel was fine, clean rooms, comfortable bed, the only drawback the the clerk at the front desk. Not a people person, he was checking me in as another couple who stayed there was walking out double doors, he literally said, “don’t you know how to exit those doors read the sign!” I assume there was a problem with the doors when they shut. Then back to my checkin, I ask him to split the total tab $100.00 deposit and the $466.00 room charges between to credit cards as my credit card had been hacked bf arriving there, he looked straight at me and mumbled behind a mask with glass barrier in front of him, “that’s not a option. So I put deposit on one card and total room on another. He was not customer friendly nor pleasant. Gave no receipt of my refundable $100.00 deposit for incidentals, and advised it takes 7-10 days for reimbursement of the deposit. I went by on my way out with friends and ask if I could get a receipt for the deposit showing payment? He is just so reactive saying yes I’ll do it right now. I said any time is fine, but no he made it a huge deal stopping what he was doing to print it and commented on my signature??? Okay fine, but there is nothing in the room refrigerator so not sure why the deposit exists, I assume for any damage in the room during my stay? I don’t damage others property so this property would be well advised to keep him away from guests, he’s not a friendly desk clerk. imo. The rest of the staff, maids were kind helpful and attentive. He’s my only complaint. He should be in the he back room balancing the books if that’s his strong point, not behind desk yelling at customers staying there!

Hotel was reasonably priced with a restaurant right next door. Parking is a little tight. The walls are also very thin, so you can hear all the steps your neighbors take. The receptionist was friendly and lobby was very nice and clean. Overall happy with what I got for the price I paid. Would definitely stay again.

Room 215 looks like it hasnt even updated since the 70s. Dont get me wrong the room was spacious for 2 people but the carpet NEEDS to go 🤢.The bed was HARD. Im pregnant and need to sleep on my side and I kid you not, when I woke up my hip felt bruised, thats how firm the bed is. Pillows were awful so bring your own. The walls are in need of new wallpaper OR at least a good scrub down. Im pretty sure my grandma owned the lamps in the room lol again needs an upgrade and dusting. The mini fridge worked, it could have been cooler in temp.Since we had an end room we heard the sounds from the street as well as loud neighbors. The curtains kept out the sun light BUT there was a window on the ceiling so it welcomed the sunlight in the morning. The AC and Heat worked well. Our sink didnt really drain fast. The water pressure in the shower was good, the water was hot 👍🏼. The staff was very nice which is why I gave 2 stars. Overall you get what you pay for and the location to Hollywood was great. But this hotel NEEDS some updates.There is a great bar within walking distance from the hotel as well as a hooka lounge so no need to drive and park .

Pros: Worth it at the rate of $90/night I booked it for. Location near Universal. Pool was nice. All the employees were nice too.Cons: Needs an update. Wallpaper was peeling, paint was chipping. Our A/C didn’t really work. I think the fan was just blowing in slowly cooling the room, but didn’t really hit what we set it to. Bed was pretty hard and the thinnest pillows ever.Overall, I would stay again, but only for under $100/night and I’d definitely bring my own pillow too. I overbooked this hotel through a travel site.It was my mistake first, so I canceled one booking through the site and called to the hotel right away.I tried to ask about the handling of the refund. Very cool hotel. A bit dated but Anthony at the front desk was amazing. He was extremely accommodating. It seemed that a few people were really giving him a hard time by yelling at him, but he was very professional by not responding with any type of aggression which was very admirable. I did feel badly for him as twice I came in the lobby and a few guys were yelling at him; but he was extremely calm and patient. I’ve never seen anything like it. I was shocked when he told me he was not in management as I thought he was the owner. Anthony is extremely kind and people should not yell at him because they are upset. I will be coming back in the future.

Not how it used to be.. Dirty, Dingy, and Cold.. My wife and I have stayed at the Mikado many times since 2010 when there was water in the courtyard fountain, this week was our first time back in about 4 years and its not the same. It seems like that have made no effort in keeping the place up. There were multiple stains on the walls and carpets, the wallpaper was peeling, the floor was lumpy and made loud noises when you walked, like boards were loose, and the mini windows that fold to close, could not be closed all the way because the handle to close them was broken, so it got really cold. The hotel has gone down hill. I can say that I love hard beds and I slept ok despite the room looking bad. This hotel is definitely not worth the price of $110 a night anymore. And now they charge $5 for parking, they never charged parking before. I hope they make an effort to do a few little things to make it look better. All I can say is this is not a 3 star hotel anymore maybe a 2 or 1.5. My wife and I did feel safe in the hotel but the rating needs to change. And I know the owner or manager might reply to this comment and all I can say is make this the hotel it used to be. It has alot of great potential and my wife and I had some great memories here.

This is absolutely the WORST hotel I have ever lived to see and be in. I honestly don’t think any hotel can top how bad this hotel is. Staff is extremely unhelpful extremely rude and arrogant. Lost my wallet here and they absolutely refused to do anything to help me include rewind the cameras (30+ of which they have per the front desk). Called the police to have them involved. Wouldn’t refund my room, wouldn’t initially check me in when I asked but when I lost my wallet they absolutely couldn’t check me in. Anthony is the rudest human being to ever exist. When I asked when the actual manager comes in he said she comes and goes as she wants and is remote so there’s no actual way of knowing when she’s here. Anthony got so defensive and arrogant saying I was disrespecting him and his job when I called this fiasco extremely unorganized. Starting screaming for me to leave and kept repeating “BYE!” over and over at me until I told him to call the police. Extremely disappointed.

The hotel is a little dated and you can tell that its older by how rooms look. They are not bad looking rooms and have a modern look to some degree. However, there are some improvements which would do the rooms good such as a deep cleaning and hanging some pictures up over damaged portions of the wall due to age. The staff were all friendly and very helpful now, and the motel is located in a very good section of the city where many stores restaurants bars and grills are located. I enjoyed my stay and I would definitely stay again.

Listen up people! The Mikado Hotel isnt the Four Seasons, so if youre expecting luxury, forget it. The rooms are somewhat dated but theyre clean and comfortable, and they smell good, unless someone smoked in it, but if that happens just tell them and theyll let you change rooms. There is no room service, but there is a restaurant on property with pretty good sushi and a variety of other food choices (you can even get spam sushi lol). They have a nice patio with outside seating, so overall the restaurants atmosphere is very welcoming, the service is good, and I felt very comfortable and relaxed while I was there. The prices are reasonable and the portions are satisfying. Just be aware that you cant charge to your room. The last time I ate there they gave me a discount because I was a hotel guest, which was very nice! Hotel parking is $5 per day, and for L.A. thats cheap, the most important thing is that its safe to park there...so far I havent had any issues. The other hotel guests mind their own business, and Ive never had any problems with anyone. It has always been quiet every time I have stayed. Its funny, even though its near a busy freeway, I wasnt able to hear the sound of traffic in my room and it never bothered me. Overall, its peaceful and quiet, which is something that I really enjoy. There is a choice of bed size and quantity, but the king rooms are the ones with the balconies, which is what I always book. The sheets are white, crisp and clean and they always smell good. The pillows are plentiful but lumpy, and the beds arent as comfortable as the Marriott, but when Im not being picky theyre just fine. I had a very restful nights sleep during my last stay, which is the most important thing...so just bring your own pillow if you dont like lumpy pillows. The towels are white, clean and fluffy, and way better quality than a lot of the more expensive hotels Ive stayed at, which I love a lot. The bath tubs are too small to take a nice long luxurious bubble bath, theyre too shallow for my preference, but at least the rooms have a tub and not just a shower. Even so, I enjoyed a hot bath the last time I stayed and was happy with the bath amenities as well. Every room has a Keurig coffee maker, microwave and a fridge, and theres a grocery store down the street to stock up for your stay. No minibar either, but there are a couple of liquor stores nearby, so not a big deal. The rooms have central air conditioning, but the room temp stays well above 70 in the hot summer months, so if you want a cold room in August or September you might want to stay somewhere else, or go for a dip in the pool, which closes too early in my opinion (normally around 9 pm I believe). In the summer the water is nice and warm, and the deep end is 9 feet, which is amazing and you can actually dive in, and do some really good cannonballs! The large jacuzzi was wonderful and usually empty, so I had the whole thing to myself on several occasions! Overall I recommend this hotel for the reasonable prices, comfort, amenities, and location. The bottom line is If youre really super picky and you want luxury and 5 star accommodations, you should stay somewhere else. If you do stay there and want to complain about everything, my advice is to just forget it and go live your life. Cheers!

This hotel is trash and will remain that way as long as Anthony remains an employee there. Long story short my daughter lost her wallet either in the hotel lobby or right outside of it. Staff member Anthony would neither let her check in because she didnt have ID nor provide information about when management would be in to review camera footage to see what happened to her wallett. I have stayed at this hotel at least 5 different times in the past 5 years since I travel to LA fairly often. The hotel is always clean and has a quiet courtyard and nice pool and hot tub for a reasonable price. The Polynesian restaurant on site is also very good and you can dine overlooking the pool. Minuses are that they charge you extra for parking each night and sometimes the front desk people are not as helpful as they could be. I will be staying there again this summer and will update my review then.

Cockroaches were in my room when I woke up on the first morning of my stay. I called asking to check out, but the receptionist apologized and said shell send a staff right away to clean it. I met the staff, she cleaned it, she said she would bring a team to thoroughly clean the room. We appreciated the effort and decided to stay. The next day, my friend wanted to eat breakfast and opened the mini fridge only to find another cockroach roaming around. We left immediately at around 6am.We called front desk to ask for a refund and was only given about $15 - to waive the parking. I tried to call the hotel and email the manager. However, they were not willing to give actual refunds for the room.$15 or parking ticket waiving is not a fair amount for having two cockroaches in my room. After trying to resolve this issue with the hotel directly and not receiving any reasonable resolution - I filed a dispute for the hotel bill with my bank; Mikado responded to my bank saying that they cannot give me a refund because my friend and I stayed the entire reservation. I am disappointed. We only continued to stay because their staff apologized and did actually come right away to clean the room. Unfortunately, it wasnt actually clean or perhaps there was a cockroach manifestation in my room - and another cockroach showed up the next morning inside the mini fridge. We didnt continue to stay and linger at this point. We left immediately.I expected a full refund because this is clearly gross. I regret staying and not leaving right away. Not only that another cockroach was found, the hotel used our staying the next day as a reason to not give us a refund.I will not be returning to Mikado Hotel.Edit: I read the reply from the owner this morning but I cannot reply to it; so I’m editing my post and replying here — Hi Mikado, thanks for replying. While I appreciate the apology, I tried for months to resolve this with you privately first only for you to still refuse to give a reasonable refund. Perfect location! Santa Monica is 30 minutes away, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is 15 minutes away, Universal Studios is 10 minutes away, Six Flags Magic Mountain/Hurricane Harbor is 30 minutes away, and theres tons of local dispensaries around the area. The pool was great with the depth from 5 feet to 9 feet which is very difficult to find in a hotel. Big plus for adults. The rooms are a bit small with a small bathroom but the private balcony makes up for it for the rooms on the second floor. I love the fact that even though our room was on the second floor, you can drive to the back and it takes you up a hill to your room. Parking was only $5/night. Pool closes at 8. I knew we made a mistake when we pulled into this location. All the reviews on booking. Com were good, of course, once you book with them there is no refund. We walked into the lobby it was old and not well maintained, and walking to the room the outside lobby was closed off and looked pretty bad. We got to the room the Key Fob didnt work, the door mechanism was lose and broken, we finally made it into the room as we entered we were greeted with a must of stale and moldy damp smell. The carpet was dirty and old its starting to wrinkle and fold over, the walls had stains, the sheets also had numerous stains, and there were areas of repairs that have not been completed. We were in town for a birthday party, the hotel was so bad we ended up driving back home, we lost out on $180.00, this place is unacceptable and I strongly suggest you do not stay here.

Hotel room was fairly dirty, mold in the bathroom and shower, and water leaked through the ceiling onto the bed. Ants were everywhere. I could not stay here with my 3 children, we had to leave. They did refund me the second day but would not refund me the first night, even though I feel the bloodstains are a deal-breaker on their end, not meeting the expectations they set when booking the room. That being said the one staff person I interacted with was very nice and courteous, but didnt care very much when I mentioned the bloodstains and mold. Since I could not get a refund on my visit and paid for my room anyway there isnt much else I can do than to warn others to not do the same. If they allow dirty rooms like this I could only imagine what lies under the sheets or behind the walls :/

The area is convenient, with the freeway close, along with Ralphs not too far, and several smoke shops also! Parking in the back parking lot is awesome bc you can park right in front of your room!! And I wish at least the hot tub was open at least a few extra hours later so it could be enjoyed after returning back from dinner plans.

According to some guy on the webs, its the best sushi in town. The showers in the hotel dump water faster than Ive ever witnessed before, but hey, at least I got showered in 1 - 2 minutes. They didnt have USB chargers would be my only complaint, but thats minor. For some reason there was an unopened Corona on the sidewalk for 2 days, and no one could tell me why!

I let them know ahead of time that it was my birthday & they treated me to a personalized card &a bag full of snacks! The front desk team was so sweet & helpful & the grounds are very well kept! I LOVED my room here. I didnt realise I would have a balcony so of course that was a very welcome surprise. It was very large and spacious inside & the beds are heaven! We did have a random issue with the shower not working at some point but the team handled it well.. Came in & offered a different rooms bathroom while they fixed it & had it all fixed & cleaned up in no time. I will definitely be back.

I guess timing is everything. I came to this hotel last week and had the best of service, a decent room that was fresh and clean and two pairs of slippers for the shower. This past weekend I I went to this hotel looking for the same. I received poor service, the price was $60 more, the room smelled of cigarettes and had stuff all over the walls, it is locked up throughout the hotel so you have to literally walk all the way around through dark alley ways to get to the front if you need anything. There is no phones in the room to contact the lobby, there was no slippers available, and both times that I walked back to the lobby, I had to wait outside for the 1 attendant yo come back from running errands. Not to mention, people are up with their doors open and multiple trash bags outside of their door (possibly living there). I have changed my mind on recommendations for this hotel other than, not going. Spend the extra $20 for the Marriott.

The Mikado Hotel is what left of a three and a half star hotel from 1967. The bones of this hotel are worn and tired which creak loudly while trying to get a good nights sleep. I thought for sure the giants in the room above would come crashing through the ceiling at anytime with each loud thud and squeak. I was very surprised the following morning when I saw the same family loading into their vehicle to be quit petite. Just the hotels very thin walls! The beds are small and hard with average sheets and outdated stained comforters. Theres a strange smell coming from the vents and mold hiding behind the bathroom doors. The staff was polite but well trained in following the policys of the hotel without waiver. Check in time is 3 and not a minute earlier and dont dare try and take a banana out of the breakfast area (which was your basic cereals, cheap toast and frozen hash browns). The upside of this hotel is its only a five minute commute to Universal Studios Hollywood

(Glad I brought my own) the pillows were hard. My party had a total of 3 rooms for the weekend and everyone had the same consensus.And to finish the bad experience off when I checked out of the room I accidentally left my debit card and some cash that I hide when out of town in the night stand and did not realize my mistake untill I was back in Phx 8 hrs later. I called the front desk immediately and explained the situation, and exactly where I had put the items. I was informed that no one had checked into the room and housekeeping had located nothing while cleaning it but I should call back the next day so they could speak to housekeeping. So I did, The next day I called bright and early and asked for an update, low and behold nothing was ever found. I understand it was a mistake on my part and Ive made my peace with loosing that cash but at this point I would undeniably state If you can stay away from Mikado, dont overpay like I did. The grounds within are nice and the room is clean, but the decor and room need some upgrades (tile, walls). I stayed in room 227 second floor. My room and BED was infested with silverfish. I told the receptionist and at first he said there are no other rooms. I had him follow me back to my room and he immediately had a room available when he saw my bed. It was beyond disgusting. Cant believe I paid $179 plus tax to get traumatized.

Great hotel, we werent expecting much but the hotel was lovely safe and clean! Big bed and spacious room. Was a great change staying in this side of town and actually much better than LA/Hollywood. Easy to get to shops, restaurants and easy peasy parking! Thank you!

The hotel was great. And its location is sublime. But unfortunately the staff leave something to be desired.When we booked our few nights stay we specifically chose this one because it said on the website that breakfast was included. However they refused to honer it and insisted we pay 10 per day per person(5 of us). When we showed them the printed out page they got extremely rude and disrespectful towards us and still refused. They claimed because we got our room at discount from another website that they wouldnt give us our free breakfast. We read the terms and conditions to them but they didnt care. They were complete jerks to us. So we had to make other breakfast plans that were not in our budget.TL;DR great hotel, great location, terrible staff and management.

Booked through Hotwire so we didnt know what we were going to get. The hotel was old. Check in staff wasnt very helpful ( your room is over there, eat breakfast in the morning). The double bed was tough on the outside but sagged in the middle. Lots of moldy spots growing on bathroom ceiling. We checked in at 10pm and were out by 7am so we didnt complain. I wouldnt stay here again.

The room was comfortable and clean, air conditioning, staff was very kind. The only downside is that there is no elevator, so if somebody has a room on the second floor, the stairs are hard to get up with certain disabilities. Id definitely stay there again though 😊

I always stay at the Mikado when in town for business. It is close to the freeways that can take you anywhere in the LA area. The rooms are always clean and I love the big screen TV and comfy bed.I usually stay a week or two at a time so the refrigerator and micro always come in handyThey have a beautiful blue tiled pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast is complimentary and the well known Mikado Japanese Restaurant is attached to the hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful and always there to answer any questions you have about the area.

This place needs a rebuild long ago. It was dirty, run down, falling apart and I do not recommend it at all. I booked a room with 2 queen beds and they gave me smaller beds. This place is Motel 6 quality.

3000 dollars worth of valuables (laptop, handbags, jewellery and makeup) was stolen from my locked hotel room within an hour of checkin after I had stepped briefly. There was no forced entry and the burglar used a hotel key card. The burglar only targeted the room with the most valuables (was travelling with a group of friends). There is a strong possibility that the hotel receptionist who checked us in that night is the one that stole my posessions. They refused to review the CCTV after the theft was reported or call the police. The manager is extremely rude and unhelpful. I strongly suspect that she was in on this theft and knows that her staff occasionally steals guests. They never reimbursed me for this loss or followed up. Please dont stay at this hotel. Choose a more decent hotel.

The manager is correct - I originally underscored this hotel on my first go round and thought Id add a few words to clarify. The Mikado Hotel is a two star hotel that scores a three stars in my book. The rooms are as dated as the oriental motif that dominates this place, but dated doesnt mean old or unkempt. This place provides a solid and affordable nights accomodations, and a surprisingly quiet one. The absence of an additional star is due to the lack of nearby eateries and sundries shops in the immediate vicinity, or at least any worth a visit - for example, the liquor store on the corner charged me $13 american dollars for a pack of smokes. Which isnt the hotels fault per se, but sometimes you get judged by the company you keep. Not saying its fair, but it is what it is.

The only reason getting a 5 for location is because we went to universal studios and it was about 10 min away if you are looking for a cheap place to stay and not worried about like this is not it not that cheap for price but the look is definitely cheap room was ok clean walls looked like had damage and they just threw some wall paper over it tub had chips all over it

Such a quaint place to stay. It was easy to forget that we were in such a big city. Some rooms seemed to only be accessible by stairs, so you may wish to call ages before booking online. If stairs are of possible concern of course. They may very well have an elevator that we just didnt see.

Hotel is close to universal studios. The room was VERY outdated with mold on the ceiling and dirty floors. Front staff was very friendly. However, because of the condition of the rooms we will not be staying here again.

I left a very important necklace in the hotel room and didn’t realize until I was already on the road 4 hours away. I called the front desk and they immediately searched the room, found the necklace, and they are shipping it to my home state. The customer service is beyond appreciated!

Its a motel, not a hotel and its on the edge of a sketchy neighborhood. You dont habe to pay for parking and it has a pretty liking swimming pool, but it was not available to swimin while we were there. We booked a room for twoadults and one child and got a room with one double bed in it. I had to spend more money to upgrade to two double beds. Im really not happy with out stay, but it was clean and had beds and doors that locked so it gets a three. Still wouldnt recommend this to anyone.

Absolute excellence in Customer Service. With Customer Service and ease of check on being my top priority in this world that is so lacking in them, what a breath of fresh air.Front desk gentleman gave my girlfriend and myself a better price then we could find online. I was tired with a badly broken ankle, but his efficiency and empathy were fantastic! I have never had such a prompt an easy check in. I found the rooms to be lovely. I was quite pleased. Now Im not the one to complain too much or give bad really...Bad reviews and I usually dont give 2 stars or 1 star unless the place Ive gone to just out of curiousness or simply boredom lol but yesterday we wanted to have a little staycation just for one night only so we checked in the hotel around 1ish & it was around the beginning of the storm so it was freezing and way too cold! even for CA! so upon arriving the hotel parking lot we checked in and the office asked theres a $100 deposit for incidentals usually I hate giving deposits especially if were only going to stay one night but of course thats hotel policy so we went with it and just get done and fast so we can go inside and warm up check in wasnt too bad bec around the afternoon the parking lot was literally empty the few cars Im assuming that were already in their parking lot belongs to the staff lol so we got a room on the 1st floor and the 1st door you see I thought we were going to go through a maze to get to our room but the only reason they gave us that room bec from my understanding its the most basic and cheapest room they offer to guest that are either the 1st floor and the least amount of amenities the room was really basic they have the usually towels, and they told us the bed was supposedly a queen size it was not Ive slept at enough motels/hotels that I know the differences in size beds the bed we slept on was a full size only which would probably fit 2 12yr olds lol

We stayed here for a night. Its in a nice location. The pond with the bridge is nice, but I expected to see koi fish. To my surprise there were no fish just water. The room we got was huge, by far the biggest hotel room Ive stayed in. The front desk staff were very nice and friendly. Overall great hotel!
