An incredible experience from start to finish. From the Table-side Steak Diane was perfectly prepared and packed with flavor to the Table-side Bananas Foster served warm and delicious. The entire staff was welcoming, courteous and friendly. Thank you for an awesome experience!

Someone at our resort told us to go here - they really hyped it up “the rat pack use to hang out there, there’s live music - sit in Frank Sinatra’s old booth!”It was good. Not great. But honestly the best we found in Palm Springs. I take it it’s not really a foodie town. The service was probably the best service I’ve ever had though. Really attentive and everyone was on top of it! My water never passed the half point. I mean on top of it.The bananas foster was a cool “experience” but it was okay. Melty and just fine.Steak was pretty good though and I think the best thing was the shrimp cocktail.You will almost never hear me say a place was too dark but with carpet - YES CARPET - and black walls. It felt too dark. Like I could see just how old it was. If there was live music it was waaaay far away somehow else because we heard nothing.Overall I just expected better food for the price (over $300 for two ppl). Not surprised that we could get a reservation only a day out.

My husband and I enjoyed our wedding night dinner at Melvyn’s. From start to finish it was perfect; magical. The food and drinks were top drawer, the atmosphere perfect, and our server Shelley made the evening memorable. Thank you Shelley. You’re the best. It was an evening we will long remember. Looking forward to our return.

We went for the advertised Jazz Jam hosted on Sundays between 3:30-7:30. Now, there is a house jazz trio (piano, bass & drums) who play a curated list of tunes with pre-selected guests. Do not confuse this jam with an open jam session. It is NOT an open jam. So the good news is the ad worked & put 4 bums in seats. The bad news is 1 rude musician drove them out because of his sour attitude. 🤷‍♂️ Other than that, expect seating at the bar or get there early because there are limited tables and chairs in the bar area. Its a minimum $25 spend/charge per head. Acoustics of the room are good. Service was excellent - the servers were very seasoned and friendly. Support live jazz anyway. Most jazz folk are kind ❤️

I was really looking forward to having dinner at the same place that had been frequented by the likes of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack so I was pretty disappointed when we were seated on their exterior patio section. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely dining area with a nice view of the hotel grounds but you are definitely not having the same experience as the diners in the main dining room. They even had a piano player which we could not hear at all.My husband and I shared the ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly. He also had a loaded baked potato which was huge! I had the Caesar salad and it was quite nice. My husband loved his French onion soup, as well. For dessert, we shared the cherries jubilee which was made table side. That was a nice little treat since you don’t really see restaurants doing that anymore. The service was great and all of the staff were kind and very attentive. All in all, it was a great night out, just not the full mid century experience I had been expecting.

The quality of drinks and food is not what you would expect of a fine dining restaurant. Unfortunately the mojitos were awful however, we didn’t return them and instead ordered a different drink and it was just as bad (1 star out of five on drinks). Oysters were incredibly small as well as the portions of the entree. The Scampi did have amazing flavors as well as the brussels sprouts however, the over all experience of fine dining was sadly missing.

This restaurant was a very coincidental find and I am super glad we found it. Very nice atmosphere with a piano player, great bar with classic cocktails and very nice classic ambiance. I had the most likely best steak I ever had at Melvyn‘s. It was crusty on the outside and medium on the inside. Taste was amazing. Also the truffle fries were really good. If you‘re up for a great steak, go there!

Charming old-school establishment, where the dining experience and history are almost as much of a reason for dining here as the food. The service and ambiance are both top notch.The Shrimp Scampi was delicious… my only regret was opting to add the pasta. While excellent, it made me too full to try and of the tempting desserts.The Chicken Pot Pie was quite good… and quite a large portion…. Easily shareable if you pair with something on the lighter side.

We had high explectations for Thanksgiving and were disappointed.Ordered Turkey Dinner and Prime RibPluses..Good amount of Turkey..white and dark meat. Ambiance was wonderful..Tables not crowded together..Throw pillows on the booth seat backs a nice touch.Negatives..Prime rib was tougher than a $115 meal should be. Turkey dresssing dry wih large chucks of dried bread.Lobster Bisque was more like purieed Tomato soup..no chucks of lobster meat.The extra sides we ordered not as advertised..No visible bacon on the Brussels Spouts..No Burnt Merangue to be seen on sweet potatoes..at $14 each!The included deserts were bland and unimagined. Apple Cobbler was like canned pie filling with ice cream.But the main reason we wont be going back is their extra charges..Wellness surcharge AND a 20% Service charge which we didnt notice when paying..so we tipped 20% more...following the suggested Gratuities section of the bill. Bill for two with a NA beer and Mojito.$386 before our additional tip.Why cant Melvyns just be upfront about their prices instead of this bait and switch approach? They had to print up these menus anyway, so the adjusted price should have been peesented instead of a small font line under the heading. I have been to other restaurants where there was a sevice charge, and was notified verbally by the server in advance.We have spent this much for a fantastic meal experience before..This isnt even in the top ten!We wont be back.

In a historic spot in Palm Springs, California, many of the Hollywood Greats, Frank Sinatra, and some rat pack would hang out at Melvyn’s Restaurant. I was fortunate enough to be in town for business, and I was able to have dinner and drinks. The atmosphere is impressive. You feel like you’re stepping back in. My wife and I visited Melvyns in 2023 on our trip to Palm Springs and we were very pleased. The food, service and atmosphere was amazing.This year we brought some friends who we talked highly about the food and we were all disappointed with the quality. The steaks were not top quality where the meat was not chewable needed to spit out and the sides lacked any flavour. The dessert was the only good thing about the meal. Definitely not worth the money spent.

This highly celebrated spot in Palm Springs was a bit of a letdown. There were 6 of us and we arrived early for cocktails and wanted to take in some entertainment at the piano bar. Since we were a larger party it was most logical to sit closer to the back of the lounge (which reads like a dark basement with no artwork on the dark walls) but I think ideally go in small parties and get a spot at the lovely bar. Our server in the lounge was attentive, lovely and cocktails were excellent. When we sat in the dining room, the room was lively and well appointed with upholstered dining chairs and beautiful portraiture art on the walls. Our server (name began with a B I think, and was one of the only employees masked - simply mention as an identifier, but no issue for us if he was masked or not) was quite bizarre. After he read us the specials and made a few recommendations, it went downhill with his level of service. We ordered three bottles of wine and aside from the first pour, we served ourselves every time after that - which is unacceptable in a dining establishment of this kind; our server failed to check on us when our entrees arrived so the person who ordered Steak Diane had to wait 5 minutes longer for the tableside finish (he seemed completely unaware the station was set up and ready to go with my partner’s steak sitting there). Also, the ribeye steak was was not a traditional ribeye; when we asked our server what it was he said it was ‘inside’ ribeye but the cut looked more like a baseball steak - really disappointing for that diner. The halibut special was tasty, French onion soup was lovely, and another guest thoroughly enjoyed the risotto (which was recommended by the server). The seafood tower was a standout and adequately gave us all a taste of everything - the sauces that accompanied the tower were exceptionally balanced and offered variety. I would skip the Caesar salad, key lime pie and bananas foster; the ladies at a table nearby said they loved the cherries jubilee.The room is a scene and the ambiance a vibe that feels a bit ‘of a time’ but based on the way this establishment is talked up, it truly was not worth the hype.It may be a better option to pop in for a quick drink and snack, and move on elsewhere.No issue paying top-dollar for a beautiful meal, but this spot didn’t quite deliver; perhaps with a different server it would’ve have been a far better experience (he was noticeably surly to his coworkers though we felt the supporting cast of characters were far superior than the server assigned to our table). We can now say we did it, and at the very least we enjoyed each others company and made the most it. I’m not sure I would return again in future, but the property is worth checking out in some capacity if expectations are calibrated accordingly.

I decided to share my own experience since the reviews over the last few months have been very mixed. We were a party of 6 celebrating my birthday on a Friday night. The host and servers were all very welcoming and accommodating. Our server was friendly and capable. We ordered cocktails and were given the opportunity to enjoy them for a few minutes before ordering appetizers (two of them pictured here: the deviled eggs and the cheese and meat plate). We lingered a while over the appetizers before ordering our mains. We probably waited a little too long to do that because the mains did take about 40-45 min once we placed the order. It wasnt awful, as we still had some cheese and such on the table, but it did slow down the pace. By the time we were done with the evening it was 3 hours later. Again, a bit of that was our fault, but the kitchen was a little slow.The food was good, not great, but I didnt necessarily expect great to be honest. Its not a Michelin-rated restaurant. Its an old school steak-house type of place. Youre there largely for the history and elegance of the place. I had the Wagu burger, which was well prepared and tasty. The fries were mushy and not hot. Two friends had the sea bass: one devoured it and the other barely took a few bites, so mixed reviews there. Another friend had the chicken pot pie, which I tasted, and everyone agreed it was amazing (and huge!). Another friend had a seafood dish (Im forgetting what it was) but it was a small portion with no sides.Dessert was good, especially the key lime pie.All in all it was a fun, elegant experience, and Id definitely go back.

The poor rating we are leaving does not reflect the good service provided by Gabriel, our waiter, but rather the manager Rons abysmal customer service and an overall experience. We drove 45 minutes from La Quinta to explore this Palm Springs legacy restaurant. We called to let them know we were going to be 20 minutes late, which they were fine with.The table Ron sat us at however was a foot and a half from a busing station, on a slope and in the main path of everyone dining on the patio and frankly should be removed altogether. I asked to be moved to an indoor table that had just vacated but Ron told me that the table was not available and moved us to a different table on the patio which was regretfully next to one of the loudest groups at the restaurant, making for a very unpleasant dining experience. After 30 minutes, and then as we departed, I saw the indoor table remained unused, which was horribly disappointing.The food was good, but not exceptional and the prices are far from a good value. Is it additionally reasonable to be charged five dollars for bread and butter and 4% for a wellness surcharge to cover employee benefits? Ridiculous. There are just far too many overall superior choices in the valley.The years have taken its toll on this place with some obvious filth. With a new manager and some renovation Melvyns certainly has potential to be as resplendent as it once was..... unfortunately we will have to wait for other customer reviews to let us know before making a return engagement.

Dinner at Melvyns was phenomenal. Service was over the top and the food was great. Came here for my birthday with my dad and was not disappointed. The bread is delicious with a crispy outside and soft inside. Steak Diane with mash potatoes was very filling. Dad got the chicken pot pie and side of Mac and cheese. All in all great experience will definitely be back next year… or maybe sooner 👀

I had heard so much about this place. Definitely a Palm Springs institution. We came on a Sunday night where there was a live jazz band. They were fantastic. As we moved to our dinner table, we started with the seafood tower, which was stunning and absolutely delicious. We then split the tomahawk which was perfectly cooked. Overall start to finish an amazing experience. Definitely one restaurant not to be missed while you are in Palm Springs.

I specifically made a reservation at Melvyns for my 35th birthday because I just *knew* it would be special and it did not disappoint!From the minute we walked in we were treated like stars and sat in Frank Sinatras favorite booth. The door staff and servers were delightful and we couldnt get enough of how good the food was. It was so quiet on our side that you wouldnt have even know there was live piano in the bar area!Everything was so fantastic and I felt like a glamorous, Hollywood star for my birthday from the minute we walked in the door.15/10 would recommend and definitely will be back next time we come to PS!

Swanky setting for restaurant within a cabana laced hotel. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Even a pay phone in mens restroom.Make sure to have a reservation...or not eating here.Patio was enjoyable, clean and setup well. Weather cooperated too as gorgeous night.Food menu was just diverse enough to not be boring...but definitely resort food to not scare away masses. Well presented on plate.Liquor choices all across board as we all drank different things happily.Will say, restaurant staff was clearly understaffed on busy Saturday night. Considering circumstances, no problem to overlook scenario. However, we believe our server was making their own work as forgot several items...even after requesting several times.Be prepared for long experience. Make sure to bring people you like.

Hands down, the worst service experience Ive ever had in a restaurant. After being seated, it was at least 10 minutes before the waitress came to our table. We ordered promptly. I ordered a Caesar salad in addition to our entrees. It took 30 minutes for the Caesar salad to arrive at the table. Our waitress was preoccupied with another table. 45 minutes after I had finished my salad, there was no sign of our entrees or the waitress. I finally got her attention and she said that the restaurant was busy with another large party and that was causing our food delay. She never apologized. We waited another 15 minutes, we had been there almost 2 hours, and I asked the waitress the status of her food. She went back and checked on the food and she said it would be 2 minutes. 5 minutes later there was no sign of any food. I said were leaving. I asked for our check for the salad and she said that she would comp us for the food. I said what food? We left without ever having our entrees served. I would avoid this restaurant at all cost. P.S., The Caesar salad was terrible.

I have always wanted to go here and on valentines day they had an opening so we immediately booked the restaurant. That night it was a set menu and all four courses were great. The shimp cocktail was great, the aioli sauce was fantastic. The clam chowder and the the steak were both great. Very good service. Cant wait to go back!

Great ambiance. History and charm.Had our wedding night dinner here in 2017, it was under construction. We didn’t get to see the inside. One of the new owners bought us a bottle of champagne. It was so generous!We came back Memorial Day weekend 2019. It’s fine dining and the prices reflect. However, food was superb and very generous portions.Definitely plan on returning when we are next in town!

Absolutely an experience! This is the place to go for a nice night out or special occasion. The ambiance is so cool. The service was absolutely top notch, could not have been treated better. There was live music playing which was actually really good, but it was nice that it wasn’t so loud that it was distracting or made it hard to have conversation. The drinks were excellent and the food was incredible. My husband had the ribeye steak and it could not have been better. Probably the best steak I’ve ever had! Finished the night off with a delicious cheesecake. Definitely give it a try, felt like a once in a lifetime experience.

I was in town for work. The food was ok at best. The servers were great and tried to make it better, but starting from the bread, it was bad. It tasted as if it were cooked in old oil, had a rancid oil smell. The escargot was weird and watery somehow. Then the entrees came and I had the ribeye, which wasnt a bad cut of meat, but it wasnt seasoned. I had peppercorn brandy sauce and a colleague had the demi-glace. Upon trying both it was the same sauce except one had peppercorns in it. The sides were also an issue, even the carrots were mushy. Wouldnt recommend it.

I think most folks would say that Melvyns is not going to pursue new culinary territory with their cuisine. But they sure know how to satisfy a customer. I think you go there for the nostalgia, the ambience and the perfectly poured cocktails.We went one night for drinks and stayed for dinner. Service from behind the bar was first rate. We enjoyed a wedge salad, a risotto and a bottle of Napa Sauvignon Blanc.Conversation around the bar was convivial and animated. There was a pianist playing show tunes and Tom Jones. Melvyns is old school Palm Springs at its finest.

Went to dinner with friends. Nice place. Pretty interior. Service was good but slow. We asked for bread. The waiter said theyre new policy is not to offer, we need to ask. Kinda weird. I had the chicken pot pie. Big portion. Joe had the red fish, said it was delicious. Jennifer ordered the halibut. Was over cooked and tasteless. From the beginning, the service was terse, even condescending at times, and inadequate. The food was mediocre at best. My partner and I shared a NY strip - and asked for it to be rare/medium rare. We received a decidedly MEDIUM/medium well steak with no pink to be seen. The broccoli smoked cheddar fondue was the equivalent of steamed broccoli with Velveeta. We noticed other tables had been served bread - so we asked about bread. The server callously laughed at our inquiry, telling us that we had to ORDER bread. After ordering a steak, multiple sides, and drinks, how silly of us to think bread at a premium restaurant like this would be served. The waiter never even SUGGESTED we order bread when we placed our entree and sides order. What a miss. In any case - spend your time and money elsewhere. We wont be returning.

We spent a special evening at Melvyns last night. 6 of us. My husband and I are locals. We wanted to bring some relatives for dinner. Our drink in the bar prior to dinner was great. We were attended to by all. Our servers were wonderful. This is a special place to come with very rich and long history. Melvyns is located inside the Ingleside Inn which also has a long and wonderful history.Three of us ordered the chicken pot pie which is huge. At least the top crust is enormous and impressive. The inside of the pie was very thin and soupy not thick at all. Not as I remembered having here in years past. Two of our party had the steak Diane which they loved. It is prepared tableside and that makes for a fun, retro event. It smelled delicious. We also had Wedge salads which were crisp and also very large and delicious. The shrimp cocktail was also enjoyed. The shrimp were very large and fresh, 4 shrimp in total. If you have not been to Melvyns, do come and experience it. It is iconic, and worth the experience. But be prepared to pay for a special meal.

Most of us had salads, the salad was old very watery and limp, my salad was a chopped salad. I ordered a side of anchovies, they were slimy and I spit them out. Two of my friends had the a crab Loui and had stomach problems, we think from the crab. One person had the club chicken sandwich she broke of one of denture teeth. Other than that, the staff was very nice and the waitress was very understanding and took off the Anchovies. We have been long time patrons of this astablisment and have given it the benefit of the doubt regardless of the last two new owners after the fact that Mel had passed away. We understand that changes must be made with new ownership but were hoping for better results, quality of food. I would like to say that the presentation was great. We will be back in November, when we will try it again if there has been changes. By the way, we loved the meatballs....

Spectacular food and drink menu and plates prepared and presented in perfection. A great place for a special occasion such as a birthday or an anniversary. Plenty of space between tables in the covered and air conditioned patio allowed for safe dinning. The steaks and other Mets are what this restaurant is renowned for but the octopus was a pleasant surprise (albeit, a bit more chewy than I am used to).

Absolutely loved this place! Such a hidden gem. The atmosphere was great, and Linda was an awesome server. All the staff was very nice. We stayed in the Ingleside Inn,and although the restaurant was booked, they still accommodated us every time on the veranda. The steak Diane was the best we have ever had.

Be very careful of the old bartender. This rating is for the old bartender on the night of the 15th only. Read below for my review of the restaurant. So, I was at Melvins on the night of the 15th and ordered a whiskey and seltzer water. The bartender handed me the bill -$20.34. I gave him $25.00 and he said Oh, Thanks he turned around and completely ignored me. I stood there for a minute. He knew I was looking at him and he NEVER GAVE ME MY CHANGE. Dear Sir, I really dont care about the $4 tip. Youre a thief. I know its been hard for the industry but you had no right to steal from me.Now the restaurant is a very cool and elegant place to go to. The atmosphere and ambiance is magnificent. You will enjoy it. Just keep an eye on the old guy at the bar.

We were at Melvyn’s for New Year’s Eve at the second seating (9pm). The service was spotty and the meal was very average. The worst part was the dessert order. I am gluten free and the option on the menu that matched gf was crème brûlée, which I ordered. What they served me was chocolate mousse with cookie crumbles (not gf). I sent it back and said how it was not crème brûlée. They apologized and brought another chocolate mousse back out insisting that it was crème brûlée. I told the waiter that it was not and he finally said that he had heard that from other guests. Why not just tell me up front that you ran out of crème brûlée rather than gaslight me and other patrons.Overall the experience was very mediocre especially for the price we paid. Melvyn’s should do better.

We just finished one of our best trips ever here at Ingleside Inn in Palm Springs. The experience was amazing and the folks at Melvyn’s made it beyond memorable for us. Our first night here we stopped in for a beverage and met Michael who kindly shared with us Melvyn’s story photo by photo… by the end of our conversation it was Michael I was star struck by as we sat in the Frank Sinatra booth.The property and pool at Ingleside is breathtaking alone, but would not have been near as enjoyable without Tyler’s presence. Tyler zipped in and out of the pool tending to his guests making each one of us feel as special as the next. Never a thirsty or hungry moment and more importantly never did we feel anything but appreciated and welcome.Like Michael, Tyler made time for each of his guests, anticipating their needs and willing to share local recommendations if needed (we loved LuLu’s, thanks, Tyler!).A big part of our vacation plans included lots of relaxing reading. I asked Tyler what he likes to read and he shared it’s been a while since he’s committed to a good book. We have been wanting to come here for a while now. They were closed on our last visit to Palm Springs last year. This year we lucked out and got a reservation!Our reservation was for 8pm on a Friday. We got there at 7:35 or so only to see a line in front. I waited in line to check in with the hostess, but she was not really checking people in. After quite a few minutes I asked the couple in front of me if they had checked in. “Not really, she didn’t really take our name” was their response. This would be my experience too. The hostess was clearly out of her depth. I’m not sure if she was new, but she was ill-equipped to run a hostess stand at a high-end restaurant.At about 7:50 the hostess decided to seat a walk-in party of 6! They had no reservation and were dressed for the beach (shorts, Birkenstocks, T-shirts, etc.) We eventually got seated at about 8:50 (!) And the fun continued.Our server was a bit frazzled. He approached our table after about 5-8 minutes of being sat, and attempted to take our order. I said I would like a wine list. He briefly tried to show me the wines by the glass printed on the menu, but we wanted a bottle. He left quickly to go fetch a list (which the hostess should be giving to every table by the way.)The food was good. The only slip up was an undercooked Filet which was a perfect medium rare. Cherries jubilee is no longer table side (due to Covid apparently.) Why do companies think they can blame lower service standards on Covid?My wife has been here many times over the years with her family and according to her the magic is gone. Part of this is the covid B.S. that has us dining mid-winter out in the grass near the cars, but clearly other factors are at play here. Likely the new ownership (thanks Gavin.)If you are thinking the prices are high so the experience will be excellent, you are mistaken. Dinner for the two of us was $290 (wine was $100) with tip, excluding valet. We won’t be back, and neither would Frank if he were still alive.One final thank you to the valet. He was a class act. He offered us chairs to sit on while we waited the hour for a table. Also in her defense the hostess did bring us some cocktails on the house.

The most exceptional ambiance this place has always has. The renovations have shifted this place from a a classic steak house to a classic steak house with with a modern decor twist. Nice atmosphere but the food was quite expensive, most dishes were a la carte. Our waiter was indifferent, bordering on rude. I ordered the house martini which had only vodka, no vermouth. When I asked the waiter he shrugged and said that’s what I ordered. He could easily have taken it back and had vermouth added but he just took it away and charged me for it. Our bill was over $400 for four people and we split a number of things. So decent service would seem a reasonable expectation. Even though where are in modern times a step through the door at Melvyn’s means you feel like you’ve gone back in time in the best way. First time there. Driving into the driveway was very nice and got my hopes up. Looked over the menu. Was very limited. I ordered the lobster risotto. Wife ordered the short rib. I was pretty disappointed with the risotto. Was very sticky and starchy. Found one little piece of lobster in it. Cant believe I spent $32 for a bowl of rice. I highly suggest you stay away from this dish. The short rib was very tender but I couldnt taste the beef. Was way overpowered by a wine reduction and everything else on the plate. Was extremely salty meal and over chefs. They tried to hard to dress it up but forgot how good short rib can be served simply. I would not recommend this dish either. Drinks were definitely over priced. The martini was $16 and about half the size of a normal martini. We probably will never go back again. Clearly made for the rich and famous. Pretty disappointing. My wife and I had dinner on a Sunday night. The old hollywood atmosphere was nice and the appetizers came quickly but it went downhill from there. First, we waited an hour (yes, literally an hour) for our entrees. Waiter stopped by exactly once after maybe 45 to ask for our patience. I got the chicken pot pie, which I saw go to another table and looked amazing. The pastry was good but the filling was watery and lacked any real seasoning. My wife had the Gnocci, which was also flavorless and was different from the description on the menu. Completely different sauce. She didnt notice at first but when we asked the waiter he told us the kitchen had changed the preparation. That would have been nice to know when we ordered it. Interestingly, the people at the table next to us had a discussion with the waiter about the lack of seasoning on their steaks. Would not recommend this restaurant.

What a Disappointment - We have been going to Melvyn’s for years. It was one of our “go to” places, but something has changed. Is it new management, new bartender, new servers? Overall, the service was subpar. The server had an attitude and was not friendly. There were six of us for dinner and, when the food arrived, five of us got the wrong plates and had to exchange them. I was once a waiter. Getting the plates mixed up is totally avoidable. With regard to the food, my 6 oz filet was “microscopic” and very salty. Two of the other guests also had steaks that were overly salted. The food prices have been marked-up and the bottle of wine we picked was five times the retail price. And, that was the best bottle we could find on the wine list based on price and ratings (Vivino). I know that times have been hard for restaurants because of Covid and I expected somewhat higher prices, but the service, food, and wine selections did not keep up and now they are out of balance. I was hoping this was an anomaly, but after checking other recent reviews, I think not.

The maitred showed us to a table he declared his favourite which, as we all know is maitred code for a lousy table Im hoping you will accept. My only other comment was on the size of the martinis. $20 for a 4oz pour in a 6 oz glass was a bit underwhelming. Booze is one of those things that costs very little to make a big impression. An extra 2 oz might cost the restaurant an extra $2 but makes a big difference in perception. Get rid of the tiny martini glasses and pour a decent sized cocktail.

The cream of mushroom soup was delicious! The wilted spinach salad was to die for! The bar staff does not engage you at all so the charm of Melvyns bar which is obviously missing just makes this place yet another corporate hostile takeover minus the history of the Ingleside Inn and its once interesting character. Dinner for two was $160 pre-tip.My husband and I have dined here for many years.

This was my second experience with Melvyns Restaurant with the first being much better. It appears the wait staff is getting tired and just goes through the motions... Though there is plenty of room in this establishment one of the rooms was closed off and everyone was packed into the front half. The wait staff had a hard time getting around and every time they passed behind my chair they bumped into it. Rather annoying when you come to a restaurant of this caliber. Besides this the wait staff seemed to pay more attention to the people they knew. Though the menu is very extensive the food served was only okay. Sure didnt live up to what was considered one of the better restaurants in Palm Springs. The best part of the evening was the greeting from the Host when we arrived. I would not recommend this restaurant to out of town visitors, or locals unless they know someone on the wait staff. I would recommend the Management wake up the wait staff and counsel their attitudes.

I had stayed at the hotel previously and had ordered room service from Melvyns which was good. I went back recently for dinner and left extremely disappointed. I had high hopes and everything was great till my entree arrived. I had to order the beef Wellington which arrived beautiful in the dim lighting. When I took a bite though the beef inside was completely raw, cold raw. when I brought it to the waiters attention he took it away and said would have it fixed. When he brought it back they had just removed the steak from the puff pastry, seared the sides and put it back into the puff pastry which by this time had gotten soggy and the steak was still blood red. For what they portray themselves to be they fall very short. At their price points you expect to get attention to detail but none found.

Had a lovely lunch. When we arrived we told the Host and the Waiter we were going to be having a 3 Martini Lunch. They were very accommodating and never pushed at all.French Onion soup and the Chicken Pot Pie were wonderful.My only suggestion would that the menu was very limited and ordering off dinner menu not available. Also there were not any appetizers offered.When looking at dinner many items could be easily added or be offered if requested at lunch.I hear a new lunch menu is on its way so looking forward to seeing more options on our next visit, soon.

Melvyns bar, restaurant is affiliated with a cluster of small cottages, located 1 block east of Palm Springs main highway south.I have never eaten in the main restaurant as I prefer the smaller and more intimate feel of the bar. Not only do they serve drinks but food as well. The menu is limited but the selections are a satisfactory and variable selection. Their pricing is not exorbitant.Beyond the main bar is a limited and intimate seating area that surrounds a sizeable dance floor and grand piano. At 7:00pm the piano player appears. I dont think any comment would do him justice so just go and experience him for yourself.If you enjoy mellow, kickback evenings, sharing conversation with those next to you, perhaps making new friends, I would definitely recommend Melvins.

Easily, one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. For the price, youd expect great service and timely delivery of your food. Not so at Melvyns. While out apps, drinks and salads come out in good time, we were waiting over an hour for our main courses. What made it more frustrating was that tables seated AFTER US were already enjoying their main course and some were even leaving. Our waiter, Arron, who told us of his many jobs before coming to Melvyns, seem unfocused - and I am being kind here. There was a reason why he had so many serving jobs. When we asked him where our meal was he said he would check.He returned and said you are the next ticket out. 15 minutes later we were still waiting for our food. So, we got up and left. We paid for what we had ordered. We explained the situation to the hostess on the way out, yet no manager or other person in charge came over to offer an apology. We were told by another member of the staff that they were short staffed due to Covid and there was an issue with a new software system. Yet, everyone all around us got their orders. I think the fault lies with our waiter and inept floor manager who did not keep his eye on the dining room. As we departed the hostess did say that they had received many complaints that evening. NO effort was made to rectify the situation or offer restitution. My advice, try another place to dine- unless you have an entire evening to invest waiting for your meal.

Excellent choice on menu however food is average to very good nothing is excellent or superb. Note prices are high, first thing on menu is bread and butter for $9.

Had a first look, renovations continue, looking good so far. But room rates are far above our pain level. No matter we will still make frequent use of their wonderful bar with Bobby making sure our drinks are just right. Right along with Danny who runs the front desk along with just about every other service customers need. The dining room looks well thought out, we need to make reservation to test out the menu.

Been there 2x this June...both times in the lounge for entertainment and cocktails. Both visits found excellent live music (for my vintage)...A piano player w/a decent voice who took requests and a jazz combo. No cover, no minimum. The Sunday afternoon visit (when the combo played) was a bit on the noisy side (lots of chatter from the audience). But sit close and you wont we disappointed. Cocktails are good and fairly price. Bartender service is professional and prompt...the female wait staff leaves a bit to be desired. Too bad they dont have bar snacks...Id go every week!

Visit the building for the history.Waiters (who are nice!) didnt know the dishes. Menus later bought back to the table not once but twice to disappoint and swap orders that sold out by 8.30pm. A visibly dirty spoon was given to me to use, and then my main simply arrived without half the ingredients listed on menu.I did contact the venue and was kindly, offered a re-attempt but this was a honeymoon visit from out of town.Visit with no expectations and daydream about the history in the walls...

The bar had live music and but the martinis have shrunk with no olives on the side. The food delivery was thrown at us with no utensils and he ran away. I could not get his attention. There is a $9.00 charge for bread and 3% for EE health insurance, Risotto was horrible, way to much cream and the truffle oil tasted cheap and over powering. Will not go back again.

I was so disappointed with my dinner Christmas Eve at Melvyn’s. I took two friends there for dinner. The dinner was the worse meal that I have had at Melvyn’s. The menu was four course and the picks were lousy.After ten years of good food at Melvyn’s I was so shocked to see that their choice of menu for a nice evening was so poor.I will not be returning or recommending my family and friends to dine at Melvyn’s again. So sad to see once again another restaurant going cheap.

Had the worse experience in dining EVER!!!!!We were celebrating a special birthday that night as a group with our dear friend. The night was plated to be a magnificent experience with our friends! Our server was not properly trained to do his job as a server. Side dishes were served as appetizers and buyer beware of your oyster experience! We were told there were no Blue Point Oysters but managed to be server Oysters Rockefeller ( must have been previously prepared)There were 6 in our party and only 4 entrees arrived! First of all, according to their website, there is a dress code: “collared shirts and long pants in the main dining room.” We dressed accordingly and were seated in the patio where several men were in t shirts. We ordered appetizers and salads which were fine, not great. But after being seated at 7:00 PM and not being served our entrees by 8:30 PM, we decided to leave. We received apologies from the Maitre d, but nothing more. Our server said the chef was new. There are many choices in the desert, we will try something different next time.

Regrettably, our entire Valentines Day dining experience was a complete and utter, overpriced fail. If there was a chef in the kitchen that night, he should have been fired for letting items go to tables as they did. My speck appetizer was tough around the edges, as lunch meat gets when left out in fan cooled chillers, the octopus was well prepared but lukewarm and its accompaniments were mushy and not flavorful, the strawberry shortcake was a joke, presentations were poor. The service was slow and inattentive. Literally everyone at our table did not care for their dinner. Everyone kept trying to make the best out of it, but in the end we were all extraordinarily disappointed. After spending a week there during Modernism Week, it is obvious that Palm Springs is not a foodie town- which is odd given the money that exists there. Strangely Palm Beach, FL is the same- and may be why I always confused the two. Regardless Melvyns stood out as the worst, most overpriced meal we encountered in PSP. If you dont know any better, you might enjoy it.

Loved the old school vibe and the service. Both are just what you would expect. We enjoyed the experience but wanted the food to be far better than it was so that we could make it a regular spot. But we just can’t at those prices and that food. Go for drinks and oysters instead.
