It is a pleasure and fortunate find to be working with Jonathan Marks as our realtor. We are moving across country and havent been able to visit the area in person. Jonathan has been our eyes and feet on the ground. Through his very hard work he has been able to find us a nice house, in a great location, within our budget and given a very tight market!!! He has been very understanding and patient with the extra time and effort it has taken to help us on this journey! We just moved into our dream home in Marin + are beyond grateful to Jonathan and his team for helping us get here! Jonathan is a seasoned pro who knows the Marin market inside and out, and he’s also a pleasure to hang out with. Our search took years, due in no small part to our “champagne taste on a beer budget” finicky-ness. A lesser agent may have fired US, but Jonathan was unfailingly patient and optimistic. He also never once tried to talk us into a place that wasn’t quite right, and was ALL SYSTEMS GO when we found The One. We were prepared to be outbid yet again on this spot, but with Jonathan’s wise counsel and speedy follow through, we were able to do our diligence and write the winning offer on a place that got multiple bids. He’s also been so generous with his resources and hooked us up with all kinds of experts to help us get settled in. We’d just about given up, but here we are in a home that checks almost every box on our unreasonably long wish list. Jonathan helped me find a very special home in a very special place - at a time of rising interest rates and vanishing inventory, and for a price I could afford.When I think of Jonathan, I think not so much of a realtor as I do a matchmaker. Jonathan’s primary concern was first to get to know me, then to get a sense of the kinds of houses I responded to - and then to find me the right one. My husband and I were so lucky to find Jonathan! We were nervous to start our “forever home” search in Marin County, especially with the current market of low inventory and high interest rates. When taking us home tours he was very knowledgeable and subjective, pointing out both positive and negative aspects of each property. When we found our dream home but it was slightly above budget, Jonathan introduced us to a new mortgage broker, who helped us bring the home into our budget. Jonathan helped us comb through the inspection and made sure we were comfortable at every step of making an offer. After getting our offer accepted Jonathan clearly guided us through the closing process. After closing, he continues to be an excellent resource by providing recommendations for handymen, plumber, etc. Working with Jonathan will make a home buying process as easy as it can get, and best of all he is professional, knowledgeable, has tons of resources, and incredibly genuine person.

I have bought one property (5 units in Tiburon, 2015), and sold my homes in Mill Valley (2018) and Fairfax (2023) using Jonathan Marks as my realtor. I’ve also worked with him on one or two purchases that didn’t go through. Really, I have only good things to say about the experiences.Jonathan is smart, on top off the market, strategic, likable, and not pushy. I’ve always had the sense that he keeps my interests in mind, even when his short-term interest would be just to get a deal done. He also has a good team — both those who work for him, and his network of tradespeople and others needed to get a property ready for market. Some of his folks can be pretty expensive, so I haven’t always used them, but I’ve appreciated having the option.On my last transaction, summer 2023, Jonathan suggested an approach to selling my Fairfax home that I wouldn’t have thought of. Then after I agreed to it, he thought it through again and came up with an even better approach. I ended up getting a really solid full-price offer ($2.5M) and the deal couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Had I waited to sell in the fall I doubt I would have done as well.

If you are looking to buy a house in San Francisco or Marin, I would unapologetically recommend Jonathan and his team. His responsiveness, attention to detail and calm and warm demeanor set him apart from the rest. This was our first home buying experience - Jonathan walked us through the process step by step with patience and kindness closing. He always made time for any question or concern we had whether it was late at night over the weekend and closed our off market deal without issue. As first time homeowners the prospect of buying a home in the Bay Area seemed, if not impossible, extremely daunting. Tobias Green made the entire process manageable and even fun. He is professional, energetic, patient, and knowledgeable. He offered us his opinions and experience to help us narrow down our search to just a couple houses. We needed a lot of hand holding and advice as we went through the process and Jonathan took the time to help us through.At the time we were buying there was no real inventory to speak of, every house we bid on had so many offers we thought we would never find a house that we could afford. We were looking to buy in Marin as we outgrew our tiny apartment in San Francisco in around 2014 or so - hoping to move into a new house in a new community before our son started kindergarten. We sold our home in San Rafael at the end of 2020 which was a very difficult decision to make. Tobias was our primary agent and Jonathan assisted as well. I love Jonathan Marks, and if you work with him to buy a property, I believe you will too.For over two years Jonathan put up with our indecisions, reluctances, mind changes, and near-weekly outings to obscure properties, and he never lost his cool. Not once. Not even when we drove around in my little Honda with three wet dogs in the backseat. As an urban person I resisted moving to Marin and thereby gave my partner perpetual agita. Jonathan smoothed the way for me (and us) with great empathy-its one of his many gifts-and as a role model; he meditates and hikes in the morning in Marin, and dances the night away in the hippest club in San Francisco the same evening. It took me some time to see that moving meant adding more to my life than I was losing.So meanwhile we looked at farm houses; cottages; an unfinished modernist masterpiece in Sonoma; a subdivision in Novato that made me cry; a hilltop house with the pool caving in; more Eichlers than I care to count; a cramped residence with a defunct exercise pool in the middle of the living room; a gorgeous horse farm that turned out not to have any water; and a multi-level manor with facilities for pole dancing. Through all of these outings and many more Jonathan maintained his great sense of humor and his sensitivity. He listened carefully to why we chose to drag him to yet another type of property, and zeroed in on the needs these choices indicated. Jonathan always encouraged us to aim for the moon, and not to settle for what he knew would disappoint us. When I told him we were considering putting a bid in on a house that fit many of our needs, but did not raise our temperature, he told me to wait until we were excited to the boiling point about a property before going forward. It was great advice.Jonathan is a rare person-a magnificent listener who responds with equal parts calmness and enthusiasm. He understands how anxiety-producing purchasing a house can be, and therefore communicates well and often. He was consistently available to us, to answer even the most trivial questions, sometimes from the airport, and even on his family vacation. That he is thoroughly professional we learned right away. That he has the capacity for great-hearted friendship and generosity we learned more slowly.Now as I look out of the window at this gorgeous Marin landscape, I feel I owe a substantial portion of my joy to Jonathan Marks. I hope he will visit soon to share this special place that he helped us find.

We met Jess and Tobias at open houses in Mill Valley as we were just beginning our search for a new home. Among the scores of representatives we met, they stood out for a couple of reasons: 1) honest appraisals of the properties they were representing-the pros and cons that might not be apparent (sunshine or lack thereof in the winter, etc) 2) both seemed to be warm and genuine people, not the glad-hander type that we meet too often in real estate circles.They never seemed to be annoyed with us and zeroed in pretty quickly on the type of property we needed and didn’t waste our time with places that wouldn’t work. In short order, they found us a house, the deal was made and they made it quick and easy with hand-holding as needed and even prompt attention after the sale. I recommend Tobias and Jess without reservations.

House hunting can be a stressful process, particularly in this market. It certainly was for us. My wife and I had gone through two realtors before meeting Jonathan at an open house, both of whom had left us feeling anxious and pessimistic about our prospects of finding what we wanted in our price range. Jonathan had precisely the opposite effect. The day we met, he struck me as less of a realtor than a yogi: patient and receptive, with the sort of cool confidence that could soothe nerves in a foxhole.So, yeah, Jonathans a mug of chamomile tea for weary bay area house hunters. But I can also say with utter confidence that my wife and I would not have landed our dream home were it not for him. So theres that, too.You might be tempted to think (as I was) that you can find everything youre looking for on Zillow, that realtors are needless middlemen in todays home buying process. Not even close. Heres my honest advice: get to know Jonathan. Give him a sense of who you are and what youre looking for, then let him dig a bit. At the same time, go ahead and search Zillow and come up with a few homes that you find attractive. Then compare notes. I think youll find, not only that Jonathan has a much better sense of whats out there, but that, in many cases, hes already familiar with the listings youve dug up and can give you an honest take on which are worth your time (trust me, some wont be).For the search alone, youll benefit enormously from his experience and market knowledge.That said, for my wife and I, it was after wed found our dream-home that we were most grateful to have Jonathan in our corner. Ill leave it at this: not every sale boils down to numbers alone, and, come closing time, you will find no better advocate in the Bay Area. This is the man you want presenting your offer. Period.But Jonathan will do more than go to bat for you, hell follow through as well. Hes armed with a fat rolodex of professional contacts, complete with everyone you might need to navigate your way through and finalize a sale. Hes on a first name basis with the areas best home inspectors, surveyors, drainage specialists and mortgage brokers.
