Very nice hotel with a variety of unique rooms. Cafe and bakery are great. The baked goods for sale are some of the best Ive ever had. Pastries and cakes are a must. Restaurant is very cool, a lot of really interesting areas to dine. Very popular venue. Carved pillars, amazing art, very exciting location. Whether youre staying at the hotel or just grabbing food or baked items as you pass through this is a great stop. Gardens are beautiful. The entire place is an experience.

Worst steak and fried chicken I’ve ever had in my life. Staff was super nice, building is cool looking but falling apart. The $70 steak wasn’t cooked how I asked and was not seasoned at all, I have much better fried chicken at my local gas station. They should put some of the food profits into proper building maintenance.

OMG, this place is so fun with decoration and character! We stayed in the gypsy rock room which was neat and the bed was cozy. The folks who work in the office are super welcoming and nice. They have horseback riding on site so I urge you to take advantage of that.

If you are looking for an unusual room this place might be for you. It is quite expensive, it is a fun experience and very unusual. That said, I’d rather have my money back! So many things that were poor that should not be for the price paid. The door locks are for the 90’s and are a pain in the butt! The TV had to Guide!!! Really?! To turn the shower off you need to be a strong man! Nit-picky perhaps but for $600!!! Come on! As a final bonus the person checking us in was a real A-Hole! Why?The restaurant was equally expensive for underwhelming well dressed food. There are definitely better ways to spend your cash but I am happy to have had the experience.They do have some very tasty and unique adult beverages.

Wonderful kitschy paradise! It was a dream walking through the main building. This place had been on my historical Americana bucket list, and I was so happy to finally pay a short visit. We stopped for brunch and explored afterwards. The shops were very cute. The steakhouse was like something out of Alice in Wonderland. The pictures of the rooms look funky and fun but I wouldn’t know what a stay is like. If you’re driving by, make sure to stop by to just take it all in.

Breakfast at Copper Cafe with my daughter for Mothers Day, I had the frittata w/side fruit. It was extremely hot and very bland. My daughter had a delved egg sandwich that also needed some kind of seasoning for taste. Salt and pepper didnt help much.We love the Madonna inn, probably skip the cafe and enjoy everything else.

This was an amazing stop. First time there but not the first for my company who highly recommended it. Just delicious especially the pies. This is an unique experience. If you have the chance and the money then go. Dont even think about not going!

This whole place is fantasy land. If you really want to get away, or into roll play...Its pretty cool. From check in, to the rooms, to their restaurant, and check out. Make a Reservation if there is a particular room you want.The reason I only gave 4 of 5 stars. I got this funny feeling we were being watched. Then I thought I saw eyeballs shining from the bathroom. Im hoping it was just my imagination. Some rooms are just too creepy. But fun

I understand the rooms are nostalgic, but for nearly $400 per night they should still be clean and fresh not old and worn out. The mattress is years beyond its expiration as was the red carpet which was worn and faded. The shower head was loose making it hard to take a shower. And how much effort would it take to update electrical outlets with USB ports to charge phones. Food in the restaurant was expensive and nothing special. All in all it was a bit of let down considering the expectations.

The rooms are so unique that there are no adjectives to describe them well enough. We stayed in the Swiss Belle. How creative the original owners were in designing. The shower was a surprise waterfallThe pool area is secluded and very inviting for a swim or a relaxing dip in hot spa.The whole facility is like a museum tour. Great restaurant and the cakes are spectacularThe stay might be a little pricey but all so worthwhileWe will be back with family and friends

I came 9 years ago and have been so excited to get back ever since, but this time it felt like they hadnt cleaned or touched up anything since. I love that its supposed to be kitschy, but everything is so worn, its lost some of its luster which makes me sad.The great: the pool was nice, lunch at the cafe was good, and the waterfall shower makes me wanna give it 5 stars butThe bad: the bed and pillows were pretty terrible, our TV was skipping like a cd while running in the 90s, and there was broken glass all over the room which they said they didnt see when we asked them to clean it. The bathroom had no fan/vent so towels stank after 12 hours.The okay: the steakhouse was expensive for very bland food.... But then they saved it with the pink champagne cake for our anniversary, which is probably the best cake weve ever had.

And the staff told me to go to McPhee’s in Templeton which was also awesome! Excellent guests. The most interesting guests who never fail to be awesome. 😎

This place has been on my bucket list for too long.Front desk staff was professional but it was too rushed. Not a welcoming feeling.We got a couple of free postcards from our room which were really nice.Overall, what an amazing experience I had with my girlfriends.We waited a bit to check the time but we enjoyed walking in their secret garden. So pretty and the flowers are beautiful.We stayed 2 nights in the 185 sky room. gorgeous chandeliers, comfy beds and the stairs look like a cute fairy tale. This room definitely took us back on time.It was perfect for our group of 5 girls. We enjoyed taking gorgeous photos from the top area. The little balcony was perfect for a morning coffee and chatting. The views are gorgeous. The mornings are spectacular with the sound of nature all around us. First night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Golden Rush Steak House.It is perfect for a dress up dinner. The staff was amazing and the food delicious.Second day we did a beach walk and breakfast at Avila beach 15 minutes away from the hotel. Then we enjoyed their beautiful pool and jacuzzi. So relaxing. They also have a spa available.Reservations are a must.Then we hit the tennis court for some sporty time. The tennis court is pink and well-maintained. We love it. Dinner time we went to Cooper cafe and the hamburgers were delicious!Then, we went to their bar and Jazz night. It was so much fun. The music was fantastic and we danced all night. We called the front desk for a ride back to our room. They picked us up on one of their famous pink golf carts. The driver was so kind and funny. We really enjoyed the ride and were grateful that it was available and we didnt have to drive after parting.Our last meal was at the Cooper Cafe and it was really yummy and the cakes Oh my goodness! So yummy. The staff is really nice!Parking lot is big.Definitely a lot of walking and theres no elevators. So keep in mind when you pack for your next adventure at this beautiful location.The whole place is perfect for a photoshoot. Photography is allowed but a professional photography permit is required. The shops had all kinds of goodies and souvenirs to take back home.Family friendly environment. Handicap accessible in some areas but not all around.Perfect location for tourist destinations and easy to find. Entrance right next to the freeway.Hotel $$$Restaurants $$Shops $$$Bar $$I definitely recommend this beautiful place for a fun weekend.Make sure you do your reservations way in advance. Restaurant reservations were made through the OpenTable app. Enjoy.

Youre going to love it or, well, not. If you like quirky, over the top fantasies, youve found it. Our group had 7 rooms, the Modonna Suite was by far the best. But check out all the rooms (everyone of them unique) on the website and choose the one that speaks to you! Service was a positive. The bar was fun with live big band era dancing on Saturday night. Did not eat at the restaurant but a local said not to miss the filet. Service was great!

I hate leaving bad reviews,😭 especially on Mothers Day 💐💐❤️, as this has been my favorite place for a long, long time. I have to agree with the other recent post here about the people being mean at the front desk at check in. This has NEVER happened before here. As a kid, we would stay here when we were in horse shows etc. and it was always fun and welcoming. Over the years I have stayed here many times a year. Detail oriented was what the Madonna always was, I hope its not changing now with the changing times😬. No greeting when I came in, just Checking In??!ID and credit card...I was like okay...hmmm... When I showed the reservation number on my phone, she responded, I dont need that as I was in the process of getting the other pieces I knew she needed from my purse. I continued to ask her how she was, hows her day and just no response. I thought my city of San Francisco was known for rudeness ☺️🌞😎 but in reality our customer service is much better up there. I dont get it, Im a teacher so I get when people have bad days, be patient but she was just angry and not someone I would want representing a great place like the Madonna. I asked her name and she said Kat. I love Leo in the steakhouse, so I hope to see him later today.✨🙏👍We love you Madonna, my kiddos and I, just get nicer desk staff.💕💖Happy 💐 Mothers Day.

The experience wasn’t worth the drive from San Diego county . Actually I regret going to the inn . It wasn’t worth the stay for the price I paid . The paper thin walls, the $15 dollar diabetic pastries and the overpriced food . I would have rather stayed at the town where the bubble gum wall is at. That place is a party town, tons of bars, and is a ten minute drive from the stupid hotel . The place is only good for a few photos and a souvenir, and then leave it at the back of your mind

It was a great hotel... 50 years ago. Now it is dilapidated, bathroom, bath, shower, toilet are way outdated. Old carpet,old small tv, etc,etc. Crowded restaurant, in the morning (10 Am) waiting time 1.5 hours. Even if you are staying in the hotel.It is worth to visit, especially bar, restaurant, but to stay .. not sure.

Madonna Inn is one of my favorite places. All 110 rooms are on my bucket list. The rooms are beautiful and lavishly comfortable, the food is amazing, and the spa, pool, and peaceful grounds with gorgeous flowers renews your spirit. Even if you dont stay, go for the filet mignon and toffee crunch cake. Look around and pay attention to all of the little details. You wont regret it!

Weve eaten here many times and just stayed a night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a great time. All the employees are so nice and the food is always on point. We stayed in the Buffalo Room and it was really fun. Thats the 3rd room Ive stayed in there and all are unique and different. I mainly wanted to write to commend John (sp?) on his exemplary customer service and friendliness.After ending up ill the day of my reservation, I called to see what options I had since it was past the 24 hour deposit refund period. John allowed me to reschedule my reservation with the deposit already placed and even when as far as describing the rooms to me when trying to find another since my original selection was not available. The room ended up being less cost, so he recommended charging dinner to the room to utilize the remainder of my deposit. I feel most people wouldnt go to the lengths John did. I never once felt rushed while on the phone with him.I enjoying visiting the Madonna Inn because the standards they continuously uphold, and after getting off the phone with John, my feeling of this was even stronger. I will keep returning for this reason. Thank you, John! I hope to run in to you on one of my trips there so I may still thank you in person!

Super cool hotel. Each room has a completely different theme. This year we stayed in the Crystal Room and, you guessed it, the room had lots of crystal chandeliers and lamps.Last time I went there we stayed in the Safari Room which has a full size real tiger pelt (with tigers head on it) hanging over the headboard and a rock shower (I highly recommend rooms that, have the rock showers... so cool). If youre against animals that are skinned, this wont be the room for you but there are several other rooms with rocks in them like the Cave Room or Barrel of Fun room.Seperately, everything inside the main hotel area is pink, pink, pink... including your receipts for anything you purchase.Dont miss out on the steak house if you like meat cuz those 14-16 oz delicious steaks wont disappoint!And of course, all the leather booths are PINK as is the bar, the cafe, and the gift shops. Even the tennis court is pink!Theres also a great 4 mile hiking trail around the property too.If youre driving up from SoCal, dont forget to stop in Summerland to visit: 1) Summerland Cafe (est in 1898), 2) huge Antique store just one block up from the cafe, and 3) the Sacred Garden about 1/2 mile away which sells a ton of crystals and has the most phenomenal garden space outside to get a nice zen break from your drive.Also relatively nearby to the Madonna Inn is the quaint little town of Solvang (its a Danish town with windmills and tons of fabulous pastries shops). You can even go to Ostrich Land nearby to feed to Ostriches.If youre debating staying at The Madoona Inn and like unique experiences, this place will not disappoint you. Take your time to look at pics of all the available rooms and pick one that sings to your soul!

While we didnt stay at the hotel, we did eat breakfast/lunch here! The dining room was very whimsical, and filled with ornate decor and history, which instantly egnited the imagination of my inner child! It seemed to be like something right out of a storybook. From the candies and cookies, to the array of giant layer cakes decorated in the most ornate ways, (my favorite being the PINK signature layer cake) there is definitely something for everyone here! The Monte Cristo sandwich was incredibly delicious, and like no other! It came with three types of jams to choose from too! What a great idea, from our friends, to try the Monte Cristo as a fun appetizer if you are in the mood for something else more savory for breakfast or lunch. It comes in 4 slices! You wont be disappointed! The spinach salad was giant, and topped with loads of bacon and cheese. Ask to try the honey mustard dressing! The sweet potato fries and dip were absolutely decadent, and perfectly crispy! The plates of food were so plentiful ...even more than two people could share! The bathrooms here were wildly amazing! 🤯Take my word for it...You will just have to see for yourself!!! Make sure to walk through the gift shop while you are here also! I was thrilled to see they sold the restaurants famous drinking glasses here. They are magical, especially the iridescent ones! Extraordinary Sensory Overload!! What a great experience!! We stayed here for a wedding. This place should be borderline condemned. The whole place smells musty and moldy. Everything feels dirty and decrepit.There’s old frayed wiring in the rooms that looks like they were done by “a guy” 50 years ago.I took out the ironing board and it literally fell apart. All the screws and bolts just fell off when I opened it up.The restaurants food is okay but it’s hard to get past the musty and rusty smell. Plus again everything feels dirty and decrepit.The only saving grace of this place is the great service provided by the restaurant staff.

Before we booked we went on the website. The hotel was advertising Light at the Sensario listed on the website. It is some sort of art installation.Upon checking in, my friend, asked how we would get to the installation, and about tickets. The young lady at reception, named, Katja, paused then said thats like, in Paso, 30 minutes away, we dont have a shuttle. And that was the end of the conversation. Katja then asked for a phone number because our room was not yet ready. My friend started to give her number and Katja pointed at me and said No, HER number. if we were somewhere on the border of Ukraine and Russia, Katja would have been the perfect person to receive visitors.While we waited for our room, we visited the pool. Wow what a nightmare. There was so much garbage strewn about the entire area. We had to search for towels. There were SO MANY KIDS. At least 4 different games were being played in the pool, which all included large heavy balls. One, thrown by an adult man who first had to take a running start and cannonball into the pool, landed with a watery thump, right next to us.

The Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo is a famous 3 star hotel which attracts visitors from all over the world. The hotel rooms are uniquely decorated and its a fun place to stay. We attended my daughters wedding here, and the facilities are vast and similar decorated with eclectic designs. The property also includes a Tesla Supercharger, so we were happy to charge here. This is a great place to stay or visit.

We have been coming to the Madonna Inn for over 25 years. Its beautiful and the restaurant and bakery are awesome. The Madonna Inn is charming and very classy. It is nestled up against the hillside and has a very unique tutor style. All the rooms have a different theme, so you can pick the type of room youre in the mood for. Weve tried many different rooms and they were all great. We especially like a room that has a rock fireplace, little dining table and a balcony . One morning we enjoyed coffee and bagels on our balcony. The pool is a smooth edge pool that is on a hill and has a beautiful view overlooking San Luis Obispo. You can also have lunch by the pool or under a gazebo and you can also enjoy having a drink sitting in one the the heated hot tubs. Theres so much more I could say, but just trust me, come and experience The Madonna Inn for yourself. You wont be sorry and know youll want to come back.

Someone had a vision when they designed this place— with a different design for each room (as long as each design is Italian in sensibility, with various color and textural appointments). My wife loved it. She saw charm wherever she looked. I saw disfunction, with old electrical outlets too loose to hold a plug, a damaged TV cable with performance problems, a thermostat that listened only to “on” and “off”, a wobbly light socket, one bar of internet on an unprotected network.It is difficult and amazing and artistic to build a curved wall out of rock instead of a flat wall out of prefab materials- so cudos to the builders- but the luxury prices are not matched by any luxury infrastructure.

Today was my 1 st time at this historic hotel. It was like going back in time, to the 80-90s. Movie stars on the walls, even Reba has been there. You can by their rug pattern in a robe with matching slippers.The food seemed expensive. And whats funny is a Dennys restaurant is next door.His wife played an instrument. Seems like their parties were nice. I found left over party hats, and a large dance floor. This is what I believe this current generation is missing.

What can I say about the Madonna that probably hasnt been said before? A one of a kind location thats somehow both gaudy and tasteful? With a variety of dining and drinking experiences at your disposal, a place you can throw down, get down or just wind down? Somehow good for either a family get together or a romantic getaway, its a really fun hotel thats been entertaining travellers for years.

Please note, this review is about the Copper Cafe only. Just had lunch there today and was very disappointed. I’ll preface this by saying we had our wedding reception at the Madonna Inn over 30 years ago which was at the time exceptional. Have had multiple anniversary dinners in the steak house. Some good, some not so good. Last August 2023, very good! Today, we each had 1/2 roast beef sandwich and salad, split a side of sweet potato fries. Modest amount of beef arrived on plain white bread topped with a large portion of iceberg lettuce. Salad was a basic spring mix with three grape tomatoes and a small tin of dressing. One small pile of fries on a plate was added. Unfortunately the service was very slow as well. We are very patient people but this was a bit sluggish in our view. We can live with most of it, but the kicker is $19.95 for each half sandwich and $8.95 for the fries. We only had water. Total $53.00 including tax. And yes, we left an $11.00 tip on top of that. We will no doubt go back to the steak house in the future, but the Copper Cafe has little value for the prices they charge.

Great place to visit if you are in the San Luis Obispo area, the pink cake is great on taste a little bit pricey for my taste but its worth to go at least once the montecristo sandwich was nice but a regular lunch will run you at least $60 per person, service was ok and everything seem clean very photogenic, they let you look a t the property even if you dont are in as a guest, the day I went they where celebrating a wedding in one of the gardens theres also a sort of museum and gift shop beside the famous restroom with the waterfall

This review is of the restaurant only. Ordered pickup and was pleasantly surprised. While the burgers were ok, my wife loved the Rib eye was the best she had ever had. We also enjoyed a slice of their cake. The champagne cake was far better than the blackout cake. Servive could have been better as we were bounced around from booth to booth looking for where to pickup our food. Additionally we had ordered sweet potatoe fries, which unfortunately was not in our bag when we got home. The interior of the dining room was very interesting, a blast from the past for sure. Overall enjoyed our trip here and whould recommend it to other.

I have visited Madonna Inn 3 times (to eat at the cafe/use spa) and stayed once. The interior is so beautiful and a maximalist dream. The staff is really friendly and chill about visiting the cafe/restaurant and taking photos. The rooms are decorated very creatively. The rooms are definitely more motel vibes, but better than an average motel. The pool is very nice, and heated. The spa is worth mentioning: it felt very luxurious and I was pampered by the plush robe, lovely tea and cookies, and of course, the massage itself. Madonna Inn is the highlight of SLO. I will definitely stay here again.

A destination on its own.Do not miss dinner in the steakhouse.Every employee we interacted with was charming and felt like they genuinely were happy to help.Take your time choosing a room. Ive previously stayed in rooms with rock waterfall showers, very fun. But they are chilly and dark. Might be a good choice in the heat months. This time we chose Starlight and were happy. Its top floor with soaring ceilings and a private balcony.The boutique shopping is SO good. Very nice stuff in there.

The room was fun. But very old and dirty. The floors creaked nonstop and we had to get new keys twice for a one night stay. The hot tub was disgusting and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. The restaurant was delicious for dinner and the stores were fun to look at. It’s worth it for the experience of something unique but would not stay more than an one night.

To celebrate my 70th birthday I was finally able to spend a few days at Madonna Inn. It did not disappoint. (Except we had a room on the third floor and warning…there are no elevators!). The room was the “tall and short “ and it was absolutely all pink! Lovely veranda with a great view. Spacious and comfortable. The breakfast we enjoyed at the Copper Cafe was amazing. (We had reservations). Dinner in the dining room was the best food I’ve ever eaten. I didn’t know filets could be that delicious. To full for cake so we took 3 pieces of 3 kinds to go for the rest of our trip. The pieces are large enough to share!! The pool area is beautiful, as are the jacuzzi’s. All staff we encountered were cheerful and helpful. I love this place and hope to go back sometime!

Lost the reservation even though they took my cc .Were snotty that they lost the reservation.Told my father not to worry he will not starve with a look. ( were fat)French toast was nasty. Made with thin cheap bread.The cream for coffee was rotten.They replaced the coffee cream with milk.My meal was cold(linguisa and eggs)My silverwear was covered in syrup, and the napkin was sticky and used.I wanted pie to take home.Had to come back 3 times to get all the slices of pie.The credit card was charged for missing the reservation.I have been going here for 50 years.My uncles built the place with alex.My uncle johnny was one of alexs original road crew workers.Super disapointed. TLDR: front desk girl Katya/ Katiya was very rude and hostile to my wife and I when we asked if we could switch to a room with 1 King bed.It has been a while since I felt justified enough to write a negative review. My wife and I had booked a 2-night stay at Madonna Inn for a trip to SLO/Paso Robles during the New Years weekend. After booking, I noticed that I mistakenly booked the wrong room (2 full beds instead of 1 king bed) so I called the hotel immediately to see if I can change the room. The lady I spoke to (named Stephanie) informed me that I since I had booked it through Expedia they wouldn’t be able to alter anything on their end. But she was pleasant enough to tell me that there were plenty of rooms still available and that I could just come to the registration desk and have it changed. When we arrived to the Madonna Inn the next day, there was a lady and a man at the front desk. As we check-in, I mention to the lady of my error and ask if it was possible to change rooms. In a harsh but passive aggressive tone she said she doesn’t know she could help me because they were pretty fully booked. Her attitude set me aback as I didn’t think I said anything to aggravate her. I then mention to her my surprise as I had spoken with Stephanie over the phone and she had informed me there were plenty of rooms available. The lady then became very defensive and said I had probably called in a long time ago and was given outdated information. I told her that I called in just last night (My mistake, it was during the day) to which she immediately snapped back at me ‘Stephanie didn’t work here last night’. This made the man standing next to her (slender with short hair and dark goatee, who was no doubt listening into our entire convo despite looking down to his computer the entire time) let out a loud and pretentious chortle, which only added further insult to injury. She then said she can give us a king bed for only one night but we would have to go back to our original room the next night to which I agreed would be fine. As she was making the arrangements she admitted (unsurprisingly) that she couldn’t actually help us because we had booked through a third party so we would have to stay in our original room with two beds. She then proceeded to tell us that we should never book through a third party to which I replied that I had only done so because I was using reward points via my credit card. However, I couldnt help but think, why am I being scolded for using a third party site to book a hotel stay? The entire exchange continued in a manner in which she was “talking back” to me in a cold, passive aggressive tone. Sensing that she was not willing to be the least bit accomodating, I decided not to exacerbate any further and agreed to keep our original room so we didn’t have to have any more negativity added onto a trip that has, in a way, not even begun. Before heading out, I made sure to ask for her name, to which she replied Katya/ Katiya.All in all it’s totally acceptable that they didn’t have a room for us. It was my mistake to begin with. But for my simple inquiry to be met with such hostility and rudeness left such a bad taste in my mouth that it nearly ruined our trip from the get-go. I was simply stunned by how a professional working in the hospitality industry could display an attitude that was anything but. On a final note, I would like to add that we would have very pleasant interactions with other staff at the Madonna Inn (restaurant, cafe bakery, and shop) but my wife and I have been severely disapponted by our experience with the Madonna staff at the front desk.

We have ALWAYS wanted to see this amazing place, always, and we finally were near there and off we went. The second we got in the door our mouths were wide open in delight. WOW. Absolutely WOW. It was as if we had walked into the middle of the last century, and could actually visualize the big bands and dancing on their massive dance floor and dining room, which was over the top in pink flowers and decor. Wonderful comfy leather booths everywhere. Fantastic. Everywhere we turned were massive fire places things to see. The dining room was more then welcoming, and the bakery offered must see mile high cakes and cinnamon rolls. We were just visiting, but we already plan on going back and eating and staying there.

Im a regular here for drinks and dinner. What I love about this pink palace is that it is always lively and has music nights. I love coming her for comfort foods and the cakes are out of this world good. You cant go wrong with the cream pies either but the fruit pies here are lacking. What I have noticed is that they need more bartenders. Always a line and some people jump the line. Also the tables by the bar are always dirty! I know the bartenders are always busy but I wish there was a few cocktail waitresses taking orders and cleaning up a bit. Madonna please clean the webs and dead flies from the window near the bar. Overall I love this place especially the raspberry gimlet.

The themed rooms are fun, although ours had a broken light fixture,and a hole in our window screen. The ice machines are very old and out in the sun. Not sure how often they are cleaned. The decor in the dining rooms is very old but iconic to the area. My bed was very comfortable but thats the highlight of my stay. the hot tub has tiles missing it looks like it hasnt been cleaned in awhile! they dont have enough umbrellas in the pool area for all the guests.But you have a nice view of the surrounding hills and town. Food is very pricey and if you want pie you need to get it early because they tend to run out.

You arrive thinking youll stop in to check out what others have said about the place. Maybe a Wild Card baseball game is on. Maybe its the Cubs and Rockies. Is their bar a great spot to watch a playoff baseball game? No...but, yes. A few people leave and now you and your friend get the two good seats. Good, because the TV is pretty small and they are your best shot at seeing the game. People come, people go. You have a couple drinks, maybe whiskey. Then, time seems to stand still at the same time it moves at warp speed. Its the fifth inning FOREVER, but also, your friend is dancing with a stranger and being insulted by the man on piano. You look back seconds (minutes?) later and your friend dances alone. Theres no music being played. The Cubs are struggling. The whiskey no longer has a taste. Your friend is gone, hes back, the bar is full, you look back at the stranger who was dancing with your friend and realize that she is trying to talk to you while they kick your friend out. He wont leave quietly, not here, not now. They barter with him, by handing over four bottles of Coors Light. Then youre sitting in the parking lot drinking the beer. The Cubs won. The bottles of beer are broken in the darkness. Your room is painted red. Theres a horse you can ride in the room. Your friend does. The bill didnt seem outlandish given the seven hours you were drinking in the bar. You think that as you fall asleep.You think, its the Madonna Inn; we do it once a year.

From checking in to the steakhouse, something needs to be revamped.Forest (server) and Michiah (busser) were fabulous. Forest was hilarious when we ordered our take out. Kayla, our server, was okay. I was woken up by banging and screeching every time anyone would use the water in a surrounding room and the pipes would start making a slamming sound. It was not quiet at all and it happened A LOT. I suspect that all three bottles have exactly the same contents...whether or not this was intended or just a lazy refill ..unknown.The mattress - wow...felt very worn out..saggy, and mediocre comfort.The not good-->The desk staff encountered during my visit -Indifferent and aloof staff person attitude at check-in.Unwilling or unable to address basic check in questions.Just one data point, but not a good first impression.Unfortunately ...Checkout no different - desk person failed to inquire if stay was OK, etc... I provided the staff person time and opportunity to ask, but nothing.Summary - fun to try out once. Hope management addresses first and last impressions desk staff leaves.

Amazing place. We had stopped by a few times while passing through SLO but this time we were finally able to spend the night.The room did not disappoint! We stayed in the Caren room (each room has a different theme). It was an explosion of pink, which is my wifes favorite color. Besides being a beautiful room, we were essentially at the top of a tower with no neighbors and a beautiful view of the horse ranch from one balcony and the freeway on the other balcony. Opening up both sliding doors allowed an amazing breeze to pass through the room.Would definitely stay there again. 10/10!

We finally had the chance to stay here. Took us about 5 year but it was absolutely amazing. Wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The hotel décor was very beautiful and different. Once I entered the front desk, I was greeted with a smile right away. It was really kind that the staff also provided us with champagne. The view from our room is beautiful. The bathrooms are so awesome. It was a plus that it had a bidet.The room we stayed at was the Whispering Hills. The room was very spacious, beautiful, and very cleaned. Food at the restaurant absolutely sucks... 3rd try at this overpriced and overrated carnival. Prime rib couldnt be cut with anything less than a chainsaw. Replacement steak was in the kitchen, soaking in Au jus for hours... salt cured piece of grissel.Only those who are admirers of the kings new clothes would ever say Madonna Inn restaurants are worth the wait, the pour service, or the cost of such a 3rd rate (being generous) restaurant. My husband and I booked the Hideaway room here. It was quite the experience. The only downside was that the wifi didnt work too well the first night. Possibly because the walls are made of stone.We went to the cafe for breakfast and the service and food were excellent. We also visited the infinity pool. The interesting thing was that the pool was hot like a hot tub and the hot tubs were regular pool temperature. They also have a pool bar which has some food and drinks. They even bring your food out to you!There are three gift shops there. A wine cellar shop which is downstairs, a boutique store upstairs, and a regular gift shop upstairs. Excellent chocolate and some cool items for sale including the goblets that they have at the restaurants. The love story behind this is a beautiful one. The staff in the cafe for breakfast were wonderful. Josh was very personable. The coffee was fresh and hot. The eggs Benedict super yummy.I took my husband back for dinner on a Friday night. It was very busy. There was a private party with a live band playing which was a wonderful addition to the atmosphere. The meal prices were much higher than I expected. We started with the mushroom fries which were fantastic.Our meals came and they were huge. Way more food than we could eat in one sitting. We were traveling and unfortunately couldn’t bring our leftovers home with us.

I love this place but it appears to be poorly managed and the maintenance is clearly not a top priority, this has always been my favorite place on the central coast, but after this last visit Im incredibly disappointed by the condition of the buildings, everything needs a coat of paint, light bulbs are out on the patio, mold stains on the outside of the building.Its truly heart breaking to write this review, but if someone doesnt step up and fix this beautiful old land mark its going to deteriorate to the point that theyll have to close it down and I would never want to see that.Nort: I see this as a Cost/Value proposition and my most recent stay is definitely not worth the $400 cost.

I didnt end up staying at the Madonna Inn, but I did have the opportunity to walk around the grounds and take some photos of this truly one-of-a-kind destination. The architecture and décor are simply stunning, and I was amazed by the attention to detail in every aspect of the design. Even if youre not staying at the inn, I would highly recommend taking a stroll around the property to see all of the incredible sights.

It is so over the top with the decor, but that is what makes it so lovely, quirky and full of personality.My husband and I stayed one night in the Chestnut Foal room 181. The registration office is a little bit past the first parking lot you drive through. Keep driving and park near the registration office, leave your bags in the car because you will have to drive up the road a bit more to your room. The registration went smoothly. My card did get the $50 room fee charged twice which made me a little nervous. We were able to check into our room 2 hours early, which was so amazing!We drove up to the building where our room was. Parking is a little limited. We went up a beautiful spiral staircase to get to our room on the 3rd floor. Our room was so beautiful! I loved it so much! The air conditioner worked like a dream, there was a small refrigerator, a small coffee maker, iron, hair dryer, safe and 2 plush robes for us to wear during our stay. There was a menu to order breakfast for the next morning that we filled out and attached to our doorknob.There were some light bulbs that were burned out which was a little bit of a bummer. There was only one outlet (other than the bathroom) that was easy to get to but it was away from the bed. The bathroom could use an extra table so you can have a spot to put your toiletries on as well as a rack for a hand towel.We went to the pool which was a short walk up a nice pathway. The pool was heated and maybe went up to 5ft deep. There were two hot tubs, one was more out in the open, the other was more secluded. We loved that the pool stayed open till 11pm. We went to the pool twice during our stay. The bar at the pool was okay, my husband and I waited in line forever the first time we went in we were going to buy sunscreen, a coozie and some drinks; when we got to the counter the bartender didnt even acknowledge us and worked on food orders with his back to us. We put our stuff back and just walked out.Earlier when we had checked in I went online and made a reservation for the steakhouse and I am so glad I did. It was packed when we showed up for our reservation at 8pm. I highly recommend making a reservation and highly recommend eating there. Absolutely amazing meal.In the morning our preordered breakfast was delivered on time. Everything was correct except we got two danishes (yum!) when we ordered one danish and one croissant. The coffee was large, we got lots of sugar and half and half. The orange juices were like 16oz and so tasty. The breakfast sundae was delicious, but definitely over priced.Checking out was really easy and the person checking me out said we could keep the key cards as a souvenir. I brought up that my card was charged twice with the $50 hold and they assured me it would be removed.It was such a wonderful stay and I look forward to staying in various rooms here in the future.

Last weekend was my second visit to Madonna Inn, and I went there with my friend. I ordered my favorite Cocktail shrimp, and a waiter named Forest Wood gave us a pleasant surprise. He knew we were coming from LA for a Tesla event, and in order to make sure we didnt miss out on his treasure relaxation spot, he gave us a detailed description of the best place to watch the sunset and wrote down the exact location for us. The next day, when we finished the event, tired, and wanted to take a group photo at the entrance, he came out from the restaurant and said he remembered us, and took a photo for me to record the good memories. Next, we started to look for the address he wrote on the note for us, and sure enough, we finally reached the top of the mountain after a rough road, and saw a beautiful sunset with a breathtaking view. It was a perfect business trip. I would like to say thank you to Madonna Inn for having such a great staff. It reminds me of the costumer delight plan of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. If every customer on the trip can enjoy such value for money spent we would like to come back every year and recommend all our friends to stay and dine at this hotel! I’ve lived in SoCal for the past decade or so and I’ve always wanted to stay at the Madonna Inn. This weekend a family wedding afforded that opportunity. I’ve heard a lot of LA based podcast chatter about the cool eccentric rooms, the amazing cakes etc. How best to describe…well if you’re ever been to Graceland’s (Memphis Tennessee) you’ve been to the Madonna Inn. It has the same faded glory, no expense spared no taste involved feel damp musty feel. There are many fabulous vintage hotels in SoCal, like the stunning Biltmore in LA or the beautiful Del Mar in my home town San Diego, both have been lovingly restored and upgraded…unlike the Madonna Inn…which is a hot mess.First a PSA…if you have any difficulty getting around this is not for you. It is hilariously ADA incompatible. Several of my group coincidentally had “handicapped” rooms…only problem is the disability bars were only loosely attached. The “Outlook” style hotel room buildings up up a vertiginously steep slope from the restaurant and bar buildings. One awesome thing they could offer would be to turn one of their many maintenance golf carts into a guest shuttle to help some of the many older folk go up and down Mount Madonna.We had one of their signature rock based rooms. If you are a Star Trek fan I would liken it to that episode where a sentient rock was cured by Spock with a trowel and some cement. They are probably real but looked fake. It was a “garden suite” which means it was mostly underground and thus dark, dank and musty. The AC was a standalone which had all the vigor of an asthmatic cat. The lighting was either two dazzlingly bright Liberace chandeliers or one dull 50’s table lamp. The bed was predictably awful and lacked a bed head leaving a foot or so gap from the end of the bed to the rock face. That makes sitting up in bed impossible and affords the sleeper the opportunity to loose their pillows, devices and heads in the crevasse. It also boasted an early 70’s red LED alarm radio.Did you want to plug in your devices…nope! There was one plug out in the ravine at the end of the bed, luckily we travel with an extender or we’d have been buddy breathing. They achieve power elsewhere by trailing cables which is suspect isn’t code. The dark creepy bathroom is poorly lit and lacks an extractor fan (another code problem). The wardrobe is a metal rod stuck in one corner. The TV was decent…didn’t get round to seeing if there was anything above basic cable. When we arrived about 4 the WiFi was great (around 40mb) but come streaming o’clock it was down to a 1-2mb crawl…which renders streaming moot.The tap water is awful, they do provide a couple of bottles and the water in the restaurants is fine, which suggests they have chlorine filters in place there. The food is pretty good (predictably pricey but large portions…you might want to share) the cakes are great and the steak served at the wedding was impressive for catered food. The drinks are pricey but the pour is generous.The pool is nice but to get one of the dozen or so loungers you have to duel with pistols at dawn, there’s plenty of space…just nowhere near enough loungers.Every one on staff was friendly, polite and competent no complaints there. They don’t offer maid service unless you call for it…we didn’t. I’d feel better about this decaying manse but for the price. They are a wedding venue and they gouge the folk who need stay there…$365 a night for a dank dark cave with minimal everything is very steep!The place trades on its historic reputation but the awful standard of cleanliness and maintenance means hat unless you are drunk all stay (and many are you) will likely feel cheated and skeeved out. I heard a lot of “it is what it is” comments.Next time there’s a family wedding there we’re staying at the Days Inn down the hill. If you want to experience the whole Madonna thing…go ahead…you have been warned.

WORST SERVICE IN MY LIFE!!!!!Went to go to take my boyfriend for the first time and went to eat at the restaurant.Went to just get dessert and they sat us at the coffee bar where another party who sat after us got greeted and served first then when it came to use we ordered a piece of cake which was so dry and not sweet at all. We were surprised we even got water at most.The waiter went to talk to the two other parties besides us asking them questions about their trip what brought them there and all! While, my boyfriend and I, who were of color didn’t get served or greeted or any type of hospitality!!! Racist is all I have to say! Thirty years ago we stopped at the Madonna Inn for a gas and restroom break. It was an amazing place, sort of a fantasy hotel, and wed always wanted to come back and stay. We finally got a chance and enjoyed it a lot. The onsite eateries were good, and went we felt like venturing out, we found a couple good restaurants, one Thai, the other a brewpub, just a short drive away. I could stayed at the Inn the whole trip, but we found it to be a great base for exploring the area. Highly recommended.

Had a terrible experience with the front desk staff. We arrived at the hotel around 3pm and went to check in. We didn’t realize their check-in is at 4 so had to wait an hour for the room to be cleaned. We were told that once the room was done, we would get a call and they would bring the room key up to where the pool area is. 4 o’clock came and no one called so we drove back down to the office to ask for the key. We got the key, drove to the room and upon walking in realized there were still maids inside and the room wasn’t done. Once again, drove back down to the office to let them know the room isn’t ready and that if that’s the case we’d need a different room as we needed to use the shower and get ready asap for an event that started at 5. We were assisted by Katya and she was extremely rude and condescending. Lectured us about “just because you arrived early doesn’t mean your room is gonna be ready” even though at this point it was after 4pm, their “guaranteed check-in” time. There was no “sorry about that” or “let me see what we can do” just bad attitude and absolutely zero customer service. We felt patronized and disrespected. This isn’t the type of service your guests should be greeted with Madonna Inn, do better.

Travellers Room was a hit. This place is surreal. Plush carpets, plenty of space to spread out and lovely tub. Once youre on the property there is a vibe unlike anywhere else. The pool is a walk in pool on the terrace, right at a waterfall. There is a bar at the pool and it is open until 11PM. We had a great time walking the grounds, just bring an umbrella if somehow rain is in the forecast so you arent drenched on your walk to the Steakhouse.

This was my first visit but I have stayed at the hotel several times over the years. We each have a love for the Madonna Inn and the service has always been exceptional. This day, sadly, was different and so disappointing I doubt any of us will return. The front desk clerk was extremely rude. So rude that one of my friends wanted to leave. There was a narrow staircase leading to our room that could have been tough for someone that has trouble with stairs. The property is really spread out, on a hill, and lots of uneven ground. So if you aren’t very mobile be very careful in picking your room.

This week we booked a night for my wifes birthday because she just loves it here. We ate in the dining room it was such a treat and they make a big deal of special occasions. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds Ive ever slept in and the view from the room was AMAZING!However that being said the walls are paper thin. Either that or our neighbors were extraordinarily loud. We heard almost every conversation. If youre reading this and youre the lady whos electric toothbrush turned itself on during your travel and killed the battery. Im sure its not quite the catastrophe you thought it was at 7am when I was woken up to the sounds of you telling your family about it.Minus the loud neighbors this was a perfect trip and well be back with ear plugs next time!

Madonna Inn is located in San Luis Obispo County, California (for those that have never heard of it). My stepson got married here, and its a vintage destination wedding venue in a beautiful area! We ate at the copper cafe our cutlery was dirty the shrimp cocktail was served with a tomato sauce and wilting lettuce.Having read the good reviews on line we were extremely dissapointed in the food.

Dining review only: I visited the Madonna Inn’s Silver Bar Cocktail Lounge and Copper Cafe. This place is magical with the decor and detailed designs everywhere! What a fun place to visit and the vibe was cheery and also chill. The staff were attentive and friendly. I appreciated a section on the menu specifically for Vegan items. Plenty of parking available. Include time to wander the main building and their shops and the bakery counter. The decorative chocolates were the best!

We were absolutely spoiled by the Madonna Inn on our anniversary trip. We stayed in room 167, Ren, and when we walked in we were surprised to see a bottle of Champagne. The hotel was absolutely beautiful and full of character. The restaurants, shops and the POOL were amazing. We will be back again and again!

Going to the Madonna Inn is an experience, one bucket list worthy if you go with the right frame of mind. The rooms are what everyone talks about, and indeed each one is unique. Sure, some of the furnishings are worse for wear, like our sofa with bent out legs, but thats something that adds to the charm. Stay with me here, but for the Madonna Inn, Id rather have high character in the room than stay at a newly remodeled but excessively bland generic hotel. Thats the kind of choice you should make.The staff are friendly and personable, the beds have been thus far comfortable (Ive been several times), and for such a party-like environment, reasonably quiet when I want to go to sleep. The food is satisfying, more than anyone should eat, especially if you stay for dessert (really, stay for dessert, especially the champagne cake)!The inn is an architectural marvel that makes your imagination wander...not easy to do for adults breezing through town. The interiors, especially the restaurants and grandma-was-adventurous-in-the-attic gift shop are outright fun to explore. Take your time, settle in, dance if the big band is playing. The pool is especially relaxing.

This was my first time here. I was here for a family wedding. Its a very unique place that you need to come experience for yourself at least once. The whole place from the front, restaurant, restrooms and rooms, and grounds. I did not personally stay here on this trip. Just what I saw while i was here for the wedding. Also, I heard that this place was built on a spring and that the spring has sprung a little this spring. Come check this place out for a visit or stay.

I have passed by the Madonna Inn a lot since I was young and have never stayed there. When my husband and I were driving back up from Disneyland, we decided to break up the drive, so we stayed the night at the Madonna Inn. We stayed in the California Poppy room and it was really cute. The pool was warm and the views were incredible.We had dinner at the restaurant on property and Sharon was a very sweet server and showed us where the fossils used in the stone work were. It was decorated for Valentines day in the restaurant which really elevates the theming. I loved that so much stuff was pink and really love that signature print.If youve never stayed there, its certainly an experience and worth it at least once. My husband and I already want to go back though.

Come for the atmosphere, not the food or cocktails. Definitely had a ghost join me in the bathroom under the cafe last night. Maintained eye contact and didnt act scared. I then was very polite to let the ghost out of the door I was holding open for her.

I go just for the cakes and baked goods. The cakes are so worth the 2 hour drive. I have never had a complaint. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. And did I mention the cakes 🎂 😊 so delicious. My favorites are the famous Pink Champagne cake and the Raspberry Delight, but they are all so good
