MacArthur place was a beautiful, relaxing hotel and the perfect stay for us during our wedding week! The staff were accommodating, nice and friendly. Shoutout to Erica at the front desk who refrigerated my wedding cake for me! The rooms were spotless and beds were so comfortable. The vibe there is quiet/cozy luxury. We stayed in the magnolia cottage with the outdoor shower which was so lovely! The white rose bushes outside our porch were gorgeous. The food at Layla was also delicious. The service was great. The overall amenities were amazing, we loved the spa and had the best couples massage there. It’s also walking distance to downtown but the valet makes it easy to park and get your car if you want. They even charged my Tesla for me overnight and were so fast bringing our cars. Couldn’t recommend more!!

Stop searching, look no further, and book this place. The accommodations were outstanding, rooms new and so nicely appointed- and SUPER CLEAN!!! You could walk all around the room and your the bottom of your socks stay white! The grounds were beautiful, the pool area so serene, the public spaces beautiful...The location was perfect, about a 10- 12 minute walk in to town. The staff was so nice and helpful and considerate, led by the manager Michael who was simply outstanding. He went out of his way to suggest things to do, and personally set us up with electric bikes and a map to tour the town, which was awesome. A great place to call home for a few days!

Booked my stay at MacArthur Place for my birthday and I was NOT disappointed. The service was top notch and the rooms were well appointed. Location couldn’t have been better. The level of service provided by every member of your staff was truly remarkable. Initially, we had intended on staying at the Four Seasons, but we decided to deviate from our usual booking routine and explore other properties, including MacArthur Place. The welcoming and accommodating nature of your front staff instantly captured our attention, compelling us to stay for one night, with the possibility of extending our stay for a second night.While my girlfriend had work commitments in Napa, I opted to stay back and catch up on some much-needed sleep, which resulted in me sleeping past breakfast hours. However, the outside concierge was kind enough to suggest that I take one of the bicycles and explore the local cafes and wineries, setting the tone for a wonderful day.As a business owner who understands the significance of hiring the right people, I must commend you on the caliber of your team. Hugo and his colleague from Nepal were undoubtedly the highlights of our stay. They were friendly, intelligent, and engaging conversationalists, going above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. Their recommendation to experience the spa and indulge in a massage was nothing short of extraordinary.My only regret is not booking our stay for a week from now when the pool and gym facilities would have been open. This hotel was nice but definitely not worth the money. We could have stayed somewhere more peaceful, with better views and better service. Im really upset we chose this hotel for my parents anniversary celebration.We booked two nicer level rooms, one Garden Shower Guest Room (around $660/night without tax) and one Garden Shower Suite ($768/night). Grand total was around 7k for 4 nights and 4 people. NOT WORTH IT!! Not even close.Both rooms were on the ground floor, had courtyards and outdoor showers. The suite was larger had a larger courtyard and a nice wall in closet, double vanities and makeup area. But for the most part they were quite similar.PROS:The rooms have nice decor and the gardens and landscaping are very pretty.The pool and hot tub were lovely even in the autumn weather we managed to have a swim.The gym is great its very clean has a nice selection of equipment and cool cucumber towelettes. It felt very luxe. We also enjoyed the free yoga class.The bar is cozy and has excellent food and drinks. We enjoyed a couple of meals in the bar.The beds are super comfortable, and the bedding is really soft and luxurious. Unfortunately the lower rooms are quite noisy due to the construction and the upstairs noise (the insulation in the rooms is quite bad) so sleeping wasnt as ideal as it could have been.CONS:Inconsistent! The key term here is that everything was inconsistent, from the food, to the room service, to the turn down service. Nothing about the hotel was excellent or consistently good which you 100% expect at this price point. Sometimes they did turn down and gave you treats sometimes they didnt, sometimes they brought your room service order correctly and within a decent time frame and sometimes they didnt. The food in the restaurant and small grab and go cafe was consistent... Consistently bad.Construction.There was construction next to the hotel that the hotel did not warn us about. The surrounding area is not very peaceful or pretty.Bad service.The employees are poorly trained and seem to be confused most of the time. Some of the front desk staff were just plain rude. I saw someone else complaining to management about the service when I was checked in, I thought she was being dramatic but now I am not surprised...The spa services are really poor quality.I had a masseuse that ranted about his weird political views, stomped around the room and had a really strange slopppy massage style. I would not go back. Note: My sister also didnt have a good experience at the spa.

MacArthur Place is one of those special types of hotel. You come in with high expectations and they seem to exceed them at every turn. Our experience began before we stepped foot on property. Kevin Virgo the Hotel Manager was amazing in dealing with an issue that we had (no fault of the hotel). He was professional and great at communicating. Upon check in, we were offered drinks and upgraded to one of the suites with an outdoor shower and tub. While the pool area was under construction, we didn’t miss it as we were out and about during the day. The property is also a perfect walking distance away from downtown Sonoma - enough to walk off your meal but close enough that it was the logical choice. Sad to say we are our last breakfast at the restaurant on site - it was the best meal of our trip. Wish we would have eaten there more often. Also - the coffee shop hit the spot for a morning pick me up. All in all, one of our best experiences and we will definitely be back.

My husband and I did one of the wedding packages at MacArthur Place, and I’m very happy with our decision. It was late September and the weather was perfect.We LOVED our room. It doesn’t feel like a hotel room because it’s so upscale and luxurious. Our room had a fire place with a nice seating area and it was very easy to start a fire. There was a big soaking tub with a little satchel of lavender and bath salts. We loved the robes. They provide the Dyson hair dryers. They spoiled us with a bottle of champagne, snacks, macarons, and nuts. There was a big BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers for us, which we actually ended up displaying at our wedding.One of the best features is you can send texts to ask questions and get things delivered to your room.The service is so fast and satisfying. For example we used it for:-we needed to print our vows. They brought them to us in a nice folder-We ordered breakfast room service-We had a fork, some water, and another fire log delivered at like 1130 at night.Unfortunately the spa was still being renovated when we stayed there but we still got a couples massage that was great. My husband said it may have been one of the best massages he’s had.For our wedding we served food from the hotels restaurant, Layla. We heard positive things all around about the food, but in particular our guests loved the appetizers.The location is great because you can easily walk to the downtown area of Sonoma with lots of shops and restaurants. Theres plenty of parking around but they have valet as well.Thinking about staying at any other hotel now we find ourselves comparing it to MacArthur and it makes it so difficult. We look forward to going back for our anniversaries and especially now with the pool and spa open.

Had a great experience on my Birthday! On a spontaneous decision, we decided to make reservations. California residents get a discount, so we decided to stay in the Julia Suite. Upon arrival, valet is complimentary, and when checking in, they offer a glass of champagne.They have done a great job remodeling the rooms. Its unbelievable that the Victorian home we stayed in was built in the 1800s. Our room was great perfectly located with a large outdoor patio. I love the heated bathroom floors.To my surprise, the pool was still open, and their pool is heated.We spent some time at the bar. The bartender was great. The bartender recommended some drinks that he just created they were delicious.The following morning, I went to the spa. I got a hot stone message it was so relaxing! Prefect way to start my day.I recommended spending some time at MacArthur Place. We will be back.

I had the pleasure of being married at MacArthur in May 2023, the staff service was fantastic. There was construction on the spa at the time, we were warned before and it was very quiet and not disturbing at all. The hotel is gorgeous, the rooms were large and unique. It was pretty quiet during our stay too. The ease of purchasing their wedding package was a no brainer, we got ready in my room, and took gorgeous pictures throughout the campus and go married in the courtyard. Coordinators changed a couple of times from when we signed our contract and at times it did feel like there could have been a bit more communication. Some of the communication was emailed to me during wedding photos and I was asked to meet the coordinator the first time also during the getting ready/first look time of our wedding day. We also had a bit of a charging issue where we were overcharged, but after about a week of emails, that was settled appropriately. We had our dinner at Layla and that was just perfect. The chef did a fantastic job and the server was so kind, patient and personable. I would recommend their wedding package to anyone. Thanks MacArthur for a very memorable wedding.

Update 2024: we’re visiting the MacArthur 2-3 times a year, now for the first time after the pool renovations are finished. Sadly, they stopped serving the welcome drinks at check in and again no recognition for being a returning guest even after years (“is this your first time visiting?”). We still like this place, but while it feels like coming home to us, this feeling is not reciprocated by staff/hotel. The new pool area needs a little more love, we liked the old lush garden style, now it’s more cement and less greenery.Our second long weekend at the MacArthur Place and we are enjoying it so much again. This place is an absolute - not so hidden - gem in the wine country.What we love about MacArthur:- absolutely blissful property, everything looks beautiful and the garden is a serene place to hang out day and night (flowers, fire places, yoga lawn…)- service, so far we only met the most genuinely kind people at the MacArthur. We love how everyone wears a headshot sticker on their shirts so you can see whom you’re talking to behind the face masks- restaurant and cafe - great food but also the setting in the garden is just blissful, you should come for dinner or lunch even if you’re not staying here- pool with great service and relaxed atmosphere and great drinksWhat we’d love to see when we return:- we need rental bags or totes to bring our stuff to the pool please!- coffee in the room (wasn’t clear if it is included or not?)- a better chair management at the pool as there are not enough deck chairs for everyone and people reserve chairs for hours without showing up- post-Corona food presentation, we are so tired of eating pool food or room service out of brown paper bags… also a menu dedicated for the pool, like chips and guacamole or fruit or smoothies.Thanks for having us again, we love this place!

Stayed at the MacArthur Place Hotel for a Sonoma getaway. The hotel grounds are beautiful, though there is some construction going on for their pool renovation. The valets and front desk were friendly and welcoming. The room itself was spacious with nice amenities like snacks and coffee/tea. We enjoyed sitting by the fire pits and eating breakfast at their restaurant, Layla. Only minor issue with the room was that there were some ants, though it wasnt enough to bother us significantly. Overall, conveniently located and a good stay.

I was welcomed by sparkling wine, and an amiable lady upgraded my room. The resort was just beautiful indoors and outdoors. I love the back patio and being able to have privacy. I had dinner and drinks at the bar, which was a great experience. I highly recommend this place and can’t wait to come back for the spa since I didn’t do it on this trip.

Welcome to serenity, peaceful surroundings and implacable service. Checkout your stress and unwind. Our room was perfect, spacious with cool neutral colors that calm your soul. The rooms are like clusters of condos tucked in nicely manicured landscaping. Enjoy their spa or the pool area during the day, and at night, enjoy sitting by the fire pits. Beautiful newly designed rooms, the furnitures are all custom made (I asked because I wanted to get the same bed frame). The in room appliance (hot water boiler etc), coffee, the chocolate are all amazing!! 😍 the pool is on the smaller side but just perfect and the resultant is delicious. Highly recommend!

Found the hotel by happenstance - stopped for a lunch at Layla and fell in love with the property. We were staying at another hotel but promptly checked out and checked in at MacArthur Place instead! The property was incredibly beautiful with plenty of winding garden paths between buildings, lots of places to sit and enjoy the scenery with swings and fire pits. The room was similarly beautiful and well decorated. Everything in the hotel feels very deliberate and thoughtful, with a perfect mix of luxury and comfort. Service was exceptional. Hands down one of our favorite parts about the visit here, will definitely come back!

My husband and I had a perfect stay at MacArthur Place in October 2021. We reserved a room with an outdoor shower and it was very romantic. The grounds are immaculate and they offer multiple fire pit areas that we enjoyed with our morning coffee and before going to bed at night. Service was always top notch. I had a wonder massage at their spa and we had a delicious breakfast at their restaurant, Layla. The entire experience was 5 star. We have recommended this place to multiple friends and we’ll stay here again the next time we come to wine country. Highly recommend!

My partner and I recently stayed at MacArthur Place to celebrate my 30th birthday and it was absolutely exceptional! From the moment we stepped out of the car, the entire staff was attentive, gracious, and just overall incredible. We loved the sparkling wine upon arrival and I was very touched by the sweet birthday gift the staff left in our room.Every bit of the property was enchanting to look at, and even more so with the holiday decorations. We stayed in the Garden Shower Suite which was really lovely despite us not being able to use the outdoor shower due to the cold and rain. The size of the suite was quite substantial and I was especially in love with the bathroom which featured an enormous shower with probably the best water pressure Ive ever experienced. There were some faint signs of wear and tear (mostly on the floors), but I was very impressed with the upkeep of the room and with how clean it felt. It was also pretty fun using the newly added panels on the walls to operate all of the lights and the privacy signal!Sadly the fitness center and pool were closed during our stay (which we will definitely be back to experience once they re-open), but we did make excellent use of the fire pits (ask the front desk for some smores kits ;) ). We did order room service for breakfast and dinner - the food was good, the fries were great - and stopped by the cafe in the lobby once as well (highly recommend the Gingerbread Latte during the holiday season!).We did have one issue with our room where one of the heating/cooling vents was pointing directly at the bed where our heads were, but after texting (yes, texting!) the front desk about it they quickly sent the Director of Engineering, Ian, over to our room who fixed it in a jiffy. Thanks, Ian! Every interaction with the staff was so pleasant and I want to send a very special shout out to Sebastian and the rest of the valet team - every single one of them were incredibly helpful and friendly, and made us and our guests feel so welcomed.Needless to say, I could not have imagined a better place to celebrate my birthday and I can definitively say that we will be back, and likely so too will our friends and family :D

The grounds here immediately give the vibe of class, care and quality. There is nothing second rate here, the staff, food and amenities make me long for my next visit at MacArthur Place.

Definitely a 5 star stay. Fantastic aesthetics, with a very friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend for a luxury stay in Sonoma.Pros:- Lovely, well kept rooms. We stayed in Jasmine Cottage which was spacious and beautiful- Restaurant and bar was excellent.- Service throughout the hotel was friendly and efficient (Miranda at Layla was fantastic)We were particularly impressed by the Hotel Manager. He is ever present, focused on all the small details of the place, isn’t afraid to help out (we saw him collecting room service plates & cleaning a stain off the floor) and seems to be warmly respected by all the staff. The hotel is very well run and that is no surprise, given this type of visible leadership.Cons:- Gym is a little small.- Drinks service at pool is limited.

The complimentary valet was friendly when we arrived and directed us towards the spa.Booked two of the 50min aromatherapy messages, and it was amazing. I treated my sister to a spa day for her birthday and we both enjoyed our day. Staff was very friendly and brought complimentary champagne out to us at the pool. Very clean and the locker room was stocked with hygiene items and towels. I look forward to returning.

After spending 2 hours changing hotels to stay at MacArthur Place, I arrived to the pool and area closed for renovations. The entire reason I wanted to stay was to sit by the pool during the first really nice weekend. Was very very very disappointed, the staff basically said to come back in the summer when it would be open. They did say I could cancel, but it was late in the day and after all the time I had already spent with reservationists, I didn’t have the energy.Seems like I should have been told about the closure beforehand or been given a discount.Christy the masseuse was exceptionally good, she was the one bright spot on my stay.I’ve had good experiences at MacArthur place previously, but this stay was incredibly disappointing.

Stayed here for my fathers 60th birthday celebration and had a wonderful time. The grounds are beautiful and I love the style/ décor of the rooms. The fire pits all around the property are cozy and exactly what you look for, for a chill night in Sonoma. Jeff who greeted us at the front desk and helped book our stay was a highlight. He made sure we were comfortable and taken care of. The guys who work in the bar/restaurant are super friendly and the valet/ bellmen work hard. My massage was also fantastic. I think the gracious staff are really what made our stay memorable. Thanks for a relaxing weekend!

We recently stayed at MacArthurs. Nice hotel/resort, really good restaurant and service. The room we had, with a garden shower was nice, but we were on the ground floor and could hear the guest upstairs walking around, also the walls are quite thin, could hear the adjacent guest TV. For the price point, was just expecting a quiet stay. We will return, but will request a room on the 2nd level to avoid other guest noise. The staff are wonderful.

Everything was top-notch! Very thoughtfully designed with privacy in mind, walkways with abundant botanicals brimming with pleasant aromas around every corner. Great old world feel with every modern amenity you could need. I highly recommend getting a suite with the outdoor shower, it is well worth it. We are already planning our return trip back. My favorite hotel. Luxurious but understated rooms with decadently comfortable beds, beautiful furnishings, spacious patios. Service is impeccable, and I love how there is absolutely no tipping accepted by any staff (thats all included in the admittedly very high room rates, but you gotta splurge sometimes!). Outdoor pool is lovely, big enough to swim laps, with no significant deep end (so its great for kids). Restaurant and bar are excellent. Parking valets are quick and efficient, and there is EV charging available (although the Tesla chargers are very slow). The main downtown Sonoma plaza is a pleasant 15 minute walk. The hotel also has bikes you can check out.

This was the perfect hotel for our honeymoon. Excellent service, beautiful grounds, the room (fireplace) and the bathroom (heated floors!) were amazing. The restaurant on property was surprisingly good as well. Also, you can easily walk to town square.My only complaint and reason I knocked off a star--the spa, it was a bit outdated and the steam room was rather dirty. It was also a strange set up, after you change into your robe you have to go back into the reception room before entering the spa space. Just a little awkward.

The venue was very well maintained and clean. The restaurant and café had a variety of delicious dishes, coffee and snacks. I highly recommend this hotel!

This is one of the most cozy places in Sonoma. The cottage was really nice, heated floor in the bathroom, dual shower, balcony with a peaceful and landscape view. The restaurant is ok, but they have pit fires outside that you can seat, zip your wine and talk. The customer service is high stand. Cleanliness great! Highly recommended

EDIT - UPDATE - Spoke w/ manager and he apologized and gave us an opportunity to try the hotel again at a later date. Next time was perfect and room was large enough.When I booked this I made it clear the room was for 4 people. I wish the person who booked it would have been honest and said the room will not be comfortable for that many people. Would have saved us a lot of wasted time and we could have made alternate plans. Read the other review about the small European style accommodations. Very accurate.We stay at a lot of hotels and this is by far the most disappointing suite.What we got was a 300 sq ft “suite” that had a pullout sofa at the foot of me and my wife’s bed. No wall separating us. The twin sofa bed couldn’t even fit a 9 and 12 year old. So we had to stuff a roll in bed into an already tiny room. Ridiculous for a room that costs $1k+/night.Also no outdoor shower or bath as advertised. I have a bad back and need to soak.Also zero privacy. The room’s windows faced a popular walkway and people could see us changing and showering. For this much money, you’re better off staying at Calistoga Ranch where you can get a whole bungalow for your family with privacy.We asked for a different room but were told nothing was available so we ended up spending our 4th of July driving back home.Also, the pool is tiny and there is no room to swim or move. We were bumping into other guests.Service was off as well. When we got there they toldus they would text us when the room was ready. My wife gave her number but they never texted her. So she was waiting around for nearly an hour after the room was ready. Also they promised to have our bags delivered to the room but they weren’t there and I had to call and wait nearly 30 minutes. Only provided towels for two people which makes me think this room was really meant for two.Felt totally deceived and lied to.I wasted 3 hrs driving round trip for what was supposed to be a nice 4th of July weekend. This place ruined our weekend.I would have expected our spa services comped for the trouble we were caused. and valuable time wasted.

MacArthur Place in Sonoma County is definitely a spot that we are glad to have experienced and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to bring their furbabes along as they travel. Our dog is only two and is still growing into his chill factor. To help ease his high alertness (and be mindful of our neighbors), we called ahead and asked if they would be able to place us in a room that is further away from a lot of foot traffic. Thankfully, MacArthur Place was able to accommodate us and we were able to stay at the far West corner of the property.Aesthetically, I appreciated the neutral tones and minimalistic decor of the suite. There were several large windows in our suit that we were able to open the shades and let the natural sunlight beam through. Overall, the property provided a beautiful space for us to retreat to. We also appreciated that upon arrival, our dog was provided with a fluffy dog bed and dog bowls to use during the stay. He was not shy to put either to use!The overall property of MacArthur Place provided a great sense of retreat. Tall trees and small pockets of garden space surrounds the property and throughout the nooks of the walkway. If you would like to soak up some sun outside of their spa/pool area, there are plenty of outdoor patio seats for guests to enjoy. If you prefer to be by the pool, you can actually bring your dog in as well (they just can’t go inside the pool.). This is a nice accommodation that I don’t come across often at other hotels/resorts.Layla is a restaurant within the property that has indoor and outdoor seating. With the outdoor seating, it allowed us to bring our dog to join us for dinner. From their Summer 2022 menu, I would recommend their Braised Pork Collar as well as the Classic Cannoli for dessert. Beautiful grounds, just wish there could be a separate pool for little kids, especially since the spa is attached. Love kids, but not when youre trying to relax. A little disappointed because we couldnt do the couple package or get the whole experience. They had to do the massage in one of their own room with a private garden. My fiance and I stayed two different times at MacArthur Place. Two different experiences. The first one was wonderful. Everyone was very welcoming and showed excellent customer service. The room was very nice. The grounds were beautiful. Everything was in bloom. We ate lunch at Saddles restaurant on the property and only had a salad but it was excellent. We stayed again about 6 months later... (just last week) unfortunately our second and last stay was not so pleasant. I do have to say at check in the gentlemen working the front desk were very professional and gave us excellent customer service. We got to our room and the first thing I noticed when we opened the door to our room was the odor. It smelled like really bad Body Odor. We opened all the windows to try to allow the room to air out. The bedding was wrinkled and I wanted to check to see if the smell was coming from the bed. I noticed our pillows were laying up against the bed headboard that had several slots and each one were full of dust. The front of our pillows were against the decorative pillows that are never cleaned and used for each guest. I took a cloth and wiped the headboard and was not happy with all the dust/body dander that came off. The body odor smell did not go away so my finance went to a store to buy a bottle of Lysol to spray the room for the smell and the pillows. We checked in only 20 minutes after check in time 4:20 pm. We had a bottle of champagne left in our room to welcome us back this was very nice, however the ice was all melted and champagne was setting in a ice bucket full of water. The champagne glasses had marks on them and did not look clean. The wall painting in our room was a bit creepy and so not romantic at all. It was a large painting that had a lady dressed in an apron and bonnet and feeding geese. She looked angry. It was a bit unsettling to have in a room. We ate lunch at the restaurant on the property. Saddles. The food was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive. There was another couple eating lunch in our area as well and it looked like what was the manager kept going over to their table talking to them and bringing them food and drinks and making them feel very welcome, however she would only look at us and never once smiled or asked how we were doing. Our lunch was very good. Our waitress was also very good. We were very pleased. The next morning we ate breakfast at Saddles again and it was a different experience. Our waiter spoke a different language and I asked if I could substitute my bacon for mushrooms in my omelette. He told me it comes with bacon and did not want to make any changes. We did not have cream for our coffee on our table, my fiance asked a waitress who was cleaning tables for creamer. She stood there and looked around at other tables she was cleaning and brought us a creamer that was at another table from guests that just left. The creamer was in an open small pitcher. I was very surprised by this. This same young lady who was cleaning tables was talking to herself and very angry at having to clean tables. The food was very good. I have no complaints about the food. After breakfast we walked to the spa to look around. Other guests walked in and asked the woman working what they had to offer for different spa treatments. The woman working the counter was very rude to the lady and not helpful at all. The grounds looked very bad, lots of dried bedding. Lots of weeds.. I noticed the front of the hotel, along side the fence area looked very uninviting. I wonder why they dont weed that area and plant some pretty color? We did notice the last day we were there a grounds person weeding and laying down new bark. Bottom line...the price of the rooms is not worth what you get in return. We will not be returning guests at MacArthur Place.

The second night, the adjoining suite (which had an outdoor table) had a party of 6-8 people drinking and loudly partying past midnight. Shrieks of laughter, you know the scene. I love the lobster roll and its typically a favorite menu item during my stay. Paired with a glass of Blue Farm and it just feels right.The staff will make a point to learn who you are so that your stay feels extra special and catered to you. Garrett went out of his way to make both myself and my partner feel taken care of.The pool area is at the center and very pretty, with a nice little spa attached. The spa has been somewhat inactive as they are following COVID protocol but the staff was kind enough to walk me through the services list for when it reopens. Just a fun fact, the hotel utilizes products that are made locally in Sonoma by a female-owned company. I just find this kind of local support so progressive and brilliant.Now the rooms!! These little home away from homes are so cozy. The decor is upscale but unique and the bed is a dream. Youll get some of the best sleep of your life (which isnt common on vacation). For those of you considering the rooms with outdoor showers and tubs, DO IT!!! My partner and I sat in the outdoor tub, drank a bottle of wine, and there is truly nothing more relaxing and romantic.Ive stayed on this property twice now and it never disappoints.

I am surprised by the awful accounting and customer service of the MacArthur Place.I purchased a $250 Layla gift card for a friend that was staying at the hotel. Because MacArthur doesnt email gift cards and our friends were staying at the hotel, I asked for it to be held at the front desk. My friends went to go pick it up and the front desk didnt have it. I called the concierge three times; the first gentleman assured me he would call me back, a few days passed he did not. Shawna, who told me she personally left the card at the front desk, said she would get back to me, she did not. Then I got a hold of someone who said they needed to get a hold of the person who did the night time shift and I never heard back.Frustrated, I spoke to a manager Jeff (who handles all gift cards) who then promised me that he would mail the gift card to our friends since they had returned home. Its been two weeks and our friends still have not received the gift card.I am ashamed that our friends went to the front desk to ask for a gift card that was not there, only to have me promise it was in the mail... and for it to be nowhere to be found. This property is very outdated and very poorly run. The rooms are at least 20 years out of date. They are renovating some but they said it will be a 4 year project. Yikes!!! From the black fingerprints on the sticky bathroom doors to the beaten up headboards to the squeaky bed and floors, this place is a no go! The breakfast sadly was bad too. They could not get poached eggs right. Both times they were hard as a rock and the toast came out cold with rock hard butter. No attention to detail at this resort. Every night we would hear people in the room above us as though they were in our room. When they would climb the steps it sounded like an elephant.No privacy in this resort. The blinds on the door in our room are 2 inches open on the sides... again ..no privacy even when they are closed. Lastly, they said the noisy construction is being done during peak daytime hours when guests are likely at wineries. We would have loved to have sat outside at 6:30am to enjoy coffee however, the noise was unbearable. We cant even rate it mediocre, unfortunately. It was grossly overpriced at $600 per night. We assumed it would be nice and it is October so we accepted the rate. Not the case! We stay at hotels and resorts often and this one was VERY DISAPPOINTING. The location was decent for touring but that is the only thing it has going for it. Now we know why it was the only resort left with availability when we booked. Do yourself a favor and look for somewhere else. There are far too many nice resorts and villas to stay in the area. We certainly will not return...even after renovations!

My mother-in-law had the kiddos so that we could have some quality time. As soon as we pulled up the complimentary valet helped us get our bags and checked in for us and put our bags in our room so that we could go straight to having our very late dinner. We had the Parker House Rolls, Octopus and the Trio Drips with the Pita breads. The rolls were so soft and buttery and just melted in our mouths. The dips had such amazing flavors. For the main course I had the Salmon and my husband had the 8 oz filet. Both were delicious! After our fabulous dinner we were escorted to our room and shown how to use all the gadgets they had. The room was impeccable! The bed was comfy and there was a pull out couch, we didn’t use but it was nice to have that option. Let’s just say it was the most restful nights we’ve had since having kids, which was 5 years ago! The next morning we went back to the Layla restaurant for the best breakfast I’ve ever had! The pastries was to die for and their homemade jam made everything so much better, which I didn’t think was possible! Their avocado toast with the pickled peppers was so delicious. My husband and I had an absolutely lovely elopement and honeymoon at MacArthur Place Hotel this December. Laura and Michelle were extraordinarily helpful and answered a million questions as I quickly planned a wedding from across the country after our original wedding plans were affected by Covid. I honestly sent Laura dozens of emails and she responded graciously and helpfully to each one haha.Getting married privately in Sonoma and Zooming in our families was not our original plan by any means, but it may have ended up even more special than our pre-Covid vision.The grounds of MacArthur Place are STUNNING and the elopement package is a very good value. We loved staying at the charming Jasmine Cottage, enjoyed our complimentary spa visits, and really loved breakfast at Layla. Touches like the fireplace in our room and the heated bathroom floors truly elevated this experience. Everyone was friendly, particularly the young people who worked as valets. We also appreciated that the hotel is within such a short walking distance of the Plaza’s many restaurants and tasting rooms. We plan to visit MacArthur Place again for an anniversary trip at some point in future years! Truly a wonderful experience that I highly recommend.If I could offer one extremely MINOR area for improvement, I would mention that the heated pool feels cold during the winter. Honestly, we are not big swimmers so it was not a big deal for us, but we were surprised by how cold the “heated pool” felt. We got out after a few minutes. Dog friendly beyond expectations!My sisters dog was very well behaved and the hotel was just awesomely accommodating. They brought us a doggy bed on their outside dinning area. A real treat to have our dog with us everywhere we went in this hotel. I mean I wouldnt want to get then in trouble if hypothetical the dog even was allowed in the pool area cause in Wisconsin thats a government rule. Update to my review: The hotel has since reached out and they addressed my concerns in a prompt and professional manner.This is the hotel equivalent of the Fyre Festival. Yes, the hotel is being renovated. However, no one should actually be staying in this hotel yet. It is beyond unfinished. Like, not socket covers on the electric outlets unfinished. Beyond that, the website is selling the hotel as something it is not. The neighbors (second floor guests) have a full view in to your “outdoor showers”, which by the way are not functioning yet. I wouldn’t have minded as much if the price reflected the state of the hotel. Listen, I never have ever left a review anywhere. But I owe you the review I wish I would have had before booking this hotel.

Large rooms with all the comforts of home, and immaculately clean. I prefer the rooms in the newer, separate buildings to the main house. The grounds are beautiful, and the perfect place to take an early morning stroll before the wonderful continental breakfast (lots of fresh fruit, housemade granola, and some hot items), or unwind at the free wine tasting at the end of the day. My daughter and I were visiting Sonoma for a few days, in January of 2015, to participate in a driving course at the local racetrack. We found MacArthur Place quite by surprise. As soon as we found the office, we knew we were in for a treat. We were shown the restaurants, the pool and spa, and walked the extensive, and beautiful grounds on the way to our suite. ALL of it was lovely, and luxurious, and well maintained. We had a wonderful stay, and delicious meals in the on site restaurant. Our plan is to return to sonoma for more driving courses, and we will stay in our new favorite hotel there: MacArthur Place!

I love MacArthur Place! The main house (manor) was originally my great grandparents home, built in the late 1800s, and home to my great uncle Frank and Aunt Lillian, and later home to Leilani, their daughter, and husband Garret. I loved visiting as a kid and was thrilled to see how the developer and owner kept the character and charm of this lovely Victorian home (that I thought of as a mansion) and managed to convert the living room, parlor, den, dining room, kitchen, mud room, root room and several bedrooms into exquisite guest rooms, with the same comfort that I remembered 40 years ago. I recently stayed in the Burris Suite, the master bedroom, and loved sitting on the veranda with a view of the estate with the beautiful gardens. It is a large room with a cozy sitting area. The units built on the property mimic the Victorian architecture of the main house, and those rooms are as beautiful as those in the main home. I highly recommend MacArthur Place to anyone looking for a comfortable, serene and peaceful nights rest. Steeped in history, MacArthur Place offers plush beds, a fresh and healthy breakfast, pool and spa, exercise room (loved using it at 5am when nobody was around),cheese and wine in the library every evening before dinner, and all with a staff dedicated to making your stay pleasant and memorable.
