Sammy is a great coach. He knows how to effectively teach the mechanics of tennis and connect with the athlete. My son enjoys his sessions with Coach Sammy and gains a lot of knowledge from him! Hes also is highly attuned to the mental aspect of tennis!

Im thrilled to share my thoughts on the Life Long Tennis Academy.As a mom of a 5th grader in Berkeley, weve tried several places for tennis lessons, but meeting Sammy was a game-changer. Not only has my son improved his tennis skills, but Sammy has also helped him gain mental stability and confidence on the court. Its clear how crucial a good coach is, and were really happy to have found one in Berkeley. Life long tennis was a great experience for my son! My son was very skeptical and not really at all interested in tennis. But Sammy made it fun for him and his buddy, and they got good enough over the course of a week to rally some and enjoy it. Thanks Sammy!

Sammy is an excellent coach. He has a great eye for assessing technique and distilling down what needs to be done to improve with simple, concrete cues that make a big difference and are easy to remember. I was stunned in my first lesson with Sammy at how much better of a ball I could hit implementing the adjustments he suggested. He’s a very nice person, has great energy and patience and clearly loves the game. I’m excited to continue working with Sammy to keep improving and be more competitive!

Both my kids have been taking lessons with Sammy for about a year. They have also done his summer camp, which is fantastic. My kids absolutely love him and tell us they learn so much from him. In addition to helping them develop their tennis skills, Sammy always makes an effort to get to know them personally, and to connect with them in different ways. It’s just such a wonderful characteristic of any teacher/mentor. He’s also always kind and very responsive when I reach out to him about rescheduling, logistics, etc.

Sammy is not only the best tennis coach but the best sports coach I have ever had. He knows tennis in minute detail and can give feedback on every aspect of your game. Sammy is fantastic! Just what I hoped for, and needed.I decided a few months ago to get back on the tennis court. I’d played often for decades, starting in high school, but stopped about ten years ago. I was a 3.5 with flashes of 4 back then. A few months ago, well let’s not give my skill a number.Sammy has helped me immensely in just a few months. I’m thrilled and super happy I found Sammy. Im still hitting a one-handed back hand, but oh boy Im learning the new style forehand with spin - fun, love that drop and yikes the bounce. Not reliable yet, but I’m on the path.Sammy always has helpful and easy to understand suggestions. And he’s upbeat and patient. As I’m now 70, both traits are important.If you’re considering scheduling a session, don’t hesitate.

Sammy is an amazing tennis coach and I could not recommend him more highly! I started taking lessons with him as a complete beginner - he is able to teach at all ages and skill levels - and after only a few weeks of lessons I saw amazing improvement in my ability to play. Sammy strikes a great balance between teaching you proper form and techniques while also giving you time to play and test them out. In addition to being a great teacher, he is very supportive and just fun to be with on the court!

He is very detailed oriented which really helps me understand and learn. Sammy is excellent at teaching all ages. Sammy is a fantastic coach. His love of tennis is contagious. He always bring high energy to the court. He is wonderful at explaining and breaking down technique but is also great at talking through strategies to improve your game when playing singles or doubles. I have improved so much thanks to his coaching and am becoming a much more thoughtful and strategic player. He always asks what you want to work on but also always has a plan on how to make lesson or practice very productive. He is also great with kids.

I’m so grateful to have discovered Sammy 5 months ago! He’s a great teacher, very patient and interested in helping you improve. He’s also extremely generous with his time and other resources. The bonus is that unlike many other tennis coaches, booking lessons with Sammy is SO easy, no need for the endless texting or emailing back and forth. I always look forward to my lessons with Sammy!

Cant recommend highly enough. Sammy is an awesome person whos also super knowledgeable about tennis. Hes very responsive and easy to book with. I came with minimal experience, and he has helped me improve tremendously with my mechanics and technique. He knows how to deal with different levels of playing experience (my partner played club in middle school and high school) and is super patient when explaining concepts & running drills. I feel comfortable asking him all types of questions, and he makes sure that I understand as well. If youre debating whether or not to book a session, I say do it!

My teenage daughter has been taking lessons with Sammy for about two years : he is fantastic. Sammy spends an incredible amount of time strengthening her technical skills whilst observing and reading her areas of weakness and strength. He focuses on the whole game, bringing together the mental and technical components, honing the latter through rigorous practice while ensuring that temperament, focus, mental endurance are cultivated as well.Sammy is an awesome coach : he is professional, has a great personality, and has demonstrably improved her game.His lessons are perfectly balanced so that my daughter feels great after a lesson, while her skills are greatly improved. If you are looking for a very good coach for yourself or your child, hes the one. My daughter is pretty advanced yet he continues to make her more consistent and more technically precise.

Sammy is a fantastic coach! I hadnt played tennis since high school nearly 20 years ago, and already hes got me back on my game! Hes been great at helping me remember the basics while also teaching me how to capitalize on my strengths so I can play better than I ever did. Hes thoughtful, honest, and encouraging. Plus, he is teaching me how to play with technical skill as well as with mental resilience, since this game is so psychological in many ways. Sammy is a great coach for all ages.

I am a 4.0 player who started playing tennis in my 40s. Ive been taking lessons with Sammy for several months now and I have seen a marked improvement in my game. Sammy is very solid when instructing technique, strokes and the physical aspect of the game but really levels up the instruction when infusing strategy and tactics. Hes brings great energy to the courts and is fun to work with. Highly recommend him.

My family is so thrilled to have found a tennis coach like Sammy for our 13 year old son. Our son has been playing tennis for sometime now but due to the pandemic, there was a long break in play. The time thus far with Sammy has not only helped his gameand overall fitness but also his attitude. He is now interested in returning to competitive play and has concrete goals when it comes to tennis. Sammy is much more than a tennis coach. He is truly vested in his students and committed to their well being. We hope to soon have our younger child begin private lessons with Sammy as well. Since I started working with Sammy a couple of years ago, I’ve seen improvements across my game. I’m much more comfortable and confident playing singles and doubles and can give most 4.0 players a run for their money. I’m not only hitting better shots, I’m also constructing points now and developing a strategy for each match.Sammy’s an excellent instructor and his advice is spot on. He’s patient, explains concepts and techniques clearly, asks great questions about my goals and intent, and (most importantly) he listens. I’ve seen him coach young kids and older players with equal success. He sets up lessons and sticks with the schedule. He’s always on time. He’ll ask what you want to work on and always has some things in mind already.One of the best attributes of Sammy’s lessons is that he gives you something new to work on that’s not only exactly what you need to work on, but it’s within your reach. Sammy has been my coach for a little over a year. He was very professional from the start. He worked with me to establish tennis goals early on, and we revisit them every few months to see how I am tracking against them and whether it is time to update them. Sammy always comes prepared to our weekly lessons with a lesson plan tailored for me and my specific areas of development. He has a positive attitude and a great work ethic.Sammy has also gone above and beyond. He created a USTA womens 2.5 team to help me achieve one of my goals. Through this team, he developed a community of women tennis players who are passionate about the sport and determined in improving. Sammy is a great coach. As someone new to the sport, I found him to be very patient and good in breaking down the techniques to help form a good swing.He has good instructional communication, providing self awareness notes to make the right adjustments. After each lesson, he asks what are your takeaways? I appreciate this as this forces me to think about what I should focus and practice on.Sammy is such a good listener and supporter. He matches my excitement when I come back for a lesson with something Ive learned or what Ive been practicing. He would hear out how I would approach what Ive learned and help break down the good habits. Sammy also has a way to tell you no or dont do that by providing positive feedback.

I highly recommend Sammy! He has taught me so much in a short amount of time. My technique and strategy has really improved the last few months. He makes everything easy to understand and is extremely patient. His online booking system is also very convenient, so no back and forth. Ive done privates and clinics with him and they are both great and recommend doing both if you are able.

I am 3.5-4.0 womens player. I have been taking tennis lessons since I was about 6-7 but (mostly) stopped playing for the last 10 years because my relationship with the game had become very focused on winning, and I would consistently lose to players who had a much weaker game than me.I have been taking weekly lessons with Sammy since December 2020 and I am so grateful because he has made the sport fun and interesting, and by extension, helped me to improve my overall game. Sammys coaching has improved my form and consistency and also, my ability to incorporate and think about game strategy while rallying. I have felt my physical and mental confidence improve a lot this last year because of my time with him on the court.Sammy is very knowledgeable about tennis and committed to your growth. Sammy is an incredible tennis coach! After a 20 year hiatus, I found myself wanting to get back into tennis. I saw Sammy teaching a student early one morning at San Pablo Park and asked him if he could give me lessons as well. It’s been ~3 months, and not only has he completely improved my skill set but he’s also introduced me to an entire tennis community of individuals who enjoy tennis as a hobby. He can work with you if you want to win tournaments or if you just want to keep up with your friends on the court. I love my weekly lessons, weekly tennis team practice, and my new tennis friends. Though Ive seen Sammy coaching private lessons and working with different age groups, my relationship with Sammy started less than 2 years ago when we first played tennis at San Pablo Park. We have been playing tennis ever since and he has seamlessly integrated himself into the East Bay tennis community. Sammy was my team mate on the USTA 18 & over 4.5 Team and has used his extensive tennis knowledge to better improve the players on the team. Aside from the amazing tennis that weve shared on the team, he is also at the forefront of organizing team practices and matches. I can rely on Sammy to communicate effectively to all the other players on the team, as he exhibits positive energy. Through my experience of working and playing tennis with Sammy Ive willingly referred numerous players to Sammy because I know how great of a coach and player he is. Sammy is the best. He is perceptive at your mechanics, and is able to break down your strokes and teach you how to improve them. He is patient and thoughtful. I had the hardest problem with top spin and he hand dropped the balls for periods of my lessons until I got the stroke down enough so the he could hit them to me for me to practice.He is good with all ages. I am in my 70s and have recently come back to tennis. My serve now is faster and more consistent than it has ever been. He is modernizing my game like with the top spin. He is thoughtful, patient, and warm hearted. And he is very devoted to helping each person improve their game.

I met Coach Sammy earlier this year when he was one of the coaches for my daughters after school program through the Berkeley National Tennis Junior program (run by Cheri King). I noticed that kids in his class were super engaged and motivated, their strokes improving with each class. He then helped set up USTA team for the women who were playing at and around San Pablo Park. He coached us every week and accompanied us to all our USTA matches with more experienced teams, he built up our confidence with his gentle instruction and encouragement. We started with 6 women and our team has been growing steadily as they observe his weekly tennis sessions with us. More recently, my 8yo daughter decided that she wanted to get more competitive in the sport, so we added a once-weekly private lesson with Sammy for her. He is very systematic with his instruction, takes videos of their lessons for us to review and comes up with plans to focus on for improvement and we use junior circuit tournaments to help gauge next steps, etc...our family adores and appreciates Coach Sammy!
