I think the fact that we’ve had so much water lately absolutely influences my opinion on this review. It’s Clearwater around the edges with absolutely beautiful views to the west from the east side or to the east from the west side. There’s not many places to go down to the shore right now because the water level is higher than usual, but it’s absolutely breathtaking.

Beautiful scenic point close to Los Gatos. Nice trails leading up to the mountains as well as the water body. Getting here is is easy from the highway and has ample parking on all trailheads.

It’s a relatively large lake which didn’t had lot of water before 2023 Spring. Due to rain storms and spring monsoon seasons of 2023, the lake filled up pretty good. It’s a nice place to relax and enjoy a nice swim in this summer. It’s tucked away from the CA-17 road but it’s easily accessible. I definitely recommend it for a little siesta during weekend specially in the evenings. 😊👍🏻

Luckily, the reservoir was very full due to the cluster of massive rainfall we had this year. And the water was lovely. We even made a special friend; named her foie gras. She was totally comfortable being close to us and even swam around with us. There were a decent amount of cyclists so be careful driving around all the turns. Lots of turn outs for parking. Very private which was nice.P.S. Don’t forget to bring the bug spray!

Im quite familiar with this area. I used to just drive past here when I was a student going to Santa Cruz. Now, I come here just to go hiking.2023 rain this year was excellent!We got a full house now.The water was nearly receding so low, the water across the bridge or other side was empty. Now its full and beautiful.Lots of hiking and biking happening in the wknds so you are never alone.Come here with the families, your dog, or just you!

Great place for strolling and relaxing. The park is huge, therere a big lake, green grass plot. Almost all people wear masks. That park will be great for everyone. You could walk around the lake and breeze a fresh air.

Nice trail for hiking. Recommend going clockwise. If youre up to the challenge go counter cw. Shaded trail about 60%. Great view once you arrive at the reservoir. Still great view at the top though.

Out visiting in Aug 2021 to see if we want to fish here. Parking is $6, but you might get lucky and find street parking. The Reservoir seems clean and has educational opportunities about why it exists.

A bit pricey on parking if you are kayaking(per kayak it was about$4-6per kayak) plus parking fee. There is a required inspection for kayaks. Saw lots of deer, and geese. Very pretty area. We were told by locals that the water level was VERY high compared to normal.

A very nice reservoir that you can only see from the freeway. There is a winding road along the entire reservoir, so even if you are not staying, you can just enjoy the drive in nature there. The reservoir is huge, with a lot to see depending on which spot you choose. First spot we encountered was decent size parking with a paved trail that leads to a picnic area, there is no boating or beach access area. Just a nice picnic area atop a cliff with nice views though. There was a BBQ grill there too. There were also another spot for boating only. With several boats there, not sure if you can rent one or not. Other spot that we stayed in for few hours. It is next to the dam. The parking there is for about 6 or 10 dollars. There was an automated machine dispensing ticket for anything you would do there, from parking to boating fee, etc. There was also a restrooms 🚽, however it was a portable ones not a building. But it was clean though. There was also a faucet, again no running water and operated by peddling. That spot has an attendant. Also, there you will find a ramp for boating. A nice picturistic views. You can see the pictures we posted. A bit hot with no shades though. But the views is even better around dawn time. If you are into hiking, we found a couple of trails that starts from the parking lot. One is a bit steep that goes up the mountain facing the parking lot. Another is good for hiking and biking to the right of the dam if you are walking towards the dam. You can catch nice pictures there too. We saw some enjoying stand up paddle boarding. Also, we have seen dogs on trails, if course with a leach. Overall, our experience there was please to, but hot 🔥. You might want to bring an umbrella ☔ if you are sensitive to heat. The best thing that it is not too crowded. So you can enjoy nature escape there.

My first time biking in this trail, it was 13 miles out&back and about 600ft of elevation gain.My ride started from Los Gatos Creek Trail to Vasona County Park, continues to Lexington Reservoir, and back to the parking.It was a fun ride, beautiful views, short time, and good exercise.I would love to do it again.

If you are up for a very challenging hike there are 2 trailheads on the road that goes around the backside of the lake, I tried to get to the top but almost made it and had to turn around, I’m definitely going to try to get to the top again one day!

Easy to moderate hiking trails. The steepest hill is at the beginning of the trails. Pretty shaded throughout until you make your way to the tops of the hills. You can hear cars rushing close by from highway 17, but it is a great urban hiking area nonetheless.

Scenic. Very near to San Jose. Nice for quick getaways. You can enjoy to fish, kayak, or generally hike. Wished place had better picnic spots. Path to the picnic spots from parking is bit scary, there are no paved path but path created by folks walking too often and is kind of slippery.

Very beautiful view to see the reservoir and some rowing boats in the river. A natural habitat for ducks! We even saw a golden retriever swimming in the river catching his ball:-)

Pray for rain... This photo was taken on the boat launch ramp, where I would normally be about 20 underwater. This picture should not be possible without a boat, and look at how much further down the lake level is from the picture... Please conserve water whenever possible.

The reseviour is somewhat dry and we saw no sign of fish. There is a boat station and fishing accourding to CA rules is allowed. The place is beautiful and the deers we have seen were amazing!

Very nice place to enjoy the beautiful view of Lexington Reservoir. This is a destination for boating, hiking and biking. There are several trails close by which are very nice for hiking and mountain biking. You can also view entire silicon valley and hwy 17.

This H2O prison is really good for doing Watersport that you are really bad at because there are very few people around to see you biff it off of your paddle board and fall in.Go earlier in the spring/summer when the water level is high unless you like to step through decaying brown lake matter.

Wonderful trail Los Gatos creek trail for running especially in the morning.. with a beautiful view of the Lexington reservoir. You have options to kayak in the reservoir, but need to bring it on ur own ( no rental). The trail continues uphill to St Josephs hill which has good panoramic views from the top.

Close to the city but feels tucked away. A few biking and hiking trails. An easier one that leads to Los Gatos and another one that climbs to the top of the hills. The latter is about 3.5 miles loop and offers nice views of the bay

I went to the rowing club, fantastic amount of equipment and awesome people to share their knowledge. The reservoir is peaceful, Bald Eagles, dear and other animals. Also, there is fishing allowed.

Learned to water ski on Lexington Reservoir when they used to allow boats back in the 80s. Excellent place to hike, stand up paddle, kayak, float tube. Difficult spot to fish but when its good its awesome.

Peaceful and scenic. Nice drive around the lake. If you come into the lake via off Hwy 17 heading North, drive around lake and stop here and there while being mindful. About halfway around, is a smallish parking lot where you can park for free and have a picnic just off the lot towards the lake. While driving around, when you get towards the end, go right over the bridge, drive a smidgen, then right again and come round till the rise brings you back up to the side of Hwy 17. Follow through to you get back on Hwy 17.

This is a reservoir. There are some hiking trails but a lot of it is just an embankment to the water. Peaceful place if thats what you are looking for.Boating is also available if you have a boat. There is inspection and launch fee.

This is one of my favorite hikes. We usually like to start at Los Gatos High School, though this group met up at the library and walked city streets to get there. There was a moderate amount of elevation with beautiful views. Some footing was a little tricky. Make sure to walk down the short path at the reservoir for a nice rest/picnic area.

We went here for a hike. This was our first time. The paths were well used and the views lovely at different vistas. Very tranquil except for the maskless hikers, a lot in groups of three or more. Made the hike a bit stressful trying to social distance. Our dog loved it. So nany new smells, sights and sounds. We ended the hike at the reservoir, which was cool and beautiful. A gaggle of geese gliding on the water made it idyllic.

I love trail runs in Almaden. And I especially enjoy the views of the Lexington Reservoir. Beautiful place. Last time I was there I saw two deers drinking water - the mother and her baby.There is a nice trail nearby. Not too difficult and also not very isolated - you will feel safe with a decent amount of people walking and running there.

The trail has nice views of the Lexington reservoir and the Santa Clara Valley. Hanging out and wandering around the reservoir is a nice way to spend an afternoon, but you have to watch out for quicksand... thats not a joke... lost some good flip flops 😔

Very nice afternoon hike with a friend and three kids ages 6, 9, and 11. Great views. Steep at first, then not a bad trail. Watch out for mountain bikers sharing the trail. Most who passed were polite and slowed down. Make sure your kids know to stop and wait by the side for bikers to pass.

Tough mountain bike trails for the more advanced. Not too much difficulty involved just massive mountain to climb. Jones trail seems the easiest but that too is a challenge. Great people that are very polite and willing to share the trail, so please do the same. Overall very fun and challenging experience

Beautiful place unfortunately the water is very low because of the drought. even if you are not swim here it looks nice if the water level is high.the north portion around the dam is very crowded. If you are looking for a less crowded place go towards the south and south-eastern areas. lots of trails around the lake and up the hills. Great for hiking, biking and running.

Lime Kiln Trail near the northeastern end of the reservoir was an unexpected find. Nice condition, good blend of sun abd shade, and very manageable hills. The reservoir looks lovely with all the water right now. Great for kayaks.

So close to home Santa Clara haha. You can go around the picturesque lake. Good green sights. Wild life can be often seen. Lake is not shallow. I am told has good bass. Day night no restrictions. I am fond of it. In fact I love it out there. Numerous picnic spots well laid out tables. Garbage no problem. Plenty of parking throughout. You cant ask for more.

Grat place to relax, take a hike, or simply get on a boat and paddle away. The place has nice views and is also a great resting spot for the travelers who might be coming from Santa Cruz. Only thing is, I wish people would stop and actually read the signs. Girlfriend and I were trying to take a walk around, but couldnt because there were people smoking, when it clearly shows you cant smoke, or unless I misread the sign. That is the only downside

Good place to go paddling. Calm water 8AM, with wind typically picking up by 9:30-10:00 and getting choppy. Water levels this year are great. Typically can observe some birds. Plenty of shores to stop, including a picnic area.

Several good hiking trails are the best reason to visit Lexington Reservoir. The Limekiln and Priest Rock trails in particular make for several good routes amounting to anywhere from 4 to about 14-mile loops or round-trips. Parking on Alma Bridge road is usually adequate, but beware DO NOT leave anything visible in your car. Some pack of d-bags has been breaking windows to steal things from cars, probably mostly late-morning and early-afternoon when there is little traffic. Afternoons after about 4pm the traffic picks up so less likely to be safe targets for these losers.

Theres few other experiences locally that top standing on the road over the spillway watching the water cascade down, then walking over to the face fo the dam and simply watching the water, water fowl and if your lucky and early enough, watching the crew practice racing across the lake. Picturesque, tranquil, rejuvenating. Highly recommend.

This trail is very popular with women, and it is pretty busy every day. I see very few men using this trail. I see lots of dogs too. You can do numerous different walking loops to fit your fitness level. There are historic ruins and exhibits at one point of the trail. Some places have park benches and picnic tables. At one trail junction there is a porta potty and trail map display. You can bike this trail if you are fit (hills). Lots of options.

If you get stuck in a traffic jam, this is a great way to wait for the traffic to clear up. Great views of the surrounding area. Just remember to take water, hat and sunscreen - there isnt a lot of cover nor water on the trail.

Great fews with many trails to explore. Non-powered watercraft allowed on the reservoir most of the year, after an inspection (and fees) for non-native invasive mussels. You have to pay a day use fee if you park in the designated parking lots (one at the launch ramp, one down Alma Bridge near Soda Springs Rd), but if you park in a turn-out or on the side of the road, no fee!

A place to see deer (at dusk), birds of prey and quail. Fine views over the water to the mountains. Walk by the shore to collect driftwood or skip stones. Plenty of parking near the boat slip area or on the opposite side at the trail entrance.

The view of the reservoir is absolutely stunning from all around, especially so from the nearby Montevina road.Its also great for biking around, as the big trees on its South-East side and the water in the reservoir keep the temperature cool during the summer time and its just another world when you ride along.

Mix of paved (paid) and unpaved parking. The St. Josephs Hill trail is a great 90 minute loop. The first 10 minutes are the hardest uphill haul on the way to the great view at the top.

My story ... my husband and I walked along a huge water pipe. under my feet there were sharp small boulders that dug into the sole of my sneakers, which made my walking uncomfortable. I became angry with my husband that he had chosen the wrong path for a walk. I walked in silence, realizing that it would be so painful to go for a long time, but to my happiness the road ended and a space opened in front of us where the main person was His Majesty, a reservoir around which trees were solemnly surrounded. we approached the lake to hear the splash of water and to merge spiritually with the lake and silence. we lay down for a while on the carpet and moved on. thank you lake for peace of mind.

Great for a medium to tough run. If you want.to stop at medium turn back at the ramp up. After that it gets to the tough category... You can then also cross and get even more difficult hill. Almost 1/4 in length so not for the faint of heart.

The Lexington Reservoir County Park is right next to highway seventeen where it meets Bear Creek road. There used to be two small communities underneath the reservoir. Its a beautiful area and has hiking and other recreational activities there. Los Gatos is nearby with Santa Cruz over the hill on highway 17.

If you are coming from San Jose, exit Black Mountain Road, turn right at the stop sign.
