Tbh lestats is a hit or miss. It has 2 bathrooms and most of the time theyre functioning but in more than a handful of occasions only one of them works bc people mistreat the restrooms and then they have to close them down for maintenance. And theyre not open on holidays 😒 their hours are funky and do not match google maps 🙄 😑 😒 for the most part they will be open just dont expect to use their restrooms at any hour including 6am. They dont have to offer restrooms all the time at all hours as they generously do but Im pointing out you cant reliably count on using their restrooms anytime you show up even if theyre 24 hours. Theyve made more of an effort to clean them so I think thats why they closed them. The writing on the walls is gone.

It was so hot in there! I think the heat was on and it was 70°outside! The chicken sandwich I bought was not good. I asked the man at the counter if it was good and he said that question is subjective. I asked if he had ever had it and he said it was popular. Why dont you know if the food is good or not? You work here. I think he was only at the counter because the woman working there was on a break. He didnt care if he provided good customer service or not. The woman was lovely though. She was friendly and provided answers with a smile.

Lestat’s still is the spot to be able to study and do work when you need to sit down and force yourself to focus. Staff could be a little more informative with patrons about the parking situation. Customers used to be able to park behind the Cal Coast during the night while the parking was empty; now the stupid idiots from the security company are harassing customers that leave their cars that if left more than once, their car will be towed. Management should have notified customers about this change and while I do understand that this parking is owned by the bank, they should at least allow the next door customers to use it when it is not used. So ridiculous. Sad to say that I will really limit my outings to this place because parking in the streets is so hard and sometimes, unsafe to do and find

I usually dont write reviews but damn. I got a large drip coffee which is self served, and as Im pouring the coffee, it looks so watery. So I try the next dispenser over and same thing! Both their Bold Coffees were so watery I feel like Im not getting what I paid for, not even close! I also got a blueberry muffin which was totally fine being it was wrapped in a plastic bag.The Cafe/Customer area just doesnt appear have been cleaned in so long. Sucks because it has so much potential. 😕

I stopped by this place for a quick bite. It was late in afternoon and the place was randomly filled with scattered people working on their laptops or chatting. It’s a full laid back and casual place. I usually stop drinking coffee after lunch hour, so couldn’t drink that. I had a frittata and that was pretty good. However, I felt 5$ is a little pricy for the piece that I had. However I will return to this place for my morning coffee soon.

This is a great local place... A serious alternative to Starbucks for sure. Its just down the street from my office and I visit a few times a month. I really appreciate the friendly service, and the high quality of the coffee and food. They have great sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, and I almost always order a medium cafe mocha. The decor is artsy and comfortable. They also display the work of local artist in the walls. They offer free Wi-Fi and because its a large place, you dont feel uncomfortable if you want to stay for a while and get some work done. Check them out next time you are in University Heights.

I absolutely love Lestats! This is the best location - parking is easy and the inside has air conditioning. Great place to grab a coffee and pastry and spend hours reading or studying. Prices are very competitive with other coffee places in San Diego, but the coffee here is way better. So much to try on the menu, and they have really good quiche if you get hungry.

I come here constantly to write. Love the environment, friendly staff, the caffeine and general vibes. It’s a spacious location but often gets packed, so expect to sit on the couch or a solo chair without a table during busy times.

This place is great. With only one exception the staff is amazing. Super chill and friendly. Theyll chat a storm up with you if you want or leave you be if you prefer. They dont judge anybody and make you feel welcome no matter what walk of life brought you in. The fact that they are 24hours obviously sets them apart too. More businesses, big and small could learn from their shining example.

Lestat’s is everything you could want in a local coffee shop: a large selection of drinks, a robust and tasty food menu, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, open very early and very late, and probably boasts the most electric outlets I’ve ever noticed in a coffee shop. Simple yet it shows they’re thinking about the customer. Highly recommend stopping in!

Great coffee. Good location. The city was working on the street and they didnt have water but they kept things going until they did. They kept their patience and I heard the manager encourage the baristas with a job well done when the water came back on. And the coffee was awesome as well.

I know its not this locations fault, but I prefer the one in Hillcrest. It has a more vibrant & social atmosphere, as well as more room. Also, I know Lestats is known for being pricey, but $17 seems really steep for such a small pizza with so few toppings. There was also a lot of ice in the drink; youd think with the amount they charged for food & drinks, theyd be fair with their portions. Oh well.

This place could be so much more. Its huge, with lots of seating and electrical outlets. Thats the plus. But I dont think its gets cleaned very well, especially that weird snakeskin-looking couch in the corner thats been there since the Clinton administration. Yikes. But, its one of the last places where you can actually get a table and hang out for a long time, have an electrical outlet, etc.

After an early a.m airport run and in dire need of coffee, this place was near Balnoa Park and open early so thats how I ended up here. Totally unique decor with gorgeous antique furnishings. The coffee /espresso was delicious and very hot, just enough to keep my Peppermint Patty Mocha the perfect temperature. The frittata that accompanied my drink was satisfying and filling. Helpful friendly service make Lestats a place I will definitely return to.

I have been to other Lestat’s in San Diego and loved it. This was my first time coming to lestats on park since I just moved to this area, but I was unfortunately disappointed with the rude attitude given to us by the worker. My partner and I ordered 2 of the same coffees and 3 breakfast sandwiches. After we were done ordering, the worker said “I’m the only one on right now so if you want me to make 3 sandwiches it might be a little while.” Sure, no problem. It’s Wednesday morning at 815am, we’re in no rush. But the attitude was uncalled for. A minute after we ordered, we realized we forgot to ask for our coffees iced. We promptly went up to the counter to notify the same worker that we would like them iced, and we were met with a massive eye roll followed by him shaking his head and staring up at the ceiling as if we just asked him for a completely different drink altogether. From the time we ordered, to when we received our completed sandwiches, there was only one other customer that needed to be helped. Another woman came out from the back to help that customer. I understand he may have been frustrated that he was the only one working that day, but I do not believe our order was unreasonable and it was extremely rude for him to give us such an attitude. Immediately regretted tipping him $14. Disappointed.

Loved this place! I prefer to support small biz. After my experience today, I will not be returning. The homeless have taken over their bathrooms, and they smell like death. Today I came in and a guy with his obese blond girlfriend used it for 23 minutes to wash up and it smelled horrendous! You could smell his B.O a mile away. Is hygiene no longer accepted? The worst part is, that he was too disrespectful to flush the dang toilet.- place never seems clean- Couches have been there since the 1930s- Dogs in/out all day with hair flying all over - makes eating unenjoyable- Homeless use the bathroom at their leisure- Staff takes forever to help you since they are busy elsewhere... 7 minutes later to get drip coffee... guess Starbucks likes my $- Staff hovers you while are checking out to ensure they get a tip for handing you a cup - I would never orbit people like this. The respectful thing is to simply walk away or turn around.- HC Library offers better, free service with cleaner bathrooms and oddly less homeless issues-AC only works in the back room-The Hillcrest location has the worst staff (another reason to NOT hire your friends). The GM was arguing with me about serving me cold coffee BC he was too lazy to make a new pot. At least they solved the homeless issue with coded bathroom locks... not hard, eh?

For me, The fact that it never closes makes it a top contender for go to coffee spots. I mainly use coffee shop installations for work and not the enjoyment of sophisticated coffeedrinks. Its often busy but i usually always find a seat with close proximity to an outlet. Wifi is usually decent enough to work uninterruptedly throughout my entire visit and i would rate the coffee with three stars, but then again i rate all drinks with three stars.

Idk guys, lets be honest about Lestats locations: theyre filthy. Theyre super gross. The floors are disgusting, the windowsills, corners, and crevices are a catacomb for dead bugs, spilled beverages, hair... I can only imagine the kitchen. Where I am sitting currently smells like vomit. Something has obviously been somewhere around me for too long. These places need a thorough cleaning. I know we give them a pass because its a good place to hang out, but its really not okay.

One of my go-to spots for homework. Coffee is good, space is large, and there is a wide variety of seating (tables, couches, chairs), with multiple rooms to sit in. Outlets for charging are everywhere and the WiFi is strong. A really nice community feel, too.

Good food and drinks, but the decor and chairs/tables are very outdated. It also smells a bit off inside. Plenty of people working there (almost every table taken) so clearly most people don’t mind, but I won’t do back except for a quick bite to eat or take out. I’d suggest the owners do a good cleaning and dusting (many cob webs in the corners and a layer of dust on the curtains) and refurbish the upholstered chairs.

Lots of choices and a good environment to drink your coffee and work on your laptop.As far as the sandwiches available (didnt try the salads or other offerings), try somewhere else.After the parade, my friends and I stopped by for a late lunch on the way home. One friend ordered a Cubano, another ordered Rubén, I ordered the brisket sandwich, each costing $15+. The sandwiches arrived shortly due to only one employee being on duty. For the price, they were very stingy with the meager portion of meat. The Ruben had 3 small slices of meat, the cubano had a couple of (what looked like) black forest ham sandwich slices and a couple of small pieces (not even a slice) of roast pork. The brisket had 3 thin slices of meat. The sandwiches were OK (except the cubano which didnt look or taste like a real Cuban sandwich).But, they looked like an afterthought, not worth the price.So, for coffee, back to Starbucks and for a good sandwich, a nice sandwich shop or restaurant. Good place for students to do homework but not for real food.

It really needs an update and a good spring cleaning.Just visited this place for a second time during the day though. Omg!!! This place is disgusting! I have been coming to this Lestats for years and service has always been hit or miss. Today was a complete miss, with the exception of the woman in the kitchen who handed me my croissant she was amazing in that 5 second interaction compared to the young girl who took my order this morning. The second star is for her. She did not even acknowledge me and just stared at me with annoyance, then finally asked me what I want to order. The place was not even busy enough to warrant that attitude. The Dulce Yerba Mate Latte was not even made right, she just dumped the tea bag into the milk and water. I ended up taking a sip and just throwing it in the trash right by the kitchen, Ive had it served this way before and it doesnt mix even if you let it sit, I didnt feel like I could even ask her to remake it. A previous tender had explained that the bag is supposed to steep in the water first and then it gets mixed with everything. I want to support local business since this is so close to me and on route to work, but with this kind of service, Id rather make it myself or make time to commute elsewhere with better drinks and customer service. I dont expect a red carpet experience, but even basic customer service ethic would have made up for the terrible drink.

I love the seating and the fact that theyre open so late, but the guy that closes always sighs if you are there during the last few hours before closing. It doesnt particularly bug me, but it does make me feel like a burden- even to order a drink. At one point, I had been studying there for a couple hours and went to order another drink for to-go. When I ordered, the same guy said You do know we are closing in...*looks at clock* 35 minutes right? I told him that I was aware of this, and was ordering the drink to-go. The interaction was really strange, as there were still plenty of people there, and 35 min is a decent amount of time to finish a drink. Its not like I was trying to order a food item or some weird, complicated drink either that would dirty a lot of dished. This kind of interaction isnt a one off one either. Him and a few of the other male employees have been the same way- frequent signing and generally seem put out by having to interact with you. Ive worked in customer service for years, so I get work can be exhausting. However, I always try to not make guests feel uncomfortable.

I arranged with a friend to meet there. I went in to order a coffee and wait for my friend inside the shop but the atmosphere seemed a bit old and very dark. It is not a place where I would like to enjoy friends and a chat. I ended up going to the cafe on the other block and threw the coffee in the trash as it was extremely strong. My husband and I were super excited to try this place. We ordered a Reuben and a Cuban. They tasted absolutely terrible and we ended up throwing them away and going somewhere else. We also waited forever on our order even though we were the only customers who we saw purchase food. It shouldn’t take 30+ minutes to throw two sandwiches together. The cafe has nice style and décor, but sitting in here is just really unpleasant. Maybe the AC is broken but it is way too warm. Even though none of the windows face the sun, the reflection of the sunlight from the nearby buildings back into the cafe is horrible. There are very few places to sit where its not blinding. Also, the back room is too quite and acoustic. You cant move your chair without assaulting everyone back there with loud scraping noises.Do yourself a favor and just go to one of the other ones.

Great place, husband goes there a lot, but first time he brought us home the dessert he’d been eyeing, super disappointed in one of them. The lemon bars are obviously baked in a metal pan because they tasted disgustingly like metal so they were inedible. Wonderful place overall, but please use glass pans instead so we can buy your delicious desserts again!

I love this cozy little coffee shop, with an extra large seating area, this place even has a music venue right next door, the reason I like this coffee shop so much is because it is totally run with a customer in mind. My second time here. First experience was great. The concept of this place is cool. Lestat from Interview With a Vampire.Ordered Spice chai latte and caramel latte. Chai was very watery and off. Went to the big guy (who didn’t make my drinks) and told him my chai tasted off. He switched it but with a grin. It was much better. My date said her Caramel late wasn’t great. I tasted it and it was chalky and bitter. I went back to the big guy and told him. He sighed and said “alright, this is the second drink you’re asking me to change. I’m going to change it for you but this is the last time ok?”My response, “I spent $15 for two coffee’s and both sucked. I told you about the first one and you changed it and it was good. I tell you about the second one and you tell me this is the last time? This isn’t how to treat customers, I don’t need your shoty coffee,” and gave it back to him and walked out. The drinks are well made as is the food. The seating is numerous but as this is a popular spot it was difficult to find seating for a party of more than 2. The prices are very reasonable. The only downside, there were some very questionable characters. At one point we were very worried for our safety because of one particular patron who seemed to be a little unstable. And parking was difficult to find. Each member of my party had to park at least 3 blocks away and walk. The team they have here alternates, for the most part, on the graveyard shift and morning shift, but the quality of their products remain the same - GREAT. Need to consider power washing the bathroom floor and they REALLY need to routinely (or more because I dont think they do at all) sanitize tables and chairs. The night time overnight employee sucks. Hell forget your order, make other peoples orders, or COMPLETELY ruin your drink or food just for not tipping on a single drink item or food item. What are they doing, holding onto complaints about this employees behaviors? And loss of $10 to $40+(on busy nights) per night of lost business transactions due to people not wanting to order from this permanent overnight employee anymore. I am spreading the word about this on social media and more!

Le stats is always open. Always. This is important. Their coffee is excellent and so is their menu. The WiFi is live and there are lots of tables to put your laptop on. This place is great!

Every coffee house should have one thing perfected - a regular cup of coffee. Im sad this wasnt the case when I walked to my nearby Lestats because I love the atmosphere inside.. the coffee was watery -- then I went back and paid to add a shot of espresso to it because it was so watered down which ended up costing me $4 total for a cup of coffee with flavor. Unfortunately the cup was full of coffee grinds at the bottom. Total fail.

Just paid $5 for a lukewarm, half-empty cappuccino and the service was rushed and pushy to boot. Ive been to Lestats before and know that this isnt the norm but this is really disappointing. Employees should have a higher standard of service than what I just received.

Cosy cafe located on University Ave in San Diego. Massive massive place milling with University students makes it the perfect hangout joint. Coffee isnt bad either, but one should go there for the vibe and warmth associated with this cafe. One of the top places to go to, especially after a wonderful Thai meal at Baan Thai also located up the street.

I understand the whole homeless problem or whatever people want to call it, but it has severely impaired the employees ability to be courteous at this establishment. I dont know if i was looking overly homeless or maybe just more tired from work than usual, but i definitely was singled out and asked if i was going to buy something and told i had a few minutes to decide or i had to go. I had barely sat down! After i was told one coffee didnt buy me all night, whatever that means, and that i either had to buy something else or leave. Thats pretty crazy considering i didnt talk to anyone and sat alone at a table in the back which is where i barely felt comfortable. I was meeting a friend there who as soon as she showed up we left. I dont know what kind of experiences these people have had, but they will judge you by whatever scale they have predetermined, which is probably just fine for you if youre a yuppy or uptight poor person hater. If you enjoy looking down your nose in disgust at anyone you may seem poorer or beneath you in social status, this place is for you.

I had visited this place multiple times before and stopped by again after more than a year.I ordered an iced dirty chai latte and was extremely disappointed when I took the first sip. The drink cost around $6 but the quality of the coffee was equivalent to one from a gas station. I would be hesitant to purchase from them again.

If it was possible to give this place -5 stars I would. DO NOT come here for the coffee or the Vermont panini breakfast sandwich. You can really tase the microwave in their food.
