This place is a true gem. The fact that so many locals choose it for their staycations speaks volumes. I live just five minutes away and always enjoy my visits here. The room rates are very reasonable, and the prices for poolside food and drinks are refreshingly fair. The food and drink options are excellent and well-priced.During my stay, I encountered several bartenders, but Audrey stood out the most. She deserves a HUGE shoutout. Audrey is an absolute delight, going above and beyond to source the specific wine I wanted. Her friendly and witty demeanor makes her a true asset to your company. As a small business owner, I recognize outstanding talent when I see it, and Audrey is certainly a gem.

Absolutely beautiful resort located in a small lake. The customer service was professional and courteous. I love that we have a choice of one free hour of kayak or paddleboard. Billiards room also on site along with three pools and Poolside bar. Rooms are spacious and beds are extremely comfortable with great linens. Absolutely recommend. Stores are included to use at the firepits along with movie night at the pool!

I was excited to stay at this resort. Check-in was great and the staff was very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. And then we got to our room.... NOT SO GREAT. The carpet was filthy and needed a vacuum. The room only had a thin cover (not blanket) and didnt have any extra blankets in the closet. The bathroom sink water pressure was a little stronger than a trickle. It was moderately decorated but the smell of staleness hit us as soon as we opened the door. Over time, the stench of sewage took over and I was forced to notify the front desk. They sent maintenance but the smell only dimmed slightly. The next day, we had to have our iron replaced and the cleaning crew didnt come until 5 pm. I had to go to the front desk to ask for clean towels to shower. The front staff was friendly but did nothing to appease all of the inconveniences.

We really enjoy staying here. My reason for the 3 stars on the rooms is this. 1. The lighting in the bathroom is lacking. There are no vanity lights in the mirror. Only overhead lights make makeup application very difficult. 2. The pillows are horrendous. They go completely flat. No fluff whatsoever. 3. There are SO MANY SPIDERWEBS. Its difficult to enjoy the wonderful balconies and beautiful views when there are spiders all over. A couple of times now, we have been put in a room with a fridge that does not work properly. However, after making a phone call, the staff is fairly quick to right it. Also...can we please put more regular coffee in the rooms!?!? 😀These, in my opinion, are not reasons to pass this place up. It is beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are smores ingredients in every room!

Sophia was great at check in, fabulous rooms where detail was paid close attention to. We had a nice, relaxing weekend, loved the pool, rented a pontoon, listened to live music. Very family friendly and would recommend and hope to come back soon!

I love Lakehouse Resort! Have stayed 3 times this year. Just over hill Palomar Airport. Excellent service ASAL Front Desk has a great personality which shines onto the guests! Pedal boats, Swans, bikes, attention to detail in guest rooms . Good Energy highly recommend going! Enjoy

The downstairs rooms are awful. You’ll hear every footstep, cabinet open and closing, and quiet conversation from upstairs. We didn’t have a next door neighbor, but I’d guess the walls are about as sound insulating if not worse. Our room faced the road, and allowed road sound easily as well. The hotel itself is nice, but unfortunately not having decent sound insulation nullifies one of the most important parts of a hotel: sleeping.If you’re already booked here, or forced to stay here for some reason: Find out if you’re in a ground floor or road facing room and demand an upstairs room.

Huge disappointment!We booked this place as part of a wedding party. We arrived after the wedding to check in. This was the first time that we were going to be alone since we had our son and we were really looking forward to it.We got to our room and we could hear music playing in the background, but we didnt think too much of it. Then you started to smell cigarettes and marijuana. The music and the smell continued to increase so I called the front desk and the person who answered asked me if I would like her to bring me an air freshener.I told her that my wife was pregnant and neither one of us smoked so this was not something that we were comfortable with. She then told me that management would arrive at 730am and to call back at that time to voice my concern.Needless to say, we asked for a refund and left within 5 minutes. This place is not family-friendly and its more properly listed as a motel. Resort is quite a stretch.

Very disappointed overall. We came as a referral from a friend and will not be coming back again. Sheets were dirty, bathroom sink had no water pressure at all, thermostat didn’t work.The staff seemed friendly enough and were competent, but that could not overcome the deficiencies. One morning, the outdoor music system started playing the worst disco music ever made at a level that woke many people up! It was horrific. We called down to the desk to turn it down and they never did. It was ridiculous. This place is not for those looking for a quiet relaxing environment.

When I was about to book, I was hesitant as I saw all the positive reviews about the resort. I suspected all of them were fake reviews, but I finally booked a regular room. The next day, I called in to upgrade my room, and they said sure and it would be a complimentary upgrade. When I went there, it was super friendly and clean, and there were lots of things to do other than there was a family from free bike, one hour every day for kayaking, free smors kit. It is family and pet-friendly. I love it and recommend

The room is boat house style and clean. Dont let their picture of the carpet think badly. lol, its new, clean, and its just an odd style. We took advantage of the free 1 hour kayaking. I wish it had been two singles, not a double, but it was fun. Check-in is at 4 pm, and the boat rental closes at 5 pm. Check out is 11 am, and the boat rental opens at 10 am. So get there by 3:30 pm or you will not get to go in pm.

Great place for a weekend getaway from Orange County. Had a room viewing the lake. Whether your idea of serenity is sitting on the balcony sittimg wine with cheese, or kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, golfing, tennis, pickleball, or biking. This resort is good for couples as well as families and this place has is all. Im looking forward to my next visit.

It was so nice! Definitely get a room with a balcony with a view of the lake! It looked so beautiful. Loved walking around the lake and hearing the swans honking in the morning. Great if you bring your dog too. Just be careful with little dogs because there is a coyote hanging out in this vicinity and it will hide out in the shrubbery and snatch your dog up while youre walking (someone warned my friend). We saw it by the lake one of the days. The pedal boat was very fun! It costs extra but was worth it. A couple of the other options are free with your stay, but we didnt try them. The lake was so peaceful! The little coffee shop was also nice. They also have coffee makers in the rooms. This place is a hidden gem. Took stars off for the room downstairs with no balcony. It had no window you can open and smelled very stale and bad. Get a balcony room if you want fresh air. lol My phone internet using data was also really slow here for some reason, but they did have great WiFi you can use during your stay.

Used to love this place. I had a $100 gift certificate I requested be used for my stay- 2 days prior to my stay- I was deducted the full amount for my night coming up. Upon arriving i informed them that I was guaranteed the $100 would be deducted from my room and required a refund. I have been given the run around and lied to about the refund processing to then their system not allowing the refund- to we will mail you out a check..I stayed 12/22 and it is 1/14. Still NO REFUND! And the room we were given to stay in was outdated! Bathroom door broken- cheap furniture- hallway carpet dirty.. so disappointing because it was a favorite - never again

They claim on their website you can fish on this private lake, Lake San Marcos. They even rent boats with the Marina readily telling you it’s ok as well. The issue becomes when you leave the Marina and go ANYWHERE on the lake. You are stopped multiple times by residents informing you hotel guests are not allowed to fish on the lake.FINALLY I met an employee with the HOA that OWNS THE LAKE and was advised Lakehouse was incorrect, hotel guests are NOT allowed to fish anywhere on the lake outside the hotel marina.I wasted my vacation driving 3 hours to come to this specific hotel being it was the only one that advertised fishing.Other than the main point of the trip being ruined, the scenery and surrounding area were beautiful. Hesitantly I’ll give 2 stars JUST FOR THAT. Not this “resort”. Just the location.

Family getaway for a night with our 4 year old for NYE. Affordable and comfy beds! Was worried about noise, from other reviews.. but we didn’t have an issue. Free welcome drink and s’mores kit (with multiple fire pits) were a hit. Also, free paddle boat and bucket of balls at the golf course were added bonuses. The Italian restaurant had great food and atmosphere, and the Grill down the street had delicious food (breakfast and dinner)! We would definitely come back for an affordable and easy getaway.

A hidden gem! We had been struggling with out teenage son the last couple years. This staycation was exactly what we needed to reconnect and bond. We rode bikes, sat next to a bonfire, played family games. Felt like time had stopped. The rooms are nicely upgraded. The whole resort is meant for core memories and connection.

We stayed at Lakehouse with our wedding party for our wedding in San Marcos in July 2023 and it did not disappoint! The lakeside cottage rooms are beautiful and serve as a great space for bridal party hair and makeup. The amenities were great - we enjoyed s’mores at our lakeside cottage fire pit and a yummy charcuterie board. Our guests enjoyed the water sports available at Lake San Marcos and lounging by the pool.

We live locally and stayed here while our home was being repaired. Avoid at all costs, the rooms are cheaply remodeled, walls are paper thin and you hear everything from other rooms. Staff is also pretentious and rude. Be sure to check other reviews where people describe staff entering their room without knocking and dirty rooms. Not worth anywhere near their room rates. You can have a much better experience at Omni La Costa nearby.

From welcome drinks at check in to easy check out we enjoyed the entire stay! The room as beautiful as pictured, and the on-property amenities were amazing. I highly recommend the Canteen coffee shop the staff is awesome and the coffee was perfect!! We loved our morning paddle board sessions, the marina staff was great, super friendly and knowledgeable. The whole property is meticulously maintained and gorgeous. I would recommend The Lake House to anyone who will sit still long enough to listen!

More like 2.5 stars, but rounded up for customer service staff.Our initial room (1102 or 1202) had torn carpet & ants coming through & lining the nightstands & tables. We called the front desk, who were happy to accommodate us.We moved to our next room (2205) & luckily it was ant-free.There was a random long brown hair in the refrigerator & it had that old ice refrigerator smell. The room smelled a bit stale & I noticed a few old cobwebs on the ceiling above our bed & the wooden fish art on the wall.It appears that these rooms dont get aired out & properly dusted..Carpeted halls & bedrooms have deep stain issues & hold on to stale smells. From Building 1 & Building 2.Thankfully, I bring my own Lysol wipes so I was able to wipe down the light switches (gross), doorknobs & table tops.After seeing 2 different rooms, I unfortunately am not impressed with this resort.Again, customer service was great & responsive. The staff do what they can to make customers happy.Management needs to invest in some upgrades, replace old gross carpets with hardwood or vinyl flooring & more staff to help clean/dust the rooms.Also, fix the slow internet! Ive worked remote plenty of times from a hotel & Lakehouse San Marcos has been the worst. However, I understand this resort was built in the 60s. So that may have something to do with poor connection.Sorry, Lakehouse! I really wanted to like this place.

I found this place on the Internet. I was reluctant before seeing it. Foolishly, on a holiday weekend, I came down here, hoping to book it the same day. Unfortunately, the first day I needed was booked out but we were able to book it for the second and third day. The hotel is great. The service is great. They have a really nice restaurant with great food for dinner and then they have a nice restaurant below that for lunches during the day. We had breakfast on the golf course and that was pretty good. I would definitely stay here again if I needed to stay in the area.

Overall the hotel was not bad. However, for a 4 star hotel I had higher expectations.-The AC did not work at all, blowing warm air. Finally it was fixed on our last night at 11pm.-Random kids knocking on our door and climbing on our balcony (we were on the 1st floor).-Quiet hours are supposed to be 9 or 10pm but a party was going on until 12:30am.-Reported strong gas smell in the hallway.-Front desk ladies didn’t greet me or asked me how my stay was when I checked out.

My daughter just had her wedding here and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! We had to relocate her ceremony to the golf course area due to excessive rain causing the grass area to be soggy but I am SO glad we did because the golf area was unbelievably green and gorgeous!!!The cocktail hour back by the lake was breathtaking. The food was delicious and fresh and guests couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. We did not expect the level of quality for such a large party (150) but the chefs/servers did an incredible job!!!The property is quaint, clean, and comfy. I want to come back to enjoy a stay with poolside or lake view 😍Overall, beautiful, gorgeous, accommodations and I highly recommend!!!

Stayed here after the renovation of this place, it was nicely renovated. A few complaints, they did not clean our room at all during our stay even after we called them multiple times to do so and restock items and when someone came to bring us the items, they brought ONE of each item when there were two people staying there on the reservation. Also, the rooms have zero sound reduction, we could hear the baby next to us crying all night and our other shared wall you could hear every conversation like they were in our own room so definitely bring earplugs. They were not attentive at all during our stay. There is only one pool and there was a large party staying there so you couldn’t even go in the pool or jacuzzi because it was like Vegas. The food at the restaurant was great and the lake view was beautiful at night. Overall, it was not what we expected, hopefully they cater to their guests needs better in the future.

We stayed here for a wedding at Links and it was perfect. The check in procedure didn’t take more than 3 minutes, there was an elevator to take our luggage up to the room, the rooms were clean and cute. There are larger toiletries for the shower than you usually get at a hotel.

We went for the Winter Wonderland event that’s held on the lawn to the right of Amalfi. It was a mixture of Hotel Del Coronado and Fairmont Grand Del Mar except it wasn’t free. It cost $5, you get a wrist band and you can re-enter same day.It’s only on the weekends and certain days of the month. Your ticket includes the candy cane cruise on the lake to see the lights of the lake front properties. There were 3 Candy cane cruises that took 15 minutes each. We took it twice, once before sun set and when it was dark.Everything else cost money like the kiddie train ride. There were 4 vendors selling food and alcohol. Lots of fire pit seating and you can roast s’mores. You can also rent the igloos.Overall, it gives you something to do and to go once. I would not spend more than $5 to go when you can get the same experience at Coronado or The Grand for free. It was also 40 mins in traffic from Poway each way. However, the lake ride was an added bonus. I wish that the hotel itself was decked out for more photo opportunities.We parallel parked on the street directly in front of the entrance. The closest lot was valet at Amalfi. Then further out at the resort entrance.

Pros: the resort is clean. Front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. Wonderful pool area and pool bar. Plenty of parking. Complimentary golf cart ride over to the course where we had a nice breakfast at their restaurant.Cons: extremely overpriced, very low water pressure in the bathroom (sink, shower and toilet), multiple large spider webs on our balcony, shower water temperature was either freezing or scalding, shower door didnt close all the way so there was water all over the floor after every shower. Coffee bar staff was slow and couldnt make a proper iced coffee. Overfilled my cup and made a mess all over when they handed it to me. The walls are thin (you hear everything) and the noise from floors above you is very loud. You hear every footstep. Wifi is horrible and cell service is non existent in this location. The beds are not comfortable along with the very soft pillows (no support). Also, the lighting in the room, especially the bathroom, leaves little to be desired.Note: the use of the word resort is a stretch. This is a motel they have dressed up as a resort. I paid almost $890 for two nights and thats insane.

The bed was incredibly comfy, but the lighting in the room was really dim and yellow, making it difficult to do makeup. The bathroom lacked bright lights and a fan, creating an extremely quiet atmosphere. However, the pool was great, and the standout were the bartenders/servers Sara and Audrey. Saras skinny margarita with fresh squeezed orange juice was incredible! I hope they consider adding a spicy margarita to the menu in the future. As a vegetarian, I wished they had more options like a quinoa burger or veggie sandwich available. One major drawback was the absence of a bathroom in the pool area, which was a real bummer. Having to leave the gated pool area and use the bathroom down the hall or go all the way back to my room was quite inconvenient. This situation probably contributed to people using the pool as an impromptu restroom, and it made me question the pools cleanliness. Additionally, if you forgot your key, it became an even bigger hassle to access the bathroom. I hope they address this issue in the future to enhance the overall guest experience.

Fabulous place for a family hangout. Three pools, hottub, firepits and bar. You can rent various transpo to go out on the lake. Paddle board, pontoon, swan, etc. The rooms are smallish, lighting is dim. Each room has a balcony with chairs and small table. Its nice to sit out and enjoy the surroundings. This is a huge property. They have an Italian restaurant on property. Other dining is available at the golf course within walking distance.

We had the pleasure of hosting our Annual Holiday Party at the Lakehouse Hotel and Golf Resort and it was quite perfect. The exterior was fully decorated in a Winter Wonderland theme which was a breathtaking view from the inside of our venue. The entire back wall consisted of large windows that highlighted the lake, fireplace and decorations to truly capture the essence of the season. Our guests were enthused about the food, service and overall experience. I want to give an extra big thank you to the team who supported this event and a special thank you to Ashley and Kiara who personally assisted in executing this event. To be honest, any staff who assisted during the entire process was incredibly helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend the Lakehouse at San Marcos for your future events and vacations. I didnt even mention how beautiful the rooms and their view were. I had the pleasure of staying in the Hideaway Suite and the view the following morning was incredible with the sun rise. Im confident well be back in the again but have a look for yourself and be immersed in luxury while staying connected to nature. This hotel is in a great location however I would say my experience with the room was unfortunate. There was food gunk/ food stain on the table when we checked in, a bed side lamp was out, and a bedside electrical outlet was out of power the entirety of our stay.When I brought this up with the staff, the best they could do was $40 off our stay.Personally, for a 4 star rated Hotel and Golf Resort, I thought the room care was horrible. The food gunk left on the coffee table was a very unpleasant/ unsatisfactory experience in and of itself.

So many things wrong. A worker walked into my room without knocking while I was changing and didn’t even apologize I had to go tell the front desk. The water pressure is nonexistent. The beds were uncomfortable. They give a s’mores kit but the fire pit doesn’t open until sunset and after 9 only one tiny pit is available. So there’s really no room to even make the s’mores. This place is trying so hard to be good but just missed the mark on so many important things. Such a waste of money.

My wife and I came here on our honeymoon. We had an absolute blast. This place was worth every penny we spent on it. Its up-to-date, very clean, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the amenities kept us very busy.For starters, they have several fire pits around the pool area (and a fantastic hot tub), which they give you smores to roast over. Its very cute. They also give you a free bucket of balls for their driving range. The poolside bar wasnt incredibly well stocked for making custom requests, but their house drinks were just fine for us and the bartender was very nice and made us laugh.We are already planning to come here again next time we decide to visit San Marcos.

This place is fine if you get a room on the water any other room is not worth having. The restaurants are usually not available because they do weddings and other events so you have to get food off property. The services they provider virtually no with the exception of pot of coffee in the lobby in the morning which I appreciated.

We went to check out the winter festivities. The staff was very nice. On their website theyre advertising a winter wonderland with ice skating. Ice skating! We were so excited. We rolled up and the resort tried their best but used a plastic skating surface that did not mimic real ice skating. Some rental skates were adjustable but for my kids, the ankle adjusters were still too big leaving very poor ankle support. I didnt have much luck with my adult skates. No ankle support either. Even had I worn big socks, still would not have gotten the job done. $15/adult. $10/child. They had two of those beginner ice skater crutches for kids to learn with. Great idea but very poor execution. They had some nice decorations, beautiful temporary bathrooms (really, not being sarcastic) and food vendors. This place is OK at best. First, don’t be fooled. This is NOT a resort. It’s a high-end Motel. Honestly no room is worth more than $149-$199max per night. The walls in the room are wafer thin. You hear everything!!! Kids screaming, stomping etc. There are no bathtubs in any room and the shower barely spits out any water. No kid friendly. They don’t provide blankets for the kids bunk beds. There is NEVER towels available at the pool. When I mean never, I mean never! The pools are basic (think holiday inn/motel 6). The boats for rent are super old and dirty. Tears in all the fabric, engine sputters, mold on surfaces etc. The concept seams cool, lake hotel a few miles from San Diego…but go here with very low expectations. You can get the same experience at a local Motel 6 for $69/night.

The Lakehouse has always been my favorite place, with its picture-perfect Mountain and Lake San Marcos. LSM Marina is a must to enjoy water sports or simply cruise and admire the surroundings. I am very happy with the pontoon boat that I rented. I must say that I’ve seen them a lot cleaner back in 2014-2016 and they seem to be the same boats this 2022 which explains why there are stains all around or weather damages on the leather seats, which are understandable when used over the years. No complaints on the same awesome experience. Just a suggestion if the management wants to improve by sanitizing better, change upholstery or deep-clean everything. The staff who answered my call like Liam and the guys assisting at the dock are all very welcoming. I’ll still give it a 5⭐️ And we’ll definitely be back.

They offer kayak, pontoon boats, and other options for getting out on the water directly from the resort Marina. Oh. We had a great time at this resort. It was a great home base for our day trips. We loved the room. It was clean and provided a great view of the lake. Very comfy bed, couch and chairs. Amenities were plentiful. We happened to arrive the same as the farmers market next door so that was also a pleasure. It is in a small community but it feels private. However since it is in town you can pretty get whatever you need at the local shopping centers. They had bikes, kayaks, boats all available at the marina which were steps away from our room. While clean, this place was not the 4 or 5 star hotel it was boasted to be. The staff was friendly enough and did not treat us rudely. They had a good service team for the night that we stayed there. The room was clean, but the shower did not drain and it was hot even though we had the air down to 65. Also there were not a ton of amenities and the ones they had all closed too early. We did not get to use the pool or lake so I cant comment on that, but the room was just a standard room. The beds were extremely soft and short, but if thats not an issue for you, then you will like the sleeping accommodations. They did provide us a toothbrush free of charge, so that was great, but that was about all we experienced. Unless the motif is shabby chic, the bathroom was old and worn out, with paint stripped on the door and the sink siding, that could be updated . In my opinion, the overall the quality of the room is not worth the price of staying there.

We were put in a room that is probably not even 200sq feet and cost us $475 per night. I went downstairs and asked for an upgrade and was told by a young lady named Bianca that nothing was available. She wasnt friendly and didnt make any attempts to accommodate us. The parking lot did not look fool and there didnt look like a lot of people on the property. We have been to hundreds of hotels in our life and this is by far the worst hotel room we have ever stayed in. Loved this resort. It’s tucked into a quiet rural neighborhood of San Marcos, but loved the vibe. It’s a great weekend getaway with plenty of activity. One of the best parts is they they are an extremely dog friendly resort. They were extremely friendly and accommodating for our two dogs, even providing dog beds.There are plenty of activities as well; the resort offers free bicycles to ride around, and activities on the lake such as kayaking, paddle boards, and boats. Its a beautiful place. Bar at the poolside with a lake view. The view is everything really. Customer service was good with the exception of the bartender by the pool. My husband and I we 2nd in line behind a group of 5 and it took 30 min until we got to order then it took another 15 min for him to take our order, make our drink and ring us up. The line behind us was ridiculous and no one else was sent out to help this incredibly slow bartender. My husband and I had a room looking out to the pool where there were 10 grown adults in the jacuzzi sharing shots from the bottle during our COVID pandemic. Thats was hardly the issue, these people were yelling from the time we got there until 8p which was when we decided to leave because we wanted a good nights rest. To me, even though the parents were okay getting plastered while the kids played off to the side if this is something you like then its a great place to party poolside with kids. My husband and I went to enjoy a nice romantic, quite stay and it didnt provide that so we left. I would definitely NEVER bring my kids due to the drinking, drunkenness and profanity that you could hear being yelled from your room. So I would say this is Not a family friendly place.

Beautiful venue. The beds are so so comfortable. Everything is clean and the decor is tasteful. I spent a lot of time in the spa. Robes were provided. I was attending a womens retreat with my church and I felt like we were eating all the time. The food was probably my least favorite part. It was well-balanced, but it wasnt always prepared the way I like it (bacon was fried crispy, but it was served cold and the fat had already solidified on the pieces). Other than that, I would love to go back and take advantage of the other amenities.

Excellent views along with a nice property, it really is in a beautiful location. We took a boat on the lake, it was really great - we took the 2 hours which was just the right amount of time for a steady cruise all the way around. The room we stayed in was nicely appointed, although there was a few items that needed some tlc, some items were damaged ( wall behind tv) and the paint didnt match ( just needed to be painted). The sofa was comfortable but had some rather bad marks/ stains. One of the bedroom side tables was missing a drawer pull - silly things that could be fixed with ease... and lastly missing cutlery we had 1 full set, plus a half .. However we made the most of our stay and overall we enjoyed the stay and we would stay again, just hope that it is a little better prepared next time.

This is a very nice property but seems to lack good management and some common sense approach to hotels. I mean there is great potential in this place but the staff didnt seem to really care too much about the guess. Maid service was inconsistent day today. We saw trays of food sitting in the hallway from room service for nearly twenty-four hours before being picked up. If you dont like Tempur-Pedic beds dont stay here. They tend to be very hot and difficult for some people. There was a snack shop that was advertised as being open certain hours on signs in front of the hotel but the hotel told us its kind of open whenever so you couldnt really trust the sign. The lake and the amenities were great. So Im kind of sad this was a very convenient and great place to stay for location to our relatives we were visiting oh, but I think I might stay at a Marriott property close by next time and know what Im getting for my money. Also beware there is a $20 per night Resort fee that they dont really tell you about until you check out. For this kind of hotel that is a rip-off.

I was incredibly disappointed, especially after seeing this hotel was rated as a four star hotel. The smell was absolutely terrible, it was a combination of rotting carpet and cigarettes. The tile in the shower was broken, the ceiling had water damage which probably explains the smell. The curtains were tangled and stained, the walls were dirty and the door to the room barely seemed to lock. The door did not have a swing arm security restraint which made me not feel as safe. Neither light by the side of the bed worked- I could go on- I complained and all I got was that they knew the carpets were badly stained and smelled and maybe Id be happier in the room next door. I checked the room and it had the same smell issue and the lights didnt work as well! Very disappointed! I travel frequently and was looking forward to my stay here and it turned into a big bummer. I still am at awe as to how nobody else has complained, I hope this review helps deter some travelers to other true four star accommodations.

It took 5 different calls to successfully book my room once I got to the resort they changed the reservation name to someone else’s name there was hair and spiders all over the room and there was toilet paper in the toilet the toilet wasn’t secured to the ground. There was someone rearranging furniture in the upstairs bedroom till midnight every night. And the second morning of my stay I got waken up 5 times to get out of my room cuz the front desk canceled my reservation. On my day of check out I asked if there was anything they could do about a discount because of my terrible terrible stay at the resort and they told me they would have someone call me back it’s been 5 days and I tried calling again and they told me the same thing we will have some one call you back. View is nice, but no. go somewhere else. i went for my cousin’s wedding and it was definitely an experience.- rooms were about $250 a night with taxes and fees which is not a problem, but the room looked and felt like it belonged in a 2 star hotel. the service was awful.- they knew we were here for a wedding and we were told that each guest is allowed a complimentary water from the front desk. when we went to get them, we had to argue with the front desk. at this moment, they decided to give us a guest limit for some reason. it was either these waters or pay $5 for a 12oz bottle in the room, but there still wasn’t enough for everyone.- we were told that the person that reserved the room need to be there at check in which isn’t a problem. we asked for early check in, so that we’d be able to get ready for the rehearsal dinner without rushing or stressing out. the front desk said that wasn’t a problem. check in was 4PM, but we were told early check in was 2:30-3PM. the rooms ended up not being available until 4:30PM. they were reminded of the wedding and the rehearsal dinner, but said they were doing the best they could.-i asked for late check out and if there would be a fee. again we were told that wouldn’t be an issue. i was also told there wouldn’t be a fee. check out was 11AM, but the front desk said we could check out at 3PM. i thanked them and breathed a sign of relief. again, i was there with a wedding, so these times extensions would have been absolutely amazing. at 11:30AM, i hear a knock on the door and it’s house keeping. i explain the situation, the maid says okay and leaves. i get a call from the front desk and NOW i’m told that i would have to pay for an extra day if i decided to leave at 3PM. again had to argue with them because i was told otherwise the night before.no compensation was offered once for any of these inconveniences. overall, a unanimous thumbs down from the wedding party. they did not help make our stay any easier. we had to argue with the employees from day one when the miscommunication was coming from their end. view is beautiful, but find a different place to stay. not worth it.

Very good lunch and we split the pulled pork sandwich which came with fries and we added a bowl of smoked tomato basil soup to our lunch. It all was delicious. Our waiter was fantastic!! He had a great personality and was happy to be there and it showed. It was my birthday and we got a beautiful dessert that we split and it was beautifully said out in the plate with writing of happy birthday around the edge of the dish. We like dining here for breakfast and lunch as its not crowded. Dinner can be busy and not busy. Breakfast and luck provide great views of the lake. I wish I could remember the waiters name but he was young and blonde so I hope that management gives him a part in the back as he was on top of things and a true pleasure to have him wait on us!

Perfect! They even let us switch rooms on our second day - allowing us to be closer to our friends room while simultaneously gaining a balcony and a better view. We were pleased to use their fitness center at their country club down the road since theyre currently building a new gym on site. The canteen coffee was cool. We rented a large 8-10 person pontoon boat for 1 hour for our sons birthday celebration with his friends. 1 hour is a good time on this lake to be able to see everything. The staff was professional and clear with the instructions for us in how to operate the boat. Check in was smooth and they were helpful in getting us hooked up when we returned. THIS IS NOT A RESORT. The rooms were extremely small and had full beds, and if you are taller than 5 feet that is a problem. Our room had a view of the parking lot and wassmall and expensive. And that is just about THE ROOM. The resort was small and didnt have free breakfast, good restaurants, or any entertainment for the family. There only restaurants were an italian resteraunt in the parking lot and a restaurant that is very far away from the resort. Even though we got a deal for our room, we couldnt take it and decided to leave one day early. They didnt give us our money back and over all it was a really bad experience. (With really uncomfortable bedding). You could get better experiences in a motel 6, honestly.

Took a star off the rating because they were a hot mess yesterday for check in. We didnt get a room until after the official check in time. I was super disappointed because this was a splurge for us on our last night of a vacation before heading home. Getting in late meant we couldnt fully enjoy the time and amenities. We booked a couple of rooms at this hotel for a wedding. Before arriving to the hotel we called in advance to ask for an early check in, and explained why. We also checked and all the rooms were ready at 11AM, even though not being able to check in, they were vacant. Our check in time was at 4PM, which is normal for anyone staying at this hotel, BUT IT WASNT EVEN READY AT 4PM? We had an important matter to attend to at 4:30PM, and they gave us the room at 4:30PM. 30 MINUTES LATER THAN REGULAR CHECK IN TIME!Not only that, the receptionist Judy was so disrespectful and gave us so much attitude. She kept cutting off my friend as she was talking... When the room was ready, Judy purposely made mistakes and said unnecessary things to prolong our check in. Our friend didnt deserve being treated this way by the receptionist, especially on her wedding day! This ruined the experience of the hotel right from the start, and we werent even there for 10 minutes...Whoever is the manager and is reading this, please do something about your receptionist Judy, she needs to take some classes on how to treat people...

The room was spacious with a view of the lake. Making smores on the fire pit next to our room was relaxing and renting a boat to drive around the lake was fun. My son swam in one of their two pools, ate both at the on-site restaurant and the golf course, practiced his golf swing, went kayaking and drove a water bike. He and I played table tennis. It was an incredibly relaxing week we spent there. We woke up early to watch the sunrise and listen to the ducks, swans and other birds. And then watch the sunset. We went bowling nearby. I don’t speak Spanish and yet this survey is all in Spanish. We really enjoyed the lake activities. The reason for less than five stars is due to the design of the room. It was not designed to be functionally useful. We stayed in room 3108. There was not enough lighting. And the placement of the existing lights was not ideal. There is no overhead light for the center of the space. And there is no light above the dining/workspace countertop. There was hardly any room in drawers to put clothing. The drawers were small and there were not enough. The two overly large closets had one hanger each so we had to double or triple up our clothing. The bathroom had plenty of counter space but no drawers so everything had to remain on the counters. The provided clock was set to the wrong time. The shower drain was extremely slow.

I really wanted this place to go above and beyond for me. For the price, I expected better than just an okay stay. Unfortunately that wasnt the case in my experience. Housekeeping was hard to come by, and they could not give you an estimated time so if you call for them, youre just kind of waiting for them to show up and then you can go be on your way. The employees are hit or miss. Some of them are super nice, a few are rude and appear annoyed that they have to do their job. The rules are conflicting at this hotel. I read online that only small dogs were allowed but I saw (and heard) so many big dogs, it felt like my room was surrounded by them. Then there is the quiet time rule, that apparently no other guests follow, as I was woken up to the sounds of children screaming and running down the hall at 6am. No one enforces any of the rules, so youre just kind of on your own. And then there is a sign posted by the pool that says one of the hot tubs is for adults only from 4pm to 9pm, but children still found their way into that as well. I may be a stickler, but I stayed here for my honeymoon, and I wanted to relax but that was kind of difficult given all the extra noises. Our upstairs neighbors would not stop stomping around. I guess the walls are just a little bit too thin. Check in time was at 4, but of course my room wasnt ready in time so I had to wait some extra time. They didnt even attempt to make up for it. All in all, this hotel wasnt the getaway I was hoping for. The boats are cool, but thats about the only thing theyve got going for them.

I love staying at this location. I feel that its a bit overpriced but I always have fun when I stay here. The rooms are pretty spacious, the view of the lake from our balcony is amazing and there are plenty of activities you can do on and near the lake. Its a great place to stay with the family. My only gripe with the hotel is that the shower could have been disigned a little better so that water doesnt splash out from under the glass door and wet the floor everywhere. Also, the the pool closes at 9pm which seems unreasonably early for the weekend. Enough room and seating for everyone (around 20 people). Easy check in and Lakehouse is small enough that it was easy to find. There is a REALLY close by restaurant and bar. The parking lot view rooms are much lower quality (I think all the negative reviews are from people who stayed in those rooms), but I would say the price they charge for them is reasonable, especially considering the additional amenities that come with staying there. $19/each for a 3 course meal from 5 - 6 pm at the restaurant, with happy hour specials, was delicious and a fantastic value! S’mores were a cute touch and they have daily free-bees like morning yoga classes and complimentary glass of wine nights.

This place was a great getaway during the stress of a Pandemic. Took the family here for a few days and cruised to the dam in a pontoon rental provided by Lake San Marcos Marina. Hit the lake on the weekdays and you’ll find it to be less crowded. Dog friendly was a plus. Took my guard dog Thor and he had a blast too. I have already recommended to other family members and I would definitely return. The pool areas are nice, with a fire pit and warm towels available if a wind should bring a chill. Fast food places nearby within a mile or so make it easy to accommodate picky eaters. There were some ants and moths around, as if we were next to a big lake, not enough to spoil my time though.

We did a groupon for their lakefront king room. Ahhh the view!! The front desk staff are so nice and helpful. The locals are friendly (everyone says good morning as they pass by). The room was very nice and clean for the most part (had to clean the inside of the Keurig but eh, noones perfect ). I hate that old hotel smell, this room passed my sniff test. Amenities included unlimited beach cruiser rental, an hour rental of kayak and I cant remember the other one, two free drinks at tap in bar and grill, heated pools and jacuzzi (yes, they are open!) Being pregnant while staying here is quite worrisome and I do wish they provided citronella candles, torches, or even netting as these mosquitoes are literally everywhere what with being so close to the lake. Aside from that, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to enjoy a comfortable and beautiful few days near the lake.

Lakehouse Hotel and golf Resort was lovely. I stated for 5 days and I was very happy with my view of the lake and pool area. The room was very nice and clean. The Housekeeping Team did a great job. The bed was comfy and everything in the room it was just right. Loved the balcony are and the chairs on it. I was able to sit in the balcony in the mornings and enjoy my tea or water...it was very relaxing. The have activities of course golf, kayaking, paddleboard etc. You get to choose a hour for free of kayaking or paddle board. I did the kayaking and I enjoyed very much the lake was beautiful and big. The house around it was lovely. The sunset was even better. The restaurant beautiful inside the top floor and the bar downstairs. they both have great views. The room service and the restaurant service are the reasons I am giving this hotel 4 stars. First, the room service I called to ask for so items and they forgot about it after an hour) I have to call again for it again and then they finally brought the items. The service in the restaurant was not so good. The couldnt pay attention of simple requests and every time I called to the restaurant they will let me in hold for awhile, tried to transfer with someone else so I have to be in hold longer or the hang up the phone after I been waiting. In other occasions during my stay they simply didnt answer the phone. I asked for simple things like not to add the bread or cheese to my dish...for some strawberries and they were not able to do it. Drinks were ok. Otherwise, the restaurant is lovely and I was very happy walking in and how I felt in it. The have a great light show at night the you can enjoy in the restaurant while eat. Very nice. In addiction, when you get to check in they will give some a little pack of graham crackers with marshmallows and chocolate so you can do smores on the firepits the are around the resort. Great location and beautiful room and surroundings! I would love to comeback!***Please excuse my grammar

This place was awesome! I have never even heard of Lake San Marcos, but my girlfriend booked us a night for a little stay-cation getaway and we loved it. They had a complimentary hour of kayaking or paddles boarding each day, two spas and pools, fire pits, the whole nine yards. Great stay, am definitely coming back. Breakfast at their restaurant was also delicious.

What a great stay. This was our first time at the property and it differently will not be our last. The pools and jacuzzis were great. The fire pits were great especially after getting out of the pool. We rented a pontoon and relaxed on the lake. There are kayaks and paddle boards available as well. The rooms were pleasent, but those beds were dreamy. Great stay.

Great Hotel for the price. Newly remodeled with a clean modern flair. Beds are very comfortable. Pools are heated. Gas fire-pits throughout. Kids loved the Smores night. It seems to be in a quiet safe location. Kids also loved renting the paddle boats and taking them out on the lake. The management team was very friendly. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.

I took a Lake View which had a beautiful views, But room had lot of ants. At The Marina, Staff was not good. One of the guy was showing so much of attitude. I think they should show some kindness and respect and they should be well trained. This was my personal opinion.

The drive from San Marcos to San Diego or Oceanside is not bad at all and actually quite beautiful, 30 mins. Front desk is very friendly & helpful. I loved the view of the mountains, lake & fountain. Room was super clean. I didnt realize a hair dryer or microwave wouldnt be available in the rooms, so ladies, pack a hair dryer. The rooms do come with a mini fridge & iron, clean towels & sheets. Also, the room came with an hour of paddle boarding each day of the stay, a nice perk. Its about 10 mins to Starbucks.

BEWARE BRIDES- this is definitely NOT the place you want to stay or have your wedding at. I was severely disappointed in the service I received this past weekend for check-in. I really dont understand how there are any good reviews given the disrespect and frustration the bride and I had to go through just to check-in. Heres the timeline:2 days ago: My sister, the bride, had secured about 15-20 rooms for varying guests and bridal party members. 3 of those were 2 bedroom cottages, the most expensive room they offer. She asked for an early check-in if available in order to leave at 4:30 for the purpose of the rehearsal dinner, which was at a strict booking time.Day of, 11am: After driving over an hour and doing rehearsal, I called to ask if any of the cottages were ready. I was told none are ready, but all were vacant. They would be prioritized to clean so we could get in ASAP.1:30pm: After lunch, we called again to see if they were ready. Nope. But they were still prioritized. Okay fine.2:30pm: My sister calls and only one is ready (not bridal). We decide to head over.2:45pm: We get our family checked into their cottage.3:30pm: 2nd cottage (grooms) is ready. They get checked in.4:00pm: Bridesmaids are waiting outside, cold, for the cottage. How does a PRIORITIZED room take FIVE hours to clean? Also, how did the normal rooms check in at 1pm if ours was prioritized? My sister and I walk over and ask them what is going on. We had every right to be irritated as they are at their deadline, and its still not ready. We are greeted by Judy, the supposed manager though she didnt act like one, and she gives A LOT of attitude in her half-hearted apology as if we were the ones that messed up? She proceeds to say theres nothing that can be done, speak condescendingly, and doesnt even try to make up for the unprofessionalism we experienced. By the time we are able to check-in, it is 4:30pm (the time we were SUPPOSED to leave). You know what Judy did to top off the experience? She purposefully took her time to check us in. She said unnecessary things REALLY slowly that the other receptionists didnt during our checkin, and she claimed that she messed up our cards as she was handing them to us, and proceeds to take them back and restart the process. My sister is at this point super frustrated and the most stressed shes been during the wedding process. She also failed to provide the drink ticket vouchers that came with our package and gave us a cottage that didnt have 2 king beds as advertised. It was 1 queen and 1 king. If youre looking for a place to stay with horrible customer service, then Lakehouse is definitely your place to go.

This was such an awesome place for a few nights to getaway from the pandemic! This resort is definitely family friendly and the kids had such a great time. At check in they give u a few smores kit for you to enjoy around the firepit (multiple around the resort) We stayed in the 2 queen beds - premier lake view room and the view was so nice to wake up to...the grill and the Italian restaurant are all walking distance from the resort with outdoor dining...food was pretty good...there is a ton of things to do to keep the entire family entertained..from swimming at the pool, bike rides, golfing, kayak, paddleboards, gondolas, fishing and water trike on the lake...we had the kids put away all the electronics for the weekend and were able to truly enjoy our time together here! This was our first time here and we plan on coming back here again next time!!!

The rooms are nice enough, but there is no service. No towels when we checked in. Ran out of toilet paper and they brought us ONE ROLL two hours later. Never cleaned our room. We had to take towels from the pool in order to shower. Overall Id say your money is better spent elsewhere.

If you have kids, this is a perfect little getaway from Los Angeles.The drive is not that far and the place was really nice.The rooms were designed with the kids in mind and the bed was better than my bed at home. I don’t know where they got their pillows but I want one for my self at home.For some reason last night, the fire alarm went off. We went out on the patio and everyone was out there on our floor and wondering what happened. But aside from that, the kids enjoyed their time in the pool.When you visit here, try the food across the street. Amalfi Cusina Italiana. It’s really good. But when you order take out, check for utensils first.

WARNING!!!! If you stay here and you forget a personal item that’s YOUR fault This hotel cannot even apologize for your bad experience on their property. A friend of mine n her entire wedding party stayed here this month and after numerous attempts to hotel and a conversation w Frank I., General Manager, trying to get help to retrieve her personal belonging, they seemed to not care. Their lack of response, concern, empathy, accountability was what has left a bad taste in ALL of our mouths. Frank even went as far as to question if my friend was even sure she left her item behind . So if you want to stay in a place that acts like they care about you, even in the slightest, go ELSEWHERE!!!! It’s a pretty hotel with a pretty price tag too.., too bad their service doesn’t match .Also, the wedding party had to wait in the lobby because the hotel didn’t have their ROOMS ready..,they didn’t even offer the groups of families a glass of water for the inconvenience. Great customer service. Pools and hot tubs werent busy (maybe a seasonal thing). $5 water bottles in room were ridiculous, but coffee mugs and tap water to the rescue. Showers in rooms dont get hot... which is odd? Overall the location is great if you want to do things in LA and San Diego.

Such a fabulous time on the lake. We ordered food from the restaurant which was ready to be collected ontime. The boat dock attendant was waiting and ready to attend to us on arrival and upon coming back into dock. Really was a great time. This hotel was very disappointing. We do not recommend staying here. The hotel cost for accomodations was middle to high range and they claimed they thoroughly cleaned rooms for guests, to address Covid 19 concerns. However, we found our rooms had been merely tidied but were not at all clean.There were several large stains on the rooms carpeting. Surfaces were left unclean, with old cup rings, etc. and finally, the bed sheets had hairs in them. Perhaps the hotel is suffering from reduced patronage during the pandemic.

Even though we had a late check-in and missed being able to check out the pool, the lake, and all the other amenities and activities this place has to offer, The Lakehouse was a very comfortable place for a nights stay. Clean, warm, and comfortable. Also loved the smore kit we were given upon check-in. Outdoor fire pits were already out, but they let us roast our marshmallows inside the lobby next to the fireplace. Thanks for a yummy dessert and good nights sleep, Lakehouse!

My family stayed here for our vacation from Wed. Nov.6- Sunday, Nov. 10. We found this hotel booking through Legoland & close to a relatives house. Eventhough, we didnt utilize the whole resort (free 1 hour non motorized boat per day), eat at the Decoy Restaurant due to lack of customer service & friendliness (you can find my review on their page), overall we enjoyed our stay. Walls are somewhat thin, you can hear your next door neighbors (snoring/conversations) and the people on top stomping away.Beds were comfortable, room was clean, and coffee inside the room was just okay. (Marshmallows & graham crackers were stale)I feel like the staff of the hotel could be a bit more welcoming and friendly. Shoutout to the younger gentlemen and ladies who did housekeeping for the warm welcome and good morning greets. Not sure if the two older ladies (who drove the shuttle) in the front are supervisors but, it would be great to greet guest and make them feel welcome than giving us a stare and a serious face as if we didnt belong there.Overall, I wished I couldve experienced this whole resort besides our room and the pool. I wished I could of step a foot in the Decoy Restaurant & had a better experience. Mainly because I love to splurge money on food and fancy dining.Would I stay again? Maybe. Didnt feel like it was to my expectations as I was excited prior on my arrival.

The lake surrounding the hotel is very nice and calming. Its just beautiful during the evening when the sun is setting. The rooms were clean and we received complimentary items after checking in. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. There are lots of activitys such as golf, going out on a boat, and a gym. Parking was easy as the streets were available too. Great experice overall; San Marcos is a northern county gem.

My family loves the Lake House! Kids had a wonderful, lasting experience when we first stayed 2 years ago, so decided on having a quick, random overnight stay last week. Scored a good deal via Hotwire and glad we got the Lake House. Unfortunately, the room we wanted was unavailable (it was the family room with a small, cute tiki tent for the kiddos and a small patio outside & didnt mind paying extra for it), but we made due with what we got. Simple but clean room that had a small working fridge, high ceilings, no patio, 2 beds, pretty big bathroom with a nice shower. Didnt get to play at the Lake but we did end up hitting the pool & jacuzzi for a few hours. Not that much people around when we went (around 4pm on a Monday) It was a cloudy summer day when we went but still felt nice! We ended up hitting some breweries (if you are a beer lover, you are absolutely in store..I LOVE San Marcos/Escondido/Encinitas and SD County in general lol) so by the time we came back, it was already too late for the smores (upon check-in, front desk gives you a smores kit where you get to roast them in specific areas of the property). Oh well. Ended up eating the graham crackers that unfortunately was stale. I think they gave us some old ones. Anyway, hope this helps someone else. Cheers!

Nice unique hotels next to the lake. There are relaxing amenities like fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking, pool, sitting by the fire pit, or just relaxing by the lake. Each day, youre allowed a complimentary kayak or paddle board, and coffee at the cafe.Make sure you have water at night as the hotel does not supply free bottled water. The smart water is $5 each.The breakfast is a little inconvenient. Its located at the golf club which is off the resort and about a 10 minutes walk depending where your room is.

I booked a room at the Lakehouse Hotel and Golf Resort on February 13th. The booking was simple and expedient through Expedia. The nearly 1,900 reviews on Expedia were quite high - one of the primary reasons for me choosing this hotel. Map directions to the hotel were spot on. The lobby is spacious and warming, including a beautiful gas fireplace. Hotel staff were welcoming and efficient. After receiving my room key, they gave me a package containing all the fixins for Smores. That was a very nice touch. Parking was not a problem. The spaces were plentiful and large. My room was immediately adjacent to the two swimming pools and the Jacuzzi spa. Ice was available within 100 feet. The room was quite nicely furnished. There was a separate area for the bathroom vanity. (My only very minor complaint here was that the vanity area was a bit on the dark side). I would have enjoyed more lighting. The shower was wonderful. Very large and plenty of hot water. Large LED TV with Direct programming. The bed was incredibly cozy. I slept like a baby. One last thing to point out: they used text messages to both greet me prior to my arrival as well as say good-bye once I had checked out. They also encourage guests to text them if they have questions, issues, concerns or just need some general advice (such as shopping venues, restaurant recommendations, etc). It all seemed like a pretty efficient way of doing business. I cant speak to many of the recreation opportunities they offer, as it was pouring rain when I stayed there. I had a great time and I can highly recommend this hotel. A great stay at a truly reasonable price. You wont be disappointed.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights. We even stayed an extra night because we were having such a great time. However, on the last night we went to the jacuzzi and our skin was BURNING after for hours. My legs and stomach were completely burned. We looked it up online and it was due to PH imbalance. Mine compared to my boyfriends was way worse. Its been almost a week and my skin is completely scarred from the burns. We told the hotel staff and emailed customer service and no one reached back. We have pictures of the burn marks on my body. Do not recommend

Pluses of this place- huge spacious rooms. Simple and nice. The property is nice with 2 pools and 1 hot tub plus firepits. When you arrive they give you a smore making kit. Man made lake on property was nice and available for paddle boarding, kayaking,boating. ( extra fee in addition to resort fee ). Decoy restaurant is very modern and has nice decor. I got chicken pesto sandwich- very healthy tasting but no flavor.Cons- At 9am clubbing music came on from speakers right outside our room which was poolside. No fun to be awaken 2 days in a row on vacation.

Great hotel! My fiancé and I found this hotel/resort on Groupon and decided to get away for the weekend. We had a fantastic view of the lake from our room. Rooms are very clean, hotel staff are friendly, and there is a gorgeous restaurant facing the lake. Additionally, the hotel allows you to go for a free boat ride or go paddle boarding free of charge. Loved it & definitely coming back in the summer!

Perfect place for a getaway, with the family or a couples getaway. The room facing the lake was very nice and the view was beautiful. I used to work maintenance at lake San Marco.. one of the best memories of my life. The owner is down to earth and wants the best for his guests.. He hires accordingly. You will enjoy your time there.. I promise.. the Lake is so much cleaner! And the residents that live around the lake are friendly! EVEN After covid!!!
