One of my favorite places for Chile Verde and chicharon! I usually get the quart size for the family. Price has gone up to about $15 a quart, but food in general has gone up so it’s as expected and well worth it!

This is the best around! House made tortillas and bags of chips. The carnitas is perfectly cooked! Try the chiccaronnes con carne! House made queso fresco is top notch!Weve used this place for a few birthday parties for the kids over the years. This place never disappoints!

Great food, family owned. My favorites are the Chile relleño (ask for chicken sauce to put on it), carnitas, and platanos. A lot of people go for the burritos and they are good but lettuce in a burrito should be a crime.

I think I found my new go-to spot for authentic mexican eats and groceries and catering. Im actually astonished that I passed by this gem my entire life. Street parking might be tricky depending on the time of day. There is also the Miller Ave Garage if you are willing to walk 2-3 blocks.Everyone moves FAST in this little storefront. Next time Ill be sure to look up up the menu before entering and stepping in line. Too much pressure! I really like their homemade chips/guac/salsa. Amazing deal and freshly made.Super Burrito w/ Chile Colorado ($12.95) - MASSIVE burrito the size of my entire arm. Half a burrito was already filling. Downside was the huge chunks of beef was very dry. Will have to try something else next time.Chile Relleno ($4.75) - First time trying this and I enjoyed it. Cheese was just a bit too thick for me. You can order it a la carte or in the burrito!

This was my go to for burritos. I hadnt been there in over six years. It really was quite disappointing. The burritos have gone way up, as everything else. I ordered a carnitas regular burrito. It was cold by the time I reached my car. One person places the tortilla on tin foil. Then the other guy adds all the other ingredients. They really should steam the burritos. So that way the customer gets a nice hot burrito. The carnitas were dry and not as good as I remember. I would get bites of just rice & beans. You hardly get any meat in a regular burrito. I used to love this place. I dont think I will be back. I used to be a regular. Have to find a new spot.

Im a burrito-fiend, constantly on the lookout for the next best burrito. Ive experienced many, from the california burritos of San Diego to the delights of the mission. And so, when prompted by a coworker to try his favorite burrito spot, La Tapatia, I had no choice but to visit.The eye-catching exterior of La Tapatia betrays what lies within. The interior is reminiscent of my childhood: Utilitarian, Latin, whatever works, bags of tortillas piled up in any old spot, regardless of customer visibility. Not necessarily a bad thing, theyve got nothing to hide and I was soon to find out why.I would rank the Carne Asada burrito here above La Taqueria of the mission, above Taqueria San Bruno, and above anything else local. Its simple, its massive, and the flavor (the most important part imo) is absolutely spot on.A fantastic burrito.

They will custom make your burrito exactly the way you want it. Best mexican food near San Francisco. They also have a tasty and very spicy habenero hot sauce if you can take the heat. The market also fresh fruits and veggies, tortillas and other grocery items for sale. I used to work in South San Francisco and ate lunch here all the time. Almost every time I go to San Francisco, I try to stop buy and get a burrito. Their burritos are as good as anything that I have tried on Mission. If I stop and get a burrito when going to the City, I am usually full the rest of the day. This place is top notch. You gotta give them a try. If you love Mex, you wont regret it.

I would recommend super burritos with any meat and carnitas by the pound. They are consistently good and have never dropped in quality. Service is fast and helpful. The only issue here would be parking on Grand Ave, but if you have someone drive you, they can just circle back and pick you up. This place is delicious!

Superbowl Sunday. I want some Nachos! Ive been coming to La Tapia for 10 years and have been coming in once every 2 weeks. Why? To buy half a pint of guacamole and half a pint of their Pico the gallo! The guacamole is so fresh and creamy. The Pico de Gallo has the right amount of kick and not too spicy. Put both of these on nachos or tacos! I also like to get 1 lb of their delicious carnitas. I usually eat half a pound for one meal and save the other half in the freezer. They also have a full tacqueria where you can buy burritos, tacos, quesedillas! Once in a blue moon Ill come early in the morning just to buy their breakfast burrito w/ chorizo and eggs! They also sell all types of tortillas and Mexican goodies and drinks. Metered parking around and CASH ONLY

The food is always good, we have catered from this place twice already and even though its a little pricey its worth the money not to mention the portions for catering are great and receive more than requested which is always a plus. At least thats how its been for me. The only thing i would say can be out the way is, its a cash only place so one who doesnt ever carry cash, like me, can be an inconvenience. But if you plan ahead n remember its cash only then their shouldnt be a problem.

The best place in SSF for down home good Mexican food. This is food to go. There is no inside dining. Bring cash & your appetite. There is meter street parking. You might have to drive around a bit especially around lunchtime. But be patient La Tapatia is worth it! My family and I have been shopping there for mucho years.It was alittle chaoticbecause it was the 22nd of Dec.I was there to pick up 10lbs of Maza and 54 Corn Husk to make Tamales.My tradition for making tamales is on the 24th,Xmas Eve.They have everything one needs to make delicious Mexican dishes.The service was fast, even tho it was crowded. I still have to give this place 5 stars even though Christmas eve was a mess of crowded people. Lines were confusing and with so many people in a tiny place that was a recipe for disaster. If you are unsure about any ask questions to workers not fellow customers. I asked a customer a question and ended up waiting 10 min for nothing. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The masa here for tamales is top notch 👌. All the food is amazing and quality products you wont find at a regular grocery store.

I am so glad that its far away from my home, otherwise I will be there every day. 2. Be careful to order their super burritos. Its so big is actually 2 peoples meal. People with small appetite, order at your own risk. 3. One of the few places CASH ONLY. 4. All food freshly made, same as their chips and tortillas. 5. Avoid peak lunch hour if you can. Fresh Ingredients, perfect service, fast, if you enjoy a burrito like I do, do not hesitate to come here. My first time visiting in San Francisco and I was actually at the Dollar Tree and the customer front of me and the cashier had told me this is a must go to place to have carnitas. And they did not let me down. The food here is delicious . I must visit here again if Im ever in town. Its off metered parking in front of this establishment and beware meter maids are always running. The little shop itself was nothing big but the flavors were huge. You must try it if you havent yet.

I might be a little biased, because Ive been going here since my teens. There really isnt anything special about this little mexican grocery/deli counter as there are tons of other places that run a similar operation. HOWEVER, what makes this place special is that it is family owned and has been part of the community forever. Everyone that plays a part in this store has always be helpful, positive, and just adds to the joy of shopping here. The food is pretty good and also they sell everything for pick up if you want to throw a party and want taqueria style food.Is the food destination worthy? This place has huge, tasty burritos with all the fixings. They make their ingredients fresh, right there on the premises. Buy a dozen fresh corn tortillas for 60 cents, still warm from the tortilla factory in the back of the building, and turn your burrito into two meals of soft tacos. Since I moved into the area a couple months ago, she had been urging me to check this place out. Well, I finally came in to see what she was talking about. I was surprised to find it busy for 4pm on a Thursday.I picked up their Casera homemade salsa, Ranchero Salsa, homemade chips, and Tortillas. Wow, those salsas are spicy! I thought I was getting their more mild salsas, but wow. Very flavorful, super delicious, but more spicy than I expected.I heated up the tortillas in the cast iron and oh boy! I am hesitant to share my thoughts on this Taqueria as its a fave and its already crazy busy as it is. My mom and I stopped by to pick up a lb of carnitas (very good) at a very reasonable price, and a pint of refried beans, a pint of pico de gallo and a dozen house made corn tortillas. Total was $22 and change and thats with tax. There was a socially distanced line out the door, and the only allow so many inside at any given time, but we arrived at the line at 3pm (approx 6 ppl in front of us) and we were walking back out the door at 3:14pm. This Taqueria also has a grocery store with an Incredible selection of Mexican ingredients and snacks, etc. Theyve been around for a long time and they have great food. They also cater and sell trays of food that you can come pick up. Ok. I shared one of my faves....dont make me regret this....lol.

Got some food for my Sons Baptism. Picked it up in the morning and it stayed hot in the box I barrowed until we took it out around 2pm. The box they offer is a $100 deposit but well worth it. Brought the box back the next day and got my cash deposit back no questions asked. Male sure you have cash or check they dont seem to take credit cards. When you pick up larger order you have to drive around back and they will load it up for you.

Came here for lunch, and picked up 3 tacos. They were huge! Wow I really didnt need to get 3, but it was definitely worth $2.55 each.The first one was suppose to be Al Pastor, but I think they made a mistake and gave me Carnitas instead. It wasnt bad. Since the pork skin was already so crunchy, the crisp lettuce only competed with the porks texture and didnt add anything.I thought the best taco was the last one with Chorizo. I was a little confused at first because there wasnt any of that signature orange grease. The texture was drier and harder than what youd normally get from other Mexican places, but it had an aged/cured flavor to it that intensified the sweet pork and hot spices. It was more like a European style chorizo. Delicious!

There are many more famous Mexican taquerias in the city and you probably wont find La Tapatia on any food guides for the Bay Area, but this small shop along Grand Avenue is my familys go-to for burritos, rice, beans, guacamole, chips, and salsa. Dont forget the plantains! They sell a variety of food items in addition to burritos. I recommend the supreme carnitas burritos, no lettuce or salsa so it doesnt get too soggy if you want leftovers. Their refried beans and Mexican rice are delicious and flavorful as well. You cant go wrong with their house made chips and dip. I grew up growing to La Tapatia and will always call it my favorite in the Bay!
