Great hotel, the only one right on the ocean in La Jolla! Had a wonderful stay. Rooms are modern and very big. Nice size deck to sit out. Oceanfront rooms are the best. Walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend and would definitely go back!

Stayed one night for a date night. Beautiful location! The rooms are clean and open with a comfortable bed. The view from our room was lovely as well. Service was great as well. Would definitely come back.

Im staying at this hotel for the week. Im very frustrated by their service and their attitude. I paid parking in their garage. But tonight I found there was no parking when I got back to the hotel. I called the front desk for help. The guy on the other side of the phone simply said We are sharing the parking with the restaurant. We only have one garage. You can find somewhere else to park for tonight. I was shocked by how this was handled. So I asked if I could use the handicap parking for tonight. He responded youll get a ticket to park in it without a certificate. After a couple back and forth, I got very disappointed by his attitude and how unwilling their customer service is to help their guests. The worst part is, he hang up on me. In the call, I showed respect the whole time, and not used any disrespectful manner. But I was shocked by the customer service just hang up and phone, and the degree of carelessness they show to upset customers.The room service never refilled the coffee bags when I didnt ask. the reality is I was outside all day. when I got back to the hotel, there was no coffee. Very disappointed. They charge a resort fee per day, because its mandated. Well, its service does not deserve the resort fee. Ill never come to this hotel again.the location of the hotel is right beside the beach. if you are all self-help, and dont care about the service, its probably ok. Watch out for the parking fee. Even when you prepaid the parking fee, youll not be guaranteed a parking spot. It reflects the low reliability of management and the low quality in incident response. And when you try to seek help, youll not get it.

The La Jolla Shores Hotel is our go to place to visit our daughter at UCSD. On this particular visit for her graduation, we had the pleasure of meeting Monty Cantero, who is the guest service manager. Monty really knew how to take care of us. I highly recommend this hotel. I also recommend the restaurant.

We had a wedding party stay here in January. The hotel is run down, tiles missing in bathroom, some of our party had floods in their rooms, and some of our party checked in and had to leave due to numerous problems with the room. It is not worth the price we paid for, even though we got discounted rates. The location is nice on the beach, but I would never stay here again. It also has many areas being renovated, and we were not told of this prior to checking in. If you like renovation work being done while you are on vacation go for it.

Rooms are outdated, jacuzzi isn’t working due to construction, no microwave in the room, parking is expensive and the restaurant made our order wrong. This was probably a really nice place 15 years ago. On a positive note, the staff was great. The only thing really going for this place is the location.

Absolutely horrible hotel. We checked in and checked right back out 10 minutes later. For $409 a night, a complete rip off. We wanted to end our vacation at a beach front hotel, so we got the beach front room with balcony and it was the worst experience.This is a MOTEL. The doors to the rooms are all outside with no security procedures in place. The elevator smelled like really stale urine, Im not even joking. The rooms are really outdated. No outlets by the bed, coats and coats of paint on the walls, extremely rusty AC units. Some kind of rusted cap on something on the wall in the bathroom. The balcony we got with the room was dirty and I was not comfortable walking out there with no shoes.Really really dusty and musty room. My allergies flared up instantly, and I had red itchy eyes that lasted a full day even after only being in the room for 10 minutes.They made us sign something when we arrived, which Ive never had to sign anything at a hotel.We luckily were able to get a full refund, which was the only good thing to come out of this.Absolutely worst hotel with the most ripped off pricing. We stayed at way better updated hotels for less than half the price this place wanted. The only thing this place has going for it is the beach front.Do not recommend.

Well, how to best sum up this below average experience? Came for 4 nights, booked a king coastline view room for $450/ night (all in with fees and resort daily fee). Thats not a small amount of money. Was allocated room 133, ground floor at the side of the block. View faced onto the public toilets on the busy, noisy public beach access road. Balcony had chest high solid walls, so no view whilst sitting down. To see the coastline view we needed to stand up in the far corner of the balcony. Totally not worth the premium rate & shouldnt be sold as such. Room itself was large with a decent kitchenette. Bathroom is old but functional. Unfortunately there were a few areas of ant infestation, not very pleasant. Sleep was near impossible thanks to an uncovered window above the entry doorway which shone bright light through all night. This room is also right next to the outdoor restaurant area. A wedding on our second night held in this area pumped incredibly loud DJ music until 10pm, then remaining guests continued the noise until 11. Not ok. Dont expect sound insulation - upstairs noise also came through continuously. Pool area is dated with messy areas, and not cleaned that much so watch out for stepping in discarded food. Had unpleasant experience trying to get a table for a drink in their beach front patio area, staff instructing to fetch my own drink and seat myself. Then I was kicked off my table by another staff, drink in hand. Totally unnecessary. Requested a late check out, told they dont offer that as hotel policy. What was good? Location- right on beach, close to town and 30min walk to La Jolla village. Not worth what we paid, but maybe a cheaper room would be ok.

It is in the best location of La Jolla . It is right by the dream beach. It is very close to everything that anyone may need. Hotel is large and it has a beautiful energy. Rooms are very large rooms.They people who works are positive. It is the only hotel that I would stay in La Jolla. Rooms and hotel is not very luxury but, still it is the best hotel of La Jolla because of its location, view and there are many places that one can sit and enjoy his holiday. Jakuzi is great.

Very disappointing for the price. I’ve stayed at a lot of nicer beachfront hotels in the San Diego area, and I would not recommend this one.The Good: Location right on a beautiful part of the beach at La Jolla. Easy access for swimming, snorkeling, kayak, SUP etc. Friendly staff. Good in room dining from the Shores restaurant.Room for Improvement: Everything else. The facilities were extremely dated. Room was dingy with kind of gross carpet. Old coffee maker w low quality filter packs. Elevators smelled like a high school gym locker room. Only one ice machine in the whole facility was functioning and was on the complete opposite side of the resort and two floors down. We walked on the beach and left our sandy shoes outside the door of our third floor room so as not to dirty the room. They were gone the next morning. There is no shop or other place to buy small items like sunscreen and toothpaste. There is a bodega like 2 min walk away. Asked for 12 pm checkout and was offered 11:30 which just seems petty. For the price, I was definitely not satisfied with the experience.

Nice hotel with rooms that have great views of the ocean. Our room was on the first floor facing the ocean and it was great! The room was clean and you can choose if you want your linen changed daily. The front desk was helpful answering our questions. The local free shuttle service was super handy to get us to nearby locations. If you have your own car there is limited street parking and the hotel garage parking is $35 per day.

For the price, look else where. Booked this place for our first wedding anniversary and was pretty disappointed. For the money it wasn’t worth it. Got in about 8pm Friday night with plans for Saturday morning, go to shower at 7am and the shower didn’t work. With promises of an upgraded room or a discount I had to go to the front desk and figure out what was going on before they fixed it. Then got offered free parking and free resort fees. Wouldn’t even give us the value of what we had to cancel because we couldn’t even shower in time. When they fixed the shower they put the hot and cold backwards on top of it. They didn’t care that we had to miss our first booked appointment that cost more than what they offered. The Shores restaurant was amazing the first night, second night the service was complete garbage. Clearly 2 different chefs too, food wasn’t the same night to night. First time I have ever left a $0 tip in my life. The ice machines don’t work and you have to find one that barely does work, the bathrooms and the elevators smell like dirty high school locker rooms. Don’t let the resort style entrance fool you, it’s a La Quinta on the water. The rooms were outdated in the 90’s with the carpeting and the bathroom and shower faucets. For $600 a night find another place that’s worth it. I wish I would have. Long story short: Outdated, bad service, smells bad, embarrassing if you are trying to surprise someone. Location on the water, it’s a prime spot. They need a renovation and management change.

Customer service? You wont find it here!! If you cancel your reservation, you can kiss your deposit good-bye, regardless of the reason! We booked a 4-night stay at La Jolla Shores Hotel for August 2023 and paid the required $800+ deposit. Three days before out scheduled arrival, Hurricane Hilary, at that point a Category 4 storm, was forecast to come ashore at San Diego/La Jolla as we were to arrive. Left to risk spending thousands of dollars to fly across the country to only hold up in a hotel room as a hurricane passed through, we called to cancel our reservation. Unlike the cancelled airline flights and two dinner reservations we booked, all of which refunded our money without question or quibble, La Jolla Shores Hotel said we would lose our deposit since we cancelled within their 7-day no-cancellation window. Could the hotel guarantee we would not be flooded? Could they guarantee we would have electricity, food, water during our stay? Well No, but they would be happy to give us a one-time courtesy rebooking and apply our $800+ deposit to that stay, should we choose to do that, AS IF we were flippantly changing our mind!! Left with little choice, while still on the phone we quickly rebooked a 5-night stay for November. Unfortunately we later had to cancel that reservation due to scheduling conflicts, which we did well outside the 7-day window. Upon making that call we were told the hotel would be keeping our deposit since we had been given a previous courtesy rebooking opportunity. May we speak with you manager? Just a moment, please, Ill check. Im sorry, the manager is busy and will have to call you back. It may be tomorrow or the next day. Five days later. Crickets. The sound of silence. There are lots of nice places to stay in La Jolla. You would be well advised to look elsewhere. Someplace that values their reputation for customer service.

The view was spectacular BUT for the nightly price the rooms were a bit on the old side. While the beach service was very convenient, and all of the staff very accomodating, all of the additional fees add up and were extravagant. We had dinner one night and our server, Jesse, was outstanding but the food was not worth the price. At a price of $39 for ribeye I was expecting a beautiful steak. Unfortunately, the steak was an inferior. Ive gotten better cuts at the supermarket. Also, if you spend over $500 a night I should not have to pay for parking at $35. Again, what you are paying for is the view and closeness to the beach as for the hotel itself I feel it was average.

The hotel is dated but you cannot beat the location. My room was not great, very basic and dated but thankfully I didn’t spend much time in the room. Amazing beach front location with a restaurant and bar and a pool. There is a park next door to the hotel and you can walk to find anything you need from food to things you forgot to pack.

If what you’re looking for is location then La Jolla Shores is for you. Proximity to ocean/beach 5/5. Great sunsetsService is adequate with front desk staff answering questions re local restaurants, use of shuttle etc. Staff getting beach chairs and umbrellas were prompt and helpful.However, this potential gem falls short in rooms and facilities. Hotel rooms are in desperate need of upgrading and repair. From paint chipping off balcony boards, dated and musty rooms to general aesthetic appearance.Could be a 5 star but struggling to maintain a 3 star.

If you care about beach access then the location is simply unmatched by any other hotel in La Jolla village or cove.It is only made better with the amazing service and help provided by the manager, Mr Monty. We have been coming to La Jolla shores hotel for years but this last visit stands out because of Mr Monty. You cannot find a better spot to stay than here. The location is the best. The restaurant/bar/café has a great selection. The rooms are very comfortable, they have a very beach / bungalow feel to them. The staff is super friendly. Parking underground is very convenient. I’ve been here more than once and absolutely love it.I highly recommend the ceviche, their pizzas, and the Michelada. Oh and don’t forget the camera, the sunsets here are incredible.

Lovely location and great service! With this location, many restaurants are within walking distance and of course the beach is right there! Really enjoy the stays here Ive had over the years. I would hope they renovate the rooms/property soon though. The ACs were a bit noisy. The property looks a bit dated, and can use a little modernization in my opinion. Highly recommend getting an ocean view room if money allows for it. Youll feel like a bit of royalty looking down at your underlings :p

Josh at the ocean side bar and restaurant was the most genuine, and attentive server I have yet to come across while touring La Jolla. He made incredible cocktails and had a host of information to share with any question I had of the area. He had fresh silverware before I could ask for it. This place is fantastic. If you have little kids, this is the place to go. It sits right next to the beach and a playground. The staff was extremely polite, great house keeping service and a lot of amenities. Bottled water at the front desk, parking (have to pay for) is easy to access, free shuttle within 5 miles of town, the rooms were clean and did not seem out of date to me. We had a third floor shoreline view and the room had vaulted ceilings and a wonderful view of the beach and playground. The non kitchen rooms have a safe, fridge and small coffee maker and the kitchenette rooms have a little range, sink, small set of plates and paper towels on top of the fridge and coffee maker. For being full, I never felt the hotel was busy and crowded. The architecture and design is fun! The restaurant on site is okay, fine for a quick bite on the patio. Lots of restaurants within less than a block of walking even with a 2 yr old. We will be back.

For the price, you will be disappointed. Front desk is not the friendliest. Restaurant is very limited. Coffee in the morning is $6 a cup (free from 7-9 am but they don’t mention that). My husband and l arrived on Sunday May 7th 2023 about 3:15. We knew we were early, but went ahead and checked with the desk. We were greeted by a young lady named Rayne. She was so friendly and when we gave her our name, she indicated the room wasnt quite ready and it would be about 15 minutes. She offered use a drink coupon for the bar and we told her that would be a great start to celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. She checked us in and we went to the bar and ordered a drink. The view was amazing. After about 10 minutes, Rayne found us to let us know our room was ready and in celebration of our Anniversary something was going to be sent up to our room. She is a credit to your hotel staff and we feel she went above and beyond by giving us great customer service. We stayed in an ocean full view room. The room was very clean and spacious. As others have indicated in their reviews, the hotel is dated, but we have no complaints about the accommodations. The ocean view from our balcony outstanding. The hotel is situated very close to many restaurants you can walk to in a few minutes. The beach easily accessible and you walk straight out of the hotel to on the beach. The only negatives, apparently the city is doing drain improvements, so every morning starting at 7 or so and lasting until 3 the loud pumps were going non stop. The signs indicate they will be working on these until 12-31-2023, so if you stay on the side connected to the street expect the noise. After 3 it was quite and the ocean waves can be heard inside your room and that was great. The sound proofing between rooms isnt as good as newer hotels, so you could hear muffled conversation. Other than that Id give our stay a very high mark. This beach access is great for smaller kids. The kayak companies launch from in front of this hotel, so all day long you have groups of kayakers paddling out to sea in front of you. They didnt bother us at all.

There is a shuttle that will go 5mi if it is working, so be sure to check, Larry is the driver and hes so kind. The hot tub is great and very chill space.

Beautiful setting and convenient location for UCSD and other research centers. Restaurant/bar has amazing view of the ocean. Saw a group of dolphins playing while I ate breakfast. Although dated, the place has a lot of charm, like a 70’s beach resort. Negatives are (1) terrible wifi; the signal kept dropping so I had to log in every 5 min or so; reminded me of how hotel wifi was in the old days; (2) my room was surprisingly cold (granted, in February) and the one heater was noisy and cycled on and off all night, making it hard to sleep.

I paid about $600 (with all the hidden fees) for a Sunday night stay. The hotel is very old. Shower doesn’t work properly. Sinks are clogged. The pictures are all fake. Pool is too small. There is a public park right on one side of the hotel and a public street that goes to the same beach right on the other side of the hotel. So, you are 100% better off to access the beach through one of the two and enjoy everything the hotel’s clients are enjoying. Then go back to your motel 6 or something to sleep and enjoy the same experience, only $400 less a night!

Spent my Bday weekend here. The rooms are old and a bit dated. But being directly on the beach and walking distance to great eateries it was great. The hot Tub is super small for such a big place. I didn’t eat at the restaurant, but the drinks were great and the average expensive price as everything is right now.The charges a “Resort fee!” That was mandatory so it’s an expensive place to stay if you include parking as well.

Wanted to surprise my wife on our 5500 mile long trip and I was in for a surprise I didnt ask for:1. Location is great (but you can get another Hotel at much better rate and just drive to the same beach since is not private beach.2. $600 / NIGHT I have never stayed in worst place for the money! check in Sep 2nd - Sep 3rd 2023. Very tiered old rundown place feels more like homeless shelter than a hotel. Rooms are clean AC didnt work in our $600 /night ocean view room-1433. We ate in their restaurant who was 30% (occupied at the most)@ dinner time, and that tells you something, but I didnt listen to my senses and experience, drinks came fast, after 45min no one asked us to order food, so I went up to them and ordered the Marlin and tacos,,, oh boy everything was frozen just warmed up meals from Costco!Do NOT waste your time and money visiting this rundown place, paint is pealing off everywhere, posts are all rotten and ready to break!! LOL I still cant believe I payed $600 for this ..I just hope this will help just one person to NOT make same mistake as I did.

Three star hotel is a huge reach. This place is pretty much a dump. The beach in front of the hotel is dirty and littered with trash and debris and burned wood. The crowd that gathers there everyday is crazy due to the kayak meetups at the same beach. They advertise free coffee for a certain time period every day which is a lie they only put it out for 20 minutes and do not refill. I wasn’t able to get coffee once the entire week I stayed there (and at $500 a night you could at least give me free coffee. Will never go back to this dump should’ve stayed on Coronado island which is much much nicer area and beach.

Theres a fence from their building all the way into the water so wealthy white guests can be isolated from the public beach. Its an abomination. This is not how California runs its beaches. The sand and ocean belongs to everyone. I am aghast that this fence was city approved. Shame on this hotel. Shame on the city for allowing this fence. Most of the staff here are also amazing, and I didnt encounter any unpleasant feelings.However, the room is really outdated. I could only find a couple of available outlets in the bedroom, and both of them were so loose that I couldnt properly charge my devices. The furnitures and bathroom are also quite outdated. The AC needs cleaning as well. After turning it on, the room started to smell stenchy. In addition, the AC doesnt really take care of the humidity within the room.All in all, the location and services are really great, but the room is not worth the price and feels like a two star hotels room. Overall not worth the price.

This is a great hotel. I live in the area so Ive never stayed there, but friends have and say its great, and I have snuck into their pool multiple times, and have to agree. The location is great, both next to the beach and plenty of good restaurants. The pool is heated and they also have a hot tub and free snow cones sometimes. The employees are nice, even when they are kicking you out when youre not supposed to be there. Also, they let us keep our snow cones when they did.

Beach Access-And Not Much ElseI usually start with “The Good” and then list the “Not So Good”. Our experience makes this a challenge. First of all the web photos are misleading. They may have rooms that look like the ones pictured, but they are not the standard for all rooms. There is a cramped parking garage, but there is a daily parking fee. $$Our first room was little better than a dirty, dingy Motel 6. $400 a night.$$$The second room (we were upgraded because the first room was full of bugs) was adequate. It boasted a “coastal view”. Yes, you can see the coast-over the tops of the row of portable toilets.There is no breakfast service Monday through Friday, only “Grab and Go” which is $$ not cheap but poorly produced. One individual young lady was handling all of the frustrated guests that discovered (one-by-one) that there is no dining room service for breakfast. She was handling all questions, taking all orders for Grab and Go, and preparing ALL THE FOOD AND DRINKS! One person! Post pandemic staffing problems to be sure, but poorly communicated as witnessed by confused hotel guests wandering around asking questions.The front desk staff was a mixed bag. Not the children’s fault, but if you’re looking for a charming, tranquil seaside vacation this is not it.The hotel itself was built in 1970 and is in disrepair. Rain on Monday revealed several roof leaks that were accommodated by plastic buckets catching the water. Seating in the garden area was dirty and in disrepair, torn cushions, bird poop and stains.And the “icing” on the cake was a backed up sink that reeked of sewage.All in all a big disappointment.Two stars because of the proximity to the beach, and the two staff members that we encountered who tried to go above and beyond. Unfortunately they couldn’t overcome the multiple deficiencies.Cannot Recommend

We had a room with a coastal view, and it was worth the extra money (the view from the stormy photo). I really enjoyed my brief visit to this hotel. The Validated parking and underground garage was vary convenient. I enjoyed sitting by the pool and playing mini golf with my niece. I highly recommend the Scallop and Shrimp Macn Cheese (Phenomenal...so so good) at the in hotel restaurant. They had a bar with a good view of the beach and of the paddle boarders. Currently staying here on the last day of my birthday vacation. The room is pretty clean and the location is fantastic, but there have been little flying bugs hanging around the whole time weve been here and the walls are paper thin. I mean PAPER thin.There were people outside being loud during the later hours most nights, so it was difficult for my son and I to sleep. Cant say enough good things about this place. Its literally on the beach and right next to a city park with a playground. A shopping district with several restaurants is only two blocks away. The pool area, bar/restaurant, and courtyard (complete with ping pong tables and games) was all kept clean and was quiet at night. The staff were friendly and the rates were about what youd pay elsewhere farther away from the ocean. The entire place is just a bit dated, but its all clean and well kept so thats not a problem. If you go, dont pay for onsite parking as parking around the nearby neighborhood is free and easy.

Im getting ready to sleep with the ocean outside my window and I am already beyond words about this place. I mentioned it was my anniversary and the staff sent a bottle of wine to my room. The culture of this place is exactly what I needed to unwind and clear my head to be more productive while being relaxed. Its not steel and concrete...it has truly a comfortable feel that allows you to unplug. The rooms are nice...not hotel like and just what I needed. But the customer service from this staff is beyond 5 stars. Its the little things that make a stay memorable and Im impressed with how everyone has made us feel like we are regulars at this place on our first day. Whoever is in charge of ensuring the customer feels appreciated should be awarded because they made this customer feel right at home. Now Im going to go to bed with the sound of the ocean outside my door...and thats exactly what the doctor ordered.

When staying at this hotel you are paying for location which is incredible. The staff is also very attentive. Sadly, the owners are clearly not committed to the hotel. It is poorly maintained. They should not have a gym if all they are going to do is have a tiny room of rarely cared for machines and free weights with some missing. Also, it looked like it hadnt been cleaned in months. In my room I had engineering fix two things upon arrival. When I noted the safe was broken they noted it was the third one that day. When I left I gave them a list of 9 other things that should be fixed in the room. The decor is drab and old. The issue is that this is supposed to be a high end hotel and I paid quite a bit for my night there. Had this been a 1 or 2 star hotel everything would just be as expected, but for what I paid, there was no value. The owners need to either do their jobs and maintain the hotel or sell this beautifully located hotel to somebody who will make this hotel what it can be.

We stayed at the La Jolla Shores Hotel for 6 nights. We have been spending a week at this property during the summer for the past 10 years. I understand some of the not so positive feedback from other reviews. However, from our previous experience as a family with kids this property offers the best and gets the highest marks for the different activities available for a family vacation. We love the security of the property, and the outstanding staff top the list. Yes, the property is dated; however, the location makes up for it all. Walk out of the room and step into the sand! The Beach Services staff (McKenzie, Kaleb, Jacob, Matt, and sorry if I missed others) do a great job of making sure the beach experience is fun and comfortable. The rest of the staff lead by the GM, Chuck Merriman, are accommodating and quick to take care of any issues.Our extended family decided to try our summer getaway spot this year, and everyone was happy. Nothing beats a run to the beach after a day visiting the many San Diego area attractions. As a business owner, I understand first-hand the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic. Struggles with staffing and supplies are a daily challenge, and I believe the same situation exists for most businesses. Given the situation, our experience was great as we believe the management and staff have done a great job to improvise and do their best given the circumstances. The location of this hotel was amazing. It was right on the beach. Unfortunately the rooms we booked were not available. We wanted an ocean view and were given a costal view. Our costal view consisted of a tiny corner of the ocean. So we made a last minute decision to book this place for the weekend and it was awesome!I read quiet a few reviews before booking and saw some mixed ones. Heres my experience;The rooms arent the highest quality for what you pay for but had most of the amenities I would want. Decent size TV, a good size mini fridge (able to hold more than 2-3 cans/bottles), and nice beds. For the price of the room, it could look nicer, but its hard to be picky when your right on the ocean.The hotel has great customer service. They give you chairs, umbrellas, and beach towels for the beach which is nice so you dont have to lug all of your own stuff out if you dont want. They have a desk stationed on the boardwalk with hotel staff ready to help you with anything! We ate at the Shores Restaurant a couple different times and didnt have any issues. The service was good as well as the food. It wasnt the best food ever, but it was good enough to go back.We parked the car in the garage ($28/day) and didnt move it all weekend. This was the best part as anybody knows dealing with traffic, especially close to the beach, can be a hassle and sometimes frustrating. Being able to walk to everything we wanted to do/eat/see all from this hotel was a huge benefit. We wanted more of a relaxed weekend on the beach, not really going out to see anything, so this place was perfect.The beach was busy (as to be expected this time of year), but didnt have a lot of seaweed per say like Mission Beach does for example. The hotel also offers activities you can sign up for like paddle boarding, kayaking, etc. We have this on the list for the next visit.On the final morning, checkout wasnt until 12pm so we were able to sit on the beach for a short bit before leaving and had the opportunity to see some dolphins only a couple hundred feet from shore! Keep in mind, this was right out back of the hotel on the beach, and were sitting in launch chairs watching the waves and had a few glimpses of them coming out of the water.This is the only hotel Ive ever reviewed like this and this will be our go to spot when visiting San Diego in the future.Thank you La Jolla Shores Hotel!

Amazing location! After reading reviews with this company, I decided to book a weekend getaway with my son. Upon arrival, the check in process went very smoothly and the front desk associate was very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately, we experienced atrocious service and mistreatment in the hotel resteraunt. The inadequate waitress made us feel very unwelcomed upon mutiple instances such as poor knowledge towards certain items and poor time management. As I brought this up to the front desk manager, his apology did not meet up to company standards. They could have gone above and beyond La Jolla Shores Hotel customer service expectations but failed to do so. Im very dissapointed. My recommendation would be to skip the resteraunt all together.

It has a nie view of the ocean if you get a sea side room. The hotel rooms are quite magnificent and come with mini-fridges. A safe if you need one. Hair dryer and a mini-coffee maker good for 5 cups. They do lack a bar of soap for the shower but had least 2 bottles of conditioner, shampoo, and body wash.They do have the The Shore restaurant. Which isnt the best. 1 out of 3 orders were wrong. A cherry danish instead of apple. They also cold smoke there samon. So be ready for that. What hurt my soul and wallet was the pricing. 17$ for any breakfast plate, 5$for a cup of coffee but i hope free refills. There are plenty of places to eat sooo i would suggsst going to other places instead of The Shore

5 stars for the location but like many of the other reviews I felt like the rooms were pretty dated for the price. I also felt a bit mislead by the “coastline view” rooms. It was not clear as to where these rooms were located.Lastly what really brought it down for me was the lack of any sort of concession center to pick up water or snacks. We arrived late at night and wanted to get a few bottles of water. They directed us to a sketchy vending machine in the basement that was of course sold out. Seemed odd for a hotel of this price.

Very nice team and facilities at this hotel. Undergoing an update, but the 1st and 2nd floor rooms are all refreshed and very nice. 3rd floor refresh is coming soon. We had an issue that maintenance couldnt address on our first night, and the staff was very accommodating with relocating us to a 2nd floor room for the rest of the stay. All and all one of the best hotels my family of five (2 adults, 15, 13 and 11 year old kids) has had a holiday at.

I am trying to change my reservation and cannot even get someone on the phone. Every time I call the 855 number listed and says I am reaching them after hours and need to leave a message even though I have been calling between 8-5 on a Tuesday. When I finally got someone on the phone by calling a roundabout way I was transferred 3 times then just sent back to their answering service. TERRIBLE customer service. Safe and quiet area with literally million dollar homes around u. Staff was extremely nice and pleasant. Hotel was built in 1970 so its a bit older, the grounds were very clean and well maintained. My room was very nice jus bring ur own pillow, ours were pretty flat. Parking garage was under the hotel so thats pretty convenient. The provide chairs and umbrellas for on the beach all u gotta do is call the desk and let them know. Shops with pizza,yogurt,breakfast,drinks are all within a sweet 100yd stroll. Defenitley recommend staying here location cant be beat.

This hotel is situated right by the number one hotspot for leopard sharks during summer months. The sharks swim literally hundreds of feet from the hotel, as do guitar fish, rays, and sea bass. I live in San Diego but I spend lots of time freediving in front of the hotel and have always loved the aesthetic.

The hotel was nice and the beach access was great, but the one star is because the bathroom door was broken and I was locked in there for 20 minutes. Luckily I was able to yell through the door at my phone and have Siri call my son for help. This happens, would probably still give it 4 stars at this point.When I called the front desk to have it fixed, the woman that answered laughed and didn’t express any type of concern.The next day at check out, I mentioned it to the front desk clerk, and it happened to be the same person. Again she chuckled and offered a discount on one day of parking.1. That was insulting, like $28 is really going to make a difference on that $900+ bill2. The evening we had dinner at the shores in La Jolla the patio where the beach and ocean could be viewed was occupied. From the garden patio the beach could not be viewed the plants, humidity, breeze all reminded me of Hawaiian gardens. Not kid friendlyMy husband, three young kids and I showed up at this hotel after spending three days at Disneyland. We were dirty. We were tired. My three year old was sick and crying. We got stuck in traffic and we just wanted a room to go to bed in. Our room was mysteriously not ready at 7 pm when we checked in. The clerk was visibly disgusted by us and mentioned several times how much things cost... As though he expected we wouldnt be able to pay. When we got to our room, it was gross. There were literally brown spots on the white comforter- right on top of the bed. The beds were crumpled, it looked like someone had been in our room before us and switched rooms and the bedding hadnt been changed. The carpets were deep down dirty. The room overall was the level of grossness you expect from a cheap roadside motel, not a beachfront property in La Jolla that charges $20 a night for parking.I called to complain about the bedding and they sent someone up to change it on one bed. Then- when I went to bed after all my kids were finally asleep I realized all the bedding was feather. I should have checked. I had requested no feathers when I booked the room-but obviously they failed there too. I couldnt get new bedding without waking my kids, so I spent the night sucking on cough drops trying to calm my allergies so I didnt cough all night wake up my sick kid. Really, really not impressed.Construction noise starting at 7 am on Saturday morning literally ten feet outside our door. It was incredibly loud, and obviously woke everyone up. The noise was loud enough we had to actually leave the room- you couldnt stand to be in it. The clerk certainly never warned us about that.On the night of our second stay, I killed a huge spider that crawled on my daughters pillow while she was sleeping.We actually did complain at one point about these issues -- they offered us a free breakfast in their fancy restaurant. I wasnt about to take my kids into their restaurant after the glares wed already received from the hotel staff.When we were leaving the hotel, it took the bellhop 45 minutes to come help us get our stuff. We asked the bellhop how long ago our call went through -- and he said he just heard about it 2 minutes earlier.The location is amazing. Right on the beach and blocks from great restaurants and shops. The beach is beautiful and the park next door to the hotel is great for kids. It is a shame the hotel is not kid friendly.

We brought the family down to La Jolla for a 5 day visit and the hotel was awesome! This is a family run business and the attitude of the staff reflects it from management staff to the custodial crew. I dare any large chain hotel to match La Jolla Shores Hotels attentiveness. Service is second to none! There are plenty of restaurants around the corner and in walking distance. A 3 mile walk or short Uber drive takes you down the road to the shopping center which is massive. I look forward to bringing the family again next summer.

Great beach, great restaurant overlooking the ocean (come at sunset), great open air patio cafe (come as you are), walking distance to other great restaurants (and the iconic sidewalk cafe, The Cottage, in town), short drive to great shopping and restaurants in La Jolla (dont miss the Warwick Bookstore), great views from the rooms, easy ten minutes drive to San Diego with all of its sights and activities, Birch Aquarium up the road a few blocks, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, beach casual in the Shores area, kayaking, snorkeling, boogie boarding, surfing (lessons available for all ages), or just rest and read on the beach (they furnish umbrellas and towels)or your private patio. We keep looking for a better venue with all of the above items and havent found one yet. With so much in one convenient location, the price is well worth it. Time is money too.

Nice little hotel that seemed to be sort of an antique -- there was a lot of construction during my stay but that was the city working on streets and drainage. The hotel has essentially beach front access and the restaurant overlooks the beach. Personally, I find beaches in this area ugly, the water cold, and overrated. For reference, we stayed in room 238 (2nd floor, on the beach).This place was comparable to a Motel 8!This by no means is this even a 2 star hotel. You are paying to be on the beach, that is it. You are not paying for amenities or luxury. Do not expect it here, you will not get it.I tried calling ahead asking for an early check in and they refused. They told me I had to be on property and ask in person. Ridiculous! It made it very difficult to plan my stay and pack food as I did not know if my food would go bad sitting in the car until our scheduled 4pm check in.The bed was so uncomfortable. We tossed and turned. I know why. We were being feasted on by bed bugs! What kind of a hotel is this?????The shower was awful. There is a much better flow from the showers at the beach!Or just stand under the Scripps Pier.There was no microwave in our room.The walls are very thin. I could hear the shower running in the room next to us (Room 237).There was a City of San Diego garbage truck that made ALOT OF NOISE at 4:40am. Woke my husband and I up. We were unable to comfortably go back to sleep as we did not know if it was going to come back. This MFer was sooooooooo loud. Look it up on youtube (beach garbage truck).This was probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. I booked it to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. I am so happy I only booked a night. I could not wait to go back home.I would never ever stay here again, even if I got a week free. This place is horrible. My wife and I just got married and had our reception here. The service from Kelly Z. in the preparations over a year and a half were beyond amazing. She was almost always willing to meet with us and always was willing to work around our hectic schedules. We just had our reception with them last night and the service received even blew the already high standards set by Kellys awesome service out of the water. The staff they have is absolutely the best. The team supervisor assigned to us that night saved us Hors DOeuvres that were passed around while we were taking post wedding photos, so that we could at least try them. We definitely would not recommend anybody else to do your wedding. They truly do their best to go above and beyond all of your expectations. If you are looking for a great venue and great service this is the place to do it.

Gave us a room right next to construction. Literally gave us the room closest to the construction and claimed all other beach view rooms were booked even though there is not a single light on in any other room in the hotel. Construction started promptly at 8am with chainsaws and caterpillars. Booked the room nearly two months ago and have been a customer since early 2000s and this is how you treat us? Called the front desk and they brought us two small bottles of water to make up for the $600 wasted on the hotel. Thank you guys so much! Management did nothing for us. For over $250/night this place is absolute garbage. Carpets are dirty and stained making me scared to even walk to the bathroom barefoot. Smells like someone took a giant turd before we entered the room every time and thats not even an exaggeration. This place is an absolute joke and a huge waste of money. Wouldnt recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Only come here if you want to completely waste your money. Essentially a motel 6 on the beach.Hotel offered to give us a free upgrade to a bigger room for our troubles for the second night and then charged us an extra 60 bucks when we checked out. We ate at the Shores restaurant and had a beautiful beach view during sunset. Service was fairly slow but decent. Food was pretty good. The mussels in Thai curry were amazing to start. This was the best dish we had here. Save your bread for dipping in the curry sauce. I ordered the salmon which was good, but wished I had told the server or hed asked how I like it cooked because it was a bit overcooked for my taste but was very good still. The quinoa it sat on was dull and served chilled and a bit undercooked. There was also a bit of greens and radishes the plate.... meh. He ordered the swordfish which came with a delicious pineapple relish and tasty but overcooked and mushy coconut red rice and some bok choy. Very good flavors. They could work on their technique some. The underground garage is available to restaurant guests and they validate for an hour. This hotel was in 1970 and the lower level containing Shores restaurant does not appear to have been changed much at all since. Beautiful view, quiet atmosphere, and friendly service almost make me want to give them another star, but....

Firstly, i want to note the location is superb and the staff is awesome. the beach amenities, like boogie boards and umbrellas are helpful.however, i have two concerns, one very serious. we checked in very late the first night and because we had a long day, everyone passed out. when i woke the next morning, i found i had a rash on my torso. im not allergic to any food but thought maybe it was seafood from the previous evening or new soap at the hotel. the rash got better during the day. we only returned to the room in the late evening. my children took off their shoes and their feet were very dark black after running around, which i had to wash off. everyone had very fretful sleep. i was itchy, my throat hurt, and my children were congested (but we didnt have colds). when i woke in the morning, my rash was inflamed and spreading. my arms and back were also developing rashes. i requested a change of sheets but realized this was due to mold. i took a close look at the room and there was mold on the curtains by the balcony, very dark spots all over the carpet. i didnt realize right away because we only go back to the room to sleep but we spent two 9 hour nights and the effects were taking a toll. the staff moved us to another room, no questions asked when i showed them my skin rash, with carpet which was replaced recently. my rash did not flame up, kids were not so congested at night. im disappointed to hear the room with moldy carpet was lent out that same evening, which is a big deal. black mold has serious health effects and if the carpet is affected, the walls and drywall may be moldy. the majority of people who stay at the hotel seem to be older couples or families with young children, who are more susceptible to black mold. we are back home and my children are still slightly congested but my throat is no longer sore. my firstborn had a bloody nose today and my second is still having some dry coughs (but less frequently). this never happens from traveling; as a military family, my children have been on flights atleast 10 times already, half the time overseas, and we are no strangers to hotel stays.my second issue is that soundproofing is pretty much zilch. you will hear everything from phone conversations, car doors being opened and closed, and the sweeping of the courtyard. it is mostly quiet from 10 pm to 7 am but it was a pain to hear the garbage truck in the morning, car locks beeping, and people talking as they walk by the front door. im sure our neighbors werent too happy as my kids arent exactly quiet. just something to note if you are a light sleeper.

Attended a buddies wedding and reception at this hotel. Wedding was in the sand on the beach just outside of the hotel and the reception was held in the hotel. Hotel was easy enough to find using GPS but parking is very limited and underground parking is very tight for larger vehicles.Did not stay in this hotel but everything else I saw and was involved in was done very well.

I went to the hotel for a prix fixe Valentines day meal. We had reservations. The meal was very nice, the wait staff very friendly. Their credit card machine wasnt working so they had to use paper slips to charge us manually.

Very nice hotel, directly next to the beach. My room was spacious and clean, and it overlooked the pool in the center of the hotel. I would definitely come back again, but for a vacation instead of business travel!

We have been staying at this hotel for a decade over Labor Day weekend, and they are always so accommodating! Is it a 5-star hotel? No... but, I give it a 5 star rating because of the memories made here, the location (so close to shops and restaurants), and the service! We will back!!

The bar food was delicious. The service was terrible. We had to ask multiple people for the same thing and still never got it. All the tables were dirty. Our server walked past us four times to get to the table behind us, but never stopped for us. Half way through, the manager helped out and things got a little better.

The beachfront setting is superb and the rooms are plenty big and each have their own small patio. The pool and spa were good as well and the beach right outside is extremely nice and offers great swimming.

Beautiful view of the ocean from the rooms. The hotel is right on the beach. The restaurant has the most amazing breakfast and the portions are very large. The rooms are a little dated but very clean.
