La Cabana has been around since the 60s and not much as changed there. Parking is easy and the service is pretty good.The food is traditional Mexican food and it is good, not great. They have the typical combo plates and they have a few nice desserts. Their drinks are good with a nice selection of call liquors.What is great about this place and sets it apart from other typical Mexican restaurants is that they make their own tortillas and they are always fresh, at times you need to wait a minute for someone to make them. They are always worth the wait.If you are in Venice, this is a good place to stop before or after the beach. If you are no where near it, the time is better spent elsewhere.They have take out and delivery as well.

This used to be my go to place for authentic Mexican food but somethings changed. My enchilada shells and shrimp inside were cold, when I notified the waiter they simply microwaved my plate?! Cant believe they didnt make a fresh one. Also the margarita used to be in a large glass and now in rocks size glass. So disappointing

We spent the day in Venice and were looking for a nice spot to eat some dinner. Let me tell you this place was so good we were a party of 12 6 adults six kids. It was our first time eating here and we were very satisfied. The waiters were very attentive before we could say we needed a refill they were bringing it. Food is authentic Mexican food and not Americanized which is what we wanted we ordered carnitas and barbacoa and Chile rellenos to the kids ordering cheeseburger taco dorados and taquitos plain. Definitely recommend and definitely will be again when we return to Venice. Which is like a 10 minute walk from the rose parking lot at the beach.

While down here from Canada on vacation, my wife and I came here strictly because this was my father in-laws favorite restaurant in the 70s when he lived in Santa Monica! And boy did it ever impress. The service was attentive and the staff were friendly. We came at lunch time and we got two lunch specials for $12.75 each. I got the beef tacos and my wife got the chicken enchiladas. Both plates came with beans and rice. Both plates were very filling. There was also complimentary chips that came prior to our meal arriving. This restaurant has been around since the early sixties, and we can see why. Its also open until 3:00am for those who are hungry for a late night meal.

Im not from California or southwest, so I may not be used to great Mexican food. But this is the best Mexican food Ive had, made better with great surroundings. The inside of the place has decor like a Mexican mansion with great tilework and theres an oven making fresh tortillas right in front of you.Drinks are mostly different kinds of margaritas, but they have a few generic beers in bottles. The salsa dip for the tortilla chips was fairly hot; it was great but just a heads up. All the food was good but order the full plates to get a real taste of what they offer.

We have been coming for years. I love the slow cooked meat plates. Carnitas, chili Colorado and chili verde are my favorites. The handmade tortillas are great too. I usually get a few meals out of one plate. Servers are always on top of everything. We usually find parking out front. They have an extensive quesadilla menu too

Came here for a private party in the patio area. The staff was AMAZING and very welcoming. The margaritas were sufficiently strong and tasty. The food was fresh and delicious. The decor was fun and there was even a live band that rotated throughout the restaurant. I really enjoyed my evening at La Cabana and would definitely come back again.

My husband and I have been coming here since 2001. His family has been coming here since all his siblings were small.It has been our romantic date place!Since the pandemic, things have changed a lot as far as usual menu items like steak picado.This was our dish, but they took it off the menu. The kids portions are large, which is good.We still enjoy the chips though, and we spread butter on them and dip in the chili sauce. Delicious. I could go just for chips and drinks.Their Cadillac Margarita used to come with a shot on the side, but they didnt do that the last time we visited.But, one thing has not changed...the flan! Still delicious and the recipe hasnt changed after all these years. Great service, with some of the waters being there for more than 20 years.

No nonsense Mexican institution with hand made in house tortillas which are out of this world. Servers are friendly and efficient and the maitre D is a legend. Margaritas are so good you won’t even notice them slip down until you stand up. Casa Vega level good. Classic interior decor and cozy outdoor patio dining options available. Food is solid and they’ll seat you late with no bother which is perfect for my eclectic schedule. Terrific.

I used to eat here regularly, when I lived a few miles away, so I had to stop by this weekend while in the area. The food is just as good as home cooked and the service is still as good as I remember. Great chips and salsa, margaritas have good quality tequila, and amazing beans and rice. Shrimp and crab enchiladas are a great choice and so is the barbacoa. You also cant go wrong with the regular staples like tacos and burritos.

I really like this restaurant. Great quality food at great prices. Their margaritas got me through Covid.I just placed an order online and accidentally placed it for pickup rather than delivery, and their manager Carlos was so kind and called me, helped me replace the order, gave me suggestions on what his favorite items on the menu are, etc. I was very impressed by the customer service and will definitely need to stop by and visit in person soon. This was the most blandest dish I’ve ever had. The meat wasn’t seasoned at all. As if it was boils in just water. Drove 30 minutes to celebrate Mothers Day (5/10/23).Extremely disappointed...salsa watery it was like it came from a jar, beans from a can, Agua de Jamaica from a powder mix. This is not authentic Mexican Food. Chile Colorado tasted like it was a meant to be in tamales minus the flavor (too thick, not fresh).Never going again. I know you have your history and I give you credit for being open so long but I blame it on location (Venice) and your regulars. Me and my girl got the most amazing service since the moment we walked into the restaurant we were greeted super fast and politely, seated quick and the food was spectacular! As an authentic Mexican I was amazed with our food! We ordered jalapeno poppers as an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious, and for our entree we ordered the rib eye and shrimp medium rare and everything was cooked to perfection. Its crazy how when we looked this place up online it only showed 4.3 stars but in reality they deserve 5 stars!! Before I moved away years ago, this was always my favourite Mexican restaurant in LA. On my most recent visit to my home town we stopped here for lunch, and they still do the best chile rellenos Ive ever had. I could really taste the tomato in the salsa, it didn’t really have a kick. The day I decided to come here the beans were salty. Overall, the food tasted as if it was canned originally. The only down side is that its hard to find parking, but thats Venice for you. The two shopping center parking lots nearby are full, and pretty strict about Customers Only. We saw a car getting towed from the Whole Foods parking lot. So we went on a search for street parking and were lucky to snap up a free spot on the street about 3 blocks from the restaurant.

I’m not one to write reviews, but my experience tonight was something I needed to share. Love the location and their decor. The hosts and servers where great. We sat out in their back patio which was very nice and inviting. Everything was going well until we got our food. Some of us received cold food. We did send it back and the dishes were returned nice and hot. I don’t want to share what I thought about my dish, because I just sound like a complainer. Maybe I should have older enchiladas : ) This is what upset me...the table next to use, who just got seated, started chain smoking!! I mean really?! Smoking in a restaurant?! Apparently it’s okay because we are technically in a patio (with four walls and a semi covered roof. I thought I was back in the 80’s! I truly felt sick to my stomach and I use to smoke. Never again! I couldn’t finish my food and we had to quickly leave. My hair and clothes smell like cigarettes ...blah!!

I first went to La Cabana in back in the early 90s, when my friend Vince introduced me to all the cool La restaurants he had been to over the course of his growing up in this fine City. I hadnt been there in over 10 years, and yet I felt like Id returned home. Ive been here a few times as the family loves this place. My sons grandpa came here with his dad. The tortillas are frash and cooked in the center of the room the same way everytime forever. I was visiting some friends from Toronto in LA who live(d) just a few minutes drive from La Cabaña and insisted we go there for dinner one night. Id been to a ton of Mexican spots, but this one instantly became my favourite (maybe on earth) after I had their carne asada. Theirs is just perfectly seasoned and gives off this incredible deeply smoky/charred flavour which leaves my mouth watering just thinking about it. While thats my favourite dish of theirs (and one of my top 10 favourites ever), all the other items on their menu are right up there in terms of quality, freshness, and taste. I probably went 3-4 more times on that one trip alone after my friends showed me the place and cant wait to go back next time Im in town. I also have to mention the incredible vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant, both inside and out. My waiter was very grumpy. I was unaware that there was chicken in my cheese quesadilla, And I ate a slice of it. Eating that slice revealed the open part of the quesadilla and the chicken inside. I am a vegetarian and have been one for over half of my life. This was the first time I had actual meat while on my vegetarian diet. Warning Horrible experience I use to come here before it was never like this it’s so changed they made us wait over 20 minutes outside. The waiter was not even sorry.But the worst part of all was the date add how much they want on tip they at their percentage I had to tip these people like $30 which I didn’t think was fair because the service was not good never going back again!

This place was such a disappointment.The salsa was just Buffalo sauce. The food was overly expensive and the food was lukewarm where the cheese was already dried on the plate. All in all, terrible and then they charge you to valet your car to top it off. Do yourself a favor and avoid this dump

Longtime classic Mexican, good for families. Good food, service, margaritas. Natchos with ground beef are excellent. Tableside guacamole is, too. Fun place, just go!

Probably the best enchilada on the west side. The food they serve isnt mexicali food. The restaraunt has a very old school intimate feel (probably because its been around over 50 years). They have a good beer selection and decent margaritas. The tortillas are made on site and you can occasionally see them being made in the dining room. They also will make guacamole at the table side which I highly recommend.For those who play pokemon go. The restaraunt is a pokestop and you can find lures up throughout the day.

I love this hidden gem, customer service is excellent and the food is delicious, i have been going there for over 20 yrs. Love this place. Recommends 100%, we go from Pasadena to enjoy this place, nothing else compares.

Food isnt as good as Casablanca across the street, but its open super late and is a very cozy spot to hit at the end of a long night. Its a little more expensive than it should be, but youre paying for that 2:30 AM convenience

My experience was very inconvenient. We ask guacamole and a green burrito.-The guacamole came with the bar code sticker chopped inside, and-the burrito came with a repulsive 2 inches string of metal (I think from one of those steel wool things you use for doing the dishes)-in addition, the food is tastelessYou will end parking in the parking lot in front of them but I dont suggest going.They didnt charge us.

HORRIBLE!... Roaches on the walls, cold beans and rice with unmelted cheese! Old guy helping had a scent of doodoo on his hands as if he had just gotten out of the John.. Old guacamole...when we asked for salsa and more napkins, we were answered with You dont have enough already? mind you there are 3 of us and only 3 napkins on the table. They charge $2.00 for a side of sour cream and $12 for a 6 CHEESE quesadilla.. HORRIBLE SERVICE!! Old guy waiting came to check on us once the entire dinner!! Then actually had the nerve to ask for a tip! HAHAHAHA!! Definitely not a cash tip you BUM.. OLD FART.

I used to go here after work with my girlfriends once a week. This time the glassware was filthy, my bean and cheese burrito was cold and not melted, there was a hair in my boyfriends food, and a fly in my margarita. SO GROSSED OUT would have been more forgiving had they apologized and comped the fly cocktail (or something) . But no reaction what so ever......

This place is great. The prices are getting high and the chips and salsa are subpar. Aside from that, this place is bomb. The restaurant kitty corner, Casablanca, albeit under the same owner ship, is MUCH better.

Great tasting mexican food, great service, and best margarita Ive had in years. Cinco de Mayo they put a mariachi band on the roof. Just one mile walk from venice beach if you want to hang there after a meal.

I wouldnt go back. Theres no parking for the customers, which is a total hassle. I thought the food was too expensive and not very good. Customer service very poor. But the margaritas! Saved the day. Almost, repeat almost, made it worth it.

I came with high expectations due to the 4.2 rating on google. Prawns were tasteless, michelada was not cold. Service was good but food was bland. I would avoid!
