One of my favs. Their sushi and sashimi are great for the price (you get whatcha pay for). Their tempura is also very good. You can taste that they change their oil on a regular basis. The breading on the tempura is just right. Small intimate setting. Family friendly. Service has always been friendly and inviting throughout the years of patronage. When in the area and want good sushi, sashimi and tempura, make sure you stop by and indulge yourself in their skillful art of sushi making.Plenty of free parking. Get there early because they do fill the small dining room quickly. There is a sushi bar if you prefer that over a table or a booth.

Very nice sushi place. Their tuna sashimi was almost as delicious as their fatty tuna, except it tasted slightly more bloody. I would definitely go with tuna as a better deal.Mackerel sushi was my next favorite item. It was flesh and more flavorful than many regular sushi bars.I felt lucky finding monkfish livers here, but it was a bit leaner as I remembered... still liked it though.

Kaori Sushi never disappoints, we couldnt get enough of their Black Cod marinated in Miso and then torched with a flame to give it that smokey taste, absolutely amazing. The assortment of sushi was soooooo fresh and delicious. The surprise of the night though had to be the That Roll, its a riceless roll with seaweed salad, spicy tuna, soy paper and fried garlic and chili oil along the top.

I recently visited a kaori restaurant and had a mixed experience. The risotto was definitely one of the highlights - it was cooked to perfection and tasted great. The black cod was also a standout dish, with a delicious flavor that left me wanting more. Unfortunately, the chefs choice sushi was only average imo. Additionally, one thing I found disappointing was that they didnt strain the tea, which was unpleasant to drink. Overall, while the sushi was a bit of a miss, the risotto and black cod were definitely worth trying. Id definitely come back to try other things as the setting was very cute.

As I walked into Kaori Sushi, I was greeted with a lukewarm welcome from the hostess. The ambiance seemed promising, but as I sat down, the server rushed over to take my order before I even had a chance to glance at the menu. Throughout the meal, the service remained hurried and impersonal, leaving me feeling like just another customer on an assembly line. The sushi itself was good at best, had the freshness and flavor . Overall, the experience fell far short of the high expectations I had for a memorable sushi dinner.

Good sushi, great atmosphere.1st star Short staff for a Tuesday evening. Recommend 3 front end staff to juggle pick ups orders and serving a full restaurant. Long wait times and numerous patron calls towards waitress/waiter.2nd star - Fresh dozen of oysters were not good. At $4/each they were Full of shells and sand. Couldn’t even finish them they were that bad. Recommend to rinse them out after being shucked.

Fantastic atmosphere and food. This place is small and cozy, like many small sushi joints in Japan. You might have to wait for a table but it will be worth it. If you are a small party sit at the bar and watch the masters work.

Weve passed this location so many times and didnt notice it. The inside is adorable! You feel like youre in Japan but its not overly done. The hostess was so sweet and we really felt safe inside and clean. We ordered the spicy spider roll and green tea crunchy roll and talk about fresh and packed full of flavor. One of the best quality chirashi I had for the price!

I expressed to both servers that I have a shrimp allergy. Nothing deadly, I just cant eat it. They were very accommodating with my main course, but when I ordered another roll on the side, a crunchy dragon roll, neither the sushi menu or the servers told me it contained shrimp.Im not very familiar with shrimp, and I even asked the server if any of the things that I had ordered, (I was seated in a group of five,) had contained shrimp. They assured me nothing I would eat contained it.When they brought out my food, it took me three bites of it to realize it did contain shrimp. When my party brought attention to the issue, the server took the roll back to the kitchen to consult the chefs, and they said because I had eaten half of the roll, (I had only 2 bites,) they could only take off 50% and not the entire cost of the dish off the bill.I didnt ask for a discount, or a free meal for the group, we only asked that the one roll I could not eat would be taken off the bill.They did not accommodate my food allergy, nor did they accommodate my request to correct the error that they made.If you read this far in the review, note that the food I was able to eat was pretty good and I think if you dont have any food allergies this would be a nice place to visit. The rest of my group did have an excellent time.(Photo attached is the sushi roll they refused to take off the bill, no one else in my party ate from it, not lying about only having 2 pieces, etc)

Competent is the best way to describe this place. They are not bad but just not very good. Nothing stands out. They try to please by giving thicker cuts of fish but without proper consideration for balance. Good food should be a balancing act. Fish is fresh. But once again nothing stands out--just another competent sushi restaurant. I did not order their premium package (or chefs choice) so not sure what offerings there may be at that spectrum. (I did try the premium chirashi but that created no fireworks for me--its just more of the same fish as regular chirashi rather than more premium fish). But thats really besides the point as whatever was ordered was gauged on its own merit and worth.

I thought this was a low key new place but yeah I checked it’s been around for yearssss. Like 20 or something along those lines. Definitely not new. Has a authentic Japanese feel. Decor all over. There’s always something to look at. Affordable especially for the quality. I think I might actually say this is on it’s way to my favorite Japanese sushi restaurant in OC. Usually I would have to go to LA. There are good one here but they get so expensive. This one is so fairly price that I don’t feel bad coming here often. I have been once and it left such a wonderful taste in my mouth. I definitely want to come back. If you’re in OC you know how hard it is to make the drive down Beach Blvd from 405 down to the 91 and over to DTF. TIP: small entrance easy to miss.

Dined here with a few friends and the food was all too good!!! Wished I had taken photos but whos really got time for that? Like who in their right mind takes like 20 pictures looking for that perfect angle of each dish for an audience in social media whom more than likely either can care less or are tired of seeing their feed filled with pretentious self proclaimed foodies who think are culinary experts just because they dine out a few times a week, while there is delicious food right in front of your face ready to be eaten? Not I. Do yourself a flavor (pun intended) and eat here.

Our server for the 2 kitchen items ordered and for our drinks was fantastic. The chefs choice for the sushi and sashimi was far beyond my expectations. The sushi chef chose some fish weve never had but it was all way better than what Id normally choose for myself. I will definitely be back to bring my family. Not an ideal location for large groups over 6 or 8 due to seating. Price was average compared to other sushi joints.

Was a little thrown off from the picture provided on Google. Picture had my friend and I thinking it was going to have a certain ambience to it and that we would be sitting on the floor in which we were hoping for. Besides it being different from the picture we had seen, it was perfect. Everything we asked about they provided and the food was tasty and served quickly. Nice selection of saki choices and they have the standard Japanese beer selection. We racked up a good size bill at $140 but again we ordered a few specialties that were not always available plus we had a few extra sushi rolls we didnt even get to touch. I would recommend this place for a nice Japanese sushi experience.

Found this place last year and if has been my husbands and my to-go sushi place ever since. The sushi is great. It doesnt only look pretty but also tastes delicious! The meat is always fresh and the portion is very generous. You can just feel it melt in your mouth. The ambiance there is nice too. Its never noisy so you can actually enjoy the food and the conversation at the same time. Definitely would recommend it to any sushi lovers!

I genuinely like this place and have returned several times already. The atmosphere is calming, they always play very good music as well as sports up on the television sets that surround the sushi bar. The staff is very polite, on top of things, and professional which is always appreciated greatly. The quality of the fish is amazing. I am definitely making this a monthly lunch spot at least. We started with the crispy rice which was fried to a crunchy perfection. The spicy tuna on top was good and spicy but not overpowering. Jalapeño peppers were delicious. We asked for the sushi chefs recommendation, and she said black cod was as her favorite. It was amazing! The hot sake was dangerously smooth. Overall the staff was attentive, the fish was fresh, and it is definitely worth coming back soon.

First time with a dear friend. I’m always very guarded when it comes to sushi. This place such a pleasant surprise. Being told what fish was fresh as of this morning was terrific. Beautiful presentation. Simple and delicious. The halibut and blue fin were to die for. And, for a nice fun appetizer combination, get the crispy rice and the veggie gyoza. Heaven, just pure heaven. Great vibe inside. I love it and the service is top notch. The sushi is not that great. Some things better than others but all in all pretty disappointed. I really wanted to love this place. We tried quite a bit. The big bear roll was pretty good. The Valentine roll was good but the seaweed was so hard to chew let alone bite. I almost choked. We had the Yellowtail avocado roll which was by far the best. Tried the Garlic albacore which was tough, couldnt bite thru it. Ive had other places and its like butter normally so very disappointed. Sauce was good and we used it for all the rolls. Yellowtail Jalapeno was smoother but lacked flavor. Gyoza was delicious. Might give another try because close to home and I really love the inside feel but after spending $140 I left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

Sadly, I was too busy eating and enjoying the place that I did not take any photos. I know terrible of me! Excellent fresh sushi. Not about rolls (although you can order it here) but about the true Japanese sushi. Sashimi, nigiri, kama, so on.They have monkfish liver and it was delicious!! This is a difficult item to find at real sushi places! I highly recommend monkfish liver and uni udon pasta. It is the best here and I know many other places have this dish but they do not include uni sashimi with it like they should. Unlike Feu Noodle Bar 🙄Some other dishes I tried were sea snails, takowasa, miso seabass, yellowtail sashimi, uni nigiri, toro nigiri, fresh water eel sushi, oysters from Japan, hotate, red snapper nigiri, halibut nigiri, and some others. These were all a la carte orders. They probably had omakase but didnt get it. Just going off by memory and I know there was more I had. I wish I could remember them all.Service was excellent! Plenty of parking. Suggest sitting at the bar if you are a true sushi person. I would if I went solo. Cant wait for next time!

My husband and I have frequented Kaori for about seven years. The food is delightful and authentic. The fish and sea fare is incredibly fresh and full of flavor. (My husband wont bother with sushi anywhere else, as it always lets him down compared to Kaori.) We hope this joy of a restaurant stays here for many, many more years! Visited Kaori Sushi on a Friday night and we truly enjoyed our experience.Once we got there, we put our name in our sign up sheet and they called our name within 20 mins (not bad for a Friday night at an establishment in Downtown Fullerton area).As we walked inside the restaurant, you get the feeling that you are being transported to a different world. The decor and the ambiance inside the restaurant is amazing.We ordered the salmon sashimi, green mussels, salmon skin roll, king salmon roll and Philadelphia roll. The salmon sashimi was very fresh, we loved that the pieces of salmon were on the thicker side. The green mussels were so good, the creamy sauce perfectly coated the top of the mussel and we enjoyed that we were able to taste the smokiness in the shell from the baking process. The salmon skin roll and Philadelphia roll were very simple rolls, no fillers, which is something we appreciate from sushi restaurants. All the pieces were bite size. Lastly, the king salmon roll, which is California roll with salmon and avocado on top.Overall our experience at Kaori Sushi was amazing, cant wait to stop by again very soon.

The staff is friendly and never in a rush to get you out the door. The menu has excellent choices and those choices are further more complimented by weekly specials. Gino is an incredible sushi chef and goes out of his way to ensure that all ingredients are fresh. Prepare to spend a good amount of time enjoying the selections, staff and environment.

My go to place when I’m craving sushi! Owner Gino is amazing with his service. I enjoy sitting at the bar and ordering food non stop! It’s a small place so the service could feel a bit slow. It also gets packed so make reservations! Lunch time is usually not that crowded, but during dinner time it’s a full house. Make sure to come when they open again at dinner time to avoid waiting!

This place will ruin all other sushi places for you because you will be thinking about how great the food is here in comparison. Gino serves fantastic, fresh sushi and sashimi with expert precision, but he also crafts other really unique dishes that you wont find anywhere else. (Red snapper in olive oil, Crispy rice, and Dynamite Oysters to name a few). If theres a special on the board, it will not disappoint, and when in doubt, a sushi sampler or chefs choice is a good call.

What a excellent experience I had here today. Tucked away in this little food zone is this authentic Japanese food. The decor was nice, made me feel comfy like I was transported to Japan. The miso soup was super tasty. The fish was sooo fresh. I got the Bento box with a crunchy roll. I couldnt finish it but Im going to have my left overs for dinner. I think anyone who eats here will be completely satisfied with their decision. The prices are right, the food is super delicious and super fresh.my son got the spicey tuna, he really liked it.

Best sushi in this north OC area. Chef Jiro is absolutely amazing. The girl that makes the rolls and cooked sushi is great. Not sure where he gets his fish... but its fresh and portions are generous. Flavors are delicious! Chef jiro is always sociable and always down to strike up a conversation. Sharing soju with your neighbors and chefs is a must at this establishment! The frustrating part comes when you are waiting to get seated. The host/waitress/phone order taker is really nice but she can get a little overwhelmed. The servers are top notch... but I feel like they need to hire a busboy and host. They could turn the tables so much quicker (and prevent walk outs). She will tell you 15-20 minutes but its more like 45-50. It gets frustrating because the previous party leaves but it takes 20-30 minutes to get cleared. Once you are actually seated though, the service is great. Beer is cold, sushi is fresh and delicious.

The hostess lady doesnt acknowledge my presence, or tell me what I should be doing. I was puzzled but waited patiently as other customers also grumbled about what we are supposed to do.I went to the lady and asked her if there is a waitlist I need to put my name on, oh what do you know? There is one! I am listed and wait 30 minutes.About 7:40 pm I am seated. I wait 20 minutes to get even a water. Two waitress girls are running around serving everyone while hostess lady/manager cant handle even just the seating of customers.Anyways the complaint is with the hostess lady. Our poor server was sweating doing everything while the orders took FOREVER!! I left after 10PM!!!Horrible management. but...Sushi was good.

When my friend took me to a Korean Sushi house, my eyebrow raised a bit. But, the second we start taking in the beautifully served sushi, I was hooked. I knew I was hooked. OK lets put it this way - The BEST and my MOST FAVORITE sushi restaurant in entire West and East Coast of US. PERIOD. Yes there more fancy looking restaurants out there - just like Kitayama in Newport Beach and some very pricey in Beverly and Hollywood but none of the come any close to quality and FRESHNESS of seafood that one get in Kaori Sushi. I actually for a while was trying to find similar place where you can have fresh food and very reasonable price and yet feel truly welcome and search al over US and compare places not only in South and North California Coast but also when i fly to New York i also try to find matching seafood restaurants there as well - funny yet amazing - none come close. (very high!) The only drawback is because this place is so good it is very hard to get there on Fridays and Saturdays so i would recommend to call and make an appointment unless you dont mind to wait a bit. But no matter what even if i have to wait its ok because joy of good fresh food and comfortable cozy environment with reasonable price range. Bottom line - yes i would highly recommend this place to a friend and family.

After reading the reviews on how authentically Japanese this place was, I had to try it out. My bf and I went on a Saturday night around 7pm, and boy was it crowded! It is a very small restaurant, with no podium for a host. So go toward the cashiers podium in the middle of the room to sign your name in.We also saw that there was a row of seats in the back facing the outside of the restaurant. Not sure why that wasnt utilized...Anyways, lets get to the food. Although I ordered the food for takeout, I ate it immediately in the car because 1. It took half an hour to get our order and 2. my bf wanted to stay longer to watch the wrestling match on TV and my HANGRY self could not take it anymore.1. The uni nigiri was awesome. It is uni done right- sweet, oceany, thick, and creamy. YUM! Granted, it is not as amazing as those you get fresh from the shell. But still good.2. The toro nigiri was pretty awesome as well, but not for its price- $12 eek! Ive had better toro at sawtelles Granada Market for a lot cheaper.3. Small Sushi Set with 15-17 sashimi pieces. I regret choosing this one. It comes with chefs choice, but in this case it was just the usual suspects of salmon, tuna, hamachi, mackerel, white tuna, and one more I couldnt figure out but wasnt good. Pieces were big, but nothing tasted as fresh as the price should be. One fish was very chewy as well and not melt in your mouth tender :/Being from West LA, Ive been spoiled by Sawtelle aka Little Osaka. I thought even Sushistops quality was comparable to this (and those are $2.75/nigri!).This entire dish cost us $55, and it was not worth it. I unfortunately wont be back.

Cost per person depends, cause when I go to Kaori I am prepared to spend. Gino really knows his stuff...let him take care of you, which means be prepared to dine. I love the live sweet shrimp, the collar, and various sashimi but I usually just ask Gino whats good, and its always exceeded my expectations.

Went into lunch today with coworkers went back to work to find two of us itching uncontrollably, I had a very red rash on my legs and my coworker on her inner thighs, we were the only two that ate raw tuna. My other coworker prefers cooked. I eat sushi all the time and ive never had this reaction. I did notice when we went in that it smelled more fishy than other places Ive gone to. I called them to let them know and they said to wait. I need help I cant wait. Never going back again unless its to get a refund. This is ridiculous.

Kaori is small and quaint, but Gino knows what hes doing. The fish is always fresh, and my husband and I can always count on great recommendations from the chefs. Some may be off put, because its not as fancy or showy as some of the other sushi restaurants, but for those who know sushi, this is the place to go!
