This is a well overdue review but thank you to Jackie and nick for making my time there so comfortable. This is a great location to stay in big bear, especially on a budget. I loved meeting everyone that came through. The great room in the cabin is truly remarkable, with a big fireplace in the center. I recommend bringing your own towel. Can’t wait to come back for next season!

I am a PCT thru hiker stayed here in mid . Jackie is super friendly and helpful & Yogi the dog is super cute. The hostel is walking distance from the Big Bear Village where there are lots of restaurants & is also right up the street from the gear outfitters. Would recommend to any PCT thru hiker or person who wants to check out Big Bear.

One of the better hostels Ive been to, great living areas with games and entertainment. The supplied bedding was nice and comfortable, and we stayed at a nice temperature at night. Im only giving four stars because there were no single use towels, which in a hostel setting is pretty odd. They even had a sign on the wall that told you not to share towels to prevent the spread of the norovirus. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

I stayed with my son on his PCT hike, and the hostel was terrific. Generous space inside and out, plus a big new adjacent house to expand the space. Jackie was so helpful, welcoming, and very accommodating of our last minute booking and even changes to our booking. What a wonderful hostel! Thank you.

I wasnt sure what to expect when visiting ITH Big Bear. Initially I thought it was just a good deal. However, this place surpassed all expectations. The staff are great, the beds are super comfortable, and the vibes are immaculate. This place isnt a hostel - its an experience. Making plans to go back ASAP.If you are looking for a solid bang for your buck place to stay, traveling solo, or just want to have a wholesome experience - ITH Big Bear is the place.Cheers to Bruno and friends for making it possible.

Best hostel experience I’ve ever had! The staff was super friendly (Adrian and Bruno were incredibly helpful!) The hostel was clean and cozy. Beds were comfy, showers were clean and had great water pressure. The game room and great room were perfect for kickin back and relaxing. Less than a 5 minute walk from the village which has great food and bars. I’d choose this hostel over any of the hotels nearby (even if those hotels weren’t 10 times more expensive.) I couldn’t have asked for a better stay! Thank you ITH! I’ll be back for ski season!

By far the best hostel I’ve been to in the states, the staff were super super friendly, the management is very cool and helpful, Yogi the dog is charming and cute, the events, the food, the gatherings, the atmosphere, it’s more than perfect. Even though I was there only for 1 night, I felt the urge to actually stay there longer, feels home, the decorations and the vibes are so comfy and they got everything you might think of, from card games, pool, Darts, Guitars, Piano, Chess to a hot tub outside and a BBQ, they’re are plenty of things to do and they are very caring and the staff will make sure you’re having a good time. Definitely worth it to give it a shot!

Liked it so much here that I extended my stay to 2 nights. Awesome staff. Cuddly Bernese mountain dog (yogi). Taco Tuesday’s hosted by the hostel. Hot tub, game room, kitchen, porch & great room areas are perfect spaces for meeting new people &/or hanging out in groups. Free coffee + breakfast (fruit & ingredients for waffles or pancakes). $2.50 laundry. Exceptionally clean and fun hostel with great vibes

My husband, two kids and myself stayed in one of their camping spots that are around the hostel and we had an amazing experience. It included a continental breakfast, they let us use their kitchen, rest rooms, game room and great room! Everyone was so kind and inviting, too!

Absolutely LOVED my stay here at ITH Big Bear. I was very hesitant to book a hostel as Ive never stayed in one before.. in conjunction to the fact I was traveling alone too, however the minute I stepped in the door I knew it was a great call and felt totally welcomed & safe.Disclosure: I did however book one of the private rooms, so I cant speak too much to the bunk room stay. Nonetheless everyone I met and shared the space with during my stay was lovely.I truly loved the open concept and the mountain lodge common space area to mingle/play games with other guests (if desired). The lodging was less than a 15 minute drive to the base of Big Bear Mountain which was ideal for skiing and spending the night. I would absolutely recommend this place.

I hate giving them 3 stars for the fact that the staff were very nice, attentive and helpful (in person). The location was also very nice. Actually, I would have given it more if I were to compare it with a shared room hostel standard but for a private room experience.. this is the highest I could give.I got a private room with shared bathroom. The bathroom was right next to my room so its pretty comfortable. Water took quite long to heat up despite I turned the H tap to full. The water draining was also working terribly. I showered with my feet flooded.The hostel looked clean in general. There were people cleaning the common area everyday. However, if you look deeply, for example, my room, its actually full of dust. I assume they just change bed sheets and do general floor cleaning but leave other space untouched. I wanted to close the curtain and a pile of dust just flew up and made me sneeze. Btw, the bedsheet was not clean either. There was a lot of hair of different colors and length. I was very uncomfortable that I used my own clothes to make another layer before I slept. On the second night there was a cockroach-size insect running in the restroom and a very big ant (? - let say an insect) in my room! I know its Big Bear national park in summer, but Id expect them to at least apply some insect prevention to human living space..Breakfast was amazing for a hostel - eggs, bread, jam, peanut butter, milk, waffles (you have to make it - they provide ingredients), tea, coffee. I totally suggest making waffles - its very quick and easy. Kitchen was very good, just like advertised. They have a lot of everything to use and also dish soap to clean. Youre supposed to clean your dishes yourself but I saw a lot of guests left their dirt though. Big fridge. Milk was left in the fridge all day for free from the morning.They advertised that they have free dinner and that made me thought its everyday - no they didnt! Free bbq and tacos are only on Sun and Tue. This was extremely misleading! The activity board was also another weird thing. In the morning the staff messaged in the whatsapp group about the hike. I replied and no one replied me until the time came I showed up and they said its a do-it-yourself hike.. so basically they only suggested you what to do and thats it. I remembered upon check-in the staff showed me the board saying we have a lot of activities.. suggested activities and you go do it by yourself.They have like 6-7 parking spots in front of the hostel. Reception wont open until 4pm but I felt like staff were around all the time. Theyre not responsive in messenger app/social media but if you walk up to them and ask, they will be helpful and friendly and approachable. There was a hot tub but I didnt feel like going in due to the overall cleanliness of the hostel. Location was very good tho. The Big Bear village is a few minutes walk.Common areas are very good. They have board games and many kinds of sitting/lying down furnitures. I love that they have piano and guitar too. And people respect the quiet time, after that hours, everything was quiet. The only sound I heard after closing all the windows was some random cars passing by the street, otherwise its very quiet (forest sound doesnt count).Maybe my expectation was too high from their advertisement and all the good reviews. Its probably worth it for a shared hostel bed but for a $120+ private room, I expected something much cleaner at least.

Phenomenal hostel stay in Big Bear Lake! Super friendly, large layout so plenty of places to socialize or get some alone time. They offered breakfast-making materials in the morning including pancake/waffle mix, fruit, bread, oatmeal, and coffee/tea. I would definitely stay here on my next trip!

Great hostel for thru hikers. Close to the hardware store and many restaurants. They offer soap and laundry for a small price. Soap, shampoo and towels are free for the showers. I think I even would have preferred this hostel over a more expensive hotel room because you have the freedom to cook yourself, lounge on very comfortable furniture and take the space to figure out your resupply for the next section. The only downside is that I couldn’t call them directly. They have to call you back, hoping you have service if they do. Tip if you need to reschedule your appointment: call the office in San Diego. They can do that too.

Keep in mind this is a hostel. Every now and then, I like to stay in a hostel. The environment is different and you get to meet cool people from other countries. This hostel is just like any other ski lodge, cozy, warm feeling atmosphere. Friendly staff. We rented the king room with private bathroom. Again, for a hostel its a great option. Stayed one night, dinner served was BBQ baked chicken with rice, bread and salad. Not bad. Breakfast wasnt as impressive, pancakes and coffee. Not very healthy. There are games to play with your fellow travelers. The location is central too. Definitely recommend this hostel for a quick weekend getaway, especially if you like to meet strangers from out of town and enjoy a social atmosphere. I do agree that you can hear easily in this lodge but I dont think its too disturbing for one night.

By far one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at. I love the fact that you get to meet people from all over the world, play pool, have a family style dinner and breakfast! For the price you pay ( barely anything) you get so much. Enjoy! Keep an open mind if you have never stayed at a hostel before. Make sure you clean up after yourself and feel free to bring food to cook. They have a full kitchen for you to use!

I had an amazing experience. It was my first time in a hostel. The staff was courteous and respectful on top of that extremely friendly. They made breakfast every morning and serve dinner except on Tuesdays. Where you were invited to a local restaurant for dollar tacos and great conversation. I highly recommend if you are interested in meeting new people up for Great Adventures and open to new experiences.

The ITH hostel in Big Bear was amazing! My boyfriend and I extended our trip in Big Bear and needed a place to stay last minute. This place was affordable and had great reviews so we decided to try it out. We had our own room with a very comfortable bed and Roku TV! We shared a bathroom which was not an issue because it was always clean and available when we needed it. I was even allowed to bring my dog which made the experience even more special. Our room even had a view of the lake. ITH offers a very communal environment with guitars in the main room to play and Yogi the dog that lives on site. They will even cook dinner for you for only $5 and free breakfast! Very magical place and would recommend to anyone stopping through Big Bear!

Best hostel experience Ive had. It also included dinner and breakfast, which was delicious homemade food. The lodge is really nice too with a large fireplace. Ian and Rudy, who own the place, were very nice to everyone, and even give hikers free rides to/from the trail. I will definitely want to come back and stay here and recommend it to everyone. First time staying at a Hostel type Lodge and it was a great experience. The Lodge itself had a rustic charm to it and location was great. They served fresh home made breakfast and dinner daily. There were planned activities which you could join in if you felt like being social or enjoy your own quite time outside or indoors. Its an international Hostel so we met a variety of travellers from all over. The staff were friendly and super accommodating. If youve never stayed at a Hostel, I recommend you try it as it was worth the experience.

Came here just to camp at a nice spot and a view and this place far exceeded any expectations. The amenities at this hostel are amazing; instruments, billiards, and included breakfast. Staff are great and really nice (stupidly unprepared for how cold sleeping outside would be, they helped me with a ton of warm blankets). Ive worked in Hostels before, this place is special. It was my first time staying in a hostel in the USA, i fell in love with this place no just the two story caring that is kept clean and made so you feel at home, but most important the staff and the people staying. It would just be another cabin but what made it memorable was that the staff sit, and hangs out with you, they make their best efforts to make you fell welcome, they give us breakfast and dinner turn on the fire place and eat like a big family of BEARS. they managers offer to take us to see the stars up the mountains, my stay was very well balance drinking fun time with relax time, i would definitely with out a doubt come here again, even tho there is a hostel 3 or 4 dollars cheaper this has a lot more to offer then trying to safe a few bucks.

We were early checked in by the friendly host, Jimmy and yogi (the dog) as the owner, really cute fellow!Unforgettable and first time tried cabin style lodging and the place is 5 mins -10 mins away to The Village, Magic Mountain and Boulder Bay park. Rustic and charming in its way, the hostel encourages to interact with other guests thru communal areas with game room and cozy fireplace. Jimmy was thoughtful of asking my food preference and served Mexican dinner with vegetarian option. Stay on weekday came with free dinner and breakfast.We enjoyed abusing as well their guitar instrument😝The only negative I have which is doable, i found Lumps of hair in the bathroomfloor. Other than that, it was cool !

Its about 100 yards from the main road and up the hill side. A few pine trees but you can see Big Bear Lake. If you dont mind sharing a common Restroom/shower then you are missing out on a great place to stay.

Had a very nice time here.All staff being polite, helpful and making it feel like a second home.On top of that there is a very friendly dog, Yogi.Booked a room with own bathroom.So that was all fine.Wifi was fast, the bed was old i guess but slept very good! The shower isnt big, but it was ok(i m 6.4 feet tall)I also liked their coffee .And yes, the accommodation is rather old, but it is clean. I like the wood interior, actually same as what u can find in the alps, rockies or scandinavia.May/(Want to) come back here. Hope everything just stays as it is.

The space was large and pretty neat but there were a few little problems. The doors were permanently locked so we couldnt go in and out easily. There was an awesome llighting set but it didnt work. The inside while it was large felt cramped with small corridors between rooms. The fireplace was really neat but didnt ventilate well. Although the flu was open smoke filled the room.

The owner is very friendly and surprisingly the staff can speak Chinese. The quality of environmental health services is excellent. It is my best choice on the PCT.
