My partner and I consider our appointments with Ira to be a highlight of our week. Ira is an immensely gifted teacher-authentic, compassionate, wise, and direct. I appreciate how he doesnt just sit back and validate our emotions - he is patient, candid, and provides actionable advice that has had a meaningful benefit to our happiness and growth. His books (Wired and Tired, How to Survive Your Childhood Now that Youre an Adult) are also incredibly insightful and have provoked some important introspection. Forgiveness has always been a concept that was really hard for me to accept and understand. Doing shadow work with Ira has brought amazing benefits into my life so far and for once in my life, I feel authentic happiness. Not pretend happiness from validation I get from others. I had an amazing experience taking Iras course Cultivating Authentic Happiness at Esalen. Ira is an incredibly engaging public speaker. He mixes humor, irony, and emotion in a way that really keeps your attention. Ira is more than an instructor, he is also a friend. He is someone who strives to create meaningful relationships with the people around him. This is what seems to be what he values most in life, and it is hard for many of his beliefs to not rub off on you after speaking with him for just a few minutes. I took a workshop on cultivating authentic happiness at Esalen, taught by Ira and his small team. It was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Ira’s dedication and genuine care for our group and for his clients is unmatchable. His therapy sessions with each of us over the course of the week helped everyone that I talked to tremendously, myself included. Ira was able to foster a loving and open community within only a matter of days through his teachings that use a number of great quotes, video clips, and jokes to intertwine many awesome aspects of philosophy, yoga, meditation, and general self care and introspection. Ira is an amazing teacher and leader. His lectures are engaging and woven from many layers of history and psychology. He knows how to use movement and humor to instruct and inform a modern audience. I was was first introduced to Ira when I watched “How to use forgiveness and compassion to heal with Ira Israel” on the Gaia network. This program was a priceless gift that the Universe sent my way.Immediately I felt a sense of connect with Ira and connected with close to 100% of his wisdom and teachings.I watched 1 hour of the 1 hour and 30 minute program and had to press pause because I have never had such wisdom delivered is such a simple, straightforward, honest, entertaining, common sensical fashion. His aura and energy are steeped with love, generosity, divine knowledge, and authenticity.I scrambled to purchase his book “How to survive your childhood now that you are an adult”. After experiencing some challenges locating it I decided to call the number on his website.To my utter surprise, my call was answered and to my disbelief it was answered by Ira himself! In 48 years I have not once been star struck but I found myself at a total loss of words and in awe. After a beautiful and informative conversation he then gifted me one of his video workshops free of charge.The second my wife got home I shared the diamond in the ruff that I discovered. We started watching his Gaia interview from the beginning and like magic she felt much of the same about Ira and his teachings. I came across Ira Israel through his amazing videos on mindfulness and meditation during a fairly tough time in my life. The information that he shared and the way that it is presented was so powerful that its not an understatement to say that I found a lot of healing through them and continue to use the guided meditations in them weekly.When I reached out to Ira personally to thank him for his work and sharing it with the world - he could not have been nicer or more generous a person. Ira is one of the most singular people you will ever meet. He is a rare combination in that his presence is as calming as it is energizing. I just finished a 5 day workshop in Esalen with Ira. In 5 days, he managed to teach 60 strangers how to be authentic with themselves and others while providing us tools in doing so. I have never met someone so passionate about what he does and so passionate about people. His lectures are engaging, encouraging, funny, uncomfortable at times and powerful. I went to Iras workshop at Esalen, I read his book, and I took his online course Authenticity and Awakening. This is how much I love his message. The online course not only offers practical tools to improve your life and happiness, but it explains HOW the tools work and WHY we need them to overcome some of the ways our minds work against our happiness. I attended Ira’s weeklong “Happiness” workshop at the Esalen Institute and it impacted my life tremendously. Not a day goes by where I don’t apply some of the philosophy that Ira taught. Ira’s classes were deftly constructed and everyone in the workshop found him to be a enthralling yet extremely relatable speaker. He is a treasure trove of knowledge and is able to easily apply that awesome wealth of information to real life problems. Additionally, Ira was extremely generous with his time and offered Drive-Through Therapy sessions for free to all of the students so that we could get some one-on-one time with him to discuss personal challenges in greater detail. He didn’t have to do this so we were all overwhelmed by his generosity of spirit. The world would be a much more loving and compassionate place if everyone took this course.

Ira presents the writings, teachings and practices of leading scientists, authors, spiritual leaders, and self-help gurus, together with insights from his own extraordinary life in an engaging and thought-provoking exploration of happiness and how to achieve it. “How To Survive Your Childhood Now That You’re An Adult” is a must read for every book reader because Ira covers so many different topics on a very interesting subject that we all deal with on a day-to-day basis. As Ira points out and I agree, it should be required reading for every college student who wants to learn about math, chemistry but should study and learn about relationships. As Ira points out that pursuit of happiness in the Western civilization in its present form seems to be a huge failure. Ira explains how the importance of our childhood affects our mature lives. Recently, I read the real FBI agent in The Silence of the Lamb including other serial killers did extensive work showing that the thread between all of these killers had to do with the childhood. Ira explains and helps us understand a lot of the aspects of eastern culture, western culture and explains some of the misconceptions about Buddha and other religions. While I may not agree with him about the downside of western civilization he does give us a different view and commentary on the influence and perceptions of our lives in the US. I know a lot of people who agree with Ira in this regard.I can continue writing a full review but you should read this book as covers many topics from psychoanalysis, the false concept of romantic love, introducing us to eastern cultures that have become very popular with meditation and yoga classes and it’s entertaining with great quotes. I think it should be a companion guide after one reads The Alchemist. As a prolific reader this is a must read!

I was extremely skeptical of anyone purporting to have any sort of mystical wisdom or enlightenment. In Iras introductory video for his workshop, he made it very clear that he is not a guru and does not have all the answers. But he is willing to share the vast amount of information, that he has obtained through diligent work throughout his lifetime, on how to live a happier, more meaningful life, free from the trauma that is so common in our human experience.Iras workshop at Esalen was magical. He walks you through information that is at the cutting-edge of neuroscience and the science of how to live your best life. It is fascinating because the answers are so simple yet seem so difficult. Ira breaks the secrets of happiness down to methods anyone can apply. He also incorporates yoga, meditation, a sound bath, and a sense of community that is almost nonexistent from our daily lives in 2019. The workshop at Esalen exceeded my expectations both for the content of the material and opportunity to meet new tribal members (Esalen 171). Ira understands how to deliver knowledge and tools that can change your life if you practice the new tools. The humor embedded in the content is powerful even though we were a tough crowd -- he is a funny guy/edutrainer.It was helpful to be in such a beautiful place to absorb these new tools. 59 people were at a workshop is quite a bit of people thus the laws of attraction kick in. I did not have a conversation with everyone. I hope to establish new ties with my tribe/group Esalen 171 memebers that I did not speak with in another setting and catching up with others who I did have conversations with. Two months ago, when I heard that Ira Israel had liked my album and would bereviewing it, I went online (naturally) to read more about him. I clicked on a longvideo interview--Transcendence, Season 2, hosted by the very good JamesColquhoun--expecting that Id watch the first five or ten minutes and learn a bitabout I.I. To my own surprise, I stuck around for the full 90 minutes. The fact thatI chose to do so on a typically busy day says a lot, I think, about the importanceof Israels words and the charisma and open-heartedness of his delivery.That interview then led me to Israels book HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR CHILDHOOD NOW THATYOURE AN ADULT. Its a great title--and the book lives up to it. But despite thetitle, the book is not just about our childhoods; its about the larger world, wherethe childish reactivity of us adults generates and compounds the worlds manyproblems. As jazz musician Kenny Werner puts it, the folly of the world is that weturn to external things to try to ease our pain instead of looking within.
