I began my job search after being affected by the wide scale layoffs at Google. Even though I had Google on my resume as well as a top school for my undergrad, I was having trouble getting interviews. I wasnt passing the interviews I did get. Frustrated, I took a step back and enrolled in Interview Kickstarts Early Career program (I only had 2 years of experience). I spent two months studying algorithms and data structures as well as career skills such as resume and behavioral interview strategies. I also took advantage of the mock interviews and career coaching sessions. One month after finishing the live classes section of the program I had four offers, one of which I accepted. The mock interviews helped boost my confidence in real interviews, the career coaching sessions helped me navigate my job search and offer negotiation process, and the career coaching classes taught me how to network and market myself. After the career coaching section of the program I was getting a 40% response rate to my applications, up from 5% from before completing the program. Interview kickstart is a scam, theyre just interested in your money and would load you with lots of unnecessary stuffs to learn with, the contract document quickly disappears once you sign since they dont have offer any refund and you cant use it to file a lawsuit against them. They dont have any jobs to link you to as well. They basically pay people in the east to write reviews as well.

I took a developer interview training course with IKS that included Data structures, System Design, OOP and Behavioral/ Resume preparation/ Salary Negotiation preparation.The differentiator with IKS compared to other such platforms are its varied instructors who have real world experience of working in these technologies or conducting these interviews. They also come from very strong companies. After the well structured sessions are done, its the technical, engineering, real world discussions in between those sessions that are the pearls of wisdom. I had registered for their uplevel course. It comprehensively covers DSA, scalable programing, Dynamic Programing and Engineering management along with 1-1 mock interviews and mentoring. Those who are ready to put in time, hard work and aspiring for tier 1 companies, these are more than enough to get one. To be fair, i just went thru their Engineering management and prep on interview preparation only. This is not available as a stand alone course and comes bundled DSA and Programming depending on the career path. It did help me on how better i can be prepared for an interview compared to pre-IK interviews. That helped me a lot.

So Im just a student and I definitely got overwhelmed with balancing work school, life and the bootcamp but the team at Interview Kickstart really was super patient with me allowing me to take a break to sort out the life work and school balance so I could actually give time to the course, and then let me basically start over again, I feel like a lot of other bootcamps talk about looking out for their students but Kickstart has shown me that they actually do so I really appreciate you guys. As far as the courses go, theyre super in depth and give so much important information, I feel like Im getting a second chance at getting the degree I regretted not going for in undergrad, but with more relevant information. So just all together really love it here. Only thing I would appreciate would be maybe more 1:1 check ins because there is a lot of information and for me sometimes the best way I can feel confident is just by sharing my understanding to see if Im thinking about everything correctly. Also, there are so many free video/material on Youtube and websites.Re: For the below IK replied message. I have actually joined courses IK provided and I did not find the value after the half year long program. 90% of the courses are JUST answering Leetcode questions and the rest 10% is on resume and HR stuff. Also, most of the instructors do not really know how to teach at all.After years of working and searching jobs experience, I would say the courses may be worth for USD$300 - $500 max but not $6,000. I would recommend to spend the money on other online courses which help much much better.

Ops can help provide flexibility in schedule.Cons:Not worth the significance amount in fees. Most examples are for ICs and more meaningful for early career aspirants. There are better reading and video materials at very low cost and great professionals are there for mock interviews. Compared to that the content is average. Ive worked at a few well regarded tech companies in the past, and currently do work for one. But Ive been in my role for 5+ years and things were getting a bit stale and repetitive, so I started thinking about looking externally.Unfortunately, I have never been a strong interviewee, and feel that Ive relied a bit on luck to pass interviews. If I get a coding question Im familiar with, I can solve it. Otherwise I freeze up. I was also *never* able to solve LeetCode Hard questions even at home without any pressure. Mediums I could do about 60% of the time. This isnt enough to reliably get offers without going through a ton of loops, and that can be demoralizing and tough to find time for.To try and do better than this, I decided to enroll in IK. I figured a more structured approach to learning the fundamentals of solving these problems, would make sense as compared to grinding away at LeetCode endlessly. The course starts off with coding, and all foundational material is given by Omkar who is one of the best online instructors Ive seen. The pace is appropriate, and the content is engaging. He also provides patterns which have helped me solve problems I wasnt able to in the past. His System Design modules are also amazing, the videos on Log Structured Merge Tree really stand out as explaining a modern DB concept in an easy to understand way.Ive been able to improve things at my current company and am no longer looking to change roles. So how would I measure success of IK? Well, I can solve LeetCode Hards now, at least 50% of the time. And LeetCode Medium about 90-95% of the time (as in, every 10-20 problems, theres one Im stuck on). This is a huge improvement, and has given me some confidence that when/if I do decide to start interviewing again, I will do better than I have in the past.The price of admission is worth it, even for the just the Omkar videos in coding and system design. Never mind the huge number of mock interviews you get! A worthwhile investment for sure.

Interview Kickstart India program has been really great so far. Many interview prep resources (paid and free) only talk about how to solve individual problems. IK is different and they focus on providing coding patterns and system design templates that are applicable to a wide variety of problems. This is a much better approach than rote practice of hundreds of leetcode problems and trying to remember how to solve them. Another biggest factor is the unlimited 1:1 technical coaching sessions by people who work at places like Google, unlimited 1:1 career coaching by really experienced (20+ years) people or HRs of large companies, 10 mock interviews by those who work at FAANG. I struggle with Leetcode questions, strategizing my interview preparation, understanding all sorts of algorithm problems, and understanding how system design even works. IK is currently only professional platform which provides you a complete prep for cracking interviews for FAANG companies. Currently being an enrolled student to the program, I found it very helpful, and it is worth every penny. The Instructors and course material are excellent, I didnt use any other prep materials, but Spend 2-3 months of dedicated time on the course and you will see big changes in your career. The support staffs are very helpful as well throughout the course duration.The course is an in-depth dive into the key topics - Trees, Recursion, Dynamic Programming, Graphs, Object Modeling, Scalable Systems, etc. – The pre-made videos and live instructor led classes to cover the topics in detail, these were each dedicated a full 5 to 6 hour live classes, along with homework and timed tests every week. Besides the topics, IK also focuses on interview problem solving approach, providing step by step guidance on how to approach each type of problem during real interviews. Not that I was unhappy with my job or employer, but I wanted to know how the interview process looks like especially in major companies including FAANG companies. I wanted to know how well I am prepared if I ever decide to switch. There are so many resources available on internet including but not limited to coding practice platforms like Leetcode, Hackerrank and few other interview bootcamp companies. I was wondering what could be different with IK? So I attended their free seminar on what IK is about and how they prepare you for interview. I was pretty much convinced that I wanted to join but still with some uncertainty because of some factors like fees and no self confidence.I had one week to try and then decide whether I wanted to continue or not. So I started my first week and eureka happened. Foundational material on sorting prepared by brilliant and passionate teacher Omkar was something I had never experienced before especially in my university curriculum. My first live class ran for 7-8 hours and still felt very interesting. At the end of my trial period, I felt more confident and decided I want to do this till end and see how much I could improve with the help of IK.One unique thing about IK is the way their course is structured. Unlike other bootcamp programs where they mainly focus on few particular problems from Leetcode or similar platforms, IK focuses on basics and foundation of problem solving strategies. They dedicate first five weeks for Sorting, Recursion, Trees, Graphs and Dynamic Programming. Before coming to IK, I didnt even know basic types of sorting forget about trees or graphs. Dynamic Programming seemed like something from another planet. After first five weeks, I saw tremendous transformation in myself in terms of knowledge I got from foundation materials followed by live classes and then practicing problems based on the learning from that week and then finally a live test to know how much you understood.In second part, they switch to System Design. I didnt know anything about System Design like I didnt know anything about Dynamic Programming. After 3 weeks of System Design, I started to think about every software problem from a larger point of view. I could now imagine how any product/service would be designed and now could relate why System Design is so important for all the big companies.In third part, they switch to career skills preparation. This includes working on your resume, linkedin profile, offer negotiation skills, behavioral interviews, communication skills, dos and donts from the very beginning of recruiters call to interviews and then getting offer. I would have never imagined how important role this third part of the curriculum plays in getting best offer v/s just another offer.After your 5 +3 + 3 weeks, starts your support period in which you could revisit anything and everything you missed or feel weak about ranging from particular area of problem solving to re-attending any live lectures or re-attempting any live tests.Before IK, in past I tried lot of companies and couldnt crack single because of my approach towards the interview process which I realized only when I joined IK. Problem with most of us is that we dont even know what we dont know. IK first helps you to understand what you dont know and then how to know those things.Having said all the above things, one thing everyone who is considering to join IK must know that first 8 weeks are very rigorous and you cant postpone everything for support period. I came to know about interview kickstart from my mentor. Before joining interview kickstart, I had solved around 450-500 questions on leetcode and I was able to reach the onsite interview stage for big tech companies but I could not crack their onsite interviews. Please be advised. This training is meant for advanced engineer. Please do not come with an intention that from non-tech back ground they will help you to become a completely a tech person.Their content is good, though same can be achieved via different sources as well. Nothing exceptional though and the amount they are charging is not justified.They need to work on their pricing. Not all tutor and expert are from M(F)AANG organizations. The Teaching assistants are going to solve the problem for you. But at times they struggle to give you the logical explanation and you are left by your own .And lastly IK does not own their own promise. So your fee can be increased any time even after promising you a discount. From my experience off getting offer at MicrosoftMy experience was IK extremely positive, i was preparing FAANG company using the standard technics that you find in internet, Leetcode, Educative.IO( Grokking material) and books like Designing Data intensive application etc. Real problem that i was facing was to control my anxiety for big interview day. When i started there was no structure to the madness, Example a simplequick sort can be implemented in multiple ways. so solving a medium problem would take me 30 min or so.The biggest benefit that i got from IK was as followingPros:-1) clear structure way to solve problem (eg. Graphs or DP problems) after IK i could solve medium problem in 10 min2) Omkar the lead instruction videos was crisp and clear to the point. these videos are very detailed and break down the essentials into small digestible components, his method of teaching seems academic and pattern based.3) Foundation material was dense and all material was found in one place, (so no looking for different sources . Saved lot of my time)4) most important was the mock interview. It helped me control my nerves on big days5) salary negotiation. it bumped my salary by 20 % from what initially i was offered.6) On request you can unlock the entire course and finish it much early.Cons:-1) Im located in India, so session timing was 11PM to 4:30AM IST. Which was very difficult specially when classes was held on Sundays.Suggestion for student:1) IK has very hectic schedule, i would recommend you to have some basic understand on Algo and System design before starting. It will avoid you playing catchup game.2) Please read Design Data intensive application and building Microservice(oreilly) books, specially if you are looking for Senior level position.3) In order to get through FAANG company you need to build intuition for solving problem(Algo/System Design). Building intuition takes time. You are rewiring your brain. So please dont assume that knowledge alone is going to get you there. You need solve and practice a lot to build the speed and intuition. IK will give a great boost but its upto you how much time and effort you put it. As an alumni of Interview Kickstart, here is my complete review. I have gone through it and got offers from couple of FAANG companies.You should take this course only if you satisfy all of the below points:1. Interview Kickstart is a great program to get back on track if you have lost your charm with the tech prep. Attend the free webinar to get a taste of it.For DS/Algo, They have foundational material which covers almost all of the DS and Algorithms which is prepared by Omkar Deshpande. He designed all the syllabus for IK and he is awesome at teaching. Also, all other instructors are from FAMANG and well versed in what they teach.System design is where they can can improve and can get creative. IK can use better instructors for the System Design like a Software Architect from a FAMANG which has good communication skills. The instructors approached a 1 on 1 technique in front of entire class to explain the same problem 10 times only to explain professors version of the answer in the end. I hope they can evolve from this teaching method OR they can reduce 1:1 to cover more problems. It was the same for API design and Object modelling. Make it more fun guys.SCRIBBLING ON IPADAll of the foundational material, is explained by scribbling on iPad. While it is very useful way to explain DS / Algo, you can choose not do it for System Design. Use drawings, animations, videos, etc to create content in a creative way. You have a huge area of improvement in here. Dont bump up the fees until you do this.If you run into technical glitches in their uplevel portal OR you are facing problems with IK at any level they assign you a troubleshooter a.k.a Student Success Advocate. Daryl was great in helping me with all the problems and complaints I had. Kudos to this guy.In the end, you will have to put in a lot of hard work because this is an exhaustive course which may seem overwhelming. Common, you can manage 2 months. And there are a lot of resource online, but the problem is where to start ! IK provides good guidance and structure, and provides a method to the madness. I was in IK first batch back in 2014. It certainly helped me in interviews to know what to expect from algorithms and data structures. Their whiteboard interview sessions were very good and got rid of my fear when explaining things to an interviewer. The faculty was from FAANG companies and know what is expected. I heard they added other areas like system design, OOP and behavioral and they were not part for the first batch. This is intensive course and one needs to work hard in order to get full advantage of it i.e. doing given home work and etc.

I was referred to Interview Kickstart by a relative and immediately taken aback by the rigor of the program. I participated in the coding subset of the program (the full program offers coding + systems design) and the program included 5 four hour lectures each focusing on data structure/programming technique (trees, dynamic programming, etc.). Participants could ask a question to the lecturer at any moment in time throughout the lecture. Every week, homework problems and a end-of-week-test were to be completed including several problems related to the techniques taught within the lecture. Additional problems relating to more trivial structures, such as strings, stacks, and queues were also included as well as a stream of additional problems concerning the data structures covered in the lecture.Overall, the program kept me very busy and focused. I rarely had doubts that were not immediately resolved by questions to the lecturer or review of the lectures video, which was posted on a private youtube link.The practice problems were of extremely high quality, and while there was significant overlap with LeetCode (as there is for most practice programming problems in existence), problems were selected to broach the most important techniques relating to the data structure at hand. In addition, students can reserve time slots to discuss specific problems 1 on 1 with an instructor.Mock interviews were also included, of which I completed several, and interviewers acted as they would in their respective companies if they were recruiting prospective employees. These are highly recommended and keep you humble, as difficult questions outside of the leetcode collection are frequently asked.Overall the program increased my interviewing confidence substantially, and while it doesnt expose you to all the techniques for the novel programming problems asked by interviewers in top companies, the program provides you with a solid understanding of what data structures to use for a given problem (including their traversals, variants, and transformations), runtime optimization, and the ability to write dynamic programming solutions as easily as recursive solutions.

My journey as a software engineer has not been an easy one. After graduatiing from undergrad a long time ago, I realized that if I was ever going to use the math skills I possessed I was going to have to learn how to program. Given there were no boot camps at the time (it was so long ago :P ), I did the next best thing and went back to school, finding a year long masters program for Computer Science. In hindsight, that program, in its infancy at the time, was not as helpful as it should have been. Much of what we learned was old and outdated and the program lacked rigorous instruction in the single most vital component of Software Engineering interviews, data structures and algorithms. As such I didnt feel very prepared when it came time to interviewing.The job interviewing process for me was a real wake up call and terribly frustrating. I would typically start interviewing, stumbling, struggling, and learning throughout the process until things finally clicked and I was able to land a job. Long story short the process was miserable.A number of years down the road I found myself in the Bay Area, the tech capital of the world and I knew I would have to better my knowledge of software engienering fundamentals if I wanted to successfully receive offers from top companies. I couldnt keep preparing in the manner I had previously. Hence I found Interview Kickstarter.I will start with the difference in my interviewing results at the conclusion of the interview kickestarter program. Previously when interviewing, as I mentioned before, I would essentially struggle and fail through interview after interview, until I finally got one right. Before Interview Kick Starter I had never had more than 2 offers at once. At the conclusion of my latest interview saga, I had been invited onsite to 17 different companies, and had received offers from half of them. Its certainly true that I struggled at times, and didnt quite get offers from the goal companies I had in mind. Nevertheless the difference in interveiw results speak for themselves.The program is extremely rigorous, and while the structure can be too rigid at times, the resources offered to better ones interview skills, whether it be building the core compotency with data structures and algorithms, learning domain knowledge regarding system design, and other soft skills like offer negotation, healthy study habits, and resume building, provided ample opportunity for me to grow in ways I previously thought were not possible.Long story short, joining interview kickstart was the best thing Ive ever done regarding interview preparation for my career. For those who dont have the time to commit, I would caution you against signing up for the program. I was working while I did the program and I spent no less than 20 hours a week doing problem sets. The program is difficult, and will be hard for anyone working full time. The more time you can dedicate to it the better.Best of luck!
