I want to have my data copied outside of my house in case of emergencies. After checking options I decided Idrive fitted my purpose. The NAS integrationd and having my own encryption key was of main importance.The installation and starting the first backup was just minutes of work.
Best price for cloud storage compared to other brands. The GUI could do with modernising as its very dated looking.
It was very easy to sign up and the price for the first year was excellent. I was surprised how quickly it took to back up about 1 TB. It was easy to add folders that werent part of the default set.
I just wanted to let you know that iDrive works as advertised. Nice interface. One word of caution ... If you have a slow upload speed it can take a long time to back up your files.

IDrice replaces 2 online solutions I had been using. A crashed computer prompted the switch over. The competitor had me downloading (thousands) of files 10 at a time (getting the data physically delivered would have cost money, iDrive offers this feature once a year for free I beleieve). Plus I had been using 1 provider for Windows and another for Mac. Now, I use iDrive to back both for the price of just 1 (paying 1/2 of what I was) with an intuitive gui that works on Windows & Mac. So far I am very satisfied.

Idrive has great customer service. I have enjoyed saving money vs the other guys. When using the Google app for idrive online backup or Google photos its been great downloading pretty fast.
Software is easy to install and backups appear seamless. I have not yet tried to restore anything so I can’t comment on that.

Worst customer service ever. I cannot get their files off my computer. I get multiple emails per day, 7 days per week that my backup failed. No kidding. I canceled your service. Now please stop bombarding my emails. They say they will get back to me. It’s been over one month. Nothing. Do not use this company.
The staff there is Premium A+ that work hard and are succeeding in a market with competition of the the bigger names. The CEO is a genius for coming up with the pay structure the more affordable platforms that practically do the same thing for less money. The VP is a savant at promoting and getting the word out about the products to different technical websites that rate data backup and disaster recovery. Would recommend.
Finally decided to pay for an online backup service. Saw good reviews of iDrive. Decent price compared to others and can backup multiple devices to one account. Once past the set-up issues, seems to be working well but only a few days in. Daily backups are pretty quick with my 40Mbps upload speed. Haven’t tried a restore yet but after peeking at that it seems straightforward.Disappointed however they now charge for additional computers after reading reviews saying they didn’t. Website was not fully up to date with their new charging scheme, so some conflicting info cost me some time to ask about that.The default set-up doesn’t select all user data for backup. Not hard but some time spent there to add those and some more exclusions.Biggest annoyance was the throttle setting. Knowing nothing about that it seemed intuitive you might not want it consuming all your upload bandwidth, so I dropped the value. Uploading was going really slow, so I increased it. Even at 90% it was still going really slow, at about a 15% of my rated full upload speed. So, I asked customer support about it and they essentially said it doesn’t really work right and to change it to 100%. Presto, full speed now. Wasted a lot of time there. So, they should fix it or change it to a slow/fast switch (and explain it right on that app page, lots of space!). Also, at 100% I didn’t really notice any issues with typical browsing, mail, etc. use because of course that’s mostly only downloading. So, I’ll just leave it at 100% until I detect an issue.A couple of times I got the spinning beachball after I changed settings for exclusions. First time went really long so I force quit it. Probably didn’t need to as I saw later to just wait and let it catch up. Should show it’s working on something rather than freezing up.Got several errors the first few backups. A couple of times the log claimed “Success” with an asterisk. I’d call those failures (edit: after a while realized these have all been minor glitches that resolve the next backup, so I see why they say Success*). The logs are very long with no hints on what terms to search for like Error Info, idevs (I think that’s what it was), and Info:. Had to add some exclusions due to names too long (didn’t need those backed up anyway), correct a MacOS permissions issue (not iDrive’s fault), and I forget what else.Very minor thing but in the Menu Bar menu it says Start iDrive. Seems it should say Open iDrive because we open apps. Starting sounds like launching a backup.The desktop notification after a backup does not include the most important thing to see and that’s Failure or Success (with or without an asterisk).Edit: Should have noted I use this on 2 Macs. Also, after using a while another annoyance came up. Increasingly after some application updates I get an error that says Reason: A file name with the same directory name already exists. The only fix is to exclude that app from the backup even though Time Machine and CCC can back it up. Perhaps some new app requirement Apple imposed that is spreading?? So this is not like other backup systems that will restore you back as you were, ready to work. If thats what you want use another service. You will have to find app installers for some, and maybe eventually all apps on a Mac at least. And dont expect any help from customer support. They just act like what are doing backing up apps? Just exclude them.

I am a reviews driven consumer using an aggregate of sources to whittle down my choices. After extensive research, I selected iDrive for my backup needs (my family also uses iDrive). iDrive is easy to install, sports an intuitive and friendly interface, and best of all has a skilled and responsive support team for any questions.
Their software has been the same glitchy bugged piece of junk for so many years now. Nothing works as it should.Their tech support is ridiculous to say the least and the backend will never get back to you, forget about it! Abandon any hope if something goes wrong because they just wont!Transfer speed in Europe used to be awful and a little improved in 2022.I seriously have no idea how this company can still be in business. Its a mistery to me.Awful. Beware.
If you cancel, Print Screen for proof as I didnt. Took everything off their server several months in advance too, before the account renewed. Still charged my credit card and refused to give refund. When I called to inquire, was told to reinstate my account and cancel next year. I said, Your company is no longer a GOOD FIT for our company. Very Disappointed in their customer support and For What $59.50.. they must need the money more us..
A zero is not good enough. These guys do not warn for too slow of a connection. I purchased and was unable to use the backup a few days before I left the country. Never logged in but one time. Asked for my money back after I got back and was refused. Then they tried to charge my card for a renewal! I called, spoke with someone, asked for $$ back again, and they said id been using storage. I never even knew I was using storage since I never logged in. I was treated verbally poorly, being told I had to log in to cancel when the email told me to call to cancel. I let their company know through various messages how poor their customer service was, but was ignored, so I am making sure the public knows and doesnt make the same mistake I did. I do not like this companys customer service and lack of forewarning.
I paid for data backup for 10 years thinking that they kept all of my data in storage. I stopped paying for their services in 2017 to use another form of storage. I went to retrieve my information today and they dumped all of my data. I thought they could retrieve my data from their archives and was sadly mistaken. They do not keep any of your old information after you stop paying. Now I have lost 1000s of photos and documents forever. I will never use this type of service again. My whole purpose for using this type of backup system was to hold my data without me having to hold on my computer and use computer space. BEWARE
Good luck getting ahold of support. I recorded 30 minutes of hold time after someone looked up my account.The software and backups are great though. Just not a fan of calling them.
IDrive is a pretty good and easy to use backup program but their tech support is appalling. Instead of actually reading the bug reports and complaints, they always reply with the same message like 1. your request has been sent to developers - same features have been requested for many years and nothing gets done; or 2. we have updated the software, download it and your problem will be fixed - um no, how is the client software update will fix buggy dashboard and web interface to manage backups and check logs? Also, the upload speed is very slow and the best Ive seen was 3.43 mbps - no matter how fast my connection is.
I had an extremely bad experience with the way they auto renewed my 3 or 6 month trial (I dont remember now, its been over a year). I thought it was over and canceled, so I put their emails into spam, BUT it wasnt over.$10,000 later what was just supposed to be my $20 a month personal back up is now a payment until I die.They are closed today, so I have to wait to call them tomorrow and see if they will work with me.I will update this once I hear from them, because if its my fault then I will be fair and change this.
Customer Service sucks. They don’t know anything. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. They just point you to a web url. It’s fine just as long as you don’t need customer support.
Nice backup prices, however dont count on their customer service, its lousy.And their technical support team, doesnt understand how to deal with their own products.In short use a other companies service.
Tldr;If a lower priced cloud backup is all you need then this is a 4 star service otherwise read on...The OS X and IOS apps have issues. On OS X (MAC) the backup app really slows the hard drive access which slows everything down on your MAC. On IOS the mobile app is nowhere near as good as say Google Drive. Also, sharing integration on an iPhone is not as good either. That will probably only matter to you if you frequently share documents or push things to your cloud storage which a hardcore Google Drive or MS OneDrive user will understand.The web access is very clunky and nothing like Google and MS equivalences, which are far better.Anecdotally, I do believe that if you are using your Sync drive access across multiple computers there are times with files dont sync correctly and you may lose changes. But I do believe that has improved a-lot over the past year or so.At this point in time I am considering moving over to Google Drive even though it is a little more expensive, but the Google cloud apps are a tremendous plus.
Poor customer service. I signed up for IDrive because I had heard such great reviews over the radio. I tried to contact IDrive Corporate office and was told I could not speak to anyone other than sales or marketing. I asked to speak to the chairman administrative assistants. I was informed that IDrive did not have a chairman and there was no one else to speak to. I asked for a refund because the system was not working for me nor could I back up my other PC. I was told I could cancel but would not get a refund. Poor customer service.

So far, so good. The initial backup was much faster than I expected and the web interface is easy to understand.
While the software is a bit rough around the edges, it works and the fact it can bring together multiple sources (desktop, mobile, cloud) into one DR platform is great peace of mind.
Ive been using it for about a year and for my simple personal archive backup needs it works perfectly. The possibility of backing up from different sources (in my case PC + Synology NAS) is particularly convenient. The only shortcoming found was the initial slowness in uploading data to the cloud, but this is a problem common to many other similar services. It is very convenient, at the moment the quality/price ratio is excellent.

Would make it so easy for a first timer who had previously no knowledge of the differnt types of backup let alone the terminology.Support was amazing in answering all my 10 plus questions literally in minutes. Not something i expected in Australia

2024-06-13 14:08:48Super easy to use and even though I had 10,000+ photos/videos on my phone it didnt take too long to backup them up. I also connected my husbands phone that was full and he couldnt take anymore pictures and it quickly downloaded them too. It is easy to navigate to the different phones and different albums within iDrive and now the years and years of memories I had on my phone are safe!

2024-06-18 04:49:55I dont like leaving bad reviews. Im much better at writing good ones. But sadly, iDrive didnt care about my data once they lost it. At least that was my experience:I had carefully prepared several files and had already shared them on a support forum when suddenly I lost access. I contacted support and several hours later they said the problem was resolved. Except half my files were gone.I informed them, but they patiently explained that I must have deleted the files myself. I explained that the files had not been deleted but had instead gone missing, and they replied with instructions on using the trash folder---which I dutifully checked, and which was empty.I really wanted to help them find out what had happened so it didnt happen to another customer, but all they would do was respond with boilerplate like we take your concerns seriously (but really we mean please go away).If your data is really important to you I wouldnt recommend storing it with this company.

2024-06-11 20:43:42My company was using iDrive for server backup. We were hit by a ransomware attack. The attacker logged into our iDrive account and deleted all our backed up up files. We lost 25+ years of data. What good are backup files if they are that easy to delete? Shouldnt the files have a time lock on them so that cant all be deleted at once? We created a service ticket with iDrive a week ago and they havent responded yet.They were slow to respond, but they did get our data restored. I am increasing their rating from one star to three.

2024-05-03 16:01:01Ive had it for years and paid a reasonable fee. Never needed it until today. Satish, likely not a guy in the USA, was friggin fantastic. On the phone with me within a couple minutes of calling...remoted into my computer within a few more and fixing issue I was having and showed me how to do a few things Ive wondered about. I would be hard pressed to switch to a different backup provider.
