If I could give 20 stars I would. The staff is friendly including the super valet dudes. The food was delicious, we took advantage of happy hour. The lounge has a beautiful view. We stayed in the amazing townhouse!!!! Fireplace, full kitchen, huge Jacuzzi tub with breathtaking views. We will be back in January for my birthday.

This was the second time my wife, daughter and I have stayed at the Carmel Highlands. This place is stunningly beautiful! The staff are very helpful. Our rooms were clean and ready for us. The front desk staff were helpful in relieving out lost luggage from the airline. The views from the bar and dining room as well as the lounge are jaw dropping. Truly a visual feast for the eyes.

Wow, what a place. We had a townhouse with a king bed and a queen fold out sofa bed. 2 full bathrooms as well as a large Jacuzzi tub. The pool is closed for the summer due to a mudslide but there are two hot tubs in the property.

This is a time share property, located on the side of a mountain. Amazing views. Unless you are part mountain goat or under 50, dont book there. There are stairs to get everywhere and next to none parking. If you lucky to park near your room you still have long walks to get there. There is only valet at the lodge also. Very nice place but not worth the trouble getting around. Excellent restaurant and staff mm

I booked a suite room in such a great location, but they gave me a ridiculous room. They said it was an ocean view, but all I could see was a parking lot and trees. Even the front desk guys dont explain things very well, and the manager doesnt give any options. The hotel services is so bad. In this location and this price is ridiculous. The hotel is also very old and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Booked a Highland suite #541 for our family to surprise my wife for mothers day. Pool was closed and out of service. Room was nothing like the website, filters and editing deceive what you will actually receive. Pretty beat up and outdated which is surprising for Hyatt let alone a suite. Only stayed one night, woke up early mothers day morning with no power. Unable to shower, make coffee, watch TV or use the wifi with dead devices. Front desk said nothing they could do because it was a portion of the city and not just the Inn without power. Unacceptable to not get any sort of compensation or even a voucher for the restaurant. Not returning to this location or any Hyatt for that matter. I would include pictures of the haggard suite we stayed in but phone was dead due to not being able to charge overnight.

We’ve been Hyatt members for many years and truly enjoy their amazing service. This specific location consists of timeshares and to my knowledge, because of its location, it doesn’t have elevators. The units are built on hilly ground and the rooms are in serious need of renovation. However, despite the old interior, the view of the ocean is so spectacular, that all imperfections become insignificant. Please note that unlike most other Hyatt resorts that are pet friendly, this one does not accept pets and there are no ATM machines on the premises. The restaurant has the best disposition, as its elongated spacious design, overlooks the captivating views of the ocean and depending on the time of day, the majestic colorful sky makes the experience even more memorable. My compliments to the management team for resolving couple of issues we had. The food was great, the live music at night was great. We truly love Hyatt and appreciate their service. This location is perhaps the most romantic quick getaway you may find.

You can’t beat this location if you want to stay in Carmel with beautiful views of the ocean. It is very a mile from Point Lobos (although you probably should drive there since there isn’t a sidewalk on Hwy 1), and just a few minutes drive from downtown Carmel.Juan, the valet, and Diana, the hostess at the restaurant went above and beyond in making our stay enjoyable.The 2 reasons for the star deduction is they require you to listen to the timeshare pitch in order to get your parking pass, and the rooms are dated. I really hope they remodel this hotel soon, but I would stay here for the views, especially from the restaurant.

We have been Hyatt Residence Club timeshare “owners” for 15+ years and have stayed at the Highlands Inn many times. All stays PRIOR to our stay beginning February 4, 2024, were wonderful; however, it’s likely we will not return after last week’s stay.As a result of a powerful storm, the power was out to all rooms when we checked in on Sunday and still out (with POSSIBLE restoration late Tuesday night) when we opted to check out on Tuesday (two days early). The lodge/lobby was the only building with generator-produced power in the entire facility. The room was dark and very cold. There was no hot water for showering.As reasonable people, we understand that the power outage is not the responsibility of Hyatt or the inn; however, there was NO acknowledgement of our discomfort by hotel staff. No offer of comped meals or drinks. And, now we are being told that Hyatt will provide NO compensation from, not only the two nights we stayed, but also not for the two nights for which we cancelled. Again, due to the fact that there was no power to the room.Prior to our stay, we had seen several negative reviews indicating the hotel was no longer the five-star hotel it had once been. Sadly, we confirm this to be the case.

Not a hotel but rather individual units set on a hillside overlooking the bay. We were lucky enough to see some whales breaching from our balcony. Great valet service and good breakfast to set you up for visiting Carmel or driving the Big Sur.Had some problems with the heating but shouldnt have visited in mid April in a bad year for weather.

Of all the HVC locations we have been to, these rooms are for sure the smallest. But the view and location are amazing. We got in at midnight and had no idea what was outside our window and when I looked the next day, it just made my day. Getting in the hot tub in the evening with a little wine, I’m not sure there is a better way to end a day, too. It’s a beautiful property. The outside is dated and our water pressure was awful… but for such an old property… I just feel fortunate to get to stay here.Loved the balcony view as well. I did laundry in the building next to ours.I didn’t get to take pictures when we arrived bc it was so late at night, but you get the idea :)

So I have had to update my review as 2 days later I discovered the hotel had charged my card $504 for no reason, 24 hrs later after a fraught and expensive conversation with hotel still no refund or response!Further it’s cost me $15 on currency exchange and €10 on a phone call. Plus according to the agency who booked the hotel. The resort fee should be $22 not $30 I was charged.should have been a Nice place with fantastic views, great staff and choice of food and drinks.Right on highway 1.Bathroom could do with a bit of TLC and heating in room didn’t work

Edit: No one will refund me; Hyatt literally just figured out how to tack $150 onto an already large hotel bill, telling me it was completely refundable, all the sales pitch tactics imaginable, and of course now theres every excuse because it was only refundable in the first 30 days. Now my opportunity to book my next vacation with a multi-hour timeshare presentation required as part of it ends in a few days, and this just feels like a slap in the face. They literally just took my money and wouldnt give it back!!I honestly am just frustrated. I stayed here a few months ago & was offered some wine while I waited for my room ... and they had someone selling me an opportunity to book rooms at a locked-in rate after these free drinks were provided. Basically I just was sold a ticket to a timeshare presentation... it was really unclear what this was and I really dont appreciate being taken advantage of after a few drinks that I had originally perceived as a kind welcome.It really put a damper on my stay to read the pamphlet and feel the hotel determined I was .. like .. easy to manipulate or tired .... I wish there was a way they would make this right. This isnt the right way to treat guests paying such high rates already.

We just spent a week in a timeshare unit with a beautiful partial ocean view. We had a split-level townhouse with full kitchen and two bathrooms. The unit itself was in decent shape, but as seniors we found the fairly steep and narrow stairs to be a little challenging, as well as the parking situation. Our larger vehicle had to be parked in an upper lot, a small hike from our unit. Good thing were in pretty good shape! During check-in at 4, we were informed that that there would be a wait due to the staff being behind in cleaning units. After waiting for about an hour, we received an apology and a $75 credit to use in the resort. Everyone on the staff were great, super friendly. The only noise we encountered was while on the bottom floor of the unit, where there were very loud and noticeable bumps and bangs as the people in the carport spaces below slammed doors and trunks. We didnt watch much TV, but the choices could be better. Very limited channels and choices for this day and age. All in all a good experience.

Very big property on the edge of the California Highway 1 south of Carmel.The location of this place is probably what sells it the most. This was booked through the World of Hyatt program.It is a timeshare property so you have the branch off of Hyatt Carmel Highlands and Hyatt Vacation Club at Highland Inns. You will get some information about their timeshare as well at the property.One thing that needs improvement is their check in line. They have a sign for World of Hyatt Elite members, and they do not honor it, as they have just one line for everyone right at the entrance of the property lobby. This was a poor design as it clutters everyone at the front at 4 pm, leaving a bunch of cars clogging the front of the property and a bunch of people clogging the entrance for anyone not trying to check in.A useful thing about the property is that they have free valet and you can park multiple cars too, so its good to meet up with multiple people if you have multiple cars.However, a disappointing thing for EV users is that despite the big property, they have a small spot for their EV chargers. There are a total of 3 chargers, 2 Tesla and 1 regular J1772 charger, but one Tesla was non functional. This leaves 2 EV chargers, and in California, you have plenty of EVs.The visit to the property was during a time where their pools were closed which was a bit disappointing. They normally have pools and hot tubs at the property.They also have a fitness center and a laundry room and they provide laundry detergent too.Breakfast was provided to us as a Globalist and they have a card for 1 Entree+1 Drink+1 Juice per person based on the total people in the room at their restaurant in the lobby which has nice views of the Pacific Ocean.The room was a nice room, using a suite upgrade to lock in an Oceanview Suite. It consists of two stories, with the living room, kitchen, balcony and half bathroom on the top floor/entrance, and the bedroom and large bathroom at the bottom floor. It is nice they include a lot of stuff in the Kitchen, like a real vacation rental, sponges, plates, glassware, utensils, etc. It also has an electric fireplace on the hotel rooms and a real wood fireplace on the timeshare side. Firewood is all around the property as well. The room does show its dated parts and it seems like it is due for renovation soon.Overall a decent stay, but there is room for improvement for the property.

We got a suite and the ocean view rooms, the giant jetted tub was just as promised if not better. The kitchen with microwave was great to have.We had a great time here and will be back!The property is beautiful and the Pacific’s Edge restaurant has amazing breakfast and service staff.The only negative is the wood fire smoke from a the fireplaces kept making me sick. A property like this should convert to gas fireplaces.

My anticipation for my stay at this hotel was high, but unfortunately, it ended in profound disappointment. While the picturesque views were remarkable, numerous shortcomings regarding customer service and the room itself overshadowed the experience. For example, despite being informed that wed receive a notification when our room was ready due to our early arrival, no communication was received even well beyond the promised time of 4 pm. When we politely raised this concern, the front desk staff denied any problem. To add to the dissatisfaction, my $34 omelette contained eggshells, a glaring oversight. Furthermore, the room was very dusty, tired, and worn-out. These were just a few of the examples of the disappointment, especially given the high price tag associated with the hotel.Additionally, its worth noting, although not necessarily anticipated but typically appreciated, we found it necessary to inquire about our globalist benefits upon arrival. Disappointingly, several of these benefits, such as early check-in/late check-out/possible upgrades, were not possible at this particular hotel. The overall experience fell significantly short of my expectations.

While the room we stayed in (519) was a little on the tired side, the ocean view was spectacularly wonderful, space was plentiful, layout was good, bed was comfy, kitschy faux fireplace was fun, and the hot tub was close by.Every staff interaction was great. :)The view from the lobby/bar area is not to be missed. Food and drinks were delicious. Worth a stop even if youre just passing by.Ill happily return.

Please PLEASE UPGRADE your hot tubs... it feels like they were built in the 70s... with all the money u guys make, you can at least get better hot tubs. They are sooo small and old 😔💔💔2. I never order anything from your bar or restaurant menu because nothing looks that good... if you can, please revamp it. The front desk manager (Cheyanne Misenheimer) was unexplainably rude, lied about the room availability kept interrupting and then just hung up. We had to reach out to the Director of operations (Aaron Dominguez) with our questions because talking to Cheyanne is an extremely unpleasant experience. For some reason she aims to demean the guests.Im really surprised that Hyatt lets her stay and work at their properties because shes an absolute deterrent for the guests. Just because of her we are not coming back here.

We were extremely disappointed with this hotel. Upon arrival, we were immediately put off by the smell of burning wood, which permeated the air. It took us an additional 15 minutes to locate our room after receiving the keys. Upon entering the room, our disappointment deepened. The rooms, contrary to the appealing images online, turned out to be very old with creaking floors. The pervasive smell of burning wood, originating from the fireplaces in the main lobby, was overwhelming. Also there was a sewer smell in the bathroom. Adding to our disappointment, we were given a malfunctioning refrigerator that emitted a loud rattling noise, rendering sleep nearly impossible.Despite requesting a room change, our request was denied. Around 11 PM, noisy neighbors from the floor above arrived, disrupting any hope of a peaceful night. Our ceiling constantly creaked, and the soundproofing was so poor that we could hear every word spoken by the neighbors.In addition, within an hour of being in the room with the strong smell of burning wood, I developed a severe cough. The odor of burnt wood, presumably from the fireplaces in the main lobby, was not only unpleasant but also had a noticeable impact on my respiratory well-being. The discomfort escalated to the point that we could not stay any longer than a few hours in the hotel. This experience was not only disappointing but also had adverse effects on our health.In the end, we spent no more than 2-3 hours in the hotel, packed our belongings, and checked into another hotel.It has now been over a month, and we have yet to receive a refund for our unpleasant stay.

Underwhelming hospitality at a premium price. Staff outrightly denied breakfast which I had clearly booked and paid extra for. Even after showing the voucher, I was just asked to contact my booking agency. Spent $80 outside for breakfast after wasting 1 hour with the staff. Also, rather than checking with the manager immediately and helping, the front desk staff just said that they’ll check later. This destroyed my stay and excitement which could’ve been so much better otherwise with great views and rooms they’ve to offer. Not to mention completely left feeling humiliated apart from all the time wasted which we could’ve spent exploring the beautiful country side.

Celebrated a friends wedding here and it was really wonderful! The view of the oceans and sunset were just absolutely spectacular. Wedding food can be hit or miss sometimes but the dinner we had was really good. Both the fish and short rib were cooked perfectly. Parking was fairly ample on the premises and they even have some EV charging stations. Overall a great venue for a wedding!

That is the most bizarre twist the rooms literally have decor from the 70s not mind you new like it has been here since the 70s !The bathrooms Have very dated sinks and faucets,the wall paper is not bright and alive the bed nightstands are late 70s.Honestly the rooms are not as good as you guessed it( Ill leave the light on for you!)All this being said the staff is all extremely wonderful the pool the Grounds Beautiful.So yes the Million Dollar Question would I stay here again.Answer a resounding yes!!!

Personally, I had an okay experience. However, the service at this hotel is poor and management is disconnected. I was double charged and I informed them regarding the scenario and they were unresponsive and unhelpful in this matter. I had to chase them down for weeks and they then told me it was up to me to fix the issue.

When it comes to weddings, as a wedding photographer, I look at views, spots for photos, staff, and catering options. This place hits the nail on the head for all of it! Hostess was a bit snobbish because we didn’t have a reservation.There is no snack shop or water available at the hotel.The entry to the hotel/residence club is kind of dangerous because it’s off a curvy, busy road and requires a sharp turn to get to the buildings. People are not very careful entering and exiting the property on the narrow, curvy road leading to/from the main buildings.Parking also was challenging.Don’t arrive after dark.

The location is incredible. You cant get any better. The problem is the room that we stayed in.For starters, there were spiderwebs all around the room, especially above the air conditioning unit and behind the table. Ive uploaded some photos of it.We messaged the staff and showed them photos but they responded too late in the evening but told us they would get to it in the morning. The next day when we got back into the room in the afternoon, they fixed up the room but ignored the dust and spiderwebs that we originally complained about.Then as we were going to jump into the shower, the shower handle was broken. The staff did come quick to try and fix it but they needed to order a part but was able to make it work temporarily. The staff offered to move to the room next door so we could shower, but it was already cutting it close because we had a wedding that we had to leave in under 2 hours.

Mixed feelings about this Hyatt. The location is stunning and the hotel itself is gorgeous. You can expect super clean rooms and friendly staff. I appreciated the extra special touches like them sending a bottle of complimentary champagne to our room for our anniversary. They also gave you a free glass of champagne at check-in. And cucumber water too. The lobby is fantastic.The negatives, they wouldnt allow us to check out late or check in early even though we are World of Hyatt members. Also our room had an ocean view but was hard to get to. It was a shame having to carry our luggage so far. They are doing construction which was right beside our room and therefore the parking spots close to us were blocked. I cannot say this a quiet hotel either because you can hear the people in the above rooms. We heard tons of stomping around, it even woke us up at 2 am. The bathrooms really need updated too. For the price I expected modern rooms.

Dreamy cliff top location. Very pleased with the one bedroom suite we were given directly overlooking the ocean, only thing affecting our view of the ocean was the fog! Room was updated nicely and location convenient to Carmel and Monterey. Beautiful, hilly property with blooming flowers throughout.We were on a tour of northern to southern California so needed to do laundry and wish the laundry was more convenient, only 3 washers for the property. Otherwise everything was fabulous!

Beautiful location. Had great views of the bay and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve (about 1.5mile walk).We had room 208 which I was told is part of their Timeshare rentals. With that said there is no A/C or heater. It rarely gets super hot but be warned should it be hot during your stay. The best they have is a fan in 2023.Otherwise the rooms are great. Balcony had great views. No complaints with the room. Pool and jacuzzi are a walk away but not bad. Restaurant on the grounds was also yummy.Overall would recommend this hotel due to its location, views, and amenities.

Ive been coming here for many years. The location is one of a kind with a fabulous view overlooking Yankee Point and Point Lobos State Park. You have some fine oceanfront mansions for neighbors. If you like sitting on your private balcony or in the lodge sipping a beverage and taking in the view, then you may love it here.Rooms are spacious and functional, set up well for stays of a week or more. Our room was renovated (refreshed) in early 2023 I believe, with new furniture, appliances and flooring.This may not be a great choice for active families though -- its not a resort and there are not a lot of things to do at the hotel itself. If youre going to be out exploring all day and dont care about the view here, you may as well stay somewhere less expensive.

Loved our stay here. The view from the room was absolutely amazing! We liked that the room had a fire place too, which was nice when the night temp dropped. The staff was friendly and helpful and we had a delicious dinner with another amazing view at the on site restaurant. And as an added bonus, the bath amenities were vegan and cruelty free.The hotel was a little hard to find at first, but it ended up being a great location and close to many different activities that were just a short drive away.We couldnt have picked a better place to stay in the area, and will definitely stay there again.

If youve come to trust Hyatts branding and pricing as an indicator of quality, this property will come as an unpleasant surprise. Ive stayed at dozens of the very worst Hyatt Places (including many that since have lost the branding), and none of those rooms were as dated and dingy as the rooms are here. My room (which was premium enough to have a full ocean view) was more in line with a Motel 6. Obviously everyone comes here for the location and that is as expected, though a major road stands between the hotel and the water, making it less serene than you might imagine (even now with the road closed south of here).My room had a cheap electric mock-fireplace, not as pictured in the description. My towels had stains, and my whole room smelled so old and musty that I left the door and window open for hours in the cold.The service by staff was perfect and the restaurant was great. But with the prices charged here, these rooms should have gone through at least four more full renovation cycles by now. I have to assume that the outsized wealth of the SF Bay Area is the only reason this hotel has so many positive reviews -- anyone living in the real world will find prices of ~$700/night inconceivable when they see the rooms. Oh, and the mind-boggling full name of this property is like something out of a corporate satire and legitimately creates confusion.

We called the hotel 2 months prior to our stay and we were told by the Hotel rep that we had an expansive view of the ocean from our room. We actually had a room with an expansive view of the resort road, a half dozen or so trees (almost all of our view), and maybe a tiny amount of ocean if you leaned waaay out.The room was extraordinarily outdated. There were multiple lights that did not work. We had to request more towels because there werent enough towels for even 2 people.The best part of the stay was the New Years Eve dinner at the restaurant, which is not affiliated with Hyatt at all. Our New Years Eve dinner was wonderful.Upon leaving the hotel, I called and requested help with our bags since I had torn knee cartilage and we had multiple levels of stairs to climb with our luggage. I was told by the front desk that help would be down in 10 minutes. We waited 50 minutes and another useless call to the front desk before we were forced to carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs just to get to the pool level. It wouldnt have been a big deal, except for the fact that I had asked the front desk 7pm prior to our morning departure if I could arrange for help with our bags. I was reassured multiple times that I would simply need to call the front desk upon our departure in the morning.This hotel was the worst run establishment that we had ever stayed in on a trip. The service was awful, the staff told you only what you wanted to hear without any results, and the price point was over triple the amount that a per night stay is worth. STAYING THERE WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE THAT WEVE EVER MADE IN OUR TRAVELS.We have another trip to Carmel coming up in October and we are going to stay elsewhere because it we know that it will ensure that we have a better trip to Carmel. The Hyatt Carmel Highlands simply isnt worth the money, the trouble, the inconvenience, and the disappointment to stay there.The only thing noteworthy at this establishment is the regret one will have when staying there and the profound disappointment in the Hyatt label for allowing this establishment to represent the Hyatt name. We wont ever stay in a Hyatt property ever again.

I recently stayed at this hotel for my first time to celebrate my SO’s birthday. Upon arrival, the receptionist was very friendly and it was nice of them to offer us complimentary champagne. As we walked out of the building to find parking and our room, the valet worker was very rude and asked if we “were even able to get a room” even though we already had reservations booked. The only way to get to our room was down a steep road and 3 flights of stairs which was inconvenient as we had our bags with us.The room itself was alright. They were very nice to have given my SO a bottle of champagne for his birthday. What made me upset was upon opening the door there were already bugs on the ceiling and a large spider in the shower. The bathroom floors are very cold tile so either bring socks or slippers. Bed was comfortable and the fire place was a nice touch. Room walls are very thin so we heard other people stomping around above us and nearby around 5-6am. The view was my favorite part of the room but I won’t be paying this much again just for a view so I will not be returning.

The view from our room should get 10 Stars. As I’ve mentioned, the rooms themselves are a little dated but the views are spectacular. It is also a little challenging to check in, drive to your room, unload yourself, and then have to move your car to a different parking lot. Because it’s a one-way circle you have to leave around every time you get your car. The restaurant Pacific Edge was a little warm (direct sun on a hotter than average day) the night we went but in the mornings it was perfect. Great food, great service, and views that were worth every penny. They also had some live entertainment one night with a piano player named Dino who was excellent.We spent three nights in the Carmel Highlands Hyatt and absolutely loved the experience. We have stayed in nicer rooms but I’ve never had these kind of views anywhere in the world.

This USED to be one of our most favorite places to stay. It had been 8-10 years since wed been and decided it was time to get out of the Maui heat where we live and enjoy some cool Carmel weather. The hotel was completely booked but thats what happens when you book a trip last minute in the middle of summer. We are Hyatt Lifetime Globalists and always get treated very well at Hyatt properties, be it with upgrades or at the very least, a hand-written note and a bottle of wine in the room. Not here. Upon check-in, the nice ladies at the front desk talked up our room and said it was an upgrade but that was false - it was the room we booked but since they were sold out we couldnt move. Rooms in the past always had amazing views but this room had a peek-a-boo view of the ocean, with the majority of the view being the resort road and rooftops of rooms nearby. Not a single thing in the room has changed since our last visit, and mind you, it was severely in need of a remodel back then! So ugly, so outdated, so dark, and just old. Shower is a joke, and even the bath towels are a nasty, dingy white. All fine for a roadside motel but for a Hyatt charging $900 a night for a room, this was robbery! No water bottle refilling stations like any decent hotel has, no room service, breakfast at the restaurant only until 10, and almost no plant-based offerings on the menus. And if youre used to AC, forget it. Sadly, we will never return.

This is a review solely to judge an event that was not handled well by the hotel management. I had a non refundable booking done weeks in advance for this place to plan a special trip with my wife. We had booked many other things obviously lots of them non refundable to get the best available rate. The hotel called us and told us we needed to cancel our booking due to renovation two weeks before our arrival date. They didn’t even help us with this but told us to call the main reservation line and ask for a cancellation of our booking. They offered no help to this big inconvenience and no sort of compensation or at least something to make us feel better as we were still looking to come back to the hotel again in the future. When I reached out to the hotel about it, they solely said no incentives or compensations will be provided. I’m very disappointed in the way this was handle on their end especially from a higher end brand of Hyatt. I’m sure services and locations of the hotel are excellent though as people mention. Again this was solely to the customer service experience received. Hopefully they treat on site guests with more courtesy.

Wish I’d read the low reviews before booking, at $850/night you expect a certain minimal qualitative standard, which was absolutely missing here. Think 3 star roadside motel quality, NO AIRCON, so very hot rooms with no way to cool them down, even though its April so not actually very hot yet. Everything years past their due date, not exaggerated. Apparently these units are privately owner rather than Hyatt-owned, so there’s probably a resistance to updating rooms to a normal Hyatt standard.The restaurant is also subpar, but at premium prices. Dishes come out when ready, rather than at the same time, so either be rude and eat when it comes out or wait 5-10 minutes for food to come so everyone can eat. Road noise is a definite, not overpowering, but audible for sure. Beware of the narrow passageway between the bathtub and wall to get to the toilet, stubbed my toe twice. And, while it theoretically sounds romantic to have your own fireplace, it also means the room smells a combination of smoke and whatever hospital cleaner they use to try to eliminate the smell.The only reason I give it two stars is because the view from the rooms and the restaurant are unquestionably stunning.

I would give 5 starts just for the location, we booked a room with partial view and was surprised with the view it has an amazing full view. At night we could hear the calming wave sound from the ocean. Clean place. Loved my stay with my family at this Hyatt! They had such amazing customer service. To start, went there for my sisters birthday and they upgraded us to a beach view because it was available! I accidentally forgot my expensive headphones at the bar and they had their own lost and found at the service desk when I retraced my steps and went back to get it from them. They had it and even asked me to specifically describe it which I really appreciated as you never know who can get them. I wish they provided slippers because it did not feel clean enough to take my shoes off. Be warned there are bed bugs. I woke to dots of blood on my sheet, plus black dots. The hotel has been cooperative and after investigating, admitted bed bugs were present. Pele at the front desk has been phenomenal. Also the carpet has a strong deodorizer smell and the air is thick from smoke every evening from the fire pit or individual fireplaces in each room. I literally could only open the door for one second and had to slam it shut. Such a disappointment - this hotel badly needs a huge makeover. Best vacation spot on the Central coast! The Inn sits right above the Ocean, with spectacular views of the California Coastline!! All the rooms feel like apartments!! Theyre huge, even the one bedroom, and the two bedroom has an upstairs! Every unit has a kitchen and jetted tub! Also, a fireplace and screens that pull out from the wall for added privacy within the suite. Love!! Every room also has a balcony with sitting area overlooking the ocean. Im convinced there is not a bad room in the whole place! We enjoy whale watching and the nightly jazz at sunset. The pool is saltwater filtered, which just feels more luxurious than the rest, and hot tubs are located in several places, very close to your room. The gym is well stocked with equipment, and Im always alone when I go workout. Last but not least, there are bikes to borrow and bbq grills, truly lovely grounds with a view fire pit, and a very posh restaurant, my husband and I have a favorite place in town, so we tend to eat in room, or in Carmel proper. Lovely Hotel in a stunning area!

I was worried about staying here bc of so many bad reviews but I am a Hyatt globalist and wanted to at least try it out. The front desk told me I had no parking near my room and that valet would park my car and show me around. Left my room at 530pm and came back at 8pm to find someone cleaned the bed I hadn’t slept in yet, I just pulled the comforter back and they restocked more water as I only drank 1 before I left. They also closed the curtain. It was a little scary as I had left valuables in my room not knowing housekeeping would come in at all and I JUST checked in and hadn’t slept at all yet. Wouldn’t they have a schedule that that room was already cleaned prior to my check in? I think 1 night was enough here.

My wife and I were married at this formerly beautiful hotel. We visited it over 6 years from 2006 till 2012. We returned in 2021 and were quite disappointed. Service was notably down, no longer could you get bemreakfast delivered. We built our own home and took note of a lack of upkeep to the rooms, paint and past water leaks to the rooms. We had to find a fan in the closet and that only made it slightly better, the showers were the most complicating thing in the world. This hotel was meant to be a highlight of a long awaited holiday in California. What a disappointment. Hugely expensive, chaotic, poor service. There is a truly bizarre policy whereby rooms are refused to you if you arrive before 16.00 - when we arrived at about 15.10 on Sunday 29 May, we were told in no uncertain terms - twice!! - that check in could not be before 16.00. The man checking us in offered no apology, no refreshment, and begrudgingly agreed that we could wait in the bar area, and swore up and down that we would be texted the moment our room was ready. Whilst we waited, the incredibly kind and helpful Josh, the chef, made us feel welcome with cold drinks and snacks. We waited until 16.15, no text. There was a long queue at check in, everyone being told that their rooms were not ready. Guests are chucked out at 10.00 every day, what on earth can they be doing for over 6 hours per room? This policy creates a lot of bad feeling, we observed over the following days, because our room overlooked the arrivals/valet parking area.Amber checked us in, apologised nicely for the wait and gave us a small credit for our trouble. Then we went to the room........ Grotty carpet, dim lighting, stinky shower with a shower head that could not be lowered (and nothing happened to improve the shower, despite a complaint to reception). This room (411) has clearly not been decorated for decades. The kitchen was as clean as could be, but ancient. The building is not well sound insulated and we could hear everything from the room above. Earplugs were essential. The bed was a good one, though we did have to request extra blankets.We dined at the Pacifics Edge restaurant that first evening, we were well looked after by Colin, and Joshs food was very good. But we were determined to spend no more money with this Hyatt.This place is simply not good enough. We have stayed in 2 other hotels nearby, during this holiday - one in Half Moon Bay, and one in Santa Cruz - and neither have these fierce no-room-service, no-housekeeping, no-check-in-before-16.00 inhospitable policies. The view from our room was very pleasant, but does not remotely justify the price level we were charged; we could have stayed at the Savoy Hotel in London for what we paid here. Never again.

The only reason this is a problem is because Hyatt charges so much. What a joke the pictures on the internet is not what you get. There is also the smell of dampness and mold. My fiancé and I celebrated Valentine’s Day early at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands and loved the time we spent there! As globalists we upgraded for free to a spacious Oceanview Townhouse Spa Suite which I highly recommend booking. Dinner at the on-site restaurant Pacific’s Edge had a nice menu and breathtaking views. We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer and the bone in ribeye and halibut as our main courses. Very nice hotel. Horizons bi-level suite is like a 1-bedroom townhome. Very roomy. Styling is older - you can be kind and say retro-70s chic. Service was solid, and the restaurant serves good food, but the prices are high. Not much walkable from the hotel, so plan to drive if you are staying more than 1 night.Negatives include thin walls and balconies that are close to each other, so you are relying on having well behaved neighbors. Pricing is high, but not as high as it would be if it was a pristine modern build - not for one of the most expensive coastlines anyway. Would stay again.

Beautiful views, amazing location and a real fireplace to top it off. Front desk and bell staff are always friendly and ready to help with anything. After checking in a staff member follows you to your car, once you park they help you unload all of your luggage into a golf cart and give you a ride to your room and lend a hand with luggage the whole way there. They do a good job of making their customers feel like V.I.P!The only negative comment I have is one night I was woken up by a man (no name tag or employee shirt) at the door telling me to be quiet down because the person in the room next to me called to complain. Not sure what that was about considering I had been asleep, also not sure why he would say who it was that complained. Seemed very strange and unprofessional.

My husband and I got married here in February. Amazing location with beautiful views of the coast. Great upkeep of the property. The chef, Benoit, is incredibly nice and made exceptional food. Sheena, the day of coordinator, was unbelievable and truly went the extra mile. The week of the wedding a huge storm hit Carmel and knocked the power out and Sheena took care of everything to ensure our day remained perfect and dreamlike. The entire staff truly made our wedding day the best day. The hotel rooms themselves are also amazing with remarkable views. We definitely plan on staying there again in the future!

This has to be one of the most beautiful hotels on the coast. Love the private rooms. Fireplaces in every unit really bring a cozy home yet romantic feeling. Terrible hotel.We arrived to find out there was no water in the room. When we asked why we were not notified before our arrival they said it had just happened. When we spoke to the water co crew working on the property they said they had been there for more than 8 hours.We were given a different room under the restaurant. No pads on the wooden chairs feet made for a 6:00 wake up every morning.The furniture in the room was typical of the white ikea build your own. They discounted the room after complaining. The rate went from 800.00 per night to 600.00.This room was comparable to an old inn at 125.00 per night (at best).

Room is nice. Older structurly but kept up well. Fireplace in room is not gas. They have matches and wood inside ready to go. LCD is small for room (see pic). Some rooms look like they likely dont have a good view. So chance is gonna play a role here. Now for the 3 star part. No idea why all the hotels avoid sound proofing. There are neighbors above us and we hear EVERYTHING. We were woken multiple times to them stomping and talking. We thought theyd sleep in since they were up so late but at 7 am stomping and talking again. I dont believe they are being excessive necessarily. It is simply thin walls. If you are a heavy sleeper or dont mind noise this is a nice spot although way too expensive in my opinion for what you get. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Resorts restaurants are closed and not sure why at this point.

This is a very nice hotel that is set up more like a resort. The rooms are a little spread out & have private entrances. Our room was very spacious! The views are amazing from the ocean view rooms (if it isnt too foggy). Customer service is top notch without being intrusive. They have turn down service, valet parking, rides to/from your room in golf carts when requested, outdoor pool & hot tub (but check the weather bc it is chilly there even in the summer). Nobody mentions that the smoke from everyone elses chimney blows into your open windows and onto your deck making it unpleasant. Wobbly deck furniture, fraying carpet, and black grout in the bathroom make you question its 4 star rating.Service in the restaurant was so slow it was more like being ignored. It forced us to become those people which we hate.But, the reception staff (Michael) was warm and welcoming and even acknowledged my birthday, which was unexpected and lovely. Truly and absolutely disappointing, most certainly not recommended. Pros: excellent views (provided room has a view - some dont), laundry room, adequate gym, road noise low, wood fireplace in room. Cons: rooms in significant need of a refurbishment (or a total teardown, especially the bathroom - its like an old motel), extremely tight parking, small pool and very small hot tub. Room quality is about on-par with a Hyatt House or a Holiday Inn Express. For a category seven hotel (per Hyatt) and the price per night, it is most certainly not worth the price. If youre wanting the view, try the restaurant/bar inside the lobby for lunch or for dinner (it has views). The Hyatt Carmel Valley or Hyatt Regency Monterey are highly suggested as alternatives. Globalists: we did not receive a room upgrade, and breakfast was not entirely covered. We have also not been credited our night by the hotel (we show payment, but no nightly credit). Folks with ADA concerns, this hotel has a lot of stairs, narrow areas, and steep roads on-property; its not recommended.

This is my first time in this hotel at Carmel. The location and the views are amazing but few negative things stood out. First, the wifi was horrible, second the hotel definitely needed some updates to their carpet and maybe the bathrooms. The staff were very professional and friendly. Close enough to the center and Carmel Village but far enough to enjoy the quietness and serenity at night. However, The building is fairly old but, the decor is decent so I am ok with that, however, we wanted to get away from the fire smoke only to be breathing it here because other units using wood burning fireplaces in the rooms. Amazing location! I picked it because it was in Hyatts highest category of hotel and I was looking for a nice weekend getaway. Theres a rich, interesting history to this hotel, dating back to when it was built in 1917. Its well kept for its age, and the GM surprised us with a nice bottle of Prosecco for the anniversary we were celebrating. The only downsides were a clogged shower drain that was addressed while we were out for the day, and our garden view room only had one window with only a blackout curtain that I didnt want to leave open because it would leave the entire room in full view of the pedestrian path 5 feet away. But overall, I really enjoyed my stay there.

Finally, the manager came and magically found our room to be available.The size of the suite is perfect, but the furniture was mismatched and really old. It could be age - but our room on this 46th anniversary trip was even better than that we had for our honeymoon! Great view, every need anticipated and met. There were even an umbrella and *binoculars* in the room! Although the weather was chilly, the hot tub was more than welcoming. The on-site restaurant, while a bit pricey, was absolutely delicious and staffed with efficient servers. Everyone working there was helpful and we felt welcome and much appreciated. Specially want to call out the Guest services Staff Monica and Veronica for their great service during check-in and check-out. They even surprised my wife with a bottle of sparkling wine for her birthday!The rooms had a great view of the Big Sur coastline and the usual Hyatt amenities. They were a little small for Hyatt standards maybe due to the layout on the hillock - but the staff and service definitely made up for it.I also want to call out Sam from the valet services who was great during our check-out, the hotels laid out on multiple levels and we had a bunch of luggage which needed to be ferried around.Overall: Great location and views for a getaway from the hustle. Hyatt Carmel Highlands is a difficult place to review. On one hand the area is beautiful and the view, weather permitting, is gorgeous from the restaurant. The design of the main building and rooms are tastefully done. The only problem is the rooms seem like they used to be an old motel. If you get a bottom room youll hear footsteps from the people above. While you have an ocean view the view doesnt compare to the main lodge. Another note if you end up there during a freak heat wave like we did be prepared that the main building does not have air conditioning. We ended up not eating at all there since it was so hot.

We had a spacious ocean-view suite, consisting of a bedroom and living room with a sleeper sofa, which could be separated by a wood partition. The bathroom was huge, but the space was mainly taken up by a humongous Jacuzzi which we did not use. The kitchenette was a plus. However, the furnishings were dated and certainly not up to the super-premium prices charged. Service was also a bit... odd. Not bad, because housekeeping did show up quickly when we called. However, for instance, we used the sofa bed on the first night and so we were expecting to find it open and remade for the night. Instead, housekeeping had folded back the sofa, so we had to call for service to have it set up as a bed.Overall, the view and the location more than made up for these issues, and we had a great time. I called the front desk through my phone and waited 15 mins just to inform them of this incident. I came here for my birthday. We got here 2 hours before check-in so we went to the restaurant. The food was fantastic. The clam chowder was better than anything we tried on the wharf in the past. The prices were reasonable. When we got to our room it was very nice. They upgraded us to a king suite. the fireplace was preloaded with the paper and the wood so all we had to do was light a match. That was perfect. My only complaint was the enormous size hot water heater in the closet was set on 100 degrees, barely warm to the touch and when we filled the jacuzzi tub that was big enough for both if us, it turned cold before we could even get in. I called the front desk, no answer. I called housekeeping, no answer. I push 0 on the phone to get an operator and they sent somebody up within 2 minutes. He only turned the water heater up to 125 degrees. Still not hot enough to have a warm bath by the time the tub got full enough. Other than that I would have given this place a five-star.

I had my wedding here a few weeks ago and this hotel went above and beyond my expectations. Coming from Chicago, I was not able to see any of it or meet any of the staff in person before my big day. Arriving there, everything was organized and the staff was incredibly helpful and made us feel completely comfortable. From the friendly greeting when we arrived, to the amazing room we stayed, to the couples massage the next day, we were blown away. The dinner after our ceremony was beautiful and the wait staff were incredible at their jobs. They genuinely made us feel special and wanted to do everything they could to make our experience a great one. It was a day and night to remember. I would recommend this hotel and the restaurants inside to anyone!

It would be hard to find a better view property than the ocean view rooms here. But it will cost you $900/night or $1500+ per night if you have the gall to stay an extra night in car week season. And currently their restaurant is not open for dinner. Figure that one out. Bfast and lunch no dinner. ANNOYING IN THE EXTREME. it’s not like you can walk 5 or 10 minutes to someplace else. Little else goes on here. Pool sketchy because of microclimate spa not available in COVID TIME. Despite several past positive experiences we’re done here.

Nice ocean views, and cozy cottages with real fireplaces. The only problem is that the place smells of burnt wood all the time. Given the relatively high room rate, it is surprising and disappointing that a breakfast is not included. The bed was clean, as well as the carpet. The bathroom was clean but was rather too simple, and the toilet seat was very low. There is no sink in the bathroom itself, which is inconvenient. The parking and cottage locating process was rather a maze, and needed a map to determine where both could be. They had mugs instead of paper cups for the coffee machine, so I couldnt take the coffee cup with me checking out early in the morning.

The views were great but service was ATROCIOUS. I honestly couldn’t believe the quality at the price you pay to stay there.When we arrived, there was a real traffic jam to get checked in. Once we managed to find a place to park and get our keys, the lady at the reception said- the valet will show you to your room and he’ll with luggage. Ok, we go outside- there’s a huge queue of cars and no staff. One guy runs up to people parked ahead of us, and starts fretting with those guys. He shouted at us: I’ll be back! Meanwhile, we are blocking way for other people to park and go check in as there’s simply nowhere to park otherwise. It was ridiculous- check in hours and you have one guy trying to manage it?!?! Never seen this in any other Hyatt. We ended up driving off and looking for our room ourselves ( the hotel is in the cliff so it’s not a straightforward layout)Other things: no dinner at the hotel, no one brings you extra teabag when you ask for one, no soap in the room… just very dissatisfactory . Probably would say the worst Hyatt stay for me. Don’t bother going!

My sister, 2 friends and I stayed here in January, 2017 and we had a great time. The views were amazing and we were close to Carmel and Monteray so there was plenty to do. We had breakfast and lunch in the restaurant which was good and the service was excellent. We thought the dinners were a little to pricey for us though. We woke up to the electric being out the first day but they provided us with coffee at the main lobby. We needed extra towels and bath robes and they provided them expediently. The rooms were cleaned daily and it was comfortable for all of us. My sister had a time share so the cost of the room was not an issue.

Wonderful views from the Ocean View room, except its always cloudy. The only place you could at are the restaurants in the hotel, which actually makes great food but quite expensive. We had dinner at the Sunset Lounge the first as the restaurant was fully booked. We had Brussels sprouts (good) and pulled pork sliders (good). The next night we had dinner a the restaurant and we had the steak, the halibut and the California salad, plus 2 glasses of wine. $200 bill! The breakfast we had eggs Benedict which were delicious !

The hotel is not in Carmel but a little south of it in Carmel Highlands. Its just the next city down on Hwy 1. Beautiful hotel up on the hill with amazing views. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly.

My wife and I had our wedding here this past November and it was beyond perfect. The view & venue are absolutely breathtaking! That is why we were so interested in it in the first place...then we met Sheena, the wedding coordinator, and thats what really solidified the choice. She went above and beyond putting both my wife and Is stress at ease. The cocktail hour and dinner was absolutely delicious. Top notch meal that I wish we could enjoy everyday. Our guests and ourselves couldnt stop talking about it...and we still dont! The wedding was perfect from the very start to finish! We will be back for our anniversary! The view from the room was about the only thing I enjoyed while staying here and even that was obstructed by the construction that was being done right outside my balcony. The walls and the ceiling are ridiculously paper thin, every step from the guest above sounded like stomping. Numerous times I thought someone was going to fall through the ceiling on top of me. The bathrooms are outdated and there was a creepy window that made you think someone was going to crawl through. Oh and goodluck finding parking near your room, you will have what feels like a mile hike with your luggage. The room was not worth the rate and I will not stay here again nor will I ever recommend it.

Beautiful place to stay. Next to Point Lobos ocean scenic hiking location. Very spacious rooms with all the amenities. Rooms have kitchens, own balcony, and fireplace, as well as separate living spaces. Also available as timeshares. Restaurants and bar on site with awesome ocean views, and a spacious lounging area. Gym, swimming pool, and even bikes are available. Close enough for short drive to great restaurants, 17-mile drive, or Carmel-by-the-sea, etc. Staff was great. Would recommend and return.

Good location, had some issues with the room. The layout is kind of strange, the bedroom isn’t really a room to begin with (it can just be separated from the main area with some wood panels). The main problem was the bathtub, however. The thing has a faucet that’s the same as the sink, meaning it takes about 30 minutes to fill the thing halfway. Be mindful about the jets, too. I filled the water above the jets, enough that they were fully submerged. Even despite this, the jets turned on and began to spray the wall. I didn’t ask for a fountain in my suite but look what I got! Anyways, everything else was good especially the restaurant. 3/5 in my book

What an amazing and special place. Cannot wait to come back and visit. This is about 15 minutes just south of Carmel, above the highway and overlooking the water. It is not technically on the water, but it has fabulous views and the rooms are extremely spacious. We were treated like royalty. Additionally, we were able to borrow bikes for the day and bring them down to the 17 mile drive for a great day of biking and enjoying the scenery. Cannot recommend this place more highly.

Stayed here during our honeymoon in July and had a fantastic time! From the moment we stepped out of our vehicle, we were greeted by welcoming staff and everything was a smooth process. We had an amazing view from our Ocean View King Room. It is quite something and the binoculars that they provide were definitely nice to haves. Food at the Pacific Edge Restaurant was great, though expensive. Other than that, the hotel is near the town of Carmel by the Sea which is an amazing little seaside town, and is near enough to Monterey. The hotel also had a deal with the Monterey aquarium which we took advantage of. The pool and jacuzzi on the grounds were wonderful.The one snafu during the trip was that we found a staple in the bread pudding we ordered for dessert one evening. We had already almost finished the dessert when I discovered it. Management came fairly quickly and apologized but there was no offer for any compensation of any sort which is a bit disappointing considering I almost bit into a staple.Other than that we had a wonderful stay and hope to be back at some point.

Wow! This was my first trip Carmel and staying at the Hyatt added to my journey down the PCH. The views from my room were amazing! Actually breath taking. The room was nice, however, they could use some updating. I had a fireplace and really enjoyed having a fire and relaxing.The restaurant for dinner was very good and breakfast on the patio overlooking the coast was brilliant.

We were married here 20yrs ago and came back for our anniversary to stay and remience. The rooms have remained the same, still with awe inspiring views, no change in the decor. What has drastically changed is the restaurant (Pacific Edge)and the food. So disappointed with our dinner, definitely not as creative, tasty as it was, it is not worth the price point. There are too many other choices for dinning in Carmel and surrounding area that are better. The staff and service all weekend has been friendly, no complaints there.

First, I must say that the location and view of the coast from this hotel is 10 stars. This is the most beautiful area of California I have ever visited. Second, the hotel is ok. We booked a small bungalow room, when we arrived it was dark. The layout of the property isn’t really conducive for lugging around luggage. The bellhop was more than happy to help but literally had to carry or luggage up several stairs and hilly walkways- a rolling cart just wouldn’t work. Our room seemed a tad dated, and there were lots of little spiders and ants in our bathroom. We were too tired from the days travel to request a diff room. Not many amenities as far as dining, refreshments, or vending available after 8p. We planned on venturing to a breakfast spot early the next morning, as we we t to bed starved. However the following morning we were able to peak the view from the resturant onsite, and it was phenomenal so we opted from breakfast with a view. We are so glad we did too, our breakfast was delicious, a little pricey, but the portions were huge! Upon checking out we Ms ruined the bathroom pests and our breakfast was comp’d, so that was nice. We’d def stay again- this is just such a beautiful, quaint area of the coast!

The ocean view was great but our room seemed old. It had a mini fridge sitting on the floor partially in front of the sliding glass door and just felt cramped in general. For the price we paid, I expected a lot more. We have traveled to many places and stayed in very nice and so-so nice places. Hyatt Carmel Highlands is just ok but the value for the money was very disappointing. Wont be going by back.

I personally think this place is great for more intimate weddings. It can obviously fit 100 but depends on the area reception you get. This is a really nice hotel. There are great views of the ocean from almost anywhere on the grounds. The main lodge is so quaint with a formal and informal dinning area as well as two large fireplaces to sit by in a common area. There are nice paved pathways to walk around the grounds, and a few firepits to sit by.

The hotel is expensive but has a fantastic View. It seems like its quite a bit dated much of the furniture is worn we stayed in the residence inn side where several things were very well worn for instance the stove was very small Warren and none of the knobs had any numbers there were no controls no way to tell what the temperature was set for the oven. we have two parties in separate rooms II parties reservation was messed up and they will put into a very tiny room which forced us to have to leave a day early and change our plans the hotel while apologetic was of no help.

I enjoyed the facility. There are wood piles scattered around the grounds for use in the fireplace each hotel room is equipped with, there are outdoor spas with space for 2. Rooms have a king sized bed, a small kitchenette, couch with pull out bed, a bathroom with shower, toilet and a large square bathtub. Fog was thick and constant for our stay, the view was limited and the temperature was a constant 60F in the day.

The service was great, especially the valet parking staff. The restaurant was a bit overpriced, but the food was good, not exceptional however. As a spa consultant I thought an in-room spa menu / service wouldve been a nice touch.

We went there for a brunch for Christmas eve... the place was really nice and the view was wonderful... the ambience for Christmas was really nice there were two beautiful fireplaces with a big Xmas tree in the middle with cosy sofas which you could sit and relax and enjoy the ocean view... about the brunch I should say that it was also good and delicious but it was not as well as the ambience. The menu consisted of sea food and also meat and vegetables.The 5 star goes more for the beautiful place and the view.

This is one of my favorite hotels. The views from the rooms are excellent, rooms are also very nice, with a fireplace in most of the rooms.If you for some reason cant spend the night, the restaurants here (California Market & Pacific Edge) is also very good, and definitely worth a stop.
