Such a great hotel in a great location. Our room was beautiful and came with complimentary champagne. There were rooftop events and pool parties all weekend, which was a plus because we got in for free just for being at the hotel. Everyone at the hotel is so sweet and helpful, but be prepared to pay $49/day for valet at the hotel. Will definitely come back!

The location is amazing. I booked a four-star hotel and this unfortunately may have been a four-star hotel back in 1965 but at this point is very rundown and is in bad shape. It is in much need of a thorough remodel if not gut job.The rooms are incredibly dated and it has major signs of deferred maintenance. I booked a four-star hotel on hotwire and was thoroughly shocked when I came to this hotel. We checked out within 20 minutes. The staff was extremely accommodating and very understanding of our decision and this review is merely about the facility, the staff was very polite and great.Please be more transparent of the condition as this should be start as a two-star or a motel. It does not warrant prices over $130 a night.

What a special group of people that run this hotel. The building is old and has natural deficiencies with faucets, windows, ect due to its age, but the location, views, beds, commodities and service from the staff is truly unmatched. They sent us champagne and fresh fruit, which was delicious and they were so attentive each time we came and went. The vallet parking crew was so sweet, timely and efficient. Always talking to the kids and asking them about their adventures. I would definitely consider staying here again. Wonderful experience all around!

A hotel 6 would have been better than this. We paid $500/night for the worst hotel experience of our lives. The furniture was old and outdated, the floors were dusty and dirty and the windows were dirty and couldnt be opened. The bed was pushed towards the window with little room to sit and enjoy the view while there was a huge open area to the other side. The ironing board didnt work (legs were broken) and the chaise had white spots on it and looked as if it hadnt ever been cleaned. The plumbing was clogged and there were very few amenities.They had a huge private pool party the day we checked in (which they didnt warn us about) and we couldn’t use the pool. The party was obnoxiously loud and disturbing and had I known about it, I would have gone elsewhere. They didn’t clean our room during our entire stay and on the day of checkout we were an hour late checking out and they sent security to threaten us. Then they called our room every five minutes to harass us, even though we assured them we were doing our best to get packed up.Customer service is a joke here. This hotel is a stand alone hotel and run by a general manager who doesnt know the first thing about customer service. The young guy behind the front desk is extremely RUDE and should be working as a bouncer at a nightclub, not a hotel. The staff are untrained and unqualified to be in the service industry (except the Valet, who was extremely friendly and courteous). They do not know how to run a hotel and just trying to keep their dilapidated hotel afloat.Be warned, dont waste your money staying here! We’ve never been so disappointed. This place is an EPIC FAILURE.

I travelled with my 2 teenage daughters and was so disappointed when we checked into the hotel for which we were planning to spend the next 5 days. We checked in and checked out within less than 30 minutes. Didnt feel safe, very run down, elevators werent working etc. Looked like it was part of a set from a horror movie. I will say the staff was cooperative with my decision to leave the property immediately. This is not a 4 star hotel. This is more like a motel. The pictures look great, but that is not what the property looks like at all.

Highly recommended. 5 star service, and friendly staff. We had a blast on the roof top lounge, but be prepared to pay more than your average lounge. But it was worth the extra cost.

WARNING. HORRIBLE. NEVER STAY HERE. STAY AWAY from the front desk manager, she has no customer service skills whatsoever, ZERO people skills. You will walk into your room expecting a five star resort but it is anything but, the rooms are rusted and dirty, nothing like the pictures. Forget about maids service, non existant. I got the impression this place was severely understaffed and poorly managed. Shame, I used to love this hotel. For what I paid for I will never stay at this hotel again.

Last summer I went to L.A and after I left Santa Barbara here’s where I went. It’s perfect to stay. I got room 500 and that’s one of the luxury rooms so I paid extra to get it done. Wi-Fi was actually ok because in the hotels I’ve been to it’s not good apart from this. I had a bath in the bath and I managed to turn round the tv so I could watch it. I went to Burger Lounge, 5 minutes away and it was an amazing stay.It was a very good experience and I’m going to try my best to try American language so the sea view I had was good. The pull-out couch *sofa was very comfortable and I always have loads of energy so that was relaxing. I recommend here. 5 stars.

Location is great. The rooms are nice and clean but worn. (e.g. scrapes and scratches on furniture). Rooftop lounge was trendy and cool. Restaurant was not worth the price and breakfast not available til 8AM!?? Customer Service was spotty. $25 Amenities fee per night added to price, plus $300 deposit refunded at the end of stay even though credit card used.

Terrible place to stay they play music so loud at the windows in bed shake from 10 AM to 12 am. The staff is so rude and doesn’t care that the guest cannot get any sleep or peace of mind. Unless you were 25 years old or younger I would not suggest staying here. Don’t waste your money out of frat house hotel. The pool is also disgusting with hundreds of people going in it that are drunk and it is not maintain properly.

+ Friendly Staff, quick check in process and location, this is where its stops.+ Housekeeping staff is on point, they cleaned the room very well even when we had sand most of those days.- We had 2 rooms booked but had a cancellation due to covid so we asked them to give us a bigger room vs 2 rooms and they couldnt do it and the 2nd room was non refundable, if we wanted the second room we had to pay the $25 resort fee on $400/night room. Speaking of resort fee, it includes pool, that was closed for 2 days for chemical cleaning and the gym in the basement smelled with most of its equipment broken.- Showers are massive but the knobs to turn on and off the showers are very difficult especially if you have a young adult and be careful if you flush the toilet while sitting down, you know the courtesy flush, it will spray you.- We wanted to take the stairs and the staircase at the ends have a consistent smell of rotten eggs, we just had to close our noses to go up and down, it really challenges your cardiovascular status.I have a feeling the management has restricted the staff from doing a lot of things on their own which could be difficult on them. Either way we are not salty about it just letting other know what they are getting into.

This hotel is priced at a luxury-tier and this may have been the case decades ago. Today, this hotel is reminiscent of those found in horror movies where everything looks like its suspended in a time of past, and now, faded, glory. The lobby has brass that has lost its lustre and carpet that may have once looked rich and plush. The rooms have gold and silver wallpaper which probably looked really chic once upon a time. The bathrooms have marble sinks and tubs with yellowed stains and hardware that wouldve once looked shiny and expensive, but are now all rusted out. The bathroom light even flickers when turned on and I keep expecting a glamorous ghost to appear behind me through the mirror.

I would like to leave a review on behalf of my boss. He went to Womack and only sharing and talking about good things that had happened there. He said that the guy from the front desk has a good personality. He was so friendly, genuine and had just positive attitude. He wished that the world needs more people like him. Appreciate him! The room itself wasn’t even that bad, but we got 2 sleeping places instead of the 4 we ordered. In addition to this, there was a pool party from 4 - 9 PM, without a warning and the party had a dj who played extremely loud music. No one was allowed in the pool and even after complaining about the music nothing changed.

Great reception & welcome by valet parking and reception. Very helpful staff. Rooms were a bit smaller than expected and there are no refrigerators, microwaves or coffee makers - just instant coffee. But the oool & jacuzzi area are real nice wirh ole Ty of seating and lounge chairs. I was looking forward to the Wednesday night beer, wine & cheese reception since we stayed on Wednesday, however they had discontinued it. I wish they had removed this from the internet ad. Overall, a nice hotel.

The location of this hotel is great. All the nice restaurants and shopping is a short stroll away. The hotel is kind of out dated, but you can get past that. The pool and hot tub area is beautiful. The down sides were that the hot water in the shower is non existent or at least in our room on the 2nd floor. In addition that pressure on the sink water is the strongest I have ever seen or felt. This may also be a 2nd floor issue.The staff was friendly, valet was on point and the service was great.

I’m kinda shocked this hotel has such bad ratings. We experienced nothing but good things.First off, the customer service is unreal. I forgot to get the front desk lady’s name, but she was awesome. We checked in fast. We already reserved a suite but the one without the kitchen; she upgraded us to the one WITH the kitchen and a suite with beautiful views. The kitchen upgrade was handy bc we had leftovers from both dinners. Jean Paul was our bellman, and he too was SUPER nice. I mean we couldn’t even open the elevator; he did it for us.Water here is free which his nice bc for as much drinking we did, we needed every bottle imaginable. Every time we came back from shopping or eating, the front desk would ask if we needed more water. Nespresso offered in the rooms too.The gym is pretty sizeable. Machines are close together, but no one was in there so it didn’t matter. They have two treadmills, two ellipticals and a stationary bike. There’s also lots of free weights and a few machines. The equipment is all state of the art and worked well for my 2-hour session.We did not use the pool area but it’s really nice (see photos).The rooftop bar was cool. It has the BEST views of the sun setting so try to go up and snap a photo if you can. We had six drinks total and it was about $100. Service was kinda slow but sunset is when they get their best crowd and we understood.The rooms are very spacious and can use a little décor updates, but overall, it served its purpose. We had the one bedroom suite which has a jack and jill door to the bathroom. The room and the living room has a big TV. The living room has a foldout couch, but I didn’t need to fold it out since it was wide enough to sleep on solo.Only negative thing which isn’t the worst, is that it’s on the main strip, so like all the other hotels, my guess is if you’re facing the water, you’re going to get the same noise level. I didn’t lose any sleep, but there were times I woke up bc of the noise from ground level. Even on the 5th floor, we could hear it.Also, the hotel is within walking distance from most places we went to. It’s a quick $20 uber to Rodeo and a $25 uber to the airport. We didn’t not park a car, but I heard a lady being told parking was $10 a night, which is dirt cheap compared to bay area hotel parking.I would definitely stay here again.

This property is beautiful. It has beautiful interior design. The accommodations are warm and spacious. Guests are treated to an amazing gourmet breakfast experience, which is truly outstanding, unique & delicious each day. The staff members are incredibly kind and knowledgeable of the area. Not worth it. The scam of a $25 fee per night when you check in to use the amenities advertised is a bad joke. There is no sound insulation. Doors slam constantly. The vanity mirror was scratched up and the lights didnt work. We booked it to have a nice room near the beach, but we wished we had picked somewhere else.

Location is amazing. Rooms arent very sound proof, you can hear everything going on outside your room and on the streets. Staff is friendly. Rooms are worn, our sheets had weird stains on them, dresser and everything else has scratches.. even the floors are scraped up. Bathroom is pretty big though.

Fantastic hotel in a great location! Staff was wonderful & beyond helpful. Quiet even though it’s on the street. Get a beach view! Although some minor cosmetic touch-ups are needed on the “heavy use” items like drawers, floors etc, the 30s-esque vibe has been well kept. Very pretty courtyard with a pool away from the public. Hidden fees watch out! We arrived having agreed a price to pay at the hotel with no additional fees listed. After a long trip, when we got there, three additional fees were added to our bill. I really just dont know what to say about this place. The aesthetic is nice, but its almost as if theyre trying to come off as an upscale hotel, but cutting corners to do so. My very first interaction was having to take a large rolling suitcase and large duffel bag by myself up the front steps with no one around to help. Not a big deal, but just a minor inconvenience. And I cant help but to feel like the guy at the front desk had to have clearly seen me struggling and did not come to help me get my bags up the steps, or at least open the front door. But honestly, just really a design flaw to the entrance of a building in which people undoubtedly are going to be bringing luggage inside of.The first room I went to the key did not work. The second room I was put in, the chain link security lock that is at the top of the door was just completely broken off. If there is one positive from my stay it would be my interaction with Anthony who came to my rescue each time and was so kind.So I finally get into the room I write this review from as we speak. The TV does not work. I try to pick a channel and it just keeps saying it needs to restart. And now the lights keep flickering on and off in the room.I really wanted to like this place, and Im not sure if perhaps I just caught this hotel on an off day, but I feel like I splurged to stay somewhere a little nicer for my first night in Cali and at this point feel like I might have had a better experience at just a standard chain hotel. This is not somewhere I will stay again and not somewhere I will be recommending to anyone else.

We booked a 2 room suite for our daughter’s birthday for she and her friends. The staff was very rude during the entire stay. The bathrooms had water damage on the walls and doors and smelled like mold. When I returned from a walk in the morning, at 8:00am, I was asked by a staff member if I was checking out. Then later in the hallway I was asked if I was checking out. Three other times I was asked if I was checking out before the 1200 checkout time. It was clear that the just want us out of the room and we’re rushing us out the door. For 1600 per night I would expect at least average customer service. This was literally the worst experience I have had at a hotel since a Motel 6, twenty years ago. Do not stay here!!!!!!

My husband had booked the Veranda suite for us. It was on the top floor and was beautiful. It had a balcony with the ocean view which I fell in love with and it came with a kitchen as well. This room was perfect for my husband and I. The hotel staff was great as well, so nice and helpful. The hotel is walking distance to many places like the beach, the pier, and the promenade. I got a lot of shopping done and when we came back my husband was super tired. We decided to have dinner at the restaurant in the lobby. The food was delicious and I am obsessed with their tower of fries. Overall expiernece was a 10/10. I have been looking for the perfect hotel in Santa Monica and I think I have found it!

When I checked out, the hotel charged 30 dollars per day on ammenities fee (!!), although they informed in the check in that it was already included in the fee we had already paid for (I was clear with staff that if it had not been charged, I would ask to remove it from my room, as I use my own self care products). Although I sent two messages for the manager after that, I never got a response, so I do not recommend this hotel at all, to anyone!!!!!

Heard a lot about the rooftop bar and decided to give it a try. The view was crazy, you can see the ocean and all of beautiful Santa Monica. If you go especially during sunset time its insane. The drink were great, the bartender was very funny and nice. Overall service was great as well. Will be coming back here

Great location! The service here was top notch. Check in was a breeze, and our luggage was already at our room when we arrived. The hotel is a bit older but customer service hasnt changed. Everyone is so attentive and kind. The promenade and the beach are not even 5 mins away.The views off the rooftop bar are amazing. You can see the beautiful ocean and Santa Monica while enjoying a nice drink. Overall I love this place and can’t wait to be back

This is a beautiful looking hotel and there is a lot of care taken in the detail of the art deco furnishings. The flowers in the foyer are magnificent! These flowers really make the difference.The room was well decorated but a bit cluttered. There was too much furniture for the space, as a result, there was limited space for luggage. The bathroom looked beautiful but thats where it stopped. The bathroom was not very practical. There was a massive tub with a shower in it. I am able-bodied and found it very hard to get in and out. They have a foot stool to help, but it was still awkward. It was also difficult to contain the shower water in the tub. Water went all over the vanity and the floor.They have gone to the effort to place double glazed windows on the beach side to cut down the noise. Unfortunately, the noise that came from the pool side was very disruptive. The noise went on until late. Due to the acoustics on the pool side, people talking, walking to or from their rooms was very noisy. Not to mention people playing games by the pool until late, this was loud!The one thing that disappointed me was that the room was not serviced by housekeeping. With the money we paid for our stay, I was surprised that I returned to an unmade room. We were in our room for 3 or so hours in the afternoon, but they had ample time for servicing.The pool was tiny and only enough room for a few kids to play in there. We had to sit it out because it was so small.I will go somewhere else next time.

My family and I decided we wanted to go on a mini vacation and we wanted to be by the beach. I am so glad I found the Hotel Shangri La in Santa Monica. Let me tell you, from the minute you arrive you are treated like royalty. The staff is so nice and helpful, the customer service was amazing from the concierge, front desk, employees, waiters everyone! The room was very cute and had a view of the beautiful ocean, it was super clean and the beds were so comfy. We loved the pool area and it had a bar as well. We were debating on either eating out or at the restaurant in the lobby and we chose the restaurant in the hotel. The food was a DELICIOUS, we are definitely going to be back for dinner here again. They also had a rooftop bar with an insane view, just overall everything was more than expected. We loved our stay here and can’t wait to be back

Got invited to a birthday party that was being hosted here. I had never been to the Shangri-La in Santa Monica before but I was shocked. They did the most beautiful job setting up. The room was absolutely beautiful, nothing I had ever seen before. Everyone at the birthday was in awe because of how amazing everything was. The food was delicious and so unique, there shrimp scampi is to die for. I will be coming back here again because they also have a rooftop bar with a beautiful view. The service was over the top as well, every second someone came and helped with anything we needed. It got pretty late at night and we were all pretty drunk so we just decided to stay the night. The concierge helped us easily book a room. The room was very nice and clean, the bed was super comfortable.overall, I had a great experience !

We enjoyed our stay in the corner suite, such nice views of Santa Monica! The rooms were comfortable, especially the bed. The staff was very amicable and put customers first. The bathtub/shower combo was a bit difficult to get into which is saying something since we are both quite tall. I think it might be hard for someone short. The restaurant was wonderful, I still stop in for breakfast on the weekends. Paid parking off of Ocean which is convenient since street parking is scarce in that area.

Excellent location. The hotel is decorated very nicely. The beds are very comfortable. For some reason they have asked me to remove my hat like 7 times, I told them I am a guest there and they immediately tell me I can keep it on. The noise is pretty much continual 24/7. The rooms are not soundproof and you can easily hear your neighbors. Not all of the windows have coverings so it is very bright in your room through the night. We have had an equally pleasing and upsetting experience with this hotel which is why it gets 3 out of 5 stars. The staff is very friendly and accommodating except for the Hat Thing.

I’ll start with the positive. The food was really good in the restaurant. You can’t beat the location. If that is good enough for you to fork over $500 a night, then you will be fine. However, the rest of the staff was rude or unhelpful and the rooms were terrible. See attached pics to see what I mean. We had dirty pillow cases, and when we asked for replacement, we were met with angry staff. Room service menu was “old” and many items were unavailable. If this hotel was $150 a night it would have been okay. But $500 a night should come with much better accommodations. I would avoid this hotel as there are many better options in Santa Monica.

We are well-travelled senior citizens from England and have stayed in Shangri-la hotels across the world. We have never been treated this shabbily by any hotel, anywhere. Excellent hotel. Location is close to beach and walkable to local attractions. We got upgraded to 2 bedrooms suite with terrace. The views were breathtaking from the balcony. Waking up to that view was enough to forget my worries. We had a kitchen which we used to prepare meal for my kid who wouldn’t eat outside. Hospitality was top notch.The area has a parking problem and only kid friendly option was valet parking in hotel which was pricey but comfortable option.

It seemed like an upscale hotel until we arrived. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures they post. Called front desk for items that were never delivered. After we ordered room service they left the dirty dishes outside for two days. I called about items I accidentally left in the room and never received a call back. Not impressed to say the least. Let me just start off by giving this hotel a negative 100 but that is unavailable option on this review status. STAY AWAY FROM HERE, STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! 😡If you have a couple extra $1,000 to spend here after you check out being posted on your credit card bill. Good luck trying to get in touch with the managers they do not answer their phones. If you mind getting injured and badly bruised and they do nothing about it after the fact. The pictures online do no justice because when you arrive the rooms do not look like them. Also, when you arrive they have a lot of hidden fees valet parking, amenities,etc if you dont mind paying those extra. They have no microwave and the tv had like two channels that were barely working. My boyfriend and I visited here for the first time in Santa Monica we were really excited until this bad experience we had with this hotel. We noticed a couple of days into our visit that other hotels along the shore were popping and very crowded. We wondered why everyone was staying at those other hotels. Now we know. This hotel is dead they barely have any guests here. Overall, visiting Santa Monica was a lovely time just stay at a different hotel! AGAIN STAY HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU HAVE EXTRA MONEY TO SPEND OUT OF YOUR POCKET!!!!! Attached are a few pictures of my bruised leg from a loose old functionality hinge broken bench in the shower that bruised me while showering. There is no communication and they dont follow through with calling you back with answers.😡😤

You can walk to the beach and it’s 3 minutes walk to the 3rd street promenade and a zillion stores and restaurants. Try to get a high floor for the best view (but even the second floor is great). The staff is phenomenal. So friendly and helpful and welcoming. Rebecca at the front desk should be given an award for best in hospitality. And Jean-Paul at the door is someone everyone should have the pleasure to meet. Wonderful stay and I hope to make it back soon. Goodbye sunshine....

Stay 3 night at this hotel, and wow what an experience. The entire process from valet to checkout was smooth and enjoyable. We had a lower floor ocean view room and it was great, big enough but still good value for money. I have stayed at many hotels in Santa Monica and for me this was the best value for money. The rooftop is great, go at sunset and enjoy the view of the ocean, smoking is okay at the bar also.

The way up is through a rather intimate elevator (I believe theres two), which does get bottlenecked at certain times. Otherwise, pretty great view if you can manage to find a seat!

I asked an employee if someone can come by to take an order for food, I was told the the menus is on the table. Long story short, if you are there to just chill grab a drink it is a cool place, just that management should work on the staff. Worst of all, the hotel’s water heater “broke down” when we were staying there and we had to take cold showers for two days while it was 40 degrees outside. I dined at the Shangri-La sidewalk dining on a Friday evening. The food was creative and delicious. The servers were fun and professional. The locale was ideal. My GF said the evening was delightful. We shared a Caesar salad and the NY steak. It was clever using the shredded eggs rather than putting the raw egg in the dressing, and there were anchovies in the salad! The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, and the heirloom veggies were flavorful. . And the coconut cheesecake was perfect, just enough coconut to balance out with the cheesecake flavor. We made a reservation based on their photo of the rooms available at this hotel but when we arrived we quickly realized the rooms were not as depicted in the photo. Wall paper was missing in places, the area rug old, and musty smell and half bottom walls were cement painted white. Not luxurious at all. We asked for a refund within 10 minutes of checking in. The front desk manager although pleasant, said he couldnt help us. We left to find another hotel, which we found a beautiful room at a lower price at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. The next day the manager gave us a refund for 3 days but refused to refund the night we checked, despite that fact we were in the room all of 10 minutes. It cost over $300 dollars for 10 minutes. Extremely friendly and helpful staff just waiting to assist your needs. A great example is that I was having drinks with friends in the lobby, not looking for help, and a team member asked if we would like a photo together( he took several and was so kind). The accommodations are new and amazingly appointed. Extremely clean in every aspect. A killer rooftop bar with sick views and list goes on and on. Late night its crowded so best to go with just one other person on a date or something. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have ever had. Since we were prepaid and from out of the area, we had no choice but to make the best out of the situation. I think it is important to know that I travel a lot both domestic & internationally.I tried to get a resolution from management for 3 weeks and it all went unanswered by the front desk manager both in person and via email with [email protected] and the general manager [email protected] before writing this review with the hopes they would have an explanation for the dirty, unsanitary & incomplete hotel room conditions. They did not have the professionalism to acknowledge our communications nonetheless deal with the problems.Since it was our 20th Wedding Anniversary, I did my best to resolve as many problems as I could on my own without ruining our second honeymoon. Supposedly, we were in their best suite in the hotel($1,500.+). What we found when we checked in around 5:00pm was dirty. We had to go to a market and purchase cleaning products. We cleaned the floors, cabinets, tub, sinks and all surfaces in the room since there was not a staff member available to clean. It was supposed to be extra clean due to the Covid-19 virus according to their website but it was not! It was clear the room had not been cleaned very well if at all. Several of the pots and dishes had been put away dirty and I had to clean them before they could be used. I should not have had to do any of cleaning. In addition to the unclean conditions there were other problems.1. The toilet was leaking and had a constant drip that could be heard in the other rooms all day and night2. There were not any cleaning products in the room for the dishes or dishwasher detergent, pot holders, kitchen towels or a sponge to use in the kitchen when we arrived. Housekeeping did bring us a sponge and liquid soap after we asked.3. Many of the lightbulbs were burned out. All of the kitchen lights under the cabinet and microwave were burned out. We had to wait until the next day for the maintenance guy as he had left prior to us checking in the room. He also did not speak English enough to understand what we were trying to communicate and a housekeeper had to translate for us. While he was attempting to change the bulbs under the cabinet he broke the tube all over the counter and sink. Though he did rinse the sink out he did not clean off the counter and left with the glass shards on the countertop and the items that were out on the counter. Once again I cleaned the glass so our trip would not be further interrupted.4. The coffee table had glass chips all over it. We kept it covered with bath towels the entire time so we would not get cut. It appears people try to move it by lifting the table by the glass and it is shattering all around the round things on the top.5. The windows did not have any window screens to keep bugs out.6. Even though the website said there would be 24 hour room service there was not. We expected limited accommodations but were extremely disappointed to find none at all. The only person who answered the phone at the front desk barely tried to help and there was very little he could do to try and resolve things.7. The guest elevator was not working and we had to take the service elevator which was dark and scary.8. The nightly parking fee was outrageous at $50.00 a day! All other public parking was closed or not available overnight and we were forced to pay such a high gouged price which I feel is unethical and an unfair business practice.9. There was not a hair dryer in the room.10. The TV kept shutting off regularly.We did not see a single person cleaning surfaces, wiping common areas or any efforts to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. In fact during the 5 days we were there we only saw 4 different employees. Also, there was construction occurring in several areas of the hotel.I would never stay in this hotel again!

So its rated as a 4 star hotel and I acknowledge the prime location but ...The furniture in my room was fairly beaten up. Some small issues like bathroom lighting fixtures experiencing scale buildup and streaks across a lot of the reflective surfaces. They only have two very small, very dark elevators (one is like a haunted house elevator). In the age of DoorDash and GrubHub youd imagine hotels would price their room service accordingly, Shangri-la has not.Now thats been said... The staff is awesome and very helpful. The location is PERFECT. Youre only a few blocks from the 3rd Street Promenade, and the Santa Monica Pier is just a few blocks the other way. No need to rent a car or Lyft to get to the beach, and plenty of great food in walking distance. Plus, its only about 20 minutes from LAX.

Lots of alcohol might increase a tip but is not the hallmark of a good tasting drink.The so called dress code for the roof top bar can be avoided if you are a pretty, young female or with a hundred dollar bill in your hand. The F&B Manager is to subservient in his demeanour for my taste that one senses something is not right here.The young bartender in the dinning room downstairs is not qualified to be there.The housekeeping staff does an excellent job. (This is not your typical bad experience rant; it’s a genuine explanation of how terrible the people at this hotel can be)Situation: A friend booked a room at the Hotel Shangri-la and made arrangement with their concierge and management to have a goodbye party for 20-30 people in the pool area and on the rooftop bar after. She paid up front for the room, party arrangements, and open bar at the pool area.Issues: Initially, the outdoor bar staff was friendly. Then without warning or provocation, the hotel abruptly shut down the pool area an hour before the agreed time. The staff flashed flashlights in our faces and demanded we finish our drinks and exit area. Even when some people said they had clothes left over by the pool, staff continued to try and force them out.(I know what you may be thinking, id think the same thing, that our group did something to bring this on, but i assure you, there was no rowdiness, no loud party noises, no obscene activity, just normal happy people saying goodbye to a close friend)We were forced into the hotel lobby and bar, many of us still in our bathing suits. This is when the Hotels behavior goes from inconvenient to outright cruel. Trying to be reasonable, given the ouster from the pool early, the woman who booked the room tried to take those who were still in bathing suits up to her room to change for the rooftop bar. The Hotel actually used security to prevent the hotel guest from going to her own room to change. They also said the rooftop could not accommodate the group and we could not go their either. Management and the concierge were “unavailable” to speak with as well to work out anything even remotely resembling a compromise. We just couldn’t do any of the things we paid to do with no reason given.Ousted from the pool early, forbid from going to the room, and unable to use the rooftop bar, we sat stranded in the lobby and lower bar area. After several of us had ordered and paid for drinks from the lower bar, as our friend attempted to resolve the issue, the hotel decided we now could not be in the lobby or lower bar as well. We were paying customers having a drink calmly waiting at this point and security came over, stood next to use, and demanded we either chug our drinks or leave them there because we weren’t hotel guests and had weren’t allowed in that area… even though the lower bar is not for hotel guests only.(Again, please know, we were not being loud or obnoxious or creating a scene at any point up until this moment. I say “until this moment” because I feel someone can only be abused so much before a scene becomes inevitable. So if the hotel decides to respond to this review and says it was because of our behavior, please know that up until this point, we were nothing but respectful and reasonable, and any “scene” created was after a series of injuries that no one should have to tolerate)So kicked out of the pool early, unable to go to the hotel room, unable to go to the rooftop bar, unable to be in the lobby, and unable to stay in the lower bar, the hotel essentially kicked us out onto the street in our bathing suits for reasons not a single person at the hotel could explain, at No point did the hotel accuse us of being too loud, or rude, or anything that would justify such horrible treatment.I cannot recommend anyone go to this hotel as a guest, a friend of a guest, or even to use the bathroom, because it is apparent they can choose at any moment, with no explanation, to treat you in an unprofessional and cruel manner. Rooms are tiny, rugs were stained, windows were dirty and rusty with bugs in the window sills, iPod player was broken, the mounted TV on the wall shook the whole time from AC air blowing onto it, no iron, and you can hear EVERYTHING outside your door and windows. Its like staying at a over-priced motel.To top it off, there was construction (drilling and hammering) going on in the two rooms next to ours. I understand this isnt something everyone will experience, but it was the lack of help from management we received during this. I politely called the front desk asking how long they were doing construction for, and the lady put me on hold while she went to ask. She never came back on the phone, and never called me back. So, I went downstairs to ask the manager (Stephan), and he said it wont happen again for the rest of our trip and would like to comp us two drinks at their rooftop lounge (um, thanks?), then gave us his card saying to call him if it happens again. The next day, drilling and hammering again for 3 1/2 hours! We tried calling Stephan to tell him a VM but he never called us back. I was amazed that a manager of a hotel would treat his paying guests that way.. Especially for almost $400 a night.We only had our room serviced twice in the five days we were there, but only during the first two days of our trip. Im assuming this was because the housekeepers were avoiding our end of the hotel due to the construction....?My husband and I do a lot of traveling, but Ive never felt so frustrated at a hotel before- mostly because our concerns were not addressed nor cared for by the management. We were promised on two different occasions that their GM (Adman) would call us, but he never did.Dont stay here, trust me. There are much better hotels in Santa Monica with a better experience. This place ruined our whole trip.

We were early arriving in Los Angeles and the staff allowed us an extremely early check-in. What a way to start a stay! The front desk staff were helpful with all questions and provided detailed instructions how to use the elevator. the concierge desk provided advice on how to get to certain destinations, as well as a map with marked directions. The room was immaculate! A welcome basket was provided. We needed an extra blanket and it was sent immediately. The worst hotel experience we have ever had....• My son books a room at the hotel in advance due to the website description about the hotel accommodations which described lavish style in elegant rooms..• My son arrives at the hotel and immediately goes to his room. I do eventually speak with the Front Desk Manager and explain the poor condition of the rooms and that I want my son refunded for the night he was charged. I explain I have every right to dispute the charge, write reviews, and contact the owner to pursue the refund if the hotel staff does not comply. She says she will speak with the Hotel Manager. After they speak, the Hotel Manager tells her to tell me that if I write a review or contact the owner, he will charge my son for a second night. Outrageous comment at a minimum!Without question, the worst hotel experience we have ever had. Worn, dirty, misrepresented room, horrendous customer service. A very disappointing hotel to be sure, particularly considering the price. The shower seemingly only has 2 setting on the stiff handle that cotrols it (hot and hotter), the tap was extremely strong, often causing water to splash on me, the sofa-beds mattress is loud and has close to no padding on top of the springs, the room service failed to offer their turn down service, and the doorman failed, throughout the stay, to remember that I was staying there, with him asking almost every time I arrived back if I was checking in and if I required assistance with the luggage. There additionally is a slight lack in additional facilities within the complex. That being said however, the servicepeople are quite nice and the room service food offerings are good, despite being a bit overpriced. On the contrary, when I called in need of assistance with some goods I left behind, the staff cut me off twice and just left the phone for half an hour without much word. In reality, this hotel is a 3 star tricked up to appear and cost the same as a 5 star, with design often triumphing over practicality in many of the rooms functions and service being respectful but nothing at all special. This place desperately needs a makeover.

Ve stayed at many Shangri-La properties in the past and have always had a pleasant experience, so naturally, did not think we would have anything but that here.Upon checking into the room, we found a half ripped condom wrapper in the bathroom floor - that should have been our first red flag. Well, after traveling for 7 hours (with two small children), I went ahead and chaulked it as a careless mishap and wiped the bathroom down accordingly. From there, we departed to explore LA, a bit unhappy but wanted to get on with our mini vacation.When we arrived back to our room - about an hour in, we noticed our A/C did not seem to cool the room. Mind you it was over 100 degrees that day. A quick call to the customer service yielded a maintenance staff member, which was able to fix the A/C (temporarily). The A/C quit working around 10:30 pm and those of you with children, understand that once they are asleep, you dont want to wake them. So we did our best, opened up the windows and endured the high humidity and temperature throughout the night - absolutely miserable.The next day, I advised the staff that the A/C quit working and it was a miserable night. What I got back was - sorry. We will let our manager know. Its now been 4 days, 3 emails, 8 phone calls, and no resolution.Ive stayed at hotels from all walks - and this one tops the list of my worst hostel stay, in fact, the worst one that I remember, doesnt even come close to this nightmare.

Was relatively pleased with the hotel, however once retrieving my car I was verbally assaulted by the valet and accused of being a thief As I arrived the valet advised me that the cost was $15. No problem, I enjoy my night - spend a couple hundred at the bar as you do, fast forward a couple hours, I pay my valet fee at the front desk without incident.This is where it gets interesting, the valet tells me its not enough and I need to pay him an additional $40 in cash, I give him the receipt and explain Ive paid and will be taking the truck. Some unintelligent conversation ensues and we find ourself back in the lobby of the hotel. Between valet, security, receptionist, and the supervisor on duty I spend the next approximately 20 minutes having to explain how a business works and getting nothing but disrespect from entry level customer service employees. I offer them some complimentary business advice, which was even more generous on my part and obviously covered the outstanding mystery $40 ;-)To make a long story short, after bringing a group of people who collectively spent many hundreds of dollars between them I will ensure to not patronize this place again, any company that allows valet staff to belittle, discriminate, and defame the patrons they park is no place for me.

I was in the resort industry for 30 years, and Ive never seen customer service ignore the rules of hospitality like these guys. I wish I could say more for them, because I like the place a lot. Santa Monica usually has the best service in all of LA besides Beverly hills. The shangri-la staff seems impeccable, however, I brought a friend to have a drink and they made us check her bags at the front desk while reassuring her everything would be safe in their care. We found out later that they took something out of her bag. When she called to have them find it, they hung up on her. She kept calling back and getting more angry until they stopped answering the phone. In all my years of hospitality, and all my time in Santa Monica, Ive never seen worse treatment of a customer. I gave them a few stars because the place is very nice. But they need to send their staff to customer service training. They treated her terribly, and it was painful to watch.

Unfortunately me and my partner were in a pretty bad mood and maybe a little curt when we arrived. We had booked an Airbnb down the street and wasnt able to get into the building or contact the host. It was late and we needed a place to stay. Our nights plans already ruined. We tried a few hotels with no luck when we walked into this one. Jesus was there to help us and seemed to notice that we werent havent an awesome night. He was very patient and made sure we were able to get into a room. He made it as easy as possible for us and was very gracious. He really made our night less stressful and more enjoyable.We booked our stay on a 3rd party app and he set us up with our room. We had just finished a 10 hour motorcycle trip to get here and we were mighty tired and achey. When we got to our room we were so happy to see a GIANT bathtub and one of the most comfortable beds Ive slept in. Me and my partner were able to make this disaster of a night wonderful just relaxing in this beautiful room. The entire place was beautiful without feeling stuffy. We already plan to come back and stay for more than one night to really take it in.On top of everything there was a hiccup with the 3rd party that left it looking like the room hadnt been paid. Jesus wanted us to relax and enjoy ourselves and told us he would handle it while we relaxed and slept for the night. Come morning I checked the front desk to confirm and without even having to explain the gentleman at the front desk (I missed his name sadly) let me know everything was settled and we had nothing to worry about.I know this is a long review but Jesus and the rest of the staff there took an incredibly stressful night and made it an enjoyable and memorable experience. Hotel Shangri-La in Santa Monica is a dream hotel. The best customer service, beds you never want to leave, posh but not stuffy atmosphere, and great amenities. The hotel is near the Santa Monica Pier and other attractions and ocean-facing. There are so many options for entertainment, food, and shopping within comfortable walking distance. There is even inexpensive public parking nearby.First, let me start out by saying that my partner and I had booked an Airbnb apartment two blocks from this hotel. However, after a 10-hour motorcycle ride, we couldnt get into our booking and couldnt reach the host. Exhausted, sore, and road dirty, we walked to Hotel Shangri-La, all of our motorcycle bags, leathers, and helmets in hand.Jesus and the staff were the most gracious and curteous hosts imaginable. While it was an incredibly busy night (the Saturday before Halloween) with a lot of traffic to and from their rooftop bar, Jesus went out of his way to ensure we could book a room quickly.Once we were in our room, trying to unwind from the physical rigors of long-distance travel by motorcycle and wash away our grime, there was some issue with the third-party vendor through which we booked the room. Jesus didnt require us to deal with the issue right then, but let us know about it and that he would continue to work on it while we rested.When my partner checked in with the front desk the next morning (well after Jesus and the night crew went home), the front desk was on top of the information and assured us that Jesus had taken care of everything while we slept.In addition to the premium service and non-reaction to our raggedy biker punk appearance, the quality of our room was complemented by the relaxing oasis of the pool and sitting area in the middle of the hotel.The only negative comment I can make about the hotel was how long it took to get a hot shower going. Be prepared to turn the water on full hot and let it run for a full 20 minutes before you want to get in the shower if you want a moderately warm, comfortable shower. However, compared to the exemplary service and atmosphere, that minor detail is nothing.My partner and I have already determined that the next trip or any trip we have planned for Santa Monica will always include accommodations at Hotel Shangri-La.

Please keep in mind, that we are young black professionals and never once got upset. She talked so nasty to me that I had to speak to an incredible man Jesse (the security) and explain the situation while she stood there on the phone with the manager still making remarks about my friends and stated that she called the police and on top of it all charged our card multiple times. I will never ever stay here in my life. However, she did not ruin the day because our god is incredible, but I do think that she needs to be fired and we could of simply went somewhere else in the first place, which we did, shout out to the Ritz Carlton DTLA that made sure my birthday was everything that I could of asked for and more. Nice, Fail Shangri-LA. Yall need to learn how to access certain situations and learn how to create exceptional experiences and instead not try to ruin them.

We requested to speak with a GM, that from what the staff told us, was fully aware, we chased an explanation for 2/3 days, we were promised to speak with a senior person afterwards, but this never happened.The only people we spoke with, after all this, told us the fine to smoke in a non designated area was $500, when their staff told us to smoke there and that the room they gave us was their best room, so we should be content, this was the conclusion they took from that messy night. Firstly we didn’t ask for that room, we just wanted to sleep with the lights off, secondly the only thing we asked was to speak with a senior member of the hotel, that never happened, which I will contact now Shangri-La’s corporate office with a full explanation of what really happened, since the report of that night seemed to be very far from what happened and we tried several times to speak with the general manager.Hotel is outdated, one lift is so old that it’s scary to utilize it, cleanliness is ok, maintenance issues seem to be quite a few, guest recognition from security and them being friendly is none and obviously no one knows how to deal with a complaint and making their guests be heard.Room service was good once and the second time my burger had a massive black hair inside and dessert was super dry, at this point we have given up trying to speak with someone senior from the Hotel, they didn’t care.For me that I come from the industry, makes me so disappointed how things were dealt with and in which kind of ruined a bit the end of our holidays.Staff could have been more helpful on several occasions and we definitely tried to make them aware of what was wrong, again, no one really looking after this venue from my point of view.Really, really poor! Shangri-La.... Never again!Update.Shangri La didn’t want to be responsible for this and never replied to my emails afterwards... quite poor from a world wide recognized brand.

Hotel Shangri-La is one of the older hotels in Santa Monica. The building is worn around the edges but clean, and the staff is friendly. That being said, the drinks and food are bland and very expensive. Each drink averages to around 20$ per. If you are looking for a fun night and a good ambiance there are lots of other places to eat and drink around Santa Monica that dont break your wallet.

Stayed here over Labor Day weekend in 1981 when it was billed as a Garden Hotel. They had Formica countertops ..I wonder if thats still there..it was $55 a room back then. We plan to come back and see it again when travel opens back up.

Parking is exorbitantly expensive here. Park somewhere else. It was $20 minimum to use their lot. Also, I went for a special event and they had some type of an event across the hall which was extremely noisy and interruptive. Although there was water and also water with fruit in the room, the cookies and herbal tea and hot water showed up after the event was finishing so it was a moot point since most of us had left or were leaving. Not good organization.

I have been working with Adrienne Miley to put together a birthday surprise for my nephew, Marcus Gutierrez. When one after another obstacle to the plans were encountered, she came up with one creative plan after another to overcome the obstacles. They just give an answer that they reversed the payment (either them or their bank hasnt) but no detail even so I can chase it up with my bank. Becareful, do not go to these hotels and if you do, do not give them excess authorization, they simply do not give the excess amount back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **************
