I have no idea where to begin! This place has been a home away from home. KATEY is an excellent owner, operator, Mother Hen(she will laugh at this) and a great host! These are MORE than affordable and the services she provides are something my wife and I never have had! If you are looking for a place on the mountain or a getaway this is a place to go. Rooms are excellent! Facility is VERY VERY clean and the kitchens are a HUGE plus. I will always recommend this place to everyone my wife and I know. Thanks Katey you have been an Angel In human form!

We have stayed at Hillcrest before and glad to be back. This is a small boutique type place with only 12 units. We like this type most since the setting is more personal, homey, and charming. Our room is clean and cozy and have everything we need. I like the decor as well, not cookie cutter like chain hotels but uniquely decorated with the mountain theme. We used the outdoors professional gas grill almost every night and this saved us money as well as letting us eat healthy (like we normally do at home). The owners are super nice and always available for any concerns. The property is also very clean and quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

Katey was a wonderful host. Me and my wife went on a little weekend getaway for my birthday,went we arrived I was greeted with a happy birthday ! Upon check in Kathy gave me a rundown of all the fun local activities and delicious local restaurants. The room(#2)was clean cute and cozy enough room for us 2 and my bike. The transaction was the easiest with no junk fees. I really appreciate the great hospitality and will be back again. Thank you !

This place is amazing. Katey is such a sweetheart! Very dog friendly place, although I did not bring my dog. I stayed at their single bed room, and it was amazingly comfortable. Across the street is the Big Bear Brewery, I did not go in but you could hear music coming out from the brewery (when youre inside your room, you dont hear anything the music).The best way I can describe this place is that it is very personable. There is an actual person trying to create an environment, I loved it!

Fireplace was nice. The two bedroom suite has one bathroom that is located inside of one of the bedrooms. It was inconvenient for us to share. There were also live and dead cockroaches in the kitchen and bathroom. Would not return for another stay.

Katy was great. We had room #1 with a kitchen. It was cute and very clean. A bit noisy since it is closest to the road, but I slept well. Stayed there a few years ago in another cabin and it was quiet. Only a mile to The Village so the location is great. A big plus, they dont add on fees, the price is as advertised, which is rare to find.

Absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had with a stranger. A housekeeper, blonde died hair… almost grey, trying to hide the grey, grabbed our dog by the leash and picked him up off the ground. Our dog was doing absolutely nothing… didn’t even pee or pooh on property. We were simply walking back to our home 400ft through the property. She grabbed him by his leash, next to a doggie pooh bag station… so clearly dogs are allowed on property, and demanded we walk the other way. I’d never feel comfortable staying here, knowing the staff is low key evil towards dogs. Save yourself and your dogs. I’ve never felt so violated.

Visited in 2017 :I had an excellent experience at this cabin rental. The accommodations were spotless, beautiful, and very peaceful. The manager was incredibly friendly and provided helpful recommendations for restaurants and hiking. I felt comfortable leaving my car there while out on a hike. I rarely give top ratings for a hotel, but this one truly exceeded my expectations. I plan to return in the future.

We had a great time staying here for a few days around July 4th. It’s really cozy, loaded with anything you may need and conveniently located. The best part is that it is very dog friendly. Note that one of the booking websites states 1 dog maximum but this depends on the room size. I would recommend calling the listed number/owner if you have more than 1 dog to confirm which cabins/suites can accommodate more than one dog. Overall, we had a very relaxing time and enjoyed ourselves in Big Bear! Also a big plus is that it is right across the street from a brewery and the coaster/water slide is less than a 5 min walk away!

One of the best experiences Ive had at a hotel! Hillcrest Lodge has unique rooms (we stayed in the fish-themed room as opposed to a separate cabin) that are cozy and warm in the winter. Katey was very kind and made us feel very welcome at both reception and check-out.The rooms are clean, the outside noise is very minimal, and the beds were some of the comfiest Ive ever slept on. The location of the hotel is placed perfectly; close enough to downtown area in case you forgot to grab something at the Vons or would like a quick bite to eat, as well as far enough away that you wont be bombarded by the tourists and all the noise of downtown.Couldnt have asked for a better stay, most definitely will be returning!

Crazy lady, blond hair 50-60years old, grabbed our dog, while walking through the parking lot and held onto his leash, hanging him by the neck, held off of ground, accusing of trespassing. Easily could file a law suit. Would love to know the owner of this establishment’s reaction to the video footage just moments ago. Absolutely outrageous. If I could do a zero star, I would. Disgrace to humanity.

So enjoyed my stay here. Such a nice change from your standard Hotel. This place is very unique and cozy. The rooms are all themed differently. People looking after the place are so nice and very accommodating. I came for a weekend event. It would have been nice to be able to stay longer here and explore the area. If I ever come back, which is suspect I will, I will definitely stay here again.

First impression of the place was refreshing. Pines every and gave a homie warm feeling. Upon check-in, it was easy and front desk clerk was sweet and informative.Location is perfect! Not too far from The Village gas stations, restaurants, etc. It is about a 30 min walk to The Village and about a 5 min drive. Super convenient!Room entrance was clean and comfortable. It was 4 of us and we comfortably shared the space. Two of us slept on the pull-out bed and the other two on the bed in the bedroom. The little kitchen is super useful if you want to cook or make your own meals. They have dinnerware, silverware and cooking-wear. Dont expect to cut anything hard! Knifes are very dull and wont be much use to you on anything hard.Extras: we like to set up sheet on top of surfaces but we forgot ours do we used the ones in the room. One of the blankets was dirty and we werent comfortable using it. They also didnt have extra toilet paper or napkins, thankfully we had our own. Im sure if we had asked for extras it would of been okay but we had our own.Service: Our T.V wasnt working when we got there and we called the front desk. A nice gentleman came right away and fixed it! Super friendly and helpful.Overall, great experience! Comfortable, semi-clean and amazing customer service! We will return.

Very nice place to stay! Rooms are clean and cozy. We had everything we needed and felt at home right away. The staff are very friendly and informative on things to do in the area. Great location, very close to the village and other attractions. There is no A/C but there are fans in the rooms and we were comfortable at night with the windows open. The bed was a little hard and they could use some new pillows, but nothing terrible. Our only concern is that we had a first floor room and the guests staying above us were very loud all weekend. They were running and jumping, were assuming it was a family. But it was very loud and sounded like they were crashing through the ceiling at times. My recommendation would be to book a room on the second floor if possible. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return!

What a lovely, lovely place run by the loveliest people! We stayed in room 11 which had two bedrooms, a bathroom, small kitchen, and living room. Plenty of space for my friend and I to have a fun summer Big Bear getaway. Not to mention the fabulous DVD selections for cute movie nights in. Katie runs the place with grace and for the room and entities the price is such a steal. In the heart of big bear so some places are walking distance otherwise nothing is too far of a drive. Will definitely be coming back! OH and definitely book on the website because the prices are lower there than any other booking site.

This was one of the most majestic cabins I have stayed in. The cabin was cozy and comfortable. The decor in the room was fit for a cowboy with a well planned out decor. The cabin had all the amenities needed and more. We had every utensil we needed to grill up a steak and make a full breakfast. We had firewood in the cabin and nice fireplace to be nestled on the comfy couch. The staff was very friendly and made you immediately feel at home. The owners come out and greet you with a smile and are beyond accommodating. I wanted to keep this gem in my back pocket, however I wanted to share this wonderful place because of the 6 star service I received. I recommend this lodge to anyone who is looking for a mountain retreat and getaway. The location is close to the lake, ski resorts, and tubing park.

Excellent cabin! We stayed 1 night at this property and couldnt have been more satisfied. We arrived and Val upgraded us to a larger cabin which we appreciated. She showed us a beautiful walking trail nearby and gave us a list of restaurants nearby. Cabin #6 was clean, comfortable with a mini kitchen and fireplace. Firewood was provided free of charge. I received a call the next day from Ken saying a diamond stud earring was found in the room while it was being cleaned. My wife didnt know it was missing! He mailed it back to us. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Big Bear.

I came on a whim to get away from the desert heat with my husky. We needed to enjoy some outdoor time and found a fabulous place to stay! My cabin was so charming and clean and comfortable. Lots of fans to keep the air circulation fresh! The owners were so wonderful and welcoming. They helped me out with recommendations for hiking and dog friendly restaurants. I initially was going to stay only one night, but decided to stay for two! I really enjoyed walking to dinner at Azteca just down the road. I found my new favorite getaway from the desert! Mike and Katie are wonderful people, it’s just like staying at an old friends house. They are also tremendous patriots that go out of their way to serve veterans and first responders. Super hotrod and motorcycle friendly people. Most recently, they donated a two-night stay for the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Barstow Chapter 33-8’s raffle and silent auction. Each cabin is individually themed. Bars, restaurants and grocery stores all walking distances. Also has the best deck in town. We will only stay at Hillcrest Lodge when in Big Bear!

My husband and I absolutely LOVED staying here in late March of 2016. We stayed in cabin 4 for 2 nights and it was a wonderful experience. The room was recently remodeled and beautiful. We arrived a few hours before check-in and it was no problem (which we appreciated after a long drive)! We had mentioned on the phone when booking that it was our 10 year wedding anniversary and when we arrived at our cabin there was a little bag of goodies and a card congratulating us. So thoughtful!! Our German Shepard, Husky, Rottweiler mix loved all of the trails that were near by and all that there was to do. The fact that this place is pet-friendly made all the difference. We also loved that we could borrow movies from the front office to watch during the evenings. This place had amazing customer service and hospitality and we will definitely be back!

We stayed here this weekend and had a great time. The hosts were very friendly and helpful to first time Big Bear visitors (they even gave us coupons for daytime activities). The cottage we stayed in had a very home-like, true Big Bear feel and was also very convenient. Not only was the lodge conveniently located but the efforts of the hosts to make the stay easier were obvious as well. The fireplace had firewood and lighters all set up, they had dishes and pots ready to go, and even a sleep sound machine! To top everything off, we brought our Roku stick along for the trip and accidentally left it there. The morning after we left, the owners called us to get our address so they could ship it back to us personally. We are more than pleased with this place!*Side note - they give military discounts too!

If you plan to stay at Big Bear, this is your spot. The owners, Ken and Val, really put a lot of work into making this lodge just about perfect.They have suites and cabins, and each one was designed differently and simply had everything in the cabins and rooms you could ask for. The whole place has a warmth and quaint feeling to it.I noticed they had a large standing fan, a noise reduction machine, extra pillows and blankets, and so many kitchen utensils, among so many other things that would easily let you stay there for a week if you wanted to.It was clean, quiet, and is located near a trail and the Aspen Glen picnic area which has the Pineknot trailhead. They are just outside of town and about 2 miles from Snow Summit.I highly recommend staying here. The owners, the cabins and rooms, and the whole experience is 5 stars all the way. Clean rooms, fun outside activities. The room did not have air conditioning, it was 81 in the room at night. The hotel offered a few rooms with air, but they cost more. Lesson learned pay more next time in the summer for air! Leaving the window open was not a option. People walking by can see in and the lights from outside are too bright to keep the window open.The room was clean! The property was clean! The property had outside recreation and comfortable seating and bbq!

I read through the reviews that said things could be improved and they are not wrong. However, this is a privately-owned, small business with seasonal renters. I’m going to cut them some slack given the nature of the industry.I’ve stayed at several Big Bear properties, from the 5 star Club at Big Bear village to camping in the north side of the lake. For style and amenities The Club is hard to beat, but the rates are equally 5 star. Camping is economical, but it’s basically sleeping outside.The Hillcrest Lodge is a clean, well maintained, centrally located property with a cozy feel and sufficient amenities to make for a pretty comfortable weekend. It’s doubtful you will run into CEOs or royalty while staying here, but so what? Who needs the hassle of trying to park your Accord next to the limo?Check rates around Big Bear and you’ll find some pretty high rates for a room and a bed. Hillcrest offers small living areas with wood burning fireplaces, small kitchens with appliances, and separate bedrooms. This is all very convenient if you want to bring adult beverages, snacks, or you feel like making breakfast.I’ll definitely go back to Hillcrest Lodge.

Found this lodge on Trip Advisor for a trip to the snow. When we arrived in Big Bear, the power was out and the lodge called me to let me know they were able to issue a rain check for the room. We checked in anyway and they provided us with a flashlight for the room. The heater was still functioning and the power came back on after a few minutes of our arrival. The room was clean and tidy. The lodge staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even let us borrow a sled to use in a nearby park for the kids. Overall a great experience and I plan on staying here the next time we visit Big Bear.

New ownership. Smooth check-in. Firewood for sale on premises. Plenty of hot water, towels, blankets & pillows. High speed internet. Walls were a little thin, so if you have neighbors or are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Parking is in short supply throughout Big Bear, but we made do. Luckily, Hillcrest Lodge is in walking distance to all the things we needed: bottled water, snow clothes/shoes, places to eat, Magic Mountain. We greatly enjoyed our stay.

Hillcrest lodge is a nice place to stay with all of the character youd expect from Big Bear. Ken and Val were courteous and friendly hosts, and its obvious from the well maintained rooms and grounds that they take pride in the place. We stayed in a small private studio which was perfect for a quiet night but most rooms are larger suites. I loved the décor which was the perfect mix of cabin kitsch and authentic vintage. Will definitely stay with them on our next trip.

I recommemed this amazing cabin. Great location. Close by summit mountain. The village is about 3 / 5 mins drive you could enjoy some shopping and restaurant. The cabin was very clean and cozy. I do a lot of traveling and stay at a lot of places, but this has got to be one of the best lodges that I have ever stay at. Ken and Val who own the Lodge are very knowledgeable of all the surroundings and even told us about some great hiking trails and points of interest. We plan to make the Hillcrest Lodge are annual vacation spot.

We were pretty disappointed with our stay at Hillcrest Lodge and dont plan to come back. I feel bad leaving such a negative review, but it was really a frustrating experience. The disappointment started with the check-in process. We drove up early to beat holiday traffic and were informed we couldnt do early check-in because the owner and her husband do all the cleaning themselves and rooms wouldnt be ready until the regular check-in time at 4pm. We were there before 4pm and once it came around they werent ready. When they were ready to check guests in, who at this point started queueing up in no particular order, the owner proceeded to have lengthy conversations with guests. We were traveling with a young baby who hadnt ate or napped well all day, which isnt the owners fault, but there seemed to be no consideration for expedience and efficiency given they were running behind. Generally the owner was anxious and abrasive, most times towards her husband shouting at him to do things or if he didnt do things in a particular way. It was really unnerving to see someone treated like that so publicly. More generally, I probably wouldnt choose to stay in this area during peak season because the traffic going in and out of the village is so rough. Also a bummer is its conveniently located across the street from Big Bear Brewing but there are no crosswalks near by to safely cross the street.

Please take heed! It was a Nightmare.... No A/C when we specifically stated our need for Air Conditioning. We asked for a refund within 45 mins of checking into an 88 degree room, they declined. I repeat. It was a nightmare. Please do not believe this 5 star rating. My advice is to book another location. Youre welcome.

They dont change even a towel, it took them 3 hours to give us the room, check in was at 4pm and they gave us the room at 7pm. Terrible service, they do everything reluctantly. There was a change of administration and they do not know how to operate hotels. I recommend going to the Holliday Inn next door.

I loved it... its my second year in this nice place and I would go back there, its cozy, you feel at home, its very clean, but now with the pandemic, they take precautions and the administrators are very attentive. The place is centrally located and you walk to a good place. for fun
