Had an appointment booked today to tour apartments at 1:30 PM, which was made a week in advanced. When I got to Highland Gardens, there was a sign on the leasing office saying “out to lunch, back at 2 PM”… rough start. I called the office several times, as I traveled 40 minutes for this tour, and had others lined up afterwards, no response. Finally, at 2:00 PM the leasing office opens and I speak to the person working, letting them know we had an appointment at 1:30 that we booked. Her response, was “well I was at my lunch, do you still want the tour?”.Wild response, I would have almost preferred to be lied to than feel like my time was not valued. Needless to say, I did not want the tour and will not be moving forward with them in any capacity.

This is a construction site 🚧RE: The construction is to add units not improve anything.

My fiancé and daughter and I have decided to make Highland Gardens our new home. This team here is truly the best. Including maintenance! Francisco has been on top of everything that we’ve asked and has gotten things done within days. Leasing management has also been one of a kind to us. Move in process was very smooth and the welcoming we received was just heart warming. We’re very very happy with our decision here at Highland Gardens.

We moved here 5 or 6 months ago, and everything had been normal and good. But suddenly the administration took the arbitrary decision to build apartments below our apartment. Its horrible because the workers do their job from Monday to Friday, and those days we rest in the morning. We want to sleep a little bit more because yes, we are paying a lot of money to live here, but at 8 am, the workers start a noisy concert. Furthermore, they are blocking the door which allowed us to go out and get rid of the trash. 😡 I repeat we are very angry with this administration and its arbitrary decision, so be careful when you decide to live here because these people dont take into account your opinion.

I lived there between late 2021 - 2022. It’s an older place that should be kept up better for the amount of rent they charge. I would not recommend this place or any other Decron properties after our year-long stay.Pros:Walking distance to a lot of stores and Castro streetRight next to the parkCons:An animal lived in the ceiling above the bedroom I was using as an office. I think it was either a rat or a squirrel. It would scratch and chew for hours; which was surprisingly loud and disruptive. When I put in work requests I would get a notice that a maintenance person was coming and then they would just not show up. Eventually, the animal chewed through the ceiling during my workday. A maintenance person finally showed up and cut a hole in the ceiling. Weeks/Months later a pest control person showed up and put some traps in the ceiling then never came back. Hopefully this wasn’t the paint fee I got charged for when leaving.Charged $50 for losing a plastic parking permit; I only had one car and returned the one I was aware of.Like others mentioned the walls were thin and you could hear everything your neighbors do; like running 2 AM laundry.A neighbor was running a hair salon in their apartment and people would constantly park right behind our car.Lots of litter around and the dumpster areas were always a disaster. The package service area was broken into and then never repaired it.One of our key fobs stopped working. We took it to the front office to see if we could get it fixed and they straight up did nothing and just had it sitting on their desk for ~2 months.

We loved our time in Highland Gardens! We live in a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment on the ground floor. The complex management is timely in their responses - both to emails and maintenance requests. We loved the affordable rent prices given the proximity to the park, covered and uncovered parking, and walkability. Our only complaint would be one shared here pretty frequently - thin walls and floors! Ultimately, it was not an issue and we got used to it pretty quickly. Our guests who visited were the ones who noticed the most - but generally only for the first 24 hours! Overall, neighbors are very thoughtful of one another.

We’re very happy to call this place home. An excellent property manager makes a huge difference, and Arnetta is that and above. She is warm and friendly, and always responds in a timely manner to whatever issues we have, even when they require coordination with other residents or outside contractors. Overall, it’s clear that Arnetta works really hard to improve the community, something we noticed when she first took over. The maintenance crew is also great. There was some turnover, but we’re very happy with the current staff, including Ruben and Francisco, who always fix things right the first time. Our maintenance requests are almost always addressed the next day, regardless of the priority level we assign, and the entire crew is very friendly and helpful.Yes, the buildings are a bit old, though they’ve been refreshed a bit recently. The walls are on the thinner side, so it would probably behoove you to pick a unit with no one above you. This place isn’t perfect—but that’s apartment living; you get used to it. This is a great community: Rengstorff Park is right next door; most places are within short driving distance; and our neighbors have become good friends. We feel very lucky to live at Highland Gardens, and can see ourselves here for the long term.

Lived for about a year and loved Highland Gardens a lot. Right next to Rengstorff Park, conveniently close to Mountain View downtown and San Antonio Center. Good gym with brand new equipments. The management team is amazing, all of them are friendly and so nice. They called me for the package delivered wrongly to the apartment even I after I moved. Wall is bit thin, and unfortunately I had bad luck with my noisy neighbor that was bit tough to work from home. Otherwise, I would have stayed forever :) I miss yall.

I lived in a second floor 1br/1ba in Highland Gardens from late 2017 until early Fall 2020. Overall, this is a pretty decent complex to live in.The main drawback to this complex is that the walls and floors are very thin and do not isolate sound. You will hear most of whats going on in your neighbors apartments. I think most residents of the complex understand this issue and try to be reasonable, but your mileage will vary depending on who your neighbors are. One of the units neighboring ours was eventually turned into an AirBnB, which was a bummer because the short-term guests didnt understand the limitations of the walls. The complex management company was aware of the AirBnB situation, but did not have any issue with it. As an aside, its pretty crazy that someone can create a business in the bay area out of signing a lease for an apartment and then turning around and renting it on AirBnB. The individual doing this with the unit neighboring ours has a website where he sells classes on this.Other than that, this is a decent place to live. The whole complex is under Mountain Views rent control ordinance, which means that rent can only be increased by ~3.5% per year (regardless of whether you have a lease or are month-to-month). We had a lease for the first 12 months, but were month-to-month after that. The neighborhood is nice. Youre relatively close to Mountain Views Castro St (approximately a 15-20 minute walk), where there are a number of restaurants and bars. You can also easily walk out the back gate into Rengstorff Park.It takes about 5-10 minutes to bike to/from the Mt. View Caltrain station, which is how I commuted for most of the time that I lived here (tip: take the underpass to cross Shoreline Blvd). The fitness center in the complex is small, but I never found it to be too crowded and all of the equipment is relatively new.We never had any major maintenance issues, but the few minor cases we had (a light switch breaking and the refrigerator door handle breaking) were handled quickly. The office staff, Arnetta and Dominique, were generally helpful whenever I interacted with them.
