Recently brought my car in for a recent electrical ignition switch recall on my 2019 Sportwagen. I had an 8:00am appointment on a Wednesday. Ricardo checked me in soon after I arrived. I received a text message at 10:30am saying it was finished.Superb service! 2 great service advisors (Ricardo & Alan) at the helm. Dylan was the technician who did the service.It looks to be that theyre still a Family run business amongst the sea of corporate owned dealerships out there. You still get that small mom & pop shop at Herman Cook Volkswagen. This should be your local go to VW dealership in San Diego County. I know it is mine from now on. Thanks again!!👍Update, 5/29/2024:WoW!! The service dept. (Eric, Ricardo, et.al) went beyond my expectations to take care of the misfires that plagued my car since the end of last year (2023). Took a few routine visits back at the dealership for them to pinpoint the exact cause, but they really narrowed it down to the culprit, and also took care of other forseeable future issues that could probably arise. They explained it thoroughly the time they were working on the car & made sure that issue was remedied before giving having me take the car back.Thanks again for the great service.👍🙏

I found Herman Cook’s service department by necessity over not being able to get recalls done on my ID4 from the place I purchased the car. Since using Herman Cook (now three times) they have been outstanding. I was told they were very good and Herman Cook service department has exceeded my expectations. The service managers are all great-worked with Alan this last time and had another great experience in getting the recalls done promptly.

Just got home with my 2019 VW Golf Alltrack purchased from Herman Cook VW in Encinitas. It looks and performs like brand new. This is the second car that Ive bought from this dealership. Cook is the place to go for a great deal on a certified VW. The only difficulty is deciding which car to buy as there are so many outstanding choices here. I worked with Annie on both my purchases and she is super knowledgeable about all things VW and goes all out to help the customer make a good decision. This is a zero pressure dealership. I’ve worked with many finance guys over the years but Alfredo is the best and very personable. It’s a wonderful feeling to wake up the next day and KNOW you got a great car and a great deal from the best VW dealer in San Diego County.

Great service! Ive never been disappointed with the service on my car, from the moment I purchased it at this dealership.There was one small issue. When I left the car, I was told to expect a text when it was ready. The first text I received was sent at 16:57, requesting that I give a review of the service I received. That was several minutes after I drove away. Had I waited until the time on my estimate (18:00), the service department would have been closed for 30 minutes.A minor point, merely noted to prevent a problem in the future.

I have used the repair services here twice and both times I was impressed with the timeliness and professionalism. I know I could have taken my car to another shop for cheaper but it would have been more time more questions and probably not as thorough a service. I definitely recommend these guys the shop. Bought new ID4 from here, very bad experience overall. Finance guy was very rude to the family and asked me why I brought my baby to the dealership and should have left him at home. Just as I drove the car home after purchase, found some alignment and rattling noise at high speed issues, dealership refused to cover that under warranty and said I have to pay $180 for alignment. I asked some paperwork later to get EV tax rebate, never heard back from dealership. I would never step in there in future.

Two scheduled appointments to have a front license plate bracket installed and software update completed. Each appointment I waited for 2+ hours and neither item I was scheduled for were completed after attempting two times.Gentleman we spoke to on the phone was nice but service department seems overbooked. Disappointed that I haven’t been able to get my brand new car serviced for something that should have been installed at purchase since it is required by the state of CA.

Regarding the work on my car, the one thing that I asked for them to look into—to remove the film from the dash display that was left on after the purchase of my vehicle—this was not done completely. After I drove away, I noticed that the film was only halfway peeled off. I peeled it off myself, but I did find this odd.

The technicians are experts and know VW. The service department will always get you the best value for unexpected problems by getting VW to help keep the costs down when they can. I recently bought a used 2018 Atlas and had Herman a cook look under the hood and found it had some problems that were a few thousand miles outa warranty so they got VW parent co to help with cost of parts.i love all my VW cars!

I went in for a 7:30am appt for an oil & filter change and was the first person there. I was greeted by friendly service rep, but then learned that service tech didn’t start until 8:00am. So, it added 30 minutes to my wait time, unfortunately. I would suggest syncing the earliest appointment with the start time for the tech, and I give it 3 stars instead of 5.

I was helping my niece buy a car and didn’t have the best experience at other VW dealers but after speaking to Jesus over the phone we made the 2 hour drive to purchase her first car. Despite reaching a deal, I was given a 30-minute timeframe with a same-day payment limit for the down payment, under the threat of losing the agreed-upon price. The sales representatives dismissive attitude towards the rusty brake rotors added to the frustration. Transparent and respectful service is crucial for customer satisfaction, and I hope my feedback contributes to positive changes in their practices.

Recently purchased a previously owned VW from an out of area dealership. (WAY out) Ive never owned a VW, didnt know who/where to take for servicing, but remembered driving by Herman Cooks VW sign hundreds of times. I called them the next day. After one visit, I knew Id made the right call. I was warmly greeted by service department staff, who reviewed / clearly explained the service at-hand, asked if there were other concerns/issues, and promised to address. The waiting area is comfortable, clean, offers Wifi, business center for computer work, and vending machines with wide variety of snacks/ refreshments. Service was completed well within the time frame quoted, details of service were reviewed at check-out, charges very reasonable, and car was ready and waiting for me. Im giving 3 stars because when I was talking to the service guy I told him I wanted 10w40. He said they don’t have it but when paying for the oil change he then said I could buy it and they would put it in. If he had told me that upfront I could have bought it but now I have to wait for the next oil change.I really like Cook VW. It just would have saved me time if he had said that before.

I checked into Encinitas VW for low tire pressure in my ID4. Found out I had 2 recalls. Ricardo in service quickly set me up with a rental, and I picked my car back up after work the next day. I took my car in for routine maintenance (80,000 mule service). This was my first time at Herman Cook VW. From the moment I arrived till the moment my car was handed back to me, I was impressed with the level of service my car and I received. I bought my vehicle at another VW dealership and the experience hasn’t been great since buying the vehicle. I have been waiting for quite sometime for recalls and an update to be schedule on my vehicle. A very nice woman called me to let me know they had availability immediately and got me scheduled. When I came to drop my car off everyone was very nice and helpful and they even gave me a loaner car while mine was being serviced! Following up on my initial post:I picked my vehicle up on Friday afternoon. Throughout the repair the service center was very communicative.I chose to bring my vehicle to Herman Cook Encinitas exclusively because the service manager (Ricardo Avi Sanchez) I spoke with was the only one, out of SEVERAL dealerships that I contacted, to be proactive in seeking a solution for my vehicle issue. He took the time to help me understand the courtesy vehicle, warrant claim, and repair process and, I feel, genuinely empathize with my situation. When I first arrived at the dealership I was told by the service manager Ricardo Sanchez that the service area was busy. After I explained to him the service light had come on and went off, he advised me to take the car home since there was nothing wrong with it. He did not even look at the car yet. I insisted it get looked at and I left the car. There turned out to be a big issue with the car and a part needed to be ordered and replaced. So much for nothing being wrong with it. I had to ask for a rental, one was never offered to me. The car was at the dealership for over 11 days. I picked up the rental on day 3. The car was returned to me dirty and not charged. I did not have a good experience. The car was serviced because it had to be, and was still under warranty. Beyond that, there was nothing great about the service at Cook. They just did what was required of them and nothing more. I was also treated poorly and dismissed initially, which I did not appreciate.

The breaks on my Atlas make a lot of noise, I have asked the service department about it three times now and the answer I get from Alan is that VW is aware of the issue, but yet nothing is done to fix the problem. Not all Volkswagen dealers are created equal!I have a 2021 ID.4 AWD Pro S which I originally purchased at Bob Baker (now AutoNation) only to discover, to my disappointment, that Bob Baker is not at all equipped nor trained to support EVs (especially when it comes to the HV system). Bob Baker does not have enough trained techs (one) and was unprepared for the 97ZZ (software upgrade for 21/22 ID.4s) and 93P7 (HV battery servicing) campaigns which have been in the works for months at VWoA. They seemed to be surprised when the campaigns started and left me hanging waiting for parts and well call you. When I pressed for a rough date I couldnt even get that.At this point I decided that not all Volkswagen dealers are created equal and began a concerted effort to find a competent dealer who can service/support what they sell (call me crazy!) I called Herman Cook the next week and not only did the *customer service rep* know about both campaigns, she said they were trained/equipped to complete them and said it would take ~2-3 days. She scheduled me right then and also asked me if Id like a loaner. Night/day difference in preparedness to service EVs.The recall/service campaign was completed in the better part of a day and I had my car back happy in the afternoon. Do yourself a favor and dont go anywhere else.

UPDATE: The day after our experience, I received a call from the new car sales manager. He apologized for our experience and asked for additional feedback so he could use it as a coaching opportunity. He also offered us our first maintenance visit for free. We called today to give the dealer a heads-up that we were coming in to test drive and likely lease an Atlas SE. For customers who were prepared to walk away with a new car that same day (on probably the most dead sales day of the week for them), the salesman could have cared less that we were there. In addition to his unaccommodating disposition, he had to keep referring to the manual to answer basic questions about the differences between the trims. At one point, he just handed my husband the spec sheet as if he couldnt be bothered. He kept having to ask colleagues questions that I would have expected a salesperson to know and even brought the finance manager over to walk us through basic lease questions. The icing on the cake? He put a deal in front of us with $1-3K down when the current promotion is 0 down. We decided to take our business elsewhere and drove 10 miles to Escondido where the service has been excellent!

Out visiting cali and had an issue with our VW. They were awesome! Got us in right away and were very knowledgeable and got us out quickly. Ricardo was our service advisor and could not ask for a better advisor.

I don’t usually write reviews, however the service I’ve experienced here has been better than I’ve experienced anywhere else. As a woman with minimal car knowledge I’ve never felt as if I’m getting ripped off. Alan has helped me the past two times I’ve gone in and is very understanding and flexible, taking the time to explain the service and levels of Importance.I could go on and on but I will definitely recommend them to friends and family when needed. This place knows what great costumer service is and puts it into action.
