We used HDR for a down-to-the-studs kitchen and bathroom remodel and couldn’t be happier. Our designers, Kendall and Gia came up with a creative plan that gave us more room and a completely updated look and feel while maintaining our house’s footprint. They listened to our desire to use the most eco friendly materials that we could afford. Kendall, the lead designer for our project, offered just the right amount of suggestions for colors, finishes, lighting and other materials without overwhelming us. She was always responsive to texts and emails and maintained transparency throughout the process. Our project manager, Wilson was also excellent. He was supportive and helpful as we managed to donate our old appliances. He was completely responsive to texts and questions. He was always communicative regarding the status and schedule of the project. He is a brilliant craftsmen, evidenced by his impeccable workmanship. While there were a few small glitches along the way, as there always are with larger projects, they were handled and resolved in a timely and open manner. HDR maintains a policy to complete the design phase and obtain all of the materials before a hammer touches a wall. While this takes time and lots of planning, it assures that the work phase of the project goes smoothly with minimal delays, such as waiting for materials to arrive, etc. The team at HDR was excellent for us and for our project. We love living in our beautifully remodeled home and recommend the company. Thank you Kevin and Kendall and Wilson!

I couldnt be more happy with the work that was done on my house by HDR, which included moving the kitchen to a different area of the house to make it bigger and also enlarging a bedroom. Their design idea was great and a big improvement on what I had originally planned. Working with Andres (Sensitive Information HIdden), the project manager, was the lease stressful experience during a remodel Ive ever had despite this being the largest project I have done thus far. They were able to keep within budget and I had absolute confidence they would take care of everything in a timely fashion. I highly recommend them, if you want a stress free and quality remodel work.

Total redo of the only bathroom in the house - 8 weeks without a toilet/shower...they were sensitive to the issue and got it done on time - even with a 2 week Covid delay in the house. They were professional, very communicative and responsive to our comments from the design phase through the construction phase. We intend to use them again for our next house project.

HDR helped us remodel our kitchen and two bathrooms. They were extremely professional and responsive throughout the whole process and did a beautiful job. They are a design-build firm meaning that they handle everything in-house - they employ both the architects and the contractors. They project manage everything. The whole schedule, all parts, all subcontractors, are all handled for you.Our architect, Milton, was great to work with - very responsive to our needs and vision for what the spaces should look like. He did a lot of research for us and always presented various options for how to accomplish the look we wanted - and at various price points. He helped us make all the big and small design decisions. Our contractor, Alberto, was amazing. We met weekly to review progress and answer any questions. Any problems we noticed or things we wanted changed were handled promptly. Even our neighbors noticed how prompt and hard-working our crew was. These are not the typical contractors where you mentally double the estimates they give you for project completion. They estimated 4 months for our project and finished 2 weeks early.I think you pay a premium for such a high-touch service and so you may take the gamble for someone cheaper who may or may not be as reliable, honest, or hard-working. But if you want the peace of mind for a project that will be on time, on budget, and high quality, HDR is a great option. I highly recommend them!

My wife and I have used HDR for several projects over a period of many years, and we have been delighted with the transformation of our home and our lifestyle as a result. HDR provided needs analysis, designs, coordinated permits, did all of the carpentry, and managed subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, and tile work. We couldnt be more pleased with the results, and we continue to work with them as more ideas come to us.

HDR did a full renovation of our old kitchen beyond a simple remodel. It was a large project, and they were there every step of the way. The planning was very detailed, and everything was set before anything was started. HDR was in constant communication with us during the whole project and kept us informed of every step. The staff was great and so were the contractors, their resourcefulness and determination with getting everything we wanted and doing it correctly was amazing. Also, their promptness in appearing on the job and willingness to cart things away as well as to clean up the site was greatly appreciated. In addition, the clarity with which they issued both invoices and change orders made the job go faster without hassles.Our kitchen turned out great and we are thoroughly enjoying it.

Weve hired HDR for two remodeling projects. Between projects there was a change of ownership and some staff turnover. Yet the quality of the work remains superb. HDR works diligently to satisfy customer needs, wants, and budgetary requirements. Before either project began, they notified neighbors and left their contact information should any problems occur. Once the projects were underway, HDR met deadlines, acted in a professional manner, left the work spaces clean at the end of each workday, and responded immediately to our calls and emails. HDR consistently goes above and beyond to ensure client satisfaction. What we appreciated most was not having to manage subcontractors or worry about any problems that arose. We would hire them again without reservation.

HDR was a great partner in remodeling our two bathrooms. I appreciated the inclusive design/build partnership that made the project run smoothly. The design team heard our ideas and helped us pick things to make them a reality. They set expectations every step of the way and kept meetings focused and clear. They also helped us get questions answered quickly.During the build phase, our project manager was great. He kept us in the loop about what was going on and who we could expect each day. He clearly explained any issues or open questions and gave us options. Also, he kept the site tidy (we were not living on site but I appreciated that things were neat every Friday). HDR Remodel was recommended to us by Remodelers Advantage, an industry association. HDRs sales guy, their architect and their general manager all impressed us and now, after the job is done, we are still impressed with them. We did have some issues with the foreman managing our job. Things were missed or incorrectly done and not caught. When escalated these issues were always made right and this manager is no longer with the company. As we wrapped up the job, the newly assigned foreman has been excellent. In the end the job was top notch and everything was made perfect.

HDR has been my go-to house projects team for 10+ years. Starting with a complex bathroom remodel, then a collection of smaller projects like a deck and floor replacement and last year a major kitchen remodel.This group is highly professional, executes on time and does beautiful work. We hired HDR for drainage work and a home remodeling project. They were super responsive, worked with us to come up with a plan that met our most important needs and was within our budget and ultimately delivered high-quality work that we are very happy with to this day. Working with a design-build firm is a little more expensive but in our opinion is worth it in the long run because of the efficiencies and synergy it brings to the whole process. We are tremendously grateful we decided to partner with HDR for our remodel. Prior to this project, we had little experience with such a large undertaking. We remodeled our kitchen, 2.5 baths, installed floors throughout, new paint throughout the interior, and updated the fireplace. Summarizing our overall experience with HDR:*Timely:* Despite our initial shock of the timeline, there was significant progress each day. It is clear they had optimized each phase given their years of experience with project management.*Communication:* The HDR manager had consistent, weekly update meetings which allowed us to hear the progress and resolve any unexpected issues. They would loop in the additional team members when needed. We hired HDR Remodeling to do a feasibility study to determine if our home addition project was possible within our budget. A 10 out of 10 experience.When there were minor issues that came up with a cabinet after almost 2 years of use HDR was great about repairing the issues free of charge and quickly. As many of you know, the most critical parts of any remodel are the quality of the work, the collaboration with the GC and the responsiveness should any follow up issues occur. My wife and I are thrilled to emphatically recommend HDR Remodeling to anyone considering them for a remodeling project! After interviewing several local full-service remodeling companies, we hired HDR to lead our whole home remodel, a significant 10-month project that brought our 1923 dilapidated Oakland home into the 21st century. We were sold by their warmth and professionalism, innovative perspective, and confidence to get the job done within the parameters we had in mind. I still remember our first meeting with Kevin (Head of Design & Sales), sitting in our living room, listening attentively, providing the affirmations we were hoping for while carefully offering important and sobering reality checks. The honesty and sincerity we perceived in that first meeting never wavered throughout the entirety of the project. Our main takeaway from this whole experience: Things will go wrong. At the end of the day, you want to work with people you trust.HDR took care of everything – the structural design and architecture, plans and permitting, interior/exterior design and aesthetics, project management, budget management… you name it, they did it. We considered trying to manage the project ourselves and assemble our own group of contractors and subs, architect, engineer, designer, etc. – and while this may have saved some money, we are so grateful to have instead gone with HDR for the comprehensive ownership of this complicated project. While the initial budget for our scrappy vision of the project may have been lower, I’m confident the eventual result would have been more expensive, taken longer, and been full of headaches that were all mitigated by HDR’s leadership and experience. For anyone debating on this approach, unless you have extensive remodeling experience yourself, we strongly advise you to let HDR take the reins!Specifically, I want to call out a few qualities that were deeply appreciated throughout the process. Everyone working at HDR (we primarily engaged with Kevin, Chris, Milton, Ana, and Alfredo) was honest, direct, collaborative, empathetic, and flexible. All problems came with a variety of potential solutions with pros/cons to weigh. They listened to our preferences and were very thoughtful with regards to buy-ups, buy-downs (budget balancing), advising where we could save and when it was worth spending a bit more. They were clean, thorough, attentive to detail, and as reliable as you could hope for in this wildly volatile industry. A project this size with this duration is bound to have its issues, and everyone was always pleasant to deal with even (and especially) in the hardest moments. On multiple occasions, they fixed problems at their own cost without trying to negotiate, went above and beyond in upgrading certain designs or materials without charging us, and were always transparent with pricing and options when we had to eat a change order. Don’t get me wrong – anyone taking on this kind of project should expect the timeline and budget to exceed the original projections – but this was way less painful than we feared, largely due to HDR’s professionalism and savvy.Our project was quite massive for a relatively small Rockridge home. In 2017, we bought a 2 bed, 1 bathroom, 1500 sqft, split-story home that had significant damage requiring remedy (we were fully aware of upon purchase!). Roughly 1 year after we first engaged HDR, we moved back into our 3 bed, 2 bath, 1900 sqft home with the polish and preferences we always dreamed of. Suffice it to say HDR did a phenomenal job with everything. We would absolutely work with HDR again on our next project, and encourage you to give them a call!Lastly, given how glowing this review is, I want to make clear that we were not incentivized to write this review in any way, and these are our sincerely held feelings about the good people at HDR.

HDR was great. Weve done three construction projects in the past decade, two of them with different contractors and this most recent one with HDR, so we know when things arent done well. HDR was responsive, they listened, and they did great work. Nothing is ever perfect - there was one sub that didnt do a good job. We didnt have to complain; HDR was on it and they made the sub come back and redo the work. Thats the sign of a good contractor.

We first met with architect Kevin Mond who toured our home and listened to our concerns, offering advice on which projects to focus on and which to prioritize for a future date.This initial meeting led to a 9+ month relationship with nearly the whole team, beginning with Kevin followed by brilliant designer Milton Tong whose innovative, forward thinking design work helped us dial in all of our ideas into two cohesive designs to iterate from, and ending with one of the best construction project manager’s we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, Julio Perez, who creatively iterated on and meticulously executed the design for our dream home.The care and dedication shown to us throughout every stage of this project, including all of the design pivots we made to improve the structural integrity and enhance the design without sacrificing what makes this home aesthetically pleasing, was above and beyond. We remodeled two bathrooms to upgrade fixtures and improve access for a mobility impaired individual. Midway through we added replacement of some exterior siding to remove dry rot. The project was well run and everyone was professional in every way. The final results are exquisite.

It was the first major remodel project we’ve done and from beginning to end, they exceeded our expectations. The design team really listened to what we wanted and helped bring our vision to life, incorporating new ideas yet maintaining the style and sensibility of the original home which was important to us. I needed custom made hanging shelves to display artwork and other items in a hallway and bathroom. Although it was a small project, I contacted HDR since they had remodeled several parts of my home previously and I knew that they do excellent work. They carefully selected the wood to match my cabinets and did the project quickly and neatly.

Called this company to have them look at a large deck that I needed to have rebuilt. They told me they would look at it and get back to me. Never heard back, so I called them a week later and they said they are not interested. Would have been nice if they were straightforward with me from the beginning.
