I was at Betty Ford in Palm Springs in March, 2024. I completed the detox and Residential program and have been sober ever since. I was a shell of a human walking into Betty Ford. Alcohol had taken over my life and things were unraveling quickly. I have been to another rehab facility and Betty Ford is far superior in their knowledge and treatment of addiction. A lot of treatment centers seem to provide education on the disease, but do not provide much insight on how to treat the disease. Betty Ford provided a lot of insight and education on how to treat the disease outside of a residential program. I really liked living in a hall with other patients. Everyone works together to keep the hall clean and your hall does a 10th step meeting every evening. I also appreciated the specialty groups, although, when it is just an average of a 21 day program, it takes awhile to be evaluated for the specialty groups you will be recommended for. The campus is large and beautiful. There is a lot of opportunity for exercise and a very nice gym on campus. Most all of the staff is in recovery themselves. I think some rehab centers have gone too far in being “luxury” and while this can be a nice vacation, I never found a luxury treatment center to be the answer to long term sobriety. Betty Ford has a nice balance in being a nice treatment center, but it is also hard work and takes some effort and accountability on your part.Betty Ford is a true community and even after discharge, I have received follow up phone calls to ensure I am doing okay.Pros:-Knowledgeable staff-Large campus(you don’t feel trapped or like you are in a hospital)Excellent groups-Food is pretty decent-You get to keep your cell phone and belongings(this was huge for me as I have kids i wanted to stay in contact with) I have been in an treatment center where they take your phone and credit cards. I felt like a prisoner. Betty Ford does a nice job of letting the patient keep some autonomy in treatment.-Lots of opportunity for recreational timeThe program is set up to provide support and a community feel.-AA/NA/CA speakers each night. Although I was tired by this time of night, the speakers were excellent! I especially loved the alumni speakers on Friday evenings.-Betty Ford Center has been around a long time. They know their stuff and it’s evident. No one is forced to be there and you truly are free to leave if it’s not the right fit. I also think they do a nice job screening incoming patients, ensuring it’s the right fit and keeping the Betty Ford Center safe for current patients.Things I felt could use improvement:-everyone is a assigned a counselor, but you will not receive therapy at Betty Ford. Many people who struggle with addiction also have underlying mental health issues. While residential treatment is not the place to dive into deep traumas, I do think the center as a whole can do a better job of offering more individual mental health support.- some of the techs really struggle. One in particular seemed to love drama and seemed to stir a lot of drama up with other staff and patients.- the nursing staff on the residential side seemed really burnt out. Some of them were just downright rude.- the after care coordinator was not very knowledgeable. I live out of state(like many people who come to Betty Ford do) and she met with me for maybe 5 minutes and indicated they are “under staffed” in the after care coordination department. After care is crucial for someone leaving such a high level of care.Overall, I highly recommend Betty Ford to anyone struggling with an addiction. I was there for alcohol abuse. Every treatment center is going to have pros and cons, but after being out of treatment for almost 60 days and remaining sober, it is evident I gained lots of tools to live my life sober. Sadly, lots of treatment centers feel like a business, but Betty Ford did not. It felt like a community and they really did care. Like anything, you will get out of it what you put into it.

I had such an amazing time. All of the staff was so encouraging, polite and supportive. Being my second time at Betty Ford, I knew what was expected of me and knew what work that needed to be done. I truly appreciate everyone that was instrumental in my recovery and continued sobriety

I have nothing to compare this to, as it it was my first residential experience. It was very well-rounded between spirituality/attempts to find it, 12 steps, and neuroscience. The staff was great and I believe set me off with the tools to do that actual work.

Most of the councilors ignored me and ignored what I was trying to get help with using my age against me. I do not appreciate how you guys treat us like prisoners when we talk to other halls or people of the opposite gender yet you have a co-ed hall to itself ?? I do not like how some of the employees ignored or downplayed whatever we were feeling just because we did not look that bad. I do not appreciate how difference of opinions are not shown as bright as people with the same opinion. Also mental health and mental illness is just as important as physical health and physical illness. And being there I learned that addiction is the cause of people who did not get the right mental health support they needed when they were younger because they were taught it is not okay. Alcoholism and drug use and all that is because a lot of people ignore mental health, they ignore mental illness. Which is why how many are on antidepressants mood stabilizers meds like that ?? Oh that’s right a lot of them. Start taking mental health a little more seriously. And treat all ages the same. Do not discredit someone because they are young. Shoutout to melissa though !!! I love her !! And my boy andre and the nurse that advocated for me getting a breathing treatment that night when everyone did not let me finish the medicine. I forgot your name but thank you so much!!!!

To all my Great Counselors and Techs., Drs. ALSO.......I spent 21 days at this facility. Excellent programming opportunities. Great food! However, there is one med station that supplied two male dorms. One of the dorms at once only had 2 males to serve, that were never on time. Most of the GREAT Med. Staff would just says next. And that was it. However, one absolutely refused to serve U TIL It was your time. I saw her serve the two andock the door until the clock struck 9.. unbelievable and the bad part was some of us were east coast time,so its already midnight... and then the meds I was promised to be sent home with never made it.So I have to go ho and start where I started when I wanted the HELP...... GROUND ZERO..... EVERYONE KNEW NOONE STEPPED IN. UNTIL AFTER I WAS HO.E FOR A WEEK

Great staff and facilities. Every member of the staff will make sure you are getting the most out of your experience there and will drop what they are doing most of the time to help you if needed. Daily structure is busy but simple and very educational.

Had a wonderful experience at Hazeldon Betty Ford. They taught me the tools to stay sober. I’m proud to be an Alumni. Maybe in 2 years I could work here.

To: Friends of BettyThank you so much to all the staff, including the cleaning and janitorial departments. I would like to express special recognition to Amanda (RN) for going above and beyond. When I asked for a Bible, she looked all over the room(s) to try to locate one for me, with no results, on her way home she went out of her way to purchase a Bible, and gave it to me as a gift, Thank you!.Nurses play an integral role in the patients recoveryNursing is a metaphor for mothering. When we come into detox, some of us act like unruly children and Nursing has links with nurturing, caring, comforting, the laying on of hands, and other maternal types of behavior, all of which are seen in our society as essentially mundane, and hardly worth noticing. Thank you for all of your sympathetic nurses and their spirit of “self-sacrifice”.Your dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and I appreciate all that youve done for me. Your help has made a difference.I would like to express my gratitude to Eric, the counselor, for his exceptional support during a difficult time. His advice and guidance helped me to think through my situation, and I deeply appreciate his thoughtful and personalized approach to counseling. Unlike some counselors who offer quick, one-size-fits-all solutions, Eric recognizes that every person and situation is unique, and he takes the time to understand his clients needs.I am particularly grateful that Eric emphasizes the importance of communication, rather than jumping to conclusions or making hasty interpretations. He has a remarkable ability to perceive what lies beneath the surface and to draw out his clients inner motivations discreetly and respectfully.Thank you again for your invaluable support.Sincerely,Angel VMcCallum Hall, November 2023

The staff and the program are both incredible and feel unparalleled. An extremely safe and comfortable environment to be vulnerable in.My only hang up since leaving treatment is the lack of availability for contact of an attending physician. I’m in need of a return to work form/disability and have attempted to contact them for nearly two weeks. Even after calling every day and reaching out through other staff, my needs have not been met, nor have they even been acknowledged.EDIT: I’ve been contacted and told that I’d be out in touch with someone who would assist me, it’s been two weeks and not a peep from anyone.

I came here looking for help with my alcohol abuse and after being honest with them and needing more medication, they placed me on a 5150. I regret the day I ever came to Betty Ford and would advise you to be careful accepting their services. They have no idea what it means to connect to their patients. Never talk to their counselors, they call you on a 5150 and place you in a psych ward.
