My husband and I absolutely adore this bookstore. Its like stepping back into our childhood with its wide selection of books, movies, and video games. Weve purchased several books here, and theyre incredibly affordable with a vast variety to choose from. Additionally, you can sell your own books, although be prepared for potentially low prices. I once sold some college textbooks here, valued at a few hundred dollars, only to receive $20 in return. However, despite that, the customer service is exceptional - everyone is friendly and helpful. Its a must-visit for any book lover!

Sold my old vinyl, CDs, books, and comics. Decent offer and friendly service. I like that they dont cherry pick what they want and make you take the rest home, and they even take care of recycling cardboard boxes or other containers for you.

Have the most repetitive collection and are overpriced for USED and poor quality books.I like to save money and in case you do too- you can buy some of the books NEW at a cheaper price from Barnes & Noble or Amazon or Powell’s. To buy used books for cheaper, buy online. I even found special editions on Abebooks for cheaper than a used book here.To support small businesses buy from Books Inc. and Banter who sell NEW books for similar price as this store.Worst place to sell anything- they lowball you and give you cents for hundreds of dollars worth of books and games.

Bookstore focused on used books. They have a board games section that includes some older overstock board games that are still new. They also have some older used video games and consoles. They have a shelf dedicated to manga, which includes a few newer releases that are probably used.

Got some cheap nice board games and a manga volume.It was nice relaxing and had lots of items to browse. Quite a bit of thing you can’t fine anywhere else.Definitely recommend checking out if you’re in the area. There’s an entrance at the parking lot and in the middle area of the mall.

Great used bookstore if youre buying. Insultingly low offers if youre selling. I had a set of The Art of Computer Programming which sells for $175 used, and they offered $12 for it, which is around 6% of the used price. Expect less if its not brand new, or if they have several copies of a book. The only reason to sell here is if you just want to be rid of a ton of books and were planning on giving them away. Staff were nice, they dont have any room to haggle and dont set the policies.

Half Price Books has mostly books, movies, manga, and video games for people to enjoy. Its organized when every product inside the store are shelved based on its category in alphabetical order. You can basically buy things here at a cheaper price. You may not find everything you want here, but appreciate what they have in the store. One day, the items youre looking for will be stocked!

Dont sell your books here if your books are rare and valuable. Go to a reputable dealer in San Francisco where they have knowledge of what the books are. Staff members have no knowledge whatsoever about rare books dont waste your time at this shop.

I have been going to this bookstore ever since I discovered it a year ago and go frequently. They have a large selection of books of every kind and also comics. Not to mention they also sell vintage/ video games and consoles at a cheap price. Like going there because I never know what I will find and the staff is very friendly.

Well - To Manga Book Collectors ~~~~ this is THE BEST PLACE you can get to look & buy Manga series physically in the Tri-city Area !! i have over 150 volumes n most of mine from here with HALF the original price !! Sometimes from Clearance with $10 for 10... i couldnt find all 10 but like i paid $2 each for 3 volumes of the Shinobi Life Romance Manga series !! What a great buy!! They have some Attack on Titan volumes too which are about $5.99 each !! LUV ITTTT

Great collection and they have so many books available here! The staff is really helpful and I love that you can sit and browse as long as you like. If youre looking for a particular book that isnt really available, they can arrange for it to be picked up from their store if you order online. Gently used books in good condition.Taking off one star only because their buy back doesnt offer great value. But I understand that a lot of things go into consideration for that and the local staff cant do much about it.

Conventional used book store with a fair number of overstock books new. The selection is eclectic. Its a place to browse, not to run in for a specific title.Like most used bookstores, you dont get much for buyback but its reflected in pretty good prices for the books as a customer.

They dont pay much at all for really good books bought from their store in the past, yet they sell them for much more. So buy a half price book for $10 bucks, bit dont expect to get even a dollar to sell it back! Bad business. At least pay a reasonable amount while still able to sell it again at the same purchase price as before to still profit. Greed is evil. Its killing this country faster than melting ice cream on a hot day.

I absolutely love this place! It seems like they have everything! Books under every topic of course, but they also have audio books on CD and cassette, they have music, games, puzzles, and other crafts. And they even buy these kinds of things when you bring them in. They wont buy everything, but they donate what they dont buy to other programs. But, if you want back what they dont buy, you can request that ahead of time. Prices for your items is not great, but you would be hard pressed to sell these things for better anywhere else. This area does not have any new book stores *such as Borders), do it is wonderful to have place to go and browse for books. Most items are in good condition. I rarely ever see things in bad condition and Im pretty picky, so that says a lot. And if you are looking for a specific book, you can call ahead to see if they have it, and theyll tell you what condition its in and even hold it for you to give you time to go get it.

For a used bookstore, Im thrilled with the selection. Ive found many old classics, leather or cloth bound, from the late 1880s. Their selection changes frequently, so I like to stop by every other week or so. Beyond that, they tend to have whatever has been popular in the last 10yrs.If youre searching for a little known, or specific book, try Amazon or a Barnes & Nobel instead.The staff have always been extremely helpful, polite, & kind.

Half price books is a great stop for those who still enjoy reading of any age and lots of different genres. I love stopping by to see what I can find. They organize based on subject/genre making it was easier to narrow down by interest. Most books are also severely discounted to help save some money. They also buy back books!!! This is a great way for me to fund my book habit. Recycling those back that I have already read and getting some money to buy something new. Definitely stop by!!!

Great book store with great prices. They have a large discount section where you can find books and movies for $1 - $3. You can also pick up new books here as well. Very nice book store. They buy back your books - which is great! They will recycle any of your books that they are not able to buy back.The store is very well organized and clean. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, help you find books that you are looking for.This store sells a variety of books ranging from reference books, foreign language books, childrens books, etc. They also sell DVDs and CDs. Most of the items I saw were priced fairly and were in very good to like new condition. Plan on spending here minimum an hour if you like books! I will be coming here again.

A gem in my book. For a city the size of Fremont, its sad and unfortunate that it doesnt have a legitimately sized book store. Amazon killed the competition as we all know.Fortunately, theres half price books that offers a modest substitute. Sell your used books and with the cash you earn, you can buy something that suits your fancy.Bargain books (about $3) are located to the left past the DVDs. Youll be surprised at what you can find.Newer books are on the right at the front of the store and you might walk right past themYou may not find what you need to read but you may find what youve always thought of reading.

They have good collection of books. I usually go there since my 5 yr old is a voracious reader and loves to have a book per week. To cut down the expense, we tried this store and to my surprise they have used and new- all books. I dont mind using used books since they are well kept and in great condition. $2 can get great story books, $5 to $10 can get encyclopedias and novels and most of them. A must visit if you are a book lover.

I went in to see if they were interested in some of my old books. The store is clean, well stocked and well marked regarding covid guidelines and I was greeted immediately by a friendly employee. I had two boxes of books for her to look over so I had time to wander around the store. It is really a blast to the past for me with a lot of vinyl from back in the 70s as well as single 45s. The book selection and DVD selection is quite extensive too. If you live nearby and are looking for some books, LPs etc., at a good price, I would recommend that you check them out. PS. I didnt get much for my books but its nice to know that someone may enjoy them - they took about 50% of what I brought in.

Excellent service! I usually have a question when Im there and I always get a friendly employee to help me. Ive asked for specific titles to be looked up and been personally walked to the appropriate section. Ive had inventory be checked for books in other locations and ordered to be picked up in my local store. When I brought my 10 year old niece, who likes horror, in to pick out her birthday present, and I didnt know where to start, an employee made suggestions and my niece picked out with three books. Ive sold back books several times and they will let you know which arent worth money so you can choose to donate them instead.

Awesome store with thousand of titles in all genres and medium. They have some pretty crazy finds like hard to find Nintendo Gameboy units, some obscure titles you would not find anywhere else. Their record collection is awesome as well. Really impressed with customer service. Located on a strip mall that has seen better days.

Everyone is friendly and environment is welcoming but do not sell your old books or textbooks here. I sold two textbooks here that were worth at least 30 dollars each used and they ended up giving me 17.25 for both. Complete waste of time just go donate your books or use bookscouter to sell online to companies that will actually give you your books value.

The store is huge and well stocked with books, music CDs, vinyl Records, games, comic books, calendars, video games, toys, etc..... there was so much to look at. Very good selection of books. Most books are used so dont expect the experience of a standard bookstore with all of the new releases. You will search the shelves and stumble upon something good and at a good price. When all of the mainstream bookstores shut down in this area well this is what is left. Wow, what highway robbery when one tries to sell books to them. In my case, about 15 books in fair to very good condition, some hard cover and rare, the offer- $4.80. This was a place where I used to spend hours and would buy some books so long as it was a decent price and condition. No more. They offer cents and resell at high dollar value no matter the condition. It is American corporate rip-off passing off as agents of literacy, but more about making profits off the good intentions of loyal customers as well as nostalgia. They continue returning and taking their meager offers for boxes and this is the problem. This is my first time doing this as Ive always donated countless books to the public library and certainly will continue doing so. The irony of it all is that if I would have had an offer above $10 I would have spent it on specific books I was eyeing at the store. Their loss in so many ways! For sure, the BBB will hear about this, although the amount of online complaints is staggering. Im pretty sure that store closures are in the future for this meager chain.

Good selection, but definitely a flea market kind of approach to book shopping. You never know what you will find or not find as the case may be. They do also have DVDs, vinyl records, games etc. So not just a bookstore. If youre in the mood for browsing for physical books to purchase, which is a rarity these days, this is as good a place as I need to go to.

I went to buy a banjo chord book. They didnt have it in their music section, so I asked the woman behind the counter. She asked the woman sorting books behind her to check the computer catalogue for me. She didnt seem impressed in the slightest: she started coughing her lungs out while I waited there. She had unfriendly looks and seemed irritated. I stood there for a while then left. Also: They call it half price books, but their retail price is actually higher than full price books. Not recommended!

Selection was surprisingly deep for a smaller storefront, but this branch really should be named 80% Price Books, and theyll offer as little as possible for any trade-ins you have. Its also pretty obvious that they get their pricing values from Amazon, and charge the same price youd pay for used entertainment from there or eBay. Made me miss the stores up in Seattle. Went twice, dont think Ill go again.

Its great just to have a bookstore where you can browse at leisure. Half Price Books has a wide selection of used and new books, calendars, CDs, DVDs and a host of other things. I have gotten some really nice childrens books and cookbooks there that I wouldnt have known about. They also buy books from you but note that text books get a better price. The location in Berkeley is pretty good too.

Good new and used book selection. Buyback is miniscule. Might have better luck up at Moes in Berkeley but that does depend on the books. Lots of DVDs, vinyl, CDs, as well as a nice selection of comic books and anthologies. Large Sci Fi section is always good. Plenty to look at and spend time on. Real book stores rock.

I brought 1 box of books yesterday and was given 4.12. retail for the books were over 200.00. i was advised the books would not sell fast enough for them and they needed books to sell fast in order to bring back employees. i came from Sunnyvale and it was not worth my time or gas for 4.12. i know they will make 200 - 300 dollars for the books and paid me about 4-5 cents a book that will sell over time. plus some dvds. i was given some flack that i could always take the books back. so i was paid 4-5 cents a book. that the store will charge 4.00 for. i think donating to Goodwill or the library would be better and we would not waste our time. they have no respect for their customers and steal from them when they pay so low for books. i would have felt better if they were able to pay 25.00 for the lot. i understand that they have to make a profit. but i think ill donate my books next time and saving my time and gas

Only bookstore in Fremont left. I recommend not hassling the workers because your trash is well...trash.Other than that, the selection here is not as robust as other HPB locations. Tried finding a newer title the past couple months to no avail.Still, its what Fremont has, and probably a decent place to find textbooks for learning, but maybe not a good place to find popular books, as they likely sell fast here.

Everything you expect a used and trade in book store place to be. You can tell these folks take the business seriously as it is run very professionally which makes it feel more like a no nonsense shop than a mom and pop affair would be. Not that the latter doesnt have its charm but if youre looking for a straight forward experience. This is your place. I have found the prices offered to be fair when I have brought in my own items to be traded in. The offer you cash or credit but I recommend cash just for the sake of diversity unless you are picking something up on the sport. Once your value is offered and you accept you can pick up the cash at the front register which is a process they should streamline. Why not just give the cash at the trade in counter? Great place to buy actual books. They may not always have the book youre looking for but its a great place to find new things to read. I usually buy poetry and historical fiction books here. One of the rare bookstores still standing! Cute bookstore to take your kids to or enjoy on your own. They sell new and used books across many genres, and even sell second-hand video tapes and CDs for those that still have VCRs and CD players. Hey, this book store is pretty cool. They dont just sell books, they sell other stuff too. Why dont you go there and check it out. I actually bought a book there as a gift for a friend. I hope she likes it. It had a lot of pages in it. It was really good value. I think I bought it for a little less than ten bucks. And lets say it had 400 pages, thats two and a half cents per page. Thats a pretty good value per page dont you think?

Always a good time at HPB. We pre-shopped the week prior and were lucky enough to find all of our items still on the shelves. it was another great visit to one of our favorite treasure hunting places. Rude employees who look like they all came from some punk rock band. The heavy female manager with the colorful hair, beware she dont like people approaching her. If your looking for something, look for it yourself, dedicate a good few hours to find what you need, BUT! Beware! Do not ask for help. It was my first visit and it was an eye opener. Yes, there are half price books but surprisingly, they are new. I was expecting used books for that price. There was a clearance aisle too that had DVDs and more used books. I just bought a movie from Amazon that I couldve purchased for less. They had a collection of CDs plus vinyl records too. I forget how little they give you for your books. I brought in a dozen travel guides that I paid about $5 each at this store plus several more items of lesser value. They paid a whopping $6.50. Its good thing that I can find some random books on a subject of interest at HPB, however, I have been disappointed by their pricing. Its supposed to be half price, but I was surprised to find a book the other day priced as new, when in fact it was fairly used. Needless to say, I decided to get a brand new book from Amazon instead. So I put that book away, along with other two books I intended to buy and I got them from there. They should realize that nowadays one can check pricing instantly.

Woth all the other books stores closing down its nice go have a quaint place to go and just browse. I love how the books are arranged by categories that a totally make sense. Southern Alameda County is a literary wasteland- a bibliodesert, if you will. Our choices out here are few and far between. Half Price Books is an oasis in this desert. Ive called about 4 weeks ago to have a book from the Citrus Heights HPB store transferred here and they havent called back. They have forgotten about my request. I was able to receive an order quicker from a seller on eBay. They are also low ballers when buying from customers. They also have recod players, record holders, poloroids, many past games with past consoles and, many souvenirs. The plus, is that it is cash. Had my other book place not moved to Gilroy, I would be getting trade credit at a much much higher value.For buying: I love the selection and ever changing selection. We love our HPBs, its our pastime place. We usually go to the Dublin location, which has good books and theyre clean and organized. This Fremont location is even better. The book selections are better (i.e. eclectic subjects and more specialized science and engineering books) and many of their books are in really great condition. Many of their kid series books have never been opened or untatterred.

Due to Marie Kondos Netflix shows massive popularity, its like half of Fremont donated their book collections with me included. So, typical wait time is around an hour and you have to stay in store. This seems to be a less well known location for HPB, and its a welcome addition to the Hub. The Hub, on its own seems more like a ghost town than anything with a large swath of storefront designated for a messy contract security department. The HPB store is brightly lit, comfortable for browsing and well staffed with a friendly and knowledgeable group of book worms.The selection here is similar in scope to the other HPB stores, only a bit less picked over (probably due to its location) than the Berkeley or Concord stores. The prices are as affordable as any other HPB but given the selection Id say that theres more value here.
