Location: Located at the far end of downtown Los Gatos, this coffee shop is very easy to miss if you drive or even walk by. Free parking is available on the street and around the block.The storefront is nestled and hidden well by adjacent buildings so as you get closer, do look out for the signs.They have a great selection of coffee and snacks. I ordered the rose infused latte and was pleasantly surprised by the nice aroma of rose and the subtle yet appealing rose flavor. The drink was made well and absolutely recommend you try this if its listed on the menu.They do have adequate space inside the store but also outside. The day was warm and pleasantly inviting to sit outside and tried it. You do have to put up with the noise from heavy vehicles passing through.

Note: only got coffee, so not judging the food.Nice atmosphere (reason for 3 stars); latte was scalding hot with burnt milk; burnt milk taste, covering any coffee flavor.Asked staff if they roast coffee - judging by the name. 2 of them weren’t sure, 3rd said yes. I asked if they had descriptions of their coffee, and they pointed at a wall, where some generic coffee names were written, without any hints/descriptions. Initially I wanted to buy some coffee to try at home, but after the staff’s tentative and confused reactions, I gave up.

I have now stopped coming to your location, because you quit offering the sausage breakfast burrito which was an amazing burrito and tasted fantastic. It was definitely the best thing on the menu. Now Im being forced to only have vegan food because the new owner is apparently vegan and doesnt want other people to have choices in life. Please fix your menu so that you support everyone equally. Taking my business elsewhere as a result. I hope you can fix your menu back to having good food on it. Thank you.

This is a very cute little cafe. The staff were very friendly and quick. I got a vanilla oat latte and a vegan marmalade scone, both were delicious! My one complaint is how HOT it is in there. We wanted to eat in but the heat was unbearable. The staff looked sweaty and uncomfortable, as was I. They shouldnt be working in those conditions, this place really needs an A/C.

I have lived in San Jose for 18 years, in Santa Clara and every weekend we go to different areas of the bay. One of my favorites is Los Gatos. After lunch we go to Great Bear Coffee to drink coffee or matcha, many times with lemon cake or pastries and work on the internet because the Wi-Fi is strong. In summer time we sit outside and always order the Famous Chocolate Coffee Cream, just delicious. The staff is young dynamic & friendly. The place is spacious and has tables for four people - my favorite in winter - and other larger ones for 8 people to share. It also has 4 tables outside and now in times of covid they added more space on the street. I highly recommend it for a break with something delicious to eat and a good coffee. 😄☕️Update: We took our drinks for a picnic 🧺 happy to see they use Eco friendly paper hot cups 🪴

Man, I really wanted to like this place. On the upside, the decor is cute and the person who served me was friendly.But the coffee was awful! We got two sips in and couldnt keep going - it was super bitter. It wasnt the ratio of coffee to milk, either: I got a single-shot cappuccino. Expected better from a roastery, too.Bottom line: if youre coming for pastries or a sweet drink it might be fine, but dont order a normal coffee.

This coffee shop is the definition of cute and cozy! i got the peppermint mocha which was one of the holiday specials recommended to me by one of the baristas and it tasted like holiday spirit :) loved how roomy the interior is and definitely a great study or remote work space. will have to come back and try their pastries and food.

Brand new owner. Same Great Bear!After “The Bear” was sold a couple of months ago, I was worried that the new owner would change everything so that he could put his stamp on the place. Fortunately, he decided to keep the same unique character of the original shop while just making a few tweaks. The old bathroom has been updated, the walls have been freshly painted (but the clever trompe loeil murals are gone), the floors have been replaced, and there’s a large new outdoor seating area with colorful tables and chairs. He wisely kept the experienced baristas, including the longtime manager. Most importantly, his team still roasts the same high quality coffee beans on-site so you know you’ll always get a fresh cup.I had a chance to chat with the new owner, Abdy Mirzadegan, while he was grinding a pound of beans for me. Environmental reviewer here. This is my favorite coffee shop in LG. The coffee is always good (they know how to pull a shot), they wear masks consistently, they have drink-in mugs to reduce waste, and their to go cups are a mix of compostable plastic and paper. Plus theyre open early and have a great vibe.

Their drinks are very good and have been going here for ages. However since they are using paper straws rather than another alternative compostable, I will have to give them 4/5 stars. Paper straws ruins a good drink.Please fix the straw issue and you’ll get 5/5 stars.It is a shame with terrible county/state laws rather than market shifts that cause unwanted things like this where the consumer becomes the victim.

3.28.21 Sunday afternoon - Baristas are highschool kids working the register and making drinks. Long line of people and didnt move for about 10 mins .. only to discover the hold up was a friend in line chatting w workers . One lady left the line . Aggravated and yelled incompetent in the store and sidewalk as she left. After the friend left, the line went surprisingly fast.. mostly because all the annoyed customers made quick orders to be courteous to people who had been waiting in line with them. We finally got our drinks and realized none of them were mixed. All the syrup globbed into the bottom.(see photo). I really want to support local business, however Great Bears actions suggest they doesnt really care about its customers. If you read the reviews youll get puzzled by the 5 stars next to the 2 stars. This is because they have a lack of consistency with coffee, people and service..its an ongoing problem they have had with their business for the last 5 yrs. If you dont want to gamble on your coffee, go to Los Gatos Coffee Roasters ( 2 min walk) ..better service and proper baristas without attitudes and most importantly no chatty teenagers ! - good luck !

Hot afternoon- wanted a better than Starbucks iced Latte. What a disappointment! Was quick and easy to place the order. The order preparation took over 10 mins. The place was not packed. I watched the “barista”. Like he was in slow motion. No urgency or purpose in what he was doing. The drink itself was terrible. Best as I can tell - they poured drip coffee over ice and added milk. I would have poured it in a sink rather than drink it.

Downtown Los Gatos Coffee scene: good food, nice outdoor (& indoor) seating, expensive. Loved the pistachio latte - nice pistachio flavor, not overly sweet. I got an extra (decaf) shot, which made the coffee just strong enough (meaning without it, the standard wouldve been too weak). We had the berry pie (too sweet) and quiche (good but too small). Dog friendly outside.

First bad experience at the Great Bear on 20 years!..The barista proudly served the iced latte drink with the milk dripping down the side of the cup and all over the counter. As I struggled to put a lid on, spilling more liquid down the side and all over the counter she didnt offer to help remove some of the milk from the cup. I asked her to remove some milk and she removed an inch!...I kindly cleaned up the spill in the counter with napkins and the barista says oh I can clean that up, snarky, no apology or acknowledgement that she overfilled the drink in the first place. It wouldnt have been a big deal, I get it it was overfilled, but her snarky attitude is what really got me. Expected more friendly customer service and a simple apology from the barista. The Great Bear 99% of the time has amazing customer service.

Consistently good coffee, large selection of pastries and many options for vegans . I don’t feel excluded here like in many other coffee shops. Love the atmosphere. This place is great! The customer service is very good. They are more than willing to exchange or remake food/drinks if it isn’t what you thought it would be or isn’t good. Also, to clarify, service dogs are allowed but emotional support animals are not due to strict health code rules. The baristas are just doing their job :) Added bonus is they roast coffee twice a week, so the coffee is always fresh! I will definitely be continuing to come back to this place and recommend it to anyone looking for a nice coffee shop with amazing coffee!

Very busy coffee shop. Really good pies and coffee. Have been here a few times and I do come back when in Los Gatos. Funny thing, the person at the register didnt give me my change ( nine cents). I hate to seem cheap, but I asked about it and if this was a California thing (as its happened to me a few times the last couple of days). They apologized and said not it wasnt a California thing. They did not offer to give me the change back however. Will have to think if I need to come back here again.

If you value a good latte and know what it is - avoid this place at all cost. Instead of a latte they are boiling a huge keg of milk to extreme temperature, pour it into your espresso and top it up with foam leftovers, scraping it out of the bottom of the jar with a spoon.No textured milk, no right temperature, no latte art and basically no respect for coffee making process - surprised so many people rate it so highly still. Had to throw my coffee into trash, could not drink it.

This coffee shop is like your mature and wise yet young and hip best friend. I was pleased to find a nice variety of food including gluten free and vegan options along with organic coffee options. Theres plenty of space to sit with a group or to work on a laptop. The staff are friendly, the prices are reasonable and theres plenty of 2-3hour free public parking nearby.

This place has the best coffee. Period. And yes, Ive tried Blue Bottle an Philz which are also quite good, but we always come back here. I recommend the blend called organic Blue Note. Also the French and Italian are excellent. If you cant have caffeine, their decaf Italian is by far the best decaf I have ever had. There is always a line in here for ordering coffee, but the staff here is so efficient it never takes long.

So, after reading the reviews, I tried their chocolate coffee cream...and wow its as amazing as people say. Its fairly large, so make sure to bring a friend. I particularly liked that they made their own whipped cream which added to the deliciousness.Would definitely go here again.

Low key place with great coffee. Great place to relax and grab a quick bite of some pretty good eats. Cold brew mocha java is the bomb. Its good on its own even if you dont normally enjoy your coffee black. Low on tannins (not bitter) and actually tastes like chocolate as the name implies. Mmmmmmm....

They make specialized coffee and they have a wonderful chai tea. The whipped cream that they put on your coffee or chai tea is absolutely amazing! Its a secret recipe they say. LOL everybody in there are always in a good mood and laughing theres plenty of places to sit on your computer and their Wi-Fi password is on a sign on the counter. I am from Florida and I have not been to a coffee shop as nice as this one. The young lady behind the counter and the young gentleman that waited on us were very kind and helpful well. Coffee latte were okay, not much better than Starbucks; pastries not very appealing. Tried artichoke quiche: the artichokes were guite dry: either overbaked or the quiche was sitting on display for some time. I was planning to spend couple of hours in cafe, working on my laptop, but had to leave sooner: the entrance door was squeaking very loudly every time someone came in or out. That long and loud squeak was unbearable after about 15 minutes, it goes on nerves... Had to find another place. I am not coming there again.

***BEWARE OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT***Came in with a positive attitude looking for a nice cup of coffee with my service dog. The barista was extremely rude and proceeded to tell me that they didn’t allow service dog. My father came in before me with the dog and the owner or the barista didn’t say anything to him, which leads me to believe the barista had a problem with me for no reason. On my way out I decided to tell her that I didn’t appreciate her attitude, I asked for her name and her manager and she wouldn’t tell me. I told her I had been a barista and worked in service and that’s just not how you treat people. She apologized and I left, and her manager followed me to my truck, harassed my father and sister in law, frightened my niece, who is only 3 months old. She then saw me walking across the street and was screaming at me in front of the whole town telling me I wasn’t allowed in her store any more. I work in customer service and know how to be respectful to every type of person, even on a bad day. I am no longer allowed to get coffee here ever again because I stood up for myself. Nobody should be profiled and then get yelled at about it. Not like I would anyway, because overall the coffee is way below average.
