What a cool old hotel. The ambiance is fantastic and the beds were comfortable. It is located in the college hubbub, so dont forget your earplugs.The only negative was the shower. The water went hot cold hot cold for the whole time.

I had better showers at boy scout camp. The water randomly swung between scalding hot and freezing cold to the point where it was unusable. Apparently there was nothing maintenance could do, nor were there other rooms. I get things happen, but they didn’t even offer a drink voucher at the hotel bar! For $1000+ for 3 nights, truly the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Fun, quirky, hip place to stay. It’s a refurbished old hotel which makes it super charming but means the rooms are a bit small. Furnishings are unique and thoughtful. Located close to campus and activities.

I’ve stayed at a few Graduate Hotels at many campuses; Graduate Berkeley is by far a quality spot! Service is great! Room is equipped. Space is clean! There’s a coffee shot right next to the hotel (super convenient).

Didnt stay. Saw the room. Is what its supposed to be. Did not take advantage of any amenities. I did notice There was no bathroom vent fan, and separate toilet and shower rooms adjacent to each other.Seemed that in certain circumstances, it could become a humid stinkbox. Didnt check if the window opened. South facing window, of city walls and roofs.Theres a Stanford U logo in the urinal for Berkeley Alums to piss on. Basically a microcosm of the greater area vibe.We include, but secretly piss on you. 😆

This is a fairly decent hotel with lots of nice restaurants and plenty to see. Its very retro and there are things to pay attention for. Other than that, my four days in Berkley was nice.

Great location and friendly staff, but this hotel is a dump. Have the expectation of a one or two star hotel at best and you’ll be fine.Very rundown and there is a stale odour that permeates the hotel as mentioned in other reviews.Stayed in room 419. The floor was dirty, the window would not close, and the door seemed as if had been recently kicked in.Multiple cigarette? burns on the desk and the bathroom shower temperature was uncontrollable.Enjoy your stay!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. It was our 10 year anniversary and they gave us a little treat in our room which was very cool. Its a great location right in-between Telegraph and the Greek and having a place to park is super convenient. We already booked our next night for another concert at the Greek in a few months!

The rooms were clean, spacious and conformable. Service was good. My only gripe was the shower - they had antiquated 2 tap mixer where it was difficult to get the temperature right, and the water would fluctuate between too hot to cold even 10 minutes into the shower.

I stayed a week here for a business trip. The service is nice and the lobby is quite spacious. The location is very convenient, close to campus and lots of food options. The room is quite outdated though and the bathroom is extremely small and uncomfortable. But given the location and price, it is still worth staying.

I recently had a great stay at Graduate Berkeley, formerly known as Hotel Durant, thanks in no small part to the exceptional employees who made my experience truly memorable. I first stayed here in 2009 and have enjoyed every stay since. The two employees at the breakfast place were awesome - they listened to all of my requests and the chefs cooking was fantastic, especially the freshly baked bread. The receptionists were also very helpful, quickly sending room service that was pending for a day or so.While I love the ambience of this hotel, with its old classical touch, I must say that the price is a bit high. Additionally, there were a few minor issues with the room, such as the noise in the lobby of my floor, which could be heard in the room at times, and the bathrooms lack of ventilation, which made it quite stuffy after a shower. However, the staffs dedication to providing excellent customer service more than made up for these issues. Although there were some areas for improvement, like the need for more regular room service, my experience was overwhelmingly positive. I highly recommend Graduate Berkeley for anyone looking for a great stay in Berkeley with delicious breakfast and exceptional employees.

She was the first person I interacted w/ upon arrival and she made sure I was taken care of during my stay for the week while multitasking her other duties. Location is great but the service was pretty shocking. We had ordered a connecting room due to a baby and toddler in our party and we had called a few times to confirm that room is where we would be placed and the front desk ended up giving that room away. They were terrible at trying to find a solution and then just ignored it all together. Definitely wont be back.

I was about to book a room when i checked for hidden charges and...oh yeah--(hidden) amenity fee $25/day for in-room coffee, internet and bike rental...use to be called resort fee but it got a bad repudiation so its been repurposed as amenity fee. lost my business-- i am going to the Shattuck Plaza!

I have spent countless nights at this hotel. The location is perfect. Walking distance to UCB and many restaurants. A parking garage near by as well. The hotel is converted by an old building that has no insulation between floors and maybe not inside the walls as well. I can hear my neighbors’ phone conversations word by word. And occasionally snoring as well.

I expected more out of it. Meets needs for one-night stay but still lacking. Pros are that the check-in was easy and went well, there is a small fridge in the room with 2 cans of water, area is walkable with lots of restaurant options, and beds are comfortable.Our experience took a nose dive as soon as we stepped out of the elevator onto the 5th floor - there was a bad smell, kind of sour. And it persisted through our walk to our room so it seems like its not an easy fix. Smell went away in the room when we aired it out but we couldnt keep the window open over night because it would be too cold. Im thinking its the carpet because theres wood flooring in the room and it did not smell as bad in the room.The hotel is nearby the campus and student housing, we were woken up by outside noise 1-2am - someone shouting then not too long after a car alarm went off.I dont know how this place is considered 4 stars, its so basic it could pass for a hostel if not for the cost - no ice, no snacks, and no room service. Parking is included but they share with AirGarage and not enough for the hotel as is. Bathroom needs an update and smell needs to get addressed, whatever it is. We let the front desk know and they thanked us for the feedback.

I will not be back here. The room itself was small but decent enough. There was no peloton in the gym as advertised. I have been trying now for one month after my stay to get a copy of my receipt, and the staff has been incredibly unhelpful. I’ve called the front desk multiple times, put in an automated request to get my receipt, and no one has helped me. I suspect that this is not the fault of any individual staff but terrible corporate policies. Would not recommend.

If this represents a 4 star hotel in this area then I can’t imagine what any others are like. Tiny and not great room. No sink in the bathroom. Need to have security let you out and walk you to the car because the crime is that bad. Car got smashed and grabbed just down the street. Not sure who would let their kids go to school in an area like this. Ridiculous.

This is a fantastic niche hotel in Berkeley, and provided comfortable accommodations for a several night stay. My room (324) had a suspicious red stain on the carpet outside the room, and the bathroom in the room had seen some better days, with a rusted out towel bar and some general maintenance required. The room service did a fantastic job cleaning my room while I was at work, and were very appreciated.The one star demerit, we were told parking in the hotel lot wouldn’t be an issue during our stay, but on Wednesday night there were signs up in the lot notifying us that the lots would be unavailable Thursday night, which made things inconvenient for no real good reason. I will be planning to stay again on my next trip out. Great staff.

This is the worst experience I have ever had checking into a hotel. Its one thing for employees to be poorly trained but entirely unacceptable to have employees that lie to customers. I chose this hotel for its proximity to The Greek Theater. My kids had tickets to see Louis Tomlinson in concert, and this is within walking distance. We made a reservation about a month in advance online. I was happy to see for a small fee they offered early check-in at 1pm. That way we could get ready in the room before the concert. I even called that morning before we left home to confirm our early check-in and was told our room was ready. After driving over 3 hours, we got there at exactly 1pm. I was told by the front desk employee that our room was not ready and was being cleaned but would only be a few minutes even though I had already been told that morning everything was ready. 30 minutes go by then we are told all the housekeeping staff are in a meeting and there is no one to get our ready until 4pm. This is unacceptable. I not only paid for early check-in but confirmed it that morning. While we were waiting in the lobby, 3 different guests said they called minutes before and were able to get ealry check in. I go back up to ask how everyone else is checking in early, but not us. I was told we had a more expensive room, and apparently, the hotel assigns you a specific room ahead of time and wont get you a different one. So, at this point, we have been lied to 3 different times. After an hour of waiting, I finally asked for her to speak with her manager to get us checked in. Like magic, my room is suddenly ready. The room had not been properly cleaned. There was pee on the toilet seat, and the floors were dirty. There was also what looked like old blood stains on the duve cover. We wont be staying here again. Also, if you use Apple Pay on their website, you will also have to wait to speak with someone to get your reservation approved.

I have stayed here on multiple occasions and with multiple people, for a total of about just under one month at this hotel.- no pool, no laundry, no microwaves- air conditioning/heater is good- fridges in rooms are tiny- parking EXTREMELY limited and brings additional costs (parking is also often closed for special events)- TV’s dont have streaming services nor can they do remote play- staff are very nice. sometimes they will microwave your food, fill up your water bottle, or give you utensils/cutlery, but it depends on who is out on rotation.- no complimentary/in-hotel breakfast. the only hotel restaurant is Henry’s, which is not very good- has a gym- very close to campus if you want to commute thereYou dont stay in this hotel for vacation or luxury. You stay because you have no other option.

We had our rehearsal dinner here and highly recommend The Graduate for your wedding needs (hotel rooms, wedding, rehearsal dinner). We first worked with Maria S and then also Olga who were fantastic at helping us plan and book our rooms and food/drinks order, and the night of James our server was just about one of the best people! Incredibly personable and took care of our every need from start to end, always with a smile. He even set aside some food for my sister who was checking into the hotel later and missed the dinner, because of her delayed flight. Adrianna was also really sweet and helped us during our food tasting and the night of. The food here is also incredible. We asked for a tasting just to make sure we would be happy, and were blown away by the Chef, and all our guests said they enjoyed the food. I just wish we had hosted our entire wedding here not just the rehearsal dinner (lesson learned!). They were my favorite group of vendors to work with! Highly recommend!

The hotel is old and smells. Rooms are old and walls are paper thin. Bathroom was a mess. Toilet handle broken. The soap dispenser bottles in shower were nasty covered with old brown stuck soap. The worst part was that college kids rented a room next door and partied till 330a. Staff did nothing about it. This place is what it is... an old dorm room. Dont expect anything more.

Dirty shampoo dispensers. I’m sorry I didn’t bring slippers or flip flops as I feel like the floors were dirty. For the daily price over thanksgiving weekend, I could’ve stayed at a chain and gotten the cleanliness I expected. Not to mention the size of the room (very small) and the armoire. Perfect if your height is less than 5 feet tall.

I didn’t particularly enjoy my stay here. Primarily because the staff was not accommodating or helpful, and had a college student who didn’t care attitude. The hotel otherwise was fine. Beds were fine. Decor was a bit worn and water pressure low. We were provided with one set of coffee in our room and it was not refilled for the second day of our stay.

Ive stayed in this hotel 3 times now for work purposes. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. Lovely rooms with extremely comfortable beds and stylish decor. Everything you need from an amenities point of view - the toiletries are particularly nice. However, if you are troubled by noise I really dont recommend it. Wooden floors mean you can hear every step and every conversation from the room above you. The doors to the rooms are terribly insulated and slam so whenever someone else leaves or enters their room its very loud. The bar downstairs (Henrys) is very nice, but under new management they have now decided to shut it at 10. So as a guest you now cant get any food or drink beyond 10pm - very disappointing. As I say, a mixed review!

Historical building flair with mid century modern decor to match. A beautiful hotel. It has a great vibe! Good music in the lobby, great customer service (we were given a complimentary bottle of wine for our anniversary!), and the bar was lively all weekend. Ive seen negative comments about noise and being on the college strip. But if you come with the expectation for a retro college experience, this hotel will not disappoint. Durant AVE was fun and there are TONS of great food choices within walking distance from the hotel. We came for a concert at Berkeley Greek Theatre, and our 6 year anniversary. It was the perfect weekend! I checked in with my boyfriend and checked out with my fiancé hehe 💍 Perfect place for a private proposal.

Im currently sitting in room 625 and theres a loud ticking noise behind the wall every 5 seconds. This is in addition to a periodic thumping pipe noise that pops up every minute or so. Needless to say it was hard to sleep in this room. I can only turn the fan on if the overhead light is also on so thats fun. Combined with small room size and things only being half renovated this hotel is not worth your time. Luckily the location is decent and the first floor is charming.

This is the worst “4 star” hotel I have ever stayed in. After spending $200 a night I did not expect dirty sheets, an abundance of random hairs, dusty furniture, paper thin walls, bad customer service and a shower that just barely mists you with water. After a long day of traveling and touring Berkeley we came back to our hotel only to find an abundance of random black hairs in our bed. The bed sheets also had serval rips and stains on them. After complaining to the front desk and asking for our sheets to be changed, an individual delivered a pile of miscellaneous sheets to our room. If you think we know how to sandwich a duvet insert between two flat sheets and create all these crazy folds and tucks, you’re wrong.After sleeping on a half made dirty bed, we were awoken at 8am by the shrieks and giggles of the 4 girls occupying the room next door. It felt like our rooms were separated by a curtain.We then left early in the morning and asked that our room be turned over and our bed be made and upon returning at 3pm our room was untouched..The other minor inconveniences consist of the hotel smelling like 1000 year old crusty musty books, dusty furniture and floors, a shower that is really outdated and has no pressure, windows that don’t close properly and just a generally extremely outdated hotel.Don’t waste your money. Stay anywhere else.

Ive loved this hotel for years, way back to its days as Hotel Durant when I was an undergrad. Unfortunately, the management change over to the Graduate has resulted in terrible service and experience. Back in November, after a truly awful stay, I wrote an email to management with feedback hoping to stay out of Google reviews. Unfortunately, no one decided to even entertain me with a response. I couldve paid $100 more to stay at the Claremont. As other reviews noted, if you are expecting a 2 star hotel at 4-5 star prices, I guess the Graduate is for you. Makes me sad because it has so much history and such a wonderful location. Also be weary of going to Henrys during Game Day.... we saw several people get crushed in the doorway to the back patio due to terrible security and crowd management. In my 15 years of going to Big Games, Ive never seen it like that.

We had an excellent stay! The staff are incredible and the rooms are comfy. Theres a specific quirky aspect to this that really makes it charming. The hotel has a college theme that helps it stand out and makes what would be an average hotel stay into an experience. My only regret is I couldnt stay another night!

Its an old hotel, so understand that and youll be golden. The building is creaky, the rooms are small, the elevator is slow, and there are fewer outlets that were used to. And I love it! The staff are all so kind and inviting and if in case you need something to read they have a National Geographics collection that tips the scale at 8k+ issues. Super cute, would definitely return!

Well, long story short. They had me called them multiple times for just a very simple tasks and they couldnt get it resolved. Cmon were not living in 90s we arent using dial up to send emails, what I hate the most is wasting my time, time is very valuable for me. So please get it together and provide a better customer service if Graduate Hotels keep doing this we will never book a hotel here ever again.

Good staff service. Very clean and well-appointed. Great location.The sleep experience was awful. For the two nights we were there, we had a neighbor that *slammed* the door regularly during the night and morning. The staff acted as they knew about it- told us the person had been moved to that room from another room. They couldnt make it stop- ultimately making me regret having stayed there.

This is an older hotel with a fresh coat of paint. There is 1 elevator in the building so plan accordingly because you will wait there every morning to get downstairs. The bathroom was smaller than I could have imagined and the sink was so small I struggled to wash my hands without soaking my shirt/pants. If you’re visiting the campus and not looking to spend much time in the hotel room, this place is perfect! However, if you are looking for a getaway, I would not recommend.

This was the second hotel in this chain Ive stayed at. They are setup to be reminiscent of college dorms. The public space was nice. The breakfast at the lobby bar was much better than I expected.The rooms have been updated but are definitely older feeling. Worn wood trim, classic door knobs, steam radiators. The rooms are also fairly small but that may be common to Berkeley, CA.The walls are not very well sound proofed. I could hear my neighbor dictating the next great American novel at 6:00am. Also, the bathroom exhaust fan is non-existent. It is just a vent that opens to the neighboring bathroom.

This is not a 4 star hotel. This is at best a 2 star hotel. We planned to stay 3 nights and barely stayed one night. I very, very rarely write reviews, I also have never complained to hotel management, and I have never cancelled any part of my stay at a hotel. This place offered an exceptionally poor sleeping experience for us. A positive thing I can say is that because I booked via the hotel website it was easy for them to make cancellations and even though at the time of check-out there was no reduction in my costs, after I filled out their post check out survey they did comp my $35 parking fee and discount my room by 20%. I am appreciative of that acknowledgement of my bad experience.The Graduate has a very cute and artistic environment. Our room was a Bayside King which I learned doesnt mean it has a view but it is a bit bigger than other rooms. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.We made our reservation through their website and our check-in went smoothly. That first night was great until the ladies in the room adjacent to ours returned to their room. That is when we learned the walls/ceilings are paper thin. The neighbors werent being loud, they were just having conversation.Unfortunately the front desks phone didnt work so at 1 am I went down and cancelled the next two nights of our stay. The staff was very polite and offered another, smaller room but by that point it was obvious to us that all rooms would have the same issues.The neighbors quieted down when asked; however, we slept terribly the rest of the night due to the noise of the hotel. The doors dont close they slam shut. We found that it was actually hard to quietly close our door.In the morning when we woke up we were exhausted simply because we could hear everything in the hotel all night long. Earplugs were no help. We were zombies the next day.Another aspect of this was that our room was 2nd floor street side and the room had a portable AC unit. While the room had double windows (literally set of two windows so you would open the first one then the second one to let air in), the portable AC unit requires an exhaust that is inserted into the window, thus as far as noise is concerned a window is essentially always open in the room. Being a block from the UC Berkeley campus there are people walking the street all night.If you are not a heavy sleeper I highly suggest you stay elsewhere. We moved to the Hotel Shattuck and for the same price we had an excellent experience there.

There is a complete lack of customer service. A few days ago I made a reservation for 2 rooms ($500/night), for a week, a year from now over the phone. I was told that my card would be charged immediately for one night for each room, and the rest would be charged 30 days ahead of time which was the last day to cancel. Instead, my card was charged the full $7000 right away. Theres no excuse for them to hold $7000 of my money for a year when the reservation is still cancel-able for the next 11 months. I called this afternoon (and waited FIFTEEN minutes to talk to someone), and the woman said she was seeing the SAME THING I had been told before, and would bump it up the chain to get the other nights taken off my card. Instead, tonight someone called me back and said that I was given the wrong information TWICE (really?), and that they would hold my $7000 for a full year before I came. She had ZERO interest in understanding my argument. I have NEVER had another hotel do this before the cancellation date. So, heres what I think of the Graduate: 1) most expensive place in Berkeley, 2) you get conflicting information repeatedly, 3) even paying $500/night, you have to wait on hold for 15 minutes to talk to someone or wait hours for someone to call you back, 4) their attitude is tough luck - well do what we want with no intention of trying to listen to you. Does this sound like somewhere I really want to stay? Do you?It looks like they respond to reviews - so Ill put this question here for the eventual reply: if I can get ALL my money back 11 months from now, WHAT is the justification for the hotel to hold $7000 from now until then? Whats their motive? Holding the money offers them NO protection against me cancelling more than 30 days in advance, and I doubt theyll give me interest on that money.

The young man that helped us at the front desk Friday offered exceptional customer service. All the staff were super sweet. We had a great experience and would say it’s a great location and a great hotel. Be sure to book one of the larger rooms because there are tiny suites, thankfully they were so accommodating and moved us. A warm gesture being that it was my husbands birthday vacation.☺️

A very very old hotel. The smallest bathrooms I have ever had the displeasure of using. The bathrooms are in a badvstate of disrepair. The shower in the bath is terrible, the water fluctuates between scolding hot and ice cold. The corridors smell musty. The green walls are horrible.

I travel for a living to a different city week to week, so I have seen more than a fair share of hotels. Th Graduate is one of the very best! As far as themed hotels go, this place nailed it. The rooms are styled as dorms. The information booklet is a marble notebook. The lamp is a bong. The restaurant attached to the hotel is great. Its open late and has a delicious selection of food and drinks. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast on weekdays when the restaurant isnt open - fresh coffee and pastries. The stack is friendly, professional and accommodating. My only complaint is a minor one: the floors/ceilings are thin. We had a family above our room with small children that sounded like a herd of buffalo. We called the desk and the following day, while we were gone, they moved our belongings for us to a different room.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I emailed in early June to cancel a July reservation (just out of courtesy really- I was not expecting a refund and did not ask for one, but thought if I formally cancelled they could rebook the room). About two weeks went by and I didnt get any response so I sent a follow-up. Two more weeks go by and no response.I decided to call then because my reservation was quickly approaching. I was told no one got the emails and the reservation could no be located because the system was down. They told me it was imperative that I call back tomorrow. When I called back the front deck manager Fabio asked that I, not call, but email him. This was different info then Id been getting but I did it.Five days went by with no response. At this point I was actively getting texts from the Graduate asking me about check-in. When I tried to call once more to see if my email had been received because no one ever responded Fabio told me I needed to call again tomorrow and send an email and then my reservation would be cancelled. Gorgeous hotel right next to UC Berkeley, this place has lovely decor and atmosphere! Our hotel room was not only spacious and comfortable, but it also had some Woodstock themed photographs and light fixtures, and a beautiful tapestry chair that appeals to the hippie within. Hotel staff here is caring and personable, with great attitudes and a true desire to please their guests. I really enjoyed our stay here, and although we have no students that attend UC Berkeley, I most definitely look forward to visiting again in the near future.

There are a lot of restaurants and shops in the area but they all close early (at least earlier than Im used to). The only places to eat after 9pm were pizza and take out spots. Maybe its different during the school year. Theres a nice common area in the lobby to sit and read/work or talk with friends. The free WiFi was a little slow but not too bad. The outside temperatures at the beginning of my 11 day stay were such that the room temperature was in the high 70s. AC was a portable unit and staff warned me not to try it at night because was so noisy. Correct. Then the outside cooled into the 40s and 50s and there was NO HEAT during the day, because the small ineffective radiator system is in sleep mode. Staff acted as if this were normal for $200/night. Room was uninhabitable for most of the time, so I stayed away. Walls are so thin, every word in nearby rooms is audible. Bathroom tiny and old. Housekeeping erratic, friendly, but sometimes washcloth, sometimes not; they are overworked. The week before was Dreamforce and the room I had went for nearly $500/night. Clearly they are exploiting the lack of acceptable hotel rooms in the area. No room service, no breakfast weekdays in restaurant. Over a mile from BART.

The territorial view of the Berkeley campus along with the close proximity to it made it a wonderful place to spend a weekend visiting the college. There is endless food within walking distance. The rooms are a bit small, but not uncomfortably so. Decor is nice and speaks much towards the college atmosphere. It was close to where my brother lives. A 5 min walk and we easily had food and shopping at our fingertips.But all the possible positive remarks I could make only apply to the location and the convenience.The room was neat. Towels very scratchy and unpleasant.Worst thing really, and this was the most important deciding factor in room selection was the couch being a pull out bed for our 5 year old, the pull out couch was by far the most horrible thing weve ever had the displeasure to sit on.We wouldnt use it, wouldnt make our daughter and we wouldnt even make an animal use that pull out.So we all had to cram on the bed. Which was exactly what we were trying to avoid!The wall allows you to hear in intimate detail, exactly what is going on in adjacent room and the vent in the bathroom was basically an amplifying microphone. Let me start by saying that this hotel is good for the area and if youre specifically visiting to go to a Berkeley University event. It is really close to campus and has plenty of dining options around.Rooms unfortunately arent the best for a hotel at this price point. Bathrooms are tiny, very dated and water is always fluctuating in pressure and temperature (Sometimes it gets really hot and back to cold within seconds). Also walls are very thin so get used to hearing screams, knocks, bangs and the such.Beds are very comfortable, with 4 pillows each and soft covers.Rooms are very old looking, the AC unit is super loud and is not central so it blows directly on the bed. Theres no breakfast provided, but theres a Tartine cafe on the first floor where you can grab some breakfast for about $20 each.The lobby area has plenty of space to sit and work, theres water provided and free WiFi.I think this hotel is way too expensive for the experience. One of the nights we stayed we didnt get any housekeeping service so when we came back to the room the beds werent made and we didnt have clean towels. The gym is tiny and outdated except for the Peloton cycle.Staff are courteous but dont do their job well. You call front desk and they dont answer, you tell their Roxy machine to have them call you and you never get a call, and even the day we didnt get housekeeping service, we requested it downstairs and it never came.All in all, if you MUST stay here, youll be fine. But if you dont have to, or can find better options in downtown Berkeley, Id advice you do so.

I booked online at what I thought was the Graduate website, as I only book directly through hotel sites. Upon checkin, they insisted on charging me again. When I spoke to Andrea, who was not kind and seemed annoyed by my questions, she did tell me that parking would be comped and that she believed I ended up using a 3rd party website. When we arrived to park, I was told by Andrea that the parking lot might be filled and we could park at a local garage. After checking out this morning, I noticed a third charge from the hotel yesterday bringing the total charges currently on my card to $1426.71 for two nights in a standard queen room. To summarize, the location and history of the hotel does not justify the over-price and its lack of updated rooms and bathrooms. This hotel has a lot of rich history compared to the other simple hotels people usually chooses like “Double Tree, or Holiday Inn”. The overall room and lobby design gives a very retro feeling. However, I just wanna point out that if having a good shower or big bathroom is a must have this hotel kind of lacks it. The shower head pumps out really really little water and the sink is so small that all you can do there is just to wash your hands. Not recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing hot shower after a long day cause the Graduate Berkeley is in need of an update in that apartment. Quaint Hotel, Inconsistent ServiceHotel Durant is sort of a hit and miss.We stayed for two weeks. On some days, we would get good service while on others, it would be and thoroughly awful. For the bad days, the toilet bowl would be left dirty, bathtub not cleaned, place not vacuumed, trash bin not cleared or lined.After two complaints, the room service we got started getting more professional.What I thought could be better was how the management dealt with issues. On one day, I sent an email complimenting a housekeeping staff. I received a reply in the same day acknowledging that. Two days later, I sent the first complaint email. No acknowledgement and no action. Another few days later, the room was left in an unacceptable state and I emailed them again. This time, they sent a member of the housekeeping team to ask me if things are ok. I had cleaned the room myself then so my answer was yes. But until now, no response from Hotel Durant acknowledging the emails at all. Strange.For those sensitive to noise, the walls are quite thin. We are more resilient to sounds so that wasnt our biggest issue.On a more positive note, the hotel is very near to UC Berkeley, and some good eateries.The hotel is styled in a preppy manner. Pros: Pet Friendly, Great Location, clean and comfortable, DoorDash for late night sushi delivered until 3am! Cons: Thin walls, hotel parking is optional but extra, room configuration makes it feel smaller than it has to be. John works evenings at the front desk and is an amazing host, he made our stay an experience above and beyond what I had expected. We traveled up with both our dogs, which is a main reason for selecting Graduate Berkeley as they do not charge exorbitant fees for pets. Not only is the hotel pet friendly, they gave our pups their very own college themed BarkBox complete with treats and themed toys matching the hotel. A large squeaky #2 pencil and an apple which hides treats while squeaking! Even the once or twice we left them alone in the room for 15-30 mins and they barked at all (sorry neighbors) John called to let us know while being very sweet and professional about everything. Overall, I did enjoy our stay. The hotel is more of a throw back to the Berkeley college dorm days (hallway sounds, intentional wear and theme decor included) I found it comfortable and secure which is most important for us. We will stay again, hopefully with a more quiet pup next visit.

The room they gave us was a closet in relation to the photos on their website - absolutely no resemblance whatsoever! In addition, the bed was SEVERELY bowed and beaten down in the center. We just returned from our stay at this hip yet old fashion establishment. The music theme was cool as we were staying for a concert at the near by Greek Theater. Front desk was helpful, mentioned parking options, and provided free music poster of the band we were seeing that night. The corner room is a must reserve, spacious with two double beds and a view of San Francisco. Henrys downstairs had great food and drinks to order and even delivers to rooms until 10 pm. We took a cab to the Greek for $5.40 (uphill) and walked back afterwards (downhill). Both were pleasant, manageable options. Surrounded by UC Berkeley campus with dorms and frats nearby/next doot, so be mindful if noise or college crowds would bother you. Walked to Telegraph for pizza around midnight and almost every food establishment was still open. Great experience, well be back!

As part of their grand opening, I got the opportunity to take a tour of the suites on the 6th floor. The renovations are beautiful with the hardwood flooring and upgraded ductless HVAC systems. The double-paned windows provide a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Durant Street below. The decor is eclectic with a mixture of modern and art-deco influences. The bright green hallways really make the space feel larger.

Graduate Berkeley is a wonderfully retro hotel located adjacent to the UC Berkeley campus. The staff at check-in were extremely efficient and pleasant. The lobby’s decor has clever mid-century design details, including the spines of 6,000 National Geographic magazines (in the same Pantone yellow shade as UCB’s colors) and a welcoming reception area. The fitness room features a wall size portrait of a Golden Bears player in bobble head form (see pictures). Someone with great design and decorating sense worked to remodel this facility. The hallways are painted in stately green and sky blue, and my room has cool mid-century details and artwork evoking college life in Berkeley’s past. I will be seeking out the Graduate chain hotels in future just to see what they’ve done with the decor. The throwback aesthetic is complemented by modern amenities like great flat screen TVs and and modern fixtures in the shower and bathroom. The bed is very comfortable and the the linens are Egyptian cotton. Here on business, but I’ll be back with my family!

The hotel is old, outdated, and not very clean. What is claimed on the web page to be a 24-hour fitness center is a tiny windowless room with one elliptical, one treadmill, one bicycle, and the treadmill had lost a foot and needed fixing (by me) to work. The internet was not set up to work correctly with standard software such as thunderbird. The room is tiny, extremely noisy (from people walking above and talking next door) and the bathroom very outdated (and tiny, too). When I checked out, I was told everything was settled but subsequently $10 were charged to my credit card (for what?). When I called the phone number given on the web page to complain about these charges, the call was cut immediately. Never again!

Ive stayed at this hotel many times over the past few years, so I can confidently say that I highly recommend this whimsical place! Central and safe location, down to earth and friendly staff, and best of all, Henrys Gastropub! (Definitely recommend their many beers on tap and angry mac & cheese, which you can adjust to slighlty perturbed or even a happy mac, oh and their breakfast/brunch is also amazing on the weekends). I usually go there for the Greek concerts or football games, which they are just walking distance from. Some rooms are on the cozy side, and there is a high-end college dorm room vibe in all, well they are just one block from campus, but in a fun and playful way (i.e. bong-shaped lamps, composition book style guest directory, work desks that say stolen from the Anthropology Dept.). The Executive Graduate Floor Lounge offers free continental breakfast, wine & chees and snacks, if you are staying on that exclusive floor. Ive never ever had a bad experience here!

The waiter could not speak English, not even a little, and when the breakfasts arrived, he had to show them to us, one by one, because he did not know the English for the variety of foods.
