I tried German Auto Sport for the first time when my Volkswagen Jetta wouldn’t start. It needed a new alternator, battery, and the diesel particulate filter had failed. The total quote was way over my budget. These guys repaired the alternator and worked for several days trying every known low cost fix to clear the filter. When efforts weren’t successful, they recommended checking with the dealer for possible extended warranty options and repair cost before moving forward. Thank you German Auto for acting with so much integrity. I’ll definitely be back for service in future.

First-time customer. Pleased at the service for my 2023 Audi A4 which only required a basic 30 K oil change. Chris was great to deal with and they even provided some additional details of their inspection (both photographs and videos) of a few maintenance items to look for. A true gem! Chris and Alex were amazing. From the beginning of our service to the end, the environment was super friendly and welcoming. All service details were explained in complete detail and in a timely manner. The attention to detail and customer focus on service details, has hands down made the decision to have GAS become our premium service shop an easy one! This shop operates with integrity, customer service as the primary focus and that shows from Chris all the way through whole team. With the detailed inspection from GAS I was able to take that back to my dealership and utilize our warranty to have some repairs covered at no cost to us. Trust me you will not be disappointed!

We were recomended to GAS from a friend and we are so grateful we were. We took our car there after another mechanic mentioned a lot of items needed that was very very expensive. We took it to GAS for a second opinion. Not only did they find some of what was asked was not needed they found a couple other small items that were going to fail soon and pointed them out. They communicated well, explained things well without trying to make you feel dumb, and were very nice which says a lot because most of the time when dealing with cars the stereotypes ring true. We are very happy (so far) with the work and we also appreciate they warranty their work. Highly recommended.

Very odd experience.Pros: super easy to book online; and I like that they provide free lyfts/ubersCons: had a family friend (who is also a master technician) review the diagnosis and ask followup questions. When our friend called, Chris wouldnt have a discussion and then refused to continue working on our car. This family friend is from out of town and was our way of trying to assess what was mandatory since we really didnt want to drop $4k.So not sure what happened here, but figured Id flag the facts for others for them to make their own decision.No hard feelings; left more confused than anything else...Edit after owners response: I didnt ask to replace a single spark plug; that would only be part of the diagnosis (and not recommended by me, but by another master technician). The owner wouldnt explain his diagnostic approach to our family friend; and wouldnt even have a conversation. This is a classic nice guy vibe kinda place that has no problem charging you $1000 dollars more than any other shop. The quoted me on two different repairs that were $1000 cheaper at three different reputable places in the area. When I questioned them, they admitted they overcharged me $1000 but will only give me $500 back if I take down my bad review.If you have a plethora of money and don’t mind spending about an extra 1k for repairs this is a great convenient place to go. I am a nurse with integrity, something they are lacking. So here is my mediocre review. Accountability is important.

Justin assisted with repairs on an older BMW with high mileage. Though spending money on car repairs is never fun, Justin and the team at German Auto Sport had great communication and provided a thorough breakdown of what the car needed and why. The use of technology with pictures further made me feel confident that all recommendations were warranted and I wasn’t being gouged for money. I own 2 BMWs and besides the dealership this is the only establishment I would feel comfortable taking my vehicle to.

I had a problem with my car key/remote. Alex instructed me on how to use the blade on my remote. This would open my car door. I had a problem getting it to work, so Alex said I can come to the shop and he will help me. I also asked him to check my oil level. They did and in fact, they changed my oil without making an appointment. I appreciate their great customer service.

I recently got a gently used but poorly maintained 2005 Boxster and I was looking for a shop who could competently go through everything and get the car into top shape. Jonathan and the guys at GAS were exactly the gear heads I was looking for. Beyond experienced with these cars, patient and very sensible. They understood my concerns and made sure I got the car back in the shape I was hoping. Im thrilled with the state of the car now... it feels new! I’m so happy I found German auto sport!When they did the first overhaul inspection of my car, they found several big problems that they recommended I try to get fixed under an extended warranty with my dealership. I didn’t even know I still had any warranty. So I took my car in with the meticulous paperwork and pictures from German auto spot and my dealership got on it like I’ve never witnessed before. It was my first time taking my car for service to German Auto Sport. I typically take my car to the Dealer for service but recently heard a loud noise while parking after a 50 minute freeway drive. The team at German Auto Sport was friendly, professional, punctual, and did a very thorough inspection and service on my vehicle. The most professional mechanics that I’ve worked with. This shop is a little pricey, but they have excellent customer service and are experts at repairs.During inspection, they take clear photos showing the problem, give you digestible descriptions of the issues, and are happy to answer questions. Very impressive experience from start to finish. A few months back, I was given an astronomical quote and a great deal of pressure at the BMW dealership in Berkeley. I have recently purchased a BMW and have had to get multiple repairs and German Auto Sport is who you want to trust with your german car. They know what they are talking about and share pictures of what is wrong with your car and what is the best procedure to go on from there. I just bought my 2011 Mini Cooper and the previous owner used this repair shop and it just made since to go with the shop that already knew the car. What a nice group of humans! I just got an oil change, and from my initial phone call from making the appointment to dropping off the car and picking up after the work was completed was the best experience Ive ever had at a auto repair spot. Unfortunately, Im moving out of state and they shared how to find a good mechanic in my new town. If I wasnt moving this crew would be my forever car repair peeps. UPDATE: I returned here to have my other car worked on, as I had such a positive experience with my MINI JCW. I was super excited that Chris told me they were willing to take on my Chrylser Crossfire SRT-6. This car is new to me. I purchsed it online. When it arrived, there was a check engine light, which is an automatic fail for smog. Oh Boy. I was sure I had been hosed and bought a lemon.This car gave the guys a run for their money (and time). Still, although Chris and Alex could not get much help from Chrysler OR Mercedes, they stuck with it. I really dont believe other shops would have spent the amount of time and brain power on my new baby. Now, it is rolling like the sweet babe she is, and with shiny new plates :)I am lucky to have found GAS and will always bring my vehicles here. I completely agree with other on these reviews with regard to the passion Chris has for automobiles. I cant wait to join them at the track one day!This was my first post:This was my first time at GAS. My MINI Cooper S JCW (that is out of warranty) told me it needed brake pads. My warning light is gone and my calipers are all shiny :)I cant speak to cost or quality of work because I have no way to compare cost and cant see the work that was done. AFTER HAVING DRIVEN IT A WHILE NOW, I really feel the differnece in the braking. I was really looking forward to taking my car to this shop. I dropped my vehicle off for an oil change and to diagnose a rattling noise coming from the passenger rear wheel area. Upon pickup I paid and was handed the keys with no explanation of the rattling until I asked. Chris mentioned it was the gas tank moving around so they shimmed it with some rubber to tighten it up and the noise had mostly gone away. I confirmed with him that it was nothing suspension related and I was safe to drive. Driving the car away the noise was exactly the same. I called twice asking to speak to Chris but was never able to get ahold of him or receive a call back. I emailed and never received a response. I was also told I would get a digital inspection report via text but never received that. Over the weekend I jacked up the car and crawled under it and could clearly see the rear trailing arm bushing was failing and when rocking the wheel it made the exact noise. Just a bummer all around. Two stars for what likely is a successful oil change.

These guys are the guys to go to. Ive been taking my here for a while now and i live in Antioch. Thats how far im willing to go to have my car serviced by these guys. This isnt a shop that its sole purpose is to make money off people. These are genuine car enthusiasts. Brilliant customer service from the guy at the counter to the mechanics. Also, dont be afraid to use particular car lingo like E36 or RTAB or Guibo. Also dont be afraid to bring your modified cars. Like i said before they are true BMW enthusiasts so they have been there and done that.

Three folks you dont want cheap are sushi chefs, tattoo artists and car mechanics. The work I get done at German Auto is no exception - pricey, but worth every cent. The attention to detail and shop integrity is top notch. Could I get a better deal on broadway auto row? Sure. Would my vehicle run problem free for the next four years? Probably not. This auto shop and all of the guys who work there are ABSOLUTE GEMS! Never have I ever experienced such professional, kind and honest people at an auto repair shop. The trepidation I usually feel as a woman when I have to visit a mechanic evaporated immediately upon speaking with their team about my car. They are incredibly knowledgeable about German made cars, and their thorough inspection of my vehicle completely debunked what I feared was happening. I usually dont write reviews and Im not easily impressed. As a matter of fact, I generally dont trust anyone else to work on my cars. Long story short, I paid for a vehicle inspection on a car I had planned on purchasing (Im out of state, sight unseen) and German Autosport knocked it out of the park. The report was very detailed and included pictures. The report uncovered thousands of dollars in needed repairs that I wouldve otherwise not known about until I received the car. Its been a very long time since I have been pleased with a service that Ive paid for. Been coming here since i had my mini and i always valued the customer service and skill craft, but this last time will be my last time; my Mini left worse then it came in with. Dropped Mini off at 8:30 on Friday for a diagnosis for a engine reduction, was recommended a engine flush and oil change, thats good but i couldnt get my car until tuesday, on top of the flush my rear left brake lamp was out and they changed the bulb but it didnt work, took it back in the following wednesday because i was having battery issues i never had before and the brake lamp was still out, i communicated that my battery was drained by the shop and not my own doing and was quoted for a new battery with labor, Since its not my fault i would expect at the labor to be waived and i just pay for the battery but that wasnt a option, and now instead of a broken brake lamp, my WHOLE lamp is out, im aware fixing minis arent cheap but i expect accountability from a shop that charges $200 for labor on a battery replacement and replace the socket back in tail lamp so it can be how it was when I came. But I do thank them for the hospitable attitude.

I’ve had a great experience with them as they have been very knowledgeable, patient, and kind towards me when discussing the car maintenance. They also send you an inspection report in a website link, with pictures, that you can view on your cellphone or computer which was very useful. I was able to go through all of the recommended repairs with the service tech and we actually talked for a long time discussing the details. I took an older Audi that Id just bought to German Auto Sport - it was in sort of mystery condition and I knew it needed a variety of repairs, I just wasnt sure exactly what. Ben took awesome care of me and my car, sending me multiple thorough estimates throughout the process and explaining to me in detail all the potential work and possible options. He was fantastic about keeping in touch both via email and phone. He even took the car to get smog certification as well! I cannot recommend German Auto Sport enough. I recently moved to the Bay Area and needed help with replacing my valve covers for my 2013 GLK 350 Mercedes. Alex and Chris went above and beyond to take care of me. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with German auto sport, after being a customer for more than 3 years. I got scammed. I brought in my car and they gave me a quotation of around 1400$ to fix my car. After leaving my car for more than 3 weeks, the issue was not resolved and then they provided a new quote for 5k, and that I have a mechanical issues with the carI took my car for a second option and they told me that the problem is not mechanical and they were able to fox it for only 150$German auto made my pay 1400$ to get my car and then I was supposed to talk with the owner to get a refund. But the owner always ignored my calls.**Thank you for you reply, it shows how unprofessional you are. and for the record I did not receive any discount and I was informed that you were in the office but not available to take my calls or call me back for more that 4-5 weeks. I have an E30 and am replacing the ball joints in my suspension. I called and asked the shop to press out the ball joints. I had already taken apart my suspension.The job is at most 30 minutes, and they told me they refused to do the work unless i put everything back together and drove the car to them, so they can take it apart again and charge me more money.As a fellow technician, this is appalling treatment. Obviously, considering recent previous reviews, customer service has gone way down hill at this shop and I recommend taking your car somewhere else.

This is the second time I used German Auto Sport for general services on my BMW 428i. I found Alex to be very professional, very attentive, and takes time to listen and follow up on request concerning the issues with the vehicle, even if they are minor. I noticed, however, on both occasions that whoever serviced the car did not check and correct the clock after the service completed as on both occasions, I had to readjust the time on the clock. A very minor oversight. I will certainly continue to use and recommend German Auto Sport to anyone looking for a good repair and maintenance shop.

This is my 3rd visit. My car was leaking coolant. They diagnosed it as the water pump that they previously replaced. They told me it was still under warranty. They could have lied and said anything. I wouldn’t know the difference. As a warranty repair they replaced faulty pump and only charged me the requisite hours for labor to diagnose root cause. This shop rocks! I will always take my German Autos here. I highly recommend them!

This is my new favorite auto shop that I will continue to bring my 2007 Porsche Cayman. I recently had trouble with my oil separator and they were more than happy to help me replace it. I was traveling to San Francisco when I noticed white smoke coming out from my exhaust so I pulled over and started to google nearby auto shops. This was the nearest and most highly rated one so I called them to ask if I could have my vehicle towed there. They normally close at 6pm but there were more than happy to wait a little longer while I had my car towed to their shop from the highway. When I arrived, they were helpful in getting my vehicle into the shop and getting me all setup and ready to get on my way. They are very responsive with their emails and were quick to send me a estimate on the genuine Porsche parts that were needed to fix my vehicle. I was in need of my vehicle for the weekend and normally they are closed on Saturdays, but they took time out of their weekend to come in so I could retrieve my car. The service is excellent and top quality! They know what theyre doing and talking about. I recommend this place to everyone with a foreign vehicle or to anyone that likes quality customer service and mechanics that are passionate about their job.They are going to be receiving my business from now on.

We were in the middle of a family emergency (imminent birth of first child) and our one car started hiccuping. I frantically called shops around the area capable of servicing an older-model 3-series (E90). Alex from German Auto Sport picked the phone and heroically re-giggered the teams schedule to save us. I had a coolant leak I knew this going in. They took two visits to come up with a diagnosis that didnt fix it. To the tune if $2,000. If you want mechanics who care about your vehicle and can trouble shoot a whole system instead of spot fix what they think is the problem i suggest you go somewhere else. I feel totally taken advantage of and extremely disappointed in the service I didnt receive from this shop. Especially after having the same mini mechanic for 15 years. Go elsewhere if you have a Mini Cooper they will charge you too much for not doing a full diagnostic. They did provide free uber service. Great group of guys! My 2012 328i was brought to their shop to do a diagnostic to figure out the fuel supply issue that would come up from time to time. I read a lot of reviews and online forums about similar issues that other bmw owners experience. My biggest hesitation about repairing the problem was going to someone who had in depth knowledge of the car and issues. The next was the ability to access the issue and repair with minimum cost. My last, was the issue becoming a reoccurring issue once it was “fixed” and left the shop. I am sure for other people things are concerns when it comes to racking up expenditures into the thousands. No one wants to feel taken advantage of and I can definitely say my worries hit the door with these guys. They were able to give an abundance of information on the issues at hand along with others things they notice out of professional courtesy. Even better, they have three year warranty policy for the work they do. They make you feel like apart of their small family by taking care of your car like it was one of their own.They are very friendly and extremely professional! They are Awesome!! They definitely went above and beyond. They didnt charge me for a storage fee while we waited for ever to deal with my warranty company. They warranty their work for 2 years. When i decided to do some work on the car myself they answered all my questions and gave me a step by step guide on how to finish something i was working on. And when i needed a part they hooked me up and got me out of a jam!!!!! I am wholly unimpressed with German Auto Sport. I took my car there when my Mini was leaking coolant on the garage floor. I couldnt go to my regular mechanic because they had closed down during Covid. I called and made an appointment at GAS and took my car in a few days later. I dropped my car off at 8:00am. By 4:00pm, I had not heard anything from them. When I called, they told me they had not even looked at my car yet, but that I was next in line. I didnt hear from them again that day. The next day, I still had not heard from them so I called then around 9:30a.m. I was put on hold, and then told that I would get a call back in 10 minutes. After 30 minutes had passed, I called again. While I was on the phone with them, I received the inspection report and the estimate via email. I asked GAS if they could do the work that day, since they had already had my car for a full day, and it was a Friday. I was told that they couldnt guarantee that they could get to my car that day, and I might have to leave it over the weekend. I was also told that the repair cost would be a minimum of $1404 (plus the $195 diagnostic fee). At that point I was frustrated that it seemed like I had to keep pushing the job forward, and that I would likely have to leave my car there over the weekend. I was told that the slow service was caused by supply chain issues and other customers ahead of me. However, if I had known that my car wouldnt be looked at for a whole day, I would have asked for an appointment on a day when they had time to see me. I decided to go pick up my car and just pay the $195 diagnostic fee.I took my car to another reputable garage in Berkeley the following week and had the job done. My total for the same work there: $863.71. And they gave me a complimentary loaner rental while they were working on my car. I compared the estimate from GAS and the garage where I ultimately had the repair. GAS had a 50% markup on labor costs, and parts costs that ranged from 30% to 400% markup. They even proposed to charge me $89 for a part that the other garage didnt even use.The whole experience just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The repair was a simple one, that even I, a person with little car engine knowledge, could understand. Why did GAS want to charge me $106 for coolant and the other garage charged me $27? It just reinforces the stereotype that car repair garages play on customer ignorance to rip them off. Really disappointing. Definitely would not recommend GAS to a friend.

If you want to go to a shop that actually treats you with respect and dignity, this is your place. I also never felt pressured into doing work that I could either do myself or couldnt afford. A rip off shop. I am a client so you have a record of this inspection because I had to pay you to get the car back after diagnosis of the axle issue which I told you was the problem. If I was at home or within 100 miles I would have fixed it myself, I have a 2-post and fully equipped garage. This is a common, simple job as are the tension strut bushings that should have been diagnosed but you missed even though they are visible.You wanted to charge me more than the dealership does to fix the damaged front axle of my e61 530xi. I went to a competitive shop nearby that was rated similarly but provided a lower cost more complete repair that has been just fine for many miles since the repair. If Google wants proof that I am a legitimate reviewer they can contact me, they have my info as do you and you know it.No need to try to bully me, Ill not be returning to your shop and will make sure to point at your unfriendly reply to my original post to anyone who asks me about my experience with your shop.

There’s a lot that can be said about German Auto Sport (GAS): the high quality work, the deep knowledge about German cars, the exceptional customer service, the thorough walk-through diagnostics, timely turnaround, and accurate estimates. Service was GOOD, but the prices are higher than what dealership would charge you. I advise to check the dealership quotes for every service you need before you come here. In my case the prices in average were 30-40% higher than what dealership offered ( oil change was $250 and spark plugs were $325). Unfortunately, I called the dealership after I left my car at GAS. Chris at German Auto Sport is an extremely knowledgeable and genuine mechanic. I was having trouble repairing my 1986 BMW 325ES heater. The heater wasn’t blowing hot. After trying out all the possible tests to diagnose it and after receiving little help from the web I got in contact with Chris. He was extremely helpful, and was able to point me in the right direction. After speaking to Chris I had the heater fixed in a matter of minutes. Just bought a 2013 VW Beetle in November and it started making whistling noises when I turned. It escalated into a loud aggressive whine sound, my wheel became super tight, and my P/S fluid was emptying out. My E90 335i has been running incredibly performantly following several maintenance bouts at German Auto Sport. After multiple less than satisfactory pre-purchase inspections of this same model here, I was properly advised by the staff and purchased my current car.Initially German Auto Sport replaced the timing belt and several gaskets to make the car safe to drive. Over the next couple of months, they replaced the fuel injectors and the radiator and myriad hoses. Clutch pedal on 2016 VW GTI wasn’t popping up consistently, went in for transmission diagnosis. Shop said no problem detected, came back with a recommendation to change out the water pump - when no active leak was detected. Upon driving home, the clutch pedal, again, didn’t pop up and stayed down near the floorboard. Extremely disappointed, after 5 days in the shop, the problem was obviously not diagnosed - or fixed. Yup the 5 Star ratings are indeed misleading. I brought in my e60 545i for a replacement of the HID headlights. First red flag, when they went to look at the lights Gary and the Tech both said they couldnt see the problem. If you are shop specializing in BMW repair you should know that when the headlight(s) turn purple or pinkish color the bulb will go out within the next few days if youre lucky. So after I pointed out the obvious they went to town talking about in order to get the headlight assembly out they had to remove the front bumper, Red Flag #2! Come on playa. These dudes estimated 400 to change my headlight and that only includes 100 for the bulb (which is accurate unless you get them on eBay like I just did).The headlight assembly is held in by two bolts and when removed the fixture can be removed from the housing and the bulbs (headlight and Angel Eyes) can be changed. Dont believe me? Google it. So why try to get a brotha for 300 in labor for a 15 minute job? I can not stress this enough that you should Google or YouTube whatever problem you are having and educate yourself before dealing with a shady company like this one.My advice is to find another Indy or bite the bullet and go to a dealership rather than do business here. Found another Indy to do the job for $56 labor plus part and was still less than half what these guys told me they charged. BAD BAD BAD!!!!!!!
