My out of town friends said this was their favorite Gelato place in San Diego. They were right it was outstanding! We had the Pear and Chocolate chip and they both had wonderfully smooth flavors!

My most favorite ice cream place in San Diego. They have good flavours of ice cream with the correct amount of sweetness. Also, the quantity is decent. Some of the recommended flavors are Amaretto, Opera, Sea Salt Caramel, Pistachio, and Toffee Crunch. It is located perfectly about 3 blocks from encinitas Beach. Love the cafe seating area, inside and out. More space on the outside. It is filled with people always. But they give a quick service, youll take more time to decide the flavours than the time you spend in line to wait. It would be nice if they have a board outside with flavours of the day, so that we need not have to hurry while ordering. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to add a memory to their beach experience. Would love to go to this place as many times as possible.

It’s a cute shop, I liked the atmosphere a lot. I wasn’t to keen on the flavors they had available but I really enjoyed the amaretto and the coconut. The peanut butter flavor is a great choice as well. Prices are a little steep in comparison to other gelato places I’ve visited when taking into account quality and portion size. Overall it’s a cute spot, great place for dates and family outings.

We had the chocolate, tiramisu, dragon berry and black vanilla. Chocolate was the best, tiramisu was good too, dragon berry is great if you are looking for something fresh and fruity. Black vanilla was difficult but a bit on the sweeter end. They let us taste pretty much all the flavors, which made it a nice experience overall.

Wow! This place is awesome for rich- amazing gelato. Try the opera- it’s hazelnut and a mix of pine nuts and pistachios. Love also that they have a little indoor space to eat your ice cream and vine with friends, in addition to the patio

Gelato 101 is the best gelato shop in San Diego, maybe even in the USA. When we go to have gelato there, we feel like we are in Italy. So authentic! They are very creative with their flavors and of course have the traditional flavors as well. The family that owns it is so hospitable and great customer service. My absolute favorite is getting a scoop of coffee and scoop of sea salted caramel and having them pour a shot of espresso over it!!! YUM!!! My mouth is watering as I type just thinking about it. Please dont waste your time going to any other gelato shop.

Yum! There’s not much more to say other than yum. We each got a different flavor then sat on the pillows outside and enjoyed the night. The line went quickly so it didn’t take long for us to get through. There was a small area inside to sit but a large area outside. The flavors were authentic and the texture was right on.

I got passion fruit and mango gelato. I’m a big fan of passion fruit and it was AMAZING. If you go you HAVE to try it! The mango was good but not great - it tasted like a muted mango flavor. I wish it was a little stronger. Overall, this was a great location, atmosphere and tasted great!

Love the ambiance! The outdoor seating area is beautiful, with the greenery and fireside tables at night. But, don’t just come here for the vibes. The gelato is one of the best I’ve ever had. Delicious gelato and a great area to get out of the sun to chill. Limited indoor seating but a very nice patio with a fire pit and artificial grass with couches and chairs to lounge in. Located at the corner of Pacific Coast and d Street. Only a few parking spots available here, but plenty of street parking with no meters which is nice.

Being in the right spot is absolutely critical to success, not to mention having the right great products that public wants guaranteed a queue always.This gelato, boba tea at the intersection of busy Highway 101 and D Street (where theres a beach access and lookout spot) on a 70-80F sunny S. Oh ... the GELATO!! Along the coastal drive between San Diego and Oceanside we stumbled upon a quaint gelato eatery, called Gelato 101, in Encinata, CA. A popular place for very tasty gelato! Its early July of 2023. Summer time and hot. Many people are enjoying visit to gelato 101. I scoop of their chocolate and one of pistachio. I really wanted two more but with tremendous self-discipline I didnt. The line appeared long, but they move everybody through quite quickly. Theres a lot of wonderful outdoor seating as well as indoor. If youre visiting, this would be an after dinner spot or an afternoon spot for a visit for sure.

You could raise your own cow, hand fed on organic grasses and flowers, massaged by loving hands, and milked by virgins and it still wouldnt taste as good as Gelato 101. Truly excellent coconut gelato, intensely flavoured, not too sweet. Nutty with a wonderful texture. Together with dark chocolate drowned in espresso made an exceptional treat. This is a really nice place to grab a gelato due to its great location in Encinitas and the pleasant atmosphere here.However, I am vegan and the only plant-based options they offered were sorbets. The flavor of my chosen sorbet was okay, but it was disappointing to not have a creamier option. It feels a bit lazy to only offer sorbets for plant-based customers these days. So on that basis, Im not sure if Id return. However, if youre not vegan - the gelato options look amazing, so your experience will likely be much better.

The place has a nice seating area and good vibes. I liked the flavors I chose. Chocolate, coffee and dragon fruit which was excellent. I fell on an impatient long hair redhead server, that gave me pea size tastes to check out. My final portion came out pretty small. Other’s two scoop came larger than my three scoop. The best gelato in San Diego county! This gelato is so fresh and delicious, made fresh daily sometimes more than once a day. The presentation is beautiful and makes selecting just one flavor so hard that we usually end up getting the small cup, which is two generous scoops. The coffee, sometimes espresso, is amazing, as is the guava, the dark chocolate is deep and rich without being over sweet, the berry is luscious, in fact pretty much any choice in any flavor cant be beat elsewhere. And you can take a pint home to enjoy whenever you like. Its hands down our favorite gelato place.

Wow!! Usually i dont like to try to many types and i like to get it just right on my first or second attempt at finding a new but tasty treat. The staff were awesome in letting me try a few flavours as they were all delicious. I had a hard time picking yet knew i would enjoy my dish after the internal struggle. My girlfriend and i got a helpful explanation of how they make their treats without chemicals ect and she was so passionate about telling us we felt like we were part of a family instead of being just customers. The experience was so much fun it reminded me that going out no matter where you go can be an adventure and not just a chore.

I was so surprised that there was a new Gelato place in SB :) such a cute store with ammmazing flavors, good prices, quality ingredients, and friendly staff. They told me that the gelato is even house made ( they have an on-site chef!!!) and ordered by many local restaurants:) The beautiful display case is also easy to navigate for individuals, like myself, with dietary sensitivities. I am gluten free and egg free and often have to settle with vegan flavors at ice cream places - which are not always as satisfying when you are craving something creamy and non-fruit flavored. At Gelato 101 the flavors are clearly labeled if they contain Gluten (G) or Eggs (E) or are vegan (V). And I have to say the vegan flavors here fully pass all the tests- texture and taste are 10/10! Really excited to have this new spot to take the family and meet friends for an indulgent healthy treat, and keep exploring the yummy flavors that the chef comes up with.

I love ice cream, but this gelato was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! I went on a Tuesday then on Wednesday and the flavors changed! The patio is sooooo cute! The flowers and plants that surround Gelato 101 are adorable. The staff is really nice! It was 9:30 when we got there and they still got us our gelatos. They closed at 9:39 because we were still eating, it was an extraordinary experience!!!The mocha gelato is amazing, the strawberry, and the mint chip are delicious! It was a delight having Gelato 101 cater our outdoor wedding reception Aug 6. It was one of the reception highlights. Everyone continues to talk about the delicious gelato. I loved the set up, simple elegance, matching the rest of our décor. Being a warm evening, the gelato went fast and ran out early, while there was a lot of leftover cake. I’m super happy my friend Lori got us 3 pints to take to Idyllwild, post reception, so I didn’t feel like I missed out as I couldn’t eat any during the reception. This gelato is exceptional and I’m excited a store is opening in Solana Beach. This will be our “go to” spot for a treat.

Very bad experience that we had this morning starting with a cashier who was very unwilling to treat us badly and then charged us twice for a coffee then they did not give us the coffee we had breakfast without coffee, after the cashier already with an expression He even resisted, he turned around and left us talking, only a so-called manager came with a deal but he threw a poster from his work table, grabbed the computer insultingly and turned it around to try to show us something we didnt understand. terrible experience they ruined our morning and also the breakfast was incomplete, the acais bowls are very good but terrible attention

The Gelato is really tasty. Good variety of flavors. The Black Vanilla is very creative.Why only 3 Stars? I was at Gelato 101 on 7/22/2019. When the server was scoping the Gelato, she went from one flavor to the next without cleaning the ice cream scooper. Although I have no significant food allergies, I have family members and friends that do. Cross contamination can be a serious issue with serious consequences. Although I wouldnt expect the risks to be completely eliminated, it doesnt take much to decrease the risks.

Have had far better gelato. Didn’t finish a small which says it all!Instead hit the ice cream shop on a major corner a few blocks north down the road on the same side of the street instead (can’t remember the name but look for all the people). They have 55 flavors that they make fresh every morning. Great service, amazing ice cream, and they let you sample.

This place used to be Moonlight Yogurt, loved it there. Now its Gelato 101. Like how they remodeled the outside seating area plus added a small barrier to isolate area from the sidewalk. Me and my bf fell in love with this place way back when it was still called Moonlight Frozen Yogurt or something very close to that. We love in OC and did a staycation at welk resort. We found this gelato place while heading toward the beach. Love the gelato here made fresh and taste delicious. We went twice to get their ice cream. If you are lucky they have 1 flavor hazelnut that is sugar free (stevia) and can do black or green milk tea unsweet. Since Im borderline DM glad I was able to find DM friendly dessert. This place is comparable to the gelato place in Laguna Beach. Its so good we drive down from OC to get our fix. Finally a place that has more dairy free options since I’m lactose intolerant. The fruit flavors are really fruity tasting with no artificial flavoring.
