We happened upon Folktale by chance and could not have been happier with our choice! Nick was our server and was so accommodating and amazing. Great candid recommendations on the food and wine. Richard fought tirelessly with the heater after the sun set to keep us warm. And Daniel shared his amazing wine knowledge and experiences with us. We tried the Sweet Heat pizza, chocolate bread pudding and sparkling rose. If I had room, I’d have had two of everything! Highly recommend!!!

Such a beautiful winery! I came down here to visit for the first time, and planned a trip centered around dog friendly activities. It was such a unique experience to wine and dine with my pup. The Manager Angel greeted us and truly made this experience special. He was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and the area - it was really interesting to hear how wine is made in the area, and to get a deeper understanding of all the wines in our tasting. I had the signature, while my partner had the reserve reds. We also ordered food — the charcuterie board, sweet heat and BBQ chicken flatbread pizzas, and the chocolate bread pudding. Each dish was super unique, and the dessert was definitely my favorite. Our server Nick was also super nice and attentive. It seemed like he truly cared about his job and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Carmel or to the locals looking for a fun afternoon out. Sending major thanks to Angel for making this such a unique and memorable experience! His hospitality is a key reason why I’d be coming back again and again. Just lovely!

We were visiting around this area and came across this gem. It was my 30th birthday and I wanted to enjoy a nice, relaxing day in a winery - and that is exactly what I got. The place was beautiful, the wine and the food were great. I had a wonderful time & would definitely recommend!

We had an absolutely amazing experience for lunch here! We did the signature wine tasting, had the pesto and sweet heat flatbreads and the spumoni gelato. The setting was gorgeous, the food and wine was amazing, and Sergio, our server, provided an exceptional tasting and dining experience. 10/10

We had an amazing visit at Folktale Winery & Vineyards! The wine and food were all delicious, the atmosphere was charming, and the service was outstanding. Nick took great care of us and made the visit very memorable. He brought over Daniel to further discuss some wine questions with us. Both of them were extremely knowledgeable of wine without being pretentious. They were eager to share their hospitality and passion with us. Visiting here was a vacation highlight for us and I highly recommend it.

We had a great afternoon here. The tasting area is beautiful. Hostess was pleasant. Our server, Pedro, was very nice and super knowledgeable. We will definitely request him next time we come. I went there with clients in 2018 for a lunch amidst the grapevines. Fantastic atmosphere and food, they set up the table perfectly and we even got to help with a part of the harvest. The location itself feels very vast, close to nature and is beautifully decorated.The staff was very attentive and considered all our wishes and preferences. Would love to go back!

Make a reservation!!! You’ll be happy you did! We made the mistake of not getting one and we weren’t able to get a table. We went back a week later and it was AMAZING! The sweet heat pizza was to die for and the wine was amazing I recommend the flight for $40! You get to try 6 different wines and you get some $$ off if you buy a bottle! We spent around $100 on the flight and 2 pizzas. Not bad considering the amazing views.

While visiting from Florida in September I had the wonderful privilege to visit your winery ( a birthday surprise). What a beautiful experience we had, from the tour to the lunch we shared it was all fabulous. Being a wine drinker it has always been a “bucket list” for me to visit a winery, and with the help of my family and my husband surprising me I was able to check off a bucket item. Your winery is amazing and I will surely visit again when I return to California ❤️🍇🍷

Everything from the moment you park your car to pulling out to leave is enchanting! Food was delicious. We made this reservation 3 months ago and wow is all I can say. We made a 6:30 reservation. It was chilly so they lit the patio heater for us. Then the lights came on and this place was so beautifully romantic. The cheese board was a tasty beginning. Its quite large so share it with the table, the grilled octopus appetizer was salty but the broth and veggies are under seasoned to provide fantastic contrast. It was our favorite. The meatballs were THE BEST we have ever had....EVER! QUITE a compliment. My husband and I split all 3 dishes and bought a bottle of wine...we were so satisfied but also everything is reasonably priced and superb service to top it off. If we could come back again tomorrow we absolutely would! Make the reservation...its ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!!

I have been here multiple times, I like their bubbles. Each consecutive time I have visited, Ive been made to feel like Im an inconvenience to them. Food is not great, Ive ordered pizzas here and a frozen pizza is better than theirs. Ambiance is very nice but staff is rude, snobby to a certain degree. I have tried their other wines and they are very sugary. Go somewhere else where they are friendlier like Georis, or Seabold.

Super disappointed in our experience. Driving to Monterey and looked up kid-friendly wineries in the area, this one came up. I checked their website and it didnt really emphasize reservations being required, yet we get there and the girl tells us we news a reservation. Its a beautiful vineyard. There is so much space on this property but i cant even order a glass of wine unless I have a table reservation? Ive never experienced that at any of the wineries I have been to. She said I could buy a bottle of wine and sit at the picnic table so I went into the building attached to the restaurant, not one employee greeted me or asked if I needed assistance, I had no clue where to even buy the bottle once I decided on one. We are staying in Monterey for 10 days and this would have been my go-to winery while here, but after this lack-luster experience I wont be returning.

The sparkling rosé was my favorite—I bought a bottle. A wonderful place to come with a group of friends, or for a romantic getaway. Hope to return someday!

While we enjoyed the wine and the food (we bought a bottle, charcuterie board and a pizza... delicious), we found the atmosphere a little odd. The live music was good, but it definitely did not suit a sunny Saturday afternoon out at a winery, the only way I could think to describe it was somber. While I am glad we went an experienced a new place I dont think well hurry back.

You can pop in without a reservation, though they do ask if you have one, so is best practice to make one. Lovely little winery with a pretty view of the valley, flowers, and a shop inside. Got the welcome flight and some delicious calzone pizzas. No longer do tours because of Covid (May 2022), but cute spot for a date and a view! Such a great little winery. Some of the best service I’ve ever received. It was very busy because of the Napa fires and our waiter went above and beyond. The tasting series is a great way to try all their wines that they have on offer. Loved the giant board games and outdoor setting as well. Perfect day out to the city.

A wonderful winery with some light fare and great wine. My wife and I wanted to try a local winery during our stay in Carmel. We opted for Folktale because it offered some food choices as well as wine tasting. While reservations are required here, we didnt know that but they were kind enough to seat us anyway. We sat in the covered patio (due to the chance of rain) at a cozy table for two. Not being sure which wines would be best, we went with our servers suggestion and ordered a flight of wine each. We both chose the same flight wines: the Sparkling Rose, Reserve SLH Pinot Noir, and Josephs Blend (Grenache and Syrah). Each sample was about 3 ounces and were all very good. My favorite was Josephs Blend. We ordered a charcuterie board as well with curated meats and added some cheese to the board. The board was great; it had three types of meat - Folktales salami, calabrese salami, and wild boar salami. I was hesitant on the wild boar salami thinking it might be a bit gamey, but it was really good and, by far, my favorite of the three meats. The cheese was a light, firm cheese, similar to a Jack cheese. The board also came with cured olives, R&R bread, mustard jam, and purple onion conserva. Just a great addition to our wine flight. Our server, Ashley (sp?) was fantastic, attentive but no overly so, and just a joy. Highly recommended!

It has a lovely atmosphere for outdoor dining and drinking, and they were taking all the necessary measures for COVID (scan QR code for menu, servers wearing masks). They didn’t have the cheese board when we went, but the meatballs, ceviche and truffle fries was pretty good.We made a reservation for noon on the weekend, and there was already a line of people waiting to get in before they opened, so I definitely recommend getting a reservation beforehand.

I joined the wine club after having a brunch at the winery . The brunch, the wine we tasted and our server were amazing. But to my dismay, last weekend was my first wine pickup for the wine club members. I didn’t know you have to make reservations otherwise no service. I stood and waited at the lobby for my wine pick up. Apparently there’s a confusion about my wine pick up. I have been a member with other wineries and this is the worst experience as a wine club member. I will cancel after I meet the requirement to cancel membership. The hostesses were not friendly.

I ended up taking a bottle home. The french toast was great but I recommend the flat bread. You will get full off of it especially with the thick slab of bacon.

My wife and I were recently treated to a very nice Sunday brunch for our anniversary. Our friends were able to join us as they were also celebrating the opening of their business in Carmel (Remedy Spa). The brunch was fantastic and Chef Andrew and his team did an amazing job in everything from the presentation of our meals to the selection of wines to go with our meals.This wasnt our first time here, but definitely one that we will remember. If you are in the area and contemplating doing some tasting coupled with a great food option, I would suggest you stop in and treat yourself to a nice place to enjoy good food and wine.

Estate Rose perfect for a warm summer day- super refreshing.We had the margarita and carbonara pizza with the cucumber salad.The pizzas could have been in the oven for a hair longer- not too crispy on the crust. The salad listed feta cheese and kalamata olives - there were a piece of each in the salad.We also waited 15 ish minutes in a pretty empty restaurant for any kind of service.Beautiful location. We didn’t book early enough for lunchtime. We had a 2pm tasting and had a great brunch in Carmel Valley so we elected to do the tasting only. There are six tastings for the white/red portfolio picks and red only flight. Generous pours and a lot to drink without food. We did not enjoy many of the wines at the start of the flights and upon consultation with our server we hydrated the earth and plantings near our table. Overall wine = 3 stars. The ambience of the covered and uncovered patio, garden, greens and feng shui flow from the entry through the store to the exterior space was nicely designed and decorated. 5-stars. People-watching = 4 stars. (Dogs included) Food looked attractive at nearby tables, especially the flatbreads/pizza exiting the outdoor oven.

The location, setting, and atmosphere of Folktale are all amazing. However, the service was awful. We had to constantly be asking someone for assistance with ordering, getting the next pour in the flight, asking for the check, etc. The saving grace of the whole place was that the margherita pizza was the best I’ve ever had. The crust was extra fluffy, the tomatoes were so sweet, the chilies put the flavor over the top, and the pizza was cooked perfectly. Wines were ok, but definitely not comparable with some of the other wineries in the area. Would think twice before coming back.

Handicap parking is not close to the building at all and is very limited.When we visited they had rented out Handicap parking space to a vendor making it impossible to use this parking. Pretty sure this is against the law.Would not visit again.

Unfortunately we cannot remember the name of the man who gave our tour but he was excellent. The tour ended up being just the two of us at no extra charge and he let us move at our own pace to take photos. We were celebrating a special occasion and he went to extra trouble to make it even more special. We really went for it by getting both the cheese and the chocolate plates and they were well worth it. The palace is gorgeous with a huge fireplace, cushy leather and lovely decorating. Our favorite wine was the Brut. Thanks Folktale cant wait to come back!

I’ve been a member here since 2018, before it became touristy and impossible to just drop in for a glass. As a long-time member or member in general you would think it would be easier to take advantage of your member benefits. Unfortunately they have had a lot of staff turnover in recent years and over the past year or so anytime I’ve visited I’ve had to have a reservation as the “members only” area isn’t a thing anymore? The staff is lackluster compared to the earlier years when people seemed excited to be there. Not to mention, the wine just isn’t hitting the mark anymore. It’s unfortunate because it is such a beautiful spot. As I write this, my husband has been waiting in the lobby for over 20 minutes waiting to pickup our wine club order which, by the way, members were told today was the last day for this quarter’s pickup and the hostess who answered the phone huffed and was annoyed when I stated why we were here. After 5 years, I’m taking my money elsewhere. I sincerely hope this place turns around.Update: The club membership team was very responsive and helpful in addressing my concerns.

Went to an event here and was disappointed with the experience and wine overall, as well as advertising for the event. I made sure to call ahead to ensure wine tasting was included in the ticket price, which we were told it was. Once arriving however, we learned tastings were not available at all, even to purchase unless we were wine club members. Wine could be bought by the glass or bottle, but options were limited ($15-20 a glass), which was disappointing considering we could have had a significantly wider selection at a restaurant nearby for the same cost. Food was also disappointing. Options were hot dogs, popcorn, etc, and the vegetarian option was mushrooms and cauliflower on rice. Not great considering the additional cost ($20 for a single hot dog with sour cream on top). The music was not very loud and the breaks between each band were long. We were looking forward to the artists but were disappointed they werent well featured, especially since that was all the ticket paid for. Overall, I really regret attending an event here. There are so many amazing places and wineries to visit in this area, I wish we had gone elsewhere.

This set the tone for the experience. Won’t go back. The owner of this winery should consider changing Briana out or at least get her out of the public eye. So sad, as this is a beautiful spot, but Briana spoiled it all.

Great vineyard, wonderful spot, the weather is always great in the valley, and the views are astonishing. However, the service is too inconsistent and you never know if you’re gonna have phenomenal service, or be forgotten. The wine is also generally just a bit above the price for it’s quality.

Well. As much as the nature of the venue is great - there is no customer service …. And no accountability for owners business.I came to the desk - they tolled me no tables are available … however many tables are empty. I ask and they say me down. 1 hour later - no one approached me to ask at least if I want to drink. Mind that venue is outside. Unfortunately I would suggest that you visit elsewhere. I was really looking forward to our visit. We attempted to visit today. We made a reservation in advance for 5:00 pm. When we arrived a few minutes before 5, we were told to wait while they clean the table. 30 minutes go by and they finally say our table is ready. They walk us over the the table and it isn’t clean. The staff then proceeded to walk us to another table that was also not clean and told us to sit there. We sat down and waited for a while. No servers came over so we finally gave up.

I took my family here Monday April 10th 2023 . We arrived at 12 folktail opens at 1130, upon arrival they told us we needed to have a reservation to even enter or leave my name and come back at 130 due to them not having enought educators it was my moms birthday so I put our name in said we would be back . When we arrived they took a good 15 minutes to get our order. The server did not describe the wine he poured for us at all !! After receiving our first 2 glasses to taste I had to get up to ask our server for our other glasses due to waiting another 15 minutes for our refill for our tasting. I believe it is under new ownership definitely. We experience the worst service!! I have been a server for 14 years and I couldnt believe how down hill this place has gotten . I had to get up 4 times to ask our server for service and for our bill at the end . It is a beautiful scenery but I dont believe any of us will be going back unless they find some good knowledgeable service like it used to be for years !! I became a member of this winery when they started six years ago. Everything has continually improved including food and wine. They allow for families to bring their children which makes it extra special. The fire pits and heat lamps will keep you warm during winter days and evenings. The food is excellent. Pizza and grilled octopus cannot be missed. Santa Lucia highlands Pinot reserve is one of the best wines served as part of the red wine selection. On a hot summer day the white witch is the way to go or their Albarino wine.This is an amazing place located in. Carmel Valley. The ambiance takes you away just like a ferry tale. The concert and comedy series are amazing and personal.The only reason for 4 star is that the food selections has gone down since the last chef departed and in particular the concerts and comedy series menu offerings are particularly bad and over priced!

A wine tasting experience where it took 40 minutes from when we were seated at our table to when we saw any wine. (25 minutes before anyone introduced themselves to take our order, 15 more for wine to arrive). And once it arrived, the sparkling wine was served warm and flat. 90 minutes later we flagged someone down so we could pay and leave, we otherwise never saw anyone. Both were oddly slightly sweet which was odd for savory dishes. The chimichurri on the toast seemed out of place as a flavor. The frittata had really large pieces of veg (onion, potatoes, asparagus) that were a bit too large and had to be cut up into multiple smaller pieces. We ordered on of the wine cocktails (the white one) and it was really sweet. Also big thumbs down on single use plastic bottles for water 😞Well just go wine tasting here next time.

You need to book and prepay $15 per person EVEN JUST FOR A TASTING. We didnt understand that from the website (who prepays for a wine tasting?!). The wine garden is very comfortable, like hanging out at on friends patio. Only drawback today was the punk-pop (circa 2004) that was playing through the speakers before the live music began. Its not what I want to listen to when Im sipping bubbly and nibbling on charcuterie. Or ever, really, unless Im 14 again. I would have loved some classy, world jazz, lounge, Spanish guitar, even folk. We hope to come back soon.

We came to the winery in a large group on 5/28/2016 for one of our wedding weekend activities. The winery itself was beautiful (hence the 2 stars) but the tour was absolutely horrendous. Our tour guide was more excited to talk about himself and convinced some of our late-arrival guests to join, even when they stated many times they did not want to join halfway through the tour. He made it seem like he would just guide them back after the tour, but ended up taking us through a long and boring tour. He did not know what he was doing and after the tour, we were supposed to taste some wine. The process was extremely poorly communicated. We waited around for a long time before they came out with any wine. Since our group was quite large, they did not have enough glasses for us and ended up pouring our wines into plastic cups - this was after the guide reiterated how special their wines were and how they were organic and high quality. Yes, so serve that in plastic cups. To top that off, the wines were not good at all. The payment for the tour and tasting was even a bigger mess. The guide then tried to blame this whole debacle on us. It was truly an unfortunate experience for such a beautiful winery.If you decide to visit the winery, I would recommend to just enjoy their courtyard and not take the wine tour. Dont waste your money.

The loss of 1 star is due to the french toast.. it tasted as if it was cooked on a dirty skillet or oven, the taste of whatever was cooked before transferred to the french toast. It was inedible, presentation itselfwas distasteful even before we took a bite. Also there was about 2 coconut flakes and 1 piece of fruit on 1 piece of bread. $18 for one piece of bread is absolute con especially since there was such a lack of toppings. You know, I love the casual atomospere and very nice setting, of this winery. Plus it is dog friendly! We went on a week day, and it was not overyly crowded, which was nice. We werent in a hurry, and neither were the waitstaff. Now, if your in a hurry, this could be a problem for you.We tried the rose, very delicious and it had a pretty full body which to me was unique for a rose. We will be back for sure, we look forward to sampling some of their other obviously great wines, and and yummy sounding pairings. Lets talk about the customer service. Our waiter, man with a brown beard (sorry I forgot his name) was AWESOME! The hostesses were incredibly rude. 45 minute wait because they were full to capacity.... if capacity means several empty tables. We heard them yell at other waiters for letting a group sit at one of the EMPTY tables -- unprofessional. Our waiter could tell I was disappointed with the hostesses so he tried very hard to make our experience more positive. He was the shining star in a sub-par experience. Maybe go on a weekday when they arent as busy and disorganized?Also, they treat it like a restaurant. Meaning, you have to wait for a table. Its not a traditional wine tasting so be prepared to wait. The folk tale is that this place has good wine. Poor tasting wines is the reality. Great servers who are not responsible for poor business practices. On one of our stops at Monterey Wine region while on our 10 year anniversary trip all the way from Miami, Florida, we came to enjoy the scenery and the wine. This establishment closes at 8pm on weekdays. We ordered food (charcuterie board and the short rib flat bread) at 6:55pm and after a few minutes our server came and told us the Chef had closed the kitchen because he had to go cater a concert they were having on the other side of the property. Well thanks for the amazing attention to customer service. Also, the fire pits were not turned on even though in the outside seating area when the weather was low 50’s because apparently they did not “produce much heat”. I guess we were not that important compared to the concert. The server apologized and offered to comp us one of the flights. We understood it was out of his control. We stayed and tasted the wine. Pfffft! Don’t even bother. The sparkling brut wine was the only one that was drinkable. The rest I will leave at no comment. This place with its nice setup really left a poor taste in our mouth literally and figuratively. Food Allergies Beware!We attended the Chef Duel #3 on November 6th. We have known about this event for some time - but this was the first time our schedules were open to allow us to attend. We knew food was available for purchase - but were surprised at the prices ($10 for a hot dog & $12 for a glass of wine). We watched the Chef demo (Justin Robarge vs Dyon Foster) and then tasted their offerings. Sadly, there was no posting of food ingredients & I have a severe allergy to tree nuts. As it turns out, Chef Fosters food contained hazelnuts which were not disclosed. I tried his food first & once realized there was an ingredient used that I shouldnt eat - and verified with the Chef. As a result of this, I had to take a rescue oral medicine & leave the event immediately to be able to get home in case I needed injectable epinephrine. I have written to the winery to suggest a change to their venue - such as posting ingredients in writing either in signage or in handouts - but to date, have had no reply. If I could give this event a negative star, I would surely do so.

Absolutely gorgeous Winery both it’s products, scenery, facilities and whole experience merit dedicated practically a whole day and coming back for social evening dinners with concertsWe spent such a memorable day with perfect weather; and Folktale most de finely was the highlight a bit pricey but their people are extremely nice friendly helpful they absolutely go above and beyond for their guests to enjoy their time at tHeir property with their pairings and facilitate purchases even with free of your favorite 2 -3 bottles no matter pricey vendimia scarce product promotions for volume or future purchases free shipping if 6pu are spending some more time vacation in CA you will find surprise free bottles of your fave varieties in your rooms with pairings as welcome, every other week at Winery different themes pairings events with entertainment;mm, these events all clients receive free invites who are registered in their lists or company has contact information;Annually clients are welcome trained as volunteers participants in the vendimia collection plus observation of the whole initial process to produce the wines typically about 50-80 selected to work about 3 months for a half minim salary stipend plus they pay for all your personal expenses, insurances 1yr for direct family, transportation (airfare first non-stop. 2 nights hotel 1 1 prior trip each trip leg so you are close airport and prepare)); 1 personal PTO per week plus 1 weekly winery community PTO to share relax etc plus volunteers PTO in shifts participate in special e. This is an awesome gathering place...great wines with smart, local foods that pair with the wines. The decor is inviting, comfortable, chic with an old-fashion flair....a real locals rendezvous and a great place for out-of-towners to get to know Carmel sensibilities and Monterey County wines. What I particularly appreciate is the emphasis on local foods, organic whenever possible, handmade cheeses and charcuterie, organic fruits, local honey, jams,and sweets. (The honey is worked by a 13 years old boy who got into beekeeping from a 5th grade project; he has one hive in the vineyard.) There is wonderful music on the weekends: Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Dont miss this delicious experience!
