Flemings Fundamentals of Law was my prep program for the California First Year Law Students Exam (FYLSX aka Baby Bar) and the California General Bar Exam. The program has comprehensive lectures, outlines, and attack sheets for answering any essay exam. The courses have writing assignments with feedback and cover the most challenging essays tested. I passed both the Baby Bar and, four years later, the General Bar my first time. Even during law school, I used all of Flemings Exam Solutions all four years. Flemings products gave me a structured approach to each subject and a study method that I used through law school. Flemings lectures are engaging, humorous, and has guest lecturers who are the premier in their field. FFOL gave me everything I needed to be successful. Hazel, FFOLs GM, is positive, encouraging, and was so giving of her time to listen to my needs and to help me make a decision that was going to be the best plan for me. FFOL and Hazel want their students to pass - and I did!

I am so pleased that I chose Flemings to prepare for the Baby Bar (and now all my other classes). Without having a law background, I felt pretty intimidated in a class with plenty of legal assistants and paralegals by my sides. About 6 months before taking the Baby Bar, I compared all the programs by price, reviews, and materials. Flemings made the most sense for how much I got for my dollars. It wasn’t until I actually completed the Baby Bar Review Course and the Writing Workshop that I realized how much more material existed outside of my classes and additional outlines I had purchased in the past. I used the Flemings criminal law review to prepare for the Baby Bar, but timed it for right before my course final. Finishing first in my class that term, and passing the Baby Bar six weeks later made me a believer. As for the Writing Workshop, I took it three weeks before the Baby Bar and it totally changed how I structured and wrote my essays. I guess the Flemings way was the right way because one of my essays scored an 80 (this is an excellent score if you’re not familiar) and was chosen by the State Bar to publish as an example on their website. Passing the Baby Bar on my first attempt was really important to me, and I am certain that my Flemings prep was the secret to my success. My only regret is that I wish I started using Flemings study aids on my very first term of law school. If you want an easy to follow, easy to understand prep course that works, look no further. I have purchased and attended both the Baby Bar and General Bar Tutorial Series at Flemings. With the aid of the materials and lecture videos, I passed both at one-shots of Baby Bar an General Bar Exams.There is no doubt, that Flemings Bar Review materials are solid and up to date with the most recent changes of the Cali bar exams. A hardcore bar candidate with sufficient amount of work done and shown to the essay graders will lead to an immediate success, which will become the introduction of the professional world of law in the shortest amount of time.Go full measure with Flemings, there will be no regrets.

I took take the First Year Law Students Exam (baby bar) in June 2017 and I passed my first time around by using Flemings writing workshop and outlines along with the doing the entire baby bar program. I took the October 2020 CA Bar Exam and again used Flemings bar prep program. The outlines are solid, the essay feedback is personalized and helpful, and the staff is very fast and responsive to questions. One of the best things about Jeffs program is his essay review. I found this especially valuable for the Bar Exam, and going into the exam I felt confident I could tackle whatever issue they threw at us. I can say unequivocally that Jeffs bar prep program more than adequately prepared me for the most difficult exam I have ever taken in my life. I am so thankful that I stuck with this program throughout law school and I highly recommend it to every student that I can. I passed the CA bar exam on my first attempt by using this program and Im so grateful for Jeff, Hazel, Margaret and his team.

The materials and instruction of Fleming’s are excellent. There are none better. I took Fleming’s courses when starting out in law school, used his materials during law school to help keep focused and mentally organized. Then I found his course on performance exams to be essential to my performance and confidence on the bar exam. If you are thinking about enrolling in Professor Fleming’s Bar review course, but feel hesitant (as I was before I enrolled), I can tell you that I probably would have failed the bar exam if I had not taken this prep course. ABSOLUTELY worth the time and money!I took the California Bar exam on February of this year, shortly after finishing Professor Flemings’ two-month bar review course. Of course, I also applied myself fully and studied day and night. Still, this course gave me a priceless insight and helped me direct my efforts into the right areas and empowered me with strategies.If you are reading these reviews, you probably have finished law school and, surely, you spent lots of time and energy doing so. Now that you are thinking about taking the Bar exam, and knowing how low the passing rate is (only 31% passing rate on the February 2019 exam) you might be considering enrolling in a prep course. If you debating between taking an online Bar review course, as most law students do, or attend Flemings’ course, my advice is to go for the latter.Professor’s Flemings provides outlines, past Bar questions, model answers. But, most importantly, he helps students learn how to approach and manage each part of the Bar exam.I followed Professor Flemings’ strategies and I passed the Bar on my first try.I am writing this review because I feel truly grateful for having had the opportunity to attend Professor Flemings’ course and want others to know how fantastic and life changing it is.

Thanks to Flemings Fundamentals of Law, I was able to pass the July 2018 California Bar Exam. I had previously taken the exam using an online prep course, but I fell short in several subjects. Professor Flemings friendly-yet-disciplined in-person lectures, graded practice essays and performance tests, and easy-to-understand study materials provided me with a very structured and holistic approach to preparing for and taking the bar exam. By the end of the course, even though there was a vast amount of content to review, I was confident in my ability to tackle any subject that might appear. I highly recommend Flemings to anyone preparing to study for the bar exam.

Excellent course. Professor Fleming did an outstanding job preparing me for the FYLSE (Baby Bar). The writing critiques were a great help. There is a lot of material and Flemings Fundamentals puts it in an orderly format needed to effectively study and prep for the test. One must put in the work but the course had everything I needed to pass. I plan on continuing to use Flemings materials for the duration of law school and will enroll in his Bar prep course as well!Update after taking the general bar exam. I passed the Bar on the first sitting. The Flemings course gave me the substantive law that was needed and the practice essays that that were submitted for critique were invaluable. I found the study materials to be extremely beneficial in aiding my preparation for classes, midterms, and finals. Although I did not use all of their bar prep materials, the Evidence, Community Property, and Wills and Trust materials I purchased from them provided me with a solid foundation. I honestly believe these resources helped me graduate at the top of my class (ranked #1) and I successfully passed the bar exam on my first try.

I used Flemings for the October 2019 FYLSE (Baby Bar) and I passed on my first attempt. I honestly believe, had it not been for this Baby Bar prep program, I would not have passed. I sent my practice essays in and received them back with less than a week before the exam. Flemings graders were tough on my essays and not one of them received a passing score. With less then a week to go, I took the feedback provided, and took the exam. I passed. I got a perfect score on one essay and 75 on another. These essays pushed me over the top and I passed comfortably. Invest in this prep course, put in the work, and most importantly, take advantage of the practice essay grading and feedback this program offers. Since then, I have purchased the outlines and video lectures for my other courses. They are the best supplement for your courses. Good luck to all!

Flemings Fundamentals of Law was instrumental in helping me pass the bar. Professor Fleming has a knack for keeping his students entertained and accountable! I followed his lessons to a T, including the checklists and it made taking the bar for the second time much more manageable. The course also has time focused to performance tests. I believe the strategies they taught to tackle the performance exam section of the exam were game changing, as I became much more efficient in my process of reviewing the provided law based on the prompt. Consistency in practice, along with full engagement in the program helped me immensely. Again, Professor Flemings teaching style along with his plan for success cannot be beaten, so long as you follow the plan! I couldnt have done it without him.

I will make my opinion of Flemings Fundamental of Law as clear as possible: I would not have made it through law school or passed the bar without them. Prof. Fleming is excellent: funny, serious, lively, makes dull subjects interesting. Ive met him in person several times. My impression is that this isnt just a business to him. He cares deeply about how his students perform and is passionate about making them as prepared as they can possibly be. I wish he had been a professor at my law school. His staff are polite and helpful. I highly recommend his subject lectures/outline if you are in law school and his Bar review course if you are doing Bar exam prep.

Jeff Fleming is just an outstanding instructor. Whether listening to an audio class, or watching his taped lectures, he is a gifted instructor. I had taken the first year of law school in 2001. I was in the military and after the attack of 9/11, I was too busy to keep the law school going. Seventeen years later I retired and decided to take up the study of law again. I knew I need to take the Baby Bar, so I few out to Orange County to take the one-week preparatory course from Flemings. It was a very good course. Jeff Fleming is a real professional, a task master, yes, but one who knows what hes doing and wants his clients to succeed. I took the Baby bar and passed it first time. Thank you, Flemings.In my studies since then, I have used Flemings materials and outlines every year. These are very good. I also used the tutor service. This was really a good thing. Responsive, demanding and professional.Final note, all the people I dealt with at Flemings were friendly, helpful and professional. When dealing with the stress of law school, its good to have someone who treats you like a person.I have one more year of law school, then the bar exam. I am a second year law student doing my online law. I prepared for my baby bar from Flemings material. I prepared the essay part totally from Flemings books and listened to the CDs couple of times. I scored well on essays and cleared my bar in second attempt. My favorite part of my first year law studies is learning from Flemings baby bar prep material. I am indebted to this course for keeping me interested in law and also succeed in my exams. It is synonymous with success to me. I would recommend to all to use these for baby bar. I have not tried other prep material s as I did not feel a need for it.

The best decision I made when starting 1L was to follow my school’s recommendation and purchase Fleming’s Home Study Baby Bar Review kit. Professor Fleming explains the law effectively and efficiently, teaching you exactly what you need to know to pass the FYLSE. Using Professor Fleming’s study materials and following his suggested Baby Bar boot camp study schedule are the reasons why I passed the October 2017 FYLSE on my first try. There are so many other Bar Prep courses in the market and BAR PREP videos online nowadays that you would think it is difficult to decide which one to go with, right? Not REALLY. For me choosing Flemings Fundamentals of Law (FFL) was a SLAM DUNK decision. Professor Fleming has been helping BAR Candidates for years (35 years plus) and the support that you receive from FFL is phenomenal. Ms. Hazel is very helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and most important professional. I attribute my passing of the October 2020 Bar Exam to Flemings Fundamental of Law. I started using Flemings individual subjects through out law school. In addition to the complete bar prep outlines, essays and PT, my preparation also included private tutoring for the essays and PTs. I successfully passed the June 2017 FYLSX on the first try because I listened to and took Professor Flemings teachings to practice. Professor Fleming focuses the student on how to handle time management as well as how to effectively approach essay and MBE questions. These methods teach a first year law student to pass what was, in my opinion, a very difficult exam. I finally passed the February 2018 bar exam Thanks to Fleming’s Bar Review and Fleming’s Performance.I HIGHLY recommend Fleming’s Fundamental of Law. I am a repeat exam taker but no fault of Fleming’s material. I am dyslexic and it takes a while for the material to stick plus a very slow reader. Their material is excellent. I hired high priced tutors over the years to teach me the magic tricks of passing the bar, come to find out there is no trick you have to know the law front to back and thanks to Fleming’s I was finally able to do it. The funny part is I ALWAYS ending up used the Fleming’s material because it is very easy to follow and understand, excellent outlines, inner and outer checklist, and has mnemonics that I could remember.If you are having difficulties with the performance exams use Fleming’s, Sue Sneidermiller was amazing with teaching the material. I was very weak on objective memos but she made them easy and I passed the 2018 exam with an objective memo. Thank you Sue.Thank you to all Fleming’s Staff I could not have done it without you.

I took FFOL baby bar review and passed the fylsx (the baby bar) on my first attempt before taking and passing the general bar exam four years later after taking the FFOL general bar review course. I also passed the general bar exam on my first attempt. The FFOL course was well worth the money, because utilizing Mr. Flemings approach, you are almost guaranteed to pass the California bar exam on your first attempt! Please note that the February 2017 bar exam, which I passed, had the lowest bar passing rate in the history of the bar exam (a 35% passing rate). I personally feel that Mr. Flemings is the best bar coach in California. (emphasis added)!

I have used Flemings Fundamentals of Law (FFOL) Substantial Law Outlines throughout my law study. I took the FFOL Home Study Baby Bar Course to prepare for the October 2018 CA Baby Bar Exam. The lectures and printed materials provided in that course were extensive and very helpful. The oral and written critiques of my six essays really helped me prepare for the exam. The staff at FFOL were very responsive when I had questions or needed assistance. Following the suggested methods for studying and review, I passed the exam. I highly recommend Flemings courses and materials. I wouldnt have passed the exam without them!

I passed!!!! July 2016 California Bar Exam with Flemings. I finally did it. Flemings Fundamentals of law helped me to become an attorney. I would not be successful without their support and guidance. Jeff and his incredible staff is there to help you. They really care about you and will support and encourage you every day during the bar review course. We all understand that only hard work will get you your license and Flemings are there to devote their time, skills and effort to your success. You only have to follow Jeffs method and do as much as you can for simulated exams, work on your essay headings, check lists and approaches (especially approaches because it will save your life on the essay portion of the bar exam). For success on the MBE portion of the exam just do them as many as you can from different MBE books that will be provided to you by Jeff. More you do better you will be when the important day comes. Practice, practice and practice with Flemings. Susan is best for PT. Her method helped me tremendously. I could finally complete both PTs!!! on the bar exam within 3 hours. Even if you havent cracked open a law school text book in over 20 years, Flemings Fundamentals of Law will get you to pass the Baby Bar. Jeff is a great teacher, the classes are not just informative but entertaining, and his system will let you walk into the exam confident that you will pass. I cant recommend FFOL enough. One of the best thing of this course is the in-depth knowledge Prof. Fleming provide about a certain topic in terms of frequency in the bar exam. What can I say, except that this man knows the process and stress experienced by the applicants, knows the California Bar, and knows the tested subjects inside and out. Professor Fleming is a very entertaining lecturer, which makes it easy to stay tuned in. He also posts his lectures online if you want further review, and provides you with all materials you could ever need to pass the bar. Furthermore, he makes sure EVERY ESSAY that is turned in to his program gets graded in a timely manner and returned with tons of constructive comments to help you with content and structure.I failed the bar twice. For my 3rd try, I trusted Flemings process, used his materials, and stuck to his schedule religiously. Im happy to say that I passed on my third attempt in July 2018.

Mother of three, married and working full time...I attended an unaccredited online law school. I used Flemings for the baby bar and passed on the first try. I continued to use Flemings throughout my law school education for help with midterms, finals and gaining the knowledge I needed in each subject area to succeed. I graduated law school and signed up for Flemings bar review, figuring it got me through the baby bar and four years of school, why stop now! I took the February 2016 California Bar. I passed.Flemings is amazing and effective. There are no fancy gimmicks, just hard work that gets you where you need to be.I began studying for the bar in November, two weeks after the long term Flemings boot camp began. I studied every weekend, lunch break and evening to make up the two weeks. Beginning in December I went to half time at work, supplementing with 4 hours of vacation time I had saved. I followed the boot camp schedule, spreading out the lectures over the week as I did not have 8 hour chunks of time to devote per day. Beginning in January, I accelerated my schedule and finished the long term boot camp by February. At that point, I commenced the short term boot camp (my choice - not on the recommendation of Flemings) and went off of work for the three weeks leading up to the bar. Every morning, before lunch, I answered 100 MBEs on the topic of the day. I took a lunch break, then wrote a minimum of three full essays and outlined 2-3 more. By then, my family would arrive home and I would knock off until the kids were in bed. By 8pm I was holed up in my bedroom going through flash cards.I took all of my books and flashcards with me to the bar to review in my hotel. I wound up only needing my flashcards and reviewed what I felt were my weak topics each night for about an hour. I was surprised that after the first day, I did not feel the testing fatigue that I was told to expect. Then I realized that the boot camp set up by Flemings is designed to have you studying about 8 hours a day...the bar is only 6 hours a day. Fatigue was not a problem.The performances felt straight forward after having watched the videos and sitting down and writing four of them during my review. The MBEs I finished in about 2/3 of the allotted time. I was right on track with the essays and my timing as well. I say all of this because without Flemings, it just would not have been possible. This review course is perfectly designed to impart the knowledge you need, emphasize what you are most likely to encounter, give constructive, helpful feedback and prepare a bar candidate in every way possible for this test.On another note, the staff at Flemings was always helpful and a pleasure to work with. The office staff was incredibly responsive to emails and I never had a problem getting through on the phone. The essay reviewers were wonderful in providing realistic scores on practice essays and pointing out areas to improve and areas that were already strong with audio recorded critiques for each essay. I watched the lectures on line, living hundreds of miles away from the live classes. The wonderful part about that is I could review the parts I needed help on as many times as I needed. By the time I sat down in that room full of about 700 people, I could hear Jeff in my head when I would come across a situation he told me to look out for.I work in the courts as a clerk and had a number of people, from judges to attorneys to other clerks, suggesting the bar review course I should take - invariably a well known name in the industry. I was fortunate enough to take several of Professor Flemings Baby Bar Prep Courses and I am SOOOO Glad that I did! His insight, council, and teaching methods are at a very high, yet approachable level, the likes of which Ive never experienced in all of my academic pursuits. If youre looking for a magic pill to pass the Baby Bar, there is none, and Professor Fleming makes that very clear. However, if youre willing to follow his plan and put in the work, your chances of success go up exponentially! I am confident that I would not have passed the Baby Bar Exam, but for, these classes. Heres a true story of my experience taking the Baby Bar Exam: A few days before the test I updated the Microsoft Windows software on my laptop computer. Who knew, but that simple act completely disabled the ExamSoft software. On the day of the test I had zero control over my keyboard or cursor. I had to hand-write the entire exam! Fortunately, Professor Fleming had given us notice of the possibility of just such a catastrophe occurring. Without a doubt, the only reason I was successful at passing the baby bar on my first attempt was due to Flemings Baby Bar Review. I was just going to attempt the baby bar to get a gauge of where I was at since it was a bit since I was in school. I used Jeffs CDs at 2X speed (so I could review more in a shorter time) for several hours a day for approximately 7 weeks (no life!!)). Flemings Baby Bar review was succinct, relative to what was covered and save me time in refreshing on the salient points that are important to successfully complete the CA baby bar. I rarely review any products, but I sincerely endorse this review and it is well worth every penny I spent. I passed the California Bar Exam on my first attempt, without Flemings there is no way that would have happened .I decided to go to law school like everyone else, to start a better life for my family. Being enlisted in the Marine Corps, I was unable to go to an ABA school full time like I would have liked, and having three small children and a working spouse did not make scheduling any easier. I choose an online unaccredited law school program that still allowed me to sit for the California Bar Exam if I met all the prerequisites along the way.I found Flemings Fundamentals of Law as I was looking for a Baby Bar review program online and decided to give it a shot. I attended the lectures and realized just how little I had learned at school. The program that Jeff laid out for me was very time consuming. Having anticipated needing to take time off work to prepare for the exam, I took two weeks of leave to study. From 6 am to 9 am I would read the black letter law out of the outline, write out my checklists, and read practice exams. From 9 to 11 I would take a break, exercise, and do whatever I could to take my mind off the test. From 11am to 2 pm I would write out my checklists, and write practice exams for the subject of the day. When my children came home at 3 pm for school I spent what time I could with them until 6 pm, where I would devote the evening to taking multi-state questions and writing out the checklists.I was nervous for the baby bar, but I ended up scoring a 635 which was one of the highest in the history of my law school. This is when I realized that I had been studying all wrong at school and knew it was a time for a change.After the Baby Bar I stopped buying the schools lectures which I was supposed to listen to, and instead I would buy the Flemings exam solution for the subject. I literally did this for every class I took for the rest of my program. My grades got substantially better and I graduated with a G.P.A. of 3.38.As I entered the last semester of school I knew it was time to prepare for the Bar exam. I signed up for the short term live lectures from Flemings. Flemings provided a substantial amount of review materials, to the point where I did not have to purchase any other materials. We were provided outlines of all the tested topics, as well as a subscription to the Emanuel multi-state database. The actual feel of the lectures were welcoming, and I was able to network with people like me who were living the same life that I was preparing for the hardest test in the country. I noticed that not everyone came to all the lectures, and when we were given the time to write the essays not everyone stayed.I made it a point to stay and write all the assigned writings, as well as do all the homework assigned. When the review ended Jeff put us on a very strict study program. I took another two weeks of leave but had dedicated every waking moment for the month before the exam to studying for the test.I would write out my checklists, read the outlines, and write a practice essay between 6 am and 9 am. I would hit the gym and have lunch between 9 am and 11 am. From 11 am to 2 pm I would write out the checklists, write a practice essay, and read the outline. I again would spend time with my family from 2 pm until 6 pm, then it was time for multi-state, I would do at least 100 a day.As I write this it almost seems unreal that I lived my life that way, but when I saw my name on the pass list it was all worth it. I literally do not know another person who passed the test personally, but I know as I sat there each day for the Bar that I was going to pass. I was prepared, and Jeff made sure that there were no surprises. I will saw that the Performance Workshop may have changed my life, the process that Flemings uses really brought it home for me, I was not attacking the problems in the right way and where I found frustration before, I saw a direct line to the answer.

I passed the June 2018 FYSLX and I can confidently say that Professor Flemings prep course was a big part of the reason I passed. The course lectures not only re-teach the law from 1L, but he includes a lot of the exceptions you need to know, along with great acronyms. The bootcamp schedule provided in this course was what gave me the speed to finish on time combined with learning the law for a test of this magnitude. Prof Fleming also adds great humor to the lectures which helps you get through all the material. This was the only bar prep course I purchased to study and I followed his regimen to prepare. I took Flemings Baby Bar prep course and Id recommend it to anyone whos taking the FYLSX and is serious about putting the work in to pass. You, of course, will only get out of it what you put in and its not a magic silver bullet, but theres much to be gleaned from the lectures, materials, and offered critiques (the critiques btw are great. I took advantage of them and felt I learned from them). I passed on my first try, which is of course a post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, but I truly believe the course was helpful, though I have no clue if it was the difference between passing and failing. I did not attend a traditional law school. Instead, I went with a non ABA accredited law school. It is a four year program that requires me to take the FYLSE after year one. The flexibility is great, but I had very little interaction with any professors or students. Essentially, I was on my own. I began preparing for the FYLSE with no clear road map. My only plan was to answer as many MBE and previously administered essay questions as I could find. After the first month, I realized I was spending too much time on topics that, in all likelihood, I would not even see on my administration of the exam. While I am pretty sure I could have continued with my game plan and still passed, after taking Fleming’s FYLSE prep course, my study time was 100% more focused on the relevant issues and topics. I probably spent half the time I would have studying because I followed their plan. I easily passed the June 2016 FYLSE with a scaled score of 628.9901. I actually left the essay portion of the exam early with about 45 minutes to spare (after taking a good 30 minutes on underlining and formatting my answers). FFOL Baby Bar Review was on the required course materials list for school, and I have to say at first I was hesitant to invest the money given all of the other required materials I had at my disposal, i.e., Gilbert Summaries, casebooks, etc. I figured I had sufficient material to help me pass the FYLSE. For one, you can never have too many resources, but more importantly, the FFOL Baby Bar Review gives you not only the substantive law you need, but also the approach as to how to write effectively. The difference the 3rd time taking the test was Sue helped me to figure out the puzzle that is the performance exam. My performance exams were keeping me from passing. I enthusiastically endorse Fleming’s Fundamentals of Law Ultimate Bar Tutorial Course (UBT) and encourage anyone wanting to minimize their chance of failing the California Bar Exam to sign up for the course. After passing the CA Bar Exam on my first attempt this week, I believe there are five requirements for passing, all of which are advanced by taking the UBT:(1) It takes a lot of studying and dedication to pass—there are no short cuts to passing the exam. The UBT staff are honest about this requirement, and provide the support and structure needed to ensure all students put in the necessary study time. UBT provides students with a fixed schedule for studying, deadlines for completing tasks on time, and even an understanding person with whom to speak for those days when one’s spirits ebb low.(2) Even if you studies a lot, it is very easy to inadvertently study inefficiently. Accordingly, one needs a guide to figure out what topics to study, and how much time to spend studying each topic. It is Jeff’s vocation is to be that guide. He has spent decades tracking a range of variables including the law itself, the Bar Exam curriculum, the contents of the bar exams, etc. to create outlines, exam approaches and a test regime, and then guiding students through all these materials during the UBT.(3) Because of the time constraints that the examiners impose on students (i.e., it is difficult to understand a fact pattern, apply the law to the fact pattern, and then write a coherent 1700-2500-word essay about the application of law to fact, all in one hour, and then repeat the process many times all in one day), mastering an effective process for both studying for, and taking, the Bar Exam is at least as important as mastering the substantive law. UBTs effective, time-proven processes for studying, which have already been tested and refined on hundreds of students over the years, save you the bother of devising your own processes, while removing any uncertainty about whether or not you are spending study-time efficiently. UBTs processes for writing the exam itself, which breaks down the time you will be spending writing the exam into 5-15 minute increments, equip you to grind though an exam and squeeze out an acceptable result even when the Bar Examiners surprise you with a trick question,a topic that has never been tested before (which happens almost every year), or a subject you personally dislike.(4) As the only open book part of the Bar Exam, I believe that a good Performance exam is often needed to compensate for the problems that are somewhat inevitable when being closed-book tested on 6 of 15 subjects with very demanding time constraints elsewhere in the exam. Because Performance is an open book exam, the only two ingredients required for a good and predictable performance exam are time-management, and fact-pattern recognition (there are only so many ways to test for performance). Susan, who is one of the best attorneys I have ever met, has broken the taking of a performance exam down into a virtually minute-by-minute process that eliminates the time-management challenge one mastered. She also curates from amongst the wealth of past Performance exams to provide students with exposure to virtually all major fact patterns on which one can base a Performance exam. I cannot emphasize, by the way, the resilience one can develop on exam day, knowing that no matter how badly a given question might be going, there is Performance exam waiting around the corner in which lost ground can be regained5) Practice is required. UBT makes you write/outline almost a hundred written exams, and take thousands of multiple choice questions. At least a quarter of this practice occurs under timed conditions.In short, writing the Bar Exam is a process that is fraught with uncertainty. Take UBT to carve down that uncertainty into a vastly more manageable process. The price is worth it.
